Enabling people to lead happier, healthier lives through regular physical activity. Our aim is to promote general wellbeing, by providing a safe and supportive environment for the whole community to feel welcome and encouraged to visit us
Please note that due to a swimming gala, our car park will be busier than normal this weekend (11 and 12 January 2025) so please allow additional time to arrive for your activities.
Virtual studios enable us to provide a scheduled programme of virtual classes in both studio rooms to complement our live, instructor led classes. This means we can provide a wider variety of motivational and effective classes, more flexibility in terms of programming and more classes in total.
You are also able to access virtual classes on demand at a time that suits you, whenever there is not a programmed live or virtual class in the studio. This is accessible through a wall mounted tablet in the studio and you are able to pick and choose from the menu of class options.
All this is available to Life Zone members as a complementary extra to the membership, and £3.70 per class (either on demand or scheduled) for all other members.
We decided to temporarily close our health suite facilities which are located in seven of our leisure centres in January 2023. This was primarily due to the high costs to run them, at a time when energy costs were soaring, and the impact on the council's carbon footprint.
Following a period of due diligence, we have now reopened the health suite facility at Five Rivers Health on a trial basis to assess its effectiveness and usage. It's important the facilities are viable and we're in the process of working out the best way to offer these services to you at good value, but in a way that's sustainable for us to run. The health suite reopened in September.
In line with our aspiration to become carbon neutral by 2030, Wiltshire Council has been undertaking a programme of works across many of its buildings to reduce the energy used in those buildings. These works will also reduce carbon emissions and help to lower energy bills. You can read more about the whole programme in our recent press release.
The council was awarded a grant from the government's Public Sector Decarbonisation Scheme that has funded the installation of a new low carbon heating system at Five Rivers Health & Wellbeing Centre and provided solar panels to produce renewable electricity.
These works are complete, and the centre will no longer rely on fossil fuels for heating and with the Green electricity tariff that the council has procured, the centre will be reporting zero carbon emissions.

Five Rivers Leisure Centre: Opinions
Negative experience: I’ve been trying to buy a membership but I have an international card and at the reception told me to come back next day. The next day was a lady at the reception, she said told me right away that I couldn’t pay for membership without explaining anything , she was so rude and was eating while she was talking to me. So I went to another gym and I had no problems there.
Positive experience: It's got everything a leisure center should have!
Fantastic experience: Brilliant pool for families, access to fun beach pool with great water slide, learner and adult swimming pool for a good price. The variety of pools meant we could all enjoy different activities, from my little girl on the water slide to my son swimming his first lengths in the big pool and the adults getting a good swim in too. We wish we lived nearer this pool and will definitely visit again when next in the area..
Negative experience: Very rude members of staff especially reception and their lady manager. Why is there no online procedure for complaints on wiltshire council website. Something need to be done. Unacceptable customer service. They are in wrong job clearly.
Positive experience: Great equipment and nice staff
Positive experience: It was my first time back in a long while. The place has been revamped very well, and the gym is a lot better than it was years ago. Now, just to get fit again.
Fantastic experience: The new gym is very well presented and well equipped. Staff are friendly as always. The main pool is a good temperature and has ample availability for lane and recreational swimming. The sauna is ok. Steam room needs a clean.
Negative experience: Worst customer service entry set up ever. There is literally one person working the till (even though there are 3-4 of them behind the desk) to admit everyone in this queue. During peak time on a Saturday. You’d have thought they’d never done this before.
Negative experience: Swimming pool isn't open for the general public, Only for paid lessons and groups. Why am I being charged a monthly subscription for a pool I'm not allowed to use and a receptionist that refuses to answer the phone
Positive experience: Used the swimming pool. No queue to enter and friendly staff at the reception desk. The main pool was busy but space was available in the roped off swimming lanes. Clean gents changing room, with adjoining shower area.
Fantastic experience: Great fabulous pool with late night lane swimming most evenings.
Fantastic experience: Clean, well staffed, polite. Good facilities
Fantastic experience: Really good squash club. Great coaches. Nice courts (3). Very active club with really nice people.
Fantastic experience: Very nice cafe
Positive experience: The efficiency of the cafe should be improved to enable customers to have a more enjoyable experience whilst the food needs a great improvement as the wrap I had this morning was awful. It had come straight out of a fridge where it had obviously been for a long time as the wrap was soggy and not an enjoyable experience. Great shame, based on my visit today I would suggest sticking to drinks only
Fantastic experience: Fab 8
Positive experience: Lovely coffee and sandwiches also cake but sandwiches were expensive
Fantastic experience: The leisure centre is a nice place to hang out, friendly staff and lots to enjoy and now with the new and improved cafe area is cosy too..
Negative experience: It's my first visit. They don't accept cash. It is hot sitting here and I can't get myself a drink. Also, no where near enough floats for the amount of people in the pool.
Positive experience: Long time resident, first time visiting. Great space inside, decent coffee shop, pools are a good size and sensible depths for swimmers of all abilities. End of the day so the changing rooms were a bit unkempt!
Fantastic experience: Finally, the jacuzzi has been open on each occasion we have been over the past few weeks. Last year, i was frustrated how each time it was closed due to either "chlorine levels were too high" or "we are waiting for a spare part to fix it". I really enjoy the jacuzzi and it helps my body after injuries, and perhaps just getting older. The gym facilities are great but perhaps could do with an upgrade on some equipment such as dumbells where they are over used and require replacement. The coffee area is excellent and now with the addition enclosed seating area, could work for a working area if you wanted to get out of your house/office for a change of scenery. All in all, a great facility offering a lot of sports and training facilities.
Negative experience: No ventilation at all in huge waiting area. Outdoor temperature 26°, indoor felt more like 36°. Very uncomfortable waiting for someone I was giving a lift to for 2 hours.
Negative experience: It's never clean, the public swimming times are very limited, cafe is not open at useful or consistent times and is massively overpriced.
Negative experience: Awful website, quite cold, irritating lockers that only take 20p (why these haven't been replaced with tokens and contactless, I have no idea). The beach pool was a very underwhelming with only a single small slide in the shape of a duck and a larger flume. No booking on the website, so when we arrived they were full and we had to wait for 30 minutes. Not easy with a 4 year old!
Fantastic experience: Great facilities and incredibly happy and helpful staff. I had a couple of questions as being new to five rivers which where answered very quick and efficiently and all with a happy smile from all staff. The manager showed me around and made me feel very welcome. Thank you to all staff at five rivers, first class service. Some people are quick enough to complain, but not enough are quick enough to give credit. Thank you to all at five rivers. Darren Long
Negative experience: i would give 0 if it would let me but this gym is rubbish, people always complain and tell you to hurry up AND it gives you depts for not turning up to the session that you now have to BOOK so i can only go a few hours at a day. But about the dept, it gives you dept even if you turned up the to session or didn’t even book that day, it is fraud and scamming and we have to pay them, the gym is small and could do with 5 more benches and there are only 20 spaces in the session so it is hard to get in. The website sometimes doesn’t even let you cancel cos the button doesn’t work. Thank you
Negative experience: rubbish website kept giving me debts for not turning up to gym sessions even though I literally turned up to them. some people could be paying these debts for no reason. It’s even worse that you can’t book when you have a debt so if I wanted to book a session for that day I would have to wait until I could go in and clear my debt before I could book it and by then the spaces in that session are gone. this is an outrage!!!!
Negative experience: Facilities are okay, public pool times are pretty poor though. The kids pool doesn't open until 6 or 7 in the evenings which is really inconvenient considering a lot of kids bed times are 7pm. I've complained several times now about the temperature and duration of the showers, pressing a button every 2 seconds is frankly ridiculous and my son jumped out screaming as it suddenly got far too hot, I couldn't even hold my hand under it and his back was pink.
Positive experience: The pool is nice, with lots of life guards and a decent slide. However, you're asked to take off shoes prior to entering the changing rooms, which had a floor that was utterly disgusting. Either clean it regularly or don't tell people to remove their shoes, simple as that.
Negative experience: I take my children to swimming lessons on a Sunday evening and more often than not the tables aren't cleared, rubbish on the floor and as for the changing rooms, fluff and rubbish everywhere obviously haven't been cleaned for hours if at all in the day!
Positive experience: Cafe staff need to up their game and clear and clean tables and high chairs. Quiet Wednesday mid day so no excuse for being too busy. Five Rivers your cafe hygiene needs reviewing urgently as this is not the first time!
Negative experience: I waited at five Rivers for one hour and they would not let me in but let 2 other people on front in and my poor child was screaming and crying because she just wanted to go swimming and i will never be returning to 5 rivers again
Fantastic experience: Nice clean sports centre and staff are polite
Fantastic experience: Lovely swimming pool, clean changing rooms, kind staff
Fantastic experience: What an absolute gem for the younger kids. Took my 2 year old and he had a blast with the under 5’s pool, slide and even a super tube. What a fantastic venue!!! Well worth the visit.
Negative experience: Body pump class rudely wouldn't let me in arriving 3 minutes late due to traffic and turned me away not politely and then charged me.
Negative experience: Seriously rude reception staff. Unable to maintain bookings 3 weeks running. Avoid!
Positive experience: I attend the swimming pool regularly, but of late, the temperature is just off of cold. This is quite off putting. Please adjust this to make it a little more comfortable for the older generation. Thankyou. The coffee shop, is card only. We need to be able to use OUR CASH!!!
Fantastic experience: Lovely place staff outstanding especially the physio
Positive experience: Helpful staff, good facilities ...... but you need 20p for they lockers and you don't get it back. Too easy to forget. I can't remember the last sports centre I went to where they keep the money - it's not a big deal but a pain when you forget you need one!!
Positive experience: Great pool, but unfortunately a very persistent smell of urine in the locker rooms.
Negative experience: Overcrowded pool, people playing volleyball inside the swimming pool as well.
Fantastic experience: A well equipped sports centre with pool, gym, squash courts and multipurpose facilities. Also a local centre for physiotherapy and exercise classes. Helpful staff, attractive membership rates and a coffee bar.
Fantastic experience: Not been there for years. Certainly better than I remember
Negative experience: Despite calling a leaving messages it seems that they never answer the phone. We have been several times with excited children to use the flume but it is has been closed when we get there so want to call them and check it's open but can never get through.
Positive experience: Way, way, way to busy. Used a ridiculous counting system to keep the numbers in the poole down. All the life gaurds were just counting heads the whole time. Really you should just implement a token system or turnstiles or get reception to manage it. Either way it was absolutely packed. Water was salty but i guess that's OK. Good slide, nice building.
Fantastic experience: Freshly updated great new equipment
Positive experience: We attend weekly for my sons swimming lessons, the instructors are great but the lifeguards are NEVER on time so we miss the first few minutes of our lesson (it's only half an hour so minutes count and you pay for it!) also the learner pool recently has been freezing but we were just shrugged at when reported!
Positive experience: Staff are very friendly at this council run leisure centre. Offering Gym, classes, swimming, birthday parties and much more. Work is currently being done at the cafe but they do have a pop up coffee shop with some limited snacks available with Gluten Free options. Pools are a nice size with a large pool, training pool and beach pool. Also has a watcher slide. Well worth a vist
Fantastic experience: Fun venue for kids swimming competitions
Fantastic experience: Great pool lots of attentive staff. Disabled pod for getting in and out of the pool. Good Cafe for hot and cold drinks will definitely be returning
Fantastic experience: I think this place is superb for a public facility. Good swimming pool, we’ll equipped gym, lots of classes, squash courts etc. It’s a community hub and we’ll used.
Fantastic experience: Fantastic pool, children’s pool was nice and warm, cleanliness was not an issue! Is it the Ritz? No, it’s a public swimming pool! But as public swimming pools go it was brilliant! Staff were so friendly and welcoming, lifeguards taking time to very politely tell children and parents to be careful when getting into the pool, lady on the front desk was so lovely! The duck slide was just the right size for toddlers and the water guns were so much fun! We had the best afternoon!!
Fantastic experience: I hadn't been for years and was impressed by the new layout.
Fantastic experience: Great Centre with all the usual chaos and carnage you would associate with a family orientated place.
Positive experience: Overall my experience of the swimming facilities has been good . I swim twice a week and as requested by the centre I leave my shoes at the entrance to the changing room area . Today 17th May I left my trainers in thr place provided only to return and find they had been stolen. How anyone can just steel someone's footware leaving them with nothing to wear home is beyond me . I urge people to take shoes with them to the locker I had to drive home barefoot not a nice experience and probably not legal if I had an accident .whoever the scumbag is I hope they trip you up and you break your neck
Fantastic experience: The staff team were really helpful.
Positive experience: Great place to meet up and use the facilities. Nice relaxing feel to the place nice coffee!
Positive experience: Only used the hall as part of the Salisbury 10 race, but looks a good set up with flumes in the pool, squash courts etc.
Negative experience: The Leisure centre changing rooms and shower area could really do with some long overdue TLC. Little flys come out of the floor drains, and both hair dryers were out of order. Swimming pool tiles have many chips and cracks. Rusty and moldy air vents really look disgusting. Even though there is a sign asking you to shower before going into the pool none of the Aqua Aerobics group do... Really not worth the money to swim in such a run down Leisure Centre.
Fantastic experience: It’s a good leisure centre. What I absolutely hate is the fact that the lockers literally cost you 20p each time you open the locker - you don’t get your 20p back! The pools for babies are a bit cold, definitely need to wear more than just a happy nappy. But after having a shower and getting dressed it’s lovely and warm, but when went with my 7 month old he was too cold to stay more than 30min which is a shame as he absolutely loves swimming. It would be a great idea if there could be a separate pool with at least 32°C water for the little ones.
Fantastic experience: Good place for kids Including swimming pool and gym
Negative experience: I joined 5 River's leisure centre on 06/12/22. A big part of my desire to join the gym was to use the sauna and steam room. At the time of my joining, the steam room was out of order and I was assured by a member of staff it would be fixed and closure of the sauna was never mentioned. One month later on 05/12/2022, I was notified that the sauna and steam room were being closed indefinitely. This frustrated me as I was not made aware of this development during the joining process and feel I was mis-sold a membership as these facilities were key to my joining. Furthermore, the timing of the announcement prevented me from cancelling my direct debit which I believe was quite underhand. I cancelled my membership ASAP and did not use the facilities after 05/12/2022. I asked for a refund and this was declined. During this discussion, their own member of staff did not refute that they were hiding behind T&Cs. The motivation of the closure of the steam room was to reduce costs. I was charged a £25 admin fee to set up a direct debit for a gym I was a member of for only 1 month and £45.95 for a month of a membership that I did not want.
Negative experience: Never just turn up to this place! ALWAYS call before coming. Seriously not reliable. I’ve taken my 1 year old to go swimming here, 3 times in a row the pool has been closed?!?! We drove a 25 mile round trip just to get here and back - such a waste of time and fuel. Staff aren’t particularly nice. Changing rooms could do with more of a clean and they have permanently closed the cafe. They offer vending machines but 9/10 they aren’t working either!!!!!
Positive experience: Good swimming place, it's a shame the cafe has closed I suppose that's due to covid REALLY
Positive experience: Bright lights and clean facilities...hope Swindon has some good centers like this.
Fantastic experience: 2 x Good indoor football pitches. 25m pool.
Positive experience: Pretty good Council facility. Generally clean and well eun
Negative experience: Cafe always closed. Drink vending machine always out of order. Visitors area is unclean and dirty. Typical council establishment. No one wants to know or cares.
Positive experience: It's great to have a leisure centre in Salisbury and this one is fine, the staff I've spoken to are friendly and helpful, but my recent story here is as follows: I'm a type 1 diabetic and I needed to buy a biscuit and a sugary drink , the cafe was closed and the vending machines didn't accept my card or phone contactless payment.. I'm sure I could have asked the lovely staff for something but I didn't want to kick up a fuss, self sufficiency is important to me. So I walked all the way to Waitrose and back again.. a little bit annoyed that there's no place to to buy food.
Positive experience: The beach pool is a lovely spot for little ones. Tonnes of swimming lessons available with enthusiastic and understanding teachers.
Positive experience: Fairly decent, clean, pool was a bit cold for our little ones.
Positive experience: Kids love the beech pool, had a couple of occasions when pools aren't open even tho timetable says they should be
Positive experience: Staff good, cleanliness questionable in showers and sauna
Positive experience: Expensive for what they offer. It’s reasonably clean. Fairly good facilities. The ‘Inflatable Fun’ for kids only lasts an hour – not allowed in before and immediately kicked out at the end of the hour. The Timetable for the Swimming is horrendous. So don’t just turn up….Check First. I have 3 kids and want to take them swimming most weekends. That currently costs £19.80 per visit. So, I looked at Swim Only membership. An adult’s membership alone costs between £274.45 to £344.40 (depending upon DD or upfront payment) Now 4 visits a month at the ‘Visitor’ cost of £5.70 is £273.60 per year. So, unless you are swimming twice a week all 52 weeks of the year….membership does not make sense. (All this excludes the kid’s memberships costs) Even with the Leisure Card option which knocks a whole £1 of the regular costs…..you have to go 48 times in the year to make a ‘saving’. Other things – Café is closed. And you need 20p for the lockers (not refundable)
Fantastic experience: Timeless classic. Staff are great. Shame the cafe no longer exists.
Fantastic experience: Love taking my grandchildren here for swimming. Exercise classes are brilliant
Fantastic experience: This is a good leisure centre. The staff are always friendly and helpful. A nice place to workout. Music is good in the gym.
Fantastic experience: My son is having private lessons here. I'm not sure of the gentlemans name but he is brilliant. Friendly, happy and extreamly knowledgeable
Negative experience: 45 min que to go swimming only to have others lef in straight away
Positive experience: I cannot comment on the actual leisure centre facilities. As I was there for a physio appointment. There is a lot of work being carried out in the area. Car park area could do with being tidied up. Gravel strewn all around
Fantastic experience: Just took school groups swimming, staff very helpful and nice
Positive experience: Great swim, not too busy even for lunchtime in the holidays. Few areas in the changing rooms looking a bit tired.
Positive experience: Not bad. A little tired and all the pools aren't always open.
Positive experience: I go every week for active health class in the pool. I really enjoy it.. why I've not given 5 stars is that the pool is always really cold.
Fantastic experience: Really lovely leisure centre. Nice and helpful front desk staff and the changing rooms for the swimming pools were nice and clean. The lockers are nice and cheap too (20p piece) My daughter really enjoyed swimming there today and the pools were a decent temperature too. Pleasantly surprised by the different types of pools as well.
Fantastic experience: We had a great time swimming while on holiday in Salisbury. The beach pool is ideal for young children and wallowing adults, and its swirling slide is short but fun. There's also a normal pool and a beginner pool. Everything was clean and tidy, and staff were friendly and helpful. You need 20p per locker, for which reception staff were happy to give change when we paid. You don't get the 20p back but some lockers will take all the family's things.
Fantastic experience: A great place to visit with the family. We went swimming and the facilities are great. There are three pools and a fab water slide. Plenty of changing rooms/cubicles and lots of lockets. Highly recommended.
Fantastic experience: Lovely clean and warm pool with toddler and adult spa pools, slides, beach pool, learner pool and large swimming pool. Changing area and showers are warm and clean
Fantastic experience: We went to a ShBam class at 5.15 pm on tuesday, and it was enjoyable. A mixture of hip hop, contemporary dance and others. The dance that freed my spirit. Memorable class.
Negative experience: Last week I tried to contact this leisure centre for a swim with 2 children and 3 adults. Tried over an hour and half for a receptionist to.pick up the phone, kept being on answer phone , left messages but to no avail. Gave up in the end and went to Tidworth , Salisbury lost 5 customers . Recommend Tidworth, receptionist Kim answered straight away and I got all 5 tickets booked
Negative experience: Booked at timeslot and arrived half an hour early. Unfortunately the queue started outside the door! Many people in the queue hadn't booked and were booking future timeslots. By the time we managed to the desk, pay for our session and get changed we had at most 30 minutes in the pool! Could learn a lot from how other centres run bookings during busy periods.
Positive experience: We took our Grandson to Five rivers for his swimming lesson. It's very popular as there were lots of children having lessons and it's good as the parents/grandparents can watch from the balcony overlooking the pool. There are lockers and changing rooms available.
Positive experience: Good facilities and nice people. Prices are quite high for a council leisure centre though. Their phone line can be hit and miss, some days you get an answer and some days you could ring all day and nothing. Online system seems to be updated now, although can't seem to book more than 1 person for a session. Which is frustrating if you want to book for a family of 4 in one booking. If there is that feature I'd love to know, if not I'd suggest getting it sorted ASAP. Overall, the swimming pool and the halls are nice.
Fantastic experience: I'm not a regular here but I took my kids to the pool as a one off on a quiet term time day. The council website timetable was easy to navigate and find information. They actively answered my question on social media sites too (Facebook). The pool was reasonably priced, just over £20 for a family of 2 adults/2 kids over 3 years (under 3's are free). Parking is free for 3 hours. There were plenty of large family changing rooms, with baby change and nappy bins. Outside shoes should be taken off going into the changing area which is a really good system to help keep it pretty clean. The lockers take 20p that is non-refundable, which was a bit of a pain when we needed something extra that we had locked up (so don't make that mistake!) The beach pool is really great, a very shallow end with duck slide for toddlers, that leads into a round deeper pool for older children. There is a tube slide which was thrilling for my kids, and I could go on with my 1yo on my lap too. In summary, my family was entertained for a couple of hours here so we'd highly recommend. Additionally, I was really impressed with the customer service. We left something in the changing rooms and the next morning it was in the lost property, so we could collect. Phew! Thank you very much for a great experience!
Negative experience: The lights in the carpark don't work, loads of kids coming and going, it's really dangerous in the evening
Positive experience: It's got the only decent sized public pool in the area and it's OK, although main pool is only 25m and rather chilly. The changing rooms could have had a facelift whilst they were out of action for months last year, but they haven't. The jacuzzi hasn't been working for ages either. The lockers (extra 20p which you don't get back) and the showers are rubbish and it all looks like it needs a good scrub in the changing areas and toilets. Apart from that, I can't say anything about the gym or classes, as I only use the pool. The staff are usually helpful and friendly, but it's sad that the café hasn't been reinstated now that things have improved.
Positive experience: Good enough for swimming with little ones with the fun pool and slides. Could do with more weekend staff to allow more people in the fun pool and have the other child's pool open as the big main pool isn't really suitable for non swimmers or those less confident
Positive experience: I didn't use the fitness facilities as I was there for a conference function. Looks good though, pool, sports hall, gym equipment and a restaurant. Big and airy building with lots of natural light.
Negative experience: Turned up for a swimming lesson, but teacher is ill and they hadn't phoned the majority of the class. Obv admin issue, teaching is very good
