Fantastic experience: I've only recently joined but have been happy so far. The sauna could be hotter but it's fine. The bar is very good with lots of space to go for a coffee and food. The staff are really helpful too!
Fantastic experience: The club's greatest asset is it's friendliness. It's a great hub in the community, especially for older members. There is a good atmosphere and this makes the club stand out from many rivals.

Fantastic experience: Pool temperature & atmosphere is lovely, the separate male / female saunas are a lovely touch. Plenty of class options , the gym is never too busy , I am always able to use the equipment I want/need. Being able to grab a decent coffee is also a win. Staff are polite & attentive.

Negative experience: I’ve come to Nuffield Portsmouth a few times now and compared to any other ‘premium’ gym in the city this is by far the worst. The staff are incredible but the equipment and areas are very clearly dated, and require a much needed renovation. In theory, it has everything you could want but the whole experience feels striped back and lacklustre. I cannot wholeheartedly recommend this location if it’s your sole gym, there are simply better options. I can only suggest a membership here if there are other locations in the group you’re also looking to visit.

Negative experience: Sadly I'm changing my review from what was once a 5 star to a 2 star. Really sad to leave a 2 star review for a gym I once loved and saw as the best gym in the area but unfortunately Nuffield has gone so downhill I cannot keep my old review up/stay a member. I've been a member of Nuffield for 12 years and for the first 7 I felt like the gym was incredible place, it was very well run and looked after. I left during the pandemic because I moved away from Portsmouth and re-joined 2 years later because I missed this place so much. However, in that 2 years the place has changed massively. Lots of gym equipment out of service for long periods of time. The gym was moved around into areas which made no sense. The pool is constantly out of service. The hot tub is gone and the gym membership is more expensive than it's ever been. This gym is now as expensive as it's competitors but doesn't offer nearly as much as all it's local competitors. I do think it's worth mentioning that the members of staff at Nuffield Portsmouth clearly care but they're getting zero help from Nuffield and it shows. The staff at Nuffield saved this review from being a 1 star. Nuffield needs to invest in this place because it's hanging and a shell of the great place it once was.

Negative experience: Having been a member at Nuffield for several years it has really gone downhill which is such a shame! Tired looking gym, hardly any personal trainers that stick around due to the lack of support and a group exercise schedule that lacks so much. Who wants to do spinning in a non air conditioned room?

Negative experience: They just don't care. Couldn't fix my name typo, never had the jacuzzi or sauna working and when I aked about cancelling I was told to call later. Then, their advice was to cancel my debit and now I am being chased for not paying. Paying for what? Poor service, ignorance and not having access to facilities? Thanks a lot! I hope all that treated me they way they sis will get the same treatment back. Shame!

Negative experience: The Portsmouth Nuffield health centre spa is nothing like the pictures. The people running this club at the moment are out of touch with its paying Clients,the spa ,isn’t working neither is the sauna and now they have reduced a very good spinning class from 15 bike to 12 they’ve put them in a smaller room and the last 2 week the original room has been empty with people still on the wait lists,what does that tell you about how it’s being run.

Fantastic experience: It's been 8 month in Nuffield, overall I am really enjoying this gym, the facilities, staff and people are really great, I would highly recommend it.
Positive experience: Great , although swimming pool and jacuzzi is slightly colder then usually.
Negative experience: Really disappointed with Nuffield, Portsmouth. Signed up for a 7 day trial as have access to corporate membership so was looking to try before joining. The centre feel very dated with a limited gym compared to even the budget gyms around the city. The pool looked ok but was out of action due to a boiler fault. I play squash so thought I'd make use of this facility but was disappointed to learn that bringing a guest to play with me was an additional £10 on top of your membership fee... In comparison I can go around the corner to mount batten where court hire is just £5. The courts at Nuffield are dated with noisy air conditioning units. On top of the above, every time I went to use the centre during my 7 day trial I was asked to fill out the same trial form giving the exact same information... This soon got tedious. Final verdict - there are better options currently around Portsmouth so I won't be coming back.

Fantastic experience: Great tour today with Simone. She made my daughter and I feel at ease and showed us round all the facilities. Very organised gym and very calm, pleasant atmosphere.
Negative experience: Joined recently and disappointed with the equipment back from the late 90s most of which is out of order. Some members swearing in front of children. Staff are helpful however when I asked about using a piece of equipment a young lad just said he would show me if I booked an appointment with him. Some lockers are unusable. The gym in particular is desperate for investment. The reception staff are very nice, pool is decent and most of the members are friendly.

Fantastic experience: Joined the gym in the new year. Was very nervous due to the Christmas pounds I'd accumulated and the fact it was a new environment. The reception staff (two ladies) on Friday night were so helpful, kind and reassuring to myself and my partner. I truly think if it wasn't for them I'd have felt very overwhelmed and probably not felt it was a safe space like I did. Thankyou so much to those ladies!!!!

Fantastic experience: I joined just before lockdown so have only used this gym with distancing restrictions. The Gym is super clean and there are constantly cleaners around the gym and changing areas cleaning, there is sanitation areas all over the place to enable you to clean down the equipment you have used. Being a novice gym user I have relied heavily on the staff to help me use the equipment correctly and I have to say they are fab, very helpful, knowledgeable and im not made to feel like I have put them out at all, always happy to help. I have had an issue with my App, for some reason it says im not a member but the gym put me onto the IT team directly and apparently they are trying to sort the issue out but in the meantime I have been able to book swimming lanes or gym classes via the reception desk and they are all lovely and helpful! Overall I am really enjoying this gym, the facilities and people are great, i would highly recommend it.

Positive experience: Used regularly for grandsons swimming lessons. Very friendly and helpful atmosphere, even with massive changes caused by lockdown and covid procedures. Changing rooms and reception area still working bar and cafe area shut down though. Gym and pool still running.

Fantastic experience: Welcoming and friendly staff
Positive experience: It’s a bit outdated but you can tell they are trying to modernize with new equipment (minus the scale in the ladies bathroom). It has all the standard machines but the free weight section is lacking. When I was in the mat section of the gym for core strength I heard the trainer in front of me gossiping with her client about a friend. The client then broke out the phone to then show the trainer photos. They both started trashing this persons looks. I thought that was strange for a trainer who is supposed to help people with their confidence and self-acceptance. Regardless, I was about to sign up because it appears family friendly and they have a pool for the kiddos but then they sat me down with the manager to discuss memberships and she turned me off. I asked questions about the schedule and when I didn’t understand her reply and asked again she was rude, almost frustrated by my questions. They could use some classes in customer service. I won’t be spending my money here.

Fantastic experience: This is by far the friendliest gym in Portsmouth. All of the members of staff really care about the members and you can feel it every time you walk in. Loads of classes and great swimming pool and never too busy.
Negative experience: Just handed my notice in for this health club and joining another, reasons; Ancient equipment, No planned investment and Poor maintenance.I have been a member for 20 years since the club turned from The Metropolitan to Cannons. My fondness for this gym, has declined over the last few years. This gym used to be good competition for equivalent gyms in the area but not anymore. Nuffield took over a while back from Cannons, I have shown loyalty as I thought a refurbishment would be imminent. Most of the resistance machines in the gym are 20 years old or older and any "New" equipment that has been brought in is secondhand. I have spoken with 3 separate members of management and also a couple the gym staff and there is no plan for any capital investment to replace these items due to cost. The staff and local management are all a good bunch, they have escalated these concerns themselves but Nuffield head office do not see investment in their Portsmouth club a priority. There are many new gyms opening up all around this area and Nuffield is no longer competitive in this market with monthly subscriptions in the area of £40+ dependent on concession. Nuffield need to either invest or lower the monthly subscriptions to reflect where this club and qualityof facilites now sit in the local market. My wife, daughter and I all attend this gym. As a family we receive concession which means that all three of our memberships add up to a combined £100+ a month. We are all currently looking for an alternative gym, with newer equipment and better value for money. In addition to the above there is a serious problem with the parking facilities. On Tuesday 2nd December 2018 6 cars had their windows smashed by criminals. This is a regular occurrence the club and police are aware but nothing has been done to remedy. In addition an athletics track, a new gymnastics facility, a new tennis facility and new football pitches have been added. This has made the parking a nightmare as no additional parking has been provided. All of the above combined is forcing me to leave a gym that used to be one of the best gyms in Portsmouth. In writing this review I hope it will advise others of what they are buying into before committing to an annual subscription. Nuffield central management need to invest to save this club before it becomes unprofitable and sinks due to many loyal members leaving.

Positive experience: Well equiped and well laid out. Small compared with other Nuffields but everything you need is there, including cafe and sports bar. Staff were friendly and welcoming. All in all a good local fitness club.

Positive experience: When going to the gym during the day I have always found it ok. However in the evening trying to get into a group exercise class is a joke. You are unable to book a space and need to que for a ticket. Tickets are given out 15 min before the start of the class, regardless how long the que is; normally weaving round the whole reception/café area. You need to arrive 30 min before to be sure of getting a place. Opening times and classes during bank holidays are poor in comparison to other clubs. Despite classes been over full instead of providing additional classes the club axes classes from the timetable with little notice. If you are considering the club for the swimming pool beware that on a Saturday mornings the pool is used for swimming lessons and there is little space for members to use.

We are always looking to improve our patrons experience and it is feedback, such as yours, that helps us deliver better results. Regarding your class feedback, we are constantly looking at new methods in which to cater for our more popular classes. We are currently testing an online booking system at one of our sites and if this proves popular we will look to eventually extend this system across our estate. Regarding bank holiday opening times we welcome your feedback. Hours are generally restricted as the usage of the facilities are significantly lower and the labour hours saved are moved to peak times, so we can better cater for our customers and consolidate absence and illness to minimise class cancellations. When the next club feedback survey is completed we will look to review this if the opening hour’s feedback is replicated across our membership. Fantastic experience: After trying 2 other fitness centres in the Portsmouth area and not being particularly impressed , I decided to try Nuffield. I have now been there for almost a year and I have no regrets. The staff are welcoming and friendly and whilst it's not a large centre, they have been really effective with their space management. I have been to a variety of classes (Spinning, Yoga, Bootcamp) and all were taken by well trained and motivated instructors. I also like the free 3 monthly health checks which monitor key fitness metrics; this allows you to track your progress and see the fruits of your labour. Should you wish to eat there - then the food is good value and well presented. In short, a friendly and efficient club which cares about its members.
