Our comment from FitFit UK about Champneys Springs:

Champneys Springs, located in Ashby-De-La-Zouch, is a serene spa retreat that offers a tranquil escape for its guests. Many visitors appreciated the excellent gym facilities and the array of treatments available, particularly praising the massages and facials from talented therapists. Guests have highlighted the delicious food served at the restaurant, with options catering to various dietary needs, including vegetarian and gluten-free. The atmosphere within the spa is often described as calming, enhanced by the pleasant aroma and beautiful floral arrangements.

However, some guests have expressed concerns about the condition of the facilities, indicating that certain areas require maintenance and updating. Visitors noted that the pool and hydro pool were sometimes lukewarm, and the sauna facilities were considered small. The rooms also received mixed reviews, with many describing them as tired and in need of refurbishment. Additionally, while the majority of the staff were friendly and helpful, some guests experienced issues with customer service at the reception and restaurant.

In summary, while Champneys Springs provides a relaxing environment and quality treatments, improvements in facility maintenance and customer service would enhance the overall experience for future visitors.

Champneys Springs: Opinions

Positive experience: Stayed overnight here and was generally a little disappointed with my experience. The whole venue needs some TLC and maintenance, the place does not look loved and cared for. The beds were comfy and linens, dressing gown etc clean and soft. The facial and massages I had were the highlight, and the therapists were lovely. The same cannot be said for some of the desk staff here, they were often unhelpful and standoffish. Gym facilities were good. Hydropool was cold. Sauna was tiny. Food was okay. Overall, I don’t regret coming but I wouldn’t spend my money here again.

Fantastic experience: I’m a member of the club at Springs so I can’t review the rooms. However I can review the experiences I have at the club. Firstly, walking into Champneys you immediately get a sense of calm and wellness, with a gorgeous spa aroma and fresh bouquets of flowers … staff are super friendly and helpful throughout the departments. I mainly use the gym which has a great selection of cardio equipment as well as loads of free weights plus weight machines for you to use. It’s always clean and supplied with free white towels for your use, as well as cleaning wipes to use after using equipment to ensure cleanliness is maintained. The coffee shop serves great barista coffee and delicious cakes as well as smoothies. I love being a member here and can wholly recommend it as a health spa to visit

Fantastic experience: I'm confused about the negative reviews I've seen and we were a bit apprehensive before we arrived. Once there it is fair to say that our expectations were far exceeded and we had a wonderful day at the day spa, not least thanks to getting an amazing deal via the Vitality rewards scheme. We didn't realise that breakfast was included so that was a bonus right off the bat. Lunch was a buffet with excellent choices for my wife who is vegetarian as well as myself, plenty of salads but also a good variety of hot food and not a chicken nugget or chip in sight, fantastic. Staff were very friendly and helpful on all occasions. We booked one treatment which was also brilliant. We were never pressured into making any additional purchases. The facilities were clean and even though the car park looked busy, the actual facility was not. The pool was warm enough to swim for an extended period and the hydro pool even warmer. We didn't explore the outside areas as it was a fairly grey December day but we will be looking forward to returning next year when the weather is warmer. The outdoor tennis court looked stunning and in great condition. Thank you to everyone at Champneys Springs for a memorable day.

Fantastic experience: I had a wonderful and relaxing break with my sisters. The grounds were absolutely stunning, and the location was perfect. The food was delicious, and the massage was incredibly rejuvenating—exactly what I needed! A special thanks to Jude from housekeeping, who went above and beyond by posting my charger to my home address after I accidentally left it in my room. Her kindness and effort made such a difference. Overall, a fantastic experience, and I’ll definitely be returning!

Negative experience: Bad experience at Champneys the springs. DO NOT GO TO THIS SPA. The food is absolutely awful. Breakfast was inedible. Reminds me of a Benidorm all inclusive. Really gross food. We paid to upgrade to ‘heavenly spa cocoon’ treatment which is supposedly worth £90+. This was literally just a body scrub, in a run down treatment room. Had to have a shower as part of the treatment and my towel was left on the floor. Treatment didn’t last the full 55 mins it was meant to. Then after being disappointed by how much we paid the therapists try and sell you ‘aftercare’ products. Common area was pretty cold, seemed like there was no central heating in middle of December. Plug in radiators were dotted everywhere. The leisure facilities are so run down and look like your average local leisure centre. Jacuzzi wasn’t even hot. Whole place needs a refurb. Rooms are no different to a holiday express, beds were uncomfortable. We had loads of circular rust marks in our shower. My card also got incorrectly charged for 4 cocktails after we had left. We shared our feedback with Champneys following our stay and they didn’t respond. Really disappointing for what we paid. Not what you would expect £500 for 1 night. If you’re looking for a luxury pamper weekend, there are much nicer places you can go.

Positive experience: Great place for a nice relaxing break away. We had a great anniversary stay. Highlights were definitely the relaxed atmosphere, strolling around the resort in our robes and flip flops. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner were perfect with lots of choice and great food. Minus the £4.50 we paid for some burnt root veg. Massage and facial were good and left us very relaxed. Down side to the resort, sadly, the rooms are a little dated and well worn, and the pushed together single beds were very uncomfortable. The spa is also very dated and in need of repair and update, which may have been the reason the pool and the hydro pool were lukewarm. We were also disappointed that the steam rooms were separated male and female. Still, this didn't ruin our anniversary. We still had a great time. Would definitely like to return, but maybe after some renovation!

Negative experience: Another guest I shared a sauna with described this site as “the poor cousin of the Champneys brand,” and I couldn’t agree more. While this resort offers the signature Champneys pricing, menus, Elemis products, and health experts you’d expect, it falls short in facilities and overall experience. Compared to other Champneys locations—which have their own criticisms—this one feels like a downgrade. As others have said, this review will be subjective based on what spas you have been to before. If you’ve never been to a spa, then this will probably feel like a nice entry level experience. If you’re a regular spa goer than this will leave you disappointed. Let’s start with the spa facilities. Poolside, you’ll find only a lukewarm hot tub, a large hydrotherapy pool (essentially a giant hot tub), and a sauna, which was crowded at all times and of course a swimming pool. Nothing more. For a brand like Champneys, this is disappointing, especially when I’ve seen better offerings at Center Parcs and similar venues. Other Champneys resorts provide far more for the same price. Most guests come here to relax—enjoy the pool, soak in a hot tub, and build up a good sweat in the saunas. Unfortunately, these limited facilities were consistently full, which meant waiting and watching for someone to leave so you could take their spot. This detracted from the atmosphere The food was good—healthy options, as expected—but not for foodies. You won’t find a cheeseburger on the menu here! though there is a bean-based vegan burger! My main frustration here was the additional surcharges. For example, a steak at dinner required a £10 supplement on top of the meal you’d already paid for, which seemed steep. Drinks were also overpriced—a £6 beer you might think, “fine, I’d pay that in a pub!” Only to not be greeted by a draft pint but a 330ml glass. Breakfast is probably the best of the three meals with a buffet to choose from but again let down by opting for an automatic coffee machine unlike other champneys resorts which haven’t replaced human workers with robots and have someone walking round with a coffee jug. The coffee machine is very slow and there is only one of them meaning a queue sometimes four or five deep can form to get your morning coffee which can be at least a five minute wait if everyone is making two coffees, one for them and their partner.. get another coffee machine or two! The rooms were clean but underwhelming. They were just big enough to swing a cat—not what you’d expect for the price. I’ve stayed in larger rooms at Premier Inn, let alone at other Champneys resorts, where space is far more generous. Although being awoken to a fire alarm test was unexpected! The staff and service were perfectly fine—no complaints there. Overall, the facilities were disappointing, and the frequent menu surcharges were frustrating. Without a Vitality discount, you’re looking at spending around £710 for a weekend here. Frankly, I think Champneys Springs should take notes from its sister resorts, which offer much more for the same price.

Fantastic experience: A beautiful and tranquil place to be. Very welcoming staff that are always happy to help. They will go out of their way to make you feel at ease. The facilities themselves are incredible. The Pilates studios have lovely warm lighting, the gym is fully kitted out and the spa facilities are everything you could possibly want! Can’t recommend Champney’s enough.

Positive experience: Stayed here for 3 nights. Staff were really accommodating and the room service was great. The only thing with staying during the autumn/winter months the rooms were cold. I was mostly in the spa which was warm. Swimming pool temperature was warm. Fortunately, I had bought warm clothes to relax in. So I didn’t suffer too much from the cold. The furnishings in the bedroom could do with makeover - curtains were torn. Hence the 3 stars for rooms. But I did book a superior room. Not one of the best rooms. I discovered an area where the hotel has a log fire. It was beautiful to sit in front of the fire and read a book. I was lovely and toasty. Annette on reception was exceptional with customer service and very accommodating. The location at springs is beautiful. The food is really good too. They do vegan and gluten free options. The coffee shop could do with a few more drink options though. I love a chai latte but they didn’t do them. Overall lovely stay and would recommend for the price.

Negative experience: Review of Spa Company Customer Service I received a gift voucher as a present but had significant trouble redeeming it online for a Saturday booking. After being unable to resolve the issue myself, I called the company twice, spending about 10 minutes on hold before finally speaking to a helpful gentleman. He confirmed the voucher was valid and couldn’t identify any issues. However, as reservations were closed until 9 AM Monday, he provided the email address for reservations. By Tuesday, I still hadn’t received a response to my email. I called reservations five times throughout the day, each time waiting on hold for about 10 minutes, but no one ever picked up. Frustrated, I tried calling reception instead. After six minutes on hold, a lady answered. However, rather than an apology, I was met with a snappy and rude tone, stating that reservations were open but very busy. She asked if I wanted to be transferred or leave my details for a callback. I opted for the callback but never received one. I called again, this time waiting on hold for 40 minutes before finally getting through to a polite lady. She informed me the gift card needed activation, which she said would take 10 minutes. Unfortunately, after waiting, I tried booking online again only to receive the same error message: the gift card could not be redeemed. After another 27-minute wait on hold, I finally managed to speak to someone who successfully booked a spa day for me and my husband, including treatments, with the remaining balance paid on my credit card. This review reflects my experience with the booking process and customer service, which was frustrating and time-consuming. I haven’t visited the spa yet but will update this review once I’ve experienced the facilities and services.

Positive experience: Overall this was a pretty disappointing resort. It might depend a bit on what you have experienced in terms of spas but it is pretty limited. The pool is freezing. The hydro pool is a great facility but also pretty cold. The sauna and steam rooms are small and basic. The gym is an ok size but has pretty standard equipment and soon fills up. It generally feels a bit tired. We booked with a vitality discount so, with the meals included, plus access to the gym and classes, it was very good value. I would absolutely not pay full price. The customer service was really good. We found all the staff really nice and helpful. The food was well presented but fairly bland. This brand has definitely had its day and lacks the sense of luxury it previously held.

Fantastic experience: We had a two night stay at Champneys Springs. Wasn't too sure what to expect. From the moment we checked in, the staff could not have been more pleasant and helpful. Everyone we met had a 'can do' attitude. The spa itself was lovely with a great pool, hydro pool, saunas, and steam rooms. There was a wide range of classes if you wished to partake. The gym was excellent too. There were a few wee shops in the foyer which were nice to browse. Our package included breakfast, lunch and dinner, all of which surpassed our expectation. The grounds around the spa were extensive and looked lovely, although we never really walked around due to lack of time. The whole place had an air of chilled relaxation. We are really looking forward to going back. As mentioned earlier, the staff were the best , and are truly an asset to the business.

Negative experience: I'm not one to write reviews but after a terrible experience here yesterday I felt I had to warn others as my experience was far from relaxing. Upon arrival, the receptionist rushed me through check-in and quickly asked for my credit card details without offering any clarity on why they were needed. I knew this was for the robe deposit but it would have been nice to have been told this in case I wasn't already aware. The spa itself was extremely busy, which completely detracted from the peaceful atmosphere I was expecting. The pool area was chaotic, with aqua classes taking place, loud music blaring, and the constant noise of industrial hoovers and brushes sweeping the floor. It was impossible to unwind with all the distractions. In addition to this both the main pool and the hydrotherapy pool were not even lukewarm. To make matters worse, the beds around the pool were packed together so tightly that you couldn't walk between them, let alone sit down without bumping into someone. The whole environment felt overcrowded and disorganized, leaving me feeling more stressed than relaxed. I did have lunch included, and while the buffet menu was limited, it did offer some healthy choices. Afterward, I spent some time in the lounge area on a day bed, which was the only part of the experience where I managed to relax a little, despite the busy atmosphere. When it came time to check out, I was glad I read the back of the leaflet given to me, otherwise I would have been charged for a "charitable donation" and a "gratuity." I was never asked if I wanted to contribute to either of these charges, and I had to specifically request not to be billed for them. Overall, I would not visit again and certainly won’t be recommending it to anyone. I am very pleased I didn’t pay full price for the experience, or it would have felt like a waste of money. I did visit on a Sunday, so visiting mid week might have been a better option but I have been to much better spas, and I’d much rather pay full price at one of those than return to Champneys at a discounted rate.

Fantastic experience: We had a lovely, relaxing Spa Evening - unwind and dine - which included a 3 course meal.

Positive experience: Overall a good experience. Nice surroundings and decent accommodation which was very clean but a little tired. Staff were really helpful and friendly. The spa is OK and large but has limited facilities and experiences. Steam rooms and saunas are in the changing rooms with only a tiny sauna in the main spa area which was limiting if you are visiting as a male/female couple. Huge whirlpool/jacuzzi but the temperature was too cool to relax in. Great gym with plenty of equipment. The food was good with a great selection for breakfast and lunch. However the wait time outside the dining areas to be seated was sometimes unacceptable.

Negative experience: Reminds me of a prison camp. Got a short break as a gift. Wouldn’t choose to stay here though. Quite clean, aside from the breakfast crockery, but boring unless you’ve got stuff organised and that’s difficult on a short break. Service is painfully slow, the door cards often malfunction meaning trips to reception to sort that problem out. I thought the food was unimaginative and dull, especially breakfast. If you like white bread and bacon don’t come here, there’s lots of dry brown stuff with seeds on it though and lots of people in dressing gowns walking around looking like they might do some exercise but probably won’t.

Positive experience: The rooms most definitely need updating. But the food and spa were fab. Also the therapis I had for my massage her name was Raj was amazing.

Fantastic experience: From the minute we put our poorly manicured toes over the threshold, to when we left, scrubbed, massaged and glowing, absolutely everything was amazing. The staff are exceptional. Every single one if you. A special thank you to Massimo (you went above and beyond). Thank you Springs. We would give you 10 stars if we could. We are already planning our return. Pam (Room 83 and Kay Room 84).

Negative experience: The spa was a nice location but I ended up having an allergic reaction to the food, despite using their allergen guide. We complained and filled out a report at the end of the stay and never heard back about the source of contamination. If you have food allergies do not go here. Complete lack of sympathy or understanding about the severity of the issue. All the food must be made elsewhere and shipped in

Negative experience: Visited for a spa day with 4 other friends, on a 60th birthday. Lovely greeting at reception but that’s where the customer service stopped. As a group of ladies who work within customer service for years and paying £130 each, our experience was definitely not up to standard or worth the money. We wasn’t told where to get changed or where anything was. After walking around we had to ask a member of staff where the changing rooms were and the greeting place to receive complementary tea and coffee. There wasn’t enough beds or seating for the amount of customers and members within the spa. We spent most of the day trying to find somewhere to sit and relax. All the beds and seating were empty but had people’s towels over them. The whole of the spa lounge was really cold, which felt uncomfortable with wet robes. After waiting for our lunch for 15mins, without acknowledgement of passing staff members. We finally asked someone we were ready and was taken to our seats. Although the dining room was dressed lovely, less could be said about the food. We were the last sitting of the day and you could definitely tell. We had to ask for a lot of the food to be replenished as there were just bits left over. Leaving us not eating much at all. We used the small jacuzzi once then it was shut. The spa rooms are so small, that we couldn’t fit in them as they were full throughout the day. So overall our experience was very poor and lacked good customer service. Because of this we all decided not to have any treatments and left really early. In our experience, it is definitely not worth the money when there are other lovely spas out there, offering good discounts at the moment. Also felt that it isn’t good for large groups over.

Fantastic experience: I have been going to Champneys Springs for nearly 20 years and enjoy every moment. The staff are always exceptionally friendly and helpful. There have obviously been changes over the years and whilst it is not such good value as previous it is still an enjoyable experience.

Fantastic experience: We had a lovely stay for two nights, I couldn't fault anything about it except the rooms are very tired, they still look like they did in the 90s, our curtains were thread bear and ripped, the bathroom floor tiles are missing lots of grout and the level is up and down, only a matter of time before someone cuts their foot, black mould on the bath panel. I did mention it on check out and was told they were in the process of upgrading, only time will tell if this happens. even though the rooms are not up to the standard of the rest of the spa, i would highly recommend a visit.

Positive experience: Was recommended this place by a family member. enjoyed the facilities, sauna, steam, swimming pool and jacuzzi. not enough choice on the menu for vegetarians for dinner. this was a birthday treat. would recommend, as the price was good for the twilight evening.

Positive experience: I have mixed feelings about the ‘luxury’ element Champneys pride themselves on. We booked a weekend trip with treatments, meals and accommodation so cost us quite a bit of money. Having never been before, I had preconceptions of high-class luxury. Spa/communal areas This part of the building seems to be the newest/modern. Spatial communal areas with quiet zone/day beds, lots of sofas to rest and a bar area Staff are nice and friendly but lacking in staff – the bar area particular seemed to be lacking staff, people waiting to be served, quite a few cups/plates left at tables no water being refreshed – seemed a little unstaffed during the day. Spa – large pool if a little cold – the ‘jacuzzi’ in the pool is the same temperature as the pool so felt cold. The hydrotherapy pool was better and warmer. Toilets were out of order in the ladies so minor inconvenience The treatments were great and shout out to Anais who did a lovely deep tissue massage and tailored it to my needs and great nails! Ever the professional. Food and drink As part of the package we pre-paid a 3 course even meal, breakfast and lunch – having already paid hundreds of pounds for the weekend I was annoyed to then find all the extra ‘supplements’ The evening meal was probably the biggest let down – if I’ve already paid for food I don’t expect to be charged for a bit of chocolate cake (£5) and a side ( £5) – the food itself was basic, bland and absolutely nothing refined/luxury about it – basic home cooked food springs to mind. The food came out so fast it seemed it was all pre done and sat waiting to be taken out in a hurry. • Starter – tomato and onion bruschetta – soggy/chewy sourdough with a small salad thrown on the side. • Confit of Duck -ok but no accompaniments like potato’s – required paid for extras. • Pudding - apple brioche - bit like a school dinner, basic and not memorable. The breakfast was ok - cereals, meats, cheese, coffee/tea machine and toast – no pastries and again more extra payment required for things like eggs on toast, eggs benedict etc – which come with many hotel breakfast as a the norm and what I’d expect. The lunch the following day was the most redeeming part - a large buffet with a wide range of meats, fish, potatoes, salads, dips, sides, soups, puddings Rooms I’ve stayed in better premier inn’s…. Standard bedrooms and just that – standard I personally found the pillows a bit lumpy, bed wasn’t particularly comfortable The room was bit too warm, no air conditioning Kettle, no coffee machine, one room was missing water bottle The bathroom was in need of a bit of TLC – grubby bath I was reluctant to get in Small, dated TV Rubbish left under cupboards from previous tenants 50th Party on our corridor till 130am so didn’t sleep at all, left more tired than I arrived. Overall I think if you come for a day trip - spa day with treatments / pool / use of café you’d have a nice day But the evening dinner and accommodation was a let-down given the amount we paid– would I return – no!

Positive experience: Lovely location, and the reception and spa treatment staff were lovely, and very attentive. The booking experience was not smooth (treatments booked online actually hadn’t been booked on arrival). The service in the cafe was also very slow. Some of the facilities in the pool and spa area are a little shoddy.

Positive experience: Overall a really relaxing break in a lovely location. Food was very good, treatments and classes were varied. Drinks a bit expensive but the problem is really around the cumbersome computer systems. You have to wait ages to buy a cup of coffee, get access to the restaurant or pay for goods and services. We wasted so much time whilst information was entered on pc’s. This was the only negative.

Just perfect. We will definitely be returning.

Positive experience: Champney Springs is a spa retreat and was generally a lovely weekend. The main areas of improvement needs to be the following: *consistency of treatments. 4 of my friends booked the same full body massage and all received markedly different treatments between us. Mine was in a very light room on a bed that hat wet patches on it which had clearly been used by the previous person! *the superior rooms have bathrooms that needs repairs ie grout issues and needing updating. Carpets unclean. Balcony has moss & bird poo on it. *charging for most fitness classes other than aqua fit and walking which seems really unfair for the amount you pay for the weekend you would expect these to be inclusive. *advertisements for offers for returning customers however no vouchers given. *gym and meals were excellent *pool area is lovely and relaxing. Hydro area is brilliant Overall an enjoyable weekend but i think there are definite areas Champneys can improve on for the cost of a break here.

Positive experience: My stay was very relaxing and the food was excellent. The room I stayed in was looking a bit tired, the shower head was very grubby , the bath was also a bit grubby and the shower leaked on the floor. At mealtimes, the food was great although the service for drinks was a bit slow. In the swimming pool area it looks like some light bulbs in the ceiling needed replacing. All the staff were very helpful and the live singer in the evening was very good.

Negative experience: This was a Birthday celebration with a friend and on arrival, the room had mould and smelt awful. The chocolate gesture was very nice but it went downhill from there. they moved us to a room without mould of the same standard and it was not set up as a twin, they said they would sort this out but did not, we asked again when it came to 6 pm and they said they would sort it when we went to dinner but after coming back from dinner at 9 it still was not sorted so we had to sleep in same bed. The place looked run down and some of the corridors smelt horrible. This is not the standard of a Champneys I have stayed in before. The place is grubby and not clean. the knives and forks were sticking to the tables at dinner and although the food was nice the service was slow. On check out, we were not even given an explanation regarding the above and decided to leave after breakfast even though we had paid to stay for lunch and to use the facilities. The hydro pool was so full of chlorine everyone's eyes were stinging. I would not return to this Champneys. The standards of the other sites are so much better.

Positive experience: The building is beautiful, immaculate, very well presented, the staff are very attentive, I have visited numerous times over the last ten years and seen many changes, the new seating inside and out was well overdue and makes everything look so much fresher, my room was clean but I found a piece of fruit on the floor and the bathroom had a dusty damp smell to it which was not so relaxing when having a bath. Unfortunately I found that the food has gone downhill, which is a huge shame, runny thin porridge, no fresh coffee as the machine was broken at breakfast. No bread at evening meals which means no classic dip ( even though you are pushing a recipe book with the classic dips in it!) I stayed 2 nights and tried the only 2 things on the menu that intrested me , I had pork chop which was literally a grilled pork chop on a small bed on sweetcorn with like 2 cherry tomatoes, unless I wanted to pay extra for sides, that was my main , the salad on my starter was old, brown with some bad black bits on it , I had lamb biryani the other night and unfortunately the lamb was really dry ,the food definitely not as good as it was my last visit . Treatment costs have doubled in the time I have been going so I no longer get treatments while I'm there ( I understand that cost of living and minimum wage are at a peak )

Positive experience: Premium room was a bit grotty, drains need work above the balcony. Chemicals in the hydro pool very strong made my eyes sting instantly above the water and had to get out, hot tub closed off. Dinner was good, breakfast was very sparse. There's only a 4 seater sauna for mixed sexed couples and no seating in the pool that isn't claimed by a towel. Opt out donation to an unnamed charity added to your card in the middle of the night. Gym was good but small.

Positive experience: Lovely spa location. Only downfall was shortage of staff meant treatments was limited and on the day due to staff sickness it did impact myself and my friend directly. Her apt was cancelled via voicemail but no one said a thing until we got to the apt and we had stayed the night before and we had zero signal so we had no idea it was cancelled. This was due to staff illness. Alternative treatment was offered but meant the time was half hour late and a fair other people had similar issues. The staff were lovely but it did impact their ability to xwrrh out treatments. I struggled the week before to book a treatment as no therapists were available for particular options as they were not trained.

Positive experience: What a disappointment my spa day was. The facilities are tired and in need of maintenance. No working spa pool when we were there just a cool hydropool. Saunas and steam rooms are in the changing room apart from a small sauna that could seat 4 people poolside - but no showers anywhere near, had to go back into the changing rooms. Visibile mould in pool area and clear attempt at a repair that had only been partly painted. Not enough loungers or places to sit poolside. No real gymn classes on the Sunday timetable. Food was good and the team were friendly and helpful.

Fantastic experience: Went for a solo spa day. Welcomed by a lovely lady and had a fab welcome small buffet breakfast - orange juice, yogurt pots, salmon and cream cheese toast bits, tea and coffee. The gym was well equipped and changing rooms clean and plenty of fresh towels. Robes provided were soft and clean. Pool areas , sauna etc nice and clean. Buffet lunch was great, plenty of options and felt really nice and healthy and could help self as much as liked. Chill areas were nice and comfy and welcoming. I'm really happy with my day and definitely will be coming back! Thanks

Negative experience: First time coming to Champneys Springs. Came after a friend has stopped at the Henlow one. Not a luxury spa, photos are incredibly deceiving. -Tiling around the pool isn't finished, exposing plaster and cracked paint. -Mould within the pool grout and external tiles. -Rust in hydropool and temp wasnt warm. -Condensation inbetween glazing in the pool area, can't see what could be beautiful views of the grounds from certain places within the pool area. -Jacuzzi was cold, far too cold to be in there for more than a minute. -Pool was even cooler. -Changing rooms need some serious maintenance - just looks old and in need of a refresh. -Steam room needed a complete refresh, had mould, and dirty tiles. -Lounges are literally next to each other-touching. Isn't comfortable if sat next to someone you don't know. They had daybeds which were spread out but loungers need to be rearranged to make people more comfortable. -Service was poor. -Starters, mains and deserts were really nice, food was fresh hot and tasty but didn't get drinks till after we'd finished our starters and wasn't asked if we'd like anymore. -Waited 10minutes before someone had taken our cooked breakfast order, no drink was offered at all during breakfast. --Had scrambled egg for breakfast, was very watery and was so bland. --Continental breakfast wasn't great for choice, no pastries, Cereal tasted like it had been opened too long, milk was warm. Only good thing was the bread, that was amazing, very fresh. --Lunch was just as bad, was a buffet style - I had jacket potatoe, it was that cold the butter didn't melt. Other options were curry, soup and salad. If you like home comfort foods then this is not the place for you. Premier Inn has nicer rooms. Bathroom was over 20 year old, mould on tiles, bath coating peeling off. Plastic paradise. Didn't have a smart TV. No fresh water in room or biscuits. There were some positives -I had a deep tissue as a treatment and it was absolutely fab, no issues. My friend had a facial, again fab experience. -Daybeds around the pool were a really nice touch. -The egg chairs outside were really nice and comfy. -Beds were very firm but I slept really well. -Female only steam room and sauna. I wouldnt recommend staying to anyone. From reading the reviews after they all point out similar things - needs urgent maintenance.

Negative experience: Poor service Basic food Unclean in areas, toilets soiled Lack of ‘spa’ experiences. Basic pool area facilities. Those reflective of a leisure centre, certainly not luxurious, or invigorating Champneys reputation is definately what it used to be

Negative experience: A disappointing spa experience. The outdated amenities, poor cleanliness, and slow service certainly detracted from what should have been a relaxing day. Finding a clump of hair in my towel is unacceptable and was definitely a dealbreaker for us. The spa areas such as the sauna & steam room needed refurbishing. The changing room facilities also needs to improve cleanliness and service standards. The gym itself was well-equipped, but unfortunately, the cleanliness issues persisted there as well, with no spray or antibacterial wipes available for sanitizing equipment. This is a significant oversight, especially in a place where hygiene is crucial. The dining area was dirty and dusty, which diverted from the overall experience. However, the food itself wasn’t bad. A 50-minute massage was cut down to 40 minutes without any explanation, as my cousin was left in the waiting area for the first 10 minutes. Additionally, the massage room itself was in need of repair and a fresh coat of paint, which further diminished the experience. It’s unfortunate when a place that’s supposed to offer relaxation and luxury, falls so short of expectations especially that of a Champneys brand. We all agreed that we would not be returning.

Positive experience: Staff on reception were wonderful, really helpful.. Preferred previous lunch style with menu for starter and main, buffet was a bit of a free for all and had to wait for food to be replenished..Didnt know initially we were meant to help ourselves as nobody told us when we were seated.. Didn't feel food was at the standard it was before.. Enjoyed our day, sun shone so went for a walk which was lovely..

Negative experience: Do NOT visit for a spa day, especially if you are a part of the younger generation. The facilities are outdated, theres not many options and definitely not worth £140 for a Saturday. The food was nasty, sorry. The whole thing is worth £20 if anything. Not worth the visit, spas in the midlands like ragdale, eden hall etc are the same price or cheaper sometimes and they have better food menus and facilities.

Positive experience: Very good spa in an easy to reach location. Standard of facilities is very good, some areas could be further enhanced but overall it's a good spa with great treatments, service and food.

Positive experience: It's always lovely to spend a day at Springs, although we only do it on a discounted return offer which makes it resonable value for money. It's nice to see they've refurbished the crumbling, rusty pool ceiling, and the whole centre and grounds are now well maintained. There were two areas that needed better attention on our recent visit: breakfast required much more diligent management as they ran out of coffee twice and had to be alerted to the need to replenish fruit - all before 10 o'clock. Also, service at the café at tea-time was painfully slow with the staff seemingly oblivious to the length of queue. Oh, and I must mention the devious money-making technique (no doubt initiated at a management seminar) of displaying a 'Polite Notice' (I'll decide if it's polite, not you) on the counter, informing customers that a small service charge has been added and that its removal can be requested, no doubt hoping that nobody will want to appear petty or mean by doing so!

William Hindle 4 months ago

Positive experience: Underwhelming. First and possibly last spa experience for me, this visit was a Christmas present (day at the spa, not overnight stay). Staff were generally pleasant enough, 'breakfast' was a shambles, no water for tea, no coffee, no milk, no food except for melon. Staff gradually started to replenish these. It seems clear that focus is for guests that are staying at the resort. Lunch was better, but still clear that staff couldn't keep up with demand, no plates, no soup bowls, tables not cleaned. The pool facilities and sauna were fine. The place is looking a little tired particularly the funiture which has to put up with wet bums by the looks. Also, some men might be put off with women cleaning/collecting towels in the mens changing room.

Alison Holloway 4 months ago

Positive experience: Very relaxing and good spa facilities, however their policy to charge a compulsory gratuity on drinks is disappointing, surely it should be my choice whether to give a gratuity or not and generally people are happy to do so for good service .

Positive experience: This was a luxury break with family. Been many times and the service has been brilliant. But not so this time. Dinner meals were cold, and had to be sent back, and the waitress service was not experienced and came across a little rude, and it showed. Need better quality training. It spoilt our dinning experience. Reception staff need more training too in what body language not to display when trying to find my details when checking out. But overall it was a pleasant stay.

Fantastic experience: I was a bit nervous after reading many reviews but it exceeded my expectations. The location is beautiful, the facial treatment was out of this world, the spa facilities were fine, I loved the jets. Lovely changing room and showers. There was plenty to eat. Buffet breakfast and lunch which was fantastic. Three course evening meal was good, not fine dining but plenty of choice. Lots of comfy areas to sit and relax around the complex. We went on a 241 offer and I would definitely return under a similar offer.

Positive experience: The service from all the staff was outstanding throughout - and well worth the visit! Springs is a little dated and run down, but the facilities were great, and the treatments brilliant. Positive experience: Overall our stay was great, but there were lots of little attention to detail things that were lacking.... Bars of soap in the room, but nowhere to put it when you've used it, sticky wooden table tops in the restaurant, breakfast service was really slow..... Our tea and coffee took 15 minutes to arrive and only then because we had to chase, we were given a breakfast menu but then no one came to see if we wanted to order any of the cooked items on it. Lots of things had extra charges on them too, which seemed excessive... The cheese plate was an extra £8 and contained 3 small slivers of cheese.

Negative experience: WORST EXPERIENCE EVER I was a member at this resort for a short while and also stayed there for a period of 4 weeks before terminating my 10-week stay while some work was carried out at my home. My entire experience, with the exception of some very nice staff, was abysmal. Every evening there would be problems in the restaurant, from waiting for 40mins + for food even when pre-ordered, to food not arriving at all, or when it did most often looked and tasted awful. In fact the food and overall dining experience was so bad I started to compile a food experience diary. The extract below just gives an example of my personal experience at the hands of Champneys Springs (Cost for dinner £33 / Lunch £22.50): Tuesday, 7th May (Arrival): Waited 40 minutes for a lukewarm vegan burger served in a dry, untoasted bun. Thursday, 9th May (Friend joined for dinner): Ordered a side salad that never arrived. Both the starter and main course were served together. The panna cotta had a watery top layer and a thick gel bottom. Friday, 10th May (Friend joined for dinner): No issues as Abby handled everything well and Chef Matt prepared all the food excellently. One lunchtime: Ordered Vegetable Ramen Noodles, which turned out to be the worst dish I have had in a long time. The noodles were swimming in an overly salty soy sauce. One day: The Bombay potatoes were not cooked in the centre. This was the second time I had issues with this dish; the first time, they were overcooked and greasy. Wednesday, 15th May: Pre-ordered the Linguini. The sauce was like mashed potatoes with hard, uncooked garden peas on top. I had to send this dish back. This was the second time I had ordered it, and the sauce had been similarly disappointing. Only once was this dish well-prepared, by Chef Matt. Friday, 17th May (Friend joined for dessert): We went into the restaurant just for dessert after eating out. The cheese board only had two varieties of cheese and a few dry crackers. Many of the facilities within the resort were just as bad, from things being out of order for excessively long periods of time to other areas such as tennis courts not being maintained nor available at all. Please see images attached. I also had to raise my concerns about the fact that my room was not being cleaned, they were doing a quick refresh but didn't clean the bathroom in over three weeks, despite my raising this. Again, on raising with the head of house keeping and general manager, nothing was done. I ended up having to end my stay and find an alternative accommodation. On the basis of the above, I did raise a compliant, following which I did see some marginal improvement in the food and some facilities, however, this only lasted for a short period before resorting to the default standard. On further escalating my compliant, the resort's General Manager did absolutely nothing. On escalating further to the CEO, my Club 100 Membership was unfairly and illegally terminated. I don't know how these people get away with such bad practice, lack of empathy and moral turpitude relating to their customers. My annual membership was £1500 and I paid in excess of £10,000 for a planned 10-week stay. This is definitely Champaign cost but what I received in return was less than lemonade services and facilities. Champneys Springs has to be the worst resort of its kind and I would strong urge you to eire on the side of caution before booking here.

Champneys Springs

Thank you for sharing your feedback. We truly value all guest experiences and are committed to providing the highest standards of service. Our team at Springs worked diligently to ensure that your stay was enjoyable and relaxing, and we took immediate action to address any issues that were brought to our attention. I believe it would be more beneficial to discuss your concerns directly with Champneys, as this allows us to provide a more comprehensive response than what is possible in a review setting. I also want to clarify that many of the comments made do not accurately reflect our resort's offerings. The review presents a one-sided perspective that does not align with the majority of our positive feedback from other guests. Addressing concerns through the appropriate channels would ensure a fair and thorough discussion. Kind regards, Peter

Positive experience: A lovely place with lots on offer and a good selection of food and drink. Though the decor felt a little tired and restraunt service was good but needed a tad more attention such as the table water was warm and no spoon for soup with evening meal. Still for the price overall a fab stay.

Fantastic experience: This is a very relaxing environment and the staff go out of their way to help you but the restaurants are understaffed. They all are rushing around and seem very busy but do their best to help. The general ambiance of this spa hotel is very chilled and the treatments though costly are excellent. The pool is really nice and the hydrotherapy pool is brilliant. The food is also really nourishing and feels very healthy with a good choice.

Negative experience: Hygiene in pool area floor filthy No air con anywhere in the hotel other than foyer area Very understaffed and felt for staff demands of guests not to a good standard. They felt pressured and this showed! Food not as good as other resorts and queues and service inadequate

Positive experience: Having been a few times, this time seemed as though there was a little apathy feel around...tired and unmotivated!! Service industry is always going to be a difficult one to maintain motivation yet a sincere smile is really important to the guests to feel welcome and unwind...not walk into more dome & gloom which can very quickly transcend, without realisation....one to watch/nip in the bud!!

Positive experience: I can't comment on the rooms but the spa is very basic and more like a public swimming bath , sauna and steam room very small amd only fits around two peoole in at a time . the food was quite disspointing, bit school canteen . We had an offer , but would not return again , it is not the quality or luxury of other spas within Leicestershire. Hidden service charges on all drinks and food , you need to tell staff not to add these .There are also not enough beds for people to relax on and people left towels on them all day .

Fantastic experience: Always fantastic service from the friendly and welcoming staff. Springs has re introduced the lunchtime buffet and I must take the chance to comment on this - AT LAST!!! Hurrah!! It is varied, fresh, delicious, healthy and imaginative. Thank you Champneys.

Fiona Landon 5 months ago

Positive experience: Rooms are a very out of date style, no air con and no fridge/mini bar, tiny kettle, and there was a used pool towel left over the shower rail! Cafe Coffee/Teas were very expensive and not even a small biscuit provided with them; 1 coffee, 1 green tea and 2 muffins cost nearly £17.00 !!! The 'hot tub' area of the pool was near cold and the hydro pool wasn't working/in use on Monday. All staff were helpful and courteous and that's the USP, certainly not the infrastructure as that seems dated, tatty and very much lacking in investment. There were no treatment reception staff on duty, yet the survey has come through to rate them!

Abi 5 months ago

Positive experience: A lovely venue with a lovely new gym, nice hydro pool( though I felt cold after 10 min) and great treatments. Bedrooms are spacious with good views. Breakfast is stunning with an excellent selection of food , however dinner and lunch mediocre. The range of facilities it has I can’t fully comment on as these were not all communicated and I am sure now looking back we missed some as you are not given a list or a proper tour. You are taken to the middle of the hotel and a few facilities are pointed out to you. I had a facial while I was there and this was truly the best part. Pricey but mine I felt was worth the money.

Louise Cobb 5 months ago

Positive experience: The room was tired looking and quite gloomy. No bottled water in the room on the first night. Gym facilities are excellent it's a shame you have to pay for classes other than aqua aerobics though as quite a few back they offered most free of charge . Treatments are expensive too. Pool area is very cluttered. Buffet breakfast and lunch have reduced in Quantity and quality but still reasonable.

Mike Bower 5 months ago

Negative experience: Comfortably below average spa experience. Rooms large but dated and too warm. Spa facilities are poor by any measure- maybe civic leisure centre plus. Breakfast buffet a genuine horror show mish-mash of random food items. Hot items are surcharge only (£5.75 extra for an English Breakfast)- not that we ever got to try it as we never saw the Waitress again after we were seated. Wine extremely expensive (around double standard restaurant prices) and the restaurant lacking any atmosphere with the stickiest tables I have ever encountered. It wasn't all terrifyingly bad. Plus points were decent evening food (tasty/fresh), decent spa robes with quality flip flops and a Nespresso machine in the room. We left early and won't be going back. Would recommend either paying a bit extra and doing a Rockcliffe Hall type spa - or finding a nice day spa (maybe Three Horseshoes in Leek) and finding a hotel separately.

Positive experience: Spa day returners vouchers are good cake. I have been now with 3 sets of friends and they all comment on the treatments being very expensive compared to other retreats they have used

Fantastic experience: Beautiful location with a serene atmosphere and friendly staff. I was well taken care of! The room was spotless, the balcony offered a great view, and the bed was very comfortable. The gym had all the necessary equipment, and the Aqua Fitness classes were enjoyable. The food menu included a wide variety of options. Overall, a good stay.

Positive experience: Lovely experience. The room was lovely. The pools and facilities are great. Really enjoyed the treatments. Restaurants are a bit dated. I visited in 2017 and 2015 and I think the lunch and breakfast isn't as good as it was then. Less choice on the buffet unless you paid extra. The evening meal was very good.

beth hughes 6 months ago

Positive experience: Food and most of the staff are lovely and the place has the potential to be a lovely spa. However, facilities are very run down, water is cold, customer service (helping carry bags, acknowledging waiting customers) needs improving. Be careful if disabled no parking at the front for disabled customers (there is directors parking though!) and all treatments are upstairs with no lift going up to these rooms.

Lilo Stitch 6 months ago

Negative experience: Have to say the worst spa I’ve ever been. Went for my wedding anniversary. The first room was awful! Like I was transported back to the 90s. The staff were amazing and swapped the room which was bigger and made the stay alot better as I was ready to leave. I live better at home. The spa was small we stayed in there for a hour the first day and second we didn’t even bother. Food was ok, you did get a lot of food for your money. I’ve attached photos of the mould, the awful mirror that needs binning. That half a glass of Prosecco cost £9

Graham Rogers 6 months ago

Fantastic experience: We had a lovely couple of days here. We stayed here as we were at a business conference at the NEC so we didn’t spend any time with the pampering. But dinner was excellent. And so was breakfast - you don’t need to buy from the menu as what is laid out is more than enough. Rooms were very good with good bed and tv.

S M 6 months ago

Positive experience: Service was great, buffet lunch was good and location was beautiful. Walking paths with scenic views of Derbyshire hills on a clear, sunny day. Only reason for 4 stars is I wasn’t overly impressed by the spa facilities. Main pool area felt like a public swimming pool with one smallish jacuzzi area. Didn’t look or feel luxury for the price paid, apart from the robe provided. Didn’t try any treatments so potentially missed out on that part of the experience.

Kevin Smith 6 months ago

Positive experience: Not the best spa by a long way. More a converted hotel to a spa and not a good conversion by any standard. Everywhere needed work. The pool is far from tranquil with poor seating/relaxing. Food and services was good, wine expensive. Location and parking was good. Would we return = no, plenty of better options available.

Fantastic experience: Fantastic experience. The staff are attentive and helpful and facilities are great. Food is lovely. The grounds are brilliant and very well maintained.

Elmira Kay 6 months ago

Negative experience: Very poor experience. Public areas and sitting areas are lovely. However the rooms are very budget. Super uncomfortable bed, we haven’t slept all night as springs were digging in. They also didn’t have air con and it was boiling. Dinner was absolutely unbelievably terrible - it’s like a very poor cook - not “chef” made up these dishes. Very upset with the stay as expected a lot more from Champneys. We will not be returning. Staff were great though.

Norfolk212 6 months ago

Positive experience: We spent two nights stay and had an ok time. Dining staff were very friendly and helpful. Facilities are decent but could do with a bit of up keeping. Food portions were great. The room was a bit of a disappointment for the price tag. Not at all luxurious. You could tell it needs major updating, wobbly toilet seat and faucet was not properly fixed so every time you used it the water would leak all over the counter and onto the floor. Would I go back? Most likely not, but I may try a different Champneys estate.

Colin Beadling 6 months ago

Fantastic experience: Friendly staff, relaxed atmosphere and great treatments, upper body bliss was my favourite. Food was also excellent. My wife won our stay in a competition so was happy to pay the inflated prices at the bar, £42 for a bottle of wine but would have been aggrieved paying this if I'd paid for the whole stay. First Spa stay over, thoroughly enjoyed it.

Ann Heaps 6 months ago

Positive experience: Very friendly staff. Food was excellent only spoilt by mouldy raspberry ion desserts. Very relaxing day with my daughter. Outside space could do with some umbrellas particularly on such a hot day as we visited on. Treatments a little on the expensive side
