Users have praised its modern design, spaciousness, and light-filled environment, making it an enjoyable place to work out and relax.
Here are some highlights of what visitors appreciate most about the centre:
- Modern and Well-Equipped Gym: The gym is stocked with a good variety of modern equipment, though some users noted that a few machines require maintenance.
- Friendly and Helpful Staff: Many visitors compliment the friendly demeanor of the staff, particularly mentioning Daisy and Katherine at the reception desk for their welcoming attitude and willingness to assist.
- Swimming Facilities: The swimming pool is well-reviewed for its classes, especially for children, and while it can get busy, it also provides good opportunities for lane swimming at quieter times.
- Clean and Spacious Changing Rooms: The changing rooms received mixed reviews, with some praising the improvements compared to older facilities, although a few users expressed concerns about cleanliness.

Spelthorne Leisure Centre: Opinions
Fantastic experience: Great new leisure centre.
Positive experience: This doesn't exist anymore
Fantastic experience: Daisy on reception is always happy to help. She is always smiling and the first to ask if I need help when standing at the reception desk. She is professional and has helped me a number of times ans always asks how I am when visiting the gym.
Positive experience: Brand new sports centre. Compared to the 1970's one which was here before it is very modern. It is light and airy, the gym has all the modern equipment, the pool can be busy but when it is quiet it is good for lane swimming. Changing rooms are a good improvement compared to the old sports centre. Including family changing rooms. There is a small soft play, which I'm sure with a little more thought in the design could have been better. As it is quite small and tame compared to others. There is a clip and climb which is only open at weekends. Which also appears to be the same with the baby pool which is a shame. There are squash courts, sports hall and football pitches on the roof, although. I haven't used any of these so can't comment.
Fantastic experience: New building looks great. Very nice lady in reception provided helpful details and answered all questions. Will be joining shortly.
Fantastic experience: Brand New leisure centre, looks amazing
Negative experience: HOPEFULLY just teething problems !!! Couldn't add my partner to my online booking so still had to queue up to pay which took 25mins, which also made me late for my Gym induction.. Have to take shoes off before you walk into the changing rooms for the pool, which also means that you have to leave the changing room and walk across a wet floor to get to the hallway before you can put your shoes on.... What a stupid idea !!!! It seems like the centre and staff are more interested in signing people up for memberships rather than customer care and service, it's ALL about the money !! Such a shame a company has to operate like this.
Negative experience: The Badminton court is in very poor condition, but the elderly lady at the reception desk is incredibly helpful and friendly
Positive experience: Courts can do with some work as the wood creeks and it’s not even at all places
Fantastic experience: Will be sad when this closes
Fantastic experience: Considering it's coming to the end of its service life it's still a good place to visit. Clean and tidy, welcoming with a wide range of sporting activities on offer.
Fantastic experience: Excellent yoga session with Nina today
Positive experience: Friendly staff, building needs upgrade.
Negative experience: They are building a new leisure center but even so, some of the gym equipment should have been retired a long time ago. Machines are poorly maintained and they are not always set up appropriately eg. A leg press machine that only has half range of motion. If you only have single machines for an exercise then at least maintain them properly. When the new center opens I guess this can always be opened as a museum?
Positive experience: A lot of things no longer available as a brand new centre is opening in Summer 2024
Fantastic experience: Great swimming classes
Fantastic experience: Good place for swimming!
Negative experience: Been a member for a few years, most of the equipment belongs in a museum, half of the machines are not working and a terrible dirty place. Best thing is the staff especially Pauline and Hector. Don't become a member here.
Negative experience: Old, dirty, basically awful
Fantastic experience: A good venue to hold various events
Fantastic experience: Good for the evening events
Fantastic experience: Frequent here for badminton. It's usually quiet around 4-6pm. Just mention your booking with the staff behind the counter, and she'll let you through.
Positive experience: Nice enough local swimming pool and gym. Reasonable prices.
Positive experience: The place needs cleaned badly
Positive experience: Good gym, good swimming pool - the temperature gauge lies though!
Fantastic experience: Good memries here, cried a bit
Negative experience: Great easy parking however gym equipment is basic at best and massively outtdated. Hope the new centre opening fixes this.
Positive experience: The staff on reception were very helpful. I visited as I was in the area for work, and I used the slow lane for swimming. I'm not sure if everyone was aware of any particular etiquette as there were some swimming two abreast. But I managed to do my 50 lengths.
Fantastic experience: My boy Arvin had his first boxing match here! He smashed it
Fantastic experience: Just joined friendly helpful staff Great classes looking forward to my weight loss programme.
Positive experience: Lovely lady (I think her name is Katherine) on reception; I constantly call up forgetting the time of my daughters swimming lesson or with questions and she’s always so friendly. Obviously a lot of work going on in the vicinity with the new leisure centre being built so a lot of workmen and small diversions but none of this really makes a difference. I feel where they have got the new leisure centre being built, they’ve seem to have given up on the upkeep of the current leisure centre, cleanliness is always a bit of an issue for us here; the changing rooms smell of urine, I’ve mentioned it to reception if I’ve noticed it but it’s quite regular to be honest, aswell as old plasters surround the sides of the pools. My son and daughter used to do swimming lessons at Sunbury Leisure Centre which is the same company but the swimming teacher they had was awful (I know they’re not all like that there but they were all fully booked), since changing to Staines they have really improved and moved up stages brilliantly, the swimming teachers they have had at Staines have all been amazing, no matter which swim teacher they have they really enjoy the lessons and do so well.
Negative experience: I am here to raise concerns about sauna facility in spelthrone where no where in term and conditions stated you can only able to use sauna during public.swimming opens. In a day sauna is only opens midday or 8pm. I feel cheated with this idea. We are no more in pandemic and this arrangement need to be lift off or beed to be compensated on month subscription fee. It is very crowded on 8pm and I am concerned about bacteria and bodily contacts. I am also want to seek legal advice in this and I do highly believe spelthorne need to open sauna facility from start to closing time. Hope to hear soon from council or facility lead.
Fantastic experience: Lovely Leisure centre, friendly atmosphere and not too crowded too
Negative experience: Standards are falling rapidly, most likely due to countdown to new centre opening. Equipment reported as faulty weeks back and still not fixed, AIRCON unit still not working downstairs near the AMTs, again after months, paper towel dispensers not regularly refilled and generally not as clean as it should be anymore. Kit is not being maintained as often as needed. You need to put up signs to remind users to clean the equipment after use as people have become lazy again. More paper towel and spray stations needed. Issues reported to staff but not actioned by EA.
Fantastic experience: Great place to swim
Positive experience: This gym has everything I need, from free weights, weight machines and CV equipment. Staff are really good, I would recommend it. They also have a swimming pool, squash courts, and a nice cafe.
Negative experience: Have had a membership for years and not too sure why the facilities are rubbish. I enjoy the virtual rpm classes, however they have endless problems with the technology not working of which I have inquired about previously. Went there this morning for the half 8 class of which you could still book onto until that time, sat and waited for it to begin and it didn’t. Spoke to the front desk she said it wasn’t working, so I’d wasted a trip. Also walked back down the stairs to over hear myself being spoken about. Took me a lot of confidence to go to the gym this morning and this has knocked. Will be cancelling my membership.
Fantastic experience: Take a dip in the pool on a hot day
Fantastic experience: Very good but gym doesn't have boxing bag
Fantastic experience: Plenty of equipment to use. Friendly staff. Welcoming atmosphere. Very clean environment.
Positive experience: Yeah quite nice, I've had issues there before but they are quite cheap, so overall recommend. Also get physio from there which is great.
Negative experience: No hairdryers, not even power socket if you want to bring yours. Sauna is not working for months, no one cares. Water sometimes is very hot, sometimes cold as ice. At least stuff is friendly.
Positive experience: No hair dryers working no coffee machine water not very warm in the pool sauna not been working for weeks changing rooms could be cleaned more often a new leisure centre being built but this. should not affect facilities that the customers need now in this centre
Fantastic experience: It’s has the essentials with helpful and friendly staff. Nice pool.
Positive experience: Good, inflatable was out, kids had a good time, 2 pools, and a jacuzzi and sauna, also a gym a cafe, theres also squash courts and basketball courts, and badminton. Check website for timetables
Fantastic experience: Granson son uses it all the time very friendly. Parking is in the main carpark right in front of it
Positive experience: Coming for Latino dance class - very professional and challenging; staff at reception are very helpful.
Fantastic experience: Nice gym and swimming pool
Positive experience: Surprisingly decent gym, with relatively decent kit.
Fantastic experience: Great leisure centre to go swimming ♂️ & relax in sauna. With friendly helpful staff on hand to your needs
Negative experience: Just utterly poor service So I finished work got home and phoned around different leisure centers to take my 3 kids swimming at 5pm spoke to a gentleman who said the swimming was 6.15 till 7 so i got my 3 kids ready and off we went Got to the leasure centre and then got told in a very rude manner the swimming is not open with now 2 very upset children I basically got told by the lady on the desk well no one has spoken to me I said why would I get 3 kids ready and get them here at this time if we had not been told it was open The lady on the till was just rude was not helpful in anyway and made out it was my fault that this happened maybe for the price of the membership at this place send her on a course and teach her some manners I will not take my my family to this centre again and will also advice my family friend as clearly a potential customer you get spoken to like dirt
Positive experience: Lighting on the Badminton courts is awful, not uniform, lots of lights out, one keeps turning on and off, parts of the hall somewhat dark
Fantastic experience: nice clean and great teacher
Fantastic experience: Both my kids go swimming and absolutely love it. Facilities are nice and clean. Staff is very cooperative and helpful. Lots of parking always will be
Positive experience: Good equipment, clean showers and toilet also the staff is 5 stars - very friendly and polite people. The only reason i am giving 4 star is that the hairdryer in male changing room is only one where there should be 2 ,however the worst part is that single one is not working nearly 2 months now, which is a shame for everyone active to neglect this for so long.
Negative experience: I didn't know I have to have the kickboard to practice my lesson in the public swimming pool. The staff didn't give me the board just for a day until I buy and behaved so bad at the same time. When I approached the registration, I faced the same manner. I was really disappointed.
Fantastic experience: Went fpr the white collar boxing.. nice place but never been so cold....
Fantastic experience: very well equipped gym.
Positive experience: The classes and instructors are wonderful, but the centre regularly opens late on Sundays because the staff don’t show up on time to open it. It’s super frustrating.
Fantastic experience: Friendly, well equipped and clean gym. Love playing squash there
Negative experience: I took my kids swimming and we could only use the small pool as the main pool had the inflatable out . I was actually pretty disgusted by it , grime on the walls and the stench of stale urine wafting in from the changing rooms also the pool wasn't very warm I had to go as my kids lips went blue
Fantastic experience: Visited recently and the lifeguard Calum I believe his name was very friendly and helpful, will definetly visit again because of his kindness
Fantastic experience: New build leisure centre just perfect for the community.
Negative experience: The worst staff I ever seen in my life abbie the life guard watched my child bang he’s head in the pool and did nothing when her manager Martin ullah was approached about it he was rude and aggressive and told me my 10 year old child was a liar trying to ram it down my child’s neck that he’s telling lies and any complaints he gets them I will put them in the bin worst leisure center I have ever been in my life
Negative experience: Costumer service is 0 useless people working there not sure what are they doing there if I have to do everything through the app.
Negative experience: The worst costumer service I ever seen…. They kept over charging me £44 instead of £24 for few months and I kept chasing them to refund me my money and no one is able to help. They just ask you to send an email and wait and when I did they keep avoiding giving me reasons for the extra charges and I asked for my refund they complete ignore to answer that. I WANT MY MONEY BACK !!!
Fantastic experience: The head swimming coach Fiona handled my issue with diligence, kindness, supportive and professionalism… my daughter now has a new coach thanks to Fiona who is beyond brilliant. I would highly recommend swimming lessons at Spelthorne leisure centre … Hannah is kind, focused and really pushes my child to do her best - which enhances her love for swimming now. Thank you so much Fiona and Hannah for your kindness and patience and for adapting to the level of training my child needed. I could not recommend you both more highly. Just brilliant Update Nov22 Well well welll … since my last review my daughter has progressed. Fiona I wish I could give you a high five! My daughters swimming coach is a wonderful talented couch named Sharon. I have no words how impressed I am with her. Her attention to each child to improve their swimming is incredible and appreciated. Sharon is extremely patient and my daughter loves her swimming lessons with her and she is making great progress in Sharon’s class.
Negative experience: Cheap to get in with my boys. But it thought the pool area was disgusting. The whole place was grubby from the changing rooms to around the pool. I saw at least 3used plasters on the side. Definitely needs a freshen up and a tidy. Won’t rush back!
Negative experience: Ridiculous app, toatal headache you have to complete your details thousands of times just to get another error... don't recomand to no one
Fantastic experience: Daughter who is 4 does swimmimg lessons on Saturdays. Good value for money and amazing teachers. Would recommend
Positive experience: Great place to swim and great staff. 3 stars as the changing area and cubicles are too restrictive and appallingly diffict to use. The lockers are too small.
Positive experience: Had a good selection of equipment in the gym and the fortis room looks like a very good place to do a 30 min Hit class
Positive experience: The main pool was way too cold and the showers were extremely hot. They should find a balance on these.
Positive experience: Very good value for money. My only problem is with the maintanance staff not wiping the dust off the surfaces and arms of the machines in the gym. Can't hang my towel anywhere because there's a 3 mm thick dust layer over every each of them. Also, the lifeguards standing by the edge of the pool watching everyone non-stop is a bit off putting. Apart from feeling your poor swimming technique is being judged, you also have to make sure you don't splash them by mistake. Plus the poor kids are forced to stand up like beefeaters for long periods of time. Give them a chair at least
Fantastic experience: Joined last week.so far have done step spin body pump and combat classes. Really enjoyed the classes. The instructors were very good and people seem very friendly.
Fantastic experience: I enjoyed swimming. Staff are very helpful.
Positive experience: Lovely pool, changing rooms bearable but walls could be cleaner, lockers very outdated, sauna wonderful, showers a pain... Public and push button every 10 seconds...
Positive experience: Had a really nice swim. Have to book beforehand. Don't like shower area and toilets were freezing cold
Negative experience: I was extremely hurt when me and my Disabled wife were struggling to enter the building using the Disabled people gate instead the scanners gate. I was holding my two year old baby and my Disabled wife was holding all the swimming gears so I asked if we could use the Disabled Gate for easier access the lady on the desk decided not to let us in unless we use the scanner gate that can fit one person at the time and my wife was struggling to access as the card scanner dont work perfectly sometimes finally she managed to get in then I asked to access through the Disabled gate while I was holding my toddler but the answer was no again for no reason given from the lady. So I went back and asked the lady for an explanation she replied dont ask me ask my boss It shows she have had no answer but to admit it was discrimination against Disabled people and people from non white background. So I asked to "Boss" why he answer this is the role we can't let people thorough the Disabled gate unless on a wheelchair which is absolutely terrible some Disabled people don't use wheelchair and he proceeds saying we have to log in how many people enter the building. None of what he said makes sense other than trying to win an argument against a paying costumer. I'm paying £70 monthly not to be treated this way but to have a decent customer service. Previously I ones forgot my card and there was another lovely lady let me in through the gate I believe the lady was racist towards Disabled people and people of non white background and families im truly hurt and disappointed with the way they treated us.
Negative experience: The kids pool was freezing, everyone in there was cold and uncomfortable. We didn't stay long as we were all shivering. What made it worse was we were lied to, they said the water was 29 degrees, no chance! That's warmer than the average water temperature of the Caribbean. The general cleanliness of the pool and changing area is really poor and changing room doors barley latch shut. I have requested a refund but as I paid online they were unable to give me one onsite, so more inconvenience and time wasting with emails. It's a shame my local is a dive!.. We won't be going back. Refurb needed!
Negative experience: Don't know about the gym equipment but I had one hell of a conversational workout here the other day. Me: (politely waits for staff chat to end) Staff: Hi Me: hi, do you have to be a member to use the cafe? Staff: no Me: ok... Do I just go through the turnstiles? Staff: it's not open Me: oh... Staff:... Me: what time does it open? Staff: 3 Me: oh. Ah well. While I'm here can I ask you about the soft play? Staff: it's not here. Me: sorry? Staff: it's closed. Me: oh right, is that a temporary thing, or...? Staff: it's a fitness class now. Me: oh, ok. Thanks anyway. Staf:... Was also on her computer the whole time. Two stars given because I was aching the next day from carrying that chat.
Negative experience: Don’t go to Spelthorne Leisure Centre if you have a baby, the facilities are appalling. By the pool there is one ‘family changing cubicle’ which has a plastic table (!) to put your baby on but I couldn’t use it because an old man was in there even though there were genuinely 50 other cubicles he could have used. The only two other family cubicles had a broken pull down changing tray (dangerous) and one that was missing. There also weren’t any baby changing toilets anywhere in the building so I had to change my baby by a sink.
Fantastic experience: 3 people here help me getting muscles back again.
Positive experience: Good but concerned for cleanliness. Third morning in the main pool area I've seen the same used plaster up on the ledge bedside the sauna.
Positive experience: Standard leisure centre experience
Negative experience: Avoid at all costs, one of the most cowboy staff and there policies. I signed my daughter up for swimming lessons, I paid a lot of money for the membership which included the swim hat, certificates etc. on my first day they did not have a hat for my daughter, the canteen was closed. blablabla. during the week i called the swimming pool to book a public swim for my daughter, they refused to reserve it for her demanding me to pay even when my daughter is a member. membership staff was very rude and demanding, so I asked to cancel my membership. THEY REALLY NEED TO IMPROVE. PLEASE AVOID..
Fantastic experience: I injoyed it very much and very relaxing
Positive experience: A little run down. We had to switch changing rooms cause the doors didn't lock in some of them. We also had to switch lockers 4 time as either the pound coins coins stuck in the slots, or the wrist band to the lockers were broken. We booked online for a family slot at 11am. Good time to go, wasn't busy.
Positive experience: The staff are always lovely and happy to help. The pool can get crowded if the lanes are fully booked but it is well maintained. The gym is very well stocked with lots of cardio equipment, however only 1 bench press and 1 platform though, would love to see more as they can get very busy! The sports hall is pretty standard for a leisure centre really. Overall very good value for money in my opinion.
Positive experience: Great facilities, ideally situated and with plenty of parking. The people are friendly, down to earth and helpful. There is a huge main hall for Basketball, Badminton, Volleyball and events, such as Wrestling or for hire. There are Squash courts, a swimming pool with spa, a soft play area a large well equipped gym as well as a reasonable sized cafe with meeting area.
Fantastic experience: Great place, good facilities.
Fantastic experience: Great place to take your kids.
Fantastic experience: I love it. Best thing I've ever done. Thank u to everyone at Everyone
Fantastic experience: All good this morning even Roger smiled
Fantastic experience: Excellent Covid-19 safe facilities - such a shame you have to shutdown for another period of time when you have obviously worked hard to keep everyone safe. See you again after #lockdown2
Positive experience: Very clean and safe here. Water a bit chilly...but a lovely peaceful swim.
Positive experience: Good , staff are helpful swimming pool changing rooms need updating.
Positive experience: Social distancing and directional signs everywhere. Courteous and friendly staff.
Positive experience: Gym is well organised during the pandemic.
Fantastic experience: Join the que ....very adequate for a hindrance free "do my own thing" workout. 50 mins
