"I am absolutely delighted with everything about Nuffield Bridgend and the Nuffield team. I always feel welcomed at the centre and love the relaxing atmosphere. This really is my favourite place to come to relax and de-stress." - Shakira Bennett
"I really enjoy coming to the centre and feel my physical and mental wellbeing have benefitted from my visits. I feel very welcome as the staff are always very enthusiastic in their greetings. The centre is always well maintained, as are the pool and spa facilities." - Vanessa Powell
"All the staff in the gym are friendly, and nothing is too much trouble. The beauty staff are also so friendly and helpful. Some gyms I have been member of in the past can be intimidating, but this is the first gym where I feel at ease and will train on my own."

Nuffield Health Bridgend Fitness & Wellbeing Gym: Opinions
Fantastic experience: Loved the legs bums and tums session with Callum, it would be nice if it was on more than 1 day a week
Fantastic experience: Good club, welcoming service, nice pool and Gym
Negative experience: Used to be a great gym until they kept upping the prices, trainers leaving within months and no upgrades to any the equipment but the shower areas get a fancy new towel hook, steam room upgraded twice within six months and oh the jacuzzi area completely covered. Classes went a bit down hill for me, seemed all over the place and even when you booked, too many people unbooked would try and cram in or show up late disturbing the class. The gym equipment has been faulty and the same since I joined two years ago, water fountain in the gym always out of order although it was just fixed recently. Dumbbells and kettlebells still exactly the same, some falling apart too. Didn't want to leave but they upped the prices again and I got told .. basically "ah well, we can cancel your membership then". Just felt for money not the wellness they promoted in the end. **old review from 2 years ago** Serious improvement and upgrade from my last gym I went to. The showers and toilets actually work whereas the last place I went to had toilets that didn't flush and dodgy showers, I'm really happy for what I'm paying PM as I do work for the NHS. It's even more of an upgrade and enjoyment just being part of the classes where you feel welcomed and can join in and the swimming pool is a big bonus for me. Don't get me wrong, I'm no Olympic swimmer but it's nice to just paddle! I feel more motivated and more happier in myself coming here so thank you
Negative experience: Time to put this place out of its misery. The staff are nice and shouldn’t be blamed for what’s happened to this place. Used to be worth the money but this is no longer the case. The main draw has always been the pool and relaxation facilities. Unfortunately, these days, the sauna is always running under temperature (around 75 degrees) and is packed to the rafters most of the day due to needing to sit in it for 45 minutes to feel any benefit. It is simply not large enough to cater for the numbers that use it. Also, the hydrotherapy pool was removed under the guise of saving the planet and all that remains in its place is an empty tiled space that serves no purpose whatsoever. You’d think that adding a larger, well functioning sauna to this vacant space would be a good (and cheap) investment - and it may have kept my family as members - but this is not a club that appears to care about member satisfaction. I don’t believe this blame can be pointed at the staff who run the club. I get the feeling they have little real input into the way things are done here. The gym equipment is terrible. Dated machines that are intermittently out of service or on many occasions held to gather with sticky tape. The whole gym floor requires investment and updating. Nuffield: pull your fingers out or put this place out of its misery once and for all.
Negative experience: Additional review 24/12/24- the brand new water fountain installed after the last one gave up and was out of action for 8 weeks approx, has now been out of order for the last 2 weeks. A real shower of poor value and lack of respect for the paying member from the group directors. Additional, Additional review December 2024, membership increasing by 9% now rating 1 star, again last 4 visits unable to use sauna it's simply too small, vote with your feet and leave. Been a loyal member here but as soon as contract is up I'll be leaving, taking facilities away and increasing prices drastically, not improving existing facilities?? Think higher management want to shut this gym down by lowering membership numbers. Additional review (November 24) lowered to 2 stars- the sauna is way too small and on average I'm only able to use it one out of every 3 visits as it's so busy and not during peak times either, so for 63 quid a month, there's no spa pool anymore and realistically no sauna, there's a huge space for a larger sauna guys, please use your business sense and move the sauna to where the hydro pool was so it can comfortably seat more than 5 hairy arsed blokes. Member here for a long while. It went down hill massively after COVID, poor steam room tiny sauna old gym, then I left and returned as a member. The rating is for potential new members paying full wack £63 a month, it's not good value for money these days. The steam room refurb is excellent, a proper steam room but the infuser is rarely pumping out any oils but it's melting in there these days as it should be. The closure of the spa hydro pool area has seen a lot of regulars leave and this has made a very small sauna seem even smaller. Often groups of 3-4 people come in together and it's game over getting a seat- it's usually full as it seats 5-6 comfortably only, but probably labeled as a 10 seater.... The sauna is now inferior to local rivals. The real winner here is the swimming pool, best in the borough, it's excellent and relaxing. The gym is sound but badly needs upgrading, updating and expanding to be the best gym in Bridgend but the times I go- when it's quieter- I don't need to wait for anything too long. Monday-tuesday at 5pm just forget it. I noticed recently the only water station in the gym has been out of order for over 2 weeks, that's poor for £63 a month. The water station outside the gym door is just a fountain and bottles cannot be filled properly.
Negative experience: The staff are friendly. They are trying to improve the environment with decorating but the equipment is poor. Notvenough pilates but apparently they don't pay well. The worst thing is the parking issue. They don't own the land so you have to put your registration in the terminal or be fined. Despite doing this and showing a photo plus evidence that I signed in the gym. The parking company say I parked legally but reduced the charge to £20 from £60 to cover their admin fees. The Nuffield say they can't do anything. So everything I go to the gym I am worried I will be fined. I have therefore cancelled my membership.
Negative experience: Average gym for high cost. So many issues since joining. Changing rooms without drying facilities and only 2 working showers. You can’t get a drink of water unless you wait 15 mins for a drip to fill your bottle. There’s no hooks for cable workouts, many missing machines and the trainers spend more time flirting with clients and taking up the use of the machines than actually a training them and focusing on the issues. Puregym is actually far better and it’s 1/3 of price. Puregym even has free training programs.
Fantastic experience: Just finished a 24 week joint pain program with Nuffield health. It was superb. At 72 years old I didn't envisage using a gym. My coach, Emma was amazing. She encouraged me from the outset and continued her support throughout the full program. She was knowledgeable and very helpful over all the various steps of the plan. I have now finished the complete plan and have fully joined the Nuffield Gym. I intend to continue my journey to a more healthy and fitter lifestyle I must also mention here that all the staff are very friendly, helpful and can't do enough for you. All in all, thank you Nuffield Health and ALL your staff. Hywel Lloyd
Positive experience: Highly recommend the Joint Pain Programme, Emma is amazing and so understanding. Great facilities, great kit, great classes, a few improvements needed but much better than it was a couple of years ago.
Negative experience: If you want an aging gym with plenty of out of order machines then this is the place for you. They'll tell you they are waiting on parts, but reality some machines have been out of order for months. If it takes that long to get a part, you should probably just buy a new machine. 4 months and counting since they've had a working step up machine. Half the treadmills out of order. Down from 5 to 3 rowers. Even the entrance door doesn't work properly. Embarrassing for the price they charge.
Negative experience: A very badly run gym. Cancelling your contact is almost impossible, they've agreed they own me a refund but I'm finding it impossible to actually get the money, just exhausting
Fantastic experience: Awesome Gym, lovely staff, good pool, excellent steam room and sauna
Fantastic experience: An amazing gym! amazing pool, sauna & steam room. Very relaxing and ambient space. The gym is also well equipped & there are studios with a wide variety of classes available.
Negative experience: This gym is horrible why haven’t we had updates like other Nuffield gyms? I recently went too a few other 3 tier Nuffield gyms and they didn’t have a single machine out of order!! Theres nearly as many out of order machines as there is working in Bridgend!!! They had up to date machines not old and ripped like Bridgend, the machines have iPod on them that’s how old they are! I can’t believe that they still have virgin stickers on them which virgin took over in April 2011 so in 13 years the equipment is still the same. It’s annoying because if they actually invested what everyone is paying for it could be a really good gym the staff are amazing and always friendly. They’ve also got hot water issues currently most likely due to the outdated boiler they don’t want to pay out for until they absolutely need too..
Negative experience: I am unsatisfied with the quality of service and equipment at this gym given the price of my membership. Many machines are currently out of order, the running machines lack necessary switches to adjust speed and incline, and some machines are visibly patched with tape. Despite reaching out to management with my concerns, I felt dismissed and ignored. I received explanations blaming third-party machine suppliers and the rising costs of living. Furthermore, the membership fees have increased while the equipment and management remain subpar. As a result, I have decided not to continue my membership and would not recommend this gym in comparison to other options available.
Negative experience: Absolutely avoid this scam of a gym, terrible dated facilities and not only do they charge you upto £63 p/m with mid contract hikes, they actively take away facilities that you paid for in the first place. There are other gyms available at half the price which don't rip off its customers.
Negative experience: Machines are always out of service, not enough equipment to cope with peak times, put your prices up regularly with little warning mid contract so there is nothing that can be done! Removed jacuzzi to save money yet they keep upping the costs! Avoid!!!
Negative experience: Dirty gym, no TVs working, looks dated and tired. No cleaning stations with antibac or paper towels to be seen. Caught a bad cold from her following training.
Negative experience: God awful company, terribly run so called fitness club. There are way better gyms in the area for a fraction of the price. They shut the spa here but left the ones in the English clubs running. Shows their regard for Wales. Don't ever think of working here, you'll be treated really badly. So much better on offer, avoid this place like the plague. The gym equipment is ancient, get a better workout from items from Argos.
Negative experience: Unsure how this place has 4/5 stars as it for sure does not deserve it. I joined the gym mainly for the spa facilities - Pool, Sauna, Hot tub etc all of which have closed down or broken multiple times with month long delays in repairs. The gym it's self is tiny and out dated. You only like 10-13 people in there and you have already run out of equiptment. Weights are rusty, benches falling apart and barely any actualy gym equiptment which is very shocking for the premium price you pay. I'm giving two stars as my experience with the staff there has been great and they are lovely people working in a tough situation where they have to deal with terrible, constantly breaking facilities that feels like it hasn't been updated since the early 00's. All in I wouldn't recommend and in fact I would chose even the local leisure centre for cost to equipment ratio. Paying more for less here than even your basic Pure gym.
Fantastic experience: Really nice facilities and friendly staff
Negative experience: Overpriced. You pay a premium membership for a very shabby & run down facility. Changing rooms are grubby and dingy, the machines in the gym are mostly old and outdated. The place is desperate for a facelift in all areas including staff, some are great but a large proportion are unhelpful, under trained & downright rude. Far better leisure facilities in the area for a lot less money. I don't mind paying a premium for a premium product.....this is not.
Hi Dai, sorry to read you haven't enjoyed your club visits. We appreciate all feedback both negative and positive and we have noted your concerns. With regards, the Bridgend Fitness and Wellbeing Team
Fantastic experience: Great atmosphere
Thanks for the lovely feedback and rating, it is very much appreciated. Best wishes, the Bridgend Fitness & Wellbeing Team
Positive experience: It’s got the potential to be brilliant but as others have mentioned, it is desperate for a ‘face lift’. The coffee bar area is like a train station waiting room, the gym equipment is really old. The fitness studios have strangely been half painted! The changing rooms need a refurbishment and the showers need the same, they are a bit grotty. You can see the cleaning staff try their best but everything looks very tired. As many have mentioned the staff are very nice. For the price you pay, you really do expect better.
Hi Eleanor, thanks for this feedback. Additional work will be taking place on the gym floor shortly and we hope you enjoy the upcoming changes. Best wishes, the Bridgend Fitness and Wellbeing Team
Negative experience: following a period of temporary closure, they made the difficult decision to permanently close spa pool!! What about our membership fees 5 facilitie for £50 membership amount and now only 4 facilitie so membership must to be£40 . Ignore in all means . Very dirty and out of date . Just quick update, after 1 years being away I rejoined and still steam room drainage after refurbishment isn't changed and sewerage gas getting to steam room and people do deap breath . It's needs P trap under drain for sewerage gases and smells do not come back up also isn't healthy.
Hi John, apologies for any impact the recent permanent spa pool closure has had on your visits. We would like to reassure you that any savings made from this decision will be reinvested in the club’s operational costs and our community programmes. With regards, the Bridgend Fitness and Wellbeing Team
Negative experience: Avoid At All costs Please do not bother signing up unless you are paying £10 or less. It is not worth any more. Lovely staff but everything else about the place is woeful. This week there was poo in the showers, no shower gel in any containers. I raised both issues at reception and they just said they were waiting for a delivery. I'm sorry but Tesco and B&M is 2 minutes down the road. Go and buy some. Absolute disgraceful answer for a £50 pm establishment. Lockers are broken, equipment is beyond dated, at time of writing 9 machines out of order in gym, they can't keep on top of cleaning and replacing stock in places such as drinks dispenser. As other members stated too they currently charge full price but have a number of services unavailable such as jacuzzi. Considering January is a peak month for sign up you would think they would get their ducks in order. Nope Please do not waste your money at this low quality, low investment club.
Negative experience: Really poor facilities for the premium price. Old and frequently closed equipment, limited free weight training considering the size of membership and the spa facilities have been significantly diminished by the closure of the spa pool. Disappointing!
Hi Chris, thanks for this feedback and our apologies for the impact the spa pool closure had on your club visits. We're working hard with our servicers to improve equipment availability and we'll shortly be making some positive changes to the gym floor layout. With regards, the Bridgend Fitness and Wellbeing Team
Negative experience: Nice facilities but suffering from woeful underinvestment. As you walk through the door, it all looks lovely. Nice new carpet in the corridor but enter the changing rooms and you'll find broken lockers, showers out of use and a general look of decline. When things break here, they stay broken for a long time. Latest big issue is a nationwide closure of the Nuffield spa pools. I understand the rationale for closure is to save money in the light of increasing energy costs but for Nuffield to state that no reduction in membership fees will be forthcoming is nothing short of contempt and arrogance. This is a loss of facilities for six months after all. This of course coincided with another breakdown of the spa so very convenient timing to avoid paying for repairs! Would I recommend Nuffield? No. Lovely staff working under a regime of poor investment and declining morale. EDITED: Nuffield you took nine months to reply to this. As for "Any savings from the spa pool closure have gone directly towards our increased operational costs. Nuffield Health are a trading charity, so any money made is either reinvested in the club or used to assist with our community programmes. " ....membership fees have increased since then so your running costs are covered but I guess you had to fund the replacement bench in lieu of the jacuzzi. A bench. Really? As for reinvestment, I'd love to see where. Myself and many others have already walked away.
Hi, thanks for this feedback and apologies for the impact the spa pool closure will have had on your visits. Any savings from the spa pool closure have gone directly towards our increased operational costs. Nuffield Health are a trading charity, so any money made is either reinvested in the club or used to assist with our community programmes. With regards, the Bridgend Fitness and Wellbeing Team
Negative experience: Think carefully about joining. Fees are not cheap, pool out of action several times this year as well as other equipment. Just notified the spa will be out of action for the autumn to save energy obviously to cut their costs but are not reducing fees, absolutely disgusting!!!!!
Hi Melanie, thank you for your feedback and apologies for the impact the spa pool closure will have had on your visits. Any savings made from the spa pool closure have been reinvested to assist the club’s operational costs. Nuffield Health are a trading charity, so any money made is either reinvested in the club or used to assist with our community programmes. With regards, the Bridgend Fitness and Wellbeing Team
Negative experience: Staff are fantastic and always friendly however this Nuffield gym/spa needs refurbishment and money invested into new equipment, changing facilities and services. It seems like Nuffield group are overlooking their health-clubs in Wales after visiting others around the UK.
Hi Jamie, thank you for your feedback and apologies for any element of your visits that you were dissatisfied with. The Bridgend club is very much part of Nuffield Health's long-term plans and we hope we can welcome you back again, in the future. With regards, the Bridgend Fitness and Wellbeing Team
Fantastic experience: Excellent facilities and friendly staff
Dear Ian, thank you for taking the time to provide this lovely review. We're very pleased to read your enjoying your membership. Best regards, The Bridgend Fitness and Wellbeing Team
Negative experience: I absolutely love this gym, when everything is up and running. But for the love of God, it seems as if something is broken or not working every time I go there! The amount of times I've been turned away from the spa area, swimming pool in the last month's is absolutely absurd. The length of time it take for repairs to be finished is also absurd when members are paying a good amount of money each month for the facilities. It also took over a week to fix a water fountain in the spa area. It's coming to the point where members should be heavily compensated as we are not able to use what we are paying for very often. If the equipment, facilities are breaking this regularly, then surely it's time for a refurbishment? It's all the members are talking about. This being the case, the staff are extremely helpful, friendly and apologetic when things often go wrong but it's just far too often.
Dear Ben, Thank you for taking the time to provide this detailed review regarding your member experience. We are very sorry about some of the outages recently experienced, this is very frustrating for our members and we’re continuing reviewing our vendors, to make sure we have the best repair agents available. Our on-site engineer has also recently returned, and we hope that this will have a positive impact on facilities management. Best regards, The Bridgend Fitness and Wellbeing Team
Positive experience: Bit overpriced, but overall ok
Dear Thomasz, Thank you for your review and rating. Your pricing feedback has been shared with the management team. Although we do want to remain competitive with all local clubs, as we operate full spa facilities and a pool (all inclusive in the membership cost) the cost is slightly higher. We’ll continue to review our prices and we hope we can welcome you back, in the future. Best regards, The Bridgend Fitness and Wellbeing Team
Fantastic experience: Fantastic gym, friendly staff and great changing rooms!
Dear Scarlett, Thank you very much for taking the time to provide this lovely review, it’s very much appreciated . Best regards, The Bridgend Fitness and Wellbeing Team
Fantastic experience: Great gym ,great facilities very clean and tidy place to go,
Dear David, thank you for taking the time to provide this lovely review. We're very pleased to read your enjoying your visits to our club. Best regards, The Bridgend Fitness and Wellbeing Team
Negative experience: For £50+ a month you would expect a gym to have more than one squat rack and one bench press... do not join this place if you have any respect for your health/fitness or your bank balance: there are a million other gyms around that offer better equipment and better customer service for a lot less. Absolutely shocking place.
Dear Tim, Thank you for your review and rating. We are sorry you did not enjoy your visits; we do have a wide range of members and therefore the gym floor spec reflects this. In any future updates however, we do hope to expand our resistance and weights training areas. Best regards, The Bridgend Fitness and Wellbeing Team
Negative experience: What a poor start to my Nuffield membership. I am so disappointed!!! I agreed to a 12 month contract last week to commence on Friday 21st. Having Parkinson's, the most suitable class will be the Aqua classes. I was booked into the class on Friday 21st. and told to go online or telephone to book my next class on Tuesday 25th. at 7am on Monday 17th. I set my alarm for 6.45 am so I could get online early in order to book. I couldn't believe it when at exactly 7am the Nuffield app crashed! I tried phoning, but was told they could do nothing, as their computers had crashed. When the computers went back on line a few minutes later. All the places had been filled!
Dear Anne, Thank for your feedback and apologies for these initial issues experienced. In light of member feedback, we have now upgraded our booking platforms, we do hope that the new platform is providing a superior member experience. Best regards, The Bridgend Fitness and Wellbeing Team
Negative experience: Good gym if you’re after classes, swimming pool, steam room, sauna etc. Free weights section is OK. It has what you need but it’s lacking a lot of equipment and more squat stations. I’d recommend thinking about signing up to a long term contract with them as it is a “luxury” gym, so you pay a premium subscription to be with them. I wanted to leave as because of COVID 19. Half of the facilities are closed and the only reason I joined the gym was to have access to the Sauna, jacuzzi, steam room and other facilities but these are all closed which I understand why. However, I am tied into my membership and there was no option offered to me to reduce my subscription fees as I am paying for facilities I cannot use. It just comes across as money grabbing and there is nothing in place to apart from to freeze my membership. I want to use the gym as I use the gym regularly, it just seems silly that I have to pay the full price during covid when only a part of the gym is open for me to use. The only reason I joined this gym was to use the full facilities as normally I would just train at your typical gym which does not have a pool, sauna, steam room, jacuzzi etc but as I can’t use them and I have to pay the full price, I will be leaving ASAP. Customer does not come first in this instance as all they care about is your subscription coming in, not what service you’re experiencing.
Fantastic experience: Best massage in South Wales. Fact.
Positive experience: Cordial staff. Good range of equipment. Need a few notices 'encouraging' members not to hang around on machines & socialise or make calls while others are waiting for those machines / equipment.
Negative experience: Not a bad gym , nice facilities , membership is a bit overpriced as the pool only has a few lanes and the gym equipment is pretty old ! Having a personal trainer there is a waste of money and time most of them would rather chat to rachet than observe your training.
Fantastic experience: Has good facilities
Fantastic experience: Great facility and helpful friendly staff
Positive experience: Lovely gym. Would be 5 stars but more weekend classes need to be made available for people like me who shift work even on a Sunday. One zumba class on a Saturday is just not enough!
Fantastic experience: Excellent gym equipped with everything you need, lovely atmosphere.
Fantastic experience: Very polite and friendly staff highly recommend. The best gym in my opinion in south Wales
Fantastic experience: Great facilities
Fantastic experience: Clean and friendly
Negative experience: Gone really downhill since Covid. Miserable horrible gym and pool staff who have no interest in the needs of clients, only care about going home and indulging in their mediocre lives. Closing the Jacuuzi, then expecting the same Member Fee is an insult to customer loyalty. Only a matter of time before this place closes down sadly, as their ethos is not right in my view. A shame given it's potential.
Hi CoCo, thanks for this feedback and sorry to read you haven't enjoyed your club visits. Certainly, no plans to close down and if you have any concerns, please do not hesitate to speak to a duty manager, on your next visit. With regards, the Bridgend Fitness and Wellbeing Team
Fantastic experience: Great facility. Only downside is the 6.15 opening time. 6 would be better and 7 instead of 8 at weekends
Fantastic experience: Zumba is great xx
Fantastic experience: It’s pricy and I wish they offered more in terms of better deals for some people, but I guess you get what you pay for. It’s a surprisingly very friendly gym. Staff are very helpful and friendly also.
Fantastic experience: Staff are really friendly and the atmosphere is really good. Highly recommended.
Fantastic experience: Love this place. Plenty of equipment to choose from in the gym. Great classes to attend as an alternative. End the visit with a swim and relax in the wellbeing area. Even got a cafe to end you stay
Fantastic experience: Well kept friendly
Positive experience: Ok.. Need an old pound coin to use small lockers and your own padlock to use the big ones... gym was ok too
Fantastic experience: Exvellent facilities
Positive experience: Great Gym facilities ... spa area is lovely. especially the hydro pool after a tough class or work out. friendly and helpful staff. Always willing to offer advice. A nice cafe and place to get food. Always clean and tidy. plenty of parking. could do with more adult swim time. And a better selection of classes rather than following the trendy classes. classics have gone in replacement of Joe wicks wannabes which can be quite frustrating
Fantastic experience: The staff are fab..the pool is relaxing..the gym is well laid out with plenty of free weights and exercise machines.
Positive experience: Smart gym with lovely sauna, steam room & jacuzzi. Great pool and cafe as well as loads of classes. Not the cheapest of gyms but you get what you pay for. It feels exclusive and there are a number of packages to choose from. Recommended
