Chine Hotel: Opinions
Positive experience: Very quiet location not close to vehicle noise.
Fantastic experience: Epetacula
Negative experience: Very bad
Negative experience: Sadly after gifting this break to my daughter and new fiance as an engagement present I was saddened to here that they were unable to Locate staff and had to leave due to hygiene issues
Fantastic experience: Beautiful hotel. Extremely clean, spacious and comfortable too. One feels as if you have stepped to the 1920s era. Its definitely worth a visit. 10mins walk to the excellent beach. The Amalfi restaurant within the hotel serves marvelous food.
Positive experience: This hotel is not suitable for anyone with a walking difficulty. It is spread over several floors some not served by a lift which is tiny and does not accommodate a wheel chair. We asked for an accessible walk in shower but it was raised above the floor by about 1ft therefore not accessible if walking unaided is a problem. The hotel was clean and the food good but don't visit if you are not fully mobile.
Positive experience: No bar snacks available - only crisps!
Fantastic experience: Prefect relaxing atmosphere and all the staff are friendly and attentive too
Fantastic experience: Wonderful
Fantastic experience: Great place nice indoor pool outdoor pool hot tub and food was good room with see views verry nice
Negative experience: The receptionist was unfriendly. No detail directions. The indoor swimming pool closed before the actual time that was allotted on my card. Not recommended. The rooms were filled with old telephone, chairs and furniture. Not recommended.
Positive experience: Lovely, quirky old place. Full of creaky floorboards, very small lifts, lol, but lots of character. Staff are lovely and helpful. The cleaning staff are a bit overzealous and wasteful, with things like, changing the towels in your room too often, or, in the restaurant, clearing your breakfast things before you actually finished and just gone to get more. But, generally, a really nice place!
Positive experience: Yes. Staff were very friendly nice room but shower not good breakfast was lovely and the walk down to beach is amazing pools and spa lovely will be coming back
Fantastic experience: Tucked a bit further out from the main part of Bournemouth, this is a little treasure that I will definitely be coming back to. Close proximity to the beach and the outdoor pool was perfect to relax by. Room was very clean and the bed was very comfortable. The only thing I would suggest is to have a pool side bar/drinks/sandwiches station by the pool during the summer month as going upstairs in your swimming costume isn't ideal. Staff were friendly and the breakfast had multiple options. Restaurant booking is definitely recommended as it was a popular choice.
Fantastic experience: All staff were helpful polite and well trained. The hotel is very clean although a little dated in places, very cute old fashioned lift but served its purpose, beautiful gardens although uneven in places if you have mobility needs I wouldn't recommend using the path, there's plenty of free parking, short walk from the beach by road or through the garden, I would definitely stay again
Fantastic experience: Nice and clean hotel.Staff is very friendly.Rooms are big,we will come back again.
Fantastic experience: Very good
Positive experience: Stayed June 2022 for 4 nights.Paid a bit over £200 per night for a sea view (through trees) room with balcony. This hotel is a bit tricky to describe/sum up: Charming and rather quaint but dated fixtures and fittings, some of which are in a poor state of repair. Eg All bathroom fittings look like they're from the 1970s and have lost all patina, loo seat loose/broken, furniture very worn and on last legs with some hinges loose. (Beware pidgeons likely to visit your room if you leave balcony door ajar.) Wifi works, but pretty slow. However, surroundings and charm, and great staff (with 1 exception*) make up for it. Superb outdoor pool with 30° water. Only 16 sunbeds and 6 parasols though, contrary to website's claim of 'plenty'. A few more (4 I think) loungers in the garden, though 1 was broken and at least 1 other covered in bird poo. Locals use pool (£20 family of 4) meaning you risk, as we got, constant pre-school child noise all day long, even during weekday school term time. Breakfast good. Could hear sea waves from room, which was lovely. Sachets of instant coffee in rooms is just not OK at this price - should have Nespresso machines or similar. Car parking spaces are few and one night I had to park on a street a few minutes walk away. Interesting that a local paper article found online interviewing the owner states this hotel makes no profit and is supported by other parts of the business (he has 4 hotels in the area). I think with some improvements repeat business would be more likely. Whether I would return or not is 50/50 but my wife is pretty keen (she loves pools). So we probably will . *1 pool guy somehow thought it was OK to walk into the pool area, and whack on Radio 1 loud on a cheap nasty sounding stereo (am I being a Victor Meldrew? ). On the other hand a different pool guy asked a guest earlier in the week to turn down his music, which was obviously the right thing to do.
Fantastic experience: We had our wedding on 3rd June 22, arrived 2 days before and stayed for 2 days after. The staff were all amazing and couldn’t do enough for us and it made our wedding day totally amazing. Will be going back regularly to have mini breaks. Thank you all the staff and event team
Fantastic experience: We stayed as a party of 15, and the staff both pre-check in and whilst we stayed (reception and within the restaurant/bar) were incredibly friendly and welcoming. The grounds (outdoor pool, trees and gardens) are beautiful and with peaks of the ocean - idyllic. Both spa (2x hot tubs, 1x sauna, 2x pools) and breakfast (big tasty collection) are also very good. Value for money-wise this place is very good and would love to come back. As others have noted some of the decor a little tired, but this is trivial when everything else is just right.
Fantastic experience: Absolutely fantastic hotel , fabulous staff nothing is too much trouble.
Fantastic experience: The first impression when you walk in the hotel was good.. Nature loving ambiance feel relaxing and sea views from the rooms. The service was excellent throughout. Emma, Roberta and others. The rooms need to be improved which did not matter me much. Soft play area for the kids and swimming pool. Definitely will go make again.
Fantastic experience: Staff very helpful hotel lovely gardens fantastic
Fantastic experience: Stayed here for one night and was blown away by how good it was. We had a brilliant view of the sea from our balcony. The Italian restaurant is amazing, one of the best meals I've had in a long time. Breakfast was perfect with loads of choice. The staff were friendly and welcoming. Will be staying for longer next time. Would've liked a more powerful shower if I had to be really fussy.
Fantastic experience: Fuss free, great location for a chill out stay, bar and lounges are perfect for the sunny days. Breakfast was spot on and evening meals were catered well.
Fantastic experience: Good stay shame about the outdoor pool Closed
Negative experience: This hotel was far from being fabulous. Check in staff were very friendly so we thought that was a good start, however got to the room and keys didn’t work. Room very tired looking. Got to the bar for some lunch at 3.15 as the info sheet in room said food available until the evening. But they were not serving food. So, bag of crisps for lunch it was. We decided to go to the restaurant for dinner. What a rip off. A £9.50 bottle of wine was £25. Food portions were small and my husband clearly had been given yesterday’s lasagne for dinner. When we asked the staff she said she would pass comments to the chef. No comment from the chef. They add a 10% service charge to your bill!!!! Back to the room and it was a little cold so I turned on radiator valves but they remained cold. So husband trekked downstairs and asked if there was a problem. They brought up a dyson heater - eventually. Slept ok but beds quite small. Woke up for a bath, no hot water. I rang down to ask if there was a problem and they said they would look into. No reply. Ended up boiling the worlds slowest kettle to try and heat up water to give me daughter a wash. Breakfast….served up to you which was novel but most of the cooked food was cold. Toaster machine either gave you a light toast or cremated toast if you put it through twice. Husband then spoke to reception to ask about the hot water and they said he would need to speak to the manger on check out as she couldn’t help. On check out she called the manager over who really didn’t care less. Apparently they don’t turn the boiler in too early to heat up the water. Too early??? I had a bath at 8am! He also said they turned off the heating system a few days ago so none of the radiators in the hotel would work. He offered us a 10% discount on our next stay which is quite an insult as when you pay £238 a night for a room it’s peanuts. Firstly we hadn’t said we would come back and secondly why would we want to. Manger could not offer anything else as we had booked through hotels.com. Left feeling utterly fuming and ripped off!! When you pay good money for a room you expect good service. Won’t be going back……
Fantastic experience: The lift in this hotel is worth a visit all on its own!
Fantastic experience: Superb hotel. We had amazing time and enjoyed the lovely Spa with indoor jacuzzi, swimming pool and sauna as well as the outdoor hot tube with the amazing garden views. The restaurant was lovely with 5 Star service from Justyna who was really friendly and welcoming, sharing local knowledge and interesting history of Chine Hotel. The location was great, short walk from the beach. I left truly impressed and woul like to come back. Highly recommended.
Negative experience: Very good accommodation but avoid evening meals
Positive experience: It was closed when I went there but I'm sure that be ok when it's opened
Fantastic experience: Stylish hotel with beautiful garden and leisure. Great and hardworking staff.
Fantastic experience: Wonderful.hotel and amazing grounds .lst class staff its all.amazing
Fantastic experience: This is one of the best hotels in Bournemouth, it might be 3 star on paper but it's got a great customer service and deserves at least 4 stars. We have stayed there 3 times along last 7 years and it's been always a great experience.
Positive experience: Cooked breakfast not hot, otherwise friendly helpful staff, comfortable room, enjoyed swim etc
Fantastic experience: Had a fantastic stay here and was upgraded to a sea view room when the hotel learnt it was our wedding anniversary. Everyone was so accommodating and friendly. Very clean. A bonus to have a swimming pool and small gym. Will definitely return. Thank you.
Fantastic experience: We went to the Chine hotel for a weekend getaway with our 2 children and we had a fantastic time! The room was super spacious and clean. The breakfast buffet offered lots of choice and was enjoyed by all. Our children loved the soft play room and the swimming pool. There was a lifeguard on duty who regularly checked the water quality which was great. We had lunch at the hotel one day and the food was good. The hotel is located super close to the beach, next to a lovely park and Bournemouth is just a walk or bus ride away. We thought it was great value for money and would like to return in the summer!
Fantastic experience: Though a short break we had a great time, lovely room with veranda overlooking lovely gardens and sea views. Enjoyed using the spa facilities. Staff friendly and helpful. All in all a great time had.
Fantastic experience: Recommended - thanks for a great stay! Very friendly welcome and staff. Bar and breakfast both lovely. Pool and sauna were great. Location was great with lovely gardens and walk down to front (but be aware boscombe is on a hill so elderly or disabled will need to drive down - obviously not hotels fault!) Bedroom very clean and comfortable bed. Bathroom a little dated and tired - could do with an upgrade. Overall I’d say 4.5 stars, only held back from 5 stars because of dated bathroom.
Positive experience: This is a solid hotel. We were impressed with how clean the place is. There is a small health club with a pool and sauna; although a bit dated, again very clean and well presented. Good breakfast buffet, would recommend.
Fantastic experience: This hotel was really lovely, there are a few parking spaces out the front and further along. It has a Swimming pool indoors and a Sauna and Jacuzzi, a pool outside and hot tub, which I believe close on 30th September. Lovely Chine gardens leading down to the beach, there is a door which needs a code to let you out. The room was nice and big, you could see the Sea from our room. Breakfast you could choose as much as you fancied, someone serves you the hot breakfast, you just tell them what you would like.
Fantastic experience: Friendly and good
Fantastic experience: Anyone who says breakfast is poor needs their head examined! They are brilliant vast choice of cereals fruit jogurts sausage mushrooms tomatoes the scrambled eggs scrumptious. Plus toast jams and good variety of machine coffees. Soya and almond milk available. Etc etc
Positive experience: We booked a 3-day stay in this hotel. We enjoyed our stay. We got a room in the west wing with a garden and beach view and the room was very nice and clean. The hotel staff were all very very friendly and accomodating and a special mention to Mr. Dionysios who made our dinner on day 2 more memorable and relaxing. We enjoyed their indoor pool and sauna. They've got gym equipment which looked well maintained. We also enjoyed playing table tennis and snooker in their activity area. The reason I rate 4 stars only was because the heater in our room wasn't working. We reported it at the reception but they did not attended to it at all. Nonetheless, I love cool weather so I did not mind, however my wife would've had a better sleep if the heaters were on.
Negative experience: Rooms were very outdated and in need of updating. Not good value for money at all! Balcony was covered in a rusty metal sheet with holes in it to see the view I guess. Booked it based on glowing reviews but regretted that as soon as I entered the room. Spa facilities close at 7pm!! But outside pool was closed for maintenance when we were there despite not being told that when we checked in. Overall I will definitely never go back.
Positive experience: Well situated hotel on the clifftop above Boscombe Pier. Lovely views. Michaela from the hotel reception was particularly helpful and informative.
Fantastic experience: Very friendly staff, nice room and really enjoyed the pools and hot tubs! Close to the love beach also. Breakfast could have been better though
Positive experience: Nice hotel. We had family room, sea view with balcony which was very spacious as only me and my husband. Menu in restaurant not very large but food was really good and lots of it. Only thing I wasn't 100% happy with is the fact facemasks were encouraged but hardly anyone was wearing them and none of the staff in the restaurant was which made me uncomfortable a bit. I would recommend this hotel. Also think they need signs to direct you how to get to the outdoor pool and spa areas as couldn't see one sign
Positive experience: Nice comfortable hotel with stunning coastal views and garden that lead down to the Chine. Breakfast was good and the staff were friendly. Our room was nice although not a great view & windows were difficult to open. Friends that had booked a room with sea view in adjoining buildings told us that rooms there needed some refurbishment. Spa, gym, indoor and outdoor pool were lovely. An enjoyable few days away.
Fantastic experience: Wonderful hotel and grounds, don't be put off by the outside of the west wing, it beautiful inside..staff very accommodating and friendly.. Great facilities, we will be back
Positive experience: Excellent location and pretty good value for money when compared to nearby hotels. The decor is a little tired, but the room we had was very spacious with a separate room for our child. The gardens leading down to Boscombe beach are lovely but not suitable for those with any mobility issues as the paths are bumpy and steep. Breakfast was lovely and all staff were polite and helpful. The only negative is that the decor is well past its prime and there was a peculiar smell of mothballs in the adjoining corridor between buildings. Overall a very good hotel and suitable for families.
Positive experience: Welcome to the twilight zone ...you have been transported back to 1950....wooden marquetry flooring. Plaster cornices. High ceilings. Recently decorated in a white and grey colour scheme. Owned by F J Butterworth (hence the name FJB Hotels ) it was visited by Theatrical Royalty of the 1940's and 1950's. Now if you are under 40 some of the names will escape you as ( long dead) celebrity pictures of stars such as Tommy Cooper Katherine Hepburn and Rock Hudson stare down at you. Once used in the winter time for a theatrical version of the horror film" The Shining " the history of the hotel is spread amongst thirty year plus certificates of various awards as you ascend the stairs. The Golden gated 1900's lift is unusual . Gorgeous gardens with fantastic trees and plants. Indoor and outdoor pools ,both heated , included in the price. Private path through the garden to the beach. Good service, plentiful staff. Breakfast was well organised and plentiful. ( Get there before 0900 to avoid the queues ). This hotel is therefore NOT new . No room a/c. The beds were comfortable and everything clean. Ok , you had to run around under the shower to get wet ( low water pressure) . WiFi ? So slow a letter would be quicker But this style of hotel is rare now , old money and quality exudes from the walls. Limited free parking. We got lucky with a space by reception. One day some rich oligarch will flatten this place and build some ( Private ) blue glass and concrete monstrosity. Enjoy it whilst you can. And say Hi to Lloyd at the Bar.
Positive experience: Although somewhat outdated, the hotel is well kept and surrounded by lovely gardens and very close to Boscombe beach and pier
Fantastic experience: Enjoyed our stay here. Good facilities and convenient location.
Fantastic experience: It's a 3 star hotel and we wer not expecting anything more than that. The room we stayed could do with a little furniture upgrade, but that didn't bother us. It was spacious, a big wardrobe, desk and private bathroom. It was perfect for the purpose. The hotel and the facilities were super good. Staff was nice and I like to mention Roberta who was very attentive, friendly and made us feel very welcome. The hotel garden is a beautiful relaxed environment to chill, read or even just take a walk around. It has a gate that leads to Boscombe pier, it was amazing to be on the beach in 2 minutes walk. I would highly recommend this place. It exceeded our expectations and we would not hesitate to go back.
Negative experience: The food was ok but was cold mostly. There were nice people there but Service was terrible. Last time I came a year ago the hotel was a lot better but now it’s gone a lot down in. Rating. You weren’t allowed to go in the pool unless there are two adults with you if you are 16 and under. This also includes the indoor pool Jacuzzi and the gym. The rooms were smaller than a living room and overall I would give this stay a 2.5 star. Review.
Fantastic experience: Booked last minute. Very pleasant 3 star hotel. Book in advance to get better rates. Outside pool was heated and indoor pool and jacuzzi well maintained. Rooms very clean and very spacious. Breakfast was good quality and staffed well. Would highly recommend staying at The Chine.
Fantastic experience: Why is this hotel only 3 stars? We were impressed from the moment we arrived, the photos from their website actually matched what we found. The rooms (we booked three) were lovely and so quiet. I'm a poor sleeper, so I'm usually let down when a hotel insists the room is 'quiet'; not so here, The Chine is on a very quiet road and the other side faces towards their own gardens and the sea. The rest of the facilities are wonderful: spacious dining room (with view of gardens), terrace, bar, indoor AND outdoor swimming pools, gym, hot tub, sauna, table tennis, snooker table, gardens and private path down to their own gate to the seafront. I don't always enjoy swimming pools, as their definition of 'warm' is not mine; not so here, both pools (yes, the outside one too) were deliciously warm and well-maintained and they were NEVER too busy. As if that wasn't gushy enough, I have to mention the staff: from the reception staff to the dining staff, the lifeguards to the cleaners, all were professional, courteous and helpful. They really made our stay. Special mention to Martin, Ethan and Charles, the lifeguards; they were professional but a real laugh, thanks guys. A mention too to Tadas, the trainer who worked in the gym; I had never visited a gym before, but was persuaded to give it a go. Tadas, I'm a convert, thank you for your expert care, I actually enjoyed working out! As to the location, Boscombe is a mile or so from Bournemouth town centre. The hotel has parking (we always found a parking space, even in late July), there is a main bus route, two minutes walk away and you can walk to Bournemouth along the seafront, or get the land train if you're not up for the exercise. You can hire bikes and e-scooters on the seafront as well. The beaches are amazing, Boscombe Chine Gardens are lovely (cafe and play park for toddlers, basketball court for teenagers and above) as is Boscombe Pier. Get an ice-cream from Reefside Ices, the stem ginger is to die for! Restaurants and diners aplenty, plus surf shop with lessons and board hire. What's not to like?! Two other thngs to mention: our room was a family room. Whilst it was lovely and provided everything we needed, it had an idiosyncracy in that some hot water pipes ran up the inside of the wall at the head of the bed. This made the room slightly warm; if you like a cool room, you might want to mention this when booking. We did mention this to the manager, who was very responsive. The poor man understandably couldn't exactly rip the pipes out of the wall, but he did provide us with a fan, which helped. Lastly, a plea: please treat the staff with respect. The swimming pool rules are made by law, not randomly by the hotel. They are reasonable and there for your safety. Please do not abuse the lifeguards, they are doing their job. If you don't like rules, swim in the sea where you are free to drown yourself.
Positive experience: A definite air of 'faded grandeur' but with some modern refurbishments. Rooms are clean, very large and have high ceilings. Suites and family rooms are also avaliable. Excellent facilities with indoor and outdoor pools, gym, soft play room, bar with food and a beautiful and well maintained garden that runs almost all the way to the beach - a small coded gate lets guests in and out. The only real drawback is the parking situation: there is free parking, but very little of it and it is weirdly arranged in a somewhat haphazard manner across the front of several neighbouring buildings.
Negative experience: If the grounds were as good as the service or the decor, then this would be a 5 star. Unfortunately, our stay was let down by obnoxious, unaccommodating staff members and very dated furnishings that belong firmly in the '80s. As also raised by previous guests, the rooms are desperately overpriced, with the en suite toilets akin to those you'd expect to find at a low end budget-friendly hotel chain. DO NOT eat in the restaurant either - the food is clearly not prepared fresh. We had to take our own plates of food (down 2 flights of stairs) to the terrace to eat - because the waiting staff couldnt bring the food outside. So, the same system you'd get in McDonalds. And at £22 for an overcooked Sirloin steak (which didnt come with a steak knife OR the ordered peppercorn suace) sat on a table that has to be propped up with blue roll, I'd rather have gone to the fast food chain for our dinner.
Positive experience: very good , in door out door pools , top spot ! Will go again !
Negative experience: We stayed here once before and our daughter loved the outside pool but on returning I have the same complaint as many others I tried to book an outside pool slot this time as I assumed it would be busier but was told you can only book on arrival We tried to book on arrival and all the slots for both days were filled so they obviously aren’t able to accommodate slots for the number of guests so don’t rely on being able to use the pool They should really make this known to guests online before they book otherwise guests are not receiving the use of the pool as part of what they are paying for! I guess they don’t let paying customers know upfront otherwise they may try and book an alternative
Negative experience: We booked a weeks stay at this hotel, having enjoyed a visit 2 years ago. On arrival we were given a letter with the receipt for our payment, which informed us that our rooms would only be cleaned every third day and that the spa and sauna were closed and we would have to book a slot to use the pool. We were so disappointed and disgusted that we had not been forewarned. We had to wait around for ages while they sorted out our rooms. We had booked for disabled access and despite this, had been put in rooms in the annexe, which were completely unsuitable and we had to be moved. So not a great start. We then discovered that we could not use the lift to the downstairs lounge and garden, which they claimed was not working. This was our only means of accessing the outdoor swimming pool, which was the main reason for choosing this hotel for our holiday. We had not been give prior warning of this lack of amenity access for someone in a wheelchair. During our stay we struggled down two flights of stairs, bear in mind we are in our 80's! Only on our final day were we offered any assistance. There were 10% service charges for all our drinks and meals and the menu had a mere 3 choices, which didn't change for the 4 days we managed to stick it out for. We could not face any more of this uninspiring fare, especially given the exorbitant prices and lack of service. So we cut short our stay and went home. During our holiday the hotel staff were very friendly but were clearly over worked and complained of being tired. They had 150 guests on the weekend and the restaurant was full. Overall we were so utterly disappointed at this total lack of care and regard for guests, especially those who are incapacitated and would not recommend it as a place to stay and will certainly not be returning ourselves.
Fantastic experience: Lovely place superb room. Food five star along with superb staff. Would definitely go back
Fantastic experience: Spent 9 days here in June. Lovely hotel with lovely attentive staff.
Positive experience: Great location with lovely gardens. The staff are polite and helpful but there is not enough of them making service slow. The rooms are in desperate need of updating especially the bathrooms. No aircon, fridge or iron
Fantastic experience: Stayed at the hotel a few weeks back and it was great. Clean and friendly staff.
Positive experience: Lovely hotel room with a sea view, great breakfast friendly and helpful staff
Negative experience: Gone downhill Been coming to the chine for 10 years and we’ve loved it but stayed this weekend and it’s clear they have let the hotel go. The room had a lot of cobwebs. The tv didn’t work and when we called to get it fixed they didn’t fix it. No hairdryer in the room. The prices were far higher than normal and the service was substandard. I’m sorry to have to write this but I would recommend staying elsewhere for now. I genuinely hope it improves but it wasn’t the experience we have been used to in the past.
Fantastic experience: Very clean rooms as everything you need .staff very helpful. We have a lovely view of the gardens from our bedroom.
Positive experience: Great position for going to the beach, wonderful garden and heated swimming pool, rooms are fine, structure is old but fine, too many stairs for kids or accessibility (historical elevator, staircase not too big, saw someone struggling to bring a crib up and down). Great breakfast, so and so restaurant. Personnel nice but inexperienced (we were at the beginning of season, just after Covid opening, so to be expected) Surely we'll try to come and enjoy again
Fantastic experience: Very nice and amazing place for relax.♥️
Fantastic experience: I love this place got a classical appeal stayed many times great location just a short walk through beautiful gardens to Boscombe pier n beach .indoor and outdoor pools in garden ...staff are exceptional....negatives such a hyped price for bank holiday .a service charge on bar n restaurant for 2 people not accetable .though i will go again
Negative experience: The Chine Hotel is a hotel in a great location, but falls below the standard I'd expect from the price they charge for the rooms. It's a short walk downhill to the shorefront and to Boscombe pier, which is far quieter than the beaches further towards the main Bournemouth pier which is about a 25 minute walk along the promenade. Parking is a bit of a nightmare. There's very limited off-road parking which is dispersed around the hotel buildings. You'll have to be very lucky to get one of these spots at busy times and don't be surprised if it's at an odd angle or tucked away. There's about half a dozen bays outside the hotel entrance itself - including a couple of disabled spots; another dozen or so by the west wing building and a further half dozen behind the main building. If you aren't lucky enough to get one of these then you'll have to park on the road but these spots are also fairly limited. The main hotel building itself is fairly well kept inside, albeit a little dated. Unfortunately, the room we were given isn't in the main building but inside the west wing instead which is a separate building. This building doesn't have the same attention - it's even more dated, very creaky and smells a bit musky. The room itself was a good size. We asked for a garden view and got it - the sea can be seen from the room and it overlooked part of the garden and the outdoor pool. The bed was terrible. It was meant to be a double bed but really was two singles pushed together with a double sheet put on top. The springs could be felt like daggers. I'm honestly not sure where they found the beds or how old the mattresses were, but it was not hotel quality at all. The bathroom was OK, but again quite dated. There was a shaver socket, and a shower over bath. The shower spewed brown water for the first couple of minutes it was on and the shower head was disgusting. I needed to clean all the limescale off it before water would come out of most of the nozzles. The water pressure was good though and there was no issue with the temperature either. The room was stuffy at night over a warm weekend. No air-conditioning and the windows only opened about 6 inches. The floorboards were squeaky and must have driven the people downstairs mad. The room came with tea/coffee facilities and the usual toiletries. There wasn't an iron, but housekeeping were able to provide one with a call to reception. No idea the spa or sauna were any good because they were closed - could be to do with COVID but I'm not sure. The outdoor pool was also closed for maintenance on our first day, but we didn't use either pool in the end because you needed to book an hour's slot when you arrive, and we needed the flexibility. Again, not sure if that was to do with COVID or not. Breakfast was fairly standard. Nothing exceptional but perfectly adequate and what you might expect: full English, cereals, toast, selection of juices. We didn't use the restaurant or bar otherwise. All in all, a fairly dated hotel and not what I'd expect for the amount paid (>£200 a night). I will look elsewhere for my next visit to Bournemouth.
Negative experience: For the price you pay, this place is horrible. Check in is STRICTLY from 4pm, there is hardly any service at the bar, and most of the facilities we were looking forward to (and paying for) are closed - outdoor pool, spa, sauna etc. The bed in our room is from the seventies - I can feel the springs sticking into my lower back. The only redeeming feature is its proximity to the beach. NOT an international standard and in desperate need of a makeover plus new service staff. Good luck.
Positive experience: Food excellent and well presented. Only downsize was the old style lift which wasn't reliable. Staff friendly and helpful
Positive experience: Nice location near the beach, but the staff always looked at me wierd and the food is too sophisticated for me
Positive experience: Very nice room but hot tub was broken and the Poole was dirty at the bottom
Positive experience: Great little family suite. Indoor pool and children’s play area a very welcome distraction for the little ones.
Positive experience: Good size room, food a bit on the pricy side, walking distance to beach but not much else. But great pool
Fantastic experience: Lovely hotel very friendly staff ,good food
Fantastic experience: nice hotel. the place to sleep.
Fantastic experience: Brilliant hotel. Staff friendly, buffet breakfast is good but the food in the restaurant in the evening is excellent. Our standard double was ok though bed was super comfortable. Shower pressure wasn't the best but it was enough for a shower. Lovely gardens and a great outdoor pool. Highly recommended.
Fantastic experience: Amazing view of the sea from our room! Breathtaking to wake up to. Peaceful location. Very clean room. Beds were really comfortable. Good breakfast for the price and services. Staff were very helpful. The leisure facilities was really good, we enjoyed the warm swimming pool both indoor and outdoor. Our favourite was the outdoor hot tub. They’ve got spa facilities too in their hotel which offer a great massage service (Seaview Health & Beauty Studios). Parking is a bit of a nightmare but they do have extra parking at their garages on Wharncliffe Road.
Positive experience: Lovely hotel set in beautiful grounds at a great seaside location. The staff and service were excellent. Room was little tired but very clean. Bar snacks were nice. The only thing letting this place down is the breakfast. Quite possibly the worst English breakfast I've had in any hotel. Continental breakfast was fine.
Fantastic experience: Ideally situated for so much
Fantastic experience: Great hotel, staff very helpful and the rooms very clean. 5 mins from Boscombe Pier, so a super location. Only minor whinge is the lack of sun beds around the outdoor pool and the usual British towel down, disappear for ages mentally (the 2nd point no fault of the hotel) Restaurant food including breakfast was lovely. Will definitely recommend and return in the future. Thank you to all the staff
Fantastic experience: We recently stayed here for 3 nights . A really nice welcoming hotel for the whole family. Lots to do! 2 nice pools and soft play which my 1year old was addicted to. The family room was great a massive emperor bed and adjacent room with a bunk bed. The staff where extremely helpful and informative and the funsters entertainment was great for the kids. My only slight criticism was the breakfast which could of had slightly more variety. Thank you all at the Chine hotel see you hopefully soon.
Positive experience: What makes this hotel stand out is definately kids club. Entertainment provided by group called Funsters is absolutely briliant. My daughter loved it, thats the main reason why we are coming back to this hotel every year. The only downside this year was Sauna out of service for the whole four days we have spent in the hotel. Improved breakfast from last year as well.
Fantastic experience: Great Hotel, nice rooms, nice gardens, food in restaurant very nice even though menu a bit limited. Staff friendly and helpful, only 5 Min walk from Boscombe pier and 45 Min walk from Bournemouth town centre.
Positive experience: Basic but good food
Fantastic experience: Very good hotel, excellent food, large comfortable room.
Positive experience: A fine hotel in it’s self but had some rude staff. Little bit old fashioned and needs to take a step into the modern world.
Fantastic experience: Delivered on my expectation and exceeded.
Positive experience: Stayed here with family of 4 in April (4 and 8 year old ) Good: The family room was very nice nice with a separate bedroom area for the children - bunk bed. The food for the big people was very good. The hotel has a swimming pool and a kids indoor play area . Hotel has a direct access to the lovely beach below. THE NOT SO GOOD! The man (waiter) at the dining area seemed uninterested and at one time kept us waiting for over 20 minutes even though there were plenty of empty tables in the dining area. We had to leave and look for food elsewhere. The tables in the dining area weren't cleaned well at times and smelt dirty The Children's food!! Super cold and looked like food cooked yesterday. They sat under the lamps but we're still extremely cold. Parking situation is a nightmare - some around the hotel but not enough for the guests. It was very difficult to find parking We found that our bedding was not changed - it has some blood stains on the pillow and had to speak to the cleaning staff to change The doors in the bedroom are so heavy - I mean, seriously heavy.
Fantastic experience: The food was excellent the the staff very polite. Lovely old hotel.
Positive experience: Lovely hotel with beautiful gardens and a great outdoor pool! There were a few hiccups during our stay, but they were swiftly dealt with to our satisfaction. Attentive staff, comfortable spacious rooms with great views! Very near the beach and Biscombe pier.
Fantastic experience: One of the oldest style hotels, but steeped in luxury and a sense of history. If someone is looking for a classy older style hotel that is both reserved and has a high standard of traditional decor. 40 years ago The Royal Bath was such a hotel. The hotel is situated on the edge of Boscombe China.
Fantastic experience: Great location, clean tidy rooms Staff very friendly and helpful Delicious breakfast
Fantastic experience: Large hotel situated about 10 minute walk form the beach. The hotel has good facilities including a heated outdoor pool and indoor pool for when the weather is inclement. The food was good and the dining area is large allowing for large groups to be catered for. The breakfast is buffet style. If you want a good view you need to book seating early. The family room was a bit small and the bed was a bit too small to - but I am rather large so most would find it acceptable. There is a Childrens play room onsite.
