Negative experience: The gym has been recently refurbished and the facilities are very good…..however unfortunately there are still issues…when there are problems I am afraid the focus on resolution from the staff is poor to say the least…when kit is faulty (CYCLONE, EGYM) there is a void that complaints go in to that does not see any ownership or ongoing monitoring of issues…seems there is a fundamental lack of ownership when issues arise…continues to be disappointing….given the monthly cost you would think service o members features higher.

Negative experience: I’m currently being ignored by DL Beckenham. So I’m leaving a review to highlight my experience to others. A couple of weekend ago I made contact to cancel my membership. I received a response quite quickly stating that if I met 1 of 3 criteria I could cancel my membership straight away. I met 2 out of 3 and supplied the relevant evidence (I have moved more than 10 miles from the club and I’m currently waiting for back surgery which has stopped me using the gym). Since sending the evidence I have heard nothing back and now a direct debit has gone out and they have ignored me again to try and get it refunded. Also when I joined the membership was £140 a month. This has now jumped to £182.75 because the club has received a refurb. For £182.75 I expect replies to my emails. Very poor customer service and I do not recommend.

Negative experience: I personally enjoy using the gym and spa facilities, which have been great. However, I am currently trying to cancel my child’s membership, which was charged without any prior notice/reminder. To make matters worse, an additional month was charged even after I sent a cancellation request. Despite sending four emails, I have yet to receive any response. The children’s membership for a 3-year-old is quite impractical. There are no tennis or swimming classes suitable for my child’s level available on weekends. Furthermore, the free sports classes are extremely limited and scheduled during weekdays after 5:30 pm, which doesn’t work as my child’s bedtime is at 7 pm. These timings render the membership essentially useless for us. I would appreciate it if this matter could be addressed urgently.

Negative experience: Membership fees will increase by 12+% next year (there's been a 25% increase over the past two years). These figures are way beyond the suggested automatic price increases listed in the Terms and Conditions. They also come at the end of a 12-month period where every single part of the facilities has been shut for several months due to renovation work. The main gym, cafeteria, yoga studio, spin studio, tennis courts and pool were all shut for several months. The spa was closed for 10 months. David Lloyd clearly has no intention of creating any amount of goodwill among its members who have put up with an extraordinary amount of disruption. It also has no intention of increasing membership fees a reasonable amount ("in line with inflation") despite what the sales and management team tell you when joining and throughout your membership. We considered canceling at the start of the renovation work but were promised existing members would always have a lower price than those who joined during or after the work. Given the assurance of inflation-linked price increases, we agreed to stay and continue paying full price for a sub-par experience. The immediate increase in price as soon as the refurbishment works have finished leaves an incredibly sour taste in the mouth. I can only assume DL will continue to increase fees way beyond those they outline in their Terms & Conditions for the foreseeable future. Please be aware of this if you are considering becoming a member.

Positive experience: READ CAREFULLY. So the gym is awesome, I just want to discuss something with the members, this is absolutely unacceptable that you put the towels on the floor and change your shoes on them! We use the same towels on our head and body and how do ya’all think they wash the towels? Like everyone else in a washing machine! And that doesn’t CLEAN ALL THE DIRT FROM YOUR SHOES! This blows my mind I have been to many gyms and many clubs and this is the only place I see such a thing I would like to kindly ask the staff to put a sign somewhere in BOLD LETTERS for everyone to read: PLEASE DONT PUT THE TOWELS ON THE FLOOR AND WALK ON THEM! can’t believe this is something I even have to talk about…

Negative experience: Looks great following recent refurb but some customers getting more from experience than others. Continued noise interference in mind and body studio from spin class and weights overhead spoil the vibe and sessions. Had been told the refurb would address this but hasn't in any way. Negative experience: Some staff are lovely but they struggle to manage reception effectively. I didn’t mind that too much until I got a parking charge for using a parent and child bay when taking my children who are registered to one of the classes. Apparently I should have queued up with two young children to give my registration plate. This isn’t the case for any other parent and child bays I use, imagine doing that at a supermarket. The club could easily keep a log of registered parents and their car details. Even when we explained to the parking company contracted by David Lloyd they rejected it! Should be a warning at best if they know the bay was used in good faith. Have been using the parent and child bay for nearly a year too, and nobody ever told us directly about this unusual expectation.

Negative experience: A big miss for me. Went in for a pre-booked visit. club was very busy and overcrowded. there is a work area which was completly full of people on laptops. the pool was busy, the gym was crowded and the spa still closed after almost 8 months. i visited at off-peak times during the day. (god only known what peak after work must be like) I was told I would be contacted about memerbship options and that I wasn't allowed to find out on the day of my visit. Im still waiting...after chasing many times over email. I've since heard they make up pricing based on what they think you can afford. £250+ for some I've heard. Alot of wasted time and effort for a supposed premium club. doesnt seem worth the price. and poor customer service.

Negative experience: Extremely disappointed with David Lloyd Beckenham's lack of support for pregnant members. Yesterday, I couldn't attend my paid reformer class due to a medical emergency involving my baby. Despite emailing them about my situation, I received no response. When I followed up in person, I was met with a dismissive attitude and a flat-out no. It's disheartening to feel so unsupported during such a vulnerable time.

Negative experience: I've unfortunately had a really disappointing experience with David Lloyd, from the perspective of a prospective customer. I'd been doing research of health club options in the area and near my work over the past couple of weeks, before booking a tour here. I was under the impression from David Lloyd's website that there were tiers of membership, dependent on your requirements. However, it would appear that during my period of research before attending the tour, these have been removed with the only option remaining being their highest tier of membership, at an eye watering £249 per month. This was not communicated or presented to me, and it feels like a moving of the goalposts, after the fact. It was a very frustrating experience to spend an hour walking around, only to find the tier of membership that I was interested in no longer exists, and instead my only option is paying for facilities that I have no intention of using. I was really looking forward to joining and I've been left feeling disheartened and discouraged due to how they choose to present their information around membership, and the fact that if it was a week or two earlier then joining wouldn't have been a complete impossibility.

Negative experience: Really poor communication from the sales team and lack of knowledge from reception. I came in twice for a tour when I was told they have gone home or that they have gone on holiday. Wasn’t contacted after any of this and explained my concerns to them. Till this day I am still waiting for a phone call back. I was fully committed to buying a top membership but after this experience I will be going somewhere else.

Positive experience: Signed up last week and I have been making as much use of the facilities as I can to make my mind up about staying with DL (14 day period). Sales pitch sold me and my husband on the spot but there are a few things that I am discouraged by: The not so great: During our tour, I was informed that reformer Pilates is part of the membership (it’s an extra £10 which wasn’t mentioned) and that I could attend the taster session as many times as I want to. I attended my first reformer taster class, after which my second booking has been cancelled. This is quite misleading if you’re sold to sign up on this basis for 12m (and once the 14 days are up, you can’t leave this contract). Indoor pool on lower floor allows chlorine fumes up to the gym floor - leaves me with stinging eyes. Club seems to be packed with kids after school hours and on weekends, generally the place is very busy and I suspect it might be busier with the opening of the spa. Courts, especially Padel is booked up straight away and very hard to get hold of. The good: Clean facilities and changing rooms. Gym is huge with exciting new equipment and machines to make use of. I haven’t tried it but I like the club room that’s serving up drinks and food all day. If you want to take a swimming course it’s £60 for a 6 week course which isn’t bad at all. Look forward to seeing the spa, after which I will decide whether I stay or leave as a member.

Negative experience: If you want 5* facilities and 0 customer service then this is the club for you. The fantastic facilities are simply overshadowed by incompetent, rude and simply lazy staff. Staff appear to be getting younger and younger which wouldn't be a problem if it didn't come with the teenage laziness and attitude. The staff boasting of their reduced and sometimes free access to the club in return for only having to work "shifts here and there" just shows how little they care about members and the high fees they pay. Staff, especially behind the bar, often chat amongst themselves whilst customers are waiting to be served, lurk behind the kitchen area to avoid service and couldn't look more miserable to be there if they tried. It is such a shame that the amazing look of the club is let down by poor training and a lack of guidance/development from management.

Positive experience: David Lloyd Beckenham offers a decent array of facilities and services, but unfortunately, it falls short in several areas that prevent it from being a top-tier health club. My experience at the club, while generally positive, has been marred by several issues that justify my 3-star rating. While the facilities themselves are impressive on paper, the cleanliness and maintenance of the club leave something to be desired. During peak times, the gym and changing rooms can become quite crowded, and the cleaning staff seem to struggle to keep up. I've often encountered equipment that hasn't been wiped down, and the locker rooms can sometimes feel less than hygienic. The swimming pool area, while generally clean, could benefit from more regular checks, especially during busy periods. Moreover, some of the equipment in the gym shows signs of wear and tear, and there have been occasions where certain machines were out of order for extended periods. For a club that positions itself as premium, this lack of timely maintenance is disappointing. The staff at David Lloyd Beckenham are a mixed bag. On one hand, many of the personal trainers and group class instructors are excellent—friendly, knowledgeable, and genuinely interested in helping members achieve their fitness goals. However, the front desk staff and management could benefit from improved customer service training. There have been several instances where my interactions with the front desk have been less than satisfactory. Whether it's a lack of enthusiasm or a general sense of being too busy to help, these interactions can leave a sour taste. Communication from the management is another area that could use improvement. For example, changes to class schedules or facility maintenance are not always communicated clearly or in a timely manner. This lack of transparency can lead to frustration, especially if you've planned your visit around a specific class or activity. David Lloyd Beckenham is not a cheap club to join. The membership fees are quite high, and while the range of facilities might justify the cost on paper, the issues with cleanliness, maintenance, and customer service make it hard to feel like you're getting good value for money. There are other gyms in the area that offer similar facilities at a lower price point, and while they might not have all the bells and whistles of David Lloyd, they often deliver a more consistent experience. The atmosphere at David Lloyd Beckenham is generally pleasant. The club has a good mix of members of different ages and fitness levels, and there’s a sense of community among regulars. However, the club can get very busy during peak times, which can detract from the overall experience. It’s not uncommon to have to wait for equipment or find yourself in a crowded class. For a club that charges a premium, the overcrowding can be a significant downside. In conclusion, while David Lloyd Beckenham offers a wide range of facilities and some excellent fitness classes, it falls short in several key areas. Negative experience: Very arrogant and unfriendly place, back in 2022, they had no guest policy for hot summer day, and would not let my miss to wait inside while I took my kid to do indoor swimming. Even though they are completely empty indoor. The manager simply tell off my miss to wait in the car, that was the most insulting customer service I’ve ever received. We cancelled our membership immediately and never come back again.

Positive experience: I have joined the club along with my wife after some ten years being absent from this club. I know they are going through renovations and this is unfortunate time therefore to rate this club. However, even in this poor state I am impressed with some aspects of this club. I have liked the cleanliness and efforts made by the cleaning team who have always a smile on their faces and greet you warmly. I do like the personal training and was not overly impressed with the trainer who I had chosen and will probably go back to “ Eddie” who remembered me from when I use to train with him and still is interested in helping to ensure that posture is maintained and that the machinery is used correctly. Once I establish my fitness level I will be back with personal training. I am disappointed that there’s not more lessons during the evening ie the cycling, body pump etc as for the virtual session I find them next to useless I have also used the Purley way gym but without access to the spa I was a little disappointed (Platinum membership) I do look forward to when the club at Beckenham is complete as I am sure it will be a fantastic venue.

Positive experience: Ok so my gym is going through a big transition and I’m excited to see the final outcome when completed. The new gym has just been done up and installed, there is clearly new equipment in some instances and the new coat of paint has a a really lovely colour. However, the mirrors in the gym were not cleaned properly. Which is annoying, because you want everything to look and feel as expensive as they say this transformation is going to be and matches the membership rate you’re paying to go there and use all the facilities. I just hope once everywhere has been revamped and is fully functional the standard shall pick up again, otherwise everything they are doing right now is pointless.

Negative experience: Putting the free weights above the new mind and body studio was a great idea…. How are you meant to do yoga meditation when it sounds like there is an earthquake every few seconds. You can’t focus or relax.

Negative experience: Absolute shambles! We canceled the family membership due to the ongoing refurbishment. David Lloyds won't let you freeze the membership and they insist on their 3 month termination clause despite not offering the service (tiny makeshift gym on a tennis court, closed indoor pool, no spa) but still charging nearly 400gbp/month for a family of 3. Now, despite receiving an email confirming the cancellation effective 1. July, David Lloyds tried to collect a direct debit and starts sending payment reminders. Multiple emails to the Beckenham club to rectify are unanswered! Needless to say this is illegal and we will fight these incompetent clowns in small claim court if need be. Stay way clear of these borderline fraudulent T&C, the club is way overcrowded and generally bad value for money anyway.

Negative experience: It's been over a month that I'm chasing a query- customer service have failed to resolve it and are incompetent. Simply do not care about customer satisfaction and I will be cancelling my membership as soon as possible. Complete waste of money with the refurbishment happening as soon as I joined. They have also permanently closed the badminton courts which heavily influenced my decision to join. Now they are simply ignoring my emails and not responding. I will be escalating to head office and will take legal action as I am being over charged for membership. Absolutely disgusting customer service. Would never recommend to anyone.

Negative experience: I pay £174 to use the platinum membership. The gym has been under refurbishment for a few months now with no spa and a temporary gym area which lacks most of the equipment. Near by gym is in Kidbrook which I can’t use with my membership but they had the audacity to keep charging me full price. So I’ve been paying full price for closed down facilities with no temporary solution. Contacted the gym and they said they would have frozen my membership only at my request. Daylight robbery. Why would you charge full price for months if you don’t have facilities you pay for. They should have charged less or arranged members to use a nearby gym. Which they didn’t agree to facilitate when I called them. Been a member for 6 years. Shameful and plain cussed. Lots of comments about how members are badly treated. We should get together and take action. They’ve been charging all their platinum members for a spa that’s been closed down for 6 months. How is that not a crime?

Negative experience: There is no access to the pool, spa and the gym is barely functional. It costs £184 for basically being at a pure gym. They have won’t allow any edits to membership to make up for the lack of services. The nearest gym Purley doesn’t allow use of the spa facilities, the whole reason I joined David Lloyd. The membership team lied about the length of refurbishment when I joined too. I wouldn’t recommend DL as it stands. A complete waste of money. They don’t take any complaints into consideration, just a money grab for a poor service.

Negative experience: Likewise, really unhappy with the fact paying £150 per month to use a make shift gym, containg hardly any machines and all old. I had to request fans to be put in place as it was without any air con, a basic requirement for any gym. Surely, there should be a loyalty discount for the inadequate facilities? Feel ripped off and it's unacceptable to expect members to have to pay full price for this, although am sure your response will be that my inconvenience will be ' worth the wait'

Negative experience: Queues to use gym machines (many of which have been removed during the gym refurb), closed sauna and closed indoor pool. No windows or mirrors in the makeshift gym - just curtains and feel like an exam hall. Bikes frequently get stolen (latest theft occurred on morning of 3 June whilst staff looked at bike getting stolen and did nothing to prevent the theft from taking place). Impossible to sign up to classes which are always fully-booked. The only thing that remains consistent is the expensive membership price (£150/month). A true pity as this David lLoyd used to be really good, but it has gone completely downhill since the start of 2024. Avoid this David Lloyd unless you are happy to pay £150 for very little.

Fantastic experience: David Lloyd is a fantastic club. I see my membership as an investment in my health. The club is having extensive work to up grade the business hub, the swimming pool & sauna plus a new reformer pilates studio. I've made some great friendships and really enjoy Tai Chi, which is much harder than it looks.

Negative experience: They have closed the spa for 6 months and now also moved all of the gym equipment into an indoor tennis court room temporarily. It's an absolute joke. They refuse to reduce the membership fee during this time. Members are allowed to access the Purley gym but not allowed to use the spa. How are they getting away with this? The monthly fee is £200 and this is how the members are being treated. Awful.

Negative experience: Would give 0 stars if I could. You pay £150 a month for a makeshift gym on a tennis court and have to queue to use the machines due to reduced number of machines available during the renovation. No access to indoor pool and sauna which are also undergoing 6 month renovation. Any other gym is a better option. Unable to carry out PT exercises as a number of machines have been removed.

Negative experience: Recently raised prices only to then close the spa and now the pool for refurbishments for months. No warning about the pool closure and it appeared as open in the app at first too. No compensation for the closures. You can go to other places but they’re busier than usual now with the increased traffic. £40 charge for a membership for a newly turned 3 year old as well while actually nothing new is available to her - all the 3 yo friendly activities are fully booked and there’s not much to begin with. Rampant problem with people without kids using the parent spaces. Mostly entitled sports car owners unfortunately. It’s hardly ever enforced and parking options are limited - I’ve seen people queue to the car park up until the refurbishments started.

Positive experience: I have to say whilst I found the community and the atmosphere of this DL very appealing, for me, the facilities did not stack up. When it comes to paying nearly £200 per month + £130 joining fee + paying for the occasional group tennis lesson, you would expect the place to have a spa and more availability in popular tennis classes/club sessions. I am sure this place will be incredible when the new spa and courts comes along but I heard the price is going up by over £50 per month when it does.

Negative experience: Worst gym experience in UK. I only applied for 3 months membership. And They give me 12 months for no reason. And i moved back to China and I provided all the documents that prove I'm moving back to china and they said going to remove all outstanding fees and then they took my money from my bank account.

Negative experience: Got a family membership (platinum) with 1 kids (5 yrs). All the kids class are overbooked and the only activities included in the membership it’s the swim pool and the small soft play which doesn’t allow you to go to other classes or having time for the gym when you are with your little one. Hence this club is not really kids friendly or for a family with young children. Often the DL Kidz offer a poor service when children are left watching movies rather than engaging them in activities. The drama class for kids is actually good, but always fully booked. In short, for the price there should be more class availability, more engagement for kids and allow families to enjoy the club properly.

Positive experience: Pros: If your current gym is one of those over subscribed cheap places like PureGym or The Gym, you will be blown away. The facilities and atmosphere are GREAT along with the staff and even other members. No one is going to be asking How many sets you got or I'm using that, that and that. EVERYTHING is on another level from weight machines down to the exceptional quality of the napkin they put your cutlery in. You could easily spend the whole day there because you can train, then into the sauna, have a post workout meal in the restaurant which caters for adults and children with a children's dining room. The changing rooms have small wardrobes for lockers and the showers are powerful and constant but oddly you can't lock your cubicle. Then sit down with your laptop in one of the relaxing areas with free fast WiFi to do some work and yes you can plug your laptop and phone in to charge.Two table tennis tables and many many tennis courts with different surfaces. Indoor and outdoor swimming pool. Plenty of parking which will be increased. Cons: Food is on the expensive side and some portions are small. And the tables are all good but they're not always clean. The price of membership will question are you paying rent or subscription. You definitely get what you pay for Highly recommended.

Negative experience: They have closed the spa for about 6 months - in the meantime they will not reduce membership (offering me the ability to drive half hour to the closest alternative gym in place of this.) When wishing to cancel, even though its because they have removed the spa entirely, they are holding me to a 3 month notice period. Bit dodgy for a "premium" gym that is now just a very expensive normal gym without the spa. Be careful of them removing what you signed up for and then holding you by way of contract when really it is them who breached it in the first place by removing the services. This would not have been a negative experience if they simply reduced the fee to reflect the lack of services for the period they are unable to provide them - or - when wishing to cancel as i cannot use the spa now over the summer period they actually let me cancel!

Negative experience: Despite being a longstanding member, I have encountered numerous issues that reflect poorly on the gym's management and customer service. I have been denied entry for myself and my son (as a guest), for 3 times! Despite my efforts to comply with their rules, I have been met with rigidity and indifference, which is unacceptable considering my loyalty for years to this gym. Furthermore, the lack of communication regarding certain rules. It appears that the gym's policies are arbitrary and inconsistently enforced, leading to confusion and unnecessary inconvenience for loyal members like me. Additionally, I have yet to see any tangible improvements or upgrades despite paying for them £200.00ish my membership fees with no warning. The customer service is nowhere, as evidenced by the dismissive and uncaring attitude displayed by the gym. I would caution anyone considering a membership to think twice before committing to this establishment, as their lack of flexibility, communication and disregard for customer satisfaction make it an unwise investment. It's evident that even with higher costs, there's no guarantee of receiving the best service.

Positive experience: Clean, well equipped gym. Very, very busy which often means you have to wait to make use of some of the equipment. I haven’t found a quiet time yet but frankly, most gyms are busy. Some maintenance is required (cracked mirrors taped over, shower area is dark and sometimes certain cubicles have no hot water). Restaurant is average. Aimed at families primarily. It is difficult to get into the classes so I don’t do those anymore but when I did I really enjoyed them. It’s due a refurb and expansion so hopefully some of these issues will be addressed soon. They no longer have the Amida Spa or the hairdressers.

Negative experience: If I could give this gym 0 stars I absolutely would. Not only is it overpriced and over subscribed, the wall paint is chipped, there is hair and small bugs in the showers, the gym floor is nearly always rammed, the steam room is packed full of people, you can’t get a class booking and there are never parking spaces - to list just a few of the problems. These are things that I tolerated for ease and convenience of location proximity but the straw that broke the camels back was in November when I was a member (along with my child) for over a year and a member of reception racially profiled me and fiancé in the lobby making a huge scene accusing us of breaking in to use the gym? Honestly, I’ve never been so embarrassed and shocked - to make things worse the assistant manager chimed in making up a rule and when I asked to see it in the terms he realised he was wrong and started apologising. This was in front of my 6 year old who was very upset afterwards and even though they tried to give me a month free I knew I was done with this gym. Sorry for the long review but I have to keep it real; I wouldn’t recommend it at all. It’s 2024 big companies like this have to have some kind of awareness when dealing with paying members. It’s left a very bad taste and won’t be returning to any DL again.
Fantastic experience: Today I had the privellage of joining with James at the Beckenham club , he was very informative and really helped me build confidence in myself and my fitness journey after I suffered from a stroke.
