Goldenstones Leisure Centre: Opinions
Negative experience: Their pools are way too cold to be in for longer than 20-30 minutes. My 5 year old was freezing after being in there for about 20 minutes.
Fantastic experience: Been a regular since it opened waaaay back in the 90s. It's all good.
Positive experience: Got a decent gym and pool but it's a shame it doesn't look like they are going to fix the sauna so will have to find somewhere else
Negative experience: I am very disappointed, I became a member in the hope of using the sauna, it turned out to be out of order and I was told it will not be operating for the foreseeable future. I will have to look for another gym.
Positive experience: Swimming the water was cold.
Negative experience: It's a shame after the upgrade in the changing rooms they have let it get filthy and mouldy again. Trying to find out information about upgrading my membership and I got brushed off, woman was quite rude and kept giving different answers to the same question regarding how upgrading to the full membership works. We've decided to cancel our membership and go elsewhere. The fact you don't get free parking either when using the facilities is not great either when this is offered at every other gym in yeovil. I'd rather pay more for nicer facilities and staff.
Fantastic experience: It’s good
Positive experience: The range of equipment in the gym is sufficient. It is usually not too busy, so can use the machines as you wish. It's clean and tidy. Good aircon. A few lockers are available in the gym (or you can keep a small bag with you). Trainers and staff are friendly and professional.
Negative experience: me and my friend went swimming today and i personally love the swimming pool. but when we started drowning. yes, actually drowning today because i tried to help her in the deep end and she accidentally dragged me down. i repeatedly held my arm out of the water and waved it for help, no lifeguards helped. i don’t know if they saw but nobody came to the rescue and helped. luckily, we managed to survive. Afterwards i was left shaking and iam still shook up by it. I think the lifeguards need to open their eyes a bit more and notice when someone is in danger.
Hi Ella, We are sorry to hear this about your experience with us this weekend. Could we please ask you to email us at [email protected] as we would like to further investigate this.
Negative experience: Watch the timetable, because they change without warning..... wasted 80p on parking, and wanted to charge full price for a child for 30 minutes swim.....£4.80 for a child swim, ridiculous price .
Fantastic experience: Great pool excellent staff, particularly Stacey she is fantastic.
Positive experience:
Fantastic experience: My daughter is swimming there. Very good and ptofessional teachers. Really good place to book swimming session or go to gym.
Fantastic experience: Very friendly team, clean changing rooms and pool area.
Thank you Sharon!
Positive experience: Clean facilities. I just needed a pool for swimming , no slides and no waves or flumes here.
Positive experience: Leisure centre housing pool, gym and exercise facilities
Fantastic experience: Been with the swim school a little while now. The staff have all been great and swim instructors are fantastic. Great facility and excellent service so far. Thank you very highly recommend to get your little ones swimming. Also enjoy our weekly family swim sessions
Thank you for your 5* review!
Negative experience: Not sure what they were thinking with this refurbishment, somehow they have managed to make the place worse. The areas that actually needed attention have been ignored. New gym equipment is nice though.
Fantastic experience: Now the facilities are upgraded it's a great place to swim. Swim school for my girls is great. All teachers are great with the kids and my girls haven't had a bad lesson. Staff always friendly and helpful.
Thank you for your 5* review David!
Negative experience: Golden stones is the only large pool with a swim school in the area, however the needs of those accessing the pool are not throughly considered, rather deemed secondary to the gym users. With a town heavily saturated with gyms, chains and independent, golden stones should focus on their strength as the only pool in the area. The swim school has rapidly defined over the past 6 months, you can no longer sit and watch your child swim you must stand in the changing room which causes crowding. If you have multiple children attending lessons consecutively they also must stand. Now in their great wisdom Freedom Leisure have imposed a ban on buggies in the changing area, this is a thoughtless choice that will bear a significant financial impact, they will loose swim school participants as parents will no longer be able to access the changing area with small children. For a leisure centre who stated they could not afford to shut the swim school during the renovations, ran a swim school with barely functioning changing rooms ironically continues to demonstrate that it does not care for the patrons who access the pool.
Fantastic experience: The staff at Goldenstones have been so lovely and supportive!! Was chuffed they had a body scanner included in my membership to monitor health goals at the gym. Then the staff helped me make the most of everything by helping me start a personal programme to build my confidence in using the gym and facilities. I went to my first goldenstones group class last week, but have been to only group classes in the past as I wasn’t sure how to use the gym floor. I feel the group classes led by Ant and led by Steph were the most fun. Looking forward to my second classes with them soon!
Thanks for your great review Jordon!
Positive experience: Not been spinning for almost two months. Tried out the new cycling kit tonight and enjoyed the workout.
Thanks for your review Nick! Pleased to hear you enjoyed your workout.
Positive experience: Unisex changing rooms and showers were a bit of a shock. Ive not experienced that before. I felt quite uncomfortable with the location of the showers as there's a lot of people waiting around that areas as its between the pool and entrance to the pool and changing area. I had a man looking at me whilst waiting. I also feel like there's too many changing rooms for how many showers there are and the whole changing area seems to smell of urine.
Negative experience: Very disappointed, often people are walking around swimming pool with dirty shoes, so I guess is staff after having breaks outside building, Is water clean enough, or what is added to the water to make it safely? Swimming lessons sometimes overcrowded 15+ in small swimming pool, kids bump into each other. My daughter stuck on stage 2 for over 7 months, with 90% pass for the last 3 months. How many more times I will have to tell her that system didn't work, there were too many kids your teacher didn't have enough time for you, teacher was on holiday or... This is not building her confidence, this is destroying her confidence!
Fantastic experience: Good facility, nearing completion on the renovations and relatively quiet first thing in the morning.
Positive experience: Pool can be cold at times........shame as staff are really nice and friendly.
Fantastic experience: After reading the bad reviews I was a little anxious for first visit with grandson..but staff were so very helpful..smiley and nice..changing rooms perfect for changing in.. water was the body temperature you expect..yes cool at first but myself grandson and all others there enjoyed it.. baby pool shut but they don't always have enough lifeguards due to illness which I was glad to see them stick to safety laws and keep it shut.. will definitely be back alone as aqua aerobics after our swimming looked great.. thank you all staff you were great at making our visit a pleasure
Fantastic experience: Thank so much for free membership for Ukrainians like welcome us in Yeovil) I did not find work yet, but so like swimming. You comes true my dream☺️Administrators are nice and friendly. Thanks so much for your support)
Negative experience: Awful. Brought our baby in to build water confidence. When we got in the learner pool (which I’m shocked was open) it was freezing even for us adults. Poor baby screamed the second he touched the water and my boy loves water. Spoke to the very rude receptionists and they said the temp is checked 4x a day and that we went in the water so no refund. We were in there less than 10 minutes.
Negative experience: Avoid. Rude staff and small pool often closes. Very disappointed with goldenstones today. Day in easter holidays. This was the third time in a row that during our visit we had to get out the little pool for it to close. Told this time it was due to staff absence. This is difficult for three young children to understand who cannot yet swim, the youngest has learning disabilities and having to only be in the big pool caused him a great deal of upset, so we shortly had to leave. As we left we spoke to the receptionist who showed no compassion and was actually quite rude. When we walked out we then heard laughing, very unprofessional. We will not be returning again.
Positive experience: Great swimming pool spoiled by the abysmal car parking arrangements. Bring cash and don't use Pay and Park (real name park and be fined!)
Fantastic experience: Friendly, nice setting. Will definitely go again!
Negative experience: Awful, changing rooms disgusting and unclean, swimming lessons overcrowded and kids bump into each other, no point calling as no one every answers the phone and cuts off after a few rings. Seriously gone downhill since the take over and customer service is none existent!
Positive experience: Lovely swimming pool facility but a bit busy for Lane swimming at lunchtimes
Positive experience: Good to catch up with everyone in the gym, been a touch few years with lockdowns and the situation we all been through but hsving regular feed backs and e-mails in the know is good keep up the good work.
Fantastic experience: This was my first visit here, I came to start swimming lessons for my daughter and myself. I was attended by Megan (I think that was her name) who was wonderful, she explained every small bits about the membership and fees. She answered all my questions with patience and I was quite satisfied with the treatment I received here. Definitely worth a 5 star first time experience, am hoping the swimming sessions would also be great.
Fantastic experience: Lovely staff, good membership price, friendly people in a good place. So much better than when I last went 15 years ago. I'll be a regular now
Fantastic experience: Clear signs and clean pool. Friendly staff. Good swim had by all family. No problems. Thank you.
Fantastic experience: Excellent, great friendly staff.
Fantastic experience: Great staff, friendly and enthusiastic good quality classes
Negative experience: Never ever ever answer phone so you can’t find out anything you need to know about the pool or gym or sign up. In fact, if you keep calling they get irritated & staff cut off their phone. If you send a membership enquiry via their website, they leave you a voicemail to call them but still don’t pickup phone. I tried for weeks before managing to sign up. They’re going to be losing a lot of custom. A few more observations: - swimming pool timetable is completely random so you have to plan in advance when to go. - gym has no lockers so you have to go into the wet swimming area - sauna has random opening times so often you can’t use it after swimming - they can’t be bothered to fix the steam room so just use it as a staff storage area - unlike in other pools, management don’t keep even a single lane for lengths during “open swim” sessions, so people struggle to swim around the hoards of uncontrolled screaming kids - parking is £1.05 per hour including “SMS message & booking fee”- on top of membership. - gym free weight area has enough space for 2 people. Machines can’t replace free weights. - automatic door broken & not fixed in ages - you have to touch the dirty door handle to get inside - instead of their maintenance team working when the club is closed, they wait until customers are walking past them to then use 95dB loud drills in the hallway without warning, making the environment stressful for customers. - instead of keeping at least one lane open for public fitness at all times, their swimming pool timetable usually denotes private sessions for schools, private clubs or “open swim” (mass mayhem with kids & no space to do laps). These sessions take up the entire pool. As a result, instead of them making it easy to stay fit, you have to plan your life around the management here. - When you do find a lane swimming slot that coincides with your availability, they usually put “open swimming” directly before it, thus causing the changing rooms to become full of screaming kids for the first half hour. If you wait for the hoards to leave so that you can get changed, you’ll only have around 20 minutes of swimming before the next session on their timetable. As a member, you struggle with their timetable on a daily basis & end up only being able to swim once a month. All these problems are unnecessary & could be easily fixed by leaving a couple of lanes open for public fitness at all times- it’s a big enough pool. Public swimming pools have a duty of care to enable the public to easily stay fit. This management fails in every regard. Life is complex- why not do what most leisure centres do & leave a couple of lanes for paying members to swim at any time? You can still have parties & private bookings in the rest of the pool- it’s a big pool. Ridiculous & unreasonable management..
Positive experience: It a good place to exercize
Fantastic experience: Great pool and gym and the staff are lovely
Fantastic experience: Been in the pool and sauna and steam a few times but not in gym yet but about to become a member cant wait
Positive experience: Great place and very good covid measures in place .would get 5 stars apart from the fact that guy who hasn't changed his habits from last time and insists on taking over the slow SWIM lane ,stopping to talk so loudly every 2minutes,getting in everybody's way and preventing others from carrying out their swimming excercise comfortably.
Fantastic experience: Great place to workout. Social distancing and hygiene very good.
Negative experience: Your website is terrible and I can't ever get anyone to answer a phone. Time tables are hard to find.
Positive experience: Long time since I've been in the gym but it used to be very good
Positive experience: Great centre, lovely and helpful staff. Currently the Air Con in the gym is busted and has been for a long while. Easily overheat.
Negative experience: Steam room old fashioned and dirty, worse I have ever seen, changing rooms and showers very dirty, hair on floor, staff grabs bucket of water from pool and poures it over it, that's their cleaning, appaling, staff at desk not helpful at all, don't know who manages this place?
Negative experience: Too busy, there's no way to swim after work as always swimming lessons
Negative experience: Baby pool is usually cold, colder than the main pool anyway. Main pool is very dirty with bits floating in the water, hair and plasters etc at the bottom of the pool, looks like they never clean it. Male toilets have a really strong smell or urine and are dirty, no toilet paper in cubicles and no soap in the hand dispensers. Changing rooms are dirty only main walkways are washed down. Male showers are disgusting.
Negative experience: Unclean unisex changing area. Smelt strongly of urine.
Negative experience: Don't even deserve one star! Once again not open and they haven't even updated to the website
Negative experience: Don't bother going for the inflatable fun hour. If you think your kids can go and let off a bit of steam, then think again, they have a ridiculous system of letting two kids on the inflatable raft at a time, making the rest of the kids queue at the side of the pool (health and safety), resulting in kids getting cold and bored waiting in a queue before their next turn, which took 12 minutes before they could go again. My two grandchildren cost me £9 for just 5 turns on the inflatable, the rest of the 1 hour session was taken up with queueing and the inflatable equipment going flat (not kidding). Fun?.. no, value for money?..no, repeatable experience?..no, rip off?..oh yes!
Positive experience: Nice pool. Quite busy. Would be nice if the temperature was a little warmer though.
Fantastic experience: Clean facilities, the staff is friendly and helpful. Just make sure to check the timetable if there is public use when you want to do your swim session prior to going there- no admittance if there is other avtivities going on. Great lanes, additionally the sauna and the steam room are super extras.
Negative experience: Paid for car park to then be informed we could not swim there and staff member on the reception desk had a very miserable and unhelpful attitude and did not offer to resolve the situation in any way shape of form. Appauling customer service, very disappointed.
Fantastic experience: Good swimming pool
Fantastic experience: Great equipment and a great place if you want to pay as you go instead of only monthly fees
Fantastic experience: Great prices and really good facilities. The pools are well kept and the gym facilities and staff are brilliant
Negative experience: The place for children was smelly disgusting
Fantastic experience: It's brill I love going and the team member are very friendly
Positive experience: Nice area great for kids
Positive experience: Nice place for a swim, lessons are particularly good for the younger
Positive experience: Slightly dated now but still good facilities
