Positive experience: Great place but has no free parking. Parking is the main issue with this gym.
Fantastic experience: I came into a gym for the first time last week scared and concerned George was very encouraging and showed me a few pieces of equipment.

Positive experience: Does the job for the price
Positive experience: Less than good. The gym itself floods on a regular basis now and there have been times where multiple pieces of equipment are condemned due to flooding. This is obviously not ideal in terms of health and safety and especially when the gym is busy. The water seeps in through the walls/floors where there is electrical fixtures and wiring. Furthermore, to address this issue, the gym staff get a wet and dry vacuum cleaner to dry the floors which is very loud and distracting. The only saving grace is that it drowns out the annoying music that gets played on repeat day after day. Even with headphones/ear phones you can still hear it. Also, there are constantly buckets left around the place to catch dripping water at even the slightest amount of rain. Additionally, the fire exit located at the rear of the facility is often propped open with a wet floor sign or traffic cone?? This is a clear beach of fire safety protocol as well as the general security of the building. I'm not entirely sure why this is ever permitted as in the event of an emergency there could be people entering through a fire EXIT whilst people are trying to evacuate. This entirely defeats the purpose of having an access code at the entrance for customers as seemingly anyone can just slip in unnoticed, unaccounted for and having not paid the gym membership fees. Finally, the location of this gym/area in which it's situated is known for being inundated with drug addicts and homelessness and the aforementioned people ("Brighton's finest") are a constant issue and concern for locals. The door being propped open like that is an invitation for them to find some warmth and shelter. I have noticed this happening at another gym down the street where homeless people sleep inside the entrance way and have somehow bypassed the coded doors. This is not currently an issue for the gym I attend but there is an increased likelihood. The equipment itself is fine (when it's not submerged in water). However, a lot of the attendees are inconsiderate and leave heavy plates on barbells after usage, heavy dumbbells in the middle of the floor and other pieces of equipment all over the place and the staff don't seem to care or do anything about it. The changing rooms (mens) are in a state of disrepair. Seemingly most of the lockers are broken and don't lock and there are often fixtures hanging off the walls or gaps in the ceiling panels which is very uninviting. Also, there are empty disposable water bottles, drink containers from the vending machines and protein bar wrappers on the floor when there are bins clearly located around the facility. There was also a dirty gym towel that had been draped over a piece of equipment, the apparatus for storing the yoga balls, that had been there for 2/3 days that wasn't moved or delt with. I feel sorry for the cleaning staff who do as best a job as they can given the circumstances. The membership fees just recently went up. Not by much but people are struggling enough as it is. I mention this as the quality of service has either decreased in some areas or stayed the same whilst the membership fee has increased. It has become more expensive to attend and the facilities have gotten worse or stayed the same which is effectively the same thing. I can tolerate the obnoxious music, the laziness of staff and other attendees and general untidiness of the gym as it is still relatively cheap to attend and 24/7 so convenient for many. However, the flooding is ridiculous and needs to be addressed before it gets worse. Please spend some of that extra money from increasing the monthly membership on improving the health and safety/security standards before someone gets injured or worse. As a bonus, maybe you could advertise that the gym now comes with a seasonal indoor swimming pool!
Negative experience: Impossible to talk to a member of staff, i had an important issue with my gym and all I received in response was ai generated response, they only focus on packing as many people into rhe space at a given time while raising prices, not to mention I've spotted a man point blank filming me using the hip Abduction machine, at the gym group I want to speak to a human representative

Negative experience: Good size gym but equipment has seen better days and part of the gym has water seeping up from the floor so smells very damp. If it had a refit equipment wise and they sorted out the damp it could be a decent place to work out.

Positive experience: Equipment is ok. Place is dirty - the wrapper from a sanitary pad has been glued onto the sink for days and the gym just generally stinks. As someone who’s just come back from living abroad in a “developing country” for a few years, the quality of British gyms is very low for the price being charged in comparison to what I saw overseas. Employ regular cleaners!! If I can find a nicer gym I will be moving to it ASAP.

Negative experience: Absolute scam! I’m visiting Brighton for two days, they offer a 1 or 3 days pass. Obviously they took the money from my account instantly but the code they give me didn’t work for two days. I was stood at the door twice like an absolute idiot trying to get in. A 24 hour gym with no helpline to talk to anyone and no staff on site to help Don’t waste you money!

Fantastic experience: This gym is a really welcoming, friendly and an exciting gym to be a part of! I had a PT session with Luke, who I would highly recommend, He was fantastic, he made me feel really confident, comfortable and supported when learning how to use equipment and learning good technique! They have a very friendly team that are always on board to help! They offer fun classes, accessible to everyone!

Fantastic experience: This is my first real experience of a gym and tbh it's been great. The space is well kitted out and clean, and the staff are lovely. The PTs are great; they're focussed and work with you on your fitness goals. I'd totally recommend both the space and the PTs to anyone who may be interested.
Negative experience: As a paying client I would expect the toilets to be more clean. Toilet brush made me gag this morning.

Negative experience: So this is still a good gym but it is not anywhere nearly as good as the Eastbourne one. Smaller facility Maintenance issues Equipment's not as good Classes aren't as good And yet they feel like it should cost more money For a disabled person who's literally going to do physical maintenance and physio for their spine. This really sucks. But Still has really good Staff. Classes and people seem friendly The gym group as a standard is really high. Just the quality of this one is less than the Eastbourne. So 3 ⭐⭐⭐

Negative experience: Horrible experience in this gym. Tiny, never any equipment available the moment there's any traffic. When drinking fountains have gone down they took ages to repair. Predatory billing procedures, wouldn't recommend to anyone.

Positive experience: The gym itself is fantastic, but the changing area is a major letdown. It suffers from poor ventilation, leading to unpleasant odors, and it seems to lack cleanliness, possibly due to only being cleaned once daily in the morning.

Positive experience: Excellent gym with great equipment! My only problem is the smelly urinals....they really need to address this. Odour neutralizing urinal pads cost a couple of pounds each - there's really no excuse for that smell. Still a great facility all the same!!

Negative experience: I've been going to this gym for over five years but I'm switching to another one after a rapid decline in quality over the past few years; most PTs leave within a few months, the gym is often 'remotely supervised' meaning not a single staff member is on site, and the PTs that are in are mostly interested in selling you their overpriced generic fitness programmes. The underground space (which is most of the gym) is always flooding after it rains, the lights randomly turn on and off and flicker, and the equipment isn't well maintained. Weights are never put back in the right place, machines are stiff and old and tired, and cardio machines are often broken. A lot of other customers use the equipment dangerously, and teenagers come in in groups after school just to ego lift and stand around with no spatial awareness. The women's changing room toilets are not maintained well - I'm pretty sure one of the toilet stalls has had a broken light for a year or two now - and the showers are miserable. Additionally, the vending machine prices are ridiculous and the yanga flavoured water tastes like it hasn't been cleaned in months. This place has been neglected for years and is only getting worse; do not come here

Positive experience: Twice in the last 4 months the showers haven't been working a all. This is a huge problem for people who work out before going to work. I would have reported the issue to a member of staff, but there was none present. The office was closed and the lights were off. There doesn't seem anyway to report issues in the gym, no phone number or email which I think is a big problem. Other than that, I like the gym. Equipment is good and it's clean as spacious.

Fantastic experience: Best Company Gym in the world
Negative experience: I’ve been coming here for over 5 years and I’ve never experienced much toxic gym culture, until today. Just about an hour ago in the free weights area I see a large man in a baggy grey hoodie, short black hair and beard, wearing shorts, who was walking around acting like he owned the place. He kept throwing weights around, hoarding equipment, and taking up multiple machines/benches at once. I felt pretty uncomfortable. There were no staff in so I had nobody to talk to about it.

Negative experience: If you are thinking of joining this gym, then don't. Every day there is something wrong or not working. The showers are always out of order and again they aren't working and won't be for ages now. Nothing ever gets repaired. However the staff are lovely and I don't know how they put up with all the complaints.

Positive experience: Overall this gym does the job, but they could really improve the cleanliness. Literally no one here wipes down the equipment— likely because there are two bottles of spray in the whole place. I’m sure the staff clean, but it’s very different from other Gym Group locations I’ve been to.
Hi, hope you are well. Robust cleaning and sanitising regimes are still in place and we continue to pump in 100% fresh air ventilation, day and night, we clean on a daily basis, including cleaning of all equipment and gym facilities with anti-viral products. We are now going to start reducing the number of cleaning stations through the gym whilst still providing cleaning materials for those members who desire them to clean down kit. Having cleaning stations has resulted in a significant increase in the amount of paper waster and we are focussed on minimising our waste as part of our commitment to Net-Zero. We are proud to be the very first Carbon Neutral Gym Chain in the UK. This is just a part of our efforts, for example we are also taking steps to reduce the amount of single use plastics in our vending machines.

Fantastic experience: Fantastic value gym, good variety of classes; brilliant that they're free to members. The early morning classes are ace, and normally I love a lie-in! The staff here are great - they make the classes fun but also provide advice on technique and posture. The team work super hard and create a really friendly and inclusive atmosphere.

Negative experience: The equipment is not too bad but my god does it smell awful in there... Think body odour and damp, which is amplified by how hot it is in there. Its off putting enough to make me want to change gyms and they should really do something about it, maybe spray some febreeze or fix up their ventilation

Positive experience: It is a decent gym, they have the standard machines, the fact that it’s 24h open makes it easy to visit anytime you are free. it is often busy between 17:00-20:00 so avoid those hours if you don’t want to wait to use a machine.

Fantastic experience: I love attending The Gym London Road. Always have great experience with classes, equipment, and staff and I always enjoy meeting my friends there for the social aspect as well as working out. It is a good budget gym in a good location with the advatange of 24hrs access for us early doors goers. Additionally, I found that training for the Brighton Half Marathon at the gym was a good option for me during the winter months as opposed to running outside both weather wise and from a safeguarding perspective. Negative experience: I’ve been going here since last summer and have finally cancelled my subscription and joined another gym. Lots of equipment is taped off/out of use, there’s a lack of sanitising stations so no one wiping down kit, and a really bad smell in the men’s changing rooms (and sometimes in the main gym). The gym also temporarily closes frequently without any notice and no explanation. I understand that there’s been flooding issues there recently, but I’ve left feedback twice about adding more sanitising stations around the gym and nothing has changed for months. All other gyms I’ve been to have had a lot of sanitising stations around the gym which makes it easier to wipe down kit and encourages everyone to keep the gym clean - it can’t be that hard/expensive to implement this. It just generally seems unclean on top of the bad smells, so not a pleasant place to work out.

Negative experience: Fix the flooding problem! I cannot keep track of when the gym is open anymore as I get multiple emails a day telling me they've closed, they're open and then closed again. I've twice turned up in the last month and the place is shut which is a waste of my time (it's a two mile walk there and back) and money. I've chosen to join the London road gym for a reason, I don't want to use the Madeira drive gym so offering that up as an alternative isn't good enough. Don't bother people, go over the road to pure gym instead.

Negative experience: I’ve been a member for about 8 years. Always had issues with flooding. Recently it’s become unbearable due to sewer smell, machines out of action , closing at short notice. Emailed to complain, basically got a shrug as a response. Do yourself a favour and go ANY other gym.

Negative experience: Frequently shut for vague reasons (they've randomly shut twice now in the last 2 weeks). Constantly damp downstairs with sections closed off with red tape. Generally in a state of disrepair and unpleasant, wouldn't recommend and I'll be switching my membership to Pure Gym across the road the moment my current one finishes

Negative experience: Got kicked out of the gym last minute due to flooding, since the flooding the smell in the toilets have been unbearable, the gym smells like urine 24/7, is too busy relative to how small it is and the equipment is poorly maintained and half of the time stuff is stolen without being replaced. Really regret buying a 1 year membership, just want to train at a different gym to be honest.

Negative experience: Staff are not helpful ask for assistance with a machine, staff member said “ ask someone else” after she couldn’t help meaning to ask a random person in the gym for help. Being female being told to ask a majority male gym I felt very uncomfortable. Will probably move go to puregym.

Positive experience: I like this gym and I enjoy going in the evenings. The 24 hour is a massive benefit and it’s clean. however I finished my workout at half 2 AM Today and I went to use the shower and they all weren’t working so I then went to use the sink to clean myself a bit and Lady came in and started having a go at me for using the sink. I told her the shower wasn’t working and then she told me I shouldn’t even be in the changing rooms and it should be closed. I’m confused, does the changing rooms close at a certain time to be properly cleaned?

Negative experience: Spent £8.50 for a day pass to try it out and wish I didn't. All the machines are rusty and unclean, dumbbells are musty looking and the floor was uneven making the benches unstable. Even saw a couple of rowing machines with plates left on them to hold them in place because they clearly couldn't be bothered to bolt them down. At £23/month this place is not worth it.

Positive experience: I've been a member since it opened in London Road (8 years, I guess). It's clean and well-equipped on 2 floors with lots of machines, free weights and stretching/ yoga areas. I don't do classes, so can't comment on them, but the staff are very friendly and approachable and offer personal training etc. They play good music, not too loud, so it's not intrusive. And they're highly Covid conscious - so, plenty of cleaning stations around the building. Electronic doors, so u can get in and out 24/7 with your unique 8 number passcode. Fully air-conditioned and always a comfortable temperature. Highly recommended.

Positive experience: I've only been coming for a couple of weeks, but I find it overall good enough for its price. There are plenty of spots early in the morning, they have a really large selection of machines and the changing rooms are big enough and clean. My only critique is that too often I see people not following the Covid-19 rules (not wearing face masks when not training, for example), and no member of staff tells them anything.

Positive experience: Decent size gym and plenty of equipment. The gym is located at the lower street level, which was hard to find at first. It's close by to everything and would recommend this gym if you're in Brighton. It does get very busy.

Positive experience: Decent gym for the money. Lots of classes on offer and a decent size. I only train in the morning before 8am however due to the number of people there. I wouldn't advice going during lunch times or evenings! Stay at work / home!
