Negative experience: can do with a lot of improvements... lovely reception staff, good swim lessons for my son, however the place is filthy, changing room, showers, gym; sauna room temperature too low, restaurant fees too high, no rules in the car park with vehicles parked on the footpaths all the time, and some individuals driving very fast in and out. club v not what it used to be also, kids don't get to do what they like to do (better use of the facility is required as kids/parentswill be droppingoff and not renewing membership).

Fantastic experience: Amazing experience through out all the Virgin Active clubs in the country but this was alittle special as it also had a outdoor swimming pool well as the normal spa sauna/steam room

Fantastic experience: 5 stars for the good staff members who allowed me to pray in the private rooms catering to people from all walks of life is a 5 star trait. Secondly I just want to add that the gym is very nice but the outside pool is often closed which is annoying also the showers and saunas feel a bit dirty
Positive experience: Ok gym. All the equipment you need plus decent size swimming pool. Does feel a little tired and run down now though with lots of stuff that is either broken or doesn’t work - which ain’t great considering the prices they charge!

Negative experience: It's a good gym but needs a really good clean/ refurb. Scum line is visible in all pools/ hot tubs. Thankfully showers are clean and tidy. Equipment and gym need a good clean and repaint. There are holes in the wall, scuffed paint and the such, just looks tired. Also disappointed by the lack of towels, given the price of membership I would expect complementary towels and just expected higher quality. Virgin have replied to my review saying there is 1 trowel per person. There are NO towels, reception confirmed they do not have any towels for members. Nor have they ever had a towel service.

Positive experience: Hello, I wanted to leave a review about this pool for a long time. The water is wonderful, there is a children's pool where my son has a great time. The water temperature is comfortable, the water is clean. We have been going to this pool with my son for about a year. But there is, in my opinion, a very big minus. Toilet in the children's pool. It is very dirty, the toilet leaks, so there is always a lot of dirty water under it. The floor is dirty. It seems that they rarely clean there. This situation has been going on for about a year. In the summer, when the toilet was closed, the smell from the toilet was so strong that you could hear it while swimming, because the toilet was leaking. Why is the administration not doing anything about it? children and adults go to the children's pool barefoot, then carry the dirt into the water. It would be great if the administration of the pool supervised the repair of toilets and pipes.

Negative experience: I’ve been here since the end of September and I’ve never been to a gym with such bad management. I don’t understand how it takes over a month for a refund which the gym took out of my account. I’m trying to cancel my gym membership but I don’t understand why it’s so difficult for them to cancel it when I can’t even attend the gym what’s the point of me still paying for the membership.

Negative experience: I have repeatedly asked for basic water to be provided by Yoga studio as it gets very hot during class and I feel light headed, same as may other people have before. Club refuse to provide. No water facilities on the whole lower building area at all. Today came out and asked for water from class, full 30mins all 3 staff ignored. When I came out again staff started arguing in public in front of other gym members causing embarrassment. I have reported to Health & Safety Solihull Council. Virgin never take any complaints seriously and already advised they have court cases going on due to H&S breaches. Don't respond back with general reply. If you respond provide date publicly visible on here date you are putting water machine for members. Water is mandatory Health and Safety requirement. And I want a full apology from 3 unprofessional staff members.

Negative experience: Joined recently but am very disappointed so far. Kids club is always fully booked, hard to book on to classes as they get booked up within minute of being released on the booking system. have tried to call reception several times but no answer. The place needs a really good clean. Might have to re-think my membership.
Positive experience: Could be a great place, so much potential with great facilities! It has everything you want and more from a gym! But, and there are a few buts, maintenance and cleanliness need huge focus, I’m pretty sure the men’s changing rooms haven’t been refurbished since it opened. I left the gym back then (2001/2) due to poor maintenance, I have since rejoined and am amazed how poor the men’s changing rooms are still. And it’s a pretty similar message throughout, the gym is showing lots of signs of weariness. The gym equipment is based on the 1996 mywellness key based system?!?! I had one of the original keys back in 2001. Above all else It needs a good deep clean and overhaul.
Negative experience: Management is a joke, to say the least. I'm extremely disappointed with Virgin Active's decision to close the sauna, plunge pool, and outdoor pool for four months due to "low usage"—right in the busiest season of the year! These facilities are some of the main reasons I joined the gym, especially during this time. It's unacceptable to remove them when so many members rely on them. Poor planning and communication. Feels like a waste of my membership money. Very frustrating!
Fantastic experience: A well run club, clean, airy, generally good capacity. The outdoor pool is excellent and the classes well led, particularly my favourites: yoga, boxing, bodypump and some hiit..

Fantastic experience: Great open plan gym, excellent facilities and Ellie was fantastic at showing us around and registering as new members. Smooth process and rewards for members engaging with the club. Would recommend 100%.
Positive experience: Have one of the best swimming pools, sauna, and jacuzzi, but unfortunately, the cleanliness is not up to the standards. It needs deep cleaning with pressured hot water and scrubbing, not staff members just mopping around. Reception in welcoming and helpful
Negative experience: No way worth the £70 a month that it is. Unless you want to be splashed by kids every time in the pool, unhygienic floors & a basic gym which constantly has people grunting and machines “on a break” for weeks.
Negative experience: Where do I start? We joined back in May 2024. All seemed fine except that I allowed myself to be talked into a Personal Training programme. The first session was booked and the trainer didn't turn up - this was after he gave me a lecture on punctuality and communication. After learning that he was on annual leave (at a wedding) I decided to cancel the programme – and that’s when all the problems started! Everyone was very sympathetic and very sorry for us, blah, blah, blah, but they still took the money from out bank account after we cancelled! Several phone calls were made – all with promises that someone will call us back because they ‘escalated’ the query. NOBODY called back. We do not trust Virgin Active to honour the terms of a basic contract or to take the correct amount of money from our bank account. The trust has completely gone.

Negative experience: I’m a long time user of the gym and love the facilities but it gets a one star right now as it is so unclean in the women’s facilities. Serious improvement is needed in the cleaning standards, especially when prices are rising. The women’s changing area is really bad, hair, plasters and dirt everywhere, just sweeped under the changing benches when it is cleaned, the toilets are nothing shy of grim, the toilet seats aren’t aligned to the toilet so you’re just sat on the bare toilet bowl, the toilets themselves are very dirty at that. Sinks are broken, bathroom floor is dirty etc. not great when you’re paying this much money, would expect it from one of the cheap gym options

Negative experience: Massively overpriced for plain mediocre. Mismanaged by a sly corner cutting gm who allows for a so called head of exercise to be so rude and arrogant towards members causing us to leave. Only up side is the staff who have to put up with a shambles of a workplace, the family team and the lifeguards who seem to get reprimanded for doing what is correct instead of what they're being told to do by incompetent leadership. I wish to all those staff to move onto somewhere better like us members. Poor, just poor.
Fantastic experience: Have been using it for a couple of months. You get your space when you know when to visit . The app is helpful in showing how is the gym occupied… classes are good …swimming pools are amazing … the indoor one is always warm.. so the kids like it … sauna spa steam rooms very well kept and managed
Fantastic experience: I just can’t speak highly enough about this gym, I only joined a few days ago (I’m 67 years old) and I’ve always disliked gyms with a passion. However, I decided if I want to go towards my 70’s in the best possible way and maintain my independence I needed to do something. This gym is absolutely superb, the classes, the pools, the spa, the gym and most importantly the wonderful staff. I’ve needed quite a bit of support and every member of staff has been more than helpful, this is so rare these days to have a full team of people who are genuinely supportive and go the extra mile to help, highly recommended and I’m so very pleased I took the plunge and joined.

Fantastic experience: It’s a very nice gym I’ve been to many branches in the UK of Virgin. I can say this one is one of the best. Friendly staff Big gym area Amazing spa To be honest the spa is life changing However not giving towel and a bit old machines in the gym area need to be sorted to be a 10/10 gym.
Negative experience: The spas are amazing. Only issues are the gym equipment feels broken when using it. It’s all unbalanced and feels heavily used which then makes me struggle pushing heavy weights as it’s slightly lopsided. All the pools have dirt scum rings around the water lines. Which makes you feel like you don’t want to touch anything. There are things falling off the walls (coat hangers etc) The changing rooms are all open rooms so you get undressed around other people. The showers water pressure is awful so it takes forever to wash yourself. Also the shower doors are partly see through. Also I parked in the car park to use the gym that’s meant to be free for all virgin active members. Yet I apparently exceeded the parking limit and was fined £100… I contacted both the gym themselves and met parking (the company that owns the car park) and was told there was nothing they can do and to just pay it. So overall. I will definitely not be returning at all. Which is a shame because the saunas and outside pool are amazing..
Positive experience: The facilities are amazing. I love the outdoor pool in particular. The changing room is spacious and kept very clean and tidy. The indoor pool can get busy and they let children swim in non-family lanes, which I think is just wrong. My main problem is male behaviour is starting to get really out of hand and no one does anything about it. I’ve been a member for 3 years and it’s just getting worse and worse. Groups of lads just feel like the whole place is theirs, they’re loud, obnoxious and disturb everyone’s peace and quiet. The club knows this and doesn’t address it. They have a tiny rules display but they don’t really enforce any of it. I constantly feel uncomfortable and on edge in the spa and sauna areas.

Fantastic experience: Great gym/spa, the facilities are spot on, ignore people's salty comments about the showers and the lockers smelling, I've been going every day throughout the week for the last year, ive never smelt wee in the locker room or showers and yes sometimes the pump fails on the main jacuzzi, the maintenance are usually fast to fix it, none of the saunas have ever leaked, sometimes the outdoor one trips the breaker when people lunge the element with water, I've never seen either of them leak. If you have any problems, with or while using the facilities the staff are quite fast to get on top of it. There can be miss communication sometimes, but that goes without saying its a busy place with a lot going on. It can't be perfect all the time. but it's definitely the best gym/spa in Birmingham. One thing I'd like to add, to the a**holes that put olbas oils and eucalyptus on the heating element in the loft sauna, f you you have zero consideration for others that use the spa, it's rude. Go do that **** at home

Fantastic experience: Really excellent facilities. The changing rooms are decent with hair dryers and sizeable lockers, the showers have body wash. The gym is large enough that you can always find something to do, I've not had many issues with not being able to use the equipment i want to use even when it's super busy. I feel like the atmosphere in the gym is way nicer as a woman than most gyms i've been to. Highlight for me is absolutely the sauna/spa/steam facilities. I love it there and the plunge pool in the winter is top tier

Negative experience: Absolutely awful honestly not happy with the monthly payment 20 pound for a day pass honestly mate that is shocking 50 pound for a month you can get 4 months memeber ship on other gyms

Negative experience: It's ridiculous when you have been charged for a period that hasn’t used the gym!!! I had monthly payment plan that is not a long term contract and they charged me for almost 3 month after i cancelled to go there!!! Welcome to Virgin Active style scam If it’s monthly plan and you charging me extra for that why do I need to inform you 1 month before to cancel? And when you call the customer service on the phone to cancel the plan they would say they don't have access to do that! Just for charging you for one more month!

Positive experience: Had a membership at this gym but now cancelled. Staff are really friendly and lots of equipment but always felt dirty. Luckily I got half price membership with my life insurance as it is certainly not worth £70+ a month.

Positive experience: Much cleaner and tidier and overall a more pleasant gym. Hats off to the cleaners who have done a great job. Compared to about 3 years ago the gym is much better. (Covid must have been a big hurdle for them) The machines are serviced and all work. Obviously some times some of the spa items are out of use but with such big building and the number of visitors they must get i think its understandable and the odd pool closure is not the end of the world. I think in the current energy climate we are very lucky to have such a great venue and i feel that the occasional hiccup is worth overlooking for the overall experience. Positive experience: Okay gym equipment not many machines for muscle buidling. Good spa facilities yet the outdoor pool which i have only been in twice since joining over 6 months ago is always closed when i get there. I can't understand why they would advertise and have a heated pool outside if it is always closed

Fantastic experience: I had a personal training session with Craig today, having not used some of the gym equipment and machines before Craig really helped me feel more confident and helped me so much with my technique and getting the most out of my work out . Craig was really friendly and made me feel really relaxed and confident I will definitely be booking future personal training sessions with him . Negative experience: I have been a member for a year now and I will not be renewing my membership. For the price that you pay, the standard of cleanliness and equipment is just disappointing. This place needs a proper clean, the stations are sticky, with rubbish and old chewing gums stuck in cup holders, the walls are covered in dirt, you can find all sorts of bodily fluids splashes on the glass screen. I also cannot remember a time when all of the stairmasters would be working... There are always a few stations closed which is disappointing considering this isn't the biggest gym and it does get busy. Also, if you decide to try to book Club V for your little one, I wish you luck trying to a) get hold of anyone b) meet their ridiculous criteria where you are only allowed to book exactly 10 days before.. not a day earlier or later. I used to use Virgin Active in Nottingham and I absolutely love it - it was clean, spacious, very well equipped and had the ladies only zone. This was the only reason I gave Solihull a shot. I am leaving VA and moving to PureGym - it's cleaner, open 24/7 with the ladies only zone and for the 1/3 of Virgin Active membership price. Do better Virgin Active, for the sake of your members.

Fantastic experience: I have been a long term member of this gym but have never left a review, not that i don’t like it just have not had the chance had to until now. I was involved in a unfortunate instance where someone took by clothes from my locker, i approached kasy at the reception as well as another staff member who where immediately concerned and where extremely helpful. They took matters in to their own hands and made me feel so much better, i cant thank them enough. Thank you Kasy (apologies if spelt if wrong), keep up the fantastic work! Your a credit to the Gym.

Positive experience: Great gym, the spa facilities are out of this world for a gym, well looked after too. The sauna outside is not always welcoming with a real lad atmosphere, and there seems to be no code for behaviour. At times I have asked staff to intervene when there had been poor behaviour like filming in the spa or a group of lady fully dressed hanging out in the spa, but the (young) staff have mostly not intervened. The pool, saunas, steam room and pools are glorious. The gym is great and childcare very good too.

Negative experience: Steer clear from this gym! My husband has had a rolex watch and a pair of adidas trainers stolen from him at this very place. What's worse is that the staff made no effort to help with the situation, leaving my husband to have to drive home barefoot when his trainers were stolen (these were two separate occasions). Certainly doesn't feel like a premium gym of any sort and definitely not secure. Cancelled the membership.
Negative experience: Pool area is decent and I always find space to swim. Kids really enjoy the kids pool however swimming lessons seem to be priotised all the time, I guess this is because this is an extra money maker! V club is a complete waste of time as no one answers the phone actually book it, so we appear to be paying for nothing!

Negative experience: Been a member and rejoined after a while. The gym hasn’t changed over 10 years. Spa area is decent however my main concern is cleanliness. The male changing rooms are always filthy. Just wish this gym had some sort of pride factor in it again. Doesn’t make you feel like you’re in a premium gym anymore

Negative experience: THE WORST GYM! Avoid avoid avoid!! The communication is 0, no one replies to your emails or calls and the facilities are rubbish. Don’t bother trying to book a class because they’re always FULLY BOOKED. The car park is just a muddy field with bumps everywhere which, if you have an expensive car it’ll get scratched or your bumper will get ruined. No cameras so it’s not secure and there’s no bay marking so people park stupidly. The price you pay for this gym is so ridiculously high (£60-£70 per month), all for the jacuzzi/ sauna which by the way only works for 1 minute before it alternates. So you’re just sat there like a sitting duck not to mention the water is COLD. All in all, by far the worst decision I’ve made and I can’t even cancel because I’m BOUND by the CONTRACT for 1 year! If you’re foolish enough to join, you’ll be highly disappointed.

With regards to the Jacuzzi, we have had some maintenance issues with the button that activates the bubbles in the different sections. We do have a new part on order and just awaiting delivery and fitting. At the moment, the lifeguards are monitoring this and they are activating it manually when the timer timers out. Positive experience: Spa facilities very dated and are in desperate need of modernisation. I was a member 10 years ago and nothing has changed. The showers smell bad and there’s grime everywhere, also the water pressure is shocking. There is nothing luxurious about the spa facility at all for the price you are paying. They clearly spent a lot of money initially but have decided they will spend no money maintaining it and just let it ruin. The gym is good and spacious with lots of equipment for me but it gets very very busy. Negative experience: Am very disappointed. Previously I have entered this gym by paying £20 for a day pass, yesterday I was served by the 'manager' Sean, who was quite abrupt and almost in disbelief of what I was saying, challenging me. I had stated to him that I have previously entered the gym via paying a one off fee to enter to the gym facilities for a day, upon arrival I asked Sean if I could enter with a day pass, he then mentions that they've never done day passes before which contradicts the previous time that I was served by him and he let me in after paying this £20 fee. Sean then turned us away so we had to go to go to another gym with similar facilities. It's a shame that a gym with amazing facilities has to be let down by certain members of staff.

Fantastic experience: Fantastic Facility. Best Health Club I've ever been and I frequent many. Superb Spa with indoor sauna's, steam room, hydro-pool and free water, with indoor heated swimming pool, plus outdoor plunge pool, sauna and heated swimming pool. Worth a visit and site tour and a day pass to relax.
Negative experience: Trying for a long time to book a spa day and getting no reply to e mail or answer phone. Answer phone keeps saying August and I have had to pay to extend voucher.

Fantastic experience: Lovely gym, lots of equipment. My only issue, I tried to lift the squat rack and it toppled on me. Luckily a member of staff, a young asian lad, possible arabic or oriental decent, its hard to tell as I'm blind in one ear, anyway he lifted the rack off my long enough for me to slide out and recover my kagool. I was asked to leave the gym after an incident in the locker rooms were I was cornered by a large man in a towel, I started thrashing and he called for staff to assist him....which is ridiculous because I was the one in need of help. Either way I will continue to pay monthly until my contract runs out.

Negative experience: Really disappointing. I have been a member for a year and virgin Solihull, and I will not be renewing my membership at the end of this month. I have already read their negative reviews, so don’t expect anything less than a half hearted apology to this review, however, if you want a decent workout, please don’t waste your money here! To start the gym is totally outdated, and anyone who says otherwise is kidding themselves. For the amount of members they have, the actual gym space is tiny, and the gym can get far far too busy at times, where you won’t get any any machine whatsoever. The machines are also completely outdated. Quite frankly, a lot of then don't work right, yet nothing has been done to update them. I wouldn’t really call their spa a spa to be honest, more like just small overcrowded pool, and their swimming pool isn’t much better. Their customer service is at a rock bottom. Truly truly terrible. Staff are always rude and never want to help. Very disappointing Virgin. Very very disappointing.

Negative experience: Went here once with my wife, we left after the men in the pool/spa are where using the spa jets as 'pleasers', which made us both feel uncomfortable. Then we receive letters 3 months later demanding £300+ from us each having used the service once. I'm also disabled and realised quickly I can't use the gym. I'd go for one of the other gyms in the area. Whatever you do don't sign up for this gym if you aren't 100% committed as you have no try-out time or 14 day cooldown time.

Fantastic experience: After reading all the bad reviews on here i was a bit reluctant to go and visit the gym, but went anyway. It was completely opposite to what the majority of people on here were moaning about in their reviews. I can only imagine that they've had one bad experience there and felt that bitter about it that they had to write a bad review. Gym and Spa was clean, tidy and plenty of space and equipment even during peak time. Didn't struggle to get on any piece of equipment, neither was any of it dated or broken. The spa has 3 saunas (one outdoor log sauna and plunge pool), steam room, hydro pool and jaccuzi with an indoor and outdoor pool which were quality. Staff seemed friendly. Cafe area was clean and tidy. Don't be put off by the negative reviews. Go see it for yourself.

Negative experience: Use to be a decent gym but has gradually gone downhill. Gym machines are dated and poorly maintained, something is always broken, some machines have been removed and not replaced. Customer service is abysmal, I don't know how the centre manager still has a job there, the head office customer service manager isn't much better - I recommend virgin hire some better representatives in this respect! The new gym I've joined has more up-to-date machines, which are better maintained and the manager is a helpful, friendly person..... For less than half the monthly price of virgin. Don't waste your money on this virgin shambles!

For the cost of the membership they should provide lockers that lock , not "oh by the way you need to provide your own padlock ". No mention of it while you we're taking our money and couldn't even provide/sell me one so i could use the facilities on my first visit. Not a great 1st impression , hopefully this is hiccup and it improves.

Fantastic experience: I would like to start of by saying a big Thank you to “LISA” for being there within seconds when my Partner injured herself whilst working out. Literally within seconds Lisa was there to help followed by another colleague with a First Aid Bag. The Staff here are very friendly and always willing to help and answer any questions you have. The best gym by far in my opinion. I’ve been to gym’s that are more than half the price less than what i pay here but the service, facilities and equipment is amazing here. You definitely get what you pay for at Virgin Active Solihull.

Negative experience: For a luxury gym charging the prices that they do I am disgusted with the cleanliness of the gym and the lack of gym equipment, cant even do a full leg session at the gym as alot of the machines aren't even there! Even the most basic weight machines aren't even there. And the sauna and jacuzzi baths aren't kept upto to good condition, someone had left a piece of their skin on the side and hadn't been moved for weeks!!! Imagine paying £70 a month for a gym thats not as clean or have the machines of a £15 a month gym. I think members will be moving to David Lloyd sometime soon.

We currently have the following offering (along with free weight bars, lifting platform, etc.): Plate loaded leg press, normal leg presses, leg extension, seated leg curl, abductor) Other gyms may offer plate-loaded calf machines, hack squats, etc. but this has never been on offer in Solihull VA.
Negative experience: This gym has really gone down the pan you can hear first hand from other members you can read it in the reviews left by others and you can see it in pictures I've added just in the meal changing room's I didn't want to be walking around males showers the gutters were flooded with absolutely everything. Not to forget the amount machine's that are faulty or equipment that is broken or has excessive wear and requires replacing the toilets hardly have in loo role and hygiene is just diabolical for some members to tell me they have emailed head office and the response was we need more staff like is really that hard to even get temp staff. And the staff response is they are reducing their hour's don't know who's telling the truth. Another member said he was fob off by saying thank you from bringing to their attention and they will look into it. Disgusting!!! Health safety issues!!! Reduce hours on the weekends so they can deep clean another rubbish statement. DUST EVERYWHERE!!!

Negative experience: Have been a member at solihull for over 15 years , have seen this club decline over the past two years with cleanliness and general service . Went to reception this morning to buy a new padlock but when I got there was totally ignored for a few minutes while the 3 members of staff had a chat about about what they did last night rather than seeing to customer enquiries like they are there to do . I am cancelling my membership tomorrow because of this and the way the club has gone . Especially now they have increased the membership cost

Negative experience: Whatever you do, do not sign up for personal training with this gym. They charge you for the sessions in advance, my PT left the gym and I had six sessions outstanding. I requested a refund but was refused. I asked them to explain why, as I had paid for a service which they had failed to provide. They just kept repeating that they couldn't offer a refund for the sessions. On top of that, the equipment is frequently broken and you'll need a 4x4 vehicle to navigate the car park as it's full of gigantic pot holes. Update: as you can see below, apparently PT sessions are non-refundable even though it was Virgin that failed to provide the service, which I still can't get my head around - if it were me who didn't want the sessions anymore, I could understand them not being refundable - and by the way I wasn't offered another PT to take over the sessions.

Negative experience: Gym is fine, but very disspointed with the service. On THREE seperate occasions my partner phoned to try and cancel his membership. All three times the person on the phone said it had been cancelled, but every time his bank was still charged his membership fee. It took him cancelling the direct debit for the gym to phone him and ask why he wasnt paying his membership, even though three people told him it was successfuly cancelled! This has led to his account going into an unauthorised overdraft and has caused a whole hoard of issues for him. Do better virgin. Will never be going back.
