Our comment from FitFit UK about Crystal Leisure Centre:
Crystal Leisure Centre in Stourbridge is a family-friendly destination that offers a variety of fun activities for all ages. The centre features two pools, including a leisure pool equipped with exciting slides, a wave machine, and a rapids area, making it a favorite among children and parents alike. Visitors often commend the vibrant atmosphere and the enjoyable experiences, with many families returning regularly.
However, guests have expressed some concerns regarding the cleanliness of the facilities, particularly in the changing rooms, which some found to be less than satisfactory. The water temperature in the leisure pool has also been mentioned as a downside, with several reviews noting that it can feel quite cold, especially for younger swimmers. Additionally, parking can be tricky, as many utilize the nearby Tesco car park, which offers limited free parking time.
Pros:
- Family-friendly atmosphere with fun water features.
- Two pools catering to different needs, including a designated area for younger children.
- Reasonably priced for a family visit.
Cons:
- Concerns over cleanliness in changing areas.
- Water temperature can be too cold for some guests.
- Parking limitations and difficulties.
Overall, while there are a few areas needing improvement, Crystal Leisure Centre remains a popular choice for families looking for a fun day out.
Crystal Leisure Centre: Opinions
Fantastic experience: Hasn't changed much since I came here over 25 years ago, but my kids loved it as much as I did back then.
Negative experience: So freezing cold my daughter's lips turned blue! Clearly trying to save money by not heating the pool sufficiently.
Positive experience: Good pool but there is the only one think makes me not to fo there anymore . Temperature of the water. Definetelly tooooooo cold. The rest is acceptable ( 80s standard, far from 21 century).
Fantastic experience: Take my son to soft play , not massive in there but really good , enough for him to do and keeps him busy for a couple of hours , there are drinks and snacks u can buy in there and just outside is the cafe if u want a bigger meal.
Fantastic experience: Great experience for me to enjoy a nice swim
Fantastic experience: We have attended a Family party at the pool. Was loads of kids and parents having fun. It was our first time, but we will definitely be back again. Music with DJ and relaxed atmosphere. Great time !
Fantastic experience: Took my 1 year old and my 9 year old they had a brilliant time
Positive experience: Great place to go with the family, Has a gym and two pools (25m & leisure) with a unisex changing village. The leisure pool has bubble machines, a wave machine, a water rapids system, a shallow, sea like entry area, and 2 slides (flumes), one for older kids and one for younger kids. It gets very busy during the school holidays due to Dudley's kids swim free program. We always go here during the holidays
Positive experience: An exciting experience for little ones, but the pool needs a thorough clean. It is dirty.
Fantastic experience: Always love a trip to Crystal. My grandchild insists we travel the 40 minutes rather than use pools in Birmingham. Discerning child!
Fantastic experience: Very enjoying. The steps to the slides etc could do with a really good clean but overall all is good.
Positive experience: The best local swimming pool for kids. Visited on a Sunday so it was busy but no queue to get in and kids had fun
Positive experience: It's good best in dudley borough however the fun stuff like waves a rapids take to long to come on
Positive experience: Visited on a Sunday and it was busy! There is lots to do at the pool, the slides are fun as is the rapids section! My 4 year old had a great time! The water was a bit cold though, my child was shivering by the end of it bless! Only thing I would say is there is no provides parking, but you can use the Tescos parking opposite and get 2 free hours.
Positive experience: My little girl loves it here, quite rare to find a pool with wave machines and giant slides nowadays. Only reason can't give it a 5starsvis because the changing facilities are getting a bit tired and could do with a good clean and refresh
Positive experience: Crystal Leisure Center is a lovely place. although sometimes the Wait times can be quite long. the pools rapids are really strong but they're verry hard to get out of. The Waves where VERRY HIGH just like my letters right there
Positive experience: Great experience and me and my family go every month at least once and me and my cousins love it, we love the rapids and the slides! The only thing stopping it from getting 5 stars is slightly outdated facilities and business.
Fantastic experience: We really enjoyed our first visit to the leisure pool today. Free parking is available at Tesco's for 2 hours.
Negative experience: Changing rooms were dirty, smelt of urine, rubbish all over the floors.. hygiene was terrible
Fantastic experience: My children absolutely love this swimming pool and we really appreciate the disability session as I can take all my children together and its quieter
Positive experience: Went today with three babies.. great swim and quiet because we chose to come during the disability swim because my daughter is deaf... Upon entering the changing rooms a family was rude and making comments about the staff not checking if we were disabled or not (super judge because not all disability are visible).. everything was going ok after that until the sound for the waves came on.. then about 2 seconds later the first wave hit.. we didn't get chance to move closer to the super shallows when a wave struck my sister and sent her flying along with her 8 month old baby.. they both went under the water three times before anyone could help... The life guards didn't even notice the struggle and if it wasn't for myself, rushing to help, my daughter's baby would have drowned... We were abit angry that no one even asked if we were ok, let only paid attention to us asking for help...
Negative experience: The Children enjoy swimming here however, the receptionist regularly gives out wrong times for swimming sessions and we have been turned away at the door multiple times despite calling prior to check public family swim sessions leaving the children disappointed.
Positive experience: We went family swim, pool is lovely with rapid, waves and quite a large shallow area for toddlers. Changing area and showers are clean. Downside is parking is terrible. The only place to park is Tesco car park and 2 hours is not enough with young kids to get them into pool, stay for the hour session and shower, dress and return to your car. Shame on Dudley council for not sorting out suitable parking
Positive experience: This is a well run leisure centre with many activities to choose from badminton, table tennis swimming etc sensible pricing but no parking on site but plenty of street parking and Tesco car park over the road.
Positive experience: Great for all the family, from small babies to adults, we all had a great time
Positive experience: Good swimming for kids, two water slides and a wave machine
Positive experience: One of the best council swimming pools I've been to. It's got a wave machine, 2 flumes, rapids, splash play, seating with bubbles. Very good for kids of all ages.
Fantastic experience: Great facilities and courses for children including climbing and swimming.Sarah at reception was incredibly helpful with my queries.
Fantastic experience: Exceptionally good place for kids, with slides, waves and warm water. Family friendly prices.
Positive experience: My children love this pool. We go every week. However, in the holidays the changing room can get very dirty !!!!
Fantastic experience: Me and my family love it here. Does need a little revamping in the changing area as always searching for spaces to change.
Negative experience: Have visited this leisure centre a few time over the last 3 months for swimming with kids, the kids do enjoy swimming here and the slides are a added bonus. The only thing that lets it down are some of the Receptionist who are not welcoming at all and behave in a rude way. I would go as far as saying there behaviour is either racisit towards none white customer or have not been trained very well in customer services. The lifeguards and other staff member are friendly and over all it is a good experience but first impressions stay with you and as I said Receptionist here are a let down.
Fantastic experience: We went there just as it opened at 12 noon and before the pool opened the view from the cafe lounge was amazed how well kept it was. Only took the one image before people came as photography rightly isn't allowed. But for families it is a fun pool. I hadn't been for several years, but the changing rooms have been upgraded and very well maintained. The pool area for it's age still looks good, the water was very warm and our grandchildren had a fabulous time. There were plenty of lifeguards on duty so very reassuring. We didn't go in the lane pool at the side of it for the serious swimmers but looked inviting. There are plenty of other activities on site here, so check the website for full details.
Fantastic experience: Really good place to take the kids for a swim, it has water slides, rapids, wave pool, and splash pad items all within it. Goof value aswell, family of 4 and it cost £22 and you get about an hour and a half ish.
Positive experience: We went as a mom and two children. The leisure pool was fab. Only issue was the hairdryers. Some of them didn't work. Recommend those who are coming with bags / towels etc to bring a £1 coin for lockers these will be returned when locker is free.
Fantastic experience: Great place for my 4yr grandson he loved it had 2 slides blue one ideal for his age there were waves every know and than had other equipment for kids which threw out water shallow water ideal for him changing rooms are huge and clean with with family rooms free 2hr parking at tesco opposite crystal centre staff were friendly overall great place
Fantastic experience: Taught my boy how to swim here. Been coming here most weeks for about 10 years
Negative experience: I drove all the way from worcester to take my son swimming here. I parked in the tesco's carpark. There was no option to book on line prior to going so we queued up for over an hour before giving up and leaving to go back home. I am at a loss why anyone thinks this is a good way to run a leisure centre. Management, just go on line and Google how Malvern splash run their booking system. Easy , no waiting and runs so smoothly.....No need for anyone to police it and no one disappointed. It's not rocket Science
Negative experience: Our otherwise pretty nice swim was sadly totally ruined by the incredibly loud, siren-like noise they repeatedly put on to remind people with different armbands it's their time to get out. For some reason this went off every 5-10 mins, despite being the last session of the day. It was annoyingly loud for me as an adult, let alone my 4yo, who barely managed 5 mins before it went off the first time. At the 2nd time of going off, barely 5 mins later when my son had just about started to calm, we asked if it would keep going off and whether it was necessary as by that time nobody new was coming in (last session of the day), the lifeguard said they'd been told they had to. I managed to swim a bit longer with my 7yo but my 4yo was having a total meltdown so my wife took him out. Really sad as the pool is otherwise nice, with a good toddler area and a great pair of slides, so really family friendly, except the frequent horrendous alarm-like sound makes it totally unsuitable for any young kids with moderately sensitive ears. Why they can't just use whistles (which every lifeguard has anyway) like pretty much every other pool does is beyond me. A total waste of £22, and an afternoon as we'd purposefully driven to Stourbridge to find a 'fun' pool.
Negative experience: The place is fine as a whole but as I went to purchase a drink it didn’t work, so the maintaince bloke came down and was so unprofessional how he spoke and how he went about it I think it’s disgusting. Just because you got called to do YOUR JOB doesn’t mean you can speak to me like manure and then approach me with no badge so I couldn’t identify you worked there and then proceeded to speak to me in disrespectful way. Fix up
Positive experience: Overall really fun but gets far too busy
Negative experience: Hair dryers don’t work also very unsafe , well 1 out of ten! Filthy …… no wonder there Facebook page limited and not allowing reviews! What does that say!!! Oooh also showers don’t all work and causing hygiene issues or concerns. Slides cool when the signals to go work!!!!!! Dear me
Fantastic experience: Kids loved it here, hasnt changed since i was there age
Fantastic experience: Was good friday night kids loved the floats and disco was a good treat for them after a well behaved week at school
Fantastic experience: Great SEN session avalaible. Pretty busy though. I'm glad I could get on with some work in the spectator cafe area whilst hubby and the kids had a splash about
Positive experience: Not been to the 25m pool for some time. Absolutely disgusted that the mature swim rate has been removed. Making it a hike in price of £2.00 from the previous cost. Hardly encouraging seniors to keep fit is it. Is the mature swimmers rate likely to return?
Negative experience: Absolutely disgusting behaviour from staff members! Absolutely appalled by the comments from staff here today! Set an alarm at 4.50pm to say 10mins to get out Even though people Paid till 5pm He Alarm is going off and was politely asked to be turned off due to a child not coping well with the high pitch noise. They then turned the alarm back on and continued to laugh at the man and the boy while the boy was holding his ears and complaining We then asked the staff to turn it off and he laughed in our faces We explained there is an autistic child and got replied with " well he should of come to the disabled session then" Bearing in mind the disabled session was cancelled due to unsafty in the pool We then asked the man for his name whitch he refused to give us while laughing with his colleagues Absolutely disgusting behaviour and will be making a formal complaint to dudley! (To that boy I hope if you see this post you feel some sort of remorse and I pray to God you never reproduce)
Fantastic experience: Great place for the kids they really enjoyed it, sessions are a bit short though an hour, we would not stay for 2 but an hour and a half would be better as the kids are just getting into it when we are told it's over but otherwise great
Negative experience: We visited crystal yesterday and paid for a family of four to use the swimming fun pool. Very disappointed with the lack of hygiene. The tiles were covered in grime and the top of the yellow slide was mouldy. Debris floating in the pool. This place needs a serious revamp. Great idea to go as a family and staff were friendly, just such a shame about the conditions of the pool.
Fantastic experience: Only for lessons son loves them haven't used other pool since I was 15 now 32 soooo
Fantastic experience: Great Water Park with slides and other water features. The pool and changing rooms are very clean and well looked after by very kind staff. We prefer traveling 40 minutes that going to one of Birmingham Leisure Centers which are not very clean.
Positive experience: Over all really good the slides were amazing I haven't been there say for last 5 years my family took me the inly bad side was in the changing rooms there was a nappy well 2 and no one did anything about it
Fantastic experience: Local for my exercise classes. Shame pricing having to go up.. showers & changing rooms could do with good clean.. walls &thinks
Positive experience: A little pricey but worth it I guess my kids loved going swimming there we’d go again the pool was fun!
Fantastic experience: A really fun day out with my toddler. He loved the slides and the water pool and enjoyed the waves and the small circuit. One of the best pools to take toddlers to get them used to the water
Positive experience: Playing pickleball in large sports hall. Only problem was that it was reached via several flights of stairs and along rather bleak exposed brick corridors. Not very disable friendly. There is a lift but this is basic and there needs to be an indication of venue destinations inside.
Fantastic experience: Hadnt been here for years, so went during half term and ended up going twice!!. Parking was easy on both days, changing rooms were clean and tidy. I stayed in the upstairs viewing area..only downside was, you cant see which colour bands are being asked to leave the water, so it was bit of a guessing game as to when I should go down and meet the kids. But otherwise a great experience
Fantastic experience: Nice place with 2 pools, one for the family and one for the adults. Also has classes and many more
Positive experience: First visit since Covid. Much improved changing facilities. Hairdryer.showers toilets .Staff were helpful and showed me round.
Negative experience: Its good there but my rating is based on the lack of money spent. They need to put back into the leisure pool. Its exactly the same 20years ago. They could add extra slides in to reduce the cue wait times as waiting for the 2 slides takes up most of your time there.
Negative experience: When visited was to busy should of turned people away and the water was disgusting. Used to love coming here but won’t bother in future
Positive experience: I remember coming here as a kid (25 years ago); it hasn't changed. It is feeling dated, but it doesn't affect the enjoyment for the kids. Only thing I'd say is, for the price, an hour isn't long enough. We all said 2 hours would be too long, so 1 & 1/2 would be perfect. Nevertheless; we all had a great morning.
Positive experience: The pool and soft play are epic! Truly brilliant. Five stars! However, the changing rooms are so badly designed with nowhere to change a baby if the 2 changing rooms for families are occupied (it’s 90% families there). I had to stand around with my freezing baby in a queue of people with upset babies, which ruined the whole experience. It’s dangerous to change them in the small cubicles; if the door opened it would bump them on the head. And no space in the corridors as it’s so busy. They desperately need more family changing cubicles. Whoever signed off the design of the changing room clearly didn’t think about the needs of people who use the pool. So disappointing.
Negative experience: This pool is not a clean place. Kids running no one there to stop them. The change rooms very dirty and staff are so rude.
Fantastic experience: We're not from the area so only get to visit a few times a year. Kids really enjoy it. Not brave enough to go on the water slide yet but one day dagnammit! They have a disco there to, which we're hoping to attend very soon.
Positive experience: Car parking was difficult.Had to park in Tesco which gave us 2 hours so felt a bit rushed. Pool is lovely.Enjoyed the slides, waves and lazy river. At one time there seemed to be a lot of people in the pool so we got out before our alloted time.
Fantastic experience: Kids loved it, had an issue with the coffee machine and it was sorted out very quickly, will definitely be back
Positive experience: Great place for the kids and adults. It can be busy especially during the weekends and holidays. They have 2 slides there and my kids loves them, the waves are really good too. There is another normal swimming pool but I haven't been in there but looks decent. Only downfall is the changing rooms and showers can get a bit dirty. But other than that I would highly recommend this place especially for children.
Positive experience: Lovely big pool with shallow beach area which my 2 year old loved. Clean and plenty of changing rooms. However, the pool side is absolutely lethal! So so slippy! My little boy took two steps out of the changing rooms and went flying, whacking the back of his head off the floor. 10 minutes later, he did a full box split on the way up to the slide. After this, I made him hold my hand EVERY time we were walking round the edge - he went over a third time, but luckily he was holding my hand this time. I was shocked when I actually looked around that there wasn't a single sign warning about the slippy floor! I know it's common sense, but I didn't expect it to be like an ice rink!
Negative experience: Went to have family swim in the big pool with waves & flumes as on holiday, to find out they shut at 3pm to reopen the pool at 5pm. Can’t believe this, as pools I have been to are open all day for any swims. Not amused my two children are rather disappointed and wasn’t hanging around till 5pm as we travelled from Kidderminster to Stourbridge. We do have other plans on as well. Won’t be revisiting this pool again.
Fantastic experience: It's terrible honestly I couldn't even use a snorkel but on the bright side, the slides exist. Update: Nevermind this is the best place ever, if i think about it.
Positive experience: Nice place for kids (ideal as we were with our 3 yoa niece) but no use to serious swimmers. Clean, bright, well run, nice staff, all good.
Negative experience: 25m swimming pool is OK no outside light, no windows. Lanes are cramped and unable to use fins or paddle in the Adult lane swim.
Positive experience: Really fun and reasonable prices for kids, but it's just to cold for my 1 year old - 30 mins max and she's freezing in there - heat the water a bit please. Decent slides and a fantastic wave pool
Fantastic experience: We had a great time together with our 2-year old kid. Is a great place to have fun especially for the kids
Positive experience: Changing facilities are small and not enough family changing rooms either. Cleaning staff need to be on top of the cleanliness of the whole changing area smells of urine and rubbish left in cubicles. Not good hygiene at all. Kids enjoy themselves...
Positive experience: Too busy during the day. Overall clean and well managed. Lockers useful just hard to sort out by yourself. Really worth the value for money!
Negative experience: Shocking behaviour and attitude towards young primary school aged children during swimming lessons making them cry. The long term swimming coordinator left followed by the main swimming coach and the replacement has a very poor attitude and it has gone downhill ever since. Every week the majority of parents complain, it amazes me that this person still has a job doing this. I reallly would not recommend this place for swimming lessons.
Fantastic experience: Great leisure place with plenty of activities for kids of all needs and ages. Place is kept well clean, staff are fantastic. Shame the café got closed though as it was ideal for so many parents and staff.
Positive experience: Great for the kids ,we visited today, found you upgraded the changing rooms but there not enough family changing units , families are queuing to use them. Showers are lovely and warm, lovely and clean.
Fantastic experience: Fun as always. However very busy and rowdy session However this is not the fault of the leisure centre and I’m more than understanding as it was a school holiday
Positive experience: After spending many a Happy time at this place when younger and now with my own kids I can honestly say the place never gets older . although i was extremely disappointed today that when I went there that the cafe had closed . . this is unbelievable after a hour swimming it was always nice to go up to the cafe for food . made the experience more enjoyable. today how ever I with my kids had to walk around looking for a place just to sit and eat . .when you go to a place like crystals having food on offer is a must . . needs sorting out . .
Fantastic experience: Always enjoy the pool at CLC, water seems colder than normal but once you get in, its ok.... My 2yr old grandson loves it.
Fantastic experience: why swimming at 9:30. clean and warm Channing rooms (considering how cold you can be getting out the pool), well staffed, plenty of lockers in good condition, 4 family changing rooms maybe 5 (might have miss counted), the pool is clean and warm, they do use allot of chlorine in the water but can't blame them, all parts of the pool are in good order and fun with the kids and the slides are great as always. very friendly and helpful staff.
Positive experience: Visited the soft play for the 1st time. It was a nice size for toddlers to navigate and adults to accompany if they want to. We didn't use the pool, but overall shocked by how little has been refurbished within the leisure centre, given it was closed to the public for over 6 months and very little evidence of refurbishment apart from changing rooms. Corridors, reception area, upstairs and cafe look the same. All quite clean but dated looking.
Negative experience: Visited today for the first time. Really disappointed with how packed it was, and we were told this wasn't a busy time. The changing rooms were chaotic, floors were dirty. The wave machine and rapids are good but the amount of people in there ruined it. Would be much better if they had a booking system and reduced capacity
Positive experience: Good fun for the children (and parents) to play in the wavy water, go on the slides and in the fast flowing circle. Nice cafe upstairs, staff is nicec and welcoming.
Positive experience: I've only been to the swimming pool. It was very nice and big. It has 2 slides and a baby area plus a wave machine which added alot of enjoyment, however I did find it pricy. It cost £17.50 for 2 children and an adult for 1 hour. Not much parking I could find so I had to park in Tescos across the road which seems to be what a lot of people did.
Fantastic experience: It's a bit dated here but still very much fit for purpose. We had a great time with our 3 year old
Fantastic experience: Lovely place to go, the prices are very decent and the kids will have lot a fun. The only bad thing it's the parking, avoid Tesco car park because you have only 2h of free parking and it's not enough. Try finding alternative parking and for sure you will have a great day.
Negative experience: Customer service from a certain reception member of staff was disgusting towards HZJDHRU the children. When filing a complaint the manager came back with a completely different count of events and said our children were alone (which is completely untrue as they are 4 and 5) Not sure what to be more annoyed about, the incident itself or the way it's been handled by management.
Positive experience: This is the first time I have visited for some time. There have been major changes in the changing room and shower areas. Cleanliness has improved and in general the area is well managed. The leisure pool itself feels little tired - lacking investment? Otherwise I really enjoyed my visit.
Positive experience: Overall it's ok but it doesn't matter how rowdy people get or how many rules are broken, the lifeguards never do anything. Ruins it for the kids when they're being intimated by adults who don't know how to behave. Plus half the staff look miserable as sin
Negative experience: Swimming pool it’s self is really good! My kids love the slides and the wave machine however the changing rooms are so dirty! The shower cubicles we’re disgusting and the changing rooms all had litter on the floor and lots of hair and dirt!
Fantastic experience: Could do with a few more family changing rooms for when you go with your kids. But the staff are helpful, it's well priced, and always a lot of fun for the kids to swim in!
Positive experience: We have been many times to this leisure centre and our kids love it. The two slides are decent, great wave machine and really good rapids. The changing rooms have recently been renovated and the price for a family is very reasonable. A good way to spend a couple of hours.
Fantastic experience: Took our granddaughter she loved it. Price was good for the time we had. Love this place staff are amazing always there to help. Really recommend
Fantastic experience: Absolutely fantastic place. Clean tidy and tops any pool I've been to. Up there with some of the best in Worcestershire and even shropshire
Fantastic experience: Great day out with the kids, shame you dont get a bit longer in the pool. Seems over so quick but other than that great experience
Fantastic experience: Took my kids in the school holidays was impressed changing facilities was great pool was spotless alot better than the last time i had been there but that was a few years ago , in the school holidays regigister yiur kids for free swimming and you can use the codes to get your kids in free school holidays only though.
