The Washington Mayfair Hotel: Opinions
Fantastic experience: We were very pleased! After a little concern based on some reviews we read - all we can say is don’t pay attention to a single negative review! The moment we arrived we were welcomed by attentive and friendly staff. We were provided an early checkin and complimentary room upgrade. The rooms were kept impeccably clean by staff and all our needs were met promptly and with grace. The location is fantastic and quiet at night. We will definitely be staying here again and making this our first choice for return trips. Thank you for a wonderful stay!
Negative experience: I was advised by staff member call Nobil that the policy of this hotel is to refuse TAXI DRIVERS to use the toilets. Shame on you, these drivers bring customers to you 24 hours, and you refuse them to use the toilet.
Positive experience: Dated, with only a few floors renovated the remaining are far from it. What’s most humorous is telling them about the state of their hotel is always met with great surprise. Almost like a “oh we had no idea!” Still the staff is kind and I think they know the state of their hotel is well beyond substandard and they try to do what they can. Despite that the location is prime and makes the hotel somewhat tolerable.
Negative experience: Employees who work in this hotel are very rude and unfriendly. Rooms are ok but a bit overpriced. Can’t get over the hostility from the reception and doormen though.
Positive experience: Service was great and staff are friendly but for a Mayfair hotel the interior is dated and tired.
Fantastic experience: A wonderful location with the romantic atmosphere of Victorian England, with a very kind, even warm-hearted team and a completely acceptable price/comfort ratio! I definitely recommend it, given the existing alternative options in the region, unfortunately with double and even triple prices, absolutely not covering the content...
Positive experience: The hotel service is nice but the pillows are very bad and there is no bidet and I wish there was more variety in breakfast and the prices are good and special thanks to the I hope all the extra beds are changed. staff
Negative experience: Staff very rude, doormen horrible rooms stink, aged hotel! Very expensive would not recommend. Ok location even taxi driver did not recommend
Fantastic experience: Stunning location. Comfortable rooms. Great staff
Negative experience: A Real Learning Experience regarding customer service which seemed a distant second priority behind profitability. Lesson #1. Prepaid breakfast. • If you miss a breakfast, too bad, you paid for it, NO CREDIT on the next meal. ••Learning: NEVER pay upfront for anything at this hotel. Lesson #2. Bar Tender Short Pours. • If you order a double, you get 1¼ shots. ••Learning: If you desire a double, order a single, have Yesh pour it, then ask for another shot before he rings it up. These may seem minor in total costs, but they create a set of real examples that could destroy an otherwise healthy business. I would have rated it a 5, but these examples rate it "barely" [2] stars. Rooms and facilities tend to be the same everywhere. Customer Service is the primary differentiator.

Positive experience: Very old hotel. Rooms are same. But great location.

Negative experience: I walked into the lobby and two concierge were talking and watched me enter look around and then one very slowly grab my bag and moved it 2 m to the wall and pointed to reception I walked to reception the young women was polite but gave me the wrong check in details to complete and had copied my passport to another persons (an American) after I completed it I asked her again about it and only then did she realise the name didn’t match the passport or my booking After much discussion and she was very apologetic I got my room key I walked back over to my bag grab it and walked across the lobby - the 2 men watched me then I asked where is the lift and they pointed to another door the other way Well what about done help ? None offered they continued their conversation - I struggled to the door got thru it and into the lift - I arrive at the 6th floor - looking for my room another staff member was there and pointed to a small set of stairs telling me you are down there - again no help so with my suitcase I struggled to my room The hall way was old and outdated - apparently they are renovating it but not yet The room however large and pleasant everything new - my room looked out onto a whole lot of offices and they could all see in my room - there was no sheer curtain so either you had to have the curtains drawn or everyone could see you ….seriously get some sheer curtains ! I went to have a cup of tea and both the cups and kettle were dirty - I actually took my cup of tea downstairs to show receptionist it’s was that bad On my return they had replaced both the kettle and the cups - thank goodness No mini bar and no conditioner - so after having a shower and washing my hair my hair looked like I had just got out of bed ! Seriously This is not a cheap hotel but I was far from impressed - even low cost hotels help people with their bags and offer service and are polite I felt that there was no warmth or service culture in this hotel - no one seamed to care or offer any service to the customers I didn’t have breakfast so can’t tell you anything about that - good news is that with a bit of training and some enthusiasm this could be a good hotel ….a few changes could make a big difference As a solo female traveller it felt quite uncomfortable and a little unsafe and I simply didn’t feel welcome REVIEWED after reading response I am not sure what footage you were watching but it was not me ! I did not get any help with my bags on my way into hotel and only got answered by staff after I asked for help ! Point being here is that you could address the concerns and take action OR sadly as you have done take aim at the constructive review - your response states more about the hotel which is clearly lacking service and responsibility for it
Hello Sandy, Thank you very much for taking the time to provide detailed feedback regarding your stay at the Washington Mayfair Hotel. We take your comments seriously and have conducted a thorough investigation, reviewing employee actions during your stay and verifying each detail through CCTV footage. So imagine our confusion as we reviewed the CCTV to see the concierge offering to take your luggage outside the hotel; another escorted you to the lift and held the door open after you checked in. He too offered to help with your luggage. Once you reached your floor, a member of the room service team guided you to your room and assisted you with the luggage down the stairs. This is so different from your description that we wondered if you may have been thinking of a different hotel. However, we are by no means perfect, and I am sorry for any confusion on check-in; this has been addressed with the team member concerned. As has the issue with the cups and kettle, which were replaced with new. Otherwise, in common with many hotels, we no longer provide minibar service as we find out guests prefer to buy their own items from nearby shops, so they were removed several years ago. Conditioner is available on request but not automatically provided. You were kind enough to give us high marks for the room and location, but we clearly failed on the service element, which is a pity because we usually score high on our friendliness and service. It is something we need to work on to ensure we are providing consistently good service, so we are grateful for your feedback and will learn from it. If you would like to discuss your stay further or give us a chance to make amends by returning to the hotel, please contact me on [email protected]. Thank you again, and I hope we will see you again soon.
Negative experience: Staff here don’t have the decency to let a lady use the washroom here.
Negative experience: This place is totally not a 4 star hotel: old, dirty, staff is not polite. I booked a room with breakfast included and when I arrived for breakfast they told me that they got some issues and it was not possibile to eat but they didn’t remove the cost of breakfast from the room. Overall price is very high for everything and the quality is poor. The towels of the toilet were dirty and with holes… unacceptable! But above all the staff is unpleasant. I will never come back.
Hello Giulia, Thank you for sharing your feedback with us. We sincerely apologize for the experience you had during your recent stay at the Washington Mayfair Hotel . It is disheartening to learn that we fell short of your expectations, especially in areas that are so important to a comfortable and enjoyable stay. We are particularly concerned about the issues you mentioned, including the cleanliness of the room amenities , breakfast, and the quality of service from our staff. This is certainly not the standard we strive to maintain, and we take your comments very seriously. We would greatly appreciate the opportunity to discuss your experience further and address any concerns you may have. Our Front Office Manager at The Washington Mayfair Hotel has sent you an email to connect and discuss the details with you.
Fantastic experience: Arrived the day on London bridge attack conducted via radical Islamist terrorists. A relaxing and quiet place
Hello Smile, Thank you for taking the time to write a review. We're glad you enjoyed your stay at the Washington Mayfair Hotel London and found our location great.
Positive experience: This location was GREAT! That is definitely what drove the price up. We came with another group so had 2 hotel rooms. Our room service was great and we received water bottles, turn down service, and fresh bathroom amenities each day. Though our friends did not receive this and did not have the 'do not disturb' up. All in all, I would still recommend this for the location if you're comfortable with the price. There's a Cafe Nero right outside, as well as a Tesco (convenient store). And it's 5 minutes from the Green Park metro station and about 15-20 minutes from Buckingham Palace.
Hello Alexis, Thank you for taking the time to write a review. We're glad you enjoyed your stay at the Washington Mayfair Hotel London and found our location great. We apologise for the inconsistency in room service for your friends. We'll be sure to investigate this matter and ensure that all guests receive the same level of service. We hope to welcome you back in the future!
Fantastic experience: We had a great experience at the hotel the location is in heart of mayfair the staff is super friendly I had a huge terrace specially deep was very helpful to arrange everything and Miraj at the front desk was very helpful I look forward to come again soon
Hello Aamir, Thank you for your review! We're happy to hear that you had a fantastic experience at The Washington Mayfair Hotel. It's wonderful to know that Deep and Miraj went above and beyond to make your stay special. We look forward to welcoming you back soon!
Positive experience: A very pleasant stay overall , while the property is an old one, the doors squeak and the bathroom rattles, the lovely demeanor of the staff and the thorough work of the room cleaning team made me choose this hotel as my next one when I come to London
Hello Talal, Thank you for your thoughtful review. We're glad to hear you had a wonderful stay and that our staff and room-cleaning team left an excellent impression. We appreciate your opinion on the room's condition and will take it into consideration as we work to improve. We hope to welcome you back on your future visit to London!
Fantastic experience: I must apologize for the delay in writing this review as I was traveling and just returned to India . Despite the delay, I felt compelled to share my wonderful experience at Washington Mayfair. From the moment I stepped into the lobby, I was greeted with warmth and professionalism by the front office staff. It was truly refreshing to be welcomed so warmly, and I must extend a special mention to DEEP at reception, whose friendly demeanor added a personal touch to my arrival. The entire front line staffs including DEEP & ANDREIA, went above and beyond to ensure that my stay was comfortable and hassle-free. Their courtesy and support made me feel valued as a guest, and I am sincerely grateful for their assistance throughout my stay. The room provided was not only comfortable but also spacious, offering ample space to relax and unwind after a long day of exploring the city. Moreover, the hotel's location is unbeatable. Situated centrally, it was just a short 5-minute walk to all the major tourist attractions of London, making it incredibly convenient for sightseeing. In conclusion, my stay was truly delightful, thanks to the exceptional service provided by the front office team and the comfort of the accommodations. I am already eagerly looking forward to my next visit in November this year and cannot wait to reconnect with the wonderful staff who made my stay so memorable. Until then, see you soon and god bless.

Dear Ayaan, Thank you for taking the time to share your review of your experience at The Washington Mayfair Hotel. We are glad to hear that our teams' exceptional customer service was noticed. We are looking forward to your next stay with us. Sincerely, The Washington Mayfair Hotel
Positive experience: Not a luxury hotel, Poor hygiene in the corridor, you could sense the smell while walking down. Lifts were small with broken buttons. Small rooms but reasonable for a short stay within vicinity as prices of hotels are high in this area. My best part was seeing a TESCO express in front of hotel along with a mediterranean restaurant (Food was just OK) , That made it easier for me to buy necessary stuff for my stay.
Dear Jaward Zaman, Thank you for your review. We greatly appreciate your feedback as it helps us improve our service. Our Housekeeping team is dedicated to maintaining the highest standards of cleanliness. Corridors are cleaned twice daily, and our management team performs multiple daily inspections to verify that all cleanliness standards are consistently met. Concerning the lifts, we would like to assure you that all lifts are fully operational and undergo regular maintenance checks. To date, there have been no reported issues with the lifts, and we are committed to addressing any operational needs promptly to ensure the safety and convenience of our guests. Our bedrooms offer significantly more space than most hotel rooms in central London, therefore we were surprised by this remark. Your feedback is invaluable to us, and we thank you for taking the time to share your experience. If there are any additional concerns or suggestions you have, please do not hesitate to reach out to us.
Negative experience: Booked this room for an executive client- report came back to say 'NEVER BOOK THIS HOTEL AGAIN'. Rooms had a foul smell Windows didn't close Walls had sections you could see through to the concrete through metal grills. No wardrobe or place to hang clothes TV didn't work. Complained about first room and the new room was just as bad.
Dear E G, Thank you for sharing your feedback. We are truly sorry to hear that your client's experience did not meet their expectations. Our housekeeping team works diligently to maintain our rooms to the highest standards, ensuring they are clean and welcoming for all our guests. We are surprised by your comments, as they do not align with the typical characteristics of our rooms. Should a guest experience any issues with their room, we encourage them to inform us immediately so we can promptly address the matter with our team. Once again, thank you for your valuable feedback.
Fantastic experience: Lovely local hotel used by colleagues from our other offices when they come to London for office visits
Dear Vishal, Thank you for taking the time to leave a review. We are glad that The Washington Mayfair is the preferred hotel for your colleagues. We look forward to welcoming you all again soon.
Fantastic experience: Awesome service! Definitely do it again. Special recommendation to Godwin and the food and beverage team. Really made the stay more comfortable
Dear Emmanuel Thank you for taking the time to share your experience at The Washington Mayfair Hotel. We are pleased to hear that you had a great stay and appreciated the team's helpfulness. We hope to have you staying with us again soon.
Negative experience: I stayed at this hotel for a week and to think this hotel charged £320/night is really astounding. For a price like this you would expect top class service and luxury amenities - this was far from reality. I arrived at the hotel before midnight and there was no offer of help with my luggage, I had to haul them up myself. £100 deposit at check in seems somewhat unnecessary also… The room itself is extremely outdated and extremely small; the furniture hasn’t been renovated in what appears to be decades and the curtains have easily visible stains and holes in them. The air conditioning is an extremely old piece of equipment in my opinion and could only drop to 19 degrees Celsius, which does not keep the room cold at all. The daily housekeeping provides the most basic of cleaning services. The bathroom was fairly modern but the bathtub was extremely small and the shower head showed signs of limescale build up. The third-party Laundry provided they employ are laughable. I provided housekeeping with four items that needed washing, I specifically mentioned that three items had stains on and they assured me the provider would remedy this. However, when I received the laundry back these three items still had the stains on. They only offered to take back one of these items to remedy, which they did, but still I was charged for the entirety of the laundry although two of the items were still not wearable. in conclusion I would not recommend this hotel at all even though it’s location is somewhat convenient. There are several other hotels in very close proximity that I would recommend including The May Fair Radisson Collection.
Dear Taman, Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback regarding your recent stay at our hotel. We sincerely apologize for the inconveniences and shortcomings you experienced during your visit. We deeply regret that our service and amenities did not meet your expectations. Providing a high level of service and comfort to our guests is our top priority, and we are truly sorry that we fell short in your case. Please rest assured that your comments about the lack of assistance with luggage, the outdated room furnishings, and the condition of the air conditioning and curtains have been noted. We are currently in the process of planning a comprehensive refurbishment of our guest rooms and common areas to ensure a more modern and comfortable stay for our guests in the near future. We also apologize for the issues you encountered with our housekeeping and third-party laundry services. We have already addressed these concerns with our housekeeping team and our laundry service provider to prevent such occurrences in the future. We appreciate your understanding regarding the £100 deposit, which is a standard procedure to cover any incidental charges during your stay. However, we will review our policies to ensure they are as guest-friendly as possible. Thank you once again for your honest feedback. We value your comments and are committed to making the necessary improvements to provide a better experience for all our guests.
Positive experience: Nice clean big rooms. The beds was to soft in my opinion. Great loacation.
Dear Markus Thank you for taking the time to write a review. We hope to welcome you back in the near future.
Negative experience: Would not return. Here on business trip and frequently in London... Assistant not done great booking this one! Reception staff rude and look like they hate it! A smile costs nothing.
Dear Jen, Thank you for your feedback, we take your concerns seriously and are always looking for ways to improve our service. We understand the importance of a smooth and efficient check-in process and since your stay we have hired additional staff to reduce waiting times and enhance overall efficiency. Refurbishment of the hotel is also planned for the near future, which we believe will further improve your experience. We greatly value your feedback, and we sincerely thank you for bringing these matters to our attention. We look forward to the chance to welcome you back in the future
Negative experience: How can this be considered a luxury hotel??? Or a 4 star hotel??? £260 per night for the cheapest room and you get a room in a hotel which is stuck in the 80s in a bad way. Creaking floors, very worn out furniture, old carpets everywhere. The entire hotel is worn out basly and it cant justify in any way or form the claims or the price. At least it looks clean. Photos on the website are far from reality! Appalling experience...
Dear Nick, Thank you for taking the time to provide your feedback regarding your recent stay with us. We genuinely appreciate your comments, as they help us to continually improve our services and facilities. We are truly sorry to hear that your experience did not meet your expectations, particularly regarding the condition of the rooms and the overall appearance of the hotel. We are pleased to inform you that we have taken your feedback to heart and is planning to scheduled a comprehensive refurbishment of our hotel, which will address these very concerns. We greatly value your feedback, and we sincerely thank you for bringing these matters to our attention. We look forward to the chance to welcome you back in the future.
Fantastic experience: The hotel is in a great location, close to the green park station, and coffee shops/groceries in the front. The hotel is a little bit old but feel like it used to be a luxury hotel. The room was fine, decent space and beds were fine. Absolutely nothing to complain but I stayed only for one night.
Dear Leonardo, Thank you for taking the time to write a review. We are pleased you had a great stay. We hope to welcome you again in the future.
Negative experience: I don't understand how this is a luxury hotel or where the 4 star rating comes from. The pictures they have posted are misleading. They make it look like the rooms are really nice and luxurious but they aren't. The first thing I noticed was that the floors are really bouncy and squeaky. I was scared that the floor was going to crack open. The doors to the rooms slam shut and make a really loud noise. The room we stayed in was very gross and a lot of the furniture was damaged. There was a mirror in the room that was damaged, it looked like someone ripped part of the mirror off and then they just glued the piece back on. Why not just replace it with a new one? Also the ceiling had a lot of cracks on it. The curtains had weird stains on them and the wall art as well. We flipped the mattress over on the bed and found a whole bunch of hair and small trash. The walls are really thin, I could hear people showering and using the toilet. The floor was really squeaky and loud, it was hard not to make a noise at night when walking around. The only good thing about the hotel was the cleaning staff, they were always nice and friendly. Some of the front desk women were nice and some looked like they hated their jobs. I'm not sure about the the little men in uniform. I thought they were suppose to greet people and help with luggage but I never saw them do that. Most of the time I just saw them staring at people. Based on my experience, I don't recommend this hotel. I give it a thumbs down.
Dear Ariana, We deeply regret any inconvenience you may have experienced during your recent visit. At this time, our hotel is undergoing refurbishment aimed at elevating the quality of our rooms and facilities to better meet the needs and expectations of our valued guests, such as yourself. In addition to physical upgrades, our dedicated staff members are continuously trained to provide outstanding customer service, ensuring that each guest receives personalized attention and assistance throughout their stay. Your satisfaction is of the utmost importance to us, and we are committed to working tirelessly to exceed your expectations. We appreciate your patience and understanding during this period of transformation, and we look forward to welcoming you back to experience our enhanced accommodations and services in the near future.
Negative experience: Came for afternoon tea and were very disappointed. The pictures on the virgin experience site were nothing compared to the real thing. Cakes were dry and seemed shop bought. Service was poor especially as we were the only guests!
Negative experience: Location its perfect which is the only decent thing about this hotel. Day to day staff are very friendly and very polite, management not so much, the attitude is vile. Considering the price point I dont really see anything in terns of luxury. I was fortunate enough to be put in a room thats been recently renovated ( something I was worried about due to previous reviews ) but it is still very average considering it is 300 GBP per night. Restaurant is terrible with very minimal options, drinks and food stop at 2300 hrs and I found myself at the local Tesco express everyday. I asked room service for apple juice and was charged almost 8 GBP as a service fee, which is criminal if you ask me. Not bad if you want to stay in Mayfair and are not in the hotel very much. Otherwise, I wouldn't come back here.
Dear Zsheir, Thank you for taking the time to share your detailed feedback about your recent stay with us. We truly value your comments as they help us identify areas for improvement and ensure a better experience for all our guests. We are pleased to hear that you found our location convenient and appreciated the friendliness and politeness of staff. While we are glad you stayed in one of our recently renovated rooms, we are sorry to hear that it still fell short of your expectations. Your comments about our restaurant offerings and room service charges are taking very seriously. Your feedback is invaluable to us, and we thank you for bringing these issues to our attention and assure you that corrective action will be taken to avoid reoccurrence. Thank you once again for your feedback.
Fantastic experience: Very helpful and nice staff. Comfy rooms and excellent location in Mayfair.
Dear Ilse, Thank you for taking the time to leave a lovely review. We are pleased to hear that you had great stay with us. We hope to welcome you back in the near future.
Positive experience: We came here as a large family for an extended family gathering. I cannot comment on the rooms as I personally didn't stay overnight. We booked a cream tea for a large group which was lovely. Friendly service, especially Godwin, who was very patient & helpful, thank you Godwin! We pre-booked dinner in the restaurant because the choice of menu shown on the hotel website suited our large party of various tastes. Unfortunately, once seated at our table we were given the room service/bar menu, having been told this was the evening meal menu! We questioned this & explained we booked after seeing their al a carte menu online. The waitress confirmed the menu online did not exist! We left & ate elsewhere. This was clearly a 'bait & switch'. We were 'baited' in by a non existing online menu, then 'switched' once seated. Very unprofessional & unacceptable. We hope their IT dept has removed the menu from their website to prevent future customers from being mislead. It's a shame to leave a negative review & we hope this feedback will help The Washington Mayfair improve in the future.
Negative experience: Little weazle on the door, con artist, tries getting money out of cab drivers asking if they're tony. Avoid this crooked hotel.
Dear Harris, We place immense value on feedback concerning our staff, particularly our concierge team, who undergo rigorous training to ensure exceptional customer service for all guests and visitors. We regret any disappointment stemming from interactions regarding transportation. Our procedures and training protocols are meticulously followed to ensure that taxi services are promptly arranged when needed. Additionally, we provide our guests with detailed information, to confirm the authenticity of the taxis dispatched. Your feedback is instrumental in our commitment to continuously improving our services, and we appreciate your input.
Positive experience: I once satyed in this hotel for one night November 2023 and found the experience quite pleasant. Now, however, it has shifted for the worse. The overall stay was quite underwhelming, with old decor and overall poorly-kept condition. The blinds were dirty, the wind was rushing through the closed windows. The food's whatever. The only thing that saves this joint for me is the staff, which were super helpful. Damn shame they got rid of the old bartender , one with an accent. He was quite a conversation partner, sharing my obsession with alcohol haha. Hope he's doin' ok.
Thank you for your feedback. We apologise if your experience at our hotel did not meet the high standards you've come to expect from us during your previous stays. Please know that our current refurbishment efforts are aimed at enhancing our facilities to better serve our guests, and we regret any inconvenience this may have caused you. Your feedback is valuable to us, and we appreciate your understanding during this transitional period. Regarding our staff member, we did not part ways with our longstanding bartender; rather, he retired after dedicating over 20 years of service. While we were saddened to bid farewell, we're delighted to hear he's doing well in retirement. We maintain regular contact with him and cherish our ongoing relationship. Rest assured, we'll ensure he receives your feedback. Thank you for your understanding and for keeping us informed.
Negative experience: Like a left over 70s motel - sorely in need of refurbishment, greeting by cringe worthy music more expected to accompany an adult movie. Rude, unpleasant staff - concierge (elderly chap) was particularly ghastly, wasting time and going out of his way to be obnoxious, overbearing with no people skills - would have been better suited to being a traffic warden. Will not be returning - Avoid - far better options available for less.
Positive experience: I stayed at this hotel for 2 weeks for business. All Staff were friendly. Rooms and furnitures are a bit old, but I didn’t care actually. Bed was comfortable, bathroom was ok. Breakfast was enough. Location was good also for me and there is a supermarket next to the hotel.
Hello Esra, Thank you for sharing your experience at The Washington Mayfair Hotel. We appreciate you choosing us for your business trip and for your kind words about our staff. We’re glad you found the location convenient, and the breakfast was satisfying. Your feedback about the rooms and furniture is valuable, and we’ll take this into consideration. We hope to welcome you back on your next visit to London.
Negative experience: I would need an unlimited space to express my depression and unsatisfactory l have been through my whole stying in that hotel, Before that let me tell you that I have visited the hotel myself few months back to see if they have refurbished their rooms as I used to be a regular customer before 2019. I found out that they have refurbished some floors. And I visited those rooms to ensure thy are meeting my expectations as a customer. We made the reservation through a phone call to ensure being assigned to the new rooms during our visit in January and the reservation was made based on three conditions 1 new furnitured roomed 2 New furnitureed floors 3Two Connected rooms for my self and my friend. Let’s start at the arrival day we explained everything to the receptionist and all were cleared. Then I was shoked that we were in a very old room! I took it easy as we have just arrived and needed to rest. In the afternoon I went to the receptionist to see why we are not getting what we have requested for? And they said we will move you but we cant afford to get you a connected rooms not even in the same floor!!!Although this was not the deal.!!! We said that we will be glad to move somewhere els but they said that the policy is obligating us to cancel three days in advance!!! Guess what? They were able to offer us two rooms in same floor but not connected!! We said fine. Just to fix the issue and not to waist more tome or to lose our deposit We went to our rooms., unpacked our stuff then my friend noticed that the phone extension in her room was not working. We went to the reception and they simply said there is an electricity issue and if she wishes they can transfer her to another room. With no other possible solution to fix the current issue. In conclusion Staff were uncooperative Rooms not up to the standards Cleaning was not up to the standard At the last day when we were checking out. We complained and the manager that we didn’t see through out our stay came an apologize saying the ones we dealed with are not permanent staff! Whose fault is that? Conclusion, they are not recommended to spend even one night there and don’t deserve even a half of a star.
Fantastic experience: Original hotel had a leak so were resited here. Absolutely chuffed as found the staff friendly and polite. Upgraded to a junior suite, which was beyond our budget but made our weekend in London thoroughly enjoyable. Breakfast was a buffet, a nice choice of cooked, cereals and continental. Coffee could be upgraded as offered out of a thermos jug, and wasnt that nice, but supplied a cappuccino at request. Saw a few guests being rude to the staff, but we didnt experience any problems.
Hello Paula, Thank you for taking the time to share your experiences. We're glad you enjoyed your stay in our junior suite and found our staff friendly and accommodating. We appreciate your feedback on the coffee, and we will certainly consider it for future improvements. We hope to welcome you back soon.
Negative experience: Very large bed but uncomfortable, lighting in the room is so dimmed that you can barely see. Furniture's could do with a refurb.
Positive experience: Advertised as a 4 star hotel, other than the location, this place is sadly lacking. The hotel needs a major refurbishment. My room had a broken mirror corner held together with tape. The curtains wouldn't stay on the rod nor open. The blackout drapes are stained. The carpeting is stained and the furniture chipped. The windows are old and no sound proofing so every noise, conversation, and truck car was heard... not easy to sleep...the door to the room has a strange plastic key that works occasionally. No sound proofing in the room so you know who's going down the hall or taking a shower. The breakfast is mediocre at best with mushy or unripe fruit, extra charge for cappuccino, irregular wait service. On the plus side, the shower was hot and beds were comfortable but I had to get sheets since it's only a duvet cover. The heating/air conditioning is old, noisy and the vents are filthy.
Fantastic experience: Beautiful hotel. In a fab location. Beds were insanely comfy, the let down for a woman on a 5* red carpet night out was the lack of full length mirror in the room. Very odd. Taking £50 off my card at check in just in case was a tad off as well. Yes take details but to actually take monies for nothing didn't sit well with me. Reception Staff pleasant. Definitely did not go out of their way to welcome us. The best staff member was the gentleman in reception overnight. Friendly and polite. You need more of him.
Positive experience: Great location although nothing special, buffet breakfast adequate but again nothing special.
Hello Colin, We appreciate you taking the time to provide feedback on your stay. We're delighted you liked the hotel's location. We are always looking for ways to improve our visitors' experiences, so we will take your feedback on the breakfast into consideration. We want to welcome you again in the future to provide an even better experience.
Positive experience: yall dev anand died there that was crazy the food here was nice i got to pack some extra breakfast for my gf and they were ok w it the employees are really sweet the rich kids here are a little weird
Hello, Thank you for your review! We're happy to hear that you had a fantastic experience at The Washington Mayfair Hotel. It's wonderful to know that our staff went above and beyond to make your stay special. We look forward to welcoming you back soon!
Positive experience: The location is great, if you need access to the centre of London. The hotel itself is not luxury by any means. There is no restaurant to speak of. Breakfast is basic and the room is depressing... And it is not actually cheap. But as long as you are not paying yourself, it is ok.
Fantastic experience: Lovely hotel amazing staff and beautiful restaurant
Hello Brigitte, Thank you for your review! We're happy to hear that you had a fantastic experience at The Washington Mayfair Hotel. It's wonderful to know that our staff went above and beyond to make your stay special. We look forward to welcoming you back soon!
Fantastic experience: Where Rick Steves put us up for our weeklong London Tour. Great location near the Tube and Hyde Park. Plenty of restaurants in the area and a nice quiet upscale area.
Negative experience: To call this a 4-star hotel is a stretch. Setting aside that the lobby is tired and beat up, the front desk staff need training in hospitality and professionalism (unsympathetic to us coming off of a long day of travel). Rooms were AWFUL - broken closet door, bathrooms were tiny, window latches were broken, no iron and TV was first generation flat screen. Disappointing all around.
Negative experience: I have booked a stay from Monday until Thursday and asked to cancel the last night upon check-in. The lady at the reception refused to do so and simply charged another 300+ GBP for the last night although I won't be there anymore. There is many good alternatives in the neighborhood, even including good customer service.
Negative experience: Don't do it. If you are still reading at this stage I'll say it again...don't do it. Stale décor and a musty ambiance made the place not just uninviting but almost unsettling. Despite being well-traveled, the subpar service and archaic amenities felt like a comedic tragedy and certainly not what one would anticipate in a prime Mayfair location.
Fantastic experience: Excellent place to stay for a few nights. Rooms are excellent, and the staff are kind and thoughtful. Location is ideal for parks, shops, and attractions.

Fantastic experience: Location location location! Perfect spot for exploring the city. Friendly staff & consistently enjoyable breakfast.
Hello Matthew, Thank you for your review! We're happy to hear that you had a fantastic experience at The Washington Mayfair Hotel. It's wonderful to know that our staff went above and beyond to make your stay special. We look forward to welcoming you back soon!
Positive experience: Rented 2 rooms for 1 week while on a tour. The included breakfast was good with a wide variety of foods. Staff was helpful and friendly and strong drinks are mixed at the bar. Americans may want to request a top sheet on the bed as there is only a duvet cover on the comforter. Rooms were clean, albeit a bit aged. Beds were comfortable and there is air conditioning. Great location across from Shepherd Market with bars and restaurants, 1 block from Picadilly Street, and 2 blocks Green Park underground station. Mayfair is a posh part of London with lots of fancy cars, shopping, and restaurants.
Fantastic experience: The hotel's complimentary welcome amenities and personalized touches create a warm and inviting atmosphere for guests upon arrival.
Negative experience: I booked this hotel for the location and the photos online made it look nice. When I checked in, I was shocked at the state of my room. The room was filthy, the furniture very outdated and stained, the carpet had stains and clearly hadn’t been cleaned in years. I turned around and went back to reception to request a different room and was told there were none until the following night. I told the manager I wouldn’t stay in that room and he told me there was nothing he could do. I requested a refund so I could go to another hotel and explained that the photos shown online misrepresent what customers are actually getting. After arguing with me, he finally agreed to give me a full refund. I don’t understand how this hotel can hold a four star status. It is probably the worst I’ve ever seen.
Fantastic experience: Small rooms but the service is great. The manager (Max) is the absolute best!
Positive experience: Wonderful location but our room 519 was tired and needed to be updated. Loose mirror with duct tape. Overall aged and showing it. The service was excellent as was cleanliness and the location is outstanding. Close to everything.
Negative experience: Great location. Rooms and hotel very run down.
Negative experience: For a 4 star hotel in such a prominent area of London we was so disappointed with this hotel. Let alone that we got completely taken advantage of for the coronation weekend - this hotel is tired, plenty of wear and tear, layered dust on items in rooms. Empty mini fridge. It’s like they are about to sell it to another chain and squeezing every penny beforehand. Upside was concierge was super helpful and indeed it’s a good location but you’re paying for that.
Positive experience: Service was great, everyone was super friendly and helpful! The rooms are a bit dated, but that location can’t be beat.
Fantastic experience: Very pleasant hotel. The rooms were good sized and clean. They offer breakfast and dinner and of course, afternoon tea! Close by subway and bus stops and right by the Shepard's Market with some nice pubs and across from Green Park. A really good location in a nice area to explore the London area.
Negative experience: I was very disappointed that I hadn't looked at the hotel before the assistant booked it. The pictures are very misleading. This place was dated and lackluster. The bathroom was probably the best part but nothing special. The rooms didn't even come stocked with an iron. I asked for one and it finally arrived at the room after midnight. I had issues with the outlets and was moved to a room on the first floor that was very noisy and somehow worse than my original room. Breakfast was also subpar, wouldn't recommend eating here. For the price they are charging you can find so much better stays in the area. I heard they are renovating, but even still it is not worth it. The area is convenient, but again there are plenty of other hotels around here. Read the real reviews and you'll hear the same theme.
Negative experience: I am here in my Washington Mayfair hotel room writing this review. The tub won’t drain. The curtains won’t close and are shredded. The a/c doesn’t work. There is one chair to sit in a room for two. The beds have been shifted so we can’t reach the plugs. No USB plugs anywhere so we can’t charge our phones. The carpets and furniture are chipped, scratched, and dated. This place needs an update because the location is fantastic and Shepard Market has the best food ever!
Positive experience: Very friendly staff and the restaurant and bar had gorgeous decor
Negative experience: The hotel is absolutely nowhere even near the service that it should provide for such price. Breakfast is very poor, breakfast area cold that everyone is sitting in their coats. I’ve used a please make the room card and no cleaning arrived that day. Rooms definitely need some proper cleaning and renovation. Staff never says hello first. Window curtains are extremely dirty. Would not recommend it.
Fantastic experience: Rooms is good, nice breakfast, location near to modest restaurants & bars..
Positive experience: The hotel is a beautiful view. The room was clean and tidy. Facilities is a very good and staff also helpful.
Fantastic experience: For those who love classic holiday feeling, here is the best place u can stay, the hotel have many facilities that provided,Good location lots of places to eat around if you chose to eat outside.Their staff also very helpful,This is great little gem in london.there's nothing to regret about this hotel, absolutely a perfect hotel to stay
Fantastic experience: Stayed at The Washington Mayfair Hotel and it was an absolutely incredible experience. From the moment I arrived, the staff was friendly and helpful, going above and beyond to make sure my stay was comfortable and enjoyable. The room was clean and spacious, with luxurious bedding and amenities. The location was perfect, situated in the heart of the city with easy access to all the best attractions and restaurants. I would highly recommend The Washington Mayfair Hotel to anyone visiting the area, and I will definitely be returning for future stays. It truly deserves a 5-star review!
Fantastic experience: The hotel is nearby convenient store, it is a perfect place to stay few days. Great view on the roof top. Glad i came
Fantastic experience: Everything was excellent! I loved all of them even they changed my beds without any cost!
Fantastic experience: My favourite Hotel. Always had a great, spacious room. Staff very friendly and helpful.
Fantastic experience: This hotel is suitable for those who want to hold a function, meeting, hall, can also stay here. A hotel room is provided to be here, good service, good food
Fantastic experience: Really good location as you are close to Mayfair high end restaurants and bars. It's walking distance to the station as well. There is a amazing lounge at the entrance to the hotel which is quite and good for meetings.
Negative experience: This hotel is located in Mayfair, London. Very prime location however you really need to manage your expectations. This Hotel is horribly dated and the price does not match the quality of services, amenities, ambience and room. The hotel is stuck in the early nineties. The hotel has a pungent smell of cigarettes/incense and reminded me of my dormitory/halls days. I checked in and checked out an hour later and moved to the Intercontinental on Park Lane which was more pricey but offered me the standard of quality I would expect from a hotel in such a prime location. if you are used to five star - three star high quality accommodation please do not go here. The photos are also misleading and if someone had given an honest review I would not have gone to this hotel. Hope they can find ways to improve hotel as a whole.
Negative experience: This hotel was weird. I thought with the prime location it would exceed my expectations. TV has a weird and slightly ghetto set up. The hallway reeked of incense. The hotel hallways have not been renovated in decades. We went to the bar for a drink and the bartender was non-existent. When she did arrive, she didn’t have a drink menu. The bar area ambiance was poor. When booking the hotel room, it said free breakfast included. We arrived for breakfast and we were told only one of us was free so my fiancé just skipped breakfast because they wanted 30 pounds for muffins and scones. This was marketed as an upscale-ish hotel and it really should be $99/night instead of $299/night.
Negative experience: Location is great for tourists, you'd get much better accommodation at a better price in other areas nearby. Staff felt very disorganized.
Fantastic experience: Beautiful hotel in the centre of Mayfair everything is pretty much 10 minutes walk away, staff are pleasant and reasonable price considering your in Mayfair
Negative experience: Pros - Good location, centrally located with great cafes and bars in vicinity. Near beautiful parks and London attractions such as Buckingham Palace. 5-10 mins walk from tube station also. Reception staff friendly. Ability to store baggage post checkout. Cons - Hotel is very dated, rooms are dull and need maintenance. Room was not fully cleaned, smelly moldy fridge and stains on towels and headboard. Hotel staff (aside from reception) would benefit from some people skills, most seemed disinterested, especially at breakfast serving. Additionally, breakfast was ok at best. Request for Iron was like pulling teeth, luckily there’s a good dry cleaners around the corner. Reviews are deceiving, as most were very good, unless it is just our experience of course. Was a romantic weekend getaway and the only dampener was the hotel unfortunately. Wouldn’t stay here again, it’s not worth the money. Used for location only.
Negative experience: Biggest disappointment was the Continental breakfast, a choice I always go for when travelling around major cities. I can honestly say it's the worst Continental menus I've experience in 30yrs; Menus offering plastic cheap meats and cheese with limited choice, no offering of fresh tomatoes, olives, cucumber, feta cheese or smoked fish etc. I took the cereals in the end.
Negative experience: Great Location but wow room is atrocious. Fourth floor room. Very basic and actually quite dirty. Shower curtain has dirt stains throughout, walls chipping away carpets are tired. Pretty awful to look at. My sheets weren't changed for 3days at 1 point and shower just rinsed over for a couple of days. I had to request a clean-up. Stayed 10nights and i wouldn't stay again sadly. But the worst by far is the slamming of every single door in the entire hotel. Door closers would go along way, if too ‘costly’ despite the thousands it cost me to stay even some felt pads would do the trick. Big mistake staying here for my entire trip. Either consider airbnb or pay extra for a better hotel. Im not going to waste my energy complaining either, they all seem uninterested
Negative experience: This hotel is in a serious need for a renovation, some staff need big lessons in customer service but not all, after reading so many dreadful reviews and to late to cancel we decided we should stay just here, to be honest we were surprised our room was a lot better than some of the other pictures we seen, comments about the noise from the street is correct, bathtub showers flood when having a shower we called for service but wasn't able to get it fixed, one of the lifts was out of service we had to use stairs most of the time, they wrapped the smoke alarm with cling wrap to stop it maybe going off, the doors slammed every time we closed it so we had to remember each time not to wake up the neighbours, we didn't have an iron but they brought one up no problems, we asked for a late check-out and the duty manager Massimiliano Pecci said they are fully booked without looking being very arrogant, but when we came back from after dinner speaking to someone else they said they were able to offer it for an additional £20 per hour, this duty manager seems so arrogant I'm sure he will have a read through these comments but I don't care fix your attitude I'm definitely not returning here anyway, especially while your still there.
Positive experience: It was a bit overpriced for the room, we got 2 beds and a bathroom for just about 300$. Food is overpriced as 15$ for a baguette sandwich that was very small. Not to mention it had way too much horse radish, The beds were overall very hard and the room was smaller than expected. Was the price worth it? :No Would I come back :No Did I enjoy it :50% Not my favorite but they need to do better on food and pricing. Overall just a money laundering system
Negative experience: The Hotel is clearly dated, but the location is decent. The room did not have any sound-proofing, in the middle of a busy part of London. From the fifth floor I could hear people having conversations on the street, cars, music, everything you would expect. The window had black tape around it where the staff had clearly tried to 'stop noise' ... with black tape. None of the doors close gently in the hotel so if someone leaves their room at 1am, you can hear it slam shut behind them. If you get more than a few hours sleep you are doing well. There's no iron and ironing board in the room - they aren't happy if you ask for one either, that was a fun thing to ask for. When I mentioned to the front desk about the above - particularly given the price point of this hotel - i was given a response of 'thanks for the feedback', no apologies given or follow ups. I have seen similar reviews here which suggests they have had this before and don't care. Would not recommend.
Negative experience: Rude, unhelpful and uninterested staff from the moment we arrived. Damaged wallpaper and bathroom door and dirty curtains in our room. The TV didn't work properly. No sound proofing and an adjoining door in our room didn't help when we were woken both nights of our stay by loud guests next door and in the corridors. Booked a double to find they were actually twin beds pushed together. Considering the quality (and price!) of the establishment we thought we had booked, we were truly disappointed.
Negative experience: No air conditioning. TVs do not work. Response from staff is “we will have someone come up” yet no one comes up. Nice location but you never want to be in the room. Very poor.
Negative experience: Location is perfect. Staff very courteous. But, food in restaurant is dreadful. We made the mistake of booking both breakfast and dinner in hotel for our stay. Quality of food was very poor, some of it almost inedible and it was overpriced. In fact, staff were embarrassed serving it up. I complained to the reception staff, who gave us a 10% discount on our food bill on the understanding they would take my grievance to management and let me know the outcome. Of course, I have heard nothing! Room on first floor, which was supposed to be an upgrade, was tired and in desperate need of refurbishment. I would not stay there again.
Positive experience: I came form the JW Marriott Grosvenor House London which was horrible treament to the Washington Mayfair. I have to say all in all I liked it. The staff was pleasant, courteous and attended to my every need. Especially the duty Manager Fabrizio Atza he was terrific. The only thing that makes this hotel a 3 star not a 5star is the gym is small and has no Ab Equipment. I mean who has a gym with no equipment. What makes a gym in the first place? Abs, cardio and free weight equipment. Also they have very little television content so I went to purchase a Fire Stick. When I got back to the hotel an employee offered to assist me with setting it up,but they couldn't. The TV is mounted to the wall so you can't hook up your own content. I have never visited a hotel where you didn't have access to the Hdmi or DVI ports.
Fantastic experience: Incredible stay at the Washington. We arrived early and Anthony the duty manager was able to get us in our room to accomodate our early arrival to London (with an upgrade); incredible service. It was a perfect location for us given a birthday at 5 Hertford only two minutes away. My gf who is celiac was able to have gluten free high tea across the street. We'll be back to the Washington for sure.
Negative experience: Terrible terrible terrible. This hotel does not represent London in anyway. No standards just a money laundering operation
Negative experience: The hotel needs some serious TLC. For the price, it’s not up to the expected standard of quality, fittings, repair, cleanliness or service. We were upgraded to a suite but one of the three window blinds was broken and couldn’t be opened, the furniture was badly worn and bedding ripped. The staff, especially at breakfast, seemed completely uninterested. All first world problems yes, but not what you expect given the price charged.
Fantastic experience: Came to London yesterday on the off chance for the day and didn’t expect to be able to stay for the night. No problem with getting a room and a free upgrade to a superior king. Staff are all very friendly and welcoming. A full English breakfast this morning and endless coffee’s. What’s not to enjoy? Room is spacious and clean, bathroom is a nice size with a powerful shower. Would recommend to anyone.
Fantastic experience: When in London, I always stay at this hotel and this wekend was no exception. We arriived Staurday eveing, celebrating my friends 40th. The receptionist sent cake upstairs to the room and surprised us after giving us an upgrade to the room and a late check out. Witouth us asking for it! Talk about service! The hotel is impecable in terms of faccilities and definetley desreves its stars. The pillows and black out celling to floor blinds made it difficult to get out of bed! The breakfast had so many options and everything was fresh. This hotel never fails me. Highly reccommend it.
Negative experience: Nicely located but old and tired my room for example and blinds that had fallen into holes and discoloured from wear and tear the wires on the phone were exposed. Lovely staff trying hard but not a lot to work with the place needs some work to start with a paint of coat everywhere is required but with the findings in my room I just felt dirty in the place. Nice location to most places but needs a lot of attention urgently.
Negative experience: Room was very clean, hotel very nice. Staff very friendly but what 2 nights of broken sleep. The noise outside due to poor sound proofing was unreal from car stereos to people talking shouting screaming even mobile phones until the early hours. Sat evening a couple had a screaming row outside our room they then took it outside where it continued for what seemed an eternity. He then returned slamming and shouting between that and the rock hard mattresses 2 singles acting as a double was 2 of the worst night sleeps we have ever had. Please sort your windows and mattresses out the rest
Negative experience: The concerige Raulf or Raul is a horribly rude guy. The moment you enter the hotel, jumps across and asks WHAT YOU WANT, as if entering hotel is a sin. The man needs to be nicer if he needs to continue in the hospitality industry. My family had gone to meet somebody and I just wanted to wait at the Lobby and he would just not let me be there !! Horrible , never seen or experienced something like this anywhere..
Negative experience: For a 4 star hotel we were quite disappointed. Main issue was the fire alarm going off throughout the night and as we had booked the hotel for our night out it meant we had very little sleep. While we were evacuated standing outside a man stopped in a car and asked what was going on and he said that this has happened before recently where he saw all guests evacuated during the night. I feel that a blame on hotel guests would conveniently avoid any refunds for the high paying guests.Tried to have a bath and water was luke warm and not at all hot which was disappointing as we had booked and requested a bath specifically. Took a 50 pounds deposit from us which was not stated anywhere previously or when booking. Also during the fire alarm staff didn’t liase with guests or tell us anything, we were simply sitting on the kerb outside for approximately an hour and used our own initiative when finally returning to our rooms to try and get back to sleep which was unsuccessful. I don’t like to leave negative reviews but we expected much more for 200+ pounds a night in a 4 star Mayfair hotel.
Negative experience: UPDATE (9/24/2021): Even worse. These people double billed me, too. I called and the man who answered said it’s now my responsibility to email the hotel’s accounting team to sort this out. Huh? I will, but I have already flagged the charge as fraud on my credit card. What’s incredible is that someone else on these reviews said they were also double billed. How does that happen more than once??! It’s like I literally can’t get what should have been a one-night, effortless hotel stay out of my life. **DO NOT STAY HERE** Original post: Other than the location, there is very little redeeming about this hotel. Stay somewhere else. I rarely leave negative reviews, but this place was awful. What an embarrassment to the Mayfair area. How it qualifies as a “4-star” hotel is absurd. The whole facility is dated. One of the elevators (one of only two for guests) was out of service. The temperature was way too high. The air conditioning in our room didn’t seem to cool anything more than one degree. Extra bonus: management says a ‘guest’ repeatedly set off the fire alarms, four separate times, beginning around 4:30 a.m. and ending around 6:15 a.m. I have never seen so many enraged hotel guests. Refund or credit? Not a chance, the front desk told me. The one thing a hotel is supposed to do well at $250/night - let people sleep well - failed miserably for all these reasons. Disaster.
