Fantastic experience: Decent hotel, rooms clean, spacious, friendly staff, quiet in middle of Gosforth park. Little older style much better than modern souless hotels, would have been top hotel in its day. Good value for money.

Negative experience: I used this Hotel to hold a meeting, I have been looking for somewhere outside of Newcastle centre to have meetings. Lovely place and very nice staff, however I parked up and I did not see a sign anywhere for parking payments. I used the facility for 2 hours, was happy to order coffee, lunch, cake etc. Then I get a bill through the post for £100 parking fine for 2 hours. There were no signs I saw anywhere. I was not in a rush, I would have seen the parking signs. It is disgusting this is allowed.

Positive experience: Wen went for our 10 year wedding anniversary Gave us a twin room 2 singles even though asked for double when booked Then asked to upgrade Told full Receptionist was full of coke bless her but she should not have been working she was not welcoming at all directed us to a room not clear at all and spoke too fast said sorry what was that I missed the rest from go up first flight of stairs, she just looked at us funny I said never mind we will find it took a while but got it, Spa should have charged us £5 pp with us having a room they charged us £15 each then gave us a free spa day in return to make up for it but thinking about it still doesn’t add up, Men’s bathrooms mucky all around the seat Cold punge full of water bottles I pulled 5 of them out This was the Marriott when we were there last and was great It is now the Grand and I would rather stay in a Premier Lodge across the road and just paid for the spa passes, wasn’t good Absolutely gutted as was our anniversary and thought would be nice for old memories We did t let that spoil it we ate across the road at falcons nest and had a drink Beautiful it was, And the spa was also lovely apart from those bits I mentioned all in all we had a lovely time personally but accommodation was bad unfortunately sorry (wish I had my phone in the spa bit to show the mess)

Negative experience: Husband and I have stayed at The Grand a few times now when visiting Newcastle. Usually had a pleasant experience and got a free upgrade this time around thanks to one of lovely ladies on the night staff. However, one of the ladies at the reception , Rebecca has been nothing less than rude and unwelcoming a few times we have been. We have never left a negative review as we felt like the rest of the staff makes up for it but it is such a shame for her to continue to have the same bad demeanour. She mutters under her breath when you ask for a simple request and evidently rolls her eyes as well. Not sure if her assumption is that we don’t speak English but rest assured, we very much understand. Such a shame but otherwise the rest of the staff is lovely.

Positive experience: Rooms are a little outdated now, could use a renovation to update for use with the modern world. With all the technology constantly evolving I understand that not everything can keep up with changing demand. It was a nice break though.

Positive experience: Our stay was on a coach tour. Out of town hotel, but public transport stopped outside frequently. The rooms warm, beds comfy. Down side, no proper vanity mirror for doing makeup/hair. Meals nice even if restaurant was a bit cold.

Negative experience: No stars absolutely shocking service when arrived we weren't allowed to get our room as we only had cash and we weren't informed about paying by card the reception lady was really ruid ...we had a family member who was willing to pay by card and that wasn't good enough so we had to leave after travelling to stay there absolutely disgusting and no help at all

Fantastic experience: Good sized rooms, windows partially open and detachable shower heads. Dog friendly with decent walks on site and others relatively close. Food is tasty, particularly the burger, and breakfast is decent. Bar prices are reasonable for a hotel. A good example of the type raised above the average by the staff who were unfailingly friendly and helpful.

Negative experience: Avoid. Service at this hotel is a shambles especially from the manager on front desk in the morning. Do yoursel a favour and book the travelodge across the road. Everytime i'm here theres an issue and is always answered by a shrug of the shoulders by mr happy more or less. Never again!

Positive experience: Stayed here for a few nights on business. The hotel seems ok, looks a little tired in some areas. The receptionists were polite. The food was lovely. The room was big and looked clean until you see some bits and pieces, the duvet sheet had a stain and the furniture was just a bit dusty. Also had room service and you pay £3 per tray. Seems to have ample parking space. It’s a few minutes walk to the Newcastle Racecourse. I saw it has a functional gym which I didn’t get to use and a swimming pool so can’t say much on that. Would say it’s nice but I don’t see myself voluntarily coming back here. Overall, okay experience.

Fantastic experience: Had an excellent stay at the Grand Hotel, rooms was great, clean and well appointed, the reception and common areas are very modern and well presented, leisure centre and spa was a great boon since the weather wasn't great, highly recommended.

Negative experience: Spoke to reception if there was any discount for the night as been a regular customer . Manager quite blunt . As in no .Could do with some customer service training . Ordered room service food was cold and quality was shocking spoke too reception once at night and before i left in the morning it cost £26 no refund no discounts on other stays just a sorry . poor customer service for a four star hotel what ever happened to customer loyalty. Never leave a response to these reviews On the whole some staff are friendly and helpful . But good customer service is not on there agenda its always heads on beds . .

Negative experience: The staff were extremely rude and acted the whole time like you're just a problem. Don't think I saw one genuine smile while there. The person on the desk in the morning was more interested in playing on the computer than engaging, then let me walk the whole way through the hotel to find the carpark door locked, then walked all yhe way back and was laughed at by the desk staff. The room was extremely hot and might as well stuck me in a cupboard. I strongly advise you miss this one out and grab a travel lodge. At least you'll get served.

Negative experience: Not enjoying this stay. This room stinks! When I turned up at the hotel, it looked nice. Lovely grounds, right next to the racecourse. Nice reception. I was expecting a pleasant stay. It absolutely stinks of urine on my corridor. Like a stinky alleyway in the town centre. I unlocked my room praying the smell would be outside and that stinks also but a different stink, not a urine stink. I located the smell coming from the bath plug. It smells like someone has been sat trumping in here for a week. The room itself is run down. Bed is knackered. Curtains hanging off. It seems clean I guess, but when it looks tired and smells rotten it just feels mucky. Glad I'm only here for the night and it's a work trip. Had this been for anything else, I would have been very unhappy and would have left. Haven't bothered calling reception about it as I heard them on the phone saying they had no rooms left tonight. If you are staying here for a night out and somewhere just to sleep then it's fine but anything else, it's just not up to standard. There is a Travel Lodge across the road, wish I had booked that instead. Actually had a nice sleep though. However I Wouldn't stay again :(

Fantastic experience: We had our wedding here 25/5/24 Booking a wedding 2 years in advance seems not much at the time, but we purposely chose this venue due to the capacity and space it offers, agreeable that updates to bedrooms could be made but as far as negatives that’s all that could be said. From start to finish we couldn’t fault the process initially Maria we booked with and then Connie taking over the roll, planning a wedding for 150 guests is not easy and these went above and beyond our expectations, nothing was a problem, from private dining the evening prior for 25 guests to the wedding day! the staff here were absolutely faultless, special thanks to Dee and Louise our on the day organisers, thank you dose not seem enough for all of your efforts and everything yous done. The deco this deserves a mention in its own right, Anna at aura events provides the deco for this hotel and I can’t thank this woman enough, everything and I mean everything I asked for was provided I believe I am a good judge of character and at our first meeting handed everything over to Anna to allow her to do what she is clearly amazing at doing, creating beautiful rooms and spaces, the work you and your team especially your sister do is beyond words and wholeheartedly appreciated. The grounds were beautiful, the service ourselves and our guests received was outstanding. From a bride that was unfortunately not convinced this was my dream wedding venue Thank you to each and everyone of yous for making my dreams come true! We had the most perfect wedding weekend and we can’t thank you all enough. Mr & Mrs Smeaton 25/5/24

Negative experience: I attended a wedding here on 27th May and was left feeling really disappointed. Service for the guests was extremely terrible that the family members and guests had to get off there seats and support with serving. The waiters were that clueless that I've had better service at a McDonald's before. Dishes and cutlery were dirty. The communication was limited and rude. I tried to complain to the on duty manager and she was not very helpful. All the guests were left waiting for a long time and alot of food was wasted due to numerous guests getting up and leaving the event. I would not recommend this venue for any of your special occasions unless you want your special day ruined and stressful. I suggest the venue to train up there staff properly to be able to cater to these events in future.

Fantastic experience: Lovely stay here. Staff were brilliant, very helpful and had conversation. Room was nice and clean with very comfy bed. Was a bit small due to en-suite but this was lovely and very clean. Breakfast was lovely. The only thing to be aware of if you have any mobility problems make them aware as rooms on lower ground floor had quite a few sets of steps along the corridor. Will certainly use again if in that area

Ayesh Baddage 7 months ago

Positive experience: Very good service in the grill and bar/ breakfast restaurant but I have to admit quite disappointing quality of rooms for a hotel with stars! Bedding smelt like someone's been smoking cigars on the bed before our check in Stayed in a room in 500's which took extra 'hour' (exaggeration) to navigate into the basement type corridors which reminded me of a world war bunker. Wall heaters were out of order had to crank in a makeshift oil heater which was suboptimal for the English weather. Would not recommend if you're after a peaceful room for your stay in Newcastle.

Positive experience: Recently travellled up for a 9am funeral (10th may) with my daughter from Nottingham setting off at 4am dressed for the funeral, arrived at crematorium at 8.15 so waited in my car,it was very hot that morning too, after a lovely service we then went to the wake but after a couple of hours needed to get to hotel to leave the car and mayb check in a little earlier but to be told we couldn't till 3pm too which I was abit annoyed as I had got flowers and chocs for the family and we also needed a quick freshen up,so had to leave in the car in that heat which obviously the chocs melted and flowers wilted,I didn't cause an issue as it was a sad day and I was tired,so finally got bak to the hotel at about 9.30 exhausted, the breakfast next morning was very nice thou, just wish it was a different story the day before.

Negative experience: The good: Good location for getting about. The bad: Dated rooms Shower is weak You have to pay £5 PER VISIT to the pool or gym Gym is rubbish, not worth £1 per visit, can't see the free weights advertised After charging to stay, then charging to use gym on top they don't even provide cups for water machine, just tell you to buy a bottle of water No towels provided at pool side Sauna not working Changing rooms a disgrace, lockers are not working

Matt “rodentracing” 9 months ago

Positive experience: The lobby, conference suite and bar area are good. These have been updated more recently than the rooms. This hotel used to be a Marriott and the rooms feel exactly like a 80/90s Marriott. Prices reflect that. Getting a happy temperature was a challenge with the noisy AC. No plug sockets by the bed (just lighting circuit ones). Room was superficially clean but very dirty on closer inspection. Shower was decent and there was a bath if you want. Bathroom was quite clean but some of the plastic fittings were broken. Question marks over H&S compliance. PAT testing last completed 2018. (Now March 2024) Lots of parking but car park did get full.

Negative experience: The only good thing about this hotel is the location. The beds are like ironing boards. The windows are single pane aluminium framed so may as well not be there. The room was draughty and noisy. The cleaners are loud and have music on full blast, slamming doors at 7am. The receptionist is a miserable fart. This hotel is in desperate need of an overhaul.

Paul Humphreys 9 months ago

Negative experience: A good price and location, but room in need of a refurbishment. The extractor fan in the bathroom clearly wasn't working as so much condensation had caused the plywood door to the room to rot, dropping paint flakes on the floor, and us, every time we went in. The bedroom window was single glazed, again more condensation, resulting in unsightly mould around the frame and unable to see out due to the steamed up glass. We paid the night before for breakfast, but due to staffing issues only a small selection of food was available. No offer of a partial discount on check out. You get what you pay for.

Negative experience: What a disappointment… hospitality means good customer service… unfortunately this hotel carries non of this … reception is your first point of contact… well disgraceful especially the little blonde woman … attitude was so disrespectful and bar staff one guy in particular again no customer service… would never stay there again and rooms were dirty too .. mould around bath and pee stains around toilet… door frames dirty cleaner’s clearly not sure how to clean ….

Fantastic experience: Didn't stay in a room but attended a wedding evening reception. The staff were wonderful and helpful and friendly. Food served was amazing and we loved every second of the event.

Jonathan Cole 11 months ago

Negative experience: I have no idea how this hotel is classed as 4 stars, this should be 2 star, if that. The whole hotel looks old and in need of a major refurbishment. It looks as if alot of it hasn't been touched since it was built. I have no positive things to say about it. The room we stayed in had mould on it in places, old windows and curtains, used hankys by the side of the bed, a disgusting cut yellow toe nail on the bathroom floor, old blinds and thin walls. Whoever was in the room next to us were a disgrace with all the disgusting noises they were making (a group of them) As for the food and places to eat. The food was poor and overpriced and had to eat in the bar area because the restaurant is closed. While eating they had football blasting out on the TV and people shouting/singing. Overall, its 1 out of 10 for this place and we couldn't wait to leave. Whatever you do, don't stay here.

Damien Hall 1 year ago

Positive experience: Was there for a big function, not to stay. The function rooms were what you'd expect from a big hotel. The function food was OK, no more, but then it was VERY mass catering (hundreds of people) and put on by a charity, so perhaps we shouldn't expect too much.

Positive experience: Looks a little old on the outside but lovely inside. Very comfortable rooms and lovely big bed. Breakfast with lots of choices.

Sandra Darroch 1 year ago

Positive experience: I thought that £99 for an overnight stay in a tiny room in the basement was unreasonable. The bed was very uncomfortable which they apologised for. The room was nipping clean. Breakfast would have been lovely if the machines for tea and coffee had been working, so no hot drink. And had to hunt for staff when several breakfast items were unavailable. I was disappointed with my stay here

Louisa 1 year ago

Negative experience: Appalling customer service by front desk staff. No allergens listed on the breakfast items and no staff member available to ask. 2 coffee machines not working at breakfast, oat milk listed as soya milk, heating not working in one of our rooms. The only reason I was here was for an event and wouldn't stay again.

Raymond Black 1 year ago

Positive experience: I've stayed here 3 times. It's an ok hotel on par with Travelodge. One nice thing is that it has a restaurant and bar on site, unlike the hotel across the street. The rooms are very old but relatively clean. During my last stay there was a conference party with VERY LOUD music you could hear throughout the hotel. It went on until 11pm. According to the front desk they host these parties every weekend until midnight. I suggest calling before you book to see if one of these parties is going on. Unless you're up late anyways, you won't want to stay here if there is one.

Negative experience: Nothing Grand about this hotel and to call it 4 start is disgusting. Two night stay, first room small double, didn't realise this meant everything and not just the room size, 3/4 bed for two grown adults, really. Bath 3/4 size too. Surprised windows still legal, metal framed some didn't close, covered in mildew and condensation. Mattress on the bed only sat on it and felt the springs. 'Upgraded' to a different room which was slightly better, full size bed at least. Windows much the same with the added extra of dead flies in the runners, banged in the wind. Wardrobe doors which couldn't open without alot of effort. Bathroom semi clean. Feel for the staff as the one we had dealings with was accomdating. Very disappointing break

Fantastic experience: We have stayed here a couple of times & will do again & again, Ian on reception is the most helpful & friendliest receptionist we've come accross he couldn't help enough, like anything wasn't too much trouble. The pool & spa facilities are fantastic too.

Ann Marie Littlejohn 1 year ago

Positive experience: I liked this hotel the rooms were lovely as we're the staff. The thing that let it down was the length of time it took to serve dinner. Last night we were told to be down for 6pm. Which we did by 7pm all we had been give was a small plate of soup. The food was excellent to be honest but it needs to get it out to the people quicker.

george fahmy 1 year ago

Negative experience: Firstly, the state of the bed sheets during my stay was incredibly disappointing. Despite my best efforts to request a cleaning through both contacting the reception and leaving a sign on the door, the bed sheets were not changed throughout my visit. The bed linens were visibly dirty, accumulating dust, hair, and emitting an unpleasant odor. Moreover, I would like to express my dissatisfaction with the response I received after raising these concerns to the receptionist. The receptionist displayed rudeness and defensiveness, denying any knowledge of the situation and dismissing the facts provided. It was only due to my initiative of documenting the substandard conditions through both photos and videos that I now have evidence to support my claims,

Ian Hanson 1 year ago

Fantastic experience: Nice rooms, nicely kept reception areas and hallways. Nicest Britannia I've been too but that might be due to the fact of the location 10 mins walk from Gosforth Racecourse.

Aranzazu EG 1 year ago

Positive experience: I've been at a few conferences, the hotel is great for it. Big spacious room with great sound quality. The food is not the best, just a business hotel in my opinion.

Tim Preece 1 year ago

Negative experience: No outside lighting no signs to say where reception is. Rooms look like they are from the early 1980 unable to switch light off in the room without switching the bed side light off needed to use the torch on my phone to find my way around or leave the main light on no plugs by the bed to charge anything certainly no USB sockets would not stay here again

Jason Yan 1 year ago

Positive experience: Bar and restaurant review only. We went here to watch the football in the bar and have dinner. Atmosphere and location: The place was busy but not so full that we couldn't find a table in front of a TV. The parking is free, just don't forget to sign in your car registration in the hotel reception or risk a fine. Even though the hotel is old and has many period features, the decor in the restaurant/bar was modern and looked good. The bathrooms were impeccably clean. The food: The food and drinks are priced about average but the quality of the food is very good relative to what you pay, we had burgers and they were great. The service: The service really lets this place down. We waited about 40 mins for 2 burgers, after which a waitress came round and said they'll put our orders in again, so even though we had receipts for 40 minutes ago, they somehow still hadn't placed the order, so after about 55 mins we had our food. Overall: The food is good quality and the costs about average, would go there again but order early and be prepared to wait.

Louis Snelling 1 year ago

Negative experience: I wouldn't stay there again. Over priced in my opinion. Room not the cleanest, especially the bathroom, air con not working was like a sauna. Service however was fantastic, at the bar and at reception. Location is good too

Positive experience: Gosforth Park Hotel Just an overnight stop before next day flight from Newcastle to Ibiza Drinks expensive. Beer mats would be a nice edition as by the end of the night my shirt was soaking. We dined in the hotel and had olives & supposedly a selection of bread. We had about 6 ends of a french stick toasted + a selection of olives with whole cloves of garlic - how strange, don't know where the whole slices of bread went to ?.This was followed by Gosforth burgers salad and chips, we added on a pepper sauce and onion rings. The burgers were the star of the show, the onion rings were swimming in oil and couldn't be eaten as for the pepper sauce it consisted of 2 table spoons in a tiny pot. We thought we would share it and pour over our chips, haha what a joke £2.25 as well. We had a look out of our bedroom window to a flat roof below and saw a huge pile of cigarette buts and a woman's tampon-not a good look. Nice looking place but a bit dated now, the main foyer and lounge area are nice.

B & G V 1 year ago

Positive experience: Our room was a fairly good size, and the bathroom was large. No facecloths or washcloths of any kind provided. Utterly baffling. Who travels from overseas with a washcloth in their luggage? Please rethink this. Can’t remove makeup or wash properly. No fridge, no microwave - even in a common area. One lone pub on the premises, and you are forced to eat there. The pub food was very good and the service was very good - friendly staff - although highly overpriced. Room toilet did not flush - had very low water pressure & required 3-4 flushes to clear. This was a major problem and we were told due to location, a number of upper level rooms had this issue and it was too costly to fix. Hmmm… okay. The front desk staff were kind and attentive. Decor overall (room + hallway) was very old and needs updating badly. The hotel was located across from an UBER-busy roundabout and we literally almost got hit trying to cross the road. Due to this, we decided not to take the risk crossing again at night for dinner, and consequently were forced to eat in the only available pub on the premises. Overall, staff were good, but the hotel is outdated.

Negative experience: We paid for a Groupon Voucher which included three course meals but the restaurant was closed. There were no three courses available and we were told to eat from the bar menu. I had to pay a £7 surcharge for each steak we ordered and there was no desserts on the menu. The bar doesn't serve cocktails despite having the ingredients to make what I asked for, and to top it off, both the sauna and hot tub weren't working. A local told me the hot tub had been out of order for a month. Not a four star experience at all.

Fantastic experience: Booked for overnight after Newcastle Races fantastic location just short walk away. Rooms very clean and comfortable bed. Only let down was at breakfast where staff where not refilling the buffet food had ask a couple times also had ask for plates. Coffee machines both not working correctly too. But in all great hotel.

Frank_le 1 year ago

Negative experience: The room was small which was fine as I chose a budget room. The bed mattress was the old inner spring style that make ye oldie sounds when you move around and was very uncomfortable. The mattress topper did little to make any difference in comfort. No aC of course but that’s a UK thing special request only. The bathroom shower base was in disrepair would pop out when you showered. On check in no mention of any facilities at all not direction to the room other than “down stairs” pretty disappointing stay

Negative experience: I'm sorry who praises this hotel. I feel sorry for the people who used those towels to wipe their bodies or faces. just for your information, the cleaners and even their superiors wipe both the toilet and the floor with those towels

Cameron Aka 1 year ago

Negative experience: My whole experience was ruined by the fact I work nights and was expected to sleep in a room that is currently sat at 23 degrees with only a small fan. This will leave me fatigued for work and wouldn't recommend this hotel in summer if you work nights, pay the extra for a hotel with air con facilities. The gym is good got quite a few machines and free weights and the pool looks great. Food was tasty however some items include things not on the menu IE mayo. You shouldn't have to assume what is in or not in your meal. I'd prefer to add my own sauce personally unless stated. Staff are friendly.

Negative experience: 4 * Hotel without aircon? That's a first! 2 part bed with a 2 inch height difference. Poor quality bedding and linen. Cheap breakfast ingredients and poor selection. Stay elsewhere, unless you're getting completely smashed at the races and don't care where you sleep or what you eat.

Positive experience: A nice hotel, rooms are a bit old though. Some rooms the A/C wasn’t working during this heat but they provided fans. Need some renovations for the whole hotel. However customer service was top class. Location is great while staying at Newcastle and plenty of space for parking and nice outdoor area. Also a great place for weddings and any other large group events.

Positive experience: I don’t know if they are racist tho can’t really say, when my husband and I got in, the receptionist tried asking funny questions which I wasn’t cool with! The breakfast was really good, clean rooms vintage but clean, nice affordable bar and a warm bath which is accessible to every guest

Shah Umair Ahmed 1 year ago

Negative experience: The rooms were good, but what let the side down was the service. Really inexperienced service personnel and supervisor who couldn't be bothered. Although the food was prepared and ready for service, everyone had received their food 2 hours late. The guests had to help with collecting and taking away the starter plates before the main course could be served.

Negative experience: I booked a single bed for the night, all the pictures on their website showed lovely luxurious rooms, my room was 7ft square, no where to hang my suit. I was very disappointed with the room I got told at reception that's what you get for £55 per night. Wow I won't be recommending it to anyone.

Fantastic experience: First impressions presentation excellent, clean, friendly reception desk, bar staff were brilliant nothing was too much trouble, food portions very good. If I'm staying in Morpeth I will definitely be staying here again!

Negative experience: A very tired hotel needing some tender loving care. I asked to move rooms because first room smelled of damp!! I have to say reception was very obliging. Breakfast was good

Fantastic experience: We attended 2 race meetings, this is the ideal place to stay. Great service, clean rooms, quiet at night, breakfast delicious.

Negative experience: A fine hotel to stay at for a cheap stay. Bed wasn’t very comfy. The room was generally clean. One of the lights didn’t work. Lots of noise outside during the night which made it difficult to sleep. Reception/staff were lovely though and it was convenient to have the parking at the hotel for no additional charge.

Negative experience: Absolutely, terrible to have an event at, the event manager did nothing at all. At one point told them to do something 5 times, instead, he was chatting with the other employee and ended up not doing it, so we had to do it ourselves. Overall just a terrible experience from them.

Negative experience: Stinks of damp, rooms feel like cells, cobwebs on walls and remote for TV is very dirty and dusty. All furniture is very old and stayed, brown Curtains look like they ve seen better days, bed is hard is only slightly bigger than a single. Avoid at all costs. Everything else I could almost cope with the but smell of damp is just too much, I was offered a different room for a small fee.

Fantastic experience: We checked in for New Year weekend and our stay was fantastic from check in to check out. All the staff we came across were extremely helpful and friendly. Nothing was too much trouble for any of them. Receptionist excellent sorry didn't get any name's. Devon the restaurant manageress was excellent and the bar manager was excellent too. Keep up the great work Team. Happy New Year to you all.

Negative experience: Booked a festive afternoon tea. Which took 3 weeks to book. Turned up on the day and was given 1 stand amongst 3 of us. Bucks fizz instead of prosecco. I refused to pay 17.95 each. Turns out we should have had a stand each. Staff seemed very flustered and didn't know what they were doing. Very disappointing won't be returning.

Negative experience: Wrote a review on TripAdvisor about the rude front desk named Josh. Called on the 28th Nov at 11am to amend my reservations but according to Ian Nicholls, Front Office Manager, there was no staff named Josh. This means their staff aren't only rude but liars too. From Ian's responses on Trip Advisor, its clear how 'accommodating and warm' they are. I have a feeling it was actually Ian I spoke to. Ha! Stay clear of this hotel! Worst customer service

Fantastic experience: Really like this hotel. Staff are all very friendly and it has a lovely feel about it. Costa coffee at the bar a plus! Breakfast was standard but tasty. Hotel does look like it needs a little love in places but we couldn't really fault it. Big comfy beds and decent size rooms with big TV!

Positive experience: Races weekend been going for years now. Very busy but good atmosphere. Place starting to look and need of some attention and only one lift working but won't stop booking next year spot on for Newcastle races.

Fantastic experience: Stayed one night in November. Everything was totally amazing...lovely reception, answered all my questions...room was great, had a proper hot bath. Great night's sleep, mattress was amazing. Next morning had a full breakfast which was perfect. Then used the gym, and swimming pool all of which was super clean. I literally couldn't fault a single thing! Even my view from the huge window in my room was beautiful!

Fantastic experience: Currently here for three days, beautiful room/suite. Great location only 10 minutes from the city centre and walking distance to restaurants and clubs. The spa facilities are a bonus, hot tub, pool, steam room and sauna all decorated in a modern lavish style. Staff have been azing very accommodating and ever so helpful. We have loved our stay so much we are planning on treating family to a break away here with us just before Christmas.

Negative experience: This hotel really needs to sack its chef. The food is awful. It's like I cooked here. The decor is old, it's a pretty run down hotel to be honest. They've tried to spruce it up but not enough paint will help this place. Guiness also tastes watered down.

Fantastic experience: Attended for a charity dinner and ball. Stayed 2 nights with 2 dogs. Excellent big party rates. Good breakfast included. Ball was attended by over 350 people snd the catering was excellent. Perfect venue for a big occasion.

Positive experience: amazing room, easy to find with lots of parking and a drop off section. lovely breakfast but is lacking variation. 10 minute walk from the racecourse

Negative experience: A very tumultuous and stressful stay that I don't wish to experience again! And the stress was caused by the fact that when I've checked in there was a mistake on the check in date. A couple of hours after I've checked in I was told by the reception the problem was solved so I didn't worry with it anymore. But for my surprise I found myself locked out of my bedroom with no purse, no phone and with an unpleasant receptionist saying that I have to pay an extra night to access my room! I never felt so unwelcome in a hotel in my life! Such an easy issue to sort out by reception and zero will of sorting it out! Why would I have to pay for an extra night if I had already pay for it? This completely ruined my weekend and my mental health. I will definitely not recommend it and will never stay in this place again!

Positive experience: Although the hotel is in need of refurbishment, my experience of the rooms was good. The staff were nice enough, but the breakfast team seemed uninterested and did a very haphazard job of cleaning tables and stocking up table items. The health club area has everything you would want. The breakfast was very hit and miss, I stayed 4 days, and some day's it was goo, and others were terrible. Ordering poached eggs was a risk as sometimes uncooked. We tried the restaurant. One item had to be sent back as didn't come as described, the other was fine.

Positive experience: Very convenient hotel for visiting family in Gosforth. Rooms now quite shabby. Single rooms available in different part of the hotel and are more like a hostel than a hotel - not good value. Internal rooms with no windows extremely uncomfortable. Very warm and overnight 'emergency lighting' makes it far too bright to sleep. Avoid these rooms! Breakfast is very variable depending on how busy the hotel is. The staff struggle with a busy restaurant. Limited selection. Very expensive for what is on offer. Rooms are not serviced during your stay unless you request it.

Positive experience: Rooms would get 5 stars but the most tissue thin walls I,ve ever ever encountered. Didn't bother me but it might to some. No fan in the room on hot night. THE CLEANEST room I have had in years!! For me clean is everything and I was taken aback by how very clean this little room was 0508. These small doubles were great! Loved it! THE STAFF - fantastic!! Cannot praise them enough! Greatly helpful girl on reception - fab first impression and the guy who at 5 am was up, smartly dressed and already proudly cleaning and polishing with a 'good morning' for us! CAR PARK - tons of spaces, plenty of disabled spaces too. Paint wearing off and a bit of a puzzle to find exit but a good car park non the less. Didn't have food or drink but the tea and coffee facilities with a good clean kettle and even biscuits was a nice surprise too! We paid £42 for a night Other side of the roundabout it's on is MC.donalds, Costa, subway, coop store and a petrol station with E5 fuel if like me your car needs it! The grounds are beautiful and the lovely high wall keeps out road noise

Negative experience: Room was absurdly hot, unable to cool it until a fan was placed in my room, the breakfast was poor quality, when food was available and I couldn't even have breakfast to myself without someone trying to sit down with you at breakfast due to too many people being let in at once. The lamps in the bedroom didn't work... this was not a pleasant experience in any way, shape or form

Fantastic experience: We were upgraded to a executive double room for our wedding anniversary. Very spacious room. Leisure facilities were great. Evening meal and breakfast very nice. Would recommend this hotel.

Negative experience: The room was not cleaned when we arrived. Poor customer service , everything just bad at this hotel. I really wish that I didn’t book to stay at this hotel . The only this I liked was the breakfast. Apart from that , everything just bad . I would not recommend this hotel to any family and friends of mine .

Negative experience: Staff were lovely and working well with what they had. Leisure facilities where good and a swim was a welcome wake up from attending a wedding party the night before. Very tired decor throughout, food from the bar was served quickly but lacked any flavour. Breakfast was appalling. Would usually look forward to cheese/meats fruit however no fresh fruit, the meat and cheese was dried up and curled at the edges so we opted for the cooked breakfast. Scrambled egg was a solid lump of rubber, the fried eggs had just been put out but had a hard film over the top of the yolk as if they had been left out on a hot plate for a while. The sausages full of gristle, bacon tough as leather and grilled tomatoes raw. On an up note I enjoyed my toast. Would not stay here again and definitely not worth the £120 paid.

Negative experience: I forgot to take 2 items from my room by calling after 3 hours, the staff say they found nothing, even though I mentioned exactly where I left them. She also works in a hotel and I know that if the staff finds the guest's belongings, they are obliged to keep them for 3 weeks ...

Negative experience: The room is very hot and I ring Dylan at the reception. He told me a fan is coming now. I waited 2 hrs ring several times and every time I have been told now the fan is coming. Then, I decided to go to the reception to discover that he did not ask anyone to bring the fan. He is really so rude and very unhelpful. When I told my friends they all confirm that this guy was a security before and always being so rude. The hotel should recruit a good staff . I am so disappointed and will never ever book this hotel again.
