Our comment from FitFit UK about Life Leisure Grand Central:

Life Leisure Grand Central, located in Stockport, offers a variety of recreational and fitness activities suitable for all ages. Visitors have noted the following highlights and areas for improvement:

  • Positive Aspects: Many users appreciate the friendly staff and the strong family atmosphere, particularly enjoying the pools and slides for children's activities. The swimming sessions are considered good value, especially with affordable prices for families.
  • Facilities: The swimming pool is well-sized, accommodating both general and lane swimming, and the health suite is praised for being a relaxing space. Some have found the interactive family pool enjoyable, stating it provides a good experience for younger kids.
  • Staff and Service: Most staff members are described as helpful, and specific instructors have received commendations for their engagement during swimming lessons.
  • Room for Improvement: Many users expressed concerns regarding the cleanliness and maintenance of the changing rooms, with frequent reports about dirty facilities and broken lockers. A need for deep cleaning and an overall update to the changing and shower areas was consistently noted.
  • Overall Experience: While the pool facilities are generally appreciated, many reviewers highlighted that better management of cleanliness and maintenance is crucial for a more enjoyable visit. Visitors are encouraged to consider timing their visits to avoid overcrowded swim lanes and to bring their own padlocks for lockers, as old monetary systems for lockers have been phased out.

In summary, Life Leisure Grand Central is a well-loved community hub for swimming and fitness but requires attention to its facilities to enhance the overall experience for its users.

Life Leisure Grand Central: Opinions

Positive experience: I've been swimming here for years and the pool is fine, but yeah, there's no denying the changing rooms are falling to bits and need a complete revamp - preferably with more showers and better drainage. The toilets regularly smell. Many cubicle doors need new locks. Life Leisure and Stockport Council have invested in refurbishing the changing facilities at other sites. I can only hope they're working out a plan for Grand Central because they really need to do something soon. You do need a padlock for the lockers which I get annoys some people. But I'll say this - before when it was "old pound coins" it was very common for wristbands to be broken or missing, or the locks to be simply broken. I can remember one visit where I struggled to even find a locker that was usable! Since they moved to padlocks, most of the lockers are actually usable! In the summer of 2024 they had problems with the boom that splits the pool in half (into two 25m pools), so you regularly have to swim width-ways which is annoying. And appears to have put some customers off coming. It's far better on the 50m swim sessions. They do sometimes let you in the other half if it's not being used for school lessons or by Stockport Metro, but that's not often. It needs to be fixed, but no doubt it's a money thing...

Negative experience: Shame I can’t give a 0 rating. The worse experience of my life. Had to wipe my feet on the way out. Dated, tired and dirty facilities and changing rooms. I would honestly avoid at all costs. Only came here because my usual gym is currently closed. The manager needs to be sacked. No way a manager can run a premises in such disgrace. They should be cleaning the toilets in there not managing the place!

Negative experience: The facilities are actually decent it’s all just dirty, the building itself looks depressing and tacky. The staff are nice, the company can seem sinister, make sure you read the Ts and Cs as they create loopholes like any other company.

Rosalyn Dawson 9 months ago

Negative experience: It’s just not clean. The toilets and changing rooms need a deep clean. Then when the attendants ‘clean’ them, it needs mopping, the whole toilet area needs cleaning. It’s so gross that this is never done. I have to come here 4 times a week for my daughters swim club and it never improves. Not even after the refurbed toilets. They didn’t clean it before or after this and new doors won’t sort out dirty floors and toilets.

Fantastic experience: As it’s my friends birthday month she received a free weeks pass to give to a friend. I used it for the classes and health suite which I enjoyed. I also had a kick start session with Oliver. He asked me what I wanted to gain from the session - I wanted to have a tour of the gym, he showed me how their gym equipment works & he talked me through the boditrax machine. I couldn’t recommend this session with Oliver enough. He was really thorough and took his time to explain everything to me and it wasn’t rushed. Overall I felt welcomed whereas other gyms (not life leisure) I have been to have felt the opposite to the point where I didn’t want to go to the gym due to the atmosphere. I am now going to join this hub

Jones Jones 10 months ago

Negative experience: new "refurb" is pretty dissapointing. Yeah it looks good but the gym has less equipment than before and the quality is no better. May as well go to pure gym or gym group as they have more equipment and are 24/7. Very silly decisions being made.

Fantastic experience: Clean, pleasant experience

Positive experience: I take my son here for the swim and slides and he always enjoys it. Two nice slides and a big pool aswell as the splash zone. I have to say it hasnt changed much since I was a kid so could do with a makeover, especially the changing area which is a bit manky. The duration of the swim and slides should always be at least 1.5 hours. 1 hour isn't enough so not sure why it changes sometimes. All in all it's a decent place to go though.

Carl Bavister 1 year ago

Positive experience: It wasn't made clear you need a padlock for the lockers ....

Positive experience: Good facilities, the staff are friendly. Can get quite busy and therefore crowded as there may not be enough changing areas but otherwise good!

Negative experience: It is such a shame how far downhill grand central has gone. I go swimming here twice a week with my children, it is absolutely FILTHY and dilapidated. It is clearly not been cleaned, even looking at the bottom of the pool is dirty. None of the locks on the changing room doors work properly, you have to bring padlocks for the lockers. Multiple young lifeguards hanging around chatting to each other. Pool and changing rooms are freezing. Swimming lessons for children are unfortunately a joke, you end up doing most of the teaching yourself as the teacher is not interested. So disappointing as I imagine there are some people working here who still care. It needs to be shut down before something bad happens.

Negative experience: Listened to 5 minutes of spiel on the phone without it actually ringing, gave up. How do we contact to ask questions?

Truth OrDare 1 year ago

Negative experience: Staff are onsite but no-one ever answers the telephone - major, major frustration. I’ve tried calling a numerous different times, listen to an automated message for over five minutes and then the phone goes down. No options to leave a message either. Very poor

Negative experience: I've been a member here now for just under a month, and while the facilities are brilliant a lot of work needs to be done. The swimming side of things is a bit of a shamble at the moment, things have been broken since I joined; toilet flush, changing room locks, lockers & the swim barrier in the pool (the latter being the main problem as it causes overcrowding and generally just a bad experience). Honestly, there doesn't seem to be any urgency to fix any of these issues and if you ask the staff the common answer is "I don't know". If you want to come here for lane swimming you can expect a maximum of 3 to 4 lanes open if you're unfortunate enough to have to share the pool whilst general swim is on (again, due to the problems with the barrier in the pool). Despite what I've said I do like coming here, but there's a minimum of 3 months before you can cancel your membership, so I hope to see some improvements in that time. Life leisure - let's see some action for all your paying customers.

Negative experience: Been going here for many years and now I won't return again. I booked a baby and toddler session in the BABY pool. Which was full of teenagers and older kids causing chaos in the baby pool. Life guards watching it all happen not bothered. I had a 10wk old with me and one of the older kids nearly jumped on my baby not looking. I had to leave very early because it was too dangerous. Also, there was people in the pool on their mobile phones taking pictures? Again, life guards not bothered.. as if they were too scared to say something. I mentioned it all to them and they just said "oh". On top of that, it's run down and old. Hard to book something in and when you call they hang up and don't answer

Paul Hulme 1 year ago

Negative experience: Get your website sorted, it’s so difficult just to book a swim session. There’s plenty of good examples from any other provider/centre

Anna 1 year ago

Negative experience: The separation bridge in the middle of the pool has been damaged for more than a month and staff came up with a "wonderful" solution - just to put a rope creating 1 meter cordon before the bridge. Now people cannot swim properly, cannot train and garmin watches cannot detect the end of the pool and turn. Absolutely awful experience. Put a duct tape over damaged section if you are so afraid that someone might cut their toes. Let people swim normally, do not create disadvantage. Meanwhile the other half of the pool is free, but people are not allowed to swim in the other half of the swimming pool, because lifeguards blatanly lie into your face that metro club swimming are coming to swim (who were not swimming at 4 pm any of the days I have been told that). Thus ordinary people are paying for their memberships which includes swimming and do not get any value for that. A lot of people come for a swim to improve physical and mental health.

Oliver Layfield-cole 1 year ago

Positive experience: The pool is great. However, the website for booking the slides is a bit misleading. We booked in purposely for the slides and was told they don't open until 1 or 2 pm in the afternoon.

katie holland 1 year ago

Negative experience: Been going regularly for a couple of weeks now. Only 1 functioning ladies toilet. Only 3 dirty showers. Fun session which promises inflatables etc, has no inflatables, it doesn't even have any toys, noodles or anything. The main pool seems to get colder every time I go. To the point where today I've left after doing a few 50 metre lengths because i was still shivering. Oh and don't bother getting anything out of the vending machines, I ended up with something that was stale and out of date, but the staff can't do anything about it because they can't access the machines . I wish I could access my local pool but of course then I'd have to pay more for my membership... ridiculous.

Scott Bradley 1 year ago

Positive experience: Great facilities, good prices, but the website. Oh my god the website. It's totally inexcusable. It takes 15 minutes to book a swim lesson, you have to use Google to find the link for a Casual Swim, and then no email confirmations as they don't work as no SMTP Authentication. It's just the worst, clunkiest, hopelessly ineffective website. I assume SMBC pay a third party for this hopeless functionality - if so well done!

Jonathan Hill 1 year ago

Negative experience: The facilities are not great at all. Everything is rusted, mouldy, broken or bodged to fix. To get to the sauna you have to walk through a pool of water that has collected near the entrance, and because there is no drainage it's brown and discoloured. The metal fixtures are badly rusted, the lift is a human health hazard, there was a large patch of mould near the entrance to the jacuzzi. I could go on. Not a great place to visit at all.

John Bradshaw 1 year ago

Negative experience: General swim manager if you can call him that (Andy) has just displayed the most discusting show of his unprofessional customer service skills.. he is in no way fit for this job. He literally cornered me and my 8 year old daughter in the pool trying to intimidate us just because we were uninformed of the pool timings and were in the pool 15 minutes early. It’s a good job for him I had my daughter with me.

Martin Stannard 1 year ago

Negative experience: Have been trying to call from 8am to 9:45 this morning. Nobody answers the phone, just get played a pre recorded message that hangs up after 5 mins and 20 seconds. Your website is informative but can't answer all questions, you need to have staff available to answer phone enquiries.

Michael Jones 1 year ago

Negative experience: Old and tatty facilities made far worse by their unclenliness. Filthy changing rooms and lockers, dirty nappies on the floor, green, slimy grout. I know it's busy at times and the building is old but it could be made alot better just by giving the place a good clean. There appeared to be ample staff on to do this.

kate Harverson 1 year ago

Negative experience: Changing facilities are not very clean, the disabled changing room was full of mold, the ceiling, the disabled changing bed was also moldy. The stench from mold was suffocating.

Damon Cushing 1 year ago

Negative experience: Very cold pool, and only THREE showers!

Leona Kenyon 1 year ago

Positive experience: Ok so this has been a difficult one for me to review. The staff are lovely & on the ball monitoring the pool, the vending machines are well stocked, a little pricey but aren’t they all! Theres ample seating in spectator style seating. I love that i can lane swim & the kids can play on the slides and i can see them. The kids love the interactive slides. However…..it’s just a bit tatty! dated! In desperate need of a revamp! The paint work everywhere is chipped, the showers are a bit grubby, the toilets need a good clean. Locks are broken on changing room doors & it generally needs a good spruce up! Now it is one of the cheaper swimming baths around at only £3.05 for children £5 for adults & a family of 4 for £11.90! Bargain! Slight annoyance is that you have to pay extra for the slides at £1.15 each, yes only a bit extra but it’s my pet hate when things are not included! Lockers are a padlock and no alternative! Again slightly annoying as I don’t tend to carry a padlock with me and then I have to not lose the key in the baths! If you forget your padlock you can buy one from reception for £4. I suppose if you’re a regular here & you’re not as forgetful as I am then it’s not too bad! If you’re like me then it’s a £4 padlock every time & a load of padlocks at home that you don’t need (sorry went off then) ️They don’t have their own car park but there are a few around, one being the NCP at the back. It’s free Sundays & bank holidays. The rest of the time it’s only £1 but you have to download the NCP app as it’s cashless parking. I’m not too sure about other parking options as I have only used this one. It is massively lacking a cafe too. But….. you get what you pay for ‍♀️ Will I return with the kids now & again….probably as it’s affordable especially in the school holidays! I would probably give it an overall of 3.5 (just keep your flip flops on )

Joe Spencer 1 year ago

Negative experience: They never answer the phone and when they do they are rude as anything. Rachel who works here just hangs up if you ask anything too difficult. Horribly mismanaged by the staff who clearly want to sit around on their phones doing nothing.

Mark Hawkshaw 1 year ago

Fantastic experience: Very friendly and helpful staff. Great swimming facilities, kids loved it. Changing rooms a little dark but overall a great 1st experience, we'll now be going swimming on a regular basis

Negative experience: Went today for a swim in general don’t get me wrong I know it’s school holidays but all the steps had been moved away from the pool as they were doing swimming lessons two lanes in the middle of the pool but how was I supposed to get it I have problems with my legs so cannot jump or drop in the life guards around the jacuzzi wee all stood around talking no interest in what was going on and they allowed all the kids in when this was supposed to be a relaxing area the place is short of a good clean I am very disappointed what a waste of money

simon Harrison 1 year ago

Negative experience: Dirty too many young kids not doing their job correctly other than talking to each other showers don't work only three showers between 20 plus children

Negative experience: Money grab, there is no lockers, and they rush you out of the pools, we didn’t even get to swim for 40mins. Absolute joke of swimming place

Kilts Ngis 1 year ago

Negative experience: Excellent swimming pool. Poor customer service and communications. Website almost completely un-navigable and when I phoned I got an autoresponse for 5 minutes 20 seconds before being hung up on. The staff are ace face to face, but website needs a total overhaul.

Positive experience: Nice place to swim. Plus free parking in the multi-storey when use the facilities.

Yolande “Yo-yo” Roberts 1 year ago

Negative experience: 1. Water freezing. 2. Jacuzzi rammed. 3. Slides jammed. 4. No cafe (there used to be a cafe!) 5. You need your own padlock for the lockers!! Seriously or leave your phone/car keys as collateral!! 6. 2 slides. They are pretty good but not enough to justify another visit....

Fantastic experience: If you go in morning or afternoon hours, you will find it little clean. Good experience. I went for my children's swimming lessons.

Jaz 1 year ago

Positive experience: Place needs a complete overhaul " grand central " is a title it doesn't deserve. Always dirty no hand sanitizers in dispensers. Old rusty gym equipment. Dirty changing room floors. Probably one of the worst gyms I have used. It needs a serious overhaul of new equipment and never see a cleaner there unhygienic!

Zara Findlay 1 year ago

Negative experience: The staff were lovely and kind and the pool itself was relatively clean and spacious but the changing rooms were not clean. I went for a late session around 9pm so I was probably seeing them at their worst but there was hair and bandaids and just misc stuff around many of the cubicles, as well as a used pad. I also found myself being repeatedly sprayed with cleaning chemicals under the cubicle despite me saying "there's someone in here" to which I'm guessing they just didn't realise but still not great. Bathrooms also stank. I was glad I went with a friend because I think all that coupled with shouting parents in the space of about 15 mins probably would've dampened my mood if I were alone.

Grace Smith 1 year ago

Negative experience: Used to come here a lot when I was a kid, it’s gone downhill since then, not only do you now have to bring your own padlocks for the lockers, they’ve also made the changing rooms mixed sex. As a young, autistic girl the changing room situation caused me to almost have a panic attack as next door to me were a group of lads messing about, one of his friends had flung his swimming shorts over into someone else’s cubicle and they though it was mine. They were threatening to put their hand under to retrieve them after I had clearly stated it was my towel I was standing on Here’s proof:

Negative experience: I came maybe 10 times before with baby one back in 2021 and baby pool nice warm. Then came back with baby two last year. Today it was a pure waste of money and Sunday afternoon. It was so freezing!! My 3.5 year old was shivering after 2 minutes, I didn’t even stay 2 minutes inside with my 12 month old. I was watching a mum with her blue-coloured tiny baby … well we have work next week and no real time to stay home with sick kids. Changing room smelled of pee extremely.

Rachel Shore 1 year ago

Negative experience: My guide to surviving a swim at Grand Central 1. take a padlock, no £1 trolley coins anymore, it isn`t practical or safe to have to leave belongings on the pool side. 2. wear flipflops the floor and changing room are gross, crisps, sanitary wrappers, nappies 3. be prepared to see nudity! some of the changing room locks don`t work 4. Don`t worry about drying your hair, as the dryers don`t work 5. Don`t be alarmed if you see a mouse, as myself and another fellow reviewer have reported them, probably after the crisps!! 6. Consider to have a shower at home, there are only 3 depressing cubicles . The family section has 4 but only work at a trickle if more than one in use. 7. Be prepared for very busy swim lanes early evening and people getting swim rage! After being a regular user for 20 years I have decided I can no longer accept the declining standards at Grand Central. I hope senior management can address the multitude of issues reported in these reviews and seek funds for re-investment,

Negative experience: Awful place, lockers all out of order, changing rooms dirty, cubicles don't lock properly as people can just walk In on you.way to many people in the canging rooms at the same time. Needs closing down..

Kerry Martin 1 year ago

Negative experience: Very tired and dated, in need of an overhaul. Even my 4 year old complained about how dirty the floor is in the changing rooms. There are not enough changing rooms, locks on the doors are not fit for purpose and the lockers where you need to put a £ in often have peoples stuff in (but they've not paid) so you end up having nowhere to put your things u less you have brought a padlock. If I could change to an alternative location for beginners badge one, I would. This swimming pool is grim.

Fantastic experience: Held a birthday party at the pool. Staff were brilliant with the kids and they all had a brilliant time

Fantastic experience: We have been taking our 3 year old and recently our 1 year old to swimming lessons (swim tots and little splashers) and have been really impressed with the program and quality of the teachers (Chloe and Robbie). There is a lovely play area (where the water is warm) and the lessons are of high quality. We used to go to puddleducks, but became frustrated with how expensive it was and how inflexible they were with rearranging sessions (they were nearly 3x the price!). So glad we switched, as the kids love it. There are some issues with the facilities e.g. showers in the main area...if one is on the others don't work, and some of the locks to the doors need replacing, but for the price really can't complain!

Positive experience: Nice place but such a shame the jacuzzi is not warm enough. Could you please heat it up? 31 degrees is definitely too cold, the shower was way hotter.

Negative experience: To be honest I don't think that they have a cleaner the tiles on the side of the pool you can write your name on in the dirt there's green bacteria around the pool seporater in the middle of the pool. To be honest, I was quite shocked. I'm sure if the environmental health went were to go and have a look round the report would not be good

Negative experience: Poor dirty run down swim facility, slides not working ,no fun floats,i booked for a family fun day as described, extremely poor swimming pool, very dirty showers massively rubbish,if you want to stand under a trickle, couldn't even get wet from the shower, this has to be the worst place I have ever been, got ripped off on the parking as was told its free ,actually cost me £5.90 for the pleasure of a terrible experience, tried in vain to contact someone but the place is run by kids, got cut off the phone numerous times after listening to the longest ever phone sale at 5 minutes before you get put through to a human, then cut off,if this is the future then your going to go bust I recommend you demolish the place and try harder.avoid like the plauge or you might just catch it.you won't see me or my family ever there again and I will endeavour to spread the word of the worst experience I have ever had.

Positive experience: Life Leisure Stockport Centre is a fantastic hub for fitness and recreation. The state-of-the-art facilities, friendly staff, and diverse range of activities make it a top-notch destination. Whether you're into workouts, swimming, or group classes, this center has it all. A vibrant atmosphere and well-maintained facilities make every visit a pleasure. Highly recommended for anyone seeking a fulfilling and active lifestyle. Unfortunately they charge a lot for swimming lessons which is more than all inclusive membership and even with that they don't give full membership benefits.

Daisy Diamond 1 year ago

Negative experience: It is so disappointing that such a central location pool has the most disgusting changing rooms I have ever seen. I have been going on a fairly regular basis for months now because it is the only pool I can get to and swimming is an important form of excercise for me, but every time, I find the changing rooms depressing. There are clumps of hair in the showers, rubbish in the lockers and cubicles, wet muddy filth all over the floor. I really want to take my little one swimming but I'm put off taking him because he'll probably get ill from all the germs. It is obvious that the changing rooms are only very lightly "cleaned" a couple of times a day. I was in the shower there and could overhear the staff joking about which of them didn't want to clean the shower next door to mine because it had rubbish on the floor and muddy sludgy water all over it. If the facilities are becoming too disgusting for the staff to even want to approach, then I really don't know how much emphasis the management places on cleanliness. I think the council need to look into it because it's just not fair on the people paying to go here. Also, there are only two hairdryers in the whole place and neither of them properly work. The staff don't seem bothered about keeping any sort of system in place when the pool is over-crowded and no one can properly swim lengths. Their advice is to all swim in one massive circle which means that everyone is held up by each other.

Positive experience: The health suite is the best I've been to for relaxing....staff are friendly & they have 2 big swimming pools... they have a large gym but I don't use it... Only reason it's not 5 Star is occasionally you can't get in the pool for classes & aerobics & swimming lessons & events that annoys me... but the sauna steam room jacuzzi brilliant.

Fantastic experience: My kids and I have a swimming membership. 25 for adults and 33 for children. So they get to register for swimming classes which is same day and time every week. I feel the price is on the higher side. But for me it is close so I decided to take swimming with them for the convenience. It is a subscription ehich means fixed debit every month whether you skip swimming or turn up every day

Positive experience: Could do with a clean in the changing rooms but overall it's a nice swimming space, little shallow pool for babies and kids and a bigger pool for everyone else Inc kids but the bigger pool is much colder. An hour swim wasn't long enough if two hours was an option I would definitely have paid for that. Will be going again.

Positive experience: I been swimming here, pool is cold but not to bad when u get the courage to get in, showers are rubbish and not enough, it feels run down but it must be 25 years old so probably needs a some work doing

Paul Cross 2 years ago

Positive experience: General swim has limited spaces due to lessons taking place, only one lane is kept open, which is too narrow for the number of swimmers.

Negative experience: Do love this pool but I had to put a 2 star due to the fact it is so dirty especially the toilets and changing rooms..also not enough changing rooms..

Negative experience: I have visited this place for the third time today with my son. No issue with the staff; they are all helpful and nice. But, yet again, this place is absolutely disgusting, unbelievably filthy. Every time I’ve been there, the dirtiness of this place has caught my attention, causing my utter disappointment. Whoever is running the place should be ashamed of their poor hygiene and health & safety management. The floors are dirty and black, changing rooms full of rubbish and filth, hair and rubbish everywhere. I will not be visiting this place and do not recommend it. This place should be inspected by the council, and major and immediate improvements toward cleanliness should take place.”

Negative experience: It's so hot inside if your waiting for your child to do their lesson. Its so unbearable. Needs air conditioning for spectators! Very disappointed

Negative experience: Compulsory temporary move from Hazel Grove. No issues with swimming lessons and staff members. All very helpful and nice. However, the cubicles were very dirty, rubbish and hair everywhere. I have checked 4, all the same. My child refused to sit to get change. Could not find shoes covers. At the end of the lesson I saw a mouse casually walking between the pools to the storage room. Reported it to the staff member.

Eddie Davidson 2 years ago

Negative experience: Loads of the lockers broken, staff heard swearing their head off while "cleaning" (chatting) in changing rooms. Hair dryers temperamental, only work if pointing in just the right direction. Toilets broken for extended periods. Life guards that just sit with a mate and chat. Swimming lessons taking up 50% of the general pool while adult swim is on even though there is 5 lanes on the "pro" side of the pool free. Disorganisation in terms of sorting out a slow/medium/fast lane (they are often not marked out with signs and/or the signs are in different places every time). Lanes 7&8 regularly shut. Website is an absolute joke. On one screen it will say "50m masters" at 8pm, and another it will say "adult swim 25m" at 8pm.... . Lane dividers dangerous with bits of steel wire sticking out and broken plastic floats. Many cubical doors have broken "locks". Dome CCTV cameras that appear to point directly into cubicles. Spectators sat filming from the stands on their mobiles while a family swim in underway (even with the light on their phone!). Gym scale computer that regularly doesn't work. "Scanning in" doesn't work (confirmed by one member of staff). None of the turnstiles are activated by scanning a bar code anymore, all that broke years ago it seems. One member of staff tells me I have to wear a band for an adult swim, but the previous 3 years not one member of staff has mentioned it. Vending machine in gym perminantly broken. Families with small children allowed to stay in pool while an adult swim is meant to be going on because the life guards are too worried to assert themselves. Apart from that it's great!! Don't get me started on the "ladies only" swim taking up time in the schedule.

Negative experience: at all! I will never come there again, and he does not recommend everyone to go, the staff are rude, bang people, shout, they only let us into the 1 meter wide pool, 40 people, one of the lifeguards shouted at my sick son for no reason, and he shouted at me for reasons when we called the manager so she defended him, horrible!! who was really nice was at the reception, and the dirt, one of the lifeguards poured lemonade into the pool,

Negative experience: Just tried to call the centre and I’m currently 5 minutes in listening to an advert about life leisure, not even got to the hold part yet. Still listening to the menu. What if I was calling about an important health emergency. Even worse, after waiting almost 7 mins the call just ended and never made it to hold

Nicola Kiwibird 2 years ago

Positive experience: A great pool but I hate the set swim times.... sometimes you need an extra 10 mins

Paul Warke 2 years ago

Negative experience: The changing rooms need ripping and and replacing. They smell like poo, pee and sweat. Locks broken, showers not working and 30 years old! To add to that the water is freezing every time. Absolutely terrible family swimming experience.

Positive experience: Life Leisure Centre offers a decent selection of gym equipment and facilities, making it a solid choice for those looking to stay active and fit. The variety of equipment is commendable, although the space is somewhat smaller compared to other local fitness centres. Despite the size limitation, I've rarely had to wait for a machine or free weights during my visits, which is a plus. The hygiene practices at Life Leisure Centre are evident, with patrons dutifully wiping down equipment after use. However, despite these efforts, the gym occasionally has a somewhat unclean appearance. This might be due to the facility's dated interior, which can give an impression of uncleanliness even when it is not the case. A refresh or renovation could go a long way in making the space feel more inviting. A standout feature of Life Leisure Centre is the fantastic swimming pool. The size and design of the pool make it an inviting option for swimmers of all levels. Unfortunately, I haven't been able to make full use of it due to scheduling restrictions, which can be a bit disappointing for those with limited availability. In conclusion, Life Leisure Centre provides a good variety of equipment and facilities for its patrons. However, the somewhat dated appearance and limited pool schedule can be drawbacks for some. Overall, it's a suitable option for those seeking a local fitness centre, but it may not be the best choice for everyone. Good equipment selection in a smaller space, patrons are hygiene-conscious, but the facility looks dated. The swimming pool is inviting, but scheduling limitations can be an issue.

Fantastic experience: Very good value for soon and slide session with family. Best to use the main changing area rather than the limited family changing. All very clean with friendly staff

Stuart Hayward 2 years ago

Negative experience: Today adult swimming nope..full of kids..Lane swimming nope..lanes finally arrived then moved across. Children allowed for lane swim during adult swim...The most useless 8 attendants in the world! If you book..don't bet on it ! Kids everywhere when they shouldn't be lanes not where they should be..garbage. couldn't manage a rowing boat!

Positive experience: The changing rooms are currently very old and tired, definitely need updating. Children's play pool was great for younger ones, but maybe only up to around 7y/o

Aryas 2 years ago

Fantastic experience: I always come here very cheap and great fun for all the family. You do have to book a ticket with slides if you want that aswell.

David Sinclair 2 years ago

Negative experience: For a swimming pool it's incredibly difficult to actually swim. First of all half of the pool is always closed off to the public for some reason. Every time I go it lies empty. In the half of the pool the public is allowed to swim in they have now stopped people swimming in about 2 lanes worth of the pool. I was told it was for lessons. Fair enough, but it is regularly empty and you can't use it due to 'lifeguard cover.' So what you're left with is dozens of people crammed into 3 lanes as the reminder of the pool has kids swinging from the flags and jumping about everywhere. It's a complete mess. It really shouldn't be that difficult but somehow for Grand Central it is!

Paul Dickinson 2 years ago

Positive experience: Far too busy to really enjoy the Oasis splash park with my daughter. Children are far too old and big to be in there, or playing in the jacuzzi (although I don't blame the kids). Shame really

Dr Saeed 2 years ago

Negative experience: My experience at Life Leisure swimming pool was disappointing. The lowest maintenance in showers, lockers, and changing rooms was evident, creating an unclean, smelly and uncomfortable environment. To add to the frustration, the hair dryers were not working, leaving visitors without essential amenities. Improvement is much needed.

Negative experience: Anyone that says this place is clean and tidy is lying awful if could give minus I would toilets minging never been cleaned none of lockers work everyone leaving clothes in them not locked ! I could write stuff for hours

Victoria Fairhurst 2 years ago

Positive experience: Nice warm baby pool definitely the warmest we've tried in the central Manchester areas. The changing rooms are grim though definitely need a revamp and the lockers small for families and are half £ coins half padlocks . If you can ignore the changing rooms the pool is great for kids

wayne kelly 2 years ago

Fantastic experience: Visited this today with my wife and newborn son as this was the first time we took him swimming in the baby area, and he loved it so much that we were going back again and again. The cost for the baby and two adults was £10 well worth the price.

Felicia pudsey 2 years ago

Fantastic experience: Great price and great facilities for all ages and abilities. The hour sessions are just long enough. Would recommend and will be visiting again. Cheap parking too!

Cassie Earl 2 years ago

Negative experience: Staff are completely disinterested and the whole place looks scruffy and old. Considering it's more expensive than most gyms, it's surprising they get anyone to sign up.

Lewis J. Bramhall 2 years ago

Fantastic experience: This review is solely for Karl Ward (Wardy), what a pleasure it is to train around a manager like that. Always keeps the floors in check, stops for a chat and asks what you're doing & how you're getting on, offers advice without being patronising and is overall a testament to the gym. He lives, eats & breathes the gym life and I think he's a standout positive influence on mine and my friends' experience when we're training. Give that man a raise!

Negative experience: ⛔️Today 15 June 2023 in the LIFE LEISURE GRAND CENTRAL , a spinal accident happened to someone in the pool, due to the non-observance of the pool and swimming and lifeguard rules, and this pool could be very dangerous for people, if the⚠️ backstroke flags⚠️ were installed before the start of swimming time, This incident did not happen. Irresponsibility, negligence, risk, accident. No❌️ ..... PSOP⚠️⚠️⚠️⚠️ No❌️.......NOP⚠️⚠️⚠️⚠️⚠️⚠️ ( POOL SAFTY OPRETING PROCEDURES ) (NORMAL OPRETING PROCEDURES)

Negative experience: This is a life leisure facility, so I would have expected better. The reception area is ok, welcomed with polite and friendly staff, but from here it gets poor the entrance and stair well to the pool looks dated, discoloured and dirty the changing area oh wow you are lucky to find a locker that works most are out of order the changing room doors do not stay locked, the drains smell that run through the changing area, although the general area was clean the tiles look old and dirty. Out of 3 hairdryers, only one was working, and we had to queue to use it. On a plus side, the pool was ok. The Life guard staff were good and the slides are also ok

Jenny Garns 2 years ago

Fantastic experience: Lovely place and my boy loves the oasis family pool the only thing I'm wondering is if i could book a 2hr session as my boy does not want to come out ha . Thank you to all the staff at grand Central for making it a safe and lovely complex for both adults and children to enjoy xx

Positive experience: Great place to swim. Choose your times if you want to swim without a lot of people. Booking online is so easy

Helen Leslie 2 years ago

Positive experience: Not the best swimming baths to go too, more for convenience with living so close to it, the changing rooms are absolutely filthy. And hardly any lockers working, think they have been there since I was a kid. The changing rooms need a full revamp. And the toilets and changing rooms need to be cleaned on a daily basis, there was plasters floting about in the pool so definitely not being checked over, not bad price for an hour swim, but.Wont be in a hurry to come back unless it's had a full on deep clean.

Deb Z 2 years ago

Fantastic experience: Brilliant time at slides and splash. 55 minutes warm pool and could use hot jacuzzi. Lots of playful equipment spraying water out for toddlers and youngsters. Not deep water but deep enough to sit in up to waist. My girl was too young n small to go on big slides but they had a baby slide in the oasis pool £12.00 for 3 of us. Was busy but worth it. Definitely going back. Great experience for little ones and young children. Clean changing rooms and toilets but alot of people waiting to use after pool use. Overall great experience.

Positive experience: It was ok .first swim in ages thought it wud be quiet but a few kids in the lanes we was allowed to swim in so made it hard to do full lengths.had to keep stopping .if i was to go again id go after 7pm Most of the lockers were broke or no keys in them

Negative experience: Didn’t accept my cancellation of ‘trial membership’ within 14 days. All of a sudden a utility bill and photo ID was required for cancellation when it wasn’t required for sign up. Because I refused .. I then received a bill for a term.

Sibu Thomas 2 years ago

Positive experience: Good place for a workout. Enough parking accessable location. The pools are good. Could improve on equipment quality and sauna timings.

Lucy 2 years ago

Negative experience: Most of lockers broken. Complicated as had to carry all my stuff from one locker to different locker . It was difficult giving assistance to my blind friend cause of lockers. Getting in and out of pool was tricky could do with updating disability ♿ have a slope going down to pool are actual steps rather than stair steps . I like pool but prefer if there was more adult only sessions. Should also have adult only slides open. As most adults love to be big kids . Spa jacuzzi tock ages to come on . Solarium did not work Steam room was ok Sauna nice and hot . Shower cold bucket not work . I it been upgraded but not much difference from 24 years ago in fact I think it was better in 2000.

Letia Jordan 2 years ago

Fantastic experience: Inexpensive, larger pool, separate smaller kids pool and hot tub! Kids love going and have been doing swimming lessons for my daughter for the last few months and the instructors are so lovely and I love being in there watching her! Nice atmosphere for sure. Also of course a huge gym, and sauna room!

A G 2 years ago

Negative experience: Sons pool party was a shambles, the staff all gave me different answers to enquiries before the party, we was given no time to decorate or put the food out in the party room before the kids came in(non of it is provided by them) few floats and rings in the pool for the kids, there was an inflatable assault course the kids weren't allowed on as they wasn't strong enough swimmers, the staff were present whilst kids were in pool but as soon as we entered the party room they'd all vanished couldn't even ask anyone how to use the music centre, what time we needed to leave and thank god we had no accidents because we'd of been on our own. Due to having 0 time to set the party room up and the staff all telling me different things like when we could decorate the room and who provides what I would strongly recommend using another pool. It caused so much unnecessary stress and feel the staff couldn't of cared less I did have one point out I'd of had a better experience had I paid for platinum which was the icing on the cake really.
