Avisford Park Hotel: Opinions
Fantastic experience: Was a bit worried based on some of the recent reviews. However the communal facilities in the hotel are very nice such as the bar, dining room and gym. Family room itself very spacious although a closer look, cleaning could be improved. Breakfast was great with plenty of options.
Positive experience: Service was ok especially given the size of the small bar area and the fact it was busy with guests staying over and guests having A Valentines dinner..I wasn't entirely impressed with the fact they placed dining tables in the lounge to deal with an overspill from the restaurant area, so glad I hadn't booked for dinner.
Positive experience: Hotel although grand from the outside is in serious need of a revamp. The staff were friendly and courteous but the bar food was terrible and would not recommend. Bedrooms like the hotel need a revamp but were clean and beds comfortable
Positive experience: The place from outside looks ok, reception staff nice, but the good ends there, rooms are very tired and dated, bed old and uncomfortable, and food in restaurant, well the less said the better, was recommended the prawns to start, which are £7.95, 4 prawns battered and tasteless (which looks like frozen from Aldi) which were poor, and a £16 pizza which waitress said was amazing, burnt dough with soo much cheese it didn't cook and when u cut pizza it's still Raw in middle.
Positive experience: Can't recommend the food Highley enough it's fantastic , rooms are OK, but a bit plain, could do with some more decorations and an update, but nothing i couldn't live with, service is good. The only problem is the price of drink it's excessive, £4.70 for a pint coke £7.20 for a pint of larger ( that may just be the Scottish in me )
Positive experience: The hotel staff is very nice, Ria in in the restaurant was really kind and the chef did the most delicious broccoli soup you can dream about. The rooms inside are clean (the corridors are a big turn off)… the spa is also a nice place to relax.
Negative experience: Although the staff, location and room were all great value for money why is it the food was the worst. I paid 17.00 gbp for veg curry with a chicken add on of 5.50. So a total of 23.50 for a bare representation of a small pumpkin dansak with some plain chicken chunks chucked on top. Rice was OK 2 mini nans obviously frozen and dry round the edges. What is wrong with this country. ? What is wrong with you Avis Park ? What ever A hole is sat at the top creaming off huge profits with no concern for its customers, local economies, and just decent food !! I could make an authentic curry for less than £5 a head using real ingredients to a real recipe utilising local suppliers so why can't you ? You should be ashamed of yourselves.
Fantastic experience: Reception staff were very approachable, some lovely chats. Facilities made for a lovely refreshing morning
Fantastic experience: Fantastic New Year's Eve Part y 2024. Excellent staff, lovely food, great music and atmosphere. Dear Crest Hotels Avisford Park hotel thank you for throwing a wonderful party last night seeing 2025 in with a bang. We will be back next year, great value too x
Fantastic experience: Had an amazing Christmas Day lunch, great food, beautiful surroundings and served by the lovely Natalie. Would definitely recommend and will be booking for next year. Looking forward to New Years Eve at Avisford Park.
Fantastic experience: We had a really great time over Christmas. Katie was brilliant organising everything. Loved the spa with swimming pool and loads of new Technogym kit. Sarah in the bar introduced us to a couple with similar interests and we had a great chat.Nicola and Paige left no stone unturned in the restaurant. Outstanding value for money! Thank you Avisford Park.
Negative experience: Hi this is abbreviated version of Review, read full one on Trip Advisor, if you’ve got half an hour,it'll be quite obvious. Stay Booked through Golf Breaks, who have subsequently said that this issue is Between Hotel and Myself. Stayed at Avisford Park Hotel Arundel 10th and 11th December 2024. Golf Dinner Bed and Breakfast was package, no problem with Golf Bed and Breakfast. Dinner in Evening Reservation sat down 19:00 ,walk out at 21:45 having not been served with my meal. Meal Allowance was £25. Ordered food and got delivered to room at own expense. Sat down with manager at checkout, asking for refund on Meal Allowance, and that I wont be staying with them again. so don’t offer me that option. So far Hotel are not offering me a refund. Said to Hotel that I was under the assumption that when a guest stays you both enter into a contract, the hotel provides the services, and the guest agrees to pay. Dinner was not provided so I wanted a refund, I’m sure if boot was other foot they would be chasing it. Very disappointed not doing the Hotel Brand any good
Negative experience: Charged more on arrival Door key didn't work No room service Lukewarm water Room very very tired with damp and black mould No information given re spa or complimentary robe to use No one on checkout to relay complaint to when leaving Never again!!!
Fantastic experience: I've no idea at all why this hasn't got close to 5 stars. It's a superb hotel with excellent customer service. Thanks for arranging things for my dog despite some issues with the booking. Staff excellent throughout too
Negative experience: In need of maintenance. Building has mould and damp issues. Shabby in places. Food for event buffet was mostly beige. Felt a bit like I was in the shining out there in the garden Lodge.
Positive experience: A good little venue, attended a course there. Friendly staff on entry, clean and easy to navigate. Would be useful to have some signs well before entry on the road as you can overshoot it.
Fantastic experience: I can't thank the staff at this hotel enough. They went above and beyond to help. Professional, personable and a 5* service. Everything you need in one place, beautiful gardens for photos and nice walking areas. AND it's doggo friendly in ground floor rooms and bar area. Huge grand room to hold your event, with lots of breakout areas. Very helpful and recommend. Sam & Quinn
Negative experience: The rooms smell really bad, swooped room and the second room was even worse, very unpleasant and would never use.
Negative experience: Just returned from a weekend stay, family double room, to say it’s outdated would be kind, unfortunately the cleanliness of the room was poor, the carpet looked like it hadn’t been cleaned in years, one of the bed pillows heavily stained and the window frame, if it was scraped and cultured could likely lead to the discovery of a new antibiotic. When using the mini fridge in the room the door fell off, clearly it had been repaired multiple times previously as there was more filler than wood at the hinge mounting. The beds were hard and uncomfortable, and whilst I appreciate these things are objective it was an unpleasant, rough nights sleep. The pillows especially have the same kind of support as one would expect had I chosen to lay my head in a bowl of whipped cream. The final straw was returning to the room on the 2nd evening to find a bag of rubbish on the bed, also not from our room/rooms bin. Returned the rubbish to reception and granted the staff were mortified but were clearly used to complaints. As a building it has a lot of potential but needs a complete refurb and is not worth the money currently. Great location though which is what’s makes this review such a shame to write
Negative experience: We booked this hotel only for the swimming pool, we wanted a relaxing evening of pampering. The hotel is in the middle of nowhere with not much to do otherwise. Well, the pool was not working, so we couldn't use it. My partner tried the sauna, but he also couldn't access it, because what seemed to be all the workers currently painting the hotel had taken the changing room, and he wasn't told he needed a padlock for the lockers. At 4am our toilet flush broke, leaving us with no functioning toilet, a very noisy and continuous stream of water, and a very, very damp room. Humid and very smelly. We called reception but they sent someone who admitted couldn't do much, since she didn't know anything about toilets. She said she'd sent someone who could, but that never happened, so we decided to leave right after breakfast. The hotel has many areas of mould, some holes in the ceiling, missing panels, a very old carpet in the corridor that makes terrible noise, and very much resembles the corridor of "The Shining". Our room was tiny, had terrible views to the loading dock, was missing a bedside wall lamp, but the attachment was still there, and so, so damp. We asked to raise a formal complaint but initially all they said is to send an email to reception, after insisting they gave us the email of the operations manager. You'll pay for services they don't provide. Breakfast wasn't great, the scrambled eggs were, we think, like powder eggs mix. We sadly left much of our food on the plate and decided to leave and grab something in Arundel. The fruit was nice though. Coffee was really bad. But they had a good availability of milks. We'll not be back, it's a shame, the staff at the restaurant was really nice. Just generally run down. The operations manager replied to invite us for a night, subject to availability, but all we want is a refund, so I responded that. He's not answered back, so I thought I'd shared my experience so others know what to expect.
Positive experience: Had lunch here. It seems to be undergoing an exterior renovation. Beautiful inside. Lunch was ok. It was buffet style. Not a favorite style for me. But it tasted fine.
Negative experience: Building under renovation, food not fit for consumption(I was ill after eating a meal) we were there for 4 days -terrible evening meal ,,staff tried hard but under staffed- poor slow service. Get new qualified kitchen staff?
Negative experience: I treated my wife to afternoon tea for her birthday. We'll what can I say we entered the hotel to find no staff at reception or in the bar or in the restaurant so had no idea where we needed to go. After 3 to 4 minutes we were ask by a member of staff if she could help we told her we are here for the afternoon tea o OK I will get someone for you. We were shown to a table. After a short while the food came out. Considering I paid £50 I was very disappointed the sandwiches were very poor the scones were very crispy and had been warmed up they don't look very appetising. The cakes well they didn't let us down either awful. Will i be coming back I will leave that for you to decide that...
Negative experience: Cream tea afternoon with friends i can honestly say i will never return. On arrival, no staff anywhere, we stood around waiting for someone to appear..no receptionist on duty, no one in restaurant part or the bar. Finally get shown to a seat..food arrived, omg the disappointment & embarrassment was beyond words. Half filled flimsy sandwich fingers of poor quality, 2 hard/burnt scones with not enough jam or cream for both & of what had been put in a microwave to nake warm. A few decidedly average small cakes, certainly not homemade, poor quality again. Probably the best bit was the fruit tea, £50 for 2 was certainly not deemed value for money. Last of my hard earnt money spent there.
Fantastic experience: Great hotel, fabulous facilities and the staff is very helpful! It's difficult to get there if you don't have a car, but the result rewards you!
Positive experience: Rooms were Great, Location Great, however service was slow, hotel bar had 1 person on duty with a queue going through lounge, food service was slow and once received had clearly been standing for a bit before being brought out. hotel needs more staff on duty especially if they also have major events on
Fantastic experience: Went here for afternoon tea using a Groupon voucher which mum had bought & booked. I think we got afternoon tea for 4 for £40 with the Groupon. Be aware on arrival the QR code is needed from using the Groupon voucher, as although mum had rung to utilise the Groupon voucher, & booked relevant date & time, chap on restaurant desk still needed QR code mum had received...but not starred, so she had to scroll through her emails to find. Once sat, we were offered tea or coffee, which came in pots so therefore you got more than 1 cup. No allergies so we had finger sandwiches on white (egg mayo, ham & wholegrain mustard & 2 others. Choice of fruit & plain scones. Various petit fours. All delicious. Again be aware if you cannot finish & wish to take a "doggy bag", you'll have to sign a waiver. Staff were pleasant. Hotel was undergoing decoration & repairs & notices of apology were dotted about. Never been here before despite it being on my doorstep. Son did have school prom here 10 years ago when it was a Hilton, but I never came obviously. Can't comment on rooms as did not stay. Older vibe hotel, check/tartan carpets & wood panelling on walls. Parking to front of hotel (needs re painting of lines), on this occasion plenty of spaces. A few couples arrived whilst we were eating to stay a few nights. I think I spotted a golf course just across from the hotel. Can't comment as didn't use. Nice afternoon. Will do again sometime. No photos I'm afraid as attendees don't like mobiles out at the table. Steps down to restaurant, I think I spotted a small lift for wheelchair users only.
Fantastic experience: A fantastic venue with amazing staff, its been the same experience over the last 20 years of visiting....
Negative experience: I made a booking at this hotel on behalf of friends. I was so disappointed with the feedback they shared with me. I personally spent 20 minutes trying to reach someone by phone to confirm the booking. The call rang out and disconnected 5 times. Nobody answered. On arrival the greeting was described to me as 'surly, bordering on rude'. Not welcoming at all. No offer of breakfast. To get to their room they had to move THROUGH a private function. Hardly appropriate. Checkout was worse by all accounts. Guests were treated like schoolchildren and 'dismissed' once they had passed the room checks. What's worse, I booked this hotel as my friends had stayed before and raved about the level of customer service. I believe it was under different management then.
Negative experience: I've stayed here 3 times with my company and found this place awful. 2 hour wait for the wrong dinner, sometimes no dinner. Afyer a hard days work, to be refused an already paid for dinner, that is not on. Not to mentionnInsect infestation in my room at 3am. No thank you There are some really wonderful staff there but overall, I would never stay there again
Fantastic experience: I recently stayed at the Avisford Hotel for three weeks and had an amazing experience. The hotel has such great character, with a warm and inviting atmosphere that makes you feel right at home. The staff were absolutely fantastic and went above and beyond to make my stay comfortable. In the restaurant, the service was top-notch. Every staff member was great, but I have to give a special mention to Lily, Ria, and Izzy – they were outstanding! Their friendly and attentive service made dining a real pleasure. The food was also excellent, with every meal being delicious and well-prepared. I would definitely come back to the Avisford Hotel again. It’s a wonderful place with great people, and I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a memorable stay!
Fantastic experience: Lot of works on going will be good I'm sure good pool and gym steam room and sauna
Negative experience: The good. Staff were nice, building looks nice, location is close to where we needed to be, nice big smart Tv in the room. The bad. The bed was by far the most uncomfortable I've ever slept in, rock hard and no support, my back hurt for the entire next day, the room was pretty grotty, not dirty as such, just run down, the plug was stuck in the bath so it filled up whilst showering. At 8am someone was operating some sort of loud petrol machinery out front of the hotel, so that was it for our sleep, finally the carpark was a complete shitshow, the night we stayed there were around 50 octupus energy vans in the carpark, and the quality of parking was shocking! We saw 1 van abandoned across 3 parking spaces. So yeah, didn't expect much for £80 a night, but I expected more than we got. We won't be back.
Negative experience: Horrible kitchen nightmares waiting about 2 hours to get your food ready rood stuff. Dump and smelly carpet Definitely I won’t come back here.
Positive experience: Staff are amazing and it’s a great location and has great potential. It just feels like it needs a bit of freshen up
Fantastic experience: Best place I have been!!! The breakfast is honestly incredible the place is huge !! The pool is warm and clean and the gym is fantastic!!! Beautiful place to be I'd happily live at this location!!!
Fantastic experience: Am shocked to see all the previous reviews about this Wonderful hotel. We stayed here a few weeks ago and it’s been on my mind ever since about writing a review but have been delayed due to illness. The hotel and the grounds are Beautiful. The breakfast is great from the cooked breakfast to the fruit and danish. The restaurant has a lovely relaxed atmosphere and Carl was Fantastic, very attentive and professional. He really added to our holiday and made it feel extra special with it being my daughters birthday whilst on our visit. We ended up eating in the restaurant every night which we’ve not done before. After many years of staying here we can see he really is an asset to the hotel. Nicola, Natalie, and Sarah were hard working and really lovely too. Tash got the rooms ready and was very helpful when requesting a small fridge in the room for medication, which was much appreciated. Housekeeping clearly work very hard and do a great job. I must just say to anyone visiting the hotel if you have any issues please talk to a member of staff before leaving bad reviews, as the hotel really is special and the staff will try to help.
Negative experience: Actually, can't give a review, I tried to contact them but they never answer the phone, first red flag, just read reviews so think I will give it a miss.
Fantastic experience: What a fantastic venue! The food was great in the main restaurant, and the family fun day they organised was great for the kids. Really looking forward to AVI Festival next year! Special thanks to Emily and the amazing team at the Hotel, each and every single member of staff are fantastic and the service levels always at a high standard, highly recommend!!!! Anyone that complains etc, the price is AMAZING for what you get, try and find anywhere else for a similar price you won't!
Positive experience: This is a nice hotel in need of a refurbishment, which I understand is in progress. Worth a visit but for now do not expect greatness.
Positive experience: A great location, lots of potential and nice staff but....not great on cleanliness and extremely noisy residents which ruined our stay. Sound proofing in rooms needs to be improved. Would not stay again
Positive experience: A comfortable and friendly hotel with helpful staff. Rooms and bathrooms are outdated and need renovation but clean and comfortable otherwise.
Negative experience: Very poor. We were given a stadard double room. The best review I can give it this is only just one mark off of a health hazard. The rooms in this area of the hotel (Garden lodge) should not be available until they are thoroughly refurbished. Areas in the hotel leading to this would have needed refurbing 10 years ago looking at (mould and wood damage), several notices promising refurbishment but it feels this is too little too late. They should not be available or accessible. With a property with such potential this is very sad. Undertaking the level of refurbishment is mammoth, I would advise to carefully consider all the reviews before booking. One last thing, our room was directly above a function room, there was a "Festival" playing very loud music from our check in time until 22.30 - this was a real shame as I did want to rest before leaving for a Wedding event, I ended up feeling exhausted not relaxed. The only communication we received was at the time of check-in. Bad communication. They offered us free entry to this event (not entirely sure why) but it was that loud that the floor was vibrating - we felt we were in there anyway. I repeat do consider all reviews before booking.
Negative experience: Hotel is in a great place & food was nice. BUT our check in was 3pm, room was not ready until 4pm. We arrived to building works, scaffolding and an empty outside pool which we was not informed about. Our room was furthest from the reception and the corridor smelt of damp & mould (photos). The key cards were unpredictable, dont work if stored near mobile phones. It's a shame as it's an unlisted old building, but in need of much improvement.
Negative experience: The hotel is crying out for an update, wallpaper falling off the walls, mould on the walls, swimming pool out of order, table tennis tables wrecked it looked like it may have been ok 20 years ago. This was the good bits. Fire alarm went off at 12.00am the whole corridor was full of people. Staff came and removed ceiling panels in a bid to disconnect the siren but was unable to. Eventually that managed to shut it up with a reset but it only lasted 30 minutes before it started going off again. The staff did not know what to do and just left us sat in the room with a siren blaring away. I decided it was best i just go home so I went and asked to end my stay early. I asked for a refund for the days I would not be staying and he told me to pay for the food bill and he would sort refund. He took £100 for the food I had then told me to get refund of bookings .com. If you are thinking of staying here the grounds are nice but it may be an idea to take a tent with you so you get a good nights kip
Positive experience: I had a lovely dinner in the restaurant, we really enjoyed our celebration. The staff were very attentive and the menu was superb! Will definitely tell our friends to visit.
Positive experience: Beautiful hotel, old but well maintain. Staff are friendly.. absolute star. The only thing that pull it down is the creacking corridor floor.. gosh its annoying but we will come back
Negative experience: In English, so all can read and be aware. The pictures show a beautifull classic hotel. Reality is much much different. Mold, smell, wallpaper comming of the walls, filthy swimmingpool, out side pool broken, tennis courts rubbish. Arrived a little early, room was not ready, but we were able to use the facilities. Not the pool, no kids between 14.00 en 17.00. The place was deserted so suggested to leave the pool if other guests want to swim. Not an option. Unhappy kid...30 degrees at the time. Room was stinking of mold and damp, painters at the window doing the outside and playing loud music (I suggest to focus on the inside and not the outside...). Asked for a room change. Sorry fully booked. Told them we were going to leave. All of a sudden 3 rooms available. Small, smelly and old. One was less smelly so took that as leaving with a Child at night is not an option. Bar bill under my door in the night. No discount, no sorry nothing. Talked to the people at the next hotel and this was no news to them. My suggestion. Burn it down and start all over. Location is briljant, hotel is an endless mess and will never be better. Be warned and avoid this place. To be fair, breakfast was fine, although terass was closed for no reason. There will be workers we were told. Hours later... Lots of rules and cannot do. Not a service you would expext from a place like this. Was told it was recently sold..for a good reason I guess. The hotelmanager in our next hotel was the old hotel manager there and left for all the reasons above. One big mess this hotel.
Negative experience: ABSOLUTELY USELESS It is no surprise to see all the poor reviews on here about Avisford Park. The management of the Golf, Leisure and Spa department are incompetent beyond belief and a complete waste of time with customer service and communications non existent. Having made an enquiry about golf membership and sent numerous emails I have not even been given the courtesy of a reply either by email or telephone. If anybody did their job the way these people do theirs, they would starve to death and the Crest Hotels Group need to make a serious assessment into the quality of some of their staff. Totally clueless.
Negative experience: Building work going on, people making noise at 0730 and scaffolding right outside the room so can’t even open the window on a hot day as people stood right there. Way too early for work to start. No AC in rooms
Positive experience: Whilst the hotel is presently undergoing quite a bit of renovation, it is quite due, but it hasn't affected the quality of staff service. When I stayed, regrettably the indoor pool was closed for works, and scaffolding outside the room window (141) was unsightly, but room was comfy and a good tray of tea/coffee etc. The plumbing was problematic with bath not draining away, even just after a shower, and some strange glugging noises at random times. Carpet also has reached life expectancy, but I'm sure these will be addressed. Public areas look fine and the grounds are beautiful. They prepared an excellent breakfast and the Gala dinner was exceptional. Quickly serving all on our table with courses at same time and hot, a feat seldom achieved by many venues. Very commendable. I should imagine as a wedding venue this would be a superb choice. One more thing, the main corridor upstairs has the noisiest sqeaky floor I have ever encountered. It was impossible to sneak along quietly. I'm sure this needs looking into?
Negative experience: The restaurant and bar areas are good but the rooms and hallways are badly in need of refurbishment. The hallways have the feeling of a 1970's seaside hotel and although the rooms are a bit better they still feel quite poor. Staff are fantastic and do a great job though so that makes the stay a bit better.
Positive experience: Average hotel. If you take a dog, they charge £20 extra, that's fine but it should be transparent and on their website and marketing material. Rooms are tired looking and there's no reduction in price due to renovations taking place which means Leisure facilities are closed!
Negative experience: Stayed here for one night check in was pleasant rooms a bit dated but clean and ideal for us. Hotel corridors look like something out of the shining. Arrived in our room on the second floor opened the curtains to a builder on scaffolding looking at me. Not a big problem we were going out until 1am so dropped bags and went to our event. Got back about 1am at 8am Sunday morning a generator starts up and at 9am outside our window a builder is dismantling scaffolding poles and banging about. We had not planned on getting up as we had a late night . Went to breakfast which was nice . Went back to the room to finish packing opened the curtains and there he is the builder now with a ratchet gun dismantling scaffolding at 10am right outside the window. Room was hot all night and whilst there was a fan in the room we couldn't have the sash window open .checked out at reception it was a Sunday morning we had no warning of the building works if we had we would have stayed elsewhere and most definitely wouldn't stay here again. staff where apologetic but the stay was not good. One star for not pre warning of building work prior to booking and for the usual strap-line not our usual service reply to your survey you sent us .
Fantastic experience: A brilliant hotel, beautiful grounds great facilities and the food excellent. The staff were very helpful and nothing was too much trouble always ready to help. Enjoyable stay relaxing l would recommend .
Negative experience: AVOID Due to the untimely passing off my father, I was unable to attend the wedding I had booked this hotel for. I understand hotels having a no refund cancellation policy however due to the circumstances I was expecting more compassion. This was simply not the case I'd advise to avoid this hotel and to book elsewhere. Service was poor, I was promised phone calls to discuss this that simply didn't happen unless I was the one calling them. Which led to undue stress and anxiety of waiting around.
Negative experience: I’ve stayed here lots of times over the last few years, it’s never been great but theres a few pros ( & cons ) to the place so you put up with a few things. However, I’ve just had my last stay! Baring in mind there isn’t too much around or walking Distance so you expect the basics under one roof and as advertised. Saturday night I attempted to go down for dinner and eat for the evening to be told by the bar there’s no food in the bar area tonight and you’ll have to check with the restaurant as they are fully booked, approaching the restaurant which had only 3 tables with customers I was told they was fully booked, seeing all the empty tables I was baffled and asked again to be re-assured they are ?? I sat down In the bar to try and make some sort of plan on how to feed my 4 staff all of which had a drink and could no longer drive anywhere, as we would have never expected a hotel that’s serves food to be ‘fully booked’ even in the bar area, nothing was walking distance. I then incurred the great expenses of Ubers to Chichester & back £50 to go to. Restaurant for food. On return, I popped over to the restaurant and it was dead ? No other table tables had been taken and 1 of the 3 had left. So only 2 tables was eating ! I then later found out they had a football presentation event on in another Suit and all the staff and Food was for them, Obviously not the Hotel guests which is appalling. This happened to several others that night too who also said the same as us. No thought for the Hotel paying customers, I can’t risk staying here again if the basics of a hotel stay aren’t available. Pros - nice setting. Comfy beds, nice food. Cons - poor service from bar and restaurant, old & tired decor, badly maintained, facilities are poor, understaffed. Key cards never work.
Positive experience: 8 miles from the nearest town, other functions on so residents parking non existent! No porter to help with bags. Room was supposed to be a twin but became a cosy double and no interest in changing stating We are full. Breakfast overly priced and very poor quality buffet just left to dry food out.
Fantastic experience: Absolutely outstanding service from Carl in the restaurant. Truly went above and beyond to accommodate, was always on the move and yet no request was too much trouble. A true credit to your company
Positive experience: We stay for one night at avisford Park Hotel. Our dinner wasn't anything special apart of the calamari as starter, which was good. The service we had was very slow as it took 25 minutes to get the mains after our starter, but it wasn't a problem for us. The breakfast was good with different options. The room was clean, good TV and probably I had one of the best sleeps as the bed was so comfortable. In general, the hotel needs updating, it has seen better days.
Positive experience: Stunning location and grounds and close to many things to do. We went to Arundel Castle for a medieval festival. Staff were fab and the breakfast was really good. The decor could do with a revamp throughout. The bedroom was a let down as there are only two plugs and they aren't near the bed. The t.v obviously used to sit on a corner unit and is now on the wall but is not at the end of the bed so makes watching TV a nightmare and very uncomfortable. The mattress was very hard and the pillows so soft they disappeared when you put your head on them. It's a shame but the issues with the bed are enough to mean we won't be back.
Fantastic experience: Just called in for a meal. Lovely gardens and tables outside to eat on. Bar meals are very good value. There is also a restaurant. The rooms are a reasonable price but apparently if you bring dogs they charge £20 a day per dog. They have a spa.
Positive experience: Not Great experience to be honest. (Start with lights ) Room I was staying in had not enough light. Best side 3 down lights one warm white and others cool white temperature. Bathroom was sadly broken shower and leaking also basin tap had leakage. Food an hour service.
Positive experience: Got to midnight, about to go to sleep, went to brush teeth and realised there was no toothpaste!!? What hotel doesn’t have toothpaste…went to the reception and they didn’t even have any there and they told me to drive to a garage. Rooms were okay but quite outdated, sauna is better then no sauna but needs to be hotter, steam room and swimming pool was nice. Also the room service phone did not work.
Positive experience: Comfortable hotel in beautiful surroundings, lovely gardens, and lots of character, has a nice indoor and outdoor pool, gym is not up to much, needs updating and has limited machines to exercise with, staff are nice and friendly, hotel in short is in need of an update along with the rooms themselves, breakfast was good and evening meals were good but a bit pricey for what I got, had the lasagne which came with to slices of garlic bread, needs a salad or something with it, all in all a pleasant stay
Fantastic experience: Lovely location in the green. Nice service, as we asked for more towels and an hairdryer. Next time it will be great to find a shower with box (no tents).
Negative experience: The hotel has beautiful grounds and the hotel appears to be going through an upgrade which is very much required. Our room was very clean, but the bed was hard and my gran would have loved the decor ... Modern it was not! One of the corridors had a large amount of damp with paint and plaster falling off the wall...it did not appear that this was being addressed while money was being spent in the bar! Breakfast was very good but one loaf of bread had mould on it Acceptable place overall but not at the price paid.
Negative experience: I’m staying in this hotel in last 3 days and my room hasn’t been cleaned since then, nothing changed, bathroom hasn’t been cleaned, clean towels haven’t been provided. Absolutely disappointed.
Positive experience: Lovely old country manor hotel. I stayed for business. Room was on the top floor on a considerably windy day. The gusts blew the windows and made them rattle and a passive roof vent in the bathroom bellowed through the night which kept me awake. I missed breakfast because I just had to get some sort of sleep. This is a very large hotel with a huge bar and restaurant area and outdoor area, spa facilities, golfing and many more things. I didn't manage to get to take full advantage of the facilities due to late check in but I would come back and stay away from work as it really does seem like a great place to stay in the warmer months.
Fantastic experience: Lovely Hotel with excellent service, nice pool and sauna / solarium. Huge grounds with a golf course attached all at a great price.
Positive experience: Public areas were great, staff we're very friendly, helpful and attentive. The room was in need of a little TLC but overall very good
Negative experience: Took my wife for afternoon tea. When arriving we were ignored for quite some time and when someone did notice us they stood directly in front of us pleading with a colleague to deal with us as she didn’t want to. (Awkward) When we were finally seated we ordered tea and coffee, the tea was lovely the coffee however was appalling. It tasted as if it had been sitting for hours stewing. Our afternoon tea arrived consisting of cheese and pickle, egg, ham and mustard sandwiches (very poor selection) some desserts which seemed as though they had been bought from Iceland and finally some scones which were very nice. I have attended weddings at Avisford park in the past and the setting is beautiful. Sadly their afternoon tea requires looking into. Sadly this has put us off returning in the future which is very disappointing.
Positive experience: It's run down, but it looks like they are trying to give it some TLC. Staff are inexperienced. they just need guidance from a senior who has experience in front of house. On the whole, it was a comfortable stay and it did the job. Beds are very comfy.
Positive experience: Have stayed many times here, we have our own room when it's available. We love the breakfast and the creaky floors. Used to be a school.
Negative experience: Hotel need some BIG repairs on building itself. Rooms not clean. Food not impressed at all. More bad then good. Prices are too high for this quality hotel.
Positive experience: The room was standard but comfortable. The pillows disappeared when you lay on them. The staff were friendly. The restaurant was a bit of a letdown, with long waits for food, and there was always something not available on the menu. The waiting staff tried their best, though sometimes seemed to forget what you had ordered. Food tasted good, though.
Negative experience: After a recent family visit to the hotel including a family event I'm afraid I would not recommend this hotel apart from the the countryside setting its website is very misleading and describes a beautiful high standard hotel with luxury spa well its far from that after the front reception/hallway newly decorated and left handside ground floor bedrooms the rest of the hotel is out dated dirty old fashion. On arrival you get to what could or would of been a beautiful hotel but clearly now its run down dirty paintwork let's it down . The hotel did not fulfill our requirements from not having the function rooms ready to being given 2 wrong rooms away from the rest of the family's which was requested on the booking no help with a complex check in on arrival then to be told no lift had to carry many bag/suitcases up a steep flight of stairs then a very lengthy walk to wrong rooms . The buffet was bland and just warm the staff looked miserable. In the evening we orderd bar food in lounge area this was cosy but busy again not enough staff along wait for food that was again bland uninteresting and over priced after complaining about my what was surposed to chicken cesar sandwich it came out just a limp lettuce white baguette with a sprinkle of sauce and few bit if cheese !! I asked no chicken then ohhhhh . It came back with vile looking reformed chicken hardly top hotel standard. So I left it. Wasn't offered anything else . Sorry for the long review but not sorry ...personally had better stay and service at Premier Inn
Negative experience: Absolutely SHOCKING! I've been staying here for work commitments for the last 3 weeks, only had my bedding changed once. Cleaners are letting their self in the room for a half arsed job, and when you try to explain to reception, you just get the "yeah, it will rectified" which it never has. The place is a Absolute Joke. Don't waste your time........ one of the worst experiences that I've had staying in a hotel to date...... Avisford Park Hotel 4 star hotel I'd rather stay in a crack den.......stay well away everyone
Positive experience: A bit tired looking, the hotel certainly needs updating. The staff are friendly and welcoming. The bathrooms need a bit of paint, and why do hotels seem to have a bath with a shower in it. It's not so good if you can't get into a bath. The coriander needs sprucing up, as does the outside of the hotel. The paint work is green instead of the white it should be. The breakfast is stupidly expensive, as are the bar prices. But otherwise its OK.
Negative experience: Jaded and definitely faded. Stayed recently at this hotel. Overall I would not go back. Room was cosy double and it was clean but had wallpaper peeling away from the wall, bed and furniture were very tired looking. One of the worst things that happend during my stay was that water was cut off twice on two separate days for more than two hours on each occasion with no flushing toilet or hot water. No apologies from the management team. I didn't eat in the restaurant as it was too cold in the restaurant and bar areas, the heating didn't appear to be working properly, in February!! I had breakfast and it was not great I have had much better at Premier Inn. Limited choice and unimaginative. The hotel needs millions probably in investment but until that happens they seem to be happy with guests having a very poor experience. You have been warned!
Negative experience: This hotel needs investment. Room was clean but dated and small. Service was a challenge at times due to staffing issues. Most creaky floors I have ever experienced. Shower flow good but water temperature changed every 10 secs! On the plus side parking was good and food was of a high standard.
Positive experience: Stayed for an in-house event, the bedrooms could do with a bit of tlc, things like the bath tab felt like it is about to fall off and the set temperature of the room was very hot, ac or have thr options to turn it down.
Positive experience: I am sorry to say, that my wife who was disabled and in wheelchair, didn't leave the room after the first day. Couldn't shower very deep bath which she was unable to get in. Went to pool she had 2 heavy doors to get into changing rooms. 2 more to pool. So was already in pain. Steps into pool too deep. Nothing in shower to help her. No lower hand rails, no shelf to put anything on nothing to lean or sit on. Went in,in her wheelchair in the end... no changing rooms just narrow bench and curtain which u couldn't get into. Had 2 ladies help me dress because I was in the open... was a nightmare and soo much pain. Lift in Bar to take u down restaurant, good, but didn't work. Customers and my carer picked me up and carried me down the steps...... Sorry there's more but enough is enough. It was an horrendous 3 days. For ABs it would be lovely. Just not disabled with wheelchairs...
Positive experience: Nice place. Cozy rooms. Creaky old floors but just adds to some of its charm. Some bits seem a bit dated, but I only stayed for 1 night for work so didn't get a chance to explore. I would recommend the pizzas, I'm not normally a pizza eater but saw someone else tucking into one......the pizzas were great
Negative experience: One of the worst and most bizarre hotel stays I've ever had. Arrived to a dirty and uncleaned room complained to reception only to be walked along the corridor with the receptionist opening random rooms along the corridor some occupied some with luggage in until he found an empty room. Which was 1/3rd the size of the original dirty room, so not what we paid for. Then there was talk of complimentary prosecco but nothing ever arrived. Don't know wether the receptionist was drunk or high but it was like nothing I ever experienced. What was meant to be a nice boxing day night off from the kids ended being a thougerly disappointing stay in a very rundown once great hotel.
Negative experience: Tired, stained and mouldy. Staff at check in were very abrupt. The rates are very variable, it was cheaper on the day than when I booked (the room only rate I paid was more expensive than their breakfast rate on the day). Staff were quite accusatory when I then asked if breakfast could be included due to the price I’d paid and instead offered it to me at £15 per adult. Room carpet was incredibly stained, bathroom blind was broken and had large patches of mould. General hotel areas are very tired with threadbare carpets and crumbling plaster. Not a place for a relaxing stay and seems to be relying on large trade contracts. Bar was busy and lots of smokers outside.
Positive experience: The hotel is in a nice old building set in pleasant grounds. The staff were friendly and helpful. The building is a bit tired and it seems pot luck reading the other reviews as to whether you get a nice room or not. My room was fine, comfortable and warm so no complaints from me.
Fantastic experience: Had our Works meeting and Christmas lunch here, food was lovely, Turkey and all the trimmings, wasn't too enamoured with the dessert. Staff were friendly, polite and very helpful!........ lovely surroundings and hotel looks lovely too.
Positive experience: Firstly we stayed just one night for a Christmas event which was already paid for the business. First impressions were not great as the reception staff appeared to lack experience and knowledge and we were kept waiting for over 20 minutes with the queue building behind second by second. Secondly there was an issue as the room was paid for but they could find no record of this. Considering it was Christmas event the noise was crazy, we got very little sleep, doors banging, room party next door. Experience not great so lessons learnt.
Fantastic experience: A lovely hotel. I stayed 3 nights and I'm so glad I chose this place. Nice food. Nice spa. Nice rooms. Just be aware no lift as far as I'm aware. Golf course and Tennis courts. A nice friendly country hotel.
Positive experience: Stayed here for a corporate Christmas do. The staff are friendly, if a little inexperienced , and the hotel is starting to look quite tired in places , but at £59 for a room for the night it's excellent value for money. I'm not sure I would choose this hotel for a longer leisure break , but if you are looking for somewhere to stay just as a base to explore the area then this would be ideal. The food at the corporate dinner was surprisingly good and the breakfast buffet was plentiful. The room was spacious with a kettle, fridge, decent TV, comfy bed and a decent bathroom. Given I paid 5 times as much as this for a "country house hotel" down the road recently , I have to say this place is excellent value. They just need a few more experienced staff to make things run a little smoother.
Negative experience: Barely any staff in the hotel. Food at dinner of a very low standard. Breakfast not served until 7:10am which means you will miss if you need to set off early in the morning . Needs a lot of work
Fantastic experience: A huge thank you to the team at Avisford park, notably Stacey, for helping me find someone comfortable to stay last minute during a family emergency. The room was beautiful, the facilities were great and I couldn’t fault a single thing. Thank you so much!
Negative experience: I ordered steak last night, they didn’t ask me how I wanted it then brought out the dryest overcooked steak ive seen. Sides were a huge raw mushroom and full raw tomato. Very overpriced. Poor service. Very poor food
Positive experience: The hotel is very well situated and although a little tired inside, I understand the new owners are in the process of a complete refurbishment. The rooms however are clean and well presented but rooms could do with a coffee machine and telephones that work (I understand these are being replaced). The fridge in a room is a good idea and mine worked fine as well. The food however is good overall and the breakfasts excellent, although you have to wait to be seated at peak time (9am). There are a few staff issues mainly due to being understaffed but those who are their cope amazingly well and I have just had two events at the hotel which everybody thoroughly enjoyed and want to attend another if we hold it at the same location. I have to single out Richard Knight at our fist event who was an exceptional General Manager and on the second event Emily Lee a fine replacement for Richard who despite only being at the hotel two weeks was very professional and nothing was to much trouble for her. Once the hotel is refurbished and adequate staff hired this could be an outstanding hotel.
Positive experience: Excellent location but the hotel is very 'tired’ and in need of heavy refurbishment. Staff very friendly with the exception of what appears to be the restaurant manager, a chap in his later 50's with glasses. Speaks to his staff with no respect and in front of customers, who he doesn't treat much better . He made no effort to assist his staff and seemed more comfortable telling them what he wanted done which they doing anyway. Certainly not a 'team player’. Having worked a similar post to him I feel valid in making these comments. At breakfast ,as he thought we had finished eating,we were asked to to take our coffee and vacate dinning room as there was a queue forming .Incidently there was’nt .
Negative experience: Don't Bother..... Stayed as part of a two-day dinner dance event. The main common rooms and evening event was good, entertainment excellent. Staff did all they could being helpful, polite and as efficient as they could be, however it was plain they were short staffed. I had call weeks before the event to extend my stay by two more days and upgrade the room for all four days, which was agreed and paid for in advance. On arrival we were put into a basic room with no offer of a refund for the increased price I had prepaid. The room resembled a small very scruffy broom cupboard overlooking a noise kitchen extraction system and waste bins. Can’t imagine the room had any form of redecoration in many years. The photographs tell the story, in 40 odd years of hotels, this is simply the worst I have had to ever overnight in. We checked out after the event only staying two of the four nights.
Fantastic experience: Thank you so much for such a wonderful experience and stay. We held a celebration event at the weekend and the staff went above and beyond to make the event a huge success. All of the preparation to get the tables perfect, with the cutlery, glasses, mocktails on arrival, any help needed and they were there. I would also like to mention a key person, Emily, who is new as a manager and this was her first event to plan. THANK YOU. Honestly, you couldn't have been lovelier. Emily's communication was spot on, she's mega friendly and helpful and put us completely at ease. Nothing was ever an issue. THANK YOU. We will be back!!
Fantastic experience: Hi, we have just had an amazing celebration event at the Avisford Park Hotel. it was fantastic from start to finish. The staff were brilliant, including Emily, who was so thorough in the detail! Everything was set up ready to go when i asked for. they could not do enough. the service and food was lovely and the grand hall looked stunning. We were so pleased! thank you so much- we will be back!!
Fantastic experience: Booked room only for one night, our rooms (one family and one double) were great with everything we needed. Did use the hotel bar, which was good, but not any of the other hotel facilities. The surrounding area is fantastic and we were able to go for a great walk to a great local cafe and village store. Ideal for a short weekend break.
