Negative experience: The most miserable gym attendants I have ever encountered, cramped changing rooms, poor selection of gym machines.

Negative experience: Aimed at puregym as a whole, website has promo code plastered all over and when I’ve gone to select my gym and entering the promo code it shows is not valid but it is not clear which gems are excluded from this promotion when trying to get assistance via email or phone call or you get is automated responses which don’t address the issue

Positive experience: Convenient in town although that does attract the teenagers after school. Well laid out and decent equipment, lots of friendly people too. Doors to get in can be a bit stubborn. Bit more expensive than some pure gyms but overall, good.

Fantastic experience: No frills but well worth the price, especially considering other gyms are 5+ times the price. It has everything you need for cardio and weights. I work weird hours, so go super early and the equipment is always free. Can imagine it getting pretty busy peak times though. (Wear headphones, the music is awful lol)

Positive experience: Just an update about really upsetting situation with showers , the water is often so cold and unpleasant like they don’t want you to use it at all ((( 24/7 availability gym with an affordable price and good equipment, but it gets so busy sometimes that you can’t even go. That’s a big minus. 120 people under 1 roof doesn’t feel right. But overall it’s pretty good.

Positive experience: I joined this gym when it opened and it started off strong. Fundamentally the gym is great, big open space with all the right kit. However, management is lacking these days. Overflowing bins and empty paper dispensers are a regular occurrence and the drinking fountain’s pressure is eternally variable, which soaks the floor and your shoes. My final moan is that the music they play for the classes is firstly diabolical and secondly so loud my bones have learnt the lyrics. Please don’t ruin the experience for non-class attendees - why don’t you play music quietly so people can still hear their own music rather than force everyone’s ears to bleed or leave the gym. A David Lloyd upgrade is looking very tempting right now. Please fix these things as puregym is great, when managed well. Whinge over.

I like that it’s all on one floor—nicely accessible—and (aside from the studio) all in one room, which feels very open and safe. The changing rooms are a little on the small side, but otherwise adequate.

Fantastic experience: Was skeptical and shy at first but after completing my first day at the gym, I felt more confident returning to the gym the next day. The staff were helpful, patient and understanding. Gym access was confusing at first but easy to understand once you get the hang of it. After you sign up, you'll be given a pin number pass to gain access to the gym, or you can use the puregym app to scan the barcode to enter and leave the gym at any time, depending on your membership options. As for memberships, I chose the cheaper option as I live in the local area. I do just 30+ minutes each day, they are open 24 hours, I go by the off peak times which you can see on the membership conditions, or check on the puregym app 'my account' > 'your gym membership' and it displays the dates and times that you could attend. I added the "bring a buddy" fee to my membership, it helps when I can bring family member along that could use the gym as well. Overall, I am happy.

Negative experience: PureGym are an embarrassment. They make it very difficult to manage / downgrade your membership, spring costs on you then ask you to pay a rejoining fee. No customer support number. Awful customer service. Embarrassing.

Fantastic experience: Very easy to find and park. The gym was on the one floor and lots machine and weights available. Very easy to use. The changing room was clean and tidy. Just enough for the quick gym visit.

Positive experience: Need more cross trainers, 4 is not enough! Also what happened to the air conditioning? It’s way too hot and the a/c has been turned off.

Fantastic experience: PureGym Newbury is very well equipped, kept clean and is abuzz with energy. A great, motivating place to work out and with good staff running the classes! Recommended!

Fantastic experience: Really really great gym, great atmosphere, staff are really friendly and happy to give advice or help if needed or asked for. The gym floor itself is very clean and tidy and gives a very inviting atmosphere even for new starters.

Positive experience: It was great in its early days when the gym first opened. Clean, good equipment, and good classes. But now it's DEEPLY oversubscribed and you have to go at absurd hours unless you want to wait on groups of teenagers that just sit on the machines talking or playing with their phones. They've seemingly decided to either switch the A/C off, or refuse to fix it so the place can get HOT. Yoga classes are also seemingly gone.

Positive experience: It's a reasonable gym. The equipment is still in good condition and new enough, and it's a good location. But it's so oversubscribed now that in the evenings it's common to find everything in use, and you can't get on the equipment you want. If you have limited time available when you can go, then it's frustrating to spend a part of that sometimes waiting for any equipment to become free, let alone the equipment you went there to use. They have a dedicated space for classes, which is good, but they also use the floor area for more classes, which reduces the space and equipment available for non-class users. I guess they just expect a high churn rate, and people to go elsewhere if they're not happy, which is a shame.

Fantastic experience: Great gym to go to. A large variety of machines and weights and plenty of classes to choose from. Very good atmosphere to work out. Plenty of parking.

Positive experience: Great facility and friendly staff, but everyone seems to sit on equipment reading their mobiles and wasting the time of those who just want to work out. Last time there were 5 people on their phones wasting minutes and occupying equipment, very frustrating.

Negative experience: Usually it's a good experience, however today someone had been produced a significant amount of sick next to the lockers and on a few exercises bikes. Thankfully, someone had sorted this by covering it with blue tissue paper and leaving. The smell of stomach acid was pungent across the whole gym. There appeared to be only one staff member, who was the manager, but they were leading a class. They were aware but too busy to sort the mess.

Positive experience: Membership has more than doubled with no notice :( Contacted head office, no discount offered, no reason given, won't even admit they have broken their own T&Cs by not giving notice of an increase. Pros - Free WiFi (finally!) Cleaner than most gyms, lots of equipment, quite a lot of space. Employees are friendly, helpful and polite, and are always tidying up or cleaning, they do a great job. Any broken machines get fixed quickly. Love the 24hr access. Parking isn't usually an issue. The crowd are all really nice, doesn't seem to be any negativity and people share equipment and encourage others. The app shows when peak times are so that you can go when it's quieter (if you can). There are multiples of key strength equipment like bench press, squat rack and deadlift area. A range of bars to suit. Cons - Music is too loud and never really seems to vary. Free weights section could use being extended into the underused circuit training area, and circuit classes moved to the training room if it's not in use. It's a bit of a squish. Barbell weights and benches can run out at busy times.

Negative experience: It must be the smallest Puregym in the country. Extremely small and overcrowded as a result. Also, when comparing the day pass rates of this gym with the other puregyms, it’s way overpriced. Everything else is as expected

Fantastic experience: I was very nervous at first and wasn't sure if l was going to stick to it! But Jack and Ron made me feel so comfortable and relaxed. Everyone is so friendly! I love going to the Gym now and enjoying the work outs etc .

Positive experience: Somebody forgot that people need to see their posture and flex in the mirror while exercising. Gym is clean and spacious. Entry can be tricky as you have to download its app. Overall the vibe wasn't there but it might suit some clientele

Fantastic experience: Refreshing to find a budget gym where the facilities are all tip top. Update . .2 years later. This has become my second home. After 2 years it's easy to see why..there is a friendly gym community spirit here which means I now go for the workout and stay because of the people (staff and patrons). 30 years ago I remember how intimidating gyms were. But this gym really is for everyone no matter what. Great to see wheelchair users using the gym, as accessibility is a consideration, people starting their journeys through to non judgemental experienced lifters. Ive had a couple of minor grumbles over the years but the management team are always happy to listen and change what they can. Male changing rooms a bit on the cosy side, showers basic and occasionally a bit odorous probably due to such high traffic. Unfortunately there will always be patrons who dont observe gym etiquette but you will see the cleaner in action and PTs/managers actively returning dumbbells and plates to their homes when gym sinners abandon the equipment when they finished their sets and moved on.

Fantastic experience: One of the cleanest gyms I've visited, the team are always about keeping everything spotless. Good range of kit including a decent rack system, lifting platforms and well specced barbells. Also as someone else has noted, the music is quite quiet compared to other gyms, which is bonus! Only things I'd add would be higher weight kettlebells, a taller frame for better olympic ring work and a climbing rope would be nice (the building has plenty of height to utilise).

Positive experience: Brand new gymn with tonnes of equipment and floor space. However I have been three times now and the aircon has not been working or it is very ineffective as it has been very hot.

Fantastic experience: Very well equipped, well layed out. No blaring music (am I getting old?? ). Perfect for most activities.
