Green Bank Leisure Centre: Opinions
Positive experience: I've only used the gym here, I thought to give it a try as my membership allows me access to all centres. They have a good variety of equipment. The dumbells go up to a very high weight. However some of the machines are uncomfortable to use. The chest incline & decline machines require that ones arms must go back way too far to grip the handles. That's fine if you wish to err on the lighter side & do 20-25 reps but if you wish to go heavier its quite impossible. They do have incline benches, but again, you'd need a spotter to go heavy. Surprisingly they do not have a smith machine as for me that would have been a suitable option. A must in any gym. They do have an awful lot of machines yet only one lat pulldown. I also regularly use a crosstrainer. In this particular branch the cross trainers are anything but smooth. As you increase the resistance they become unsmooth & they feel as if they are scraping unevenly. Although there are a lot of various machines, for chest & back I prefer to go elsewhere. I suspect whoever equipped the gym was not a seasoned user. The leg machines, on the other hand are brilliant. A good variety indeed & very smooth machines. I do question though why any gym would require 4 squat racks yet no smith machine??
Fantastic experience: Great place, climbing wall great gyms. Spin classes, large courts for badminton etc and great staff with cafe next to pol
Fantastic experience: Brilliant staff throughout
Fantastic experience: Can't fault it. Staff are friendly/helpful and I don't feel judged at all by other gym goers like I have at other places. Love coming here.
Positive experience: Last minute swim with grandchildren pool very quiet (thankfully) facilities seem to have had a spruce up though it is probably 2 yrs since I last went. Changing rooms clean and tidy not always the case in the past. As it was a family swim they had the floats out so plenty of opportunity to keep the kids entertained and get some swim teaching in.
Negative experience: If you're looking to actually swim do not come here. Lane swim does not exist. You will have people who should be in the slow lane, are in the fast lane causing fast lane swimmers to move into the slow lane. Too many people sitting at the side in the way. Staff are too scared to speak to the swimmers so will not do anything. Don't waste your time or money.
Negative experience: I visited this Centre for the first time today intending to swim. As soon as I entered the male changing area with my son, we were hit by a strong, unpleasant smell. I immediately turned around and went back home. I won't be going there again.
Fantastic experience: New gym with swimming and sauna facilities. Everything is perfect. Friendly employee. It would be better if we had a weight measuring machine.
Fantastic experience: The gym looks fantastic. All the latest kit. They’ve done a great job with it and it’s looking clean. Only downside is that people need to learn to put the weights back.
Positive experience: Re-furbed gym and sauna. Best in the area. £200/ year.
Positive experience: It's OK for a local swim but needs tidying up and locks putting back on doors in the wet changing rooms
Fantastic experience: Best leisure centre amazing slushies popcorn machine coffee machine nestle machine everyone replenish the lift amazing gym good workers cool ice cream machine Nescafé machine unfortunately the TV cooooool; beautiful men pretty ladiys it's a nice gym fuzzy machine where you can get a random ball it's so close to Sainsbury's Sainsbury's across the road; we did a very lat. Negative experience: Totally agree with the other reviews on here. Went here for the first time. We went for the ladies swimming session. The ladies wet changing rooms smelt AWFUL, pure smell of urine. No individual shower cubicles, not all lockers locked & not all l changing cubicles locked. Very disappointed as live near by & would be the perfect destination for us, however will NOT be returning & have lost customers that were wanting to sign up to a membership…
Negative experience: 1. When I went into the shower, the showers were freezing, and some cubicles (locker rooms), did not lock. 2. When we entered the pool it was like the feeling when you go into a pool full of ice. 3. I needed to go to the toilet, but there was no locks on the doors, and smelt discussing. 4. When me and my family entered the buling it took us 20 minutes to cheek in.
Positive experience: The staff are great but the centre itself us in dire need of refurbishment. The ladies wet changing rooms are awful, really stinky, broken lockers, broken cubicle doors, the toilets are bad, rarely flush properly. I hope the new owners spend some money in it as it is used by a lot of people.
Fantastic experience: Have updated my review because there has been a refurb and it is really nice now. The gym is modern although I'd ont know what half the machines do yet.. Changing rooms now clean. I've not tried the swimming pool.
Positive experience: Only use it to see the health meeting
Fantastic experience: Started using the gym, Margaret one of the fitness instructors was very helpful
Fantastic experience: We just had our first visit to Green Bank Leisure Centre today and were greeted and shown around by Tara on reception who was so friendly, helpful and really made us feel welcome. We enjoyed our gym and sauna today and would definitely recommend it. We will be coming back soon!
Fantastic experience: Really professional and friendly personel just big fat ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Negative experience: After sauna there is no place to relax they send you away from the side of the swimming pool they want you to sit in the changing room
Negative experience: Booked our daughter's birthday party here, paid in full. This then got cancelled as it clashed with fitness classes, I was given 5 days notice via email to rearrange a party and ended up at a financial loss. Unless you want a really disappointed child on their birthday don't book.
Negative experience: Don’t even deserve 1 star. I completely agree with all other negative reviews which have been left. The place needs refurbing asap it shouldn’t be allowed open. The roof is caving in, the changing rooms are VILE( stink of urine, no toilet roll, toilets don’t flush, no locks on changing room, hair dryers hanging on by tape) etc. the actual pool itself the tiles are grubby the whole place looks so unpleasant which is funny as when you enter the reception looks quite well put together what an illusion. Also every other time I’ve been kids are allowed swimming aids in the pool which are on display to them however today was told no. What’s the point? It’s a casual swim and we have been allowed them every other time. Honestly will not be returning.
Fantastic experience: Great place to come and work out but great place to come with your children and in my case my precious 4 month old boy. It's fair prices makes it useable for all. My son loved it splashing and kicking around for a hour before falling asleep on his lilo but he was very tired.
Fantastic experience: I absolutely love the climbing. Great leisure centre with nice staff
Negative experience: Visited with my twin four year olds today for a swim but wished I hadn’t. The centre is now run by inexperienced extremely young staff with a complete lack of cleanliness shown throughout. The male changing rooms are dirty with broken lighting, broken and missing cubicle door furniture, dirty floors, walls, ceiling tiles and toilets, oh and the hair drier has now been broken for months. The small pool was freezing cold causing me to cut short our visit and the children are no longer allowed to use swimming aids when learning to swim, unless a lesson is paid for. The pool roof liners are now spilt and hanging down. Such a shame, as I grew up using this centre, but Everyone Active have shown a complete lack of funding for general maintenance. Steer clear and use Ashby Instead.
Negative experience: I visited today for the first and last time with my husband and our daughter. The reception area and corridor have been done up to give the illusion that it's well maintained but it's far from it. The changing rooms are probably the worst ive ever seen. Extremely dirty and reak of wee. The group and baby changing rooms stink of wee and only one them has a lock. So I was forced to change with my daughter in a small cubicle. These cubicles are no better, most are dark because hardly any of the lights work, and most have no locks. This really slowed us down as it was difficult to find one with a lock. You don't know what you are treading in and it being so dark makes changing a child very difficult and take much longer than it should. Only shower worked and it was a pathetic amount of water that came out. The pools weren't as I expected after seeing the changing rooms but very tired looking and the grout was dirty. The floats/equipment were all falling apart and there were lots of chunks off them floating around. It's not worthy of the 1 star rating but I can't post unless I give it one .
Positive experience: Had a kids birthday party, the place itself was good fun for the children and a couple of adults that climbed. We felt maybe two members of staff wasn't quite enough as the kids had to stand about and wait to be clipped in other than that it was really good.
Fantastic experience: 3 month membership £75 yes please... Thanks very much!
Fantastic experience: The choice of facilities is second to none, something for everyone. The staff are spot on.
Negative experience: Good variety of classes to account for all tastes and friendly staff. I initially had a swim only membership but was offered a deal for all options this year. However, that's where the good feedback stops ... will be going elsewhere next year unless the standard of facilities improves. The poolside changing rooms are appalling. They are old and dirty (a quick hose down does not constitute cleaning and just pushes the filth into the corners). The lack of bulbs in the light fittings in the changing cubicles is probably a ploy so the dirt can't be seen! Two of the three showers have been out of action for over SEVEN months and a member of staff told me a fortnight ago it was unlikely they'd be repaired. This is not acceptable after a large aqua class. I now don't use the facilities in the day as I can't get clean and go back to work. Most of the cubicles don't have locks or if they do they are broken. The benches are foul and filthy. The locker key bracelets are all broken meaning you can't actually attach them. Most of the lockers don't actually lock. In addition the Active Nation app doesn't show the whole range of classes and times. I've raised all of the above concerns with Green Bank and Active Nation, both verbally and in writing but have yet to receive the courtesy of a response from either. I look forward to hearing why they are still promoting offers for new members when they are not looking after the ones they have!!
Negative experience: Changing rooms and pools are so grotty. The changing rooms stink of wee. I took my baby and couldn’t go in the small warmer pool after being told it was open when I paid
Negative experience: Old fashioned and needs a refurb. Changing rooms smell of wee! Yuk!
Positive experience: Getting a little tired in places, but decent leisure centre.
Fantastic experience: Visit here frequently for swimming training with my daughter. Free short term parking and being close to Sainsbury's make this a great leisure centre to use.
Fantastic experience: Nice clean and friendly service with a great atmosphere
Fantastic experience: Clean changing room .Friendly staff .
Negative experience: The changing rooms smell like urine. My child and I have been going here for swimming lessons for over a year, and he can't even use his hands while swimming. My child does not want to go because the teacher is grumpy and sometimes shouts.
Fantastic experience: Good local fitness centre, sure could do with some improvements, but let's support it first! It's been great for my health, daughters' swimming lessons are fab! She's getting on really well.
Positive experience: Not too bad the price is good it has a good gym and pool with suna shower could do with an upgrade over all good staff good facilities
Positive experience: Pool was nice and warm the showers in the changing room were poor though barely had any pressure and were cold
Negative experience: Haven't been in there
Fantastic experience: Ideal to do all your exercise. Nice people very helpful staff
Negative experience: Main facilities are decent but the male changing rooms are just dirty. There’s marks and fluids all up the walls and doors of the changing rooms that rarely if ever get cleaned. The locks on the doors are mostly broken or not present and the lights are often broken.
Fantastic experience: Good local centre for swimming and gym. Small pool for the kids and sauna for when you want to relax afterwards
Fantastic experience: Swimming with my baby boy. I have never felt more comfortable in a place to go swimming and the water is great, lifeguards, reception and generally all staff are always lovely. I'm happy to call this place my first choice in the area even if I drive a while to get there.
Positive experience: Friendly, helpful staff..... I only use the pool for a casual swim as I find the lane swim a bit imposing(people in front and behid) Would be helpful to have a couple of lanes for a casual swim at these times....but thats a personal thing!
Positive experience: Took 6 year old grandson climbing. Well supervised & safe.
Positive experience: Kids love it there
Positive experience: sauna out of order but enjoyed swimming
Positive experience: Good community leisure centre, good for a range of people. Decent variety of classes from Les mills, spin, aqua, yoga. Like the boxes used in the sports hall for social distancing, they’re great for space during classes. Hall, climbing wall and parts of the gym all feel new and recently refurbed which is nice. Gym can get super busy and is quite cramped but the same at every gym. Pool is okay, could do with a freshen up as parts look a bit old. My average rating is the changing rooms, they’re really not good, feel old. Dry changing feels old and dirty, but the wet side is even worse. Not enough cubicles, waiting 5/10 mins whilst wet isn’t great, some don’t have locks, most don’t have light, all feel gross. Lockers are okay but many have broken wristbands. Only 3 showers which isn’t enough after a 40 person class. The last few weeks, 2 of the showers have been broken so really not good. I think the next refurb (not an easy job I know) needs to be concentrated here, it’s not nice leaving the gym/pool feeling dirty after a shower. Also, staff are nice enough but I get the impression they need a little more training/info as quite often I’ll have to speak to 3/4 people before finding someone with the answer. Not their fault at all, just comes across a bit disjointed as a new starter.
Fantastic experience: Kind and helpful staff!
Fantastic experience: Great spin class on a Monday morning!
Negative experience: When I go down to take my so Swimming they are always fully booked, so they say call up next time before but you call and nobody answers the phoned what are you supposed to do
Negative experience: - Very dirty pool and changing rooms. Awful smell from the toilet I don't think it's been clean ever . + Good and friendly staff
Fantastic experience: Pool was lovely and warm in both pools!!
Negative experience: The price is not brilliant for the amount of time allocated. We as a family of 5 paid £15 for 45mins. Water is tepid. No longer value for money, card payments only which is not the best idea, it was only due to someone else commenting on fb about it being card only otherwise I wouldn't have know as I only had cash available.
Negative experience: Very expensive and filthy dirty
Fantastic experience: Had whole small pool to ourselves and use of some accessories. Clean and fun
Negative experience: I was gonna go with my friend at 7 o'clock and we arrived at 1 minute to 7 and we had been currently earlier at about 4 and they said it was on at 7 but they told us that it was full so if they had told us earlier it would've been alot better
Negative experience: Pool is great and staff are friendly, and these are the only positives I could find. But: - the car park is quite small and it can get busy, so you can find yourself not having where to park or parking in the council spaces if it's late evening or weekend; - there are only 3 showers in the women's changing area and the surface around them up to the pool is incredibly slippery; - changing rooms are freezing and not well lit; - not all toilets in the pool area work and those working don't have a lock on the door. Also there's a strong smell of urine as soon as you walk in the changing area; - vending machines quite often swallow your coins without giving anything back.
Fantastic experience: Love this place ...been going for 7 yrs off and on ... there is everything you need from a gym to 2 swimming pools ( baby one too ) the fitness classes are great and if your child or the child on you likes climbing they also have a climbing wall ... they do parties also fab place
Fantastic experience: Love to swim here and finish off with sauna then a drink in the cafe.
Negative experience: Very unclean they don't bother to scrub the changing rooms and the smell like wee. Also people leave stuff in the changing rooms to claim them needs to be improved
Negative experience: Junior gym is absolutely appalling, have to book on to go even thoughtl already payed in membership and very rude staff. Jake from the junior gym staff is absolutely terrible he kicks kids out and doesn't follow the managers rules. 1/10
Negative experience: It’s pretty much a waste of time trying to book any activities over the phone as it’s hardly ever answered by anyone, I have left a message to call me back in the past but after 24 hours with no response I ended up driving over and booking in at the reception in person, I mentioned to them that I had called several times and got no answer even after leaving a message and all I got was blank looks from the staff. I’d rather drive and use the Meadowside in Burton TBH, it’s such a shame as it could be good if ran properly.
Negative experience: Poor experience, told 3 different things by 3 different staff, inaccurate information given by staff, staff on reception had "not bothered" attitude. Session only lasted 45 minutes and then told to get out, as next session starts in 15 minutes, Changeing rooms poor lighting and poor hygiene. So overall £6.40 for less than 45 minutes. Overall a poor experience and will not be visiting again even though this is my local leisure centre.
Fantastic experience: Visited for splash fun session, great fun, only criticism is that you can't go from teaching pool to main pool during the session its either one or the other. Not ideal if you have one child who can swim and one who can't and you're on your own.
Positive experience: The place itself is good, good facilities, good range of classes, the price is fair. However try to phone them!! I think I tried for about 30 minutes once and no one answered. I have also tried leaving a message and got no call back. If it wasn't for this it would probably be 5*
Fantastic experience: Hard work for a 71 year old, but getting to enjoy the workout. Staff are excellent.
Positive experience: Great community swimming pool for lessons. There are plenty of activities on offer and has an indoor climbing wall. However the changing rooms are neglected and in desperate need of a refurb or at least light bulbs!
Negative experience: Never answer phones and always get turned away for children’s swim
Negative experience: If u compare it to any cheaper network this one looks a bit poor. There is a lack of some equipment. Like u can't workout calves or abdominals. So £27/mont for a gym only, is a bit expensive.
Positive experience: I can only comment on the pool as o have never utilised any other facilities. Nice, good sized changing rooms with parent and child cubicals with fold out changing stations. No family rooms however so your kid has to pick a parent The pool is a good size, always warm and it never seems to get "too busy" during the public swims. Also the sauna is available with a swim ticket Friendly staff.
Fantastic experience: Brilliant gym if you want to focus on your workout everone mind their business and you enjoy your time spend there. Staff friendly and always happy to help
Fantastic experience: Do great yoga classes
Positive experience: I have used Etwall leisure centre run by the same company. So it is inevitable that comparison is made subconsciously. I found this not as clean.
Fantastic experience: Swimming area good.
Negative experience: When phoning up before arriving we have been given the wrong information several times now. We drive a good distance to get to GreenBank, as we like the pool and facilities. Staff are rude when arriving at the leisure centre, this morning two ladies were gossiping to other staff and an elderly couple, we were completely ignored. Then finally we were spoken to and they came out with lots of excuses as to why we were given wrong information over the phone. Will not be going again
Negative experience: Absolutely freezing, heating broken, not told this till after we had paid, recommend you ask before paying If its been fixed
Negative experience: Absolute disgrace, i was told I cannot use the sauna when kids are swimming with schools, due to them hiring the swimming pool out. If this is the case, then everyone should be CBS checked who has a membership. The membership should be discounted due to the sauna out of use for majority of the week. Or move the sauna, or have window tint to stop people seeing out. So everyone is guilty until proved otherwise. Disgrace and should be ethical not possible.
Negative experience: Free parking and friendly welcome but felt the pool was dirty and changing rooms were freezing.
Negative experience: Nobody to answer calls, lack of service very poor
Negative experience: You could have staff that actually answer the phone for help and enquiries. 6 calls no answer, 1 call even cut off. Id say poor but didnt get any service!
Negative experience: Not impressed you had to stand outside when there was lots of room inside dressing rooms where horrible and smelly oo ughhh the sinks where dirty
Positive experience: Nice venue, pool is a little dark, could be better lit but otherwise an excellent venue.
Positive experience: Got lots of stuff, pool is good, have been when they have inflatables in the pool. The children have lessons and here. It's a bit tired but not dirty. Cafe is open.
Fantastic experience: Great for kids aswell, my kiddie winks absolutely loved it today and they was kept very busy the whole time their, Ace staff.
Fantastic experience: Friendly team goods facilities , clean and safe
Fantastic experience: Great staff. Lovely and friendly. Exterior could do with a makeover but that's just aesthetics
Fantastic experience: Tuesday Night spin classes here are amazing!!! 6:00pm!!!
Fantastic experience: An amazing parent and child swim session this morning!! We had the whole pool to ourselves and the kids loved it. Amazing and friendly staff and extremely cheap. Will be going next week!
Fantastic experience: Great safe swim.
Negative experience: Very poor gym equipment is worn and needs replacing DO NOT GO HERE FOR GYM ONLY!
Negative experience: Had to cancel an Adult Swim lesson last minute due to sciatica pain, used online system, no warning that I might still be charged or "Call us to cancel". I've been charged twice for it and no communication. I have tried to call 3 times today so far, even left a message, no one picks up. I want a refund and i've messaged them on facebook as not happy. Tis a shame because otherwise the swimming pool is good. Update 27/10/2020: I got a response on Facebook Messenger to email them on [email protected] which I now have done. So Facebook Messenger was a complete waste of time as nothing else mentioned, just a misdirection!
Fantastic experience: Love this place, for me personally a rehabilitation station, quality!
Fantastic experience: I enjoy my time spent in the gym at Green Bank Leisure Centre. It is a excellent leisure centre to use.
Positive experience: Early Sunday morning great time to get in gym as quiet and nye on free rein of equipment...!
Fantastic experience: Great workout today
Fantastic experience: Great space. Loads of room if you wish to book a party. Had soft play bouncy castle and a facepainter (fantastik faces)
