Everlast Gyms - Sunderland: Opinions
Negative experience: customer service is poor and wish i didn’t sign up to this gym.
Fantastic experience: Great Gym, great staff
Fantastic experience: Absolutely love the classes at everlast. The studios are in an excellent condition, the staff running them are amazing and some extra classes have recently been added to ensure that they arent overcrowded!
Fantastic experience: Great gym fantastic classes and atmosphere with the best instructors and lovely friendly staff highly recommended
Fantastic experience: I go mainly for the classes which are exceptional and I really enjoy Especially Zumba with Samantha Myers where you get a great cardio workout and she makes it such fun too
Fantastic experience: I've been a member of Everlast for over two years. The classes are fantastic, Zumba is amazing and it's my favourite time of the week. Thankyou for adding more classes recently .
Fantastic experience: Great staff very friendly I’m a wheelchair user and do the classes like Zumba and combat, and all the staff are trained to adapt them to your needs and very helpful. I would definitely recommend to anyone with disabilities or without no matter what ability you may have. 10/10
Fantastic experience: Loving all the classes at the moment, especially the new ones at the weekend, just need a new dance fit/ line dancing.
Fantastic experience:
Positive experience: Reasonable gym, has what you need equipment wise and doesn't fall short of space. Seemingly reasonable at peak hours also.
Fantastic experience: Very easy to find.
Fantastic experience: Place is great, staff are sound, don't have any issues so far. I've not lost much weight like but if I went more often I'd probably do better. I signed my lass up as well. The pool is usually pretty quiet and we've e never not been able to have a swim when we got there
Negative experience: Nearly all cardio machines do not work! Gym is always dead. App never works and staff don't even ask who you are or check your membership when going in. Beggers belief why the owner does not replace the old non working equipment. I really can't rate any higher...
Fantastic experience: Very friendly and helpful staff and great facilities
Negative experience: The staff are incredible and really helpful. Just a shame the gym is so outdated. Half the machines are out of order or don’t work properly. Weights have been rubbed off so you can’t see. It’s a shame because if this was held at the same standard as metro centre it would be perfect. The swimming pool and steam room are good but the men’s showers have an odour that never goes.
Negative experience: Used to be a fantastic gym. Recently rejoined and the place is now dropping to bits and filthy. Showers are full of black mould and broken floor tiles. Pool had used plasters round the edge, gym floor was a mess and the equipment old and on it's last legs. Steam room has mould issues too, massive health risk. Did not see any cleaning taking place. All three members of staff I passed on the way out were sat on their phones.
Negative experience: Stuck in a contract for 12 months after they removed the spa - main reason I joined. The pool is small but ok.. my biggest concern is the manky sweaty gets who come out of the sauna and then sweat their way straight into the pool without having as shower as if it’s a normal thing to do. Rotten.
Negative experience: Was alright when I started in October, Fast forward to now, stuck in a 12 month contract, the steam room is falling apart, tiles missing, dirty etc etc, pools always freezing and the jacuzzi’s been removed, lack of upkeep is unreal, I don’t put it on the staff there necessarily as it seems like a higher up issue. As far as the gym goes everlast gyms in general are quite big inside but lack in machines, only 1 of every machine so a bit of a nightmare when it’s busy. Tried to cancel via the cancellations team due to the pool and spa issues and removal of the jacuzzi claiming it’s a removal of a facility which is clearly stated in the contract you can cancel if they take a facility away, then they keep replying saying they don’t class it as a ‘gym facility’ it only says ‘facility’ in the contract… not ‘gym facility’ back and forwards about 20 times with them… still getting nowhere, so many better gyms for the price
Negative experience: Truly awful! Half the seats are torn on the cable machines. A number of machines are out of order. Fans on treadmills broken. Missing weights, Cable machines damaged, Cup holders on cross-trainers broken so your drink just falls through. Boxing bag should've been replaced years ago, its so badly torn. Staff on front desk used to greet you and say goodbye, now they just play with their phones and don't look up (even when you say hello). Pool over crowded, Jacuzzi gone, showers stink, Weight Scales gone and overall just grubby and poorly kept. When this was DW it wasn't perfect, but this has gone to the pits since changing to Everlast.
Fantastic experience: Good mix of old school and newer gym equipment. Best PT's in the North, amazing classes, Swimming Pool and Steam Room for £30 a month, bargain
Negative experience: Didn't know local gym was closing , no notification . The one used in Sunderland overall by young lads running around. Pool freezing , spa closed . Always some machines not working .. cancelled membership
Positive experience: Decent gym with plenty of kit, friendly staff and overall the atmosphere in the gym is good. There are some downsides to it, if a machine breaks it takes weeks for it to be repaired sometimes months. A lot of young lads training together in groups of 4 and 5 sometimes more which can be a pain as they hog the machines for way too long. There's always word of the place getting a refurb, but they've been saying that for years and years, a lot of the machines are still from the old DW gym that was there and the machines are battered and falling to bits.
Negative experience: Great potential, but falls short in many areas. Cleanliness is always absolutely sparkling - always someone on the gym floor cleaning no matter what time you go in. Offerings of machines, weights, etc is broad and covers everything you could need... (if they worked. I'll come back to that.) All but one of the staff on the desk are lovely and welcoming. However, that's where the positives stop. Maintenance is close to non existent. in 3 months I've seen machines that have been broken for weeks if not months at a time. One cycle machine was only just fixed, having been broken day 1 of me attending the gym. Treadmills are dropping off like flies and don't seem to be even considering a fix (2 of them are quickly approaching 2 months I believe). Cable weights all worn and some snapped, again taking weeks to fix. Jacuzzi and sauna recently out of order for a good month. Gaping hole in the ceiling of the mens changing room when I came last week, dripping lightly, a week later now dripping heavily and splashing all over the floor (Despite the bucket catching the water being almost full to the brim). Absolutely no urgency to fix things at all, even if its going to cost them more leaving it. Like in this case. Mens toilets in the changing rooms are also out of order and have been for a good 6 weeks. The upstairs disabled facilities have been remarked as Male Toilets - Which is an awful band-aid. Gigantic hole in the plaster of the stairs walls covered over by a banner for 2-3 weeks now.. rather than, you know, getting someone in to fix it. No, the sign didn't stop people noticing. A much nicer gym than my previous one in terms of, at least potential, offerings.. but management and maintenance doesn't even begin to compare. As another review mentioned, membership comes out on time at full price every month despite these major shortcomings, which is frankly unacceptable. Guess thats what the 12 month contract trap is for.
Positive experience: Staff are great the gym is great however when things get broke they're broke for weeks sometimes months, mens toilets have been broke for a few weeks now, I'd suggest getting a new maintenance team.
Negative experience: The gym is absolutely shambolic machines are constantly broke takes weeks for them to be repaired. Sauna and Jacuzzi are constantly opened and closed and when they are closed they are closed for weeks at a time. There is never a reduction in membership when you only are able to use a percentage of the facilities. Can’t wait to change gyms.
Positive experience: Good Blean gym
Negative experience: Its got the stuff in you need but it's in desperate need of new equipment
Fantastic experience: Quiet
Positive experience: It's a fantastic place to work out. There's a swimming pool, a jacuzzi and steam room. Exercise classes are amazing!! I love it..
Negative experience: poor management, stinks, full of Chavs. unhelpful staff who will try and steal from you.
Fantastic experience: Really great place to work out and relax, clean spacious changing rooms.
Fantastic experience: Staff, facilities, Everything brilliant
Fantastic experience: Good place to get fit and relax
Fantastic experience: Always clean and well looked after the machines
Fantastic experience: It's got everything here gym suna jacuzzi pool spin class yoga ect why go anywhere else
Fantastic experience: Excellent facilities and staff very helpful
Negative experience: I've been a loyal member of Sunderland Everlast gym for years, but I have to say that it's not the same gym that it used to be. The staff turnover is high, and it seems like there's a new face every other week. This lack of consistency has led to a decline in the quality of the gym. The most significant problem is the groups of children and adolescents who come in and run amok. They misbehave and have no regard for other gym-goers' safety, often using the exercise equipment inappropriately and dangerously. The staff seems to have no control over them, and I've seen multiple instances where they could have easily injured themselves or others. It's unacceptable and puts everyone at risk. Additionally, I've witnessed a group of men wrestling on the gym floor, which is completely inappropriate and dangerous for everyone around them. This is another example of the management's lack of control over the gym's environment. The gym equipment is in terrible condition. The machines are often broken and not fixed properly, causing them to break again after just a week or two. It's frustrating to have to wait for a machine to be fixed or find out that it's still not working correctly after it's been "repaired." It's a waste of time and money, and it's clear that the management doesn't care about their equipment's maintenance. Moreover, the air conditioning in the summer is nonexistent, and the gym is like a sauna. In the winter, it's the opposite, and it's freezing inside the gym. It's difficult to exercise in such extreme temperatures, and it's another example of the management's neglect. Finally, the steam room is a disaster. It's filthy, and it never functions as a steam room should. It's supposed to be a place for relaxation and recovery, but instead, it's just another source of frustration. I don't understand why the staff doesn't clean it regularly or fix the problem. Overall, I'm extremely disappointed with Sunderland Everlast gym. It used to feel like a family, but now, it's the worst it's ever been. The management needs to take control of the gym once again before someone gets hurt. Save yourself the trouble and go somewhere else.
Positive experience: Clean gym with good equipment.
Fantastic experience: I've slowly began to change my life at this gym over the last few months and that has been massively assisted by the professionalism and expertise of the the PT's (the ones I've met at least), James and Jonathan. I've hated the idea of going to the gym all my life but this is a welcoming place that I love to attend thanks to great facilities and staff.
Negative experience: I joined to attend some fitness classes Everlast has the best studios for classes in the area (good size, with nice dim lights and good air-conditioning, without metal pillars in the middle or a see-through back glass wall (as you may be able to see at jd). This gym seems more mature-female-customers-friendly comparing to my previous gym. It has own, large car park so no parking fines issues for members. Nevertheless, the management team has changed recently and the new crew is much less supportive of customers from ethnic minorities. The general manager is rarely seen anywhere and the assistant manager is left in charge. She can accuse you of imaginary 'crimes' and was now given the power to cancel your membership for making a complaint. Also making any video to show the place to your friends/encourage others to join can be used against you as an excuse to terminate your membership, which I think is rather sad. All instructors are white, local (no diversity) and the classes usually look the same. The average age of an instructor in this gym is approx 40- 45. Instructors generally respect your privacy and will not record you with their mobile phone/cameras during your workouts & post it on social media. You can come here after work, not looking camera-ready and just enjoy your workout as you should (provided you are local). Also video calls are not allowed in the changing room here. The website was recently revamped- and the classes timetable is a somewhat messy (not always in a chronological order but works). The team of instructors is small and most of them deliver multiple classes each week. The atmosphere of the gym floor is similar to jd but the music is not as loud (some people come with headphones on and listen to their own music. The equipment is much older with only two really used rowing machines. The swimming pool is less than 1.5 m deep. The gym would benefit from at least ONE good i.e. fit & positive body pump-style class instructor, who can create a welcoming atmosphere and who could exercise with the class. Bullying and prejudiced racist conduct towards customers should not be accepted as a joke by the management. Instructors who would do this are not only damaging to the reputation of the brand but also to public health. Not to mention lost memberships. So at the moment I am unable to recommend this gym to anyone form ethnic minorities. If you drive, then The Gym Etc in Gateshead may be a good option for you as they have more pump and combat classes and the monthly price is lower. The spin room needs an upgrade. The decor is outdated (80s vibe with too bright wallpaper on one side). The room should be painted (medium to dark) grey. The current wallpaper is creating an 'unbalanced' feeling when you sit on your bike. The bikes are old and too 'fat. These also lack so you will not be able to see your speed/rpm/resistance level and calories burnt during workouts= makes the workouts boring. Sadly, jd is ahead of Everlast when it comes to the spin room design in Sunderland. Slim design stationary bikes with monitors are much more fun to ride. Some advantages here; you can control temperature in the showers -so any temp. from cold to quite hot is available. There is always some liquid soap in the shower cubicles. Changing rooms are clean but without any cleaner 'living' in there and bothering members. The changing rooms are large /do not feel overcrowded. Unfortunately due to the way I was treated I am unable to give any more stars.
Positive experience: Great gym, atmosphere is great and staff are really nice people. Could do with an equipment refresh in areas though
Negative experience: Absolutely scandalous how long the jacuzzi been broke , Drains absolutely stink when you shower after pool, Pool crumbling away , Drafty off the windows, and barely any classes some days , Yet still charged full whack , Oh removed the scales that you use for bmi etc
Positive experience: Needs a good clean and paint job in the showers and all round tidy.
Fantastic experience: Just love going to Everlast gym & swimming, staff are so friendly, helpful & make your day
Fantastic experience: This is the most well organized gym in Sunderland. They have all the machines you can think of. I love the pool part, cos after gym you can stretch and relax in warm water.
Negative experience: Love this Gym, but why is Southport £10 a month in an affluent area but everywhere else its £30+? Such a difference in price. Why?
Fantastic experience: Great place to train
Positive experience: Good
Positive experience: Good Gym and enough machines available to train, staff welcoming and cheerful but the wet area at times out of order or getting maintenance carried out.
Fantastic experience: Great place to get super fit
Negative experience: Machines often out of use for a month before being removed and not replaced. Pool is often crowded, none of the showers in the gym work and they're stuck on boiling water temperatures so expect 3rd degree burns if you dare wash in the unsanitary showers. I can concur about the green lagoon and have seen staff using disinfectant to clean poolside showers which inevitably runs into the pool itself.
Fantastic experience: Unreal gym it's.right on my doorstep access to everything u need
Fantastic experience: Been going for 4 years now - class equipment and friendly staff. Plenty room for everyone.
Fantastic experience: Gym/sauna/pool is never that busy. Decent enough equipment to train
Negative experience: Love sharing a cosy swimming lane with half a dozen other swimmers? Adore being constantly splashed from every angle by children taking part in swimming lessons and by parents who throw their children across your lane as you swim? If you answered yes then this is the gym for you! Revel in the sights of the ducktaped mirrors as you stroll towards the green lagoon (don't worry, it's just a little problem with the pool clarity) which is renowned for its invigorating 24 degree temperatures. An army of ants by the poolside wait to welcome you into this oasis of tranquility where Covid restrictions are thrown out of the window, where the enthusiastic screeches of children playing in the leisure waters from 2pm until 5pm. Pool closed for maintenance? Don't worry, our expert customer service representatives will leave a small sign in reception a few days before so (if you come in) you will immediately be informed!
Fantastic experience: Staff are helpful, gym is clean (especially during this pandemic) and other members are always friendly. I've yet to try the classes but I'm sure they're top notch too.
