Hollins Hall Hotel, Golf & Country Club: Opinions
Positive experience: Ate in the hotel for the first night, and had the steak which was low quality and over priced. The service was pretty average with one lady annoyed we asked to move two tables together. Breakfast was awful. The eggs and coffee were inedible.
Positive experience: Lovely food and friendly, attentive staff
Fantastic experience: This hotel really saved me after my flight (the last flight) got cancelled. The service is outstanding and very friendly.
Fantastic experience: Only stayed the one night , food was great staff very friendly and helpful
Fantastic experience: Fabulous place. We really loved the whole experience . Breakfast was nice. Restaurant had halal options as well. Spa was really well equipped, swimming and gym options. An extremely vast open area for walk and running. 100/10
Fantastic experience: Excellent hotel, will definitely go back, staff were very friendly and helpful.
Fantastic experience: Great location to stay when attending wedding at the Barn, Esholt.
Negative experience: They somehow forgot the booking and breafast too. Breakfast is expensive and quality of it is poor. The breakfast was better at a buffet next to the Post office (on 1/3rd price. You can't pay by cash and this info is given at arrival
Fantastic experience: Me and my friend came for a spa day for our birthday and it was luxuriouswe had the best few hours and look forward to returning in be future. The spa facilities are so relaxing the whole venue is stunning! And the staff were lovely and helpful
Fantastic experience: Lovely place and lovely staff, swimming pool could do with updating a bit
Positive experience: Not good. I stayed for the weekend and Friday evening the hot water in the bath did not work so I was moved to another room but could not have a bath so I had a shower. It took about three hours before I finally had a shower. The room was cold, so I had portable heating delivered to my room. They did not refill toilet rolls. The bed was nice and comfortable, though.
Fantastic experience: Lovely spa day with hubby. Highly recommend the full body massage. Great facilities. Clean changing rooms. We enjoyed an afternoon tea which was delicious and very filling. Couldn’t finish everything but got to take the rest home.
Positive experience: Comfortable rooms. Nice gardens. Friendly staff. Good facilities.
Fantastic experience: Spent a few hours here for a spa break. Treatments were fab, staff were really helpful and friendly and the food was delicious! Lovely views around the grounds, and the spa facilities were great.
Fantastic experience: Sisters' wedding was here, a fantastic place, and bar staff were sound and could have a laugh
Positive experience: Decent value for money, rooms ok, gym very good.
Fantastic experience: £15 for 18 holes of quality golf midweek, if anyone knows of golf at better value for money I'd be amazed
Fantastic experience: Great place, lovely building and did a wonderful job of my friends wedding.
Positive experience: My best friend got married hear we stayed the night before the wedding the room was beautiful but dirty the carpet had lots a bits looked like it had been hoovered for a good while the dust on the skirting boards was very thick the shower had conditioner all over when I got in the shower the water wasn't going down the plug so I pulled it out and there was a massive hair ball I had to remove the shower then drained no problem we had booked the bridal sweet as there was the bride and bridesmaid to sleep ans get ready the next morning thay hand given us any bedding for the pull out beds we had to go request it the day of the wedding the staff was amazing there was a lovely gentleman who was telling everyone where to be and introduced the newly weds he went above and beyond nothing was too much I disnt catch his name bit he was amazing me and my family had taken the bridal sweet for the night of the wedding my son is autistic and we went to take him to bed to fined no bedding again so we asked at reception to be told house keeping had left and there was nothing thay could do so I asked for management who then apologised and got us some bedding and even made up the beds for us some staff are brilliant some not so the hotel is beautiful but needs a good clean the grounds are stunning as well at night it was very loud so maby take some ear plugs there wasn't many plugs so was hard getting all the hair and make up done but we managed maby take an extension if you are getting married ans getting your make up and hair done makes it a bit easier breakfast was lovely plenty of choice all fresh
Positive experience: The servers were nice enough, but the hotel is a little run down and could do with a renovation, dirty carpet, walls and runs that could have done with some paint 250 quid for 2 days disappointing would have expected better from a Hilton , the only saving grace was the really nice bar staff. Just to add the rooms had no air conditioning, got very warm indeed, with windows that only opened 3 inches, they did supply a fan but did not help, this was probably a really nice hotel 5-10 years ago, but time and lack of investment seems to have taken its toll
Fantastic experience: Great couple of days. 2 rounds of golf. Excellent room. Super comfy double bed. Excellent food, drink and service. Will defo come back again ⛳
Fantastic experience: Used for a business away day and couldn't fault the facilities, staff or food. First class venue
Positive experience: Lovely hotel, really nice rooms and great facilities.
Positive experience: Rooms were nice and clean. Didn't have a/c but had a fan that made an awful noise when switched on. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Bit disappointed with the food in the restaurant. Starters were really nice, but the mains were a let down.
Negative experience: It’s a very old hotel and needs updating badly. As a coloured person I felt abit uncomfortable and got weird looks from guests who are majority white. Also i felt the receptionist weren’t as catering to us than other people. Overall the pool was nice and jacuzzi.
Fantastic experience: Superb setting fantastic facilities and great food. Loved it.The staff were excellent.
Fantastic experience: Stayed here for a wedding, the rooms are of a high standard and were very quiet. The bar at the golf club was open which we used in the afternoon. The breakfast is quite expensive but overall a really nice hotel with lots of parking and easy access from the main road
Positive experience: Very beautiful golf and spa hotel. I was there for just the day. Was not really wowed by the customer service. A lot of the staff were nice but more needs to be done for customer experience
Positive experience: Great golf venue, course is great but get a buggy if you are on the older side. Negative, they closed the bar at 22.30 with a group of 40 of us in the bar!
Fantastic experience: Room was clean and well appointed nice big tv, very comfy bed but the duvet was a bit heavy and warm for me. The grounds were lovely, lots of space, gardens and terrace with seating.
Fantastic experience: Lovely place to stay bathrooms a bit dated but did the job, shower was great, beds super comfortable and the family room was an amazing size! Great gym and spa too!
Positive experience: Room was ok and bathroom refurbished. Location good for the Dales and surrounding villages and towns. Breakfast was poor - more like a Premier Inn. Gym facilities were good
Fantastic experience: Fabulous night at the hotel and what made it was the staff. Very warm and welcoming, the hotel was extremely well maintained and food was fantastic. We travel a lot, so use hotels regularly and it was definitely up there in the ratings !
Fantastic experience: A really nice stay, food was to die for. I would love to come back here!! Downside was that the pool wasn't warm enough
Fantastic experience: Had a fantastic 2 night break, using the fabulous facilities, pool, sauna and steam room... Food here was beautiful Breakfast was delicious which was self service but had everything and more The staff were lovely, very polite and attentive Definitely staying here again
Fantastic experience: A lovely hotel and spa. Our room was comfortable and a good sized standard double room. The 3 course evening meal was divine and well presented. Breakfast was self service buffet with a good selection of traditional egg sausage and bacon. Staff were friendly and helpful. Will definitely be returning again.
Negative experience: Very disappointed. A stay for 1 night which was enough. All you can hear are room doors slamming, kids running up and down the corridor. We had booked into the restaurant, we arrived to be ushered into an overspill function room which was freezing. I asked for the heating to be turned on, 4 ladies sitting with their coats on, I complained and was moved to the TV bar area, not the best but it was warmer. The food was basic frozen fish and chips cooked to order. The dessert was better. Breakfast was basic no thought just buffet style and didn't think the choice was very good. Will not be returning and will not recommend either
Positive experience: Nice room and bathroom, both clean. pillows not so good though, way to small for a 5ft bed and not supportive, may have to think about travelling with our own. We were on the ground floor, could here everything from the room above. For pub based food, restaurant is bloody expensive. Staff excellent, couldn't be more helpful. Back in the area again soon and would stay again, but might try 4th floor.
Fantastic experience: One of the best Christmas lunches. Lovely setting. Perfection. Even the mince pies were warm. We would definitely be back to dine/lunch again at Hollins Hall independently or as a party.
Fantastic experience: Pool loverly and warm closes at 9.30 beds really comfy if you need more pillows there in the drawers food tasty be careful cause you get loads
Fantastic experience: Such a cute setting and the staff were so helpful and accommodating. I went just to set up a cake but would love to go back and spend some time there.
Fantastic experience: A delightful holiday for the whole family This hotel is simply stunning in its beauty and coziness. The swimming pool is quite spacious, there is an excellent jacuzzi and two types of sauna for guests free of charge. The pool is open from 8.00 am to 9.00 pm. The golf course has 18 holes. The rooms are very comfortable and there is an excellent assortment of tea, coffee and bathroom amenities. In the changing room of the pool there is a centrifuge for drying a swimsuit and hairdryers.
Fantastic experience: We host our monthly team meetings from one of the conference rooms. It is well equipped, spacious and the staff are amazing. Highly recommend Hollins Hall Hotel for your next event
Fantastic experience: Great team at the Hollins. The bar staff are brilliant! Pizzas are super tasty and the cheese board is perfect to sneak back to your room for a snack later on! Thanks for the great service.
Positive experience: Staff are welcoming. We booked a standard room with a queen sized bed but when we got to our room we had a family room with 2 double beds. Not really an issue so we didn't say anything. The bar is expensive but has a nice friendly atmosphere. Will definitely stay again!
Positive experience: The service lets down Hollins Hall Hotel as usual. The rooms are a good size and beds very comfortable. But there was a live woodworm crawling around bathroom floor upon arrival which was still there after housekeeping had been in the following morning. No foot towel for the floor when getting out of shower. One of the bath sheets was badly marked with several black streaks. I did not bother with adding breakfast to my bill as it is grossly overpriced - brought my own croissants. Did not bother eating in the evening as service was very slow last time and food not up to par. Went to another hotel across the moor. The parking is good and location for family living in area and that's about it.
Fantastic experience: Lovely hotel. Stayed one night for business so didn't get to use the facilities. However what we saw, for the price, would want to come back to try everything out
Negative experience: Not great at all. We booked the ‘Room, diner and breakfast’ package and then upgraded our room to a suite… we were celebrating. We arrived to our room at approximately 5pm (check in time is 4pm). The check in was pleasant. We got to our room to find all the windows opened and a very cold room so naturally we tried to put the heating on… Apparently, reception tells us, it comes on at 7pm automatically so were informed that we would be given a heater until then. I asked two as the suite was quite large. I tried to make a cup of coffee in the nice coffee machine… not working so instant coffee it is. We went off for a swim and upon our return, there was 1 radiator (not 2) left for us and they didn’t have the sense to plug it in and warm the room, so we got dressed for our evening meal in the cold. The restaurant was average… steak very chewy and the wife’s chicken was tough but the worst thing about the restaurant was the flies… Good God, surly we aren’t the only ones to notice this? For those of you who like steak, this will cost you an extra £5 on top of the meal you’ve already paid for. We went for dinner and came back around 9:30pm and the heating still wasn’t on but to be fair, the one heater they provided had the room at a good temperature. I feel that they knew the room didn’t have heating and that the radiator would suffice. Breakfast the next day was difficult to find a clean table (we went at 09:50 and breakfast was due to finish at 10:30). The breakfast was of a Travelodge standard (sorry Travelodge I mean absolutely no offence) but the FLIES!!! Same issues despite breakfast and dinner being on different floors in different parts of the hotel. Most of the cutlery need a wipe of the dishwasher water that remained, mopped up. Very disappointing.
Fantastic experience: Staff are exceptional. Helpful and courteous at all times. Food once again was top class. Generous portions, hot and well prepared. choce too is extremely good. Went the extra mile to accommodate my celiacs disease. I would return in a heartbeat.
Positive experience: Not sure what to expect when we booked the hotel as we last stayed when it was a Marriott and it was really good. Upon arrival little has changed and this is a great hotel. Good rooms (although looking a little tired in places) in a good location, with some brilliant staff. Good food and drink and well maintained grounds. Definitely staying again.
Fantastic experience: Absolutely lovely place, went for a spa day with my friend and we both loved it. The staff were lovely and the facilities are kept clean, the only issue is the smell in the steam room. It's a very strong smell, which is quite like a dirty fishtank. It would be massively improved if they could make this a menthol steam room to avoid any unappealing odours but other than that it was lovely
Positive experience: Visited here to attend the evening wedding reception of a work colleague. Lovely venue in a beautiful setting. Unfortunately we didn't stay too long as we had to travel a distance so am unable to comment on much but did feel that the bar prices were a little excessive
Positive experience: Nice place overall. I haven't tried the leisure centre, but my room was big and with a decent size bed. However the room wasn't perfectly clean and I saw a couple of hairs from the previous guests in the bathroom, so I wasn't pleased to see that. The bar is quite nice but they get advantage of the isolated location and the food is well overpriced - ceaser salad - £13.50, which doesn't include chicken, if you want that - another £5.50...
Fantastic experience: Great location with good parking. The facilities are very good. Comfortable beds but can be noisy, but that’s more to do with the guests than the hotel…Restaurant was nice, with friendly staff, but the menu can be a bit basic. Overall a great experience and would stay again.
Positive experience: Hotel was nice & really spacious. Rooms are good with all stuff working as it should be especially after repeatedly disgusting rooms in Leeds, this was a nice experience. Food in Grill on the hill restaurant was...well Hungry horse quality. Service in restaurant was......... Breakfast food & service was nice. Didnt use any other facility since i was on work tour. Over all nice place for stay but go out to eat !
Fantastic experience: Many years since I last visited Hollins Hall, and it was a pleasure to return with friends for two days of golf. The hotel stands in a picturesque setting. The golf course was in good condition with very tricky greens. Well worth a visit and competively priced.
Fantastic experience: This hotel is a lovely welcoming place with so many facilities e.g gym, spa, swimming pool, golf course to name a few. I have booked this place twice now and the rooms are so spacious with tea coffee facilities fans for when it's hot, trouser press along with iron and ironing board and toiletries. There is a big car park and the veiws are amazing.
Positive experience: Dated Hotel. Pleasant bar area with pub food menu for spa day. Spa its self is very basic, sauna and steam room. Swimming pool with 4 sun lounges. Pool area is in need of renovation. Not a relaxing spa experience if you want to lounge around and relax reading a book, its more of a swim and sauna experience. There is no relaxation room.
Fantastic experience: Had our wedding here, was an amazing day and night. Nothing was too much for Tanya and her staff. Food was top quality and the rooms are very good standard.
Negative experience: Stayed here for a wedding so paid a discounted rate and it's a good job. The wedding itself was very nice and well organised, but I would not recommend staying here if you don't have to. The building and surroundings are nice but the room was dirty and it was impossible to find clean crockery at breakfast. Even the plates at the wedding breakfast were dirty. If I'd paid the normal room rate I would have been livid.
Positive experience: Easy to find traffic lights for turning and sign posted. Car park is sloped so is a bit cumbersome for suitcases on wheels, old people and wheelchairs. Beautiful building and entrance, turn right and grab a beer before check-in. The staff are happy and helpful, check-in is easy. Lifts to rooms clean and bright. Room has double beds again decoration is dated or olde worlde. Good TV, lighting and window opening. Feels warm not noisy. Bathroom again has pesky shower curtain and bath. Bed is a bed enough pillows for me but some say you need two types. Only issue is plug socket for mobile phones and tablets are not near some beds. Restaurant is great awesome seating good views. Chairs and tables are for smaller slimmer people. Good choice of drinks. Food selection is ok. Portion size is good check photos.again staff friendly and helpful. Didn't get to use swimming pool or gym as I didn't wake up in time.
Negative experience: Stayed here a couple of times, first better than the last, and last it will be. Kept waiting at check in as the rude uunwelcoming member of staff said we hadn't paid and took fifteen minutes to find our booking which she finally admitted we had paid, despite my husband showing her the payment on his phone. No apology. Room ok. Went gor dinner to be told that they were full, staff just said if we are full we are full. Dining area full of loud drunk golfers couldn't hear your self, ordered drinks, ten minutes later told me they didn't have a rose wine. Looked at the menu for later, very basic and not much choice, and over priced for what it was. We went else where for dinner. Went back to the room tried to put tv on the remote didn't work, phoned reception five times and no answer, gave up and read. Never felt so unwelcome with rude unfriendly staff, if we had stayed more than one night i would have asked for a refund. Will not go again.
Fantastic experience: Hotel outdoor signage could do with being cleaned. Breakfast would be hotter and better if replenished more often with smaller amounts rather than overflowing dishes, but we'll laid out and a good choice, staff very attentive.
Fantastic experience: Got a good last minute deal here. Tooms clean and tidy with tea and coffee in room plus a couple of biscuits too... Bed wasn't very comfy... heard a growly noise during the night ten realised it was my wife snoring . Overall a decent place to stay
Positive experience: Had a good stay here apart from the bathroom which was not disabled friendly when i booked i asked for a wet room It would have been alot better if it had no doors on at all because you could only get wheelchair in so far take the doors off. Put a shower rail up Side of bed tightfit for wheelchair We had great time here just the same great views great service
Positive experience: Lovely hotel. Used spa facilities and had a meal and drinks in restaurant. Had great breakfast and used gym in morning. Visited Saltaire just nearby which is beautiful. Good overnight stay.
Positive experience: Lovely setting and location. Gym facilities are great with a decent pool, gym, studio and large fitness room. Some parts of the hotel are a little tired. Rooms are classic Marriott design although no decent duvets or pillows unfortunately.
Positive experience: Stayed on the one night package, which included the use of swimming pool, sauna, steam room, and jacuzzi and a 3 course evening dinner and breakfast. Set in an idyllic location. The room had a table and 2 chairs next to the bed so you couldn't actually get in bed on one side unless you manoeuvred furniture. They also only give you 1 pillow, and the mattress was very uncomfortable. The spa area was lovely and kept clean. The evening meal was just lovely. Presented well and tasted delicious. The red wine was served to us cold though! This was served in the only restaurant they have, which is Grill on the Hill. which is also the bar. Not a dressy up restaurant.quite disappointing for a country club. Breakfast was not great. No vegetarian alternative on the hot buffet. Limited choices. Plates, cups, and cutlery were dirty. Had to sift through to find clean items.
Positive experience: Had a great stay there.. fantastic food and loved the steam room and pool... others have mentioned about the beds only having 2 pillows ..1 each..not really enough .. otherwise recommended.
Positive experience: OLD and COLD I've stopped in over a hundred hotels in my life and I have always looked at the blankets in the cupboard with confusion. BUT that was all to change with my stay at the Hollins Hall Hotel. I arrived in the room to find it not much warmer than the outside temperature and so immediately put the radiator in the bedroom and bathroom on full. I went out for the evening and came back to find the room not much warmer than before - the radiator gave out as much heat as a couple of candles and the bathroom radiator did not work (or was shut off). HANG ON there is a cost of living crisis - yes I know but it doesn't mean that when I pay 100 quid for room only that your hotel can reduce its cost at my expense. Sadly the breakfast turned out to be as hysterical as Fawlty Towers when at 9am they had NO bread and all customers (that could) had to wait until 10am when the nearby Morrisons opened and they could get more. Despite the tragic standard of the hotel the staff were friendly and helpful throughout. Looks to me like either it is going bankrupt or desperately needs a change of management.
Negative experience: Very dissapointed. I sent the following email on the 1st January and telephoned on 8th January, and to date (almost 6 weeks later) I have still not had a response or even acknowledgement from the General Manager. Dear Mr Limousin, Myself, wife and daughter stayed at Hollins Hall Hotel on the 31 December 2022. We were dismayed by the lack of service available during our stay. When we booked in, we were advised that the buffet meal was available from 18:00 Hours. However, after checking in, and just getting into our room, I received a phone call, advising that the buffet was not starting until 19:00 Hours. When we went down for the buffet at 19:00 Hours, we were advised that there was a 10 minute delay whilst the chefs prepared the vegetables for the buffet. At approximately 19:10 Hours we managed to access the buffet, only to find out that the chefs had forgot to put out the potatoes. Both my wife and I asked if there were any potatoes to go with the meal, at which point the chef went into the kitchen to bring out some roast potatoes whilst my wife and I stood around waiting for a few minutes, therefore adding a further delay. We were advised that there was a shortage of staff, and only 3 chefs had been on, catering both the buffet, Grill on the Hill bar, and the wedding that was taking place. This therefore had an impact on other paying guests including ourselves. The only other choice on the buffet was seafood, which was not suitable for our daughter. I feel that the meal provided was not adequate, and that this had not been made known at the time of booking the hotel for the evening. Had we known this, we would have bought our daughter a meal from the Grill on the Hill bar. Due to the aforementioned delay by an hour for the buffet, we purchased snacks from the Grill on the Hill bar, and it was only after we finished these, that we found the Scampi Fries to be out of date. Please see attached picture. We were not made aware that these had past the best before date. Also, it took about five minutes before someone came to the bar to serve me these out of date products. Lastly, I found the overall service and the cleanliness of some ares of the hotel poor, for the price we paid for a family room of £312.50. We stayed at this hotel on the 31st December 2021 and paid £185 for a Superior Double Room and found the meal and service outstanding, that is why we chose to stay at the hotel again on the 31st December 2022. However I don’t think I will be booking this hotel again for the 31 December 2023. I look forward to your reply.
Fantastic experience: We were made to feel welcome from the moment we arrived by friendly reception staff. The breakfast team, the spa and leisure team, and the restaurant staff were all similarly kind and helpful. The cleaning staff were lovely too. For me the staff of a hotel has the biggest impact on my stay so I want to emphasise how professional the team at Hollins Hall Hotel are. I left my keys in the room and one of the staff, Emily, promptly had them sent to to my home address. Disaster averted! My partner and I stayed for three nights and we spent most of that time in the hotel, we really wanted a quiet, relaxing break and Hollis Hall certainly delivered. The rooms are quiet and comfortable. The breakfast is great and the leisure facilities are exactly what we wanted. You can have a proper workout in the gym, the pool is a decent size and the spa facilities are well maintained and pleasant. The décor is cosy but it isn't perfect. It's a huge building and it's (rightly) well used so there is the odd carpet that could be replaced. It's to be expected at the reasonable nightly rate. The communal space just for sitting and relaxing is lovely, good view of the birds too! Overall I would highly recommend staying and I intend to visit again.
Negative experience: The hotel room is fine although the bar and restaurant is quite pricey (not unusually so for a hotel). My issue is the poor level of service and the fact that rooms aren’t cleaned/serviced *unless* you ask for them to be. Nothing mentioned about this at check in or when booking, and with a large group of three families staying for a weekend away, we all came back to the same problem. Very poor, and an indifferent attitude from reception which compounded the problem.
Positive experience: Hotel rooms interior needs a bit of TLC also the cleanliness in the room wasn’t 4 star hotel value, stains everywhere. Would stay again only if no other options around. Bar/restaurant service was lovely and breakfast was lovely too!
Fantastic experience: Beautiful location, beautiful grounds. Spa is lovely, not too busy, pool is perfect. Rooms are very clean, well looked after. Staff lovely. After spa afternoon ate in leisure centre bar/restaurant outside overlooking beautiful landscaped gardens. Food was really lovely - done good options for vegan/veggie, service amazing, staff so lovely. Perfect afternoon, highly recommended.
Fantastic experience: Went to a funeral here. The room was excellent. The food was spot on and bar was open and they supplied coffee's and Teas. The place itself is well looked after. Would highly recommend for weddings parties or wakes
Negative experience: Booked here for a relaxing spa experience but didn't get that impression at all! The room was ok, was kept up most of the night with alot of noise, guest what sounded like they were arguing and a lot of door banging, the swimming pool area had swimming lessons on but no information was given nor was o made aware, felt quite uncomfortable to use the spa facilities were a load of parents and young kids stood/sitting around and clearly it wasn't quiet either, however the restaurant and bar was nice and the food was good! But I don't think I'll be visiting again though.
Fantastic experience: The accommodation is lovely and the food is good. We had an issue with noisey neighbours having a party at 2.40am and the staff were so quick to ask them to be quiet etc. We also had to leave 2 days early due to illness, they were so understanding and great about giving us a refund. We will definitely stay there again and recommend to family and friends visiting Yorkshire.
Fantastic experience: Lovely hotel, rooms were large and with two double beds in the room it was a delight. Breakfast was fantastic and the main meals were amazing with large portions and great food. Drinks were a bit pricey but not more than other hotels. Spa was great and pool was clean and well maintained. We have already re booked.
Positive experience: Overall a good hotel food was a lovely. room probably needs an update but slept well. The whole hotel needs a refurb looking tired. My main niggle is the pool was freezing and a bit tired the steam room smelt arful no menthol so smelt horrendous. It’s a shame as in lovely grounds just needs updating throughout. We had a massage again good massage but needs modernising.
Positive experience: Breakfast was cold not even warm .plates also stone cold . Location beautiful. Was given wrong information . Lost my purse was handed in but reception failed to notify me so we had a wasted 2 hour journey into Leeds n back coz of no purse . Had to keep asking for milk coffee etc . Leisure facilities great but changing room floors very very slippy n dangerous and they are open changing rooms no cubicles . Young kids were allowed in the jacuzzi despite signs saying not allowed . Very disappointing
Fantastic experience: I had my 50th Birthday Party here last Saturday. What a superb venue. Family and friends stayed with us at the Hotel and it was such a fantastic experience. The Grill on the Hill was great for evening meals and coffee. The breakfast room is gorgeous, really open and light and the food was lovely. The service generally in the Hotel was brilliant. Such friendly, engaging and helpful staff. At the party itself, you hardly noticed the staff as they were so efficient. Everything was catered for and the event ran so smoothly. The Christmas decorations were all up and the Hawksworth Suite looked magical. Couldn't have asked for a better venue for a special celebration. Thank you to everyone from the Hotel who made it so wonderful. Our bedroom was upgraded to a suite too which was so luxurious. Loved it all!
Negative experience: I wouldn't recommend eating at The Grill On The Hill. I came here yesterday with my Auntie and had high expectations as it's a 4 star hotel. Unfortunately, the food didn't meet my expectations. I had the butternut and mushroom risotto which was bland and unseasoned. For £13, the cost didn't reflect the quality at all. The only positive thing about it was the size of the portion. Also, the website says it's pet friendly, it definitely isn't! It's stupid pets aren't allowed in the restaurant, bars or function rooms.
Fantastic experience: As a dog owner, I really would recommend this hotel, as a place to stay, not only for other dog owners, but to anyone who wishes to have very good gym, pool and spa facilities. being surrounded by it's own golf course, gives all dog owners, marvellous walks and the rooms given, to those with dogs, have easy access, out of the building, without having to go through the main hotel. Excellent breakfast as well. My suggestion, is that the rooms do need a bit of an update.
Negative experience: Absolutely disgraceful company, In a nut shell we booked a spa day and break away for the weekend which was sold as a luxury escape. The experience was far from luxury. After we complained in the hotel regarding shocking treatments, food & service we was told the hotel manager will have to deal with it. Clearly fobbed off, numerous other customers not happy during our stay. Please avoid at all costs! The hotel as recently left the Marriott group and been taken over by Britannia hotels. Please save your money and avoid!!!
Positive experience: Nice location, rooms and staff. Sadly and majorly let down by wait time for food. Kebab starter arrived after 1 and half hours and now approaching 2hrs and no sign of mains. Was quoted 30mins, so better understanding of kitchen wait times would go a long way to placating customers!
Positive experience: Lovely hotel on nice grounds, but pricey as this was a last minute booking. Rooms a bit tired and Covid can’t have been kind to the hotel sums, since hotel consumables and breakfast items weren’t high spec, but the pool is a light a spacious 25 meter effort in a vaulted space and there are plenty of nooks and crannies around reception for chats and catch ups, very kid friendly and staff are great.
Negative experience: Stayed on a works course and everything was paid for but due to lack of communication between staff, it was embarrassing to watch them trying to sort it out. The staff were young, rude, inexperienced and couldn't be bothered. The hotel is dated and had a problem with flies. Flies were landing on meat at the morning buffet, the drinks machine was broken. Flies in the dining area at night.Hardly any staff around to help in the morning. The room was dated with various faults and deteriorated furniture. The bed was comfortable but had holed bedding. I wouldn't pay to stay here again. Food was nice but needs updating and staff trying with manners. Only staff member who was nice and went out of way to help was a lady called Pam with tattoos. Well done Pam. But wouldn't stay again. I'll stick with Premier Inn.
Negative experience: I am writing this review whilst im actually staying here. The rooms are very dated , although the bed is very comfortable, the reception staff are polite and professional and that's the end of the good bit. The bar staff in the grill on the hill are extremely unprofessional, ill informed , un ironed uniforms , the bar manager walked through the door directly infront of me and let it close in my face. I found my own table and checked out the menu made my choice went to the bar to order ( no waiter service ) only to be told that my choice was from yesterday and that they hadn't replaced it with today's specials yet. So I made another choice and went back to the till to order and pay only to be told I'd have to go to the other till to make a payment. For a Marriot Hotel I found this extremely discouraging and if this is their standards I won't be staying with them again
Positive experience: There was a few issues that could of been due to short staff. 1. confidential booking in forms let out on reception, for other customers to see.i.e Name address, phone no. 2. No room service unless u went to ask for bed to be made, clean towels. Tea bags ,sugar, etc, 3. We had a flood in room , we told them in the morning . To come back to a awfull smell. we were not approached to change room. Till we smelt room after being out. So we went to reception and they Said Ohh dear u will have to change room. So lucky it was only next door . 4. We went to the bar and grill for tea . To not been served. They were talking continually to another customer laughing and joking. So we left and went out for food. So It did in convenienced us after having a long day out exploring. Lovely hotel but a few issues that need addressing by higher managers. If the service was better then the experience would of been great. Positive feedback bed and pillows were amazing breakfast too.
Positive experience: Beautiful setting and surroundings. Unfortunately the rooms are in need of an update, as is whole building. Waited over an hour after ordering to be served an evening meal which was mediocre at best. Several of the 'hot' breakfast items were clay cold and it was only mid service by then. Looks a lot better than it actually is!
Negative experience: We stayed for two nights. Checking in was quite slow and once arriving in the room, we could tell the bathroom hadn't been cleaned, especially around the toilet area and sink. Also we were only given one pillow each for the room. Usually they have spares in the wardrobes. Also the walls are paper thin. We were next to some pretty inconsiderate people, not the hotels fault, but you can hear the taps running next door, never mind people talking at the tops of their voices walking down the corridor. Overall its needs a major refurbishment, as people would rather stay in Premier inns. At least you know you have a comfortable bed and clean room. Can't comment on the food, but the hotel itself is in lovely grounds and looks stunning from the road.
Positive experience: Beautiful exterior. Very imposing building. Interior requires updating. We prebooked breakfast as we had a late flight, but the food was cold and the eggs like rubber. We had an evening meal there too and waited over 1 hour for our food. Glad we didn't pay anymore than we did for the room, I understand that the upkeep on such a building must be expensive, but the lack of investment could be forgiven if the food offerings were better. Good location for a flight from Leeds if you have own transport.
Fantastic experience: Great venue and very helpful staff. It's quite a climb to the first tee, but a lift is available. Clubhouse and Hotel are very nice and the catering was excellent. Lovely views on the golf course, and very challenging greens, a good test of golf. Really enjoyed the 2 day break with friends.
Negative experience: My husband and I visited this hotel a year ago and had a lovely stay so we booked to stay again while visiting family in Yorkshire for a funeral. On arrival we checked into our room immediately we saw the wardrobe doors were broken. After a long journey we needed to sleep as we had to be up early the next morning The bathroom only had one towel and half a toilet roll. We had to leave early for the family funeral so when we returned our door keys were not working so we went to reception we informed them the wardrobe doors were broken and received a blank expression with no apology. After activating our cards we entered our room and as non smokers we could tell someone had been smoking in our room. The room had not been replenished with coffee or milk so I asked at reception only to be told that the rooms are not cleaned since covid and you had to request that service I pointed out that should be explained when we arrived at the hotel . Again I received no apology and pointed out our wardrobe was not fixed by this stage I told the reception staff that their customer service skills were lacking This visit was so disappointing and our room was tired and needed attention when your paying £114 per night one expects a better standard . Management need to speak to the junior staff to improve customer service. The grounds are beautiful the breakfast is excellent and the dining room staff were very attentive.
Fantastic experience: We got married at Hollins Hall in early August, and cannot recommend the venue enough. From our first consultation to the day itself, everything was managed so well, and we were so impressed. Tanya, the events coordinator, is wonderful - and was so helpful and organised in the lead up to the big day, and ensured the day itself ran completely to plan. Planning a wedding can be daunting at times, but Tanya put us completely at ease - we could rest assured that everything was in hand - and handled brilliantly. The rest of the staff were also so friendly and helpful, going above and beyond to make the day as special as possible - from a tray of breakfast brought up to the room in the morning, to a golf buggy ride to the nearby viaduct for photos as the sun was setting. We had the best wedding day - thank you to the whole team!
Positive experience: Lovely hotel, very clean and comfortable. Stunning wedding venue, dance floor and bar area a little small but I didn't mind that. Rooms very spacious, clean, bathroom a good size. Food was delicious and grounds were well kept. Reception staff very helpful with extra towels, milk etc even at 230am with very drunk guests
Negative experience: I had booked a spa afternoon, including a back neck and shoulder massage, the use of the facilities for me and my partner, when we arrived we was greeted by a lovely lady at the reception who guided us through to the lockers and spa treatments areas, we then went onto using the facilities, we then decided to get a little break in the restaurant, I decided I wanted a hot chocolate, when I asked for whipped cream they didn't have any, my drink was lukewarm, even though I wanted it extra hot, the staff where very rude, I wasn't very happy, onto our appointment for the treatment was at 6pm, so we arrived there 10 minutes before, we again was greeted by Georgia and Edita, went onto fill in some consultation forms before we was guided to the treatment rooms. I had a couple's massage booked which when I asked over the phone was in the same room at the same time, we was both seperated, and the therapist wasn't very friendly she didn't speak a word, the treatment was only 15 minutes long even though I was told it was 30 minutes, all the concentration was on my back, the shoulders and neck massage was not included. The overall cleaniness of the spa wasn't great, needs alot updating , the showers were mouldy and dirty and the lockers broken and jammed doors, the showers didn't have any privacy locks which was very unusual, I would not recommend this location. Very disappointed for the first and last visit
Fantastic experience: We recently had our wedding and reception at Hollins Hall and couldn't recommend it enough! Tanya and her team were really helpful all the way through from booking until the big day itself. All our needs were met and we were well looked after. The photos we were able to take in the grounds and at the bottom of the golf course were really special too. Thank you!
Negative experience: The only nice experience is the outer grounds Breakfast was poor, no coffee, discarded food on floor. Nearly fell on my back slipping on bacon on floor. Dirty plates(with food on them)Food was nasty . Grill on the hill had barely adequate food (burnt burger) although the dirty fries were nice. The bar was terrible, didn't even have coke. The room was clean but paying 180+ with the booking saying the room had a veiw (Carpark views don't really count as a 'veiw) vomit outside our room. Overall I wouldn't even pay half the price for this place. Actually I wouldn't even pay a quarter.
