Total Fitness Prenton: Opinions
Fantastic experience: Take my little boy to the swimming lessons there, Lovely staff, the place is nice and clean, and the swimming instructors are lovely, the gym looks fab and the pool and facilities are always clean and working. They also have a womans section too! Seems a nice gym to join, considering joining myself !
Positive experience: Just done a free trial day. Had loads of space and machines with great pool and hydropool so not waiting to use anything. Loved the place. Only downside was equipment didn't seem to have Internet to watch TV while exercising, ladies changing rooms were freezing, spin dryer for costumes was broke and it was the only 1 there and never got sent written quote to join despite asking him to send it to me by email. Getting dressed after swimming in freezing room has put me off aswell as yearly membership commitment.
Fantastic experience: Always a go-to place for fitness
Fantastic experience: Facilities are huge. Gym on multiple levels with all the equipment you could ever need. Three pools, 25m, 12.5m and a hydrotherapy pool. As well as multiple saunas, a steam room and a sunarium. The staff were all very kind too. They also have a cafe inside which looks very nice and have classes and activities for members to attend. Overall an excellent fitness centre
Fantastic experience: Great gym 3 pools friendly staff never too busy would deffo recommend
Negative experience: Terrible gym
Fantastic experience: Very professional gym, great staff!
Fantastic experience: Does what it says in the tin. The only gym in 15 years I've been to with everything you need. You get what you pay for. Simple and worth it.
Fantastic experience: staff are great the hold the place together.Head office and the holding company would be screwed with out Steve and his team in Prenton.
Negative experience: Cafe ?? Will NOT cook food, always an excuse from the male person who runs the cafe. Why he can't or won't cook but can only serves Drinks makes no sense. Might as well just get a drinks machine and serve yourself. Very disappointing
Negative experience: Just been a member for 2 weeks and regret it already. Will persevere for 12 months...
Negative experience: Premium cost, budget service. Unlike other gyms, it’s not 24 hours. Pool equipment, including the sauna and hydropool, is frequently closed, yet you still pay the full price with no compensation offered. Funny how they still take your money. ♂️ The running track is poorly designed—people cross it to access machines, often distracted by their phones, making it unusable and dangerous. On the plus side, the place is clean, the showers are usually nice and hot, and parking is usually okay. The staff are helpful, chatty, and friendly.
Fantastic experience: Always clean and tidy, and the staff are very friendly
Positive experience: Good gym with pool. Friendly staff
Positive experience: It's a good well equipped gym, training pool, heated kids pool (which usually is split in half for the private swimming lessons), hydro pool and sauna. Bit more of a posers gym than the usual ones. Very expensive as well but more amenities than usual.
Negative experience: This my experience. That manager terrible man . When took my payment then he never never give respect us . First aim money then talk too much tool and term condition, too many times I went try take to manager, manager never meet me . Every time neglected me from this staff .i wasupset .Other staff have said “ he not here “but manager in ,they telling lie me . First day paid next day my issue know me . Bt they said no refund or no cancellation. This is not my false manager false, be careful ful when you pay . And pool security also shouted with my kids my kids also upset, I went to talk management they never listen. Me and kids neglected that staff they never refund my money. All places any issues refund money but Prenton terrible.I never met that like awful people. Bad customer service
Negative experience: Harsh review as I wasn't actually able to utilize the facilities. That being said, I arranged for a day visit to view and try out the gym before commiting to a fixed membership. This was arranged via their website and then contact with a sales rep. Come the day of the visit, I was told I couldn't enter the gym as the sales details don't store on the system anywhere, and the rep whom I was in contact with hadn't turned up for work yet. I was simply advised to wait in the restaurant in hopes that this individual may turn up with no insight as to when this may be, or facilitated with any other options. I waited 10 minutes before leaving and going to a different gym, and as you may have already guessed, I have no intention of returning to this gym sadly. Bad customer service is the key driver for losing my custom
Negative experience: Horrible man very unfriendly and ugly. Roided up needs to get a life In prenton
Fantastic experience: Great gym, has everything you need to workout and relax, the pool is brilliant along with the sauna and steam Room..
Fantastic experience: Lots of great equipment and a fab hydrotherapy pool. Will become a more regular goer as my recovery improves
Fantastic experience: Greatly appreciate this place helps me alot
Positive experience: Good gym but needs more yoga mats.
Positive experience: Generally ok, although people have a habit to remove the weight pins in the machines
Fantastic experience: Most staff are extremely helpful, nice, clean facilities, which is appreciated. Love that the whole family can go, including our 9 year old and our teens
Fantastic experience: Great gym, staff are always friendly. Squash courts have recently been refitted and the standard of the equipment is good.
Fantastic experience: Good gym
Fantastic experience: The gym is huge with loads of different areas to choose from to work out in. Lots of free weights and equipment to choose from, including big open areas and a running track. The locker rooms are pristine, along with the rest of the pool area. There are 3 swimming lanes (kid free), a huge hydra pool and loads of sauna/steam room type options. Really pleased I decided to get a membership here.
Positive experience: I attend the baby swimming (with my youngster). The facilities are clean, the staff are friendly and the small pool is nice and warm. I can't comment on the other facilities, as I haven't used them.
Fantastic experience: Great gym, plenty of equipment to use, machines / free weights etc, a running track, swimming pools, jacuzzi, steam room and saunas. Helpful friendly staff. Been going for about 3 years now, it is more expensive than a lot of other gyms but I feel its worth it as machines/equipment are abundant and clean unlike some other gyms I've been to.
Negative experience: I have been a member of this gym for 20 years, but over the past year things have been going downhill. It started with Total Fitness selling off a third of the carpark to Starbucks. It s now getting difficult to park at busy times. The repair or replacement of broken equipment is taking longer and longer even small things like the hairdryers and the poolside clocks are left broken for months on end. Maybe it's time to start looking around at other gyms, especially with the recent increase in membership prices.
Positive experience: Great gym for the money when you consider the pool/ sauna/ steam/ hydro included. Just wish the opening hours were longer…
Fantastic experience: Very helpful staff nothing is ever a problem and always welcoming
Fantastic experience: Good equipment & nice facilities friendly staff
Negative experience: This chain of hospitality is awful. Our circumstances changed with vet bills each month due to a diabetic dog and someone close passing away, a lot each Month down at the moment, but they would not cancel our membership, we did not have proof of finances as it is on our bank statements and this was not acceptable to them, they refused to take our circumstances into consideration and still take our membership out every month on different days to catch you off guard!. Short of changing banks and we’ve not even used our membership since signing up last December they refuse to do anything. I’ve worked in hospitality at a few different companies and never came across such an awkward uncaring company before, they just want your money and don’t care about anything else I would not recommend them to anyone, save your money and go elsewhere where if your circumstances change it will be easier to cancel your membership. Please no reply about contact the company, I have twice and you’re still taking payments! My rent money this morning. So people need to know what you’re like do thanks for nothing Total fitness, total something alright but it’s not fitness!!
Negative experience: Was a member for 20 years and asked head office for a loyalty price as i have introduced at least 50 people since joining myself and told no by a very rude member of staff.
Fantastic experience: The air con is so terrible that it feels like there is none that they even supply. And the cafe is so stupid because they close at 3pm for food but finish everything else at 10 past 3 so if you need food after your class and it ends after 3 pm you cannot get any because off the really stupid times
Negative experience: Canceled my membership June 2022, still getting non payment notices. Trying to contact this mob on line is near impossible .
Fantastic experience: A well equipped and presented gym with running track and 2 pools. Lots of different classes mainly during work hours. Nice staff and clients
Fantastic experience: I only use the pool facilities so I can’t comment on the gym itself. The changing rooms are always clean, they’re very spacious and modern and have plenty of lockers. The main swimming pool is a great size and I love that it’s organised by speed so I don’t feel like I’m in anyone’s way when swimming slower
Positive experience: Was great until they removed the child friendly (younger than 11) space on the ground floor. But the gym is laid back and friendly and is pleasant enough for new or experienced gym users.
Negative experience: #totalfitness maybe work on maintaining the building as well…another morning of no access due to a maintenance issue…if it’s not electrical problems or a leak, or staff not turning up. You don’t open that early in comparison and yet that’s the fifth/sixth time in a matter of months of turning up for the opening and not getting in. 20/30 people turned away this morning and no warning…you have an app/everyone’s details…surely a message could be sent out?! Costs up on a regular basis but service levels down…as previously mentioned in reviews it’s top of the prices around yet open less and falling apart!
Negative experience: Had to leave!! Nothing was working. Showers, pool and hydropool were all freezing mid winter. Shame cos I loved it prior to about November when everything went downhill!
Positive experience: 1. Prior to covid, the gym used to have various classes in the evening. Now there are none after 18.30. Hard luck if you work late. 2. The gym operates a booking system for classes. Unfortunately, the system is a farce. Many times, classes are shown to be full, but there are often spare places because people cannnot be bothered cancelling their bookings. No action is ever taken against these selfish people. On some other classes, they can have far more people than the booking system allows. No one ever checks the names to find out who hasn’t booked. Management needs to be more proactive in sorting these problems out. 3. Staff in general are sociable and helpful. Just wish they and management would take the time to tell members to replace weights and equipment that have been used.
Negative experience: It’s such a shame that the air con is so terrible. It would be a good gym if it weren’t for this. I’ve just cancelled my membership because it’s simply too hot.
Positive experience: Great gym, I’m there most days. There is hardly ever a queue for any of the equipment, it’s always a clean environment and the music is good. It’s nice to see recently there has been loads of renovations and new equipment being installed which makes the place look even better however I wish a bit of money would be invested into the air conditioning. Most other gyms on the Wirral are pretty cold and this makes you want to work out more and get a sweat on. You don’t have to even exercise to get a sweat on at Total Fitness and this makes it really uncomfortable to exercise in. The summer months are absolutely hell. Please can this be looked into
Negative experience: If you want to use the actual gym and leave aside things like sauna, hot tube, etc is by far far the worst gyms I have ever visited. - Place is a mess every time. Plates, dumbels, cable machine attachments, benches, etc all over the place. - Many of the machines have been upgraded and are ok (they used to be old and rusty) but dumbells are all teared and never ever ordered. - A stupidly massive amount of 25kg plates everywhere but none of the other ones. -There are no attachments for the machines or important parts of the machines are just missing. Going the whole 2 floor gym many times looking for a rope attachment, pin or carabiners. - 5 benches in the whole gym... But 300 cardio machines. If you just want to work out go to some more cheaper gym.
Fantastic experience: Love saunas and cold water jets !! Also, they got a proper running track not only machines!
Positive experience: I use this gym for the squash courts only. There are two courts but can be busy, so sometimes difficult to book. The courts are rarely cleaned, which is a problem.
Fantastic experience: I like in general but all people coming from street in dirty clothes and shoes and going straightaway to the gym without changing (( no respect ( no rules no restrictions ( For health and safety reasons its forbidden!! Cold water in swimming pool & very often steamed room is close ( I hope you can change it) Thank you
Fantastic experience: Amazing gym and cafe. Very welcoming. Fantastic equipment. Huge space. Lovely staff. Hot jacuzzi and sauna that makes you feel brand new #1
Positive experience: Good gym with swimming pool, sauna, steam room, hydro pool and undergoing some much needed renovations of the gym area. Hopefully they get to the spa area next. Changing areas are of grave concern as there is very limited space for children to change and adults and children are forced to change in the same open areas, this makes me very uncomfortable and I would never have joined had I known this.
Negative experience: We cancelled our membership in July. On joining the gym it was great but after a few months we regretted it. Partner using the women’s area found a couple of men using that area on more than one occasion. Gym equipment was broken and no date of getting fixed. Hydro pool was out of action for a while. Certain reception staff need to learn to smile, they are first point of contract for any business. Instead one regular receptionist is rude, ignores you when you ask for help the list can go on. The equipment was in dire need of updating, but the most annoying this was people not putting the equipment away after using it.
Negative experience: Booked swim in small pool with toddler grandbaby. Had to wait as was full. Pool manager really couldnt care less. Had to wait till someone got out. Why hav a booking system when other people just go without booking
Positive experience: Nice swimming bit and sauna. Wasnt into the gym as looked like Mr muscle against people who have all the time In the world
Fantastic experience: What is the material of the running track part
Fantastic experience: Wonderful team who are so dedicated to the kids that go there. My son spent 2 years there and we have only good things to say.
Fantastic experience: Great facilities, usually can use all the equipment I want without much waiting.
Negative experience: I have a family pass which I believe I was miss sold. We pay £121 per month, what do I get in return? I don't know. When the member of staff sold us this, he told us there are multiple things for my kids to do, various gym classes for my kids, swimming and much more.i was excited to start going there. On my first entry as a member they decided to tell me my kids aren't allowed to use anything upstairs, there's no classes at all since Covid and they have no plans to bring any back, my kids can't use the treadmill or anything. The only thing we're allowed to do is use the swimming pool and have access to a "family area" with all broken equipment and a ping pong table. Absolutely shocking
Negative experience: It used to be very good. Unfortunately when they become very family friendly the pool became another jacuzzi. Two lanes are occupied by kids, another two by fast swimmers but they often mixed up with someone who came first time or believes he is a fast swimmer. The third part of the pool and the last two lanes are dedicated to middle speed swimmers but it is all mixed up with people who can't swim, have walk difficulties or just walk in water and chat in pairs. Unfortunately, when kids finish (20:00 at Thursday) and release the first two lines dedicated to slow swimmers nobody goes there because the entry ladder is at the end of the pool. So people who cant swim do not bother, people who cant walk will not go that far and people who are not familiar with the pool do not read the signs and have no clue what FAST, MIDDLE and SLOW lane is. I am a bit disappointed looking for a pool where I can actually swim.
Fantastic experience: All the staff are kind and everything is clean and easy to use.
Positive experience: Good gym. Recommend to all. However I really miss the steamroom. Still out of service
Positive experience: Pleasant surrounding not a bad choice of classes lots of equipment
Fantastic experience: My favourite place to train has everything you need in one place. Its massive so even when its peak times you can always find something to use. Nice pool and spa facilities and the staff are nice.
Fantastic experience: Total fitness is a fantastic gym to workout it also has a hydrotherapy pool, a swimming pool, a sauna, and a steam room. It is well worth the money and the staff are extremely helpful and friendly. I would recommend this gym to anyone. They also do swimming lessons for your kids.
Fantastic experience: Disappointed as the plunge pool is no longer in use. Overall a good gym. The sauna, steam room and swimming pool are a great additional extra to help keep you focused on a post workout treat for the body. Membership can be a bit expensive.
Positive experience: Excellent facilities, new equipment, large pool, sauna and hydrotherapy pool.
Fantastic experience: Great place! You can find all what you need to build your muscles and tone your skin ☆☆☆☆☆
Positive experience: Equipment needs updating but overall great place
Negative experience: Interestingly I posted a review about 3 weeks ago that has now been removed. The review offered genuine thoughts for improvements as well as shortcomings. I will keep this one short: 1. Broken gym equipment(Constantly and prolonged period of times) 2. Ridiculous temperature showers 3. Running track ripped (trip hazard) 4. Dusty facility, dust build-up on sills/clocks etc. 5. Leaky roof Honestly, don't give this shill of a company your money - they do not care about their members nor value you. The staff are generally pleasant and polite though.
Positive experience: only been here 2 weeks and the amount of equipment that is broke is ridiculous, all 4 stair climbers out of action tonight
Fantastic experience: Shame men can't treat toilets like their own, or perhaps they do!
Negative experience: I visited to enquire about membership costs. I wanted to take my 2 year old great granddaughter swimming. I asked about a family membership that would allow any family member to take her. Unfortunately this is not available. It would require 3 adult memberships plus a child membership costing over 120 pds per month which is exorbitant. I also wanted to use the disabled toilet but it was locked. It was some time before the key could be found I will not join the Total Fitness
Negative experience: Broken Mchines, run down facilities, not enough free weights for machines, poor lead times on repairs Air Con never works, Gym to hot..always, changing room hot and sweaty to get changed, drinking fountains not working, or missing
Positive experience: Friendly and professional staff. Never have to queue for weights or equipment. Really nice pool and spa set up. Let down big time by the showers which can be like pouring lava down your back depending how many people are using them and they need more regular cleaning. Overall it’s still a top gym.
Positive experience: Decent gym, good atmosphere but it's really being left behind now. The equipment and amount of it is lacking and in desperate need of an upgrade. Very expensive compared to Empowered and Body Tec which seem to be better equipped and offer more value.
Positive experience: Good all-round gym. If your focus is strength training, then there are better gyms about, but if you like a bit of everything (strength, cardio, classes, swimming etc.) then you are very well catered for here. Just a shame they don't do day passes.
Negative experience: Lots of equipment not working. Doesn't appear to be maintained. No tvs working for whole week, second week in Jan 22 ???
Negative experience: I joined a few months ago for my mental health at first then I was not to good wanted to charge me for the couple of times I didn’t go can never get in hydro pool every time I phoned up about this and to sort it out no one calls you back al it takes you to ring them back
Fantastic experience: love this gym! The staff are all amazing and the other gym users are all really lovely too. Its got a great mix of young and old all using the facilities which I think is a massive positive as it produces a very welcome and inclusive gym atmosphere Like Answer
Positive experience: I regularly go here to use gym and swim. Has a good range of classes some of which are difficult to actually get a place on.
Fantastic experience: Great pool good swim sauna
Fantastic experience: Welcoming and helpful staff. Great space and equipment. Will add few more 25kg and 20kg plates so you don't have to keep looking for it.
Fantastic experience: Total fitness Prenton is a great fitness centre it has all the amenities one could want. I would recommend it to both young and old without hesitation.
Fantastic experience: Massive gym.nice staff but you find half of the saunas and Jacuzzis broken and you have to spend 5 min after each set trying to find a plate specially if you are looking for 2.5 kg or 5kg but I like this gym anyways. ((Update)) They have bought a huge amount of equipments and plates so I change my rating to 5star .
Negative experience: Looks better then it is.. Its just like a hyped up pure gym.. Not enough plates and weights to fulfill an efficient workout
Positive experience: It’s an amazing gym with all the machines, lessons (Zumba, Yoga, Pilates, speed indoors..) and trainers (personal trainers available at an extra cost). Got saunas, steam Room, cool pool, two swimming pools and a massive jacuzzi ! All included in a reasonable membership price! Swimstars do swimming lessons for kids there, no need to be a member to use them.
Fantastic experience: Great gym, with great equipment, beautiful pools and helpful staff. A nice coffee shop inside if you want to relax a little bit.
Positive experience: The clubs saving grace is the space and relative amount of equipment. The biggest disappointment was that over the lock-down, nothing was fixed or restored or even cleaned properly. On return, there where carabiner clips missing from the cable machines, ripped leather on benches etc, dust on the clocks and sills.. Weight plates not organised onto the racks - now I understand this is as much members responsibility as staff but over the lock-down it would have been easy to achieve. The air conditioning keeps breaking and the humidity from the pools on top of more humid days we've had recently have made the gym quite stagnant and hot while training, can be unpleasant. The staff turnover in the past has been a lot, the current staff are a real 50/50 bunch. They could remember that this is a client-facing role and it is not difficult to smile and interact every so often. Even tidying weights away and making sure areas are safe, only seems to be a job responsibility for new staff until they are comfortable enough to sit behind the front desk, restock the fridge or wander. Honestly, it could be a fantastic facility, deep clean - including sills, clocks, roof beams, repair and lubricate the broken equipment and fix the air con. I'd suggest the staff could also do from better management, but without knowing the inner workings this is just an assumption - they fix these the price is justified if not more. Incredible, the inconsistency between Total Fitness' in my experience, Wilmslow is fantastic, Prenton Acceptable, Chester questionable.
Positive experience: It’s a fairly decent gym, however not 100% sure it justified the price tag The main thing that attracted me to the gym was the indoor running track. Main issue for me is there is constantly people crossing the track, or doing weight training on there. Pretty dangerous in my mind, as the track is already limited in space due to cross trainers being put onto one of the lanes
Positive experience: Been open 2 weeks had notice from government of when could open. Still things not working the question is why ???. ALL the jets need to be working in the hydro pool. Booking the pool needs to be done per lane, as some lanes are busy and some are not. Unfair for a slow swimmer to use the fast lanes. Limit the numbers via which lane they use.
Fantastic experience: Fabulous, again, my grandchildren attend for swimming lessons, safe, clean Fabulous
Fantastic experience: Lots of equipment but could have more facilities for calisthenics. Friendly atmosphere
Negative experience: Really enjoyed going to the gym prior to reopening from lockdown 1.0, we didn't find that there were strong measures in place/enough cleaning facilities. I found out I was pregnant during this time and did not feel safe attending the Gym. Our contract was due to end in January however they are now saying we cannot cancel as it is 12 payments not 12 months, even though this is what we signed up to and refused to show us the paper work stating this. It is not our fault that the gym has had to shut and we are now stuck paying for a gym membership that I will not be able to use when lockdown ends due to it not feeling like a safe environment or being early postpartum (which ever comes first). The staff have not been helpful and have been very dismissive, happy to take your money but not help you when you need it which is disgusting considering the price you pay to be a member.
Fantastic experience: Excellent facilities. The pool area is the best thing about this place. Two pools. Sauna, steam room and hydro pool
Positive experience: Jacuzzi wasn’t very warm compared to normal, some children were playing on the equipment and were not checked by parents or staff - could be Covid risk! Showers and changing room very cold. Not up to normal standards- hope it was just a hiccup and going to be sorted soon.
Positive experience: Whoever is in charge of the water temperature need to stick the temperature up in the main pool! Its bloody freezing ! I have not yet met a person who used that pool in such cold temperatures and actually liked it... If people would want to experience adrenaline in their blood they would go and soak themselves in River Mersey... not trying to enjoy their swimming experience.
Positive experience: Needs a very big update lots of equipment not up to scratch
Positive experience: Gym is decent but can get a bit crowded during peak times.
Positive experience: Just joined. Clean pool and changing area. Some equipment is off not sure why. There is plenty to do and lots of options for your workout.
Positive experience: Overall not a bad gym. Good selection of equipment and plenty of space. Some equipment seems tired but maintenance has improved over the last few years.
