Negative experience: They charging you 56 pounds for "vip" access book 2 weeks in advance,but when you want to book they don't let you and they what to charging you another 11 pounds Not very fair what they are doing

Fantastic experience: I love this Leisure centre. Not too crowded, lovely kids' pool with toys and a fantastic soft play. The staff are also great. I just wish it had a cafe!

Positive experience: This is my local Active gym. While I like the gym ovearall, the amount of equipment and thr fact that it is not too busy in the morning (for example compared with the Berkhamsted one). There is definitely room for improvements. The places could do with a bit more care and maintenance: the showers are often dirty, the locker room tiny with many lockers not working or with hooks for the clothes with additionally some of the benches beeing a bit worn and damaged.

Negative experience: Gym is lowkey way too mid to be charging £45 a month. Unfortunately the best gym in Chesham so they can pretty much charge anything they want. If u can drive outside of Chesham I would recommend looking elsewhere

Fantastic experience: First time in this 25m indoor heated pool. Was the only pool on a 10 miles radius with a late lane swimming slot. Booked a fast lane session. As far as I could tell, there were no other lane dividers between slow and medium lane. The lockers, changing facilities and showers are clean. Shower water was hot and nice. The pool water was too hot for a proper swimming workout - on average 29°C with a max of 30°C. The swimmers very well behaved, overall a pleasant experience.

Positive experience: Not a bad gym if you are looking for cardio workouts.. more than enough treadmills, cross trainers and exercise cycles. You have to struggle a bit or plan properly on a day and time if you have to get a bench or good workout with weights. Small area available for stretching and cooling down too (assume it can fit 6 people at a time), overall a compact gym with limited resources in our local area. Not sure how efficient are the group exercises as you have to book them in advance and I could never managed to book a one.

Negative experience: Poor selection of equipment, the equipment they do have is scattered everywhere, and dirty (see photo, surely they have a vacuum cleaner)

Positive experience: Me and my wife took my 11 month old to the baby pool. Bit cold for her could do with being a few °c warmer. But good facilities

Negative experience: Gym itself is basic but ok. , and when equipment breaks is generally fixed quickly. It’s the men’s changing room that is a complete joke. No room for more than two people at a time getting changed! Would be funny if I wasn’t paying £45 a month for it. Sadly no other/better choices locally. That’s the only reason they keep people as members.

Positive experience: Chesham Leisure Centre, a gem on my day trip, left me with a memorable experience. From the moment I walked in, I was greeted by a very friendly man at the reception desk, setting a welcoming tone for the visit. Although there was a minor hiccup with the vending machine being out of order and my hungry child in tow, the staff went above and beyond. I requested to pay via the card machine at the reception, and to my surprise, they promptly opened the vending machine, allowing my child to pick their favorite snacks. It was a small act of kindness that made a big difference. The swimming pool at the centre was quite impressive, offering a spacious and clean environment for families to enjoy. What's more, they even had a soft play area catering to children up to 8 years old, providing a perfect outlet for young ones to burn off some energy. The changing rooms were impeccably maintained and clean, ensuring a pleasant experience for all visitors. For those looking to relax or have a chat before or after their activities, there were several tables and chairs in the reception area. It created a welcoming atmosphere for people to unwind. Convenience was also a key feature of Chesham Leisure Centre. With its own car park, parking was hassle-free, making it easy for visitors. Additionally, the high street was just a 10-15 minute walk away, offering a variety of options for dining and shopping. For those who preferred a more scenic route, there was a nature walk leading to the high street, providing a peaceful alternative to the pavement. Chesham Leisure Centre clearly understands the needs of the community and provides a warm, family-friendly environment for all. It's a place that ensures both parents and children can make the most of their leisure time.

Positive experience: I’ve been going to this gym for a week and I like the range of classes and equipment in the gym. Haven’t tried swimming yet. The only downside is the cleaning in the female changing room, every time I go it’s quite dirty but I think it’s more because of the customers rather than the staff.

Negative experience: Admin team always shares the incorrect information. I always have to follow up multiple times to get the update

Negative experience: Quite expensive. Not sure why. Some staff are lovely, some are moody/fake, some don't know what they're doing. Often you'll get contradictory information or they can't actually help with admin - i suspect because of the system in place and not the fault of the staff. Overall, more faff than necessary, staff and classes are very hit and miss, but still, it's a clean usable gym that never gets too busy (it's not a mystery why that is)

Positive experience: I only use the gym and it's pretty good. New equipment and well maintained. They even purchased a belt for weighted dips at my request. Gavin (gym staff) is very friendly and helpful but most of the other staff don't really engage much but I don't mind that. My only gripe about the gym is that the floor is often dusty and needs hoovering more. The customer service at reception downstairs however, is some of the worst I've ever seen (and I work as a customer service assessor). I once saw a lady enquire about enrolling her kids in swimming lessons only to be told to go online. When she explained that she had been online and sent 3 or 4 emails to no response she was told 'I don't do that so I can't help you'. She almost had to beg the woman at reception to find someone to help her. I believe this member of staff is no longer there and things may be improving a little but I often see a long queue with only one teenager serving whilst at quiet times three of them are sat around chatting. Overall, 5⭐ for the gym, 3⭐ for reception. I'm a pretty happy customer but please get the Hoover out a bit more and invest in some customer service training.

Positive experience: Great place, best gym in Chesham, decent pool and nice staff It's the priciest gym in Chesham but it's rarely packed and has windows (a rare commodity in Chesham gyms) Edit - a few years on and I've lowered the score. Its still my favourite gym in chesham but the monthly cost is just increasing more and more and it's no longer viable.

Positive experience: Quietest place for a swim at the moment! Even in the Public swim sessions you can negotiate a good few lengths. Didn't like the communal change area but thats just personal preference.

Negative experience: We normally use this pool as it is quieter than others in the area, however it is normally quite a cold pool. Last Sunday visited and the pool was absolutely freezing to the point we could not get warm despite constantly swimming lengths. We ended up leaving after 30 minutes. I asked the lifeguard twice why it was so cold and she said there was nothing she could do about the temperature. The air con in the changing rooms doesn't help, its freezing! My daughter is now very ill with a cold and cough from this experience. Will not be visiting again.

Positive experience: I have been going weekly for some months with my 5 year old grandson - the timing of its family swimming sessions works for us better than other centres. I have seen some on-line criticism of the receptionists, but we have found them unfailingly friendly and helpful. But the water is just that bit too cold, for me as well as him. Quite often we have to cut short the session because my grandson is shivering. And the changing rooms feel freezing when you get out too. In fact, last week he said he doesn't want to go again because of the cold. I will try to change his mind because his parents think it is good for him - but I wish it was more comfortable!

Fantastic experience: Much better equipment than Welcome gym and no waiting for it either as there is enough to go around, lovely staff, clean facilities too. Best local gym

Negative experience: The sign in front of the entrance says hello everyone, but it was not like that in my case when I needed to use the toilet emergency even when I wasnt customar at this time and I was told NO by the ladies at the reception. The womens at the reception did not show any human help at this time for me‍♂️Well

Negative experience: Unable to make contact with the Booking Manager, or other suitable person, or get a response to enquiries for making long term weekly bookings for a sports booking. Despite submitting an enquiry via the website, 2 phone conversations with reception and submitting a follow-up enquiry directly to a member of staff's direct work email address. They also appear to have a resourcing issue for a suitable person to surervise the Junior gym times. My son is frequently unable to book a place to attend the gym, even though it is within the opening hours that the Junior membership should cover.

Negative experience: Very rude receptionist lady. When you asking her any questions she's making a face like she's doing a favour to you by answering. Been booking family swimming sessions where says all pools are open (I meant to take my toddler), but toddler pool was closed whenever we've been coming there and water in main pool is freezing cold for little baby. I would avoid to coming here. Cancelling my membership.

Now with brand spanking NEW equipment and refurbishment done to the gym everyone can find something for themselves - heavy lifting, cardio, spinning, all sorts of fat burning, muscle toning group classes. And a great pool which I tend to use daily. Sauna would be a great addition - maybe one day

Positive experience: The leisure center itself is good. There’s a 25m pool which is often separated into lanes, making it good for lengths. They also have certain times dedicated to families. In addition, there’s also a pool for smaller children which is kept slightly warmer. Above the pool is a viewing gallery. The gym is well-kitted out and maintained with helpful staff. There is also a large multi-use sports hall at the back which can be rented out for various activities throughout the week. The only criticism I have (which unfortunately takes away the five-star rating) is that the whole thing is so expensive — whether that’s a membership or just a one-off visit. Most other places in Chesham are cheaper — but then most other places aren’t quite as good. It depends what drives you.

Positive experience: Did very well In hosting two walking football festivals last year.

Negative experience: Every day it’s a game of playing spot the next piece of out of order equipment. The water fountain has been broken since November with a sign saying ‘will be fixed next week’ it’s appalling that a gym cares so little for their members. Each week at least two of the machines are out of order and for the past 2 weeks the women’s toilets have all been out of order and for a few days the changing rooms stank of sewage. In terms of the gym, it’s quiet which is good but there are very very few classes offered especially compared to other Better gyms nearby. I wont be renewing my membership and will go to fitness for less where at least they have classes, don’t charge a fortune and have a working water fountain!

Negative experience: Absolute dreadful place, only reason I gave it one star is because there is no option to go lower! Funny how most of the good reviews are left by members of Staff. They are always under staffed, no staff present in the gym at any time. Receptionist's are ok depending on their mood. the rest of the staff dont even bother talking to customers. Not very welcoming at all. The one male PT on site never wants to talk to male members or interact with them, yet he is always looking to stop and talk to Female members. Gym is dirty, out dated and run down. Alot of things are out of order too often and take forever to get repaired. Air con was out of order and took over a year to repair / replace. Water Fountain has been out of order since November and still isn't repaired. Overpriced and awful facilities. Would avoid like the plague.

Negative experience: No supervision of people going in and out and little or no supervision of gym floor, which is often too crowded with groups of young men who often don’t seem to know what that are doing and dominate the dumbells. . Much of the equipment is poorly looked after and old. Not a fun work out to be I’m afraid.

Positive experience: It's a leisure center with lots of facilities. Theirs a gym( with weights, treadmills, rowing and biking machines), you can hire personal trainers, a swimming pool(with swimming lessons available, football pitch, various running fields, tennis courts and a hall( where you can trampoline, play table tennis and other sports). However use of the leisure center is very expensive. The gym membership is expensive and not having the membership is even more expensive.

Negative experience: Pros:-- Most of staff members are friendly. Gym is well equipped Cons:-- Water in swimming pool is cold but showers are burning hot. Expensive for most of activities Revenue generation is core focus. Too much focus on how to get more money from customers. Every single policy is drafted in their favor. Changing rooms have very poor ventilation and stink. Most of pool time is reserved for swimming classes (to ensure more cash can be generated).

Negative experience: Expensive membership for what you get. They cancelled my induction twice and didn't seem all that interested on the third attempt. After visiting the male changing rooms it stunk of stale wee and the floor was filthy and covered in debris and stains. The gym wasn't any better the treadmill has touch screen systems that was covered in dried sweat. The cup holder had something growing out of it and everything was dirty and dusty. I didn't work out and cancelled my membership online immediately. Shamefully no one bothered to discuss it with me and I have had to chase them up for a refund of my membership. Upon writing this it still hasn't been received and that was over a month ago. Avoid this gym if you value your health and want value for money.
