Our comment from FitFit UK about Winchester Sport & Leisure Park:
Winchester Sport & Leisure Park is a premier destination for sports and recreation, offering state-of-the-art facilities that cater to a variety of interests. Visitors have highlighted its spacious swimming pool, praised as one of the best in Hampshire, and its vast, modern gym completed in 2021 that boasts a full range of exercise equipment. The centre is particularly well-regarded for its friendly and helpful staff, with trainers like Tom Donaldson and Tim Norris receiving specific accolades for their personalized approach to fitness training.
While the park excels in many areas, some users have voiced concerns about cleanliness in the changing rooms and showers, indicating that these areas are not always up to the expected standards. Additionally, parking has been frequently cited as a consistent issue, especially during busy hours, making visits somewhat stressful for families with young children. Furthermore, the booking system has faced criticism for being less user-friendly, often requiring advance planning to secure a spot for swimming or classes.
Despite these challenges, the overall experience at Winchester Sport & Leisure Park remains positive, highlighted by excellent recreational services and a welcoming environment that makes it a great choice for individuals and families alike.
Services, Machines and Guided Classes
Winchester Sport & Leisure Park: Opinions
Fantastic experience: Aaron Croft was very friendly and took the time to show me (a nervous gym-goer), how to use the gym equipment and what routines I should follow
Negative experience: Parking is consistently terrible!
Fantastic experience: One of the best swimming pools in Hampshire nice, clean and all facilities are working.
Fantastic experience: Excellent climbing walls. Not too busy. Great fun for my 7 year old!
Negative experience: Amazing modern building, completed in 2021 it has “everything”, swimming pools, a spa, huge gym. But no sauna or steam room??? Honestly, What were they thinking??
Fantastic experience: I’ve been taking private training sessions with Tim Norris and would recommend him as a PT — he has a holistic and individual approach to the fitness and wellness, very attentive to a trainee’s needs and brings a wealth of knowledge and experience.
Positive experience: Usually a good programme but over the holidays & on bank holidays the swim fitness, lane swimming opportunities are drastically reduced or non existent This is really poor for lane swimmers & I really think the centre could & should do better
Fantastic experience: The Gym is the best in group easily, the management & team are excellent.
Negative experience: The showers and changing rooms for the swimming pool are really grotty! Build up of dust on top of the changing room cubicles and all drains blocked in the female showers due to hair. Slimey shower cubicle walls etc. it used to be much cleaner it seems they have given up.
Negative experience: I've been a member at Winchester Sports and leisure park for 4 months and the Customer Service at the place has just become a nightmare. There's £4 no show attached to every missed fitness class on top of paying £50 as a platinum member. There's a 4 hr window to cancel which means before the crack of dawn for 6.30am classes. I stopped booking in those classes for fear of ending up with a large late cancel fees. That was the end of my weekday workout sessions. Weekend parking is a nightmare and i have had to cancel and go back home because i couldnt find a parking spot for 20mins for a 9.30am Group session on Saturday. I have been fined for parking when I've already registered on the device which I am now contesting. I am now also being fined for not Scanning my membership card because the Receptionist has said "don't worry I'll mark you in" and opened the gate for us. Money making scam. Very very disappointing. Please save yourself some peace of mind and money by not being a part of this.
Positive experience: Great pool, parking not great though
Negative experience: I haven't visited yet. The website doesn't provide a swim timetable or price. It only provides membership pricing for a monthly or annual membership for £50 plus per month or £500+ per annum. Do they not allow you to go for an occasional swim?
Fantastic experience: Saw the resident physio for foot injury. The service and fascility was excellent
Negative experience: Unfortunately the leisure centre is not being looked after, the changing rooms and showers in the swimming pool are absolutely disgusting. You regularly hear other people commenting on how unclean it is. This is not just from one morning or a few hours, there is build up of grime, hair and filth. Attempting too book the classes can be a challenge in itself, it seems if you pay a premium you can book earlier in advance in comparison to those on a standard membership, this means that most of the classes will be fully booked and you have to wait and hope you might be lucky enough to get a space, not really acceptable for a community leisure centre, private and more luxurious ones you understand are like this. I have emailed the leisure centre directly about several issues, never had a response, that pretty much says enough about the fact that their ethos is on a quantity over quality.
Fantastic experience: Great facilities, clean & friendly staff
Fantastic experience: Wow such a beautiful, friendly place to go. Fabulous gym, classes for everyone. The 50 meter pool is amazing!!! Big credit to all the lovely hard working staff that make it special for us all every time!!! nothing is to much. Thank you ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Fantastic experience: Had a most enjoyable day at the club with my free pass last Monday ..... very impressed with all the facilities available ... the staff were very friendly and professional .... did not hesitate to become a member !
Negative experience: contacting hydrotherapy to book a slot is ni on impossible. Once you are in it is good.
Fantastic experience: Great facilities. The 50m pool is the one I use the most, but the climbing walls, squash courts and gym are also very good. Changing rooms, showers, etc are always clean and tidy and the other outdoor facilities around the back of the building are great. The only downside is the parking can get very busy, especially when there are lots of kids clubs on.
Fantastic experience: Plenty of disabled parking spaces. Free parking for 3 hours. Pleasant staff. Café near the entrance. Good coffee. 10.00am on a Tuesday and looks busy. A positive introduction to the centre. I think my mother will be well looked after. We'll be back.️️️
Fantastic experience: Great swimming pool with excellent facilities.very impressed with our first visit.will certainly be returning
Positive experience: OH MY GOD. This is a nice pool, i did a swim comp here, its a lovely place but there is an overpriced cafe and its just too hot in there, but would reccomend. 3 stars
Negative experience: This place is awful. This place isn’t suitable for ages 11-12.You can’t use many machines, weights limited, and overall staff are just rude especially stay away from gill.
Negative experience: It's such a palaver to book to swim, time, fast, slow lane etc. I wish you could just turn up to swim when you felt like it as swimming pools used to be. How do you know you're going to feel like swimming at 7 p.m. if you make that booking? Perhaps you wake up and fancy an early morning swim, but no, you've got to know how you're feeling days in advance.
Negative experience: Come on guys get your lift fixed!!! looking forward to getting back in the gym
Negative experience: Completely inflexible timings for swimming access for babies. Little to no information available on the website
Fantastic experience: Google reviews are so funny - I LOVE IT! I HATE IT! etc. Personally, I just went to the leisure park and spoke to a really nice guy called Kanya who wasn't stressed, wasn't disinterested and spent a long time with me, showing me around and didn't pressure me into any programs. The gym is the best gym I've ever seen. Huge and new with a good mix of all sorts of people. A real bonus for the area.
Negative experience: This place is a joke. It's absolutely dead here, and I can see exactly why - run by kids who literally couldn't care less about customer satisfaction. It's geniunely difficult to try and spend your money here... "Swimming session fully booked" = literally not a sole in the pool (no exaggeration, genuinely not one person). Machines switched off at the cafe so you can't order a drink whilst you are forced to sit in the cafe area whilst your kid has a lesson (no viewing gallery for small pool). astonishingly bad. What a shame...
Negative experience: The management is a nightmare and probably doesn’t deserve any stars. As a company wide policy, they don’t do offer any alternative or refund if the classes are no longer available, so a bad management on classes etc really hurts. Facilities used to be good, but with poor cleaning and management. It’s going downhill. I hope the site can be taken over by another manager so people live in Winchester can have a local gym with good service.
Positive experience: Can totally recommend a cycling class by Gill, it was very motivating. But only 4 stars as the virtua RPMl class was disappointing.
Positive experience: Comprehensive gym, but clearly short staffed. It’s slowly going down-hill already after only being open a short time. The booking system is flawed, the front desk staff don’t seem to care at all, the toddler swim play area has been closed down now for about 6 months, the swimming pool changing area isn’t clean enough, the gym equipment is breaking down and left for weeks without repair, there are often unsupervised minors using the weights. Someone is going to get hurt.
Positive experience: Be aware the splash zone attached to the learner pool is not currently operating and I have been told expected date for repair is April. I used to travel further for a swim as my children love this bit, however I will go to a pool closer to home until this is fixed. The learner pool has always been warm enough for young ones and it is a large pool, it is also always clean in the changing areas.
Fantastic experience: Winchester Sport & Leisure Park is a standout destination, boasting top-notch facilities that cater to diverse interests. The well-maintained sports amenities, from the spacious swimming pool to state-of-the-art gym equipment, make it an ideal spot for fitness enthusiasts. The staff's friendly and helpful demeanor enhances the overall experience, creating a welcoming atmosphere. Additionally, the range of recreational services, such as group classes and wellness programming, adds a holistic touch. Cleanliness and organisation contribute to a positive environment, making Winchester Sport & Leisure Park a great choice for individuals and families alike.
Negative experience: Cafe in Leisure Centre is overpriced and drinks were disgusting, I asked for having it in and man served in takeaway cups, it was luke warm too.
Positive experience: Really lovely brand new leisure park, huge gym and an Olympic size swimming pool. Pleasant staff on reception, rarely a wait to speak to someone. Very big car park which is often very busy, reasonable rates at the car park. There is also a large changing area and squash hall- lots on offer. I haven’t used any of my membership for the classes but I can say the gym is a great place to go
Fantastic experience: Best swimming complex for families. 25 metre pool depth set to 117cm. Can sometimes have dedicated 3 lanes for lessons. Prebooking is essential and limited numbers means shouldn't be over crowded. Lovely clean changing rooms with heated floor Good powerful hot showers. If driving there, don't forget to register your vehicle reg for 2 hours free parking.
Negative experience: Amazing facility, terrible management. Classes regularly cancelled (once 40 people are there waiting), with no warning, appalling and passive aggressive fitness manager, poor app that rarely works, often charged for being absent from classes, even when buzzing in on arrival and physically ticking a class list. Very cheap but extremely inactive and poorly taught beginners swimming lessons. No systems in place for resolving ongoing and repetitive problems, no trouble shooting processes, extremely poor conflict resolution. Memberships are super cheap but you get why you pay for- you’ll often leave Everyone active less relaxed than you enter. This could be such an incredible resource for winchester residents and the facilities themselves are amazing. Helen who runs the u5 classes is superb and such a kind and proactive member of staff. That’s where the good staffing starts and ends. Cafe is overpriced (even with membership card) and always filthy (floors and tables). Oh, and there’s no parent and child parking in the entire car park to safely get two children out of a car. Car park owned by the council but in two years management have done nothing to resolve the problem. “Everyone active” unless you’re pregnant and can’t access your car, or have a child in a carry seat and can’t get them out, or book onto a class that inevitably won’t run!
Positive experience: Definitely the nicest fitness facility in Winchester. Come here 3-4x/wk and very much appreciate it. Nice staff. Operational issues: 1. Hygiene problems with the bathrooms have been ongoing for a year+ (6 months no showers or toilets/sewage backup, 3 months now no soap anywhere) 2. Beautiful pool but no option to swim laps after work
Negative experience: Dirty, run by teenagers and limited parking. What an absolute disaster. The changing rooms, toilets and shower facilities are disgustingly dirty, blocked toilets and dirty windows poolside, constant gala’s disrupting swimming lessons and means the main pool is closed. This place is an absolute joke. Such a shame to see the lack of care from the staff.
Negative experience: The place is run by young, care free staff who don’t consider customer service a priority. The cafe is never open and prices are extortionate. The changing rooms are very unsanitary with food, mud and hair everywhere. The lifeguards sometimes aren’t even present and the gates are always open so anyone can walk in for a swim without paying! The place is a shambles! Furthermore, I went to the fareham everyone active and again, found the entire place unsanitary filled with young staff who couldn’t give a monkeys! Problem is there aren’t many other centres around so we’re forced to stick.
Negative experience: absolutely non-working app and rubbish customer IT support. After registration had problems with booking sessions and discovered it's a very common problem. IT support has been silent for 2 weeks (!!). People, I WANT TO PAY YOU MONEY! Can you move botom part of your body and fix the bags in your app finally?? Receptionists are kind and very helpful, but I CAN'T USE THE FACILITIES BECAUSE OF RUBBISH APP
Fantastic experience: Very friendly and helpful track team. Nice facility.
Positive experience: Lovely pool but the advance booking process is tortuous via their website. Difficult to find the booking and so slow that I thought the blank page had frozen when I did get to the right place. App may be better but haven't tried it.
Fantastic experience: The nice and wild surroundings combined with the modern well-built building make this a real pleasure to come to. I hope they maintain it well and continue to manage the premises to a high standard to keep this the great facility that it is.
Fantastic experience: we arrived very late to our climbing session, the instructors were unable to come out of the climbing room due to ratios but suggested contacting reception to see if anyone else could come and do our briefing. Someone was with us within minutes and we were able to join in. Everyone was very helpful and the girls running the session were very good with my children
Fantastic experience: For anyone who has mobility problems, then I would definitely recommend getting in contact with the hydrotherapy team at Winchester sports centre. I support an individual every week, and their mobility has improved in leaps and bounds over the 4 months we have been coming. Highly recommended. The team are so supportive, engage really well with all the people who attend the session, make it very fun for all who attend. Can be expensive for a few sessions but definitely worth it if you can afford it. The only downfall I can say about the hole experience is that the café there do not accept cash only card. The people I support do not have cards, only cash, so this really let me down
Positive experience: 25m Lane swim, booked in advance online. The app. Is not quite as intuitive as I would like, but once there everything ran smoothly. The changing rooms were very clean and with roughly 4 people to a lane, the swimming was pretty good.
Fantastic experience: Fantastic Gym facilities with great staff. I heard down the grape vine the PT Andy is amazing and great with all abilities and ages!
Negative experience: They charge £7.40 for parent and baby swim. This is very expensive for a 7 month old baby who can only be in the water for 30 mins or so and has to be held the whole time.
Fantastic experience: 5/5 stars for the customer service today at reception. I managed to speak to a lovely lady named Sheila, who answered the phone so welcomingly. She was quick to answer and ended up having a lovely chat! From now on, I will always go to Sheila for any help or queries :)
Fantastic experience: Lovely big sports facility. Good swimming pool. All amenities are there. Nice and clean all around. So I joined up today!
Fantastic experience: I would just like to thank the wonderful and friendly staff and Winchester sports and leasure center. Me and my family won the hamper at Christmas time, and we'd like to take the time to thank each and every one of you at the center for your continued support and kindness to us throughout. This hamper and been a fantastic opportunity for me, I've joined 4 fitness classes a week, and they have given more confidence then I'd ever thought I'd have! A huge thank you goes to BECS for aqua aerobics, STUART for bodystep and HELEN for Zumba. I've been apart of these fitness classes since the middle of January, and each one of these classes have given me more stength, power, energy and most of all alot more confidence. I will be getting a membership when this ends in July so I will be able to continue with these classes!! I've thourally enjoyed each one of these classes and looked forwards to them each week! Each instructor has given out endless care and support for all people involved!!They are amazing. SO A MASSIVE THANK YOU FOR STUART (BODYSTEP) HELEN (ZUMBA) AND BECS (AQUA AEROBICS) AND OF COURSE ALL THE STAFF AND THE LEASURE CENTER!!!
Negative experience: Nice facilities indeed but unreliable: overcrowded and understaffed, parts of the pool are closed, never seen the toddler play area running over the pass 6 months, the worm pool for kids is operational 50% of the time, absent management
Positive experience: Its a good place, better than the old one though it doesn't have children's play area like the old one. But overall its great. The gym and rock climbing are brilliant for all ages. Car park is free. 4/5
Negative experience: Experience ruined by stress of trying to park with toddler and baby. Please create spaces for those who would have difficulty using the overflow. Active ants is great and we enjoy the pool but put off coming due to parking and no suitable public transport.
Fantastic experience: Great place love it nice swimming pool I enjoy seeing the smiley faces of reception staff every time I go swimming. The staff are amazing
Negative experience: Apalling website, very complex. Tried to find family swimming session and almost impossible. Eventually got through on phone. On a bank holiday few family sessions. Seems to encourage lane swimming rather than social swimming and encouraging children to swim.
Negative experience: Membership team are absolutely useless and the customer service is diabolical. Staff seem to think that their policy trumps the Consumer Rights Act and they can treat people how they wish. Shocking experience and certainly won't be visiting every again.
Positive experience: Fantastic centre, massive gym and pool. Only two main issues. 1. There is a lack of free weights in the gym meaning that there's a bit of a fight to load up with the ones you need. 2. The whole pool is 50m long; however, they only open the full length twice a day Mensing most of the time you only get to use half of it. I feel like these are relatively inexpensive things to fix and I think once they are it'll be worthy of 5 stars.
Fantastic experience: Visited this centre a few times lately for swimming galas. Although I have not personally used the pool myself, due to volunteer work I was able to walk on pool side. The centre is impressive looking with plenty of parking at the front. £8 all day. The reception is large and clean with a large cafe. The pool is a 50m pool although I think they have the boom divider up at times. Very high tech life guard stations. Spectator seating available although limited for the size. Changing facilities where very large and kept extremely clean by the staff. Toilets where all clean. The centre also has a splash pool, sports hall and rock climbing from what I can see but can’t comment on those facilities. Overall a very impressive venue
Negative experience: Not enough parking and Not child friendly! No parent & child spaces, no buggy park, no crèche, no soft play, no party rooms, cold swimming pool, only 1 session per day of ‘general swim’ in the learner pool, no poolside viewing area for swimming lessons, no play park outside, unfriendly booking system, no dedicated sports activities for primary age children. This centre needs a re-think!!
Fantastic experience: Extremely good centre, water quality and facilities were all excellent
Negative experience: Twice in 3 days no instructor in the Virtual Bike sessions. One class abandoned the other started 15 mins late after trying to find someone to operate system. Mens showers drains are blocked; tiled walls dirty and greasy, mould growing on cubicles. Place needs a manager!
Negative experience: Absolutely dreadful swimming lessons on a Saturday. Do not take your child to them. Never had the same teacher and very little progress made. Awful communication. So many times not told it’s cancelled.
We wanted to recognise the comparative turbulence of our swimming lessons on Saturdays over the last few months. This has been due to several unfortunate and some unforeseeable circumstances, which we have proactively looked to address and rectify. With this in mind, you should have hopefully recently received communications regarding our free activities over the Christmas break on offer to all our Saturday swim lesson customers. Meanwhile, we have also proactively looked to address our teacher consistency with two new permanent teachers in place from early mid-January. We have also worked closely with our local clubs and Swim England to change the times of a number of galas and events, which will reduce disruption and we have put measures in place to allow lessons to continue on these event days. We always look to provide suitable notice in the event of lessons being cancelled and we will look into improving this further in line with our other ongoing plans for improvement of our lessons. You may also be interested to know that we have launched a special offer today that allows all existing swim lesson customers to book onto our Crash Courses next week for free!
Negative experience: Has potential to be a brilliant leisure centre, unfortunately lots of things currently letting it down. Not enough parking for all facilities so ended up having to go to park & ride with a 2 year old and missed half of our timeslot. Splash zone closed and ripped out for at least second time in a year. Water is very cold in all pools and booking system is not user friendly. Haven't used the gym but have heard that this is excellent.
Negative experience: Very good facilities, but very bad customer service. If you wish to have the holiday break, sorry, they do not allow you to pause or postpone the membership, you will have to cancel your membership and register it again when you come back. Even if you wish to cancel your membership if you have a good chance to buy a close holiday, they advise that the membership is charged one month in advance, which means all membership will automatically renew up to 59 days. I suppose the management team never had a holiday or any break, nor do they expect other people to have a holiday or the break. You can see a pretty website, pretty facilities, but arrogant terms and conditions. If you are not rich or happy with this kind of attitude, I strongly suggest avoiding EVERYONE ACTIVE if possible.
Negative experience: Got pressured into buying a membership. Very hard to say no. After trying to cancel my membership, the woman said she was sorry and that they had let that person go. I thought everything was resolved and I no longer had to deal with this gym. 2 months on, I have emails saying they are upgrading my account and after looking into it i've paid £80 to them?! DO NOT EVEN GO INTO THIS GYM, rob you of your money and customer support is terrible with automatic replies and online forums to ask any questions. Terrible experience with no regard for the cost of living crisis and as a student cannot afford to be paying for things im not using and thought was cancelled!
Negative experience: The customer service at this leisure centre so shockingly poor, as are the swimming lessons they provide. A different teacher is every week is normal, no progress, oversized classes and massively mixed abilities in the class. Try Wessex or Penguins, avoid Winchester sport and leisure park, avoid avoid avoid
Positive experience: Large, Clean, very well equipped Gym. One of the best I've been to and a pleasure to use Badly needs spa facilities though, not sure why they weren't included. Car park often full at peak times.
Positive experience: Play badminton here often, don't normally get the court you've booked but that doesn't matter, as long as I get a court it's all good! All clean and looks fresh. Lighting could be improved as you can lose the shuttlecock in the bright strip lights which is sometimes annoying but generally I like playing here.
Fantastic experience: Newly opened sports center, lots of sports both indoor and outdoor catered. Lots of parking.
Positive experience: We didn't know this place even existed! It looks very new... We went there today to attend an antiques fair and both commented on how nice it is. We only went to the main 'hall' but saw there are lots of different activities for 'sporty' types. It had a very big car park as well. We were impressed!
Negative experience: Absolutely appalling front house managers , terrible when needing to cancel membership when I’m giving well over a months notice . Still charged for a month I am not going to use . Argument is “ you signed online and would have had plenty of links to our terms and conditions “ which is true , but I never had any paper work to go over not even a welcome email . Has tried to speak to someone weeks in advance about cancelling memebershio and PT sessions I had booked , treated awfully by a woman in memberships desk who after speaking to me rudely said she couldn’t do anything and that I needed to talk to as manager … who wouldn’t be available until the weekend ! Awful awful place , facilities are brilliant ( just for look closet to the apparatus , they are filthy with dust and I’m not sure how often cleaned - thank god covid not so much a problem now !)
Negative experience: Trying to book a session just to go for a swim is very difficult...seem to need to plan 2-3 days in advance; for a new facility with 3 pools I wouldn't have thought it was that hard. App not great either; trying to add a 2nd person to a booking presents issues at the payment screen. Need to be very determined to go for a swim in order to actually get there, as there's many obstacles.
Fantastic experience: Myself and my partner have been using the gym for Personal Training sessions with Tom Donaldson for the last 6 months. Tom has been brilliant, he is able to tailor each session specifically for us both according to our different strengths and any injuries we have had. I had never lifted weights before & I am now the strongest I have ever been since I injured my shoulder 2 years ago. Tom knows exactly what to do for each muscle group in order to balance each session including the cool down and stretches. We would definitely recommend Tom to anyone who wants to build their strength, is unsure about what they should be doing in the gym and to anyone who wants to refresh their training sessions.
Fantastic experience: I have been a member of this gym from opening day and it’s definitely the best gym I have been a member of , I’ve had the pleasure of working with one of the gyms PTs; Tom Donaldson for the past year and it has been one of the best decisions I have ever made, Tom has shared so much knowledge with me and given me way more confidence in the gym than I could of ever imagined when I started out , not to mention helped me loose almost 2 stone while still enjoying my current life style !! - I would 100% recommend
Negative experience: Wasted half an hour trying to sign up for online membership (for a casual swim) with almost no help from reception who seemed too busy chatting to provide any real support. Looks like a great facility but customer service and online registration process is poor at best - not a happy experience
Fantastic experience: The service and facilities at this brand new centre are absolutely amazing. Frequently use the gym, pool, cafe, and climbing walls. I used a Personal Trainer at the gym - Tom Donaldson - to help me get back into a routine, with a clear plan. Tom was brilliant. Very calm, listened to me, encouraging, and gave clear instructions. I've got an old back problem, so needed someone who would take care of me! I had 3 sessions - after each session he sent me a written plan which I was then able to follow on each visit. He was always happy to answer any questions I had later when I was in the gym and wanted to check on correct form.
Fantastic experience: Amazing venue for everyone, plenty of activities to chose from with lovely staff.
Positive experience: It's a fabulous leisure centre but £27 a month for OAP swimming seems a lot. Costs me about £7 a year in London.
Negative experience: The Winchester centre is excellent in many ways but the Everyone Active management arrangements are deeply flawed. I have just realised that I have been charged for three months membership while only enjoying two months membership. Moreover when I enrolled online no mention was made of the concessionary rates for seniors. When I queried this I was promised that that an adjustment would be made but no adjustment has taken place
Fantastic experience: very clean all round with great learner pool and splash play area perfect for young children will be going back
Fantastic experience: This place is fantastic. I know I leave a lot of 5 star reviews but boy heck this place earned it. Lots of parking - free for 3 hours if you enter your reg at reception (got a little screen). It's clean, spacious and light. Very welcoming and warm. The swimming pool is fab! Loads of lockers, showers, toilets, cubicles, hairdryers etc. The lockers need a pound coin (or trolley token) which you get back. The children pool has a water splash park right next to it. I was there with 3 children and I think I enjoyed it more than them!! Finally, the café does loads of gluten free options, the food and drinks (particularly the smoothies) are delicious and the staff are super friendly. 6 stars!
Negative experience: I arrived at the pool to find the the session I had booked had been cancelled. The receptionist was very sorry and said that she was just about to call me! Still, fair enough."Ill have a refund" I said. " I'm sorry sir we don't give refunds" said the front of house manager. " "It says so in the Ts and Cs" she said. " Show me" I said. She eventually shows me that in actual fact I was entitled to a refund as I had spent more than £10. " I'm sorry sir we can't give you a refund, you need to apply to head office!!!!! Needless to say we won't be back.
Fantastic experience: Brand new facility with plenty of options to choose from. Parking is free for 3 hours if visiting the sports centre for any paid activities. It's near to city centre.
Fantastic experience: Lovely new leisure centre facilities. Clean and easy to use.
Fantastic experience: Amazing facility great healthy cafe east parking
Positive experience: Great, clean facilities. Only 4 stars as getting through on the phone very hard and website not easy to navigate
Negative experience: The centre itself is fine but the website is appalling - faffy, difficult to use even for simple things like finding the swimming timetable, and it's impossible to cancel sessions which probably amounts for the fact that the pool can be "fully booked" despite the fact that there are only three families in there. The staff are also not particularly friendly and information given by them verbally doesn't match what is on the website, which is not helpful.
Negative experience: A really nice and well equipped leisure centre, but a shame that it is run down by the current management. Child swimming lessons are a chaos and rude staff (Elizabeth Murphy) is sending parents away who are waiting for their child to join or end the swimming class or who are on standby for their 3 year olds. The nice splash zone is purposely closed during swim lessons, to avoid "distraction" of the swim teachers and not available for children the short time before and after a swimming class. Staff at reception does not have any knowledge to deal with problems and only refers to the website. Good and well run alternatives seem to be the pool in Eastleigh and Romsey Rapids. Update June 2022: staff problems continue with frequent cancellations of swimming classes, changing swimming teachers almost every week or closed pools due to staff shortage. A mess!
Positive experience: A brilliant facility. I've only used the pool area 3 or so times but it was mostly a pleasure. The only criticism i have, and one that may stop me returning if it continues, was that the air temperature pool side was absolutely freezing. To the point that nobody was using the kids splash area as it meant you were out of the water. The water itself was warm but we were all shivering to and from the locker room, including our 10 month old son. Twice we have experienced this. Sort that our and the enjoyment level would increase significantly.
Negative experience: The actual leisure centre is fantastic, however, they seem to have a real staff shortage. I play football at the leisure centre once a week and we are always waiting for staff to set up the goals before we can play and this is pretty much every week for the last year. My daughter used to have swimming lessons here however the swimming instructors were different every week and the actual lessons were awful. With a different instructor each week there was no way of monitoring progress or being able to move individuals up or down the group depending on ability. In the 30 minute lesson my daughter swam on average between 6-15 minutes, the rest of the time just waiting by the side. I tried to speak to the head of the swimming instructors on numerous occasions however she never phoned me back although I left countless emails and messages at reception for her to phone me back. Finally during the week there seems to be very limited times in which the small Pool is available for general public, this means I have had to take my youngest into the big pool which is far too cold for him, The only time the small Paul seems free is during the day which doesn’t suit most people that work and would prefer one evening join the week.
Positive experience: Great facilities, lovely and clean with good sized parking spaces but the way the company only really work through the app it isn't great for people that don't have a smart phone. If the booking process could be done better in person it would have been 5 stars.
Fantastic experience: This is a great new swimming complex just opened last year.Very helpful staff and all friendly.I use the Hydro pool which is amazing.
Fantastic experience: Simply superb facilities. Modern and spacious with a stunning gym. Caters for all sporting needs.
Positive experience: Good new leisure centre but no creche facilities which is disappointing when other centres of same brand have them
Negative experience: Nice facilities but it's impossible to book many activities unless you pay £40 or £50 for a monthly membership. This puts things like table tennis out of the reach of those who are not gym members
Positive experience: Very nice clean new pool and sports centre. Four stars only due to my limited visits and where at those times parts of the sports centre had not been finished (as this is a very new centre). The pool and locker/changing areas are all clean, fresh, modern and spacious. The car park is a tidy and large area with plenty of good sized parking spaces, being a new complex the outdoor greenery will need times to 'grow in' but this is not a negative, more just an observation. All looks promising. Haven't used the gym or other 'sporty' areas but I believe the gym is available for use. There is a refreshments cafe with a seating area and plenty of extra seating just outside the main doors which overlooks the car park. I would say the Winchester sports & leisure centre could possibly deserve a full 5 stars in the near future.
Negative experience: Look else where for your child’s swimming lessons. They don’t tell you there’s a gala on and let you arrive with a child fully ready poolside; change the time of your child’s lesson without telling you, leaving you rushing to get to the wrong class; never ring you back even when your questions are escalated to the swimming manager. But on the plus side they will keep taking your money for delivering an unacceptable service! Such a shame as the quality of the lessons is good.
Fantastic experience: Fantastic place for little ones. A nice warm and very large children's pool with a splash pad too with lots of different fountains and water features. My 2.5 year old had a blast. The changing facilities were immaculate and also had very large family changing cubicles too. Very impressed and have booked to go again. My mother in law took my son last week and said the cafe was rubbish and quite expensive but the pool/changing facilities are great.
