Anytime Fitness Newbury

Negative experience: Joined 2 months before it closed. Paid a fortune to join and get the keyfob and only received a few hours notice all while the vending machines had already been emptied (so they knew about it long before). No way of contacting Anytime Fitness to get some of the money back. Piss Poor.

Negative experience: Was a fantastic gym. But unfortunately now closed. As a member I would have expected to be told. But have so far received no information regarding my membership or been notified regarding its closure. Very poor management.

Negative experience: Was a wonderful gym, would easily be 5 stars. However they closed down permanently with only 30 minutes warning via email, and repeated enquiries about refunding my annual membership have gone ignored

Negative experience: Anytime Fitness Newbury closed permanently via a social media post and a four hour warning email to members. The building’s owner, Parkway Shopping, said the franchisee rejected their negotiations to keep the club running and the AF Newbury franchise blamed the landlord. The gym equipment removal company staff I spoke to on closure day said they’re usually called in at short notice to clear a closed gym when the rent hasn’t been paid… The same thing happened in AF Reading and AF Wokingham. For members, when your AF branch closes overnight, at best, you lose a month’s membership fee (£35-45). Your routine. And you have the additional benefit of ridding yourself of a clingy contractual relationship and a month’s cancellation fee. The problem is with Anytime Fitness allowing franchises to be opened in their name by investors who lack financial nuts or who don’t pack the gear to keep running. I would therefore avoid joining any Anytime Fitness gym anywhere. There are better gyms without the clingy contracts out there. Like AF said, go forth and multiply.

Negative experience: , !!! !!! I had 6 months contract with them , changed job and city in February and my contract ended end of April. I went back in person to cancel it … C.Y said all done all what I need to do to pay one more month fee… which I’ve done (30 day’s contract cancellation)!!! Unfortunately I believed him when he said it’s cancelled… 3 month ago noticed they still taken a membership … immediately cancelled my direct debit via bank app… now they taken to the debt collectors saying I “passed 77 days”… actually it’s funny because don’t know how they calculate with the 77 days … but expecting us 30 day’s cancellation by writing…. I asked( D) to hold until next Friday when I’m paid and guess what I received an email my contract terminated and passed to the debt collectors … the main office number not available and can’t be called at all!!! FU all … in fact y the company owns me 3 months of membership…!!! Never again going to choose this company again. Also the gym oversaturated and certain equipment been broken for months… ! Disgusting company

Positive experience: Lovely gym however BE MINDFUL - the Car Park right outside this Anytime Fitness is not Free and is not the site to park your car. I stopped for a brief session here, and Napier Parking sent me a charge for £60 as a fine, as I thought it was a free car-park for members, when using the facilities. Did not see any signs/information posters mentioning the Rules. Please, be more cautious than I've been, unideal and unfair.

Fantastic experience: I’m a professional Track and Field athlete visiting from Australia and the guys at AF Newbury were so warm and accomodating. After working out at numerous Anytime Fitnesses all across the globe, this is easily the best in terms of equipment, layout and overall friendliness. Couldn’t recommend enough for anyone from beginner to elite athlete!

Fantastic experience: I would just like to start this review off by saying a massive thank you to Callum! I made a request online to have a free trail and within maybe 10-15mins I received a phone call from him inviting me down. He gave me a tour of the gym and was extremely helpful and knowledgeable. He was super friendly and wasn’t pushy on me signing up to a membership. He wanted to make sure I liked the gym and asked for my feedback on my thoughts to see if the gym would be a good match to me. So to round it all off I’ve now signed up to a 12 month membership and I couldn’t be happier. Thanks again Callum!

Fantastic experience: I have been a member at this gym for 5 years now and under the new management of Praj and Callum it has had the biggest turn around! The gym is never over crowded and the members are always so lovely and chatty. Very welcoming for new members / beginners that don’t know how a lot of the machines work. Lots of variety of equipment for different exercises. Comes with 2 hours free parking at parkway even if you don’t go to the gym that day! Nice clean private showers/ changing rooms. Praj and Callum both take such great interest in all of their members no matter what level of fitness they are at. Couldn’t recommend any better!

Fantastic experience: This gym was lacking an atmosphere until the new team took it on last year, since then there has been a wave of positivity making the gym a great place to train. Excellent location with free parking and the bonus of 24 hour access. Well done team AF Newbury.

Negative experience: I paid up-front for the whole year and my gym went bankrupt Reading(Town). Reading(Woodley branch) did'nt honor my membership and offered no help. I feel conned by Anytime Fitness. Do not sign contracts with this company ☹️

Negative experience: Someone I know has tried to get a refund but it's taken them more than 3 months to get the money back and they haven't even given the refund back

Fantastic experience: This gym has been a blessing, along with the staff. Callum who is club manager has improved many areas after such a short period of time. It is clear he can lead with ease but also make a well connected and enjoyable environment for all members.

Negative experience: Is not worth it to pay 45£ monthly and to use broken machine more than 3 months..I don't think they will fix it sooner plus they cut off the WiFi up stairs... bathroom's many times are dirty...etc.

Fantastic experience: A gym I've attended for a number of years. Love the 24hr access and it has all machines you need!

Negative experience: I ask for a refund and I still haven't go it amd it been over a month th since they said they would give it to me and also made a contract with my daughter when she only 17

Fantastic experience: One of the best gym in the UK I've been to. Good equipment downstairs well designed. Much better machines or hammer machines that the gym or puregym don't have. Not much room downstairs but you'll feel this 90's oldschool gym. Modern upstairs with machines and treadmills. If you need a proper gym to train choose anytime fitness . If you like to show off more than training go to pure.

Negative experience: Very bad experience.....I never felt comfortable going to this gym. Claustrophobic, down was no space,...ever, always full with the big guys, couldn't workout relaxed. Didn't enjoy it a bit. And to finish, I haven't been to the gym for like a month before I cancelled my direct debit, so I paid like 1 month widout using the gym, and after I cancelled, they send me the debt collectors because I still have to pay a month even if I didn't use the gym anyway for a month. Ridiculous and horrible. Not recommend at all.sorry but is not at all fair what you are doing ....and is very very expensive by the way.

Fantastic experience: Love this gym. I’m a boater, so travel the canal system, so I see a fair few Anytime Fitness gyms and this one is Newbury is by far the best I’ve visited so far. Nice new building, air conditioning that works well, good modern equipment, clean changing rooms/showers. And I love the water massager machines. I’ve been a few times and it’s never been that busy. Welcoming staff and 2 hours free parking in the car park below. Excellent. Thank you.

Positive experience: Nice gyms if you're just into weights, no pool or other facilities hence 3 Star else if you're body builder then this is best gym in town- it's 5 star in that case

Negative experience: THE WORST GYM I'VE EVER BEEN TO!!! First of all the toilets/changing rooms smell worst than the toilets of the services on the motorway. Claustrophobic environment full of screaming gorillas, the equipment is dusty old and damaged.For example nearly all the benches are ripped with the internal sponge filling coming out and some rubber peeled off from weights. The staff is so unprofessional, rude and they gaslight people if you decide to leave the gym. 55 pound a month is a full on robbery for this place and I hope that the new pure gym will put you out of business. Get a shower of humbleness when you speak to your customers cause if you are able to eat, it is thanks to them.

Positive experience: Not my home gym, but visited when in Newbury for work. A fantastic gym which is really well equipped and makes full use of the space. The only reason my rating isn't higher is because on both visits there was a guy working out topless and posing in just his pants. Not sure if he's the owner as I saw him in the office later, but this is just weird.

Negative experience: Terrible people running it tried to cancel my membership due to an injury, which could happen to anyone they had a problem from the start and didn’t want me to cancel now they’re doing anything they can to try get £45 they think I owe them not a good place to be giving money to there’s plenty of better gyms ran by better quality of people one of them’s just at the top of the road they’re on and has a pool (anytime doesn’t) pretty sure it’s cheaper too

Fantastic experience: Fantastic medium sized gym. Though compact, it does have 3 floors for varying different activities. I go there 3 times a week. Staff are very nice and encouraging. Very welcoming atmosphere.

Negative experience: Cheap expensive gym. I had one year contract so I paid monthly 50 £ per month. Even so I was member of the gym for a year last day of the month (on Saturday no staff), last day of contract I couldn't enter gym anymore. It's just seem really cheap action when you pay whole year for gym access to loose your access before your contract finished. I didn't go that often there so I'm not really sure for how long my access was cancelled.

Positive experience: We've been members since day one. The range of equipment is decent and usually in working order. We don't particularly have any requirement to engage with staff (due to hours we attend) so can't comment directly on that, but they seem a good bunch. It's usually OK in terms of general cleanliness, but it's not uncommon to find empty wrappers or cans left at some machines which is disappointing. That said, that is more to do with the majority of clientele who probably still rely on parents to tidy up after them all day long. In truth it's other users that annoy us more than the gym itself, with some of the bugbears being: loud talking / shouting (we don't need to hear everything you're saying), bags strewn on floors / benches / not stowed properly and just the general selfishness / lack of awareness that other customers exist. We would say the rules need enforcing a little more than they actually are (lack of compulsory towels, weight stack slamming, machine wiping, etc) but it looks a reasonably well run ship. In comparison to other gyms we've been to it still ranks quite highly.

Positive experience: Really nice gym, great equipment and facilities, parking is free and readily available as long as you have a membership (shares underground parking with shopping centre) Only reason this isn't 5* is because membership is a 6 or 12 month contract only and is a bit on the more expensive side.

Positive experience: Great no frills gym for people who want to just workout. Solid equipment. If you want pools, classes, saunas and creches, go elsewhere. Also great associated benefits (free parking in parkway, discounts at good local restaurants).

Positive experience: 24/7 and very good workout equipment, but the staff's not very friendly,in big gyms every client is just a number. People can be training badly,with no technique or whatever and nobody will help or correct them.
