Positive experience: Decent equipment, but there is far too much cardio equipment. Even during peak hours not all of it is in use, which takes up space that could be used for weightlifting, that is far more popular and crowded during peak hours. Membership is also painfully overpriced for what you get.

Negative experience: Please make availability of 'Gym only membership as well as both gym&swim membership as me, group of my friends and family are unable to swim , but want to join Gym. However, membership fee is too high to use Gym only.

Positive experience: Staff have always been friendly, polite, and willing to help. The gym equipment is a bit outdated, but well enough to use. Good luck using any of it though between the hours 12-2pm or 3pm-7pm! Swimming lanes generally book up fast and often feel overcrowded (built up and not enough space to swim).

Fantastic experience: Excellent front of house staff, very helpful. Will call someone to help you if needed. The personal trainers and leisure staff are also extremely friendly and helpful. The equipment is very good and with up to date and brand new spinning bikes in their own dedicated studio. The pool is a lovely experience as it’s kept at an ambient temp, nice to get into and not to warm. Unfortunately the health suit has been on and off lately. Is closed atm due to vandalism and other issues. Cleaning might be an issue to some, as this is a well used building, with all ages in groups and clubs, not always being at their best. Plenty of in-house classes for everyone and all abilities. All in all great value for money and welcoming place to spend your time for more than a couple of days a week.

Positive experience: If you read most of these reviews and then land in the middle then you have a fair reflection of the facility. Staff isn't really friendly, but they aren't really rude. The equipment is mostly older (just got all new spin bikes), but it all works properly and if it doesn't they repair it. It's fairly clean, not spic and span, but not as bad as some make it out. They offer a wide range of classes and options for activities for all ages. £41 a month is really not too bad for as many options as they have or we have in the area. All in all I feel like I get my money's worth here.

Negative experience: No wonder why the ratings are low for this place. Well, membership is around £41 which I believe should be enough to fix the automatic door which is at the entrance. It takes ages to open. and why can’t you get more scanning machines for us to scan the code? Why do we always need to queue for scanning? Sometimes old people don’t move quick enough and they chit chat whilst we are waiting in the queue.

Negative experience: I've been working out for many years and have visited numerous gyms, but this is by far the worst gym I've ever been to. I had to come here because my regular gym was closed due to a power outage. Here’s why this gym is not worth your time: 1. **Extremely Dirty**: The gym floor is filthy and clearly hasn’t been cleaned in ages, with sticky stains and dirt buildup everywhere. The shower room is also disgusting and smells terrible, with empty bottles and strange stains all over the place. 2. **Overcrowded with Teenagers**: This gym offers junior memberships, so most of the people using the equipment are teenagers. They form groups, chat loudly, scroll through their phones, and do bizarre exercises to show off, making it hard for others to work out. 3. **Unsafe Environment**: Weights and equipment are left scattered all over the floor, creating a serious tripping hazard. 4. **Tiny Free Weight Area**: The free weight area is very small and cramped, with weights and equipment lying everywhere, making it hard to exercise safely. 5. **Poor Management and Security**: The reception staff is unwelcoming and doesn’t acknowledge anyone entering. There are no barriers or security checks, so it seems like anyone could walk in without paying. 6. **Repeated Issues**: These issues weren't just a one-time occurrence. I experienced them consistently over a two-week period. If you value cleanliness, space, and a well-managed gym, I highly recommend staying away from this place.

Negative experience: Gave up going for badminton both here and at Barry, staff ignore you at reception - too busy talking to each other. Constantly having to badger them to get someone to set up the court so most times start late, hard to get through on phone and website reg. seems now broken. Facilities are sub-par but that could be tolerated if the staff were good. They just aren't.

Negative experience: Atrocious service at this gym. Multiple times I have had terribly rude and disrespectful staff encounters. They're definitely lacking in the customer service department. The sauna has a sign up saying it should be about 85C, however it is never at that temperature. In the entire year I've been going to this center I have never seen it above 70C and I believe this is a cost cutting measure. We pay for working facilities and they're too busy cutting costs to fulfill contractual obligations. We pay for a service and never receive it in full. The jacuzzi hardly works. The swimming pool is largely unused at times and they won't allow people to use the pool in between sauna steam room sessions, even when the jacuzzi is not working. Where's the discount or refund for partial service delivery? Rude encounters by the staff on almost every single visit. I have approached center management about it and they just defend the staff and nothing changes. Poor customer service stems from poor management and filters down through the ranks. I have since cancelled my membership. What a terrible way to run a leisure center.

Fantastic experience: Such a friendly team at the centre, swimming pool is back open, happy days! excellent lane management in the morning, water is warm, changing facilities and showers clean and spacious. The gym is relocated at the moment in the sports hall as the roof is being maintained, but it works and again is a nice environment to work out.

Positive experience: Went here the other day, steam room etc was closed due to grouting work being carried out. Gym equipment was quite ok, fairly clean, has blue roll and spray to clean the equipment down. Male changing rooms have an issue with open drains, wafts of raw sewage smell coming up through the drains- I suspect the water in the trap has either evaporated or just a poor design. 1 private shower and 3 or 4 communal showers, are we still in the 80s? Overall an average experience.

Sauna,steam room,swimming pool,hall 4 football,circuits,badminton,etc etc.Also squash courts,all great too,£35 a month is an amazing price,for all the things to do in there!'I really enjoy cogan. Fantastic experience: Just started going to the gym here, really happy with it, staff have been helpful and friendly and I like the £39 monthly direct debit that you can stop at a month's notice so you're not tied in for 12 months, all very positive!

Positive experience: Had an unexpected e-mail from parkwood Lesiure centre 28th May , I had requested; were there leisure suites still open! They were ! Great, so I had a couple of hours spent in sauna, jacuzzi! Great service once again! Try for yourself's have nothing to loose

Negative experience: Showers are like warm and they smell. Plenty of grime on the tiles and floor whitch is rank. Also get strikes for no reason and fed up of telling staff to clear them. Quick enough taking money from your account but half the experience is unpleasant. If it carrys on I will be revoking my membership. One other thing to mention there's underage kids using facility's like the healthsuite. You mention to staff and they wave it off. Wonder what trading standards will think of this

Even with a membership, you have to book a day in advance with very limited options just for lane swimming, even if it it totally silent in the lanes. Lane sessions never available for anytime past 2 on weekdays. Gym is the only redeeming quality

Positive experience: Did my first Aquafit class today. Disappointed that the 'instructor' never introduced himself, didn't ask if it was anyone's first time... Just turned on fast loud music and leapt around on the poolside expecting everyone to follow. I'm 72 years old could barely do that routine on land let alone in the water! I'm a non-swimmer and can barely take my feet off the bottom! My fault for not checking the level first I guess....

Negative experience: Trying to get hold of someone via telephone is a waste of time. I would like to know is it still OK to use the pool without a printed copy of your ticket. I have the ticket on my phone. Not everybody has access to a computer & printer & had I known this before booking online I wouldn't have bothered.

Positive experience: This is so much better than it used to be when it was run by the council. The changing facilities have been refurbished into a "changing village " which has made all the difference, friendly staff and free parking, I have just joined with a swim membership which is good value.

Negative experience: Facilities are about what you might expect, the staff are friendly enough, but they don't answer the phone and the website is awful. Can't use the facilities without booking, can't book without registering, have tried and failed to register many times - they seem to make it as difficult as possible and its as if they don't want my custom. So they won't be getting it.

Negative experience: Half hour round trip to use the health suite to be told it is closed and opens later. Checked before I left and no reference to this on their website. Just a blanket opening and closing time. Also no reference to when peak and off peak times are. Waste of time. Edit. Thanks for the reply but as far as I am aware the health suite is neither "swimming" or a "class" and as a result I didn't look there. I looked under the facilities/health suite menu. Might be worth mentioning this there too.

Positive experience: Only went to use the fields for the kids to play in. Big open space with football goals and a play area. Nice skatepark there as well. Plenty of parking space available.

Positive experience: Very difficult to get hold of anyone on the phone. Hit and miss as to whether the slide is working. Staff told me you won't know until you get there. When I said my kids would be disappointed if it wasn't working, they said, "You pay for the swimming and the slide is a bonus!". Explain that to an 8 year old!

Positive experience: Always took my 2 little ones there... free swim for school kids through the holidays... there's a slide.... and it's always clean....

Fantastic experience: Went for a swim. Changing rooms were very clean. Friendly staff. Although booking on line is a bit of a faff & if you aren't tech savvy not great. But overall good.

Positive experience: Somebody told me they've got a skate park. TBH, the only thing this skate park is good for is Transitioning. Then when it's not as dawnting you would look at it twice . But other facilities are good just needs updating a bit.

Negative experience: Daughter was refused access to the toilet as we weren't playing sport indoors, but rather the football session held outside. This meant i had to take my daughter home and forfeit the majority of her football session. I found this utterly rediculous as we able to sign in for covid track and trace like other customers. This is one existing customer that will never be returning to penarth unpleasure centre.

Fantastic experience: A great place for anyone looking to begjn or further their fitness journey, it's got everything you'd need and yet not enough to attract the intimidating types, friendly staff, nice classes for all levels and the pool is brilliant, even for non swimmers or beginners, I love going here and I'm very much a beginner to fitness and swimming, the swimming lessons are great

Fantastic experience: My son who has special needs has learnt to swim with an excellent teacher who has brought him on in leaps and bounds. His sessions are the highlight of the week.

Fantastic experience: Since the repetitive effects of Covid-19, cogan Lesiure has seen a dramatic change i.e Gym area has been separated into 3 sections, spacious more breathable termperature controlled ! Lots of sanitizer's available! Other classes get sanitised after each session. Service overall surperb!! Update; they also have an app on Google play were they'll help you sign in the Lesiure venue if clients first timer user! Very easy and useful!

Fantastic experience: Very well maintained now that they had a refurbishment. Changing rooms are now clean. And the gym has great machines and free weights and cardio equipment. Only downside is that to go swimming you have to use unisex changing rooms. Which is a bit stupid considering all the weirdos around.

Negative experience: After checking their website and calling twice without no reply, we decided to cycle down to the leisure centre to go swimming. According to the information that I had collected the place should have been open until 6pm. but it wasn't they closed it at 2:30 due to a personal event. When asking why this information was not available they couldn't answer and couldn't give me the time of day to be spoken to. very rude and unhelpfull

Negative experience: Gym is ok but overall poorly run, unreachable by phone. On a sunday called for half an hour, no answer but answering machine says open until 6 but not mentioned is that the pool part actually closes at 3. Arrived drenched from the rain by bicycle with family only to be told the pool was closing, staff were full of attitude, did not give a flying that our trip was ruined.

Fantastic experience: Not as great looking as it was back in the 90's however it's still great to visit and is alot cheaper than Cardiff pool. They have a decent slide and enough space to spend some time in the pool with your kids to teach them to swim. It's well worth using this valuable and affordable resource.
