Our comment from FitFit UK about Cirencester Leisure Centre - Freedom Leisure:
Cirencester Leisure Centre, operated by Freedom Leisure, boasts a range of impressive facilities and classes that cater to various interests and ages. The centre features a spacious gym well-stocked with a diverse array of equipment, making it a great choice for fitness enthusiasts seeking variety in their workouts.
Positive Aspects:
- Friendly and welcoming staff that create a warm atmosphere for all visitors.
- Clean facilities including the gym and swimming areas, praised by many users.
- A well-maintained swimming pool suitable for both casual swimming and structured classes like swimming lessons.
- Great squash courts that are well-kept, offering additional sporting options.
- Exciting refurbishment projects are underway, promising enhancements to the amenities in the near future.
However, some users have expressed their frustrations:
- Communication regarding changes in pool schedules has been inconsistent, causing disappointment among users.
- Some facilities, including water coolers and showers, have faced issues and delays in maintenance.
- Parking availability can be a challenge, with metered parking making visits less convenient.
- Overcrowding during peak hours has been reported, particularly in the swimming pool.
- Booking for classes has become more challenging due to changes in the system, leading to complaints about accessibility.
Overall, while there are areas for improvement, Cirencester Leisure Centre has the potential to be a great venue for sports and leisure, thanks to its dedicated staff and ongoing efforts to enhance the customer experience.

Cirencester Leisure Centre - Freedom Leisure: Opinions
Negative experience: Really frustrated about lack of communication regarding pool changes. Please communicate clearly if you are going to change lane swimming times. I feel the centre has gone downhill since Freedom took over. Used to absolutely love going swimming at this leisure centre and now it's just always disappointing for one reason or another
Hi Caroline, Thank you for your feedback, this will be passed onto our operations team to discuss during their next meeting. We are always aiming to improve our services and hope you have better experiences soon. The recent refurbishment project is nearly complete and we hope the new changing rooms and upcoming water features will make your future visits enjoyable. Thank you.
Positive experience: Overall the facilities are a bit lacklustre, it looks good on the face of it but as you look closer things are worn or broken, the gym water cooler for example, it was out of order for ages, it then got fixed but the water pressure is low and the tap/dispenser part is broken so wobbles everywhere. Gym has lots of equipment which gives you a broad range of activities to try and there are plenty of benches to use. It is best going in the morning when it is quiet, if you go circa 4:00pm its full of doesn’t. Gym is open late most days but it closes at 6:00pm on Saturday so no evening pump before a night out. Edit: Water cooler now pumping warm cloudy water.
Hi Rambo, Thank you for your feedback - will ensure this reaches our operations team. Exciting times ahead with the refurbishment project that is taking place. Thank you - Cirencester Leisure Centre.
Negative experience: Five weeks for some work this is the way too long.It is a good thing to improve but why it should be done when is going warm.My daughter wanted to go home.,she was very disappointed. I had no email to advertise this. Just very poor, not a good service.
Hi Ionela, Thank you for your feedback. We are sure the refurbishment project will definitely be worth the wait and transform the customer experience at Cirencester Leisure Centre. We have been updating our customers on social media, our website, via the app and also with emails. During your next visit please check the details we have for you with reception - this way we can ensure you do not miss any updates. Thank you - Cirencester Leisure Centre
Fantastic experience: My partners been very unwell and we have been coming to the junior pool 3 times a week to get back on track - please thank the pool team for being so great as they keep telling him that he’s doing so well and improving. That’s like gold to him. Thanks
Hello, thank you for your 5* review! We are so pleased to hear your partner has had such a positive experience at our leisure centre. We will pass this feedback onto our centre.
Fantastic experience: Overall a friendly atmosphere with great receptionists expecially. They are always very welcoming. I lost my membership card and the lady on reception this Evening was very friendly and helpful. There are issues with the pool facilities, however I'm told these are being updated. I feel they need a maintenance team in place to deal with the issues as they arise. The gym is superb with great equipment.
Thank you for your lovely review Joel!
Positive experience: Cold showers today and steam room not working - informed the duty manager knowing they take little notice to act on the problems- always excuses. Disappointing- the ‘head honchos’ need to do better. I feel sorry for the lifeguards and receptionists who get moaned at when it’s not their fault. Lots of people complained today.
Hi Sue, Thank you for taking the time to leave a review. Our contractors were informed of the problem yesterday afternoon and we are pleased to say this has now been resolved. Hopefully you received our newsletter regarding the exciting refurbishment updates coming to Cirencester Leisure Centre this year. Thank you.
Negative experience: Please bring back the waiting lists for classes , it's impossible to get a booking now :(
Hi Katie, Thank you for taking the time to leave feedback. We are running another meet the manager session on Thursday 7 March at 6:00pm if you wish to discuss anything further. Thank you.
Positive experience: Great venue. Mainly use it for the squash courts but everything else seems nicely busy
Thank you for your review Peter!
Negative experience: Leisure centre very bad very homophobic atmosphere
Hi Lucy, Can you please contact us directly regarding your comment. Thank you- Cirencester Leisure Centre
Negative experience: Membership is now 34.99 under new membership (Jan 2024) - pricing is not included on website (this I can only believe is deliberate as some people are overpaying). When I realised I was paying too much (under new pricing model), they would not refund me the difference since the new management took over with the excuse being supposably I was paying for ‘multi location membership’. For the record, I have no clue where the other locations are. I was recently caught out by opening hours around the week of Christmas. Opening hours on their website did not reflect reality and I turned up to a closed gym twice. Honestly if you’re looking for just a gym - go to Pure Gym. Only reason I use this is because of the Sauna.
Positive experience: Good leisure centre but can we have more comms e.g latest pool closure the website was never updated and no email or communication to your paying guests
Negative experience: Cannot book swimming online anymore since it changed group. Driving over from nearby towns, to then have to pay for parking, and then be told it's too busy for swimming is a terrible experience.
Positive experience: Clean facilities, pool is overcrowded over the weekends. Winter season pushes people to swim indoors and hence too many swimmers in the pool during winter months.
Negative experience: I usually going swimming at 12 but this time I went at 19.00. Omg ,never again. Seems like they letting absolutely everyone in. There was no slow line, which they did not say anything on website so I was the only one slow swimmer then all those fast people going splashing everywhere. Horrible. It's so expensive as well,6.40 ,I don't think you can find more expensive swimming in all cotswold or Gloucestershire. I did spoke to someone in reception about that but what can they do. It was so much better when you could book online. At least it wasn't busy like at London underground.
Fantastic experience: Great staff and members. Great help when needed.
Positive experience: Answer the phone. You can’t get info about memberships online. So you have to call. They don’t answer. So you have to go in. The membership is £26 for 2 weeks. £36/month when done via direct debit. Facilities are good. Gym good. Sauna/steam good. Please start answering your phone.
Negative experience: Since changing ownership and becoming Freedom Leisure I haven't been able to go swimming after work. It seems they have booked every afternoon hour for children swimming lessons... I understand children need to learn to swim but this is ridiculous! 9 hours a day of private hire. 4.5 hours available for members Why am I paying to be a member when the members get shafted! The building seems to be run down and getting dirty too....Gym windows inside and out are filthy & Showers are full of pubic hairs!
Negative experience: The staff are not helpful at all. Giving mixed information like what the hell is right or not. And just sat on their desk & not being helpful. Also the gym is expensive and didn’t tell you you.
Negative experience: This is the fourth time in the past month that my children swimming lessons got cancelled. I find very disappointing the fact that they can’t even let us in the pool with our children at class time because they re-assign the life guard to other activities, if they can’t find anyone to substitute the teacher the least they could do is let us in the pool with our children so they keep gaining confidence instead of loosing it, this happens at least once or twice a month and it is very annoying
Positive experience: Lovely swim teachers but the necessity of booking everything via a distinctly useless app, pretty unhelpful receptionist (constantly pointing you back at said useless app), and expensive parking make it an overall pretty poor experience
Negative experience: Difficult to get hold of on the phone, website the most confusing and hard to negotiate. Overall poor
Positive experience: Excellent squash courts and facilities in general. Just a shame that you have to pay for parking.
Fantastic experience: Well equipped and well managed.
Fantastic experience: Absolutely awesome venue for all things leisure and exercise! Superb staff, friendly welcoming gym environment with well stocked equipment to give a whole body workout. Extensive range of classes and even a separate room with a variety of machines designed to be used as a circuit, even has HUGE digital timers at each end visible with ease! Swimming is suitable for competent swimmers and young members wanting to learn as they have a learner pool! Squash courts are well kept. Membership was easy to arrange and a superb price for monthly payments. Parking is plentiful but you must ensure you display a valid ticket or exemption as a member because the wardens are astute and punctual! I strongly recommend for anyone local to get fit and maintain a healthy lifestyle!
Positive experience: I am not too sure what to post the receptionists great, Frankie and James great, however HQ ??? Price hike on membership no notification !!, when quieried no consultation as of yet after telephone calls. I have been out of visiting due to Covid (have informed centre) and I am getting messages saying no attendance why would I book classes??? I have not been to work in the given dates so why would I book classes ??? thinking of leaving/cancelling
Fantastic experience: Very good, easy parking, clean and friendly, pool a little hot but great for the little people.
Positive experience: I've just joined still to use the facilities but was put straight at ease
Fantastic experience: Really good experience. Very happy cheerful staff. The changing rooms and pool were both very clean.
Fantastic experience: Very well organised in Covid times with pre booked slots for 3 lane swimming via app; slow, medium, fast - the fast lane was not as fast as I thought. Lockers and changing facilities are easy but some lockers broken. Communal shower area.
Fantastic experience: One of my favourite places . Great staff , very diligent and has good facilities
Fantastic experience: Nice gym that's not often too crowded, full of very good equipment that's well maintained and feelss clean. Great pool as well with low chlorine levels. The table tennis is expensive, especially now there are free tables in st Michaels park and the Abbey grounds. I've also played squash, badminton, roller skating and kids parties there which are all great and I would recommend.
Negative experience: PRO'S... Great place to take the kids for a swim. CON'S... Very rude lady receptionist very sarcastic towards me and my wife asked to swap a 2 pound coin for two 1 pound coins for the locker and was told they couldn't do it due to having no change and I should of come more prepared!!! Then asked the lady about membership and was told to look on the website very rude and blunt wont be going again just becouse of this lady.
Fantastic experience: Friendly helpful staff, great pool and variety of classes
Fantastic experience: Very good facilities, very well organised, and the free parking on Sundays also helps
Fantastic experience: Great gym, plenty of equipment. App available to record exercise, book sessions etc
Positive experience: Nice place to spend time
Fantastic experience: Good classes
Fantastic experience: Great pool. Lanes off for people who want to swim lengths. Good, freindly staff.
Fantastic experience: Excellent gym ,but don't get misled by its website listing incorrect opening times over holiday periods. Just had to renew my annual sub's . Takes a lot to surprise me these days ,but the cost was less than last year! And what with the continuing free parking its almost unbelievable . Worth every penny.
Fantastic experience: A place that I felt safe and proteced
Positive experience: Used to enjoy swimming here but now it's impossible as it's fully booked well in advance. Great leisure centre. I advise people park elsewhere if they have to and use their feet. Disabled parking is free.
Positive experience: The staff are fantastic! Lovely friendly and makes it a get atmosphere to be in.. Can't fault the staff and it is clean and tidy always. What let's it down is Everyone Active! Countless lockers broken affixed with the standard sorry sticker. Feels like a lifetime not being fixed. Sauna has had new seating which is great. Though the relax zone showers which people pay more for. For a nice experience have been 'fixed and down graded' 3 times now, Poor!
Fantastic experience: Our whole family loves Cotswold leisure centre. The pools are lovely, the staff are friendly and helpful and the classes are varied and always popular.
Fantastic experience: I went for LBT a class l don't usually do. Really loved it recommend it to any one
Negative experience: It’s a shame, despite being very few bookings ,that squash is so expensive. With no options to include it within a normal membership. On top of this the courts see little maintenance or cleaning.
Positive experience: The price is off-putting; overpriced for a swim compared to other leisure centres, including other Everyone Active branches.
Fantastic experience: Good classes
Negative experience: Very bad reception. Very rude. No any friendly reception. No children parking. only 2 space for children parking. Teachers are very good. Very nice teachers. But reception very rude.
Positive experience: Parking is huge problem.
Fantastic experience: Good classes. Thank you.
Fantastic experience: A wonderful experience, had a joyous time with my nephew!!
Negative experience: Pretty small free weights section with only one squat rack and bench press. Always over-crowded. Website opening hours never correctly reflect the opening hours around christmas.
Fantastic experience: Only use the gym Great, with helpful staff
Positive experience: Provides multiple opportunities to play various types of ball and racket sport / swim/ scuba dive training / keep fit etc.
Fantastic experience: Fun and easy to access
Fantastic experience: Freindly and fun
Fantastic experience: Nice place staff are lovely.
Positive experience: One of the better leisure centres you can go to. Not the cheapest but lots to do. Friendly staff, clean and safe.
Fantastic experience: Very big gym with much more to offer
Fantastic experience: Great venue
Fantastic experience: Decent gym,not much space for free weights though, pool is large and check before going though as classes are held in it. Squash courts are well kept and there is many activities you can do in the hall for a decent price and they cater for any age. They even do inflatable birthday parties for younger ones.
Negative experience: Dirty in the changing rooms and people walking by the pool side with no shoe protectors. No one stops them
Positive experience: Average small town leisure centre. Bare bones...swimming changing rooms last refurbished in the late 80’s early 90’s - changing rooms look VERY tired indeed. Nothing stands out in whats available here. Parking can also be an issue sometimes as it is metered and so people use it for more general parking and go to work taking up spaces all day so is often full or almost full even when the centre itself is not busy at all!
Positive experience: Clean and well staffed. Nice learner pool with excellent life guarding. Large 25m pool suitable for those who want to swim lengths. Nice cafe with seating to watch while others exercise.
Positive experience: Great for swimming lessons.
Fantastic experience: Very nice place!!
Fantastic experience: Great place. Nice size pool gym is good lots of different machines to use
Positive experience: Not a good place for parking. But there are other car parking
Negative experience: Simple fact is that they oversubscribed the gym memberships. So it is far too busy at peak times. Have tried going here twice and just got frustrated with the amount of people there. If you want an early morning swim, don't bother.
Negative experience: If you ever thought of becoming a member of Cirencester Leisure Centre think twice, bear in mind the following points: parking is rarely available on site ( so don't assume you are getting a free parking with your membership) most days of the year showers are not in working condition, especially in sauna area drinking fountains are also out of order most of the time changing rooms stink of urine and are rarely cleaned sauna was not functioning for 2 weeks this year, and no compensation was received despite the contract conditions staff is very rude, indifferent and unprofessional, especially at reception and tend to mislead members when asked to be put in contact with their Head Office to resolve any issues computerised systems of the Head office and Cirencester leisure system are not coordinated, so even if you are issued so-called free guest passes expect to be humiliated and blocked. Poor customer service and mostly indifferent at all times. If you recommend another member to them, you won't get any acknowledgement for that whatsoever unlike at other centres. People with sensitive skin or babies, beware: you can get skin diseases from poorly maintained pool and dirty changing rooms not all lockers are in working condition, so leave your stuff their at your own risk
Fantastic experience: Very clean
Positive experience: Very over priced and awful expensive parking but my daughter is learning to swim and her teacher is fantastic.
Fantastic experience: Nice staff
Positive experience: Nice pool and lots of good staff offering good gym classes
Positive experience: Good swimming facilities
Fantastic experience: Brilliant
Positive experience: Nice showers. Good squash courts.
Fantastic experience: Really helpful staff. Good sized family changing rooms and large lockers. Teaching pool is very warm and pleasant.
Positive experience: Great place for sport
Positive experience: Lots of different activities to do here. The car park is always busy so get there in plenty of time for classes. It's clean and the staff are friendly. Swimming pool is not always open to the public so it's worth checking the timetable on their website
Negative experience: I went into the leisure centre to cancel my membership which I was told it would be taken care of at around March time. I was still charged for several months after and was refused reinbursment.
Positive experience: Good gym - super busy in the evenings
Positive experience: Good facilities, big swimming pool. Can get busy during weekends. Parking not free.
Fantastic experience: Great gym and pool. Also there was a air weights gym for kids who have done the induction course.
Positive experience: Great swimming and friendly staff.
Positive experience: Well equipped leisure centre with a good size pool.
Fantastic experience: Great Gym, good fun for family, onsite parking and cafe friendly staff and good prices
Positive experience: Great facilities.
Positive experience: Well run and always welcoming the one problem is the cars that use the car park and are not using the facilities, annoying. Update. October 2018. There seems to be issues around maintenance. Lockers not functioning, not all lights in changing rooms working and water fountain not working. All this over several weeks. I think council keeping budget tight on management company. As I have mentioned several times but no progress. A shame because it is a good facility. Season ticket holder so not happy with the service.
Positive experience: Lovely Family friendly leisure centre
Fantastic experience: Great facility
Fantastic experience: Clean, light, great facilities
Positive experience: It's a good leisure centre
Positive experience: Good gym, friendly staff
Positive experience: Hard to find place for parking
Fantastic experience: Amazing place!

Fantastic experience: Great facilities.
Fantastic experience: Really good classes and nice well equipped gym. Great for family swimming, lanes up at appropriate times for adults wanting to train or swim for fitness.
