Everlast Gyms - St Helens: Opinions
Negative experience: I went to this gym for about 3 months and then I had to move, so I had to cancel. They weren't helpful at all and at first refused, wanting to make me pay for an extra 3 months. Finally, I cancelled but they told me I had to pay the whole following month, but in the Terms & Conditions it says I should have only been charged a £10 fee. I asked them to tell me where in the Terms & Conditions it said I had to pay the following month but they ignored me. I sent several emails and all of them were ignored. Today, they charged me that extra month. When it comes to the actual gym, many machines were out of service and the weights were never in order. I really wanted to eventually go back to this gym, but the customer service is awful and the gym itself is not worth it for the price.
Negative experience: They cancelled my membership with no reason. Kept promising to fix the issue but never did . And then told me I have to start a new membership with double the price of my membership. My membership should end at the end of this year . But they just called me saying no way to fix my membership even though it was not my fault.
Negative experience: TERRIBLE, I have been a member here for years. The machines are broken and rarely repaired. There is also hardly any equipment for the classes. We keep getting told after the refurbishment. This refurbishment has been happening for over 6 years now. My advice as a PT is to join another gym where they actually do something about the broken equipment etc. Plenty of gyms out there in this area
Positive experience: Good improvement over the last 6 months. New showers in ladies. And pool good temperature
Fantastic experience: Fantastic gym. Friendly and helpful gym staff. Great range of classes (miss Yoga though). Great value too
Negative experience: Been a member here for over six years at King Street St.Helens During the time I was a member there the machines were constantly out of order they don't seem in any hurry to fix them either. One of the strider machines to which there are only two of, has been juttery and not working properly for over four years, but to constantly complain about it goes on deaf ears. This gym needs to have a total refurb I've stayed there mainly because of the cost £10 which has been cheap compared to most, convenience to my workplace, friendliness of other members and staff. Recently emails have been sent out to only "selected members" about the 100% price increase on 1st Feb 2025. Luckily for me one of my family members had received the email regarding the price increase which I was not informed about and I cancelled my membership straight away. Considering that I can go to a council run facility have a swim, attend all the classes and go to the gym for less than what they want to charge, I can't see that they will be improving this gym any time soon, according to the email reasons for the rise state because of increase in rent, utilities and rise of the national minimum wage not for refurbishing or any decent new equipment. As for members loyalty they don't care, when I've spoken to other gym members they also had not been informed that the cost was going up in February, I wouldn't be surprised if there were membership cancellations which is a shame.

Negative experience: Sad to leave but no justification of raising the price to £20 a month when it was a tenner, a very bad business practice of Everlast when I get an email saying happy new year but hey we're doubling the price with less than a month's notice. All that's stated in it is the cost of wages, rent etc. going up but how is this the consumer's problem? Nothing is mentioned about actually making the gym better. Machines out of order are scattered around the place and can't see that changing. Had its day I think. They said that I can't cancel February's payment as I have to give them a months notice but hold on, where was my notice on the price increase? Cancel the direct debit guys.
Fantastic experience: Friendly staff, range of equipment, enjoyable classes

Positive experience: Place is turning into a youth hostel. Only keep going because it's only a tenner and nowhere else close to me.
Fantastic experience: First gym I joined and it was a great introduction into working out. £10 a month is such a great price with classes included. Good amount of equipment and the staff were all really friendly. I like that GSN meals are sold here, find them really useful for lunch. Would definitely recommend this gym.
Negative experience: 3 years to fix a broken machine come on
Negative experience: Not a good gym! A lot of the equipment is old and broken, put on top of this the limited machines and it doesn't make a good combination. I have asked when machines are going to be fixed and as yet over a week later I havnt had an answer. The staff all seem nice and polite but the gym is not very good!
Fantastic experience: I've been a member of here since April last year ,one of the best things I have done in the last 12 months,it's really good for your mental health and overall wellbeing, some days are busier then others.I do enjoy the circuit/strength and spin classes as well.
Fantastic experience: Lovely staff, Ben especialy helped alot
Fantastic experience: I have been a member of the fitness club since it first opened and having trained all over the world in many types of gyms, this is without doubt the best. It is friendly, lots of up to date equipment that is maintained really well. The staff are friendly. Harry Jackson
