Our comment from FitFit UK about Active Leicester - Cossington Street Sports Centre:
Welcome to Active Leicester - Cossington Street Sports Centre, a community-focused venue offering a variety of sports and fitness activities in Leicester. Many users have noted a strong community vibe and a friendly staff that enhances the overall experience.
- Cleanliness: The swimming pool is frequently praised for its cleanliness, and many find the facilities well-maintained.
- Swimming Lessons: The swimming instructors, particularly Sachin, have received commendations for their teaching methods and dedication to the children.
- Modern Facilities: The centre has undergone refurbishment, boasting modern equipment and a pleasant atmosphere.
- Community Spirit: Many users appreciate the sense of community at the centre, making it a welcoming place for locals.
However, some aspects need improvement:
- Gym Equipment: Several reviews mention a lack of sufficient gym equipment, leading to a cramped and uncomfortable workout environment.
- Customer Service: A number of users have expressed dissatisfaction with long wait times for phone inquiries and instances of rude reception staff.
- Noise Levels: There have been complaints regarding loud music during classes, which detracts from the workout experience.
- Parking: Limited parking space has been noted as a challenge for visitors, especially during peak times.
Overall, while Active Leicester - Cossington Street Sports Centre has several strengths, there are areas that could benefit from attention to enhance the visitor experience.

Active Leicester - Cossington Street Sports Centre: Opinions
Negative experience: Talking about the gym There is hardly any equipment due to them using up more than half the space on cardio machines and a big studio hardly anyone uses. The main issue with the gym is the middle aged men who can’t seem to stop staring at everyone 24/7 resulting in a very uncomfortable environment for everyone else There are hardly any women in the gym due to this issue. They stare and treat the women like it’s they’re an exhibit at the zoo Overall, very uncomfortable and cramped environment with hardly and equiplment
Negative experience: Been calling for 2 days no answer on phone for 30 minutes not happy
Negative experience: I called the Active Leicester reception for an enquiry and was left waiting for over 40 minutes without getting an answer. It's incredibly frustrating and unprofessional to be ignored for such a long time.
Fantastic experience: Good
Positive experience: One of the best communiti center in Leicester
Positive experience: Very good play area
Positive experience: I have been a member for a year now. The facility is generally good all over but, lately, quite a few people have stopped using the facility somehow. A treadmill has been removed lately which has not gone well with gym users. The loud music during group activities is another issue which people are not happy about. Normally I have to wear heaing aids for my hearing but i find the music loud even without wearing the hearing aids. I have, personally, spoken to the trainers on a couple of occasions but it has not made a difference. I understand they need music but it does not have to be at the expense of other gym users. Today, I had to report to the office where the gentleman at the counter took my details saying he will report further and for some reason took my photo. Not quite sure why a photo is required when he had called up my records on his screen. Wait and see. Edited 16/08/24 Nothing had changed so next week I went to reception asking for the name and email address of the person overseeing all Active Leicester Gyms. The guy at reception phoned someone and a person (who I believe is the Supervisor) came over immediately. He gave me the general email address but I insisted on getting the overseer's details. He gave the details saying if I wrote to the overseer then I will probably not receive a response for weeks as he is so busy......I left it at that.....I am glad that, even without writing to the overseer, from next day the music was and has been bearable and the type of music and beats has also changed. I have noticed that, now when there are group activities the trainers do not bring any additional music equipment. It no longer feels like working out in a night club, the music used to be that loud. Edited 25/12/24 For a while things had got better but did not take long before loud music started again and AC temperature setting reduced to 15 degrees. The name of the person who oversees all Active Leicester branches given to me was Jamir Pryor. I emailed him and he replied saying all members had been spoken to about noise, only Corporate approved should be playing at all Active Leicester facilities and that AC should be set at 21 degrees. Few weeks on I had to email him again about loud music. His response now was that the choice of music was popular with the activity groups and will not change (totally ignoring the loudness and non Corporated approved music). Couple of weeks on as I walked in the music was so loud I had to speak a person at the desk. His response There is group activities and the music was not loud. Emailed Jamie Pryor. Got an immediate response from him saying I had spoken to him saying if I found the music loud I shoul attend at fifferent times. WHAT? (So I wasn't given derails of the person overseeing all Active Leicester facilities but of someone at Cossington Street). Next day I phoned the Council. A person took details and passed it to Corporate Complaints. They acknowledged and followed up later saying all trainers had been made aware.......Since then both temperature and noise levels have been acceptable. I wonder what Jamie Proyor has to say now. Actually, I have not seen him since I had contacted the Council.
Negative experience: Didn't go there
Fantastic experience: Love play area . Specially for kids
Negative experience: Poor customer service!! On the phone in a queue for over an hour trying to chase my sons lost shoes from a school swimming trip. Spent over 30 minutes being first in queue with nobody answering. Doubt it’s due to the influx of people more like the phone being ignored. Absolutely disgraceful.
Negative experience: New management to bad .not good at all .the way of talking really bad.
Fantastic experience: Love this pool, clean most of the times..cubicles for shower and changing and proper hair dryers..wat more can one ask for
Negative experience: Keep on charging the same fee/month even in case of cancellations. Ringing the membership phone line goes to an automated message saying "the line is cancelled due to shortage of staff, email your query to ....." If they don't have staff to answer a phone line, how can one expect a reply to email?
Positive experience: I prefer these places to join on vaule for money, health clubs are very dear and your often in six months contract which i don't like this looks cheap and cheerful for anyone to join and get fit and make new friends.
Positive experience: Did an aqua aerobics class here. Very clean and upkeep good.
Positive experience: Not interested IN THIS
Negative experience: Very unorganised and Jamie's the general manager is extremely rude this place has lost its community spirit
Negative experience: Disgusting place pool's dirty plus they don't stand up to bullying with one of the victims me and then the lifeguards kicked me out for no reason if I was you I would not go here
Positive experience: Swimming lessons great. Reception staff useless
Fantastic experience: Lovely pool , a really good size
Negative experience: The swimming pool is pleasant, but the receptionist, specifically an individual of Indian descent, displays rudeness in her interactions. I want to clarify that my concern is not rooted in racism or prejudice towards individuals from South Asia. However, regardless of her background, it would have been more appropriate for her to communicate in a polite manner instead of loudly calling us out in front of others. We arrived slightly earlier than our designated time, and she could have handled the situation with more courtesy. The incident caused embarrassment as everyone's attention was drawn to us. Considering her role as a receptionist, it is important for her to maintain a level of politeness as she represents the image of the facility.
Positive experience: Nice and modern but not good for parking like ayelstone, braunstone and evington
Fantastic experience: This review is for Sachin and his efforts for Cossington pool. Iv take my kids to many swimming lessons in many different places but sachins style of teaching is different he’s trained my kid’s well lots of people I know praise him and his efforts for kids I told him that he can do lot better in private clubs why don’t you join and his answer was I will earn the money but I will upset many children parents I will remain in this place as long as I will teach swimming.
Fantastic experience: Lovely swimming pool clean and very friendly staff
Fantastic experience: For every reason it is good
Negative experience: There should be free swimming lessons, so nobody would drown that Haa happened last time.
Fantastic experience: Very good swimming place. They have men swimming every Sunday so I go. Very fun outing. Subscribe to MRAsian_Editz on YouTube
Negative experience: Bad bad bad. Do not recommend. VERY dirty
Positive experience: Very good
Negative experience: Very poor service they book private section on general swimming day without any info online and any notice to regular members
Negative experience: Very poor service! They have made the swimming portal but it wasn't updated for last 5 months for my daughter and 3 months for my son. They both have same teacher. My daughter and son both are extremely disappointed as they have competition to each other, who becomes first. Most of the time, teacher comes without any tablet so how can she remember all the children's name and their attendance in different stage. The situation is hilarious as I talked to supervisor and he assured me that the data has been updated but still disappointed . If there is 0 rating so I will definitely use 0 as waste of my money and time.
Fantastic experience: Nice I like the shorts drier
Fantastic experience: Great pool, lively and homely feel for the community. Swimming lessons are always on, staff pleasant and helpful. Can be hectic trying to find a spare room to get changed but the layout works; parents can watch from the sidelines on seating and it is generally quite warm for those swimming. Good community atmosphere here and a centre of activity for locals.
Positive experience: Parking is a bloody Nightmare, so get there early, very warm inside too. Have to ware overshoes now too. But my three children are learning to swim really well, so good teachers when they actually teach, you get a lot of cancellations
Positive experience: Sports Center is cleaner compared to the area. Leicester city Council can do better.
Positive experience: Really well maintained and nice place for swimming, the gym can be improved though.
Fantastic experience: Nice atmosphere Helpful staff. Feel motivated
Fantastic experience: Friendly staff and a gorgeous, large, victorian pool.
Negative experience: The parking around the area is pants, especially if your a coach driver, they park were ever they want and block the roads up
Fantastic experience: Nice staff, very clean. Timetable is a bit restrictive.
Positive experience: Very nice atmosphere everyone gets on with there favorite machine. And readily available to go to many varieties of Gym exercises.
Negative experience: When talking about the gym, the place is very nice but the equipment is not enough. There is no straight barbell for biceps. Worst place for Gym. I wasted my money. Waiting is too high for your exercise lack of equipment.
Fantastic experience: Nice facility - not too modern but they have everything you need.. hairdryer, dryer for clothes etc.. Reasonable price and the staff are very welcoming.
Positive experience: The pool water was quite cold
Positive experience: Good workout place- BUT showers NOT kept clean all the time. Mostly unhygienic.
Fantastic experience: Great lane swimming in the early morning session. 30m pool. Decent showers. I'm enjoying over 60s active membership for £10 a month. Swimming 4 times a walk.
Positive experience: Nice and quiet, so I had a lovely swim. The staff were very friendly and courteous. I was able to park my mobility scooter in reception, thus avoiding the long walk there and back - so thank you to the staff. Will be going more often now.
Fantastic experience: Good pool and nets
Fantastic experience: Great facilities with affordable pricing. Staff are friendly and knowledgeable. Highly recommend to anyone looking to attend the gym or swimming pool.
Fantastic experience: Lovely friendly staff .got what I need to do.
Fantastic experience: Staff are brilliant and friendly. Put us at ease straight away. Looking forward to going back to Leon's pump class. Parking is a bit of a nightmare but centre is clean and modern.
Positive experience: Newly refurbished so much better than old. Gym water fountain needs a new filter!!!
Negative experience: long call waiting times , no one is there to answer calls.
Positive experience: Reception and lifeguard very friendly. Pool not so clean, clumps of hair rolling about on the bottom and some locks broken on changing room doors.
Fantastic experience: Lovely, welcoming staff! They have a ladies only area so a win for me.
Fantastic experience: Nice
Positive experience: Swimming teachers are awesome
Positive experience: I take my children for swimming lessons to Cossington, very hardworking instructors, pleased with their way of teaching. Only downfall is limited parking.
Fantastic experience: Loved the sympathetic refurb. Victorian fearures still in evidence :-(
Fantastic experience: Completely refurbished. New equipment. Joined today, and can't wait to take full advantage of my membership
Fantastic experience: Leisure centre at Cossington Park has been refurbished, its much better and bigger very clean environment and very spacy with all new machines. Parking available on site and surrounding areas. Staffs are very friendly and helpful. Must book your 1 hr slot. Highly recommended. A must visit.
Fantastic experience: Large ground with a very nice play area. All the play apparatus here are unique and I have never seen them anywhere else. Parking space might not be enough as most of it might be used up by the swimming centre next door so keep your car at home if you can
Fantastic experience: A Brilliant new facility. Modern Equipment, spacious. Friendly staff.
Fantastic experience: 30 meters pool amazing, wish we had more in Leicester. Staff are friendly and not rude.
Positive experience: As a competitive swimmer this pool is annoying as the pool is 30mtrs in length. This makes training sets impossible.
Positive experience: Keep up the good service
Negative experience: Beacause of covid members are Not allowed to take shower which i find unhygienic...
Positive experience: Nice pool. Lessons available
Fantastic experience: Absolutely fabulous place! It may be old but it's gold. The staff are friendly, you feel relaxed while exercising. Really missed this place recently!
Negative experience: I no go here now as unable to use pool for swim. Too many aunties and uncles use for sit and talk only
Positive experience: Before Covid 19 was good Only concern is Parking. Very less spaces for Car Park... after COVID not good response from the Team
Fantastic experience: It is near my heart.
Negative experience: The lady in reception is so rude, my husband tried to go and watch our daughter swim he explained she was very nervous and she was raising her voice and telling him parents seem to this they can just show up and they cant, she then made him leave. Absolutely no need for her to be so rude, maybe she shouldn't be in a customer facing role if she has no people skills. I won't be visiting the centre again that's for sure.
Positive experience: Clean swimming pool
Positive experience: Filthy and dirty pool
Fantastic experience: Good facility
Fantastic experience: Amazing
Fantastic experience: Love swimming
Negative experience: Gym needs a refurbishment, changing rooms are terrible
Positive experience: Ok place for small families taking 2-3people but the place is so small.
Fantastic experience: Great place for swimming,,staff amazing
Fantastic experience: Best vegetarian food ever
Positive experience: Playground for lots of events
Positive experience: Decent place to go play sports like badminton but can get crowded at times.
Fantastic experience: Much better after they refurbished, reception is better and have lockers now.
Fantastic experience: Great park for the kids lots to do for them toilets always open summer the park is full
Fantastic experience: Go to the gym on Fridays very enjoyable.
Negative experience: rubbish not even clean don't go there
Negative experience: Floors are bit slippery for racket sports
Fantastic experience: Stay healthy and fit @ Cossington Gym&Swimming centre
Fantastic experience: Good place to lose weight
Negative experience: Worst for management! SWS have been using its facilities since 1994 and yet, we're still treated like cattle!
Positive experience: Good
Positive experience: Ok.
Positive experience: Split building sort of campus and limited parking. But if you can cope with that, there are plenty of healthy activity choices including a fascinating sauna facility - which is the only somewhat pricey option.
Negative experience: Office staff can be really rude.
Positive experience: Pool was clean and attendants friendly enough. Even tho it's been upgraded recently the changing facilities are showing age
Positive experience: I was disappointed as the swimming teacher didn't show up for the first lesson but then my son enjoyed his very first lesson this week. So I am adding 1 more star.
Negative experience: The public swimming area could do with a major improvement.
Fantastic experience: Very bad
