St. Pierre Leisure Club: Opinions
Negative experience: UPDATED - I'm disappointed with the recent changes to the gym. The free weights section has been significantly downgraded. On my last workout, I struggled to find the right weights - there's a serious shortage of Olympic plates. I ended up having to interrupt someone's set on the Smith machine to swap weights, which was awkward and time-consuming. The removal of key equipment is frustrating. No more decline bench or Olympic bar rack, and the double cable machine is gone from the main area. Now we're all crammed onto these small cable machines that are too close together for effective crossover exercises. The new layout is impractical. If someone moves a bench to the squat rack, it leaves just one bench for free weights. For a gym of this size and price, that's unacceptable. I've even seen people taking weight plates out of the free weights area, further depleting our already limited resources. Hygiene is also becoming an issue. There's been a noticeable increase in small flies in the men's showers, particularly on the left side. I've reported this along with other concerns, but it doesn't seem like they're being addressed. Overall, this refurbishment feels like a step backward. The gym no longer meets my needs, so I've decided to cancel my membership and look for a better-equipped facility elsewhere.
Fantastic experience: Had a great time here with my wife. relaxing spa
Negative experience: A Comprehensive Review of Recent Gym Renovations and Their Impact on Member Experience Introduction As a long-standing member of this fitness facility, I feel compelled to provide a detailed analysis of the recent renovations and their impact on the overall gym experience. This review aims to highlight the changes implemented, their effects on workout quality, and the resulting decision to terminate my membership. The observations and concerns outlined below are based on multiple visits following the refurbishment and reflect a professional assessment of the gym's current state. Free Weights Area: A Significant Downgrade Equipment Reduction and Its Consequences The free weights area, once a cornerstone of our facility, has undergone a substantial reduction in both equipment and functionality. The elimination of several key pieces of equipment, all of which were in perfect working condition prior to the renovation, has severely limited the options available to members. This decision seems counterintuitive to the goal of providing a comprehensive workout experience. One of the most noticeable and impactful changes is the significant reduction in the quantity of Olympic weight plates. During a recent workout session, I found myself in the awkward position of having to borrow weights from another member who was using the Smith machine. This interruption not only disrupted my workout flow but also that of my fellow gym-goer. The need to exchange a 10kg plate for two 5kg plates exemplifies the scarcity of appropriate weights, a situation that should never occur in a well-equipped gym. The rationale behind reducing the number of Olympic weight discs during the refurbishment remains unclear. This decision has led to increased wait times, disrupted workout routines, and a general sense of frustration among members who rely on these essential pieces of equipment. Removal of Critical Equipment Further exacerbating the issues in the free weights area is the removal of several critical pieces of equipment: Decline Bench: The absence of a decline bench significantly limits the range of chest exercises available to members. This omission restricts the ability to target lower chest muscles effectively, a crucial aspect of a comprehensive chest workout. Olympic Bar Rack: The disappearance of the Olympic bar rack not only reduces the number of available bars but also creates organizational issues within the free weights area. Members now struggle to locate and return bars efficiently, leading to a more cluttered and potentially hazardous environment. Double Cable Machine: The removal of the double cable machine from the main gym area has had a profound impact on the variety and quality of exercises members can perform. This versatile piece of equipment was essential for a wide range of movements and muscle group targeting. Cable Machine Area: Compromised Functionality Clustering of Smaller Machines In place of the removed double cable machine, the gym has opted to cluster smaller cable machines together. While this may have been an attempt to maintain some level of cable exercise options, the execution has resulted in several problems: Limited Movement: The close proximity of these machines severely restricts the range of motion for users. This is particularly problematic for exercises that require ample space, such as cable flyes or wide-grip pulldowns. Ineffective Crossover Training: The arrangement of these machines renders crossover training exercises nearly impossible to perform effectively. The inability to achieve proper form and range of motion in these exercises significantly diminishes their value in members' workout routines. Increased Wait Times: With fewer cable options available, members often find themselves waiting for machines, leading to longer workout times and increased frustration. Also the swarms of black flys in the shower room isn't what you'd expect from a golf and country club of this caliber..!!
Positive experience: The changing rooms could do with being warmer, they are quite cold for my little boy when we get out of the pool.
Positive experience: We have been members to the leisure club for a year now. The club is the nicest in the area as there there is no competition or options around. When I compare it to our last leisure center (David Lloyd), there is no comparison DL being way better, but the prices are just as high, and they've just increased them, which is frustrating. The spa area is nice. Steem room, sauna, pool, and jacuzzi are all we kept. The classes are good but limited. The staff are nice. Some of the gym equipment is outdated. There is no family changing area. So when my spouse (male) brings his 2 little girls (11 and 7) here for a swim, he has to let them go into the woman's change room alone. Which he doesn't like doing. There are also no adult swim times. If you enjoy a pool with no children you have to go really early or late at night. The club also only gives 5 guest passes for the entire year. DL gives one a month. They used to give 20% off spa treatments to members. This year has not only increased their prices but now only give 10% discount which is again another disappointment.
