Halo Bridgend Life Centre is a prominent sports and leisure facility located in Bridgend, United Kingdom. It offers a diverse range of amenities suitable for all ages and fitness levels, including swimming pools, a modern gym, a toning suite, spa services, a library, a children's soft play area, and wall climbing facilities.
Visitors appreciate the cleanliness and friendly atmosphere, with many highlighting the helpful and knowledgeable staff who contribute to a positive experience. The centre is particularly praised for its vibrant kids' facilities, including designated areas for younger children and options for birthday parties.
The café on site provides a variety of food and drinks, accommodating various dietary needs, and there's ample parking, including free two-hour parking for users of Halo's facilities.
- Good swimming pool with fun activities for children.
- Wide selection of fitness classes.
- Accessible and family-friendly environment.
- Appealing outdoor play area and athletic track.
However, some users have raised concerns regarding equipment maintenance, with reports of poorly maintained gym equipment and cleanliness issues in certain areas, particularly in changing rooms. The car park becomes crowded during peak times, and there have been mentions of unresponsive customer service over the phone. Despite these drawbacks, many continue to enjoy the diverse activities and the community spirit fostered within the centre.
Halo Bridgend Life Centre: Opinions
Fantastic experience: Great range of facilities that cater to all ages and abilities including swimming pools, gym, toning suite, Spa, library, children’s soft play and wall climbing. On site cafe with plenty of seating and a good range of food and drinks that cater for some allergies. Has always been clean upon my visits. Lots of parking with ample disabled spaces. Access to free two hours parking if using the Halo facilities, otherwise pay and display with reasonable fees. Outside play park and fields with an athletics track.
Positive experience: Good fun, enjoyed the swimming
Fantastic experience: tidy, accessible, not expensive + good swimming pool!
Hi Felipe, Thank you for the wonderful review! We're delighted to hear that you found us tidy, accessible, and budget-friendly. It’s great to know you enjoyed our swimming pool as well! We hope to see you again soon for another fantastic visit!
Fantastic experience: Nice clean and warm with an area for under three’s and for older children. Plenty of seating and you can buy snacks and drinks and take them in. Good for kids parties with a party room on the first floor.
Hi David, Thank you for your fantastic review! We’re thrilled that you enjoyed the clean and warm atmosphere, as well as the designated areas for both younger and older children. It’s great to hear you found our seating comfortable and appreciated the snack options. We love hosting kids’ parties and are glad you noticed our party room! Looking forward to seeing you and the kids again soon!
Positive experience: I go here for pokemon card club which is a great club but the swimming pool Is mid because there's only slide but I had my swimming lessons here when I was younger so 4 stars
Negative experience: No jacuzzi a spa it is not without it sone work to be done here we think
Fantastic experience: Really nice place to go,classes are great and staff are helpful and friendly. You get 2 hours free parking from 10am to 4pm after 4pm it's free parking.
Fantastic experience: Amazing
Fantastic experience: Go mainly for the climbing wall, staff have always been very friendly and supportive without being overbearing Wish there was more climbing facilities in Bridgend but they do well with what they've got
Negative experience: POORLY MAINTAINED EQUIPMENT, COLD POOL, DIRTY SHOWERS. Three treadmills weren't working this morning but they weren't even marked as out of order. One of the three step machines was out of order as well, which is common. The swimming pool was COLD! The lifeguard assured me it wasn't, but to me it felt colder than usual. Matter of opinion I suppose, and I feel the cold so try for yourselves. ♀️ Showers in swimming pool stunk of urine today! Maybe the impact of the school summer holidays? Vile, though. The smelly drains have been a long standing problem. The cleaning standards are below par. Not worth the money.
Negative experience: Be really nice if someone could answer the phone so I could book a swim for myself and granddaughter, be very good if your sign up membership would accept my date of birth or post code,,,, CANNOT BOOK AN ACTIVITY ONLINE OR BY PHONE
Fantastic experience: Great session on the climbing wall today. Very friendly atmosphere and a good variety of routes.
Fantastic experience: Visited for the fun time swim, lots of floats and the slide was fun for kids. Good value for an hour of swimming and the car park is free for two hours when you are using the facilities which is great. Bring a padlock for the lockers as they don't have keys. You can purchase one from reception for £3.50 if you need one but you can bring towels and a bag onto poolside if you don't have one.
Positive experience: Ok but to get to Employment Bridgend bit of a fiddle down long corridors.
Positive experience: Great facilties
Positive experience: Good swimming lessons but a four, only because it is only half an hour and I like the play play place the too

Fantastic experience: We at Sunnyside Badminton play here on Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 7pm to 9pm. £7 per session. Feather shuttles. Club play only. No league involvement. Very friendly club.
Positive experience: Reception staff, not that attentive
Hi Mark Thank you so much for taking the time to share your feedback. We will take your comments on board and make changes where necessary Halo Team
Fantastic experience: Great gym work out most nights
Fantastic experience: Just attended my Hydro Gym Induction via The National Exercise GP Referral Service with Darren. I have chronic arthritis in my hip and am awaiting a Total Hip Replacement. Excellent knowledge from Darren and such an amazing service. Let's see what the next 16 weeks brings! Feeling very positive and very tired .
Negative experience: the place looks great until you get to the gym. no air con, small and cramped, weights strewn everywhere and very old, rusted equipment. cancelled my membership after 1 day, yet i’m expected to pay for another month before i can officially cancel it… what a waste of money
Positive experience: You have to book online, very clean changing rooms and showers, not to busy today
Negative experience: I took my son to the play centre here today and while the play gym itself was great it was very dirty and very very dusty, clear that it hadn’t been cleaned for a while. Won’t be bringing my son back and don’t recommend taking under 18month year olds as they offer.
Fantastic experience: Went there to print a form off ...back open again which is nice
Positive experience: It's really good, great facilities. Staff are helpful. Library is great for the kids with lots of events on. Pool books out quickly so book in advance.
Fantastic experience: Plenty of activities
Negative experience: I used the gym on Sunday morning 4th June. Walked through the doors and walked up to the counter which I still find to be a very uncomfortable experience, 2 young girls were sitting behind the glass and an older lady sitting on top of the counter behind them, could hardly be bothered to speak as usual, checking in is still my biggest hate about the centre. Now I’ve been using the facilities here a very long time, the state of the gym this particular morning was disgraceful, before I started my training session I re-racked all the weight plates that were strewn around the floor, put all the various handles and ropes back in place that had been thrown into a heap on the floor in the middle of the of the matrix multi gym and put all the benches back in place. The staff-less gym looked grubby and dirty, all the mirrors need a good clean and the machines a good wipe down and the whole room needs a good vacuuming. Now I know it was a Sunday but I only saw 1 staff member in the gym and that was about 10 minutes before I left, the 3 female staff members busy chatting at reception were obviously too busy to do anything else. Going back to the gym, it really is starting to look rough the walls are in need of painting and once again one side of the older multi gym isn’t working again this machine needs replacing. I’ve noticed that a lot of new members know nothing about gym etiquette, most don’t re-rack the weight plates or put things back after use maybe some polite signs are needed, also some of the ages are questionable as I thought minimum age was 16 to use the weight machines, again if the gym was adequately staffed then I’m sure this wouldn’t be an issue. Come on Halo don’t let standards drop, a great facility has now slipped to a good facility and it’s going to keep slipping if something isn’t done, you have so much competition now in Bridgend that you really need to start upping your game,
Fantastic experience: I visited the pool and spa today with a friend... The staff are very informative plesent and friendly The facility are clean baby area is amazing big family changing rooms ....I can't fault our experience today next time we will have treatments in the beauty rooms as the prices are so reasonable...a big 10 from us both
Fantastic experience: I love the pool and how you can use the floats for free and have fun, also love the gym because it's never busy and has many different things to workout with for you, also used the pool for my sisters birthday. Recently I joined this library club where you can do creative writing and reading ect. It's so great, there were only 5 of us but they are all so loving and kind, it's great here.
Positive experience: Kinda short lessons and a tiny bit expensive I'm scared of drowning but they made me learn how to swim
Negative experience: nice place, lots of facilities, however whenever me and my friends are in there keeping in mind we do not do any bad activitys, but when me and my friends go in we get kick out for not using "facilities", but we sit in the cafe and stay quiet. We mostly stay on our phones.
Negative experience: Alot of facilities but never many options for teenagers, so when it is raining or cold, they get kicked out all of the time, although adults alike do not. I would understand if the said teenagers where causing problems but most of the time they do not so I cant help but wonder why they do.
Positive experience: Staff are friendly at the cafe but one thing was very bad. There's a vending machine in the soft play area which took my money and no drink came out. And the woman at reception just said it's not theirs so they can't help, just to call the number on it. So why do they have that there if they can't help if there's a problem? So it's OK just to be robbed, like that they probably know that people won't chase up their 1 or 2 pound it's not worth the hassel. I think that's wrong
Fantastic experience: I had a tour and told about the classes available I was impressed, have booked some classes.I have lung problems but classes are available that suit my limited mobility. I left feeling empowered first time I have felt like this is ages Thank you Louis for your help today. New review I joined Halo as a GP referral and it has changed my life. I attend Lewis's easy circuit course twice weekly. Lewis is so dedicated and helpful, he always has our classes planned, he checks on you if you have any problem doing the class and makes us all feel well cared for. I have made friends in my class and it has definitely improved my fitness and my mental health. I also do Toning machine classes. The machines move and you work with them. These have improved my joint mobility and Simone who runs the classes is extremely helpful. I would highly recommend the centre to anyone all the staff are lovely and helpful. Thank you
Negative experience: Shocking how terrible this place is. And the racism is beyond a joke. Asking for proof of my citizenship every singe time I went in the building I’ve never once been able to use the gym I’ve paid for I’d say 9 months give or take and not been allowed to use the gym it’s taken 7 months to get them to stop taking money out of my account. The manager still hasn’t called me like promised to apologise and refund me as there was proof or racism and refusal use of the building this place is lazy and racism older staff member shouldn’t have to bring passport every time I enter the building and proof of my disability!! This place needs reporting for racial hate and prejudice
Hello. Thank you so much for bringing this to your attention. Our strive to make our leisure facilities welcoming for everyone in the community. We are sorry that you haven't found this to be the case. We will be sure to look into this matter for you. Regards Hi if you would like to discuss the matter further please email your contact details to: [email protected] I will personally contact you to discuss your concerns .Thanks Nick
Negative experience: Rubbish
Positive experience: Child's birthday party - well organized
Negative experience: Badly run with poorly appointed systems in place. Fixtures and fittings showing age
Fantastic experience: Lovely library and the staff are so helpful
Negative experience: Terrible service. Always queues. Not welcoming in the slightest
Fantastic experience: Very good gym. Nice staff. Very clean
Negative experience: only sat in carpark
Negative experience: Daughter booked pool party Sunday 19/6/22 5pm - 7pm. Staff miserable and unhelpful. Couldn’t get room ready till 3.10pm. No help or guidance where do go, Children told pool ready at 3.15pm. Staff member asked all children how old they were (weird) moaned about a 7 year old in pool even though her aunty and cousin aged 40 & 17 were supervising.complained about two 8 year olds wearing armbands even though there was three adults/parents IN the pool. Hardly enough time for children to have their Birthday food. Told at 4.50 you have ten minutes to pack up and leave. Cafe closed at 3pm said receptionist glued to her seat. She said it’s just Grab and Go. No staff member assisted us when we all arrived we were herded like cattle. No one to help (until one minute to 5pm) when one lad carried slow cooker with hot dogs in to her car. All staff miserable like they didn’t want to be in work. AVOID this dreadful place
Negative experience: Really bad in my opinion I had to do an induction with other people witch then I wasn’t able to because of my anxiety and they did say in the phone it was the only time they had witch is fine but he told me to go over when he was teaching another girl how to use a treadmill I felt so uncomfortable I hat to walk out with embarrassment
Negative experience: This place is a nightmare to try and book a swimming session. Phone never gets answered I tried for 2 hours today on line and on the ap!!!
Fantastic experience: Staff very helpful car parking charges now apply but you can register your car registration for 2free hours if using the centre.blue badge holders no charge if displaying badge properly car park monitored by parking attendants .check the website for more details.best to book type of fitness session.can cancel upto 2hrs without financial penalty
Negative experience: In January I picked up an infection in my leg which I believe was from the swim area and spent eleven days in hospital, yesterday after three months I returned to take up swimming three times a week but was horrified to find the place was dirty, scum marks around the pool shower with hair on the floor someone told me there is no cleaners there at the moment due to working dispute, hope this is addressed soon until then sadly I wouldn’t be using it
Positive experience: Wasn't given information about the lockers from reception when used the pool for the first time . No coin operated lockers any more . you have to take a lock with you .
Fantastic experience: Interesting. Clean place, warm. Not far from the center.
Positive experience: The staff are lovely! The gym is very well kitted out. I enjoy gym fit HIIT, pilates and yoga there
Negative experience: Staff don't answer the phone this is not new was like this before covid
Fantastic experience: Friendly sports centre, offering classes and swimming for people of all abilities. Also, reasonably priced memberships with no contract.
Negative experience: My son has one to one swimming lessons through a charity as he has hearing loss. Since COVID halo Bridgend will only allow one to one lessons for the children that pay. This is discrimination. So far they are not willing to help and my son has now missed out for a year and half of lessons because he has a hearing loss. Awful.
Negative experience: Alright gym but lacks quite a lot of equipment. Please get a squat rack
Negative experience: Cafe staff unprofessional and inattentive. Very poor customer service. Our presence felt like an intrusion.
Fantastic experience: It's a good gym here.. can also go for a swim afterwards as there's a swimming pool all in the same building so bargain lol
Fantastic experience: Great help from the staff, clean and friendly.
Fantastic experience: Open after Covid restrictions, may have to book with your service organisation.
Positive experience: Pleasant surroundings, helpful staff. Food choice was poor, only 1 pack of sandwiches to be had at early lunchtime, and the cafe was empty. Had a cup of tea which was awful.... so I left most of it.
Negative experience: The phone number must be wrong. As for three years they have not answered it once! Shocking
Negative experience: 0/10 for answering phone. Useless Women behind desk clueless
Positive experience: Great experience with our group Inclusability. Staff were welcoming and understanding.
Thank you for leaving a great review. Your group 'Inclusability' sounds interesting. What is this group about? From: Marketing team at Halo
Fantastic experience: Amazing feel so happy that the pool is open.♀️♀️♀️♀️
Fantastic experience: This is great leisure centre. Staff are always helpful. It's not busy since you have to book your slots. Plenty to do.
Negative experience: Staff are very rude but the place was very clean.
Fantastic experience: Great class Lbt good to be back all covid safe
Fantastic experience: Good family fun .swimming play area good combination
Fantastic experience: Nice to be back teaching classes. And a well layed out and easy for members to return with confidence. Well done those who attended this morning
Positive experience: Have not been to gym for a workout in over 4 months. I for one cannot wait to get back to the gym and rid myself of the 18 kgs, l have gained. Confined to a wheelchair does make it more difficult to workout, counting the days, hours and minutes.
Fantastic experience: Staff are friendly and helpful. They are keeping on top of clearing the gym which was reassuring with this virus going around. You can book into the gym or sports hall which has a gym in it, limited times available for the sports hall. The sports hall is very quiet, never seen many in there.
Fantastic experience: My favourite place to work out. Always clean and the staff is very helpful and friendly.
Fantastic experience: Had an amazing reflexology session with Diane. Everything was brilliant from start to finish. A lovely welcome. Room was excellent. Nice and warm and calming. Diane explained everything and discussed my medical history. I felt very comfortable and relaxed. 5*
Negative experience: Went to "Quiet" swimming session last night and it was anything but. Floats in the pool, kids screaming and messing around. This is not the first time that this has happened, I did mention it to the girl on reception and she was polite and said it would get reported to be fair to her. The point is the amount of money that members pay for this place is not reflected in the standards of cleanliness or service that it provides in general.
Hi Melanie, thank you for taking the time to leave us a review. We are sorry that the Quiet session wasn't as planned on your visit and will remind the Lifeguard of the arrangements for the Quiet session so this doesn't happen in the future. The Quiet time session is : 1. We make the following small adjustments to create a welcoming, sensory friendly, gentle and relaxed experience. 2. There will be no public announcements on the tannoy system (except in an emergency) 3. No music 4. Lower capacity so fewer swimmers in the pool 5. No jumping or diving and no shouting or Lifeguard whistles (except in an emergency) Reducing sensory distractions supports a feeling of safety, peace and calm which we hope will encourage people with dementia and those with autism and their families or simply someone wanting a quieter low key session to enjoy swimming. If you do experience any issues during your session, please notify the Lifeguard on shift so that they can address the issue. We value your feed back and take customer comments seriously as this helps us improve our service to you. We hope to see you soon. Thank you. Halo Team
Positive experience: Friendly staff , good range of equipment and a pleasent place to work out ! Downsides of the gym would be a large number of youngsters using the free weights section can't seem to put weights back and expect others to tidy up after them , very little respect from them , other than that it's not too busy and has a nice atmosphere !
Fantastic experience: Lovely place to relax and useer friendly. A great place for family
Fantastic experience: Great gym, lots of up to date cardiovascular machines. Not a great section of weight lifting machines. The climbing wall looks small if you are a keen climber I would look elsewhere but for beginners it's perfect. The library and toilet soft play looks good but I haven't used it so can't comment. You have to pay for parking, it's quite cheap. Pool is good but small, not the best for lane swimming, mainly for family/kids.
Thanks for the review Chris, keep it up :)
Fantastic experience: You can have the best equipment, the best facilities but it's the quality of the staff that really make the place. Bridgend staff go above and beyond to give you the very best that they can. The only way to get the best is to give your best, what ever class or exercise you choose the staff will be there to aid and guide you
Thanks for the great review Bob! Keep up the good work
Negative experience: Took my grandaughter to police open day had to take her to use the washroom has i was walking through the corridors was shocking i understand its used everyday but it looked like it hadn't been cleaned in months. Then the toilet was absulutely shocking !! If she wasnt desperate i would of walked out not only did they smell disgusting i had to clean the toilet with tissue before i put her on there and wouldn't let her touch anything. Its the absulute worse i seen them . They take enough money surely you could get desent cleaners! PLEASE SORT IT OUT THINK OF PEOPLE HEALTH!
Negative experience: Been using the hydro gym for a few months, loved it, everything I could wish for fantastic staff, this place has the cleanest toilets but the changing facilities are absolutely appalling, the dust is now ground in dirt, there are dirt marks on the cubicle walls which have been there for 4 months people wear their outside shoes in the shower area and pool side. Parents of the children in the swimming classes walk around with phones in their hands in the changing rooms and pool side, there doesn't seem to be any concern that they could be taking photos of children, after bringing this up with the company, I was told by the duty manager that you cant stop people using their phones, well duty manager, yes you can, as it's your property, you dictate the rules as to where people use their phones, people manage not to use them in a cinema or a church or at a workplace. I looked up the company's policies online it states that no one should take a camera onto the premises without their permission, if this is the case, then everyone is breaking the rules!
Fantastic experience: Lovely happy with the place
Positive experience: We've been coming here weekly for a while now.. kids have swimming lessons and sometimes spend time in the play area. Fairly priced, staff friendly. Car park free after 4pm. Although I agree that the changing rooms have an unpleasant smell and need cleaning more often.
Fantastic experience: Great fun at this pool. Was nice to take my daughter on the big slide with me, was expecting to be told "no sorry, its too dangerous". She loved it!!! Also by far the wettest pool i have ever been to, an ive been in many wet pools in my time, awesome stuff
Negative experience: Quite rude personnel. The swimming pool is just recreational you cannot actually swim and the saunas could use a good clean
Fantastic experience: Great facilities
Negative experience: the pool is not 25m for training is just for fun with a lovely slider
Fantastic experience: I previously left a poor review of this place, the cleanliness was very much substandard. In the last 6-9 months it has dramatically improved. Visible weekly regimes are now in place to combat tidemarks, and the little "sandpits" that used to gather in the corners. Changing rooms and showers are better too, but filthy customers are to blame for aberrations there, staff just can't keep up, and shiny as it all looks, it's all based on a 1970s building infrastructure, and so the plumbing sometimes has a wobbly. Water is quite cloudy, not sure if that's down to high chlorine, not a problem for me but might be for those with allergies or dramatic hair colours.
Fantastic experience: Hydro gym was amazing not so much with the car parking as its always full but when in side pool not so many there so cars just park there for the fun of it...
Fantastic experience: Mostly use the library these days. Love the booths they have added, very handy for meetings. lovely coffees in the cafe. Visited the pool recently, was clean and had a good amount of floaties. Had my sons party in the soft play area one year, was a very easy process.
Negative experience: Awful.A Bank holiday and sessions with between 15 and 17 let in.Flume not working.Wave pool not working upstairs cafe closed. Run down and a disgrace to Bridgend .Worst centre I have ever been.in .Come to Warwickshire to see how to manage facilities.
Positive experience: Great facilities and services
Positive experience: loads to do for the kids, swimming, park, library etc.
Fantastic experience: Fantastic place to spend the day. Free swimming! Who can complain about that. Staff are very pleasant, friendly and helpful. Thoroughly enjoy taking the children there for numerous activities and events . And not too expensive, either.
Fantastic experience: EXCELLENT FOR ALL
Negative experience: Took our little boy swimming today and I have to say the changing rooms were absolutely disgusting. They were smelling of wee, the tops of the drains were coming off, hair and muck all over the floor and the top of the bin is covered in gunk. The wave machine was not working and we were told they have to drain the entire pool and dig out the footings to try and fix it. The carpet outside the changing rooms has not been hoovered for ages it is stinking. The whole place should be shut down for a deep clean and they have the cheek to charge people to use the facilities . Absolutely vile.
Fantastic experience: Got everything there for all ages
Fantastic experience: Great gym
Fantastic experience: Friendly staff, plenty of activities
Positive experience: This is a well presented location I didn't actually take advantage of any of the Sporting facilities or child play facilities as I was in attending an event in one of the rooms. My main criticism would be but it didn't have anywhere to put wet umbrellas and dump coats which meant the latter had to sit on the back of your chair and you lend against it which became uncomfortable throughout the day. I'm not sure what the arrangement was with regards to tea and coffee making facilities but the canister with coffee in had just a dozen individual sachets for a room of over 60 people and the milk was in a jug but there was no means to keep it chilled and no cover on that job to protect it from any bugs or germs. Also there was a small pedal bin which when people were throwing away the sugar wrappers the coffee wrappers and the paper cups it very quickly became overflowing and there was no attempt to empty or replenish anything during the day which meant after lunch there was more debris left on the table. I'm not sure if this has to do with the venue or the organisers of the event but there was no signage throughout the Venue until you got right outside the room they were using and we were told by the organisers that they had not been allowed to put signage elsewhere so that is something that may be best to dressed as I was not the only person who queued up to ask a member of the reception staff where I needed to go and a few signs would have directed people without the need to involve any other members of the centre stuff
