Best Western Bury Bolholt Country Park Hotel: Opinions
Positive experience: We like coming here, an enjoyable stay. Room was lovely and modern - coffee machine, bottled water, shortbread, tea and coffee provided. Usually spare pillows are provided in the wardrobe - not on this occasion. Lovely breakfast - the only let down was the cheap brown/tomato sauce sachets - maybe need an update - even though i am an hp lover, i've had cheaper versions in hotels, nothing tasted as bad as those and ruined a perfectly good cooked breakfast. Suprising because everything else were well known brands, flora, marmite, nutella, individual jars of jam. However, we will deffo be back!
Fantastic experience: Staff went out of their way to do the most for me, making sure all my dietary needs were accompanied. Everyone was lovely, going above and beyond and made the wedding night a great success. Thank you all so much!
Fantastic experience: Couldn’t fault this hotel. We booked a family room for four people. It was clean and spacious. The beds were comfortable and the bathroom spotless. The staff were friendly helpful and professional and the facilities were superb. Would 100% recommend you book here if staying in the area
Positive experience: The hotel setting is nice. Rooms are decent and tidy enough. The staff are very helpful and friendly. Issue for me is the chef - Anyone that serves a lasagne with sweet chilli sauce poured all over it does not belong in a kitchen. Also don't cook meat and serve it on a flatbread, I don't want a soggy bread after the meal, I want to eat bread with the meal. Just use a plate and put bread on the side. Lastly, overcooked strips of chicken with tasteless batter like you'd find on a cod is not a cajun spiced chicken wing. When you can do better at home (which I easily can), then there's an issue. A professional chef should be better.
Positive experience: This is a nice friendly hotel with lovely helpful staff. Rooms are fine, but there are a lot of steps and steep staircases to access some of them. There is an excellent swimming pool and gym facility. Although close to Bury town centre, it is best accessed by car, bus or taxi. Bury town centre has a direct tram service to Manchester Piccadilly station taking about 40 minutes making this location a viable alternative to Manchester City centre.
Negative experience: Called in today on chance for a coffee....was told by receptionist to ask at bar....others were already waiting and had rang the assistance bell a few times to no avail....we sat down and waited..no appearance of any staff.....this was around 1.30pm today...we therefore gave up and left...reception didn't seem to mind no welcome greeting and defo no departure words..shame really as we were looking for a venue for an upcoming event..we will try elsewhere.
Fantastic experience: Great hotel in lovely setting with use of fantastic leisure pools.
Positive experience: Basic hotel priced as a 4 star when actually it's a 3
Fantastic experience: The room was a lovely nice sized room a lovely comfy bed. The shower was nice & powerful. The food in the restaurant on the evening & the breakfast in the morning was some of the best food I have ever eaten. It was great value for money & I would certainly recommend. Finally it was in a lovely location. Me & my partner went to the coronation street experience but wanted to stay somewhere out of Manchester where it was abit quieter so this was the perfect location without having to drive too far out of Manchester.
Fantastic experience: We thought this was a lovely hotel. The staff are friendly and helpful.
Fantastic experience: We had our wedding at Bolholt hotel last night (20/09/24). We would like to say that all the staff were amazing and very professional. A special mention to Nikita who helped make our day so special and run so smoothly. The venue it's self was beautiful and looked amazing. Thank you from the new Mr and Mrs Bright for the amazing day that we had there.
Positive experience: Yery good overall experience friendly staff
Fantastic experience: Really lovely and helpful staff, lovely food , excellent breakfast
Fantastic experience: A lovely setting for a wedding. Not to far from Bury town centre. The whole wedding package was great. Would recomend to others
Fantastic experience: Comfortable bedrooms, lots of hot water for the bath and showers. Great food amazing staff. Lovely views. Peaceful with added advantage of the leisure complex attached with wonderful pools Great time had. Recommended to anyone who needs a quiet relaxing break.
Positive experience: Clean room and really friendly staff.
Positive experience: Stayed here to attend family wedding for the weekend great hotel friendly staff and great service would recommend it to anyone to stay great night porter who was checking in guests who arrived late and was serving drinks at the bar and serving bar snacks even after midnight would go again.
Negative experience: Checkin was a disgrace. Overall a very poor stay at a very poor shabby hotel that overcharged and under delivered.
Negative experience: A country park is not in the middle of a housing/industrial estate. This is a scruffy, outdated, paper thin walled dive. Honestly don't waste your money, you'd have more room sleeping in your car.
Fantastic experience: Fabulous place, friendly and polite staff. Our stay was lovely
Positive experience: This is a good hotel on the best western scale. Food is pretty good
Fantastic experience: Very friendly and welcoming staff. Great location and excellent breakfast. We used the restaurant for a lunch party for a 90th birthday celebration fro an aunt. We were looked after very well. Thank you
Positive experience: Stayed here one night travelling home from Manchester airport (45 mins away) Lovely friendly welcome, peaceful place with nice grounds. We had a room in annexe round the back. Room was clean, quiet, really comfy bed, powerful shower, tea and coffee, iron etc. The leisure facilities are in the grounds they looked great but didn't have time to use them. We went out in town to eat (7 min drive) as the food was expensive £18 for gammon, egg and chips! You have to order in the bar then go to the restaurant when it's ready instead of sitting at the table which was odd. Would stay again if in the area and definitely make use of the pool etc.
Positive experience: Went for a wedding reception very nice setting though function room is a little small. Bar prices are reasonable for a hotel not over the top they also provided food for the evening guests was a chicken curry believe me I’ve had better at my local take away but was edible, didn’t stop the night so I can’t comment on the rooms sorry
Fantastic experience: Our room was not ready for us, we had to wait an hour. However, the receptionist offered my husband & I a complementary drink each. The staff are friendly. It was a lovely place to stay. There wasn't much to choose from on the evening meal menu. The meals we did enjoy, the are filling and well presented. The waiters are great & happy to help. We got to use the spa/ sauna & facilities. We really did enjoy ourselves. We definitely will be returning. Thank you.
Positive experience: The good: location, friendly staff, clean rooms good price. The bad: squeaky floors, bathrooms look tired with some loose fittings. Good overall, works well for my work trips.
Positive experience: Attended a wedding here. Lots of space for events . Gorgeous garden , lots of parking space. Bar can be quite expensive. Kitchen availible for caterers.
Positive experience: A nice hotel on the edge of Bury but still close enough to the town centre. Reasonable menu, not too extensive but enough choice for a stay of a few days. The staff were all lovely and very helpful - a credit to the Best Western group
Positive experience: The receptionist was lovely. Rooms very basic. In need of redecoration.
Positive experience: We were here for a wedding which was good. But unfortunately, a few of us were ill for a day or two afterwards due to food poisoning.
Positive experience: Clean friendly place , had a nice feeling to it The staff were great for information.
Negative experience: Shocking stay , rude rude guests 3 am with my daughter the hallways and rooms stink of tobacco , the noise 2 doors down could be heard as if they was in the room drunk and rude asked them to keep the noise down and be more quite to be told to f off not caring they woke a toddler , scaring and distressing her. the neighbours had a dog that was clearly getting distressed I complained to be told it’s to be expected and nothing can be done I explained I’m happy for passing noise I accept weddings I travel constantly but this was beyond bad . I felt bad as the manager is own his own functioning a bar at 3 am all guests vaping at bar my daughter is on oxygen and the halls stink of smoke. I get the man’s difficulty he shouldn’t be running a shift of a hotel on his own no security nothing especially with full house, wedding and bank holiday . and other rooms including myself getting more upset as the disturbance continued police was threatened to be called be called at first he said fill your boots not realising how rude these ladies was . He knocks on …. Again and they say they paid the room they will do what they want told him to F off too! So the manager very quickly realised just how bad they was , half naked drunk and loud aswell as rude and agressive and inappropriate . While in my room 3 doors down my video picked up them loud as day insulted my disabled daughter calling her names . The police should have been called I’m beyond upset . The bath didn’t work no cold water tap broken and hot water wasn’t hot. You also can’t reach the taps without grave difficulty as it’s blocked off due to glass not being able to open due to sink blocking anyone reaching taps and drain . If your anyone with sickness or disablilities you would struggle the rooms aren’t very clean either and far from restriction friendly . Bar staff earlier when getting milk was amazing but night was shocking the staff himself was clearly stressed and was doing the best he could but he shouldn’t be in this position for his safety and safety of the guests . I accept weddings and bank holidays but this got to the point police should have been called they was agressive and threatening coming out in underwear drunk shouting fog horn voices . I’m writing this review now at 3:15 am distraught they can’t move room and won’t ask them to leave . Even the manager threatened police if they carried on being agressive to him I respect his efforts but the hotel itself should do better . Sound proof, more staff and security . And returb . Took 10 Minutes to even find a staff the hotel looked Like it was ran by guests I’ve never seen anything like it and I have many hotel stays with family living far away . If google aloud videos I would love to be able to show the circus of tonight . I don’t feel safe here with my child with needs and I won’t be returning
Fantastic experience: Lovely 2 night stay from 26th to 28th April 2024. Room was in the old part of the hotel (previously a mill) and whilst dated it was clean and spacious with good beverage facilities and bathroom toiletries. Floor a bit creaky but to be expected in an old building. Breakfast and dinner food was good, varied menu and service was very good. Angela on reception was very friendly and helpful giving ideas where to visit and even loaning umbrellas. Nothing too much trouble. Can definitely recommend The Victoria for tapas
Fantastic experience: Nice room with a bath and shower over. Decent breakfast, but the best bit was being able to use the adjacent health club's facilities after checking out. I'll be coming back here again, I really enjoyed my stay.
Fantastic experience: The internet was very slow and not very easy to connect to The hot water was always hot very good. The bed was comfortable
Fantastic experience: Nice place, great views, plenty of parking and tasty meal at the restaurant.
Positive experience: The Hotel was clean and tidy with plenty of space the staff where French and helpful the the only let down was the finish of some aspects like filler round the light switches poor silicone in the bathroom but all in all a good experience the food was very nice the breakfast buffet is worth the money My only other gripe was the sofas in the bar where well worn and uncomfortable
Fantastic experience: My husband and I stayed here on Friday 1st March with our 6 month old daughter. From arriving the staff were very friendly and welcoming which is always and the room was lovely and clean. The hotel also provided a bed for my little girl which she slept through the night. Just before tea we visited the pool, not long after in evening I became short of breath and a couple of hours sleep I woke up struggling to breath (2am) I decided to go outside for some fresh air (not knowing the reception was manned 24hrs) a lovely gentleman called Steve was there, he instantly took concern with me and was calm with my situation. Just to add before I carry on, I suffer with Asthma and I didn't have an inhaler with me. Anyway, Steve said his wife is nurse and he's going to call for some advice. I was instructed to sit upright and take deep breaths with fresh air and to my surprise drink a hot drink such as tea or coffee (now 3am) He helped me make one and after a short while I decided to go back to my room to try and rest (my breathing was still bad) Steve said he will check in on me shortly to make sure I was OK and if I needed anything else. Come 3:30am there was a knock and it was Steve, I was a lot calmer and my breathing was improving so I needed no further help at this point. Skip to 5am I needed some hot water for my babies bottle and again. A drink for myself as I was still not fully settled, I headed to reception and received further assistance and settle back in my room Luckily I didn't need a hospital visit however it's very scary when when you can barely breath, especially during the night and away from home. I am forever greatful for Steve making me feel safe and cared for as much as he possibly could and just to have someone there was lovely. So if your reading this Steve, thank you so so so much I really appreciate everything you did that night and tell your wife thank you also. I've suffered with asthma all my life and I've not had an attack for years. And to who would have though that swimming pool chlorine can trigger asthma. Thanks you again, Jodie.
Fantastic experience: We booked a room taking advantage of the Valentine's deal of £119 for an overnight stay with an evening meal & Breakfast included. I upgraded the room as a special treat and also ordered the prosecco package for the room, and we were very pleased with how beautiful the arrangement looked when we entered the room. The flower arrangement was stunning and my wife said these are some of the best flowers she's received, so thank you very much! The prosecco was really nice too! We both had a very relaxed stay.
Positive experience: This is an attractive and comfortable hotel with friendly, helpful staff and good amenities but I am unable to rate the hotel any more highly as our room (Rm 35) smelled VERY strongly of stale tobacco smoke : a smell we were unable to rid the room of despite leaving all the windows open throughout our (December) stay.
Fantastic experience: Decent hotel with very nice staff and fantastic leisure facilities I’d have no issue in booking this hotel for future stays in the area
Positive experience: I would return to this hotel for sure and I rate it for several reasons: the staff, the restaurant and the swimming pools. We were there in winter so the outdoor space could not be appreciated but it looks like a great place especially for weddings I would imagine. Special thanks to the cleaner in the pool shower rooms who went above and beyond to help with a problem. Also very clean changing areas and pool.
Positive experience: Food was great, room left a little to be desired, was a bit grubby around the shower and no hot water for a shower
Negative experience: Looked great in the photos looked fine from the outside but the rooms looked like they last saw attention in the 90s. When checking out guest in front of me got his stay free as the bog wasn't fixed down? How bad is that, well your judgement. It just needed a refresh. Clean enough staff were efficient but ends there. Breakfast as OK, but better if it was cooked to order rather than self service as some of the things had Been sat a little longer and overcooked. Would I stay again probably not till it was done up.
Negative experience: Booked in for accommodation after an event. Warm and friendly on reception but few staff around. Nice spa and pool, but again, a little grubby. One member of staff on the bar late night which was very busy. Room smelled damp, was extremely warm, no AC, a bit run down. On our return we found our room had wasps coming in from the ceiling. Eventually moved to another room: cleaner told me this is a repeat problem. Clearly have wasp nests in the ceiling. No compensation or late check out offered, no reply to my email. Potentially dangerous situation.
Negative experience: Lovely location. Me and a friend visited today to enquire about spa days. As we walked in we were a bit lost. 3 members of staff stood staring at us and not 1 offered any help (which I thought was rude). We walked in and the same 3 members of staff just continued to stare, not very welcoming. We had to approach them and ask them questions. Highly unprofessional. I can't comment on the rooms.
Positive experience: Rooms not very clean especially the bathroom. Staff very friendly. Food good. Restaurant nice. Bar area needs updating and has an odd smell.
Negative experience: Would no recommend a stay in this hotel, outside look absolutely beautiful the inside let it down. Road up to the hotel was uneven and full of pot holes, if you have a lowered car I wouldn't tempt it. Needs a complete revamp, it's tired and not well maintained. Staff were not very welcoming at reception or the restaurant. I upgraded out room and paid almost £100 was not worth the money. If you're looking for a bed and somewhere to wash this hotel is for you, if your looking for a romantic getaways or a bit of luxury definitely go elsewhere.
Positive experience: Nice venue for a friends wedding and there was plenty of staff available to take drinks orders.
Positive experience: Good stay in the Bury area for few days. Nice parking available, Internet is fast and breakfast is good. There are other facilities which I couldnt use due to time limitation. They provide self made tea coffee facilities and have an iron board and iron. This is pretty much all u want for a short stay.
Positive experience: Nice grounds. Room was a little dirty in places but nothing major so didn't mention it. Staff were very nice and helpful.
Fantastic experience: We had a good experience but room for improvement. The hotel staff were very friendly and helpful this cannot be knocked as they went above and beyond to help us. The room was very hot even with the windows open there was no Aircon or fan in the room. We attended a wedding and found that things were lacking such as coming round only twice with the wine. If you hadn't finished your first glass then they would top up or not in my case. ( I know the package is supposed to be half a bottle per person) when asked for my top up my request was ignored. The bar staff was new but tried to charge my parents £11 for a glass of wine even though money has been left behind the bar so no money should have been asked for. The wedding food was delicious. We enjoyed going for a swim the next day at the stables after a lovely breakfast.
Positive experience: Staff friendly and helpful. Plenty of car-parking. Nice grounds, (although not as big as I'd expected) useful for walking the dog before bed. Room clean and comfortable. Loved the pool at The Stables, and the breakfast to follow my morning swim was excellent.
Positive experience: Basic but clean accommodation. We were attending a funeral as the hotel was aware but unfortunately the room was mot ready on time. The receptionist promptly found a solution to our changing predicament by offering us some nearby smelly toilets. Following inspection we kindly declined and we stripped off outside to change instead.
Fantastic experience: I stayed here for 1 night as a solo traveller. The staff are so friendly and welcoming. I ate in the restaurant... the food was delicious. Comfy bed and lovely room. Highly recommend
Positive experience: Everything was okay the room was clean and the young girl that checked us in was very friendly. Unlike her colleague, an older lady who came across rather rude and in bad mood. We have checked out 40 minutes late and when we came to the reception she didn't greet us nor asked us if everything was OK just said "Right that's £10 charge for late check-out". We have paid it happily without any comments but left the hotel with negative feelings due to her unfriendliness.
Positive experience: Good location, Rooms are very tired, or mine was, '80s decor, staff were friendly and welcoming, food is great and plentiful
Fantastic experience: Hi we stayed here last Saturday and Sunday the service was good food was good and Angela on reception was brilliant. Looking after our 4 selfs with her service and info about the town and where to go thank you angela
Negative experience: Stayed here for a wedding but would not return. It was warm weather outsite and the rooms are unbearable during summer. No aircon (!) and only a small fan. Very uncomfortable! Rooms are very outdated and shower wasnt working properly; hot water was trickling and otherwise you only had ice cold water. (maintenance came out but couldn't fix it). Rooms were also not very well cleaned. Dinner in restaurant is ok. Breakfast I wouldn't recommend. Staff is nice though!
Fantastic experience: Beautiful location, surprisingly quiet. The comfiest bed I've ever slept in. Love the option to purchase breakfast separately in the morning if you want it. Lovely bath and all you might need provided. Apparently the spa is amazing but ran out of time. Sue and Abbie on reception were fantastic. Nothing was too much trouble and the activities they recommended were spot on. I will be returning ASAP.
Negative experience: Stopping at this hotel for work and just as I was about to fall asleep I spotted something crawling out of the corner of my eyes. Lo and behold the room was riddled with tics. Obviously this being later on in the night the main reception was shut but the bar staff informed me to take everything out of my room. I refused another room as I don’t want to be faced with the same issue again. There was also another couple waiting in the lobby as they had the same issue. Only this time when they closed their curtains a “group of tics” fell out. Clearly this place has an active problem with bugs and in my opinion it either needs fumigating ASAP or full closure.
Fantastic experience: Great room, friendly staff. Great to be able to take dog with us and easy to walk there straight from room. Breakfast good variety, though eggs could have been refreshed but didn’t bother us. Fitness centre great. Would definitely visit again.
Fantastic experience: I feel bad for not giving a review sooner!! I stayed here by accident in 2021 when my birthday trips to Iceland- then glamping- were both cancelled! I was feeling pretty glum but the manager (I think) went above and beyond to make my stay amazing. We had drink vouchers and I think Manchester United were playing in the downstairs bar anyway- a much better time! Easy check in and explanation of how to use the health club next door, I think everything we needed was provided. We had lunch the next day and it was a huge portion of golf club snacks (sandwich crisps and coleslaw), well worth the price. Couldn't praise this place and all the staff here enough, comfy bed, very relaxing and such a good location, there was plenty to do and loads of leaflets in the bar. If we are ever in the area we would stay again without a doubt! Excellent value for money.
Fantastic experience: I loved staying at this hotel. Staff were friendly and the breakfast was really good. The fact that there is a gym, swimming pool close to the rooms makes it more brilliant. Enjoyed my time there.
Fantastic experience: Had a Great Overnight stay Great location in beautiful setting Fab big/spacious room (10) And the Suprise touches for our anniversary stay were Lovely , The Leisure club was great, loved there is plenty of space for both families and adults only . The food was great, cooked well .Very well fed during our stay . Had a facial/massage from Kellie at The Retreat which was Amazing. Have to mention Shirley , Receptionist. Nothing was too much trouble , I made many enquiries whether that be about rooms /food menus/leisure club Shirley was very responsive to finding the answers to many enquiries I made . Shirley is a Great asset to your team and just made our stay more perfect. We look forward to staying with you again, Mrs Bentley
Fantastic experience: Helpful and great breakfast with black pudding. Impressed with the helpfulness of the staff. We will be returning to any Best Western.
Fantastic experience: Fab little place really friendly staff very welcoming and accommodating as my daughter has additional needs :) nothing was too much trouble. Fab facilities and grounds would stay again highly recommended
Positive experience: It's OK for one night but quite expensive for a basic hotel. No shower caps in room and reception shut early so unable to obtain any and no signs to indicate where the bar is.
Fantastic experience: Absolutely fairytale wedding. I'm so happy with Katie and Nikita ad they helped me a lot through all my wedding and they were very friendly and sweet. I loved it. All. Guest were happy and food was amazing! Thanks again Grazia and Nick ❤️
Positive experience: The service was great, and very dog orientated, the staff being extremely friendly and helpful. The rooms were smoke free, but I'm very sensitive to cigarette smoke, and could smell it in the room. The decor and furniture was... dated... and the beds weren't particularly comfortable at all, the mattress bounced you around like an airbed ! That said, the biggest disappointment was the toilet paper, it was like tissue paper, smaller squares than anything you can buy in a shop, and if you're used to 3 ply tissue, this is more like 1 of those layers. Take your own :-} I think we'd booked the garden suite room, but on arrival we were told dogs weren't allowed in there, so had to go in another. Having an elderly / near incontinent dog who needs a quick exit at times, this was a bit frustrating, given that it would have been the perfect room for us. Absolute 5 stars for the service and friendly attitude of the staff though !
Negative experience: I'm not sure who is staying there but it seemed more like a squat with people coming and going at all hours of the night. Maybe it is being g used for housing. Simply awful worst nights sleep ever.
Fantastic experience: If you are looking for a wedding venue, THIS IS THE ONE! We recently had our wedding day at the Bolholt. From the second we booked it the experience was top class. The staff were so friendly and knowledgeable and bent over backwards to make our day special time and time again. Communication was regular and kept me and my wife at ease throughout the whole process and there was nothing they wouldn't do for us. The day itself was perfect. The staff were always on hand to ensure it went smoothly and without a hitch and we're friendly, knowledgeable and helpful. From the service, to the decoration and the timings of the day, to the food and the evening. It couldn't have been a more wonderful experience for us and our family and we are so greatful to everyone at the bolholt for making it so special. 11/10. The only downside is that we can't do it again every weekend.
Negative experience: I reserved a day at this hotel for my mum and dad as a present all inclusive! They went there the service were realy poor the receptionist haven't explained where they room was exactly. My mum and dad were wondering around for 15-20 minutes. Then they got to their room and it was awful it was dark old furniture no light no window the only window that was in the room was up so high you couldn't even look out . It was so cold no heating either they didn't like it at all they said they would rather come back home and get a refund. I called them and they said they can only refund me the foods price because Its not their fault that they didn't want to stay in that room I said okay then could you refund me the foods price she said yes I gave my details she said 3-5 working days that have been more than 3 weeks now it has never arrived to my bank
Fantastic experience: Absolutely superb. Room service brilliant the food is absolutely beautiful. The stables leisure centre is absolutely brilliant and incredibly peaceful especially after 5pm . I can't fault this place at all. You have got too try it. Even if you live in the area its worth it for some well needed r and r . Absolutely fantastic and great value .
Fantastic experience: This is the second time I've stayed here now. Has a good size carpark also a big carpark near the leisure centre. A warm welcome from the receptionist all info given Room was up some narrow stairs The room itself was a good size as was the bathroom Bed was very comfortable had a good night sleep Shower took awhile to get hot but was good once it was. Breakfast included with the price WiFi was good I used the leisure facilities this time the big pool was cold but the other pool was heated ,two spas two saunas and a stream room ! But if you are staying more then one night and use again there's a small charge to use it again. Evening meal was excellent good choices and brilliant value Would I stay again and recommend definitely yes
Fantastic experience: Stayed one night on a 'Dinner, Bed & Breakfast ' deal on the 23rd Feb and it was a lovely stay. Located in a residential area but once through the gates you wouldn't know. Greeted by Shirley on reception who was very friendly and informative. Stayed in room 21. It was very clean and well maintained with no complaints. Didn't need to book our meal, just turned up and our order taken. Food arrived hot but unfortunately my chicken in sauce with chorizo was very overcooked and dry and took a good chew to get through it. I didn't complain but another guest had ordered his steak medium rare and he described it as 'nuked'! Such a shame as steak is very expensive here. Maybe chef needs to check his timing. Our breakfast next morning was outstanding and one of the best cooked breakfasts I have had in all my different hotels stays. Also in our deal was free entrance to Stables Country Club and full use of their facilities which I have also reviewed in my review posts. A great stay, a great hotel in a lovely area. Will stay again. It was actually cheaper than the local Travelodge and you got all the extras the forementioned didn't offer! Bargain!
Positive experience: My wife and I, had a very enjoyable 1 night stay at the hotel. Staff were very friendly and helpful, food was excellent. Also visited the spa, which was also very good. We got the package deal, direct from the hotel, which is great value for money. We would both definitely return in the future.
Positive experience: I love staying here because the spa and the leisure facilities are so nice. I really feel spoilt there....the water in the smaller pool is so warm...I just love it. The breakfasts are good too.
Positive experience: The location is very beautiful. Rooms were good-sized. The spoon and cups could have been cleaner. You can upgrade to get a swimming pool, Jacuzzis, gym.
Positive experience: Bedroom was clean and good size. The bathroom and room is a little outdated, but functional. The communal areas could definitely do with some renovation. Friendly staff. The best thing about this hotel is the leisure club next door with pool and gym, all included in the price.
Positive experience: First time stay at this establishment. Staff very friendly and helpful. The evening meal I had was filling, as was the buffet breakfast the next day. The room was adequate but did initially have a sewage smell. This disappeared and after reporting this, I was offered another room with a free breakfast, neither of which I took. Overall, a very pleasant stay. No real ale though.
Positive experience: First time staying at this hotel. Some refurbishment was ongoing at the time, and more was needed. Some carpets had seen better days, but generally decor was tasteful and pleasant. Very quiet, pleasant location. Service was excellent. Good selection at buffet style breakfast.
Fantastic experience: Booked in for Spa weekend in December with my friend. Staff very friendly and helpful. Made me feel very welcome. Receptionist brought me coffee and biscuits whilst waiting for my friend to arrive and we had a chat. The hotel was spotless and so was our room. Good choice on the menu for evening meal. Breakfast was self serve and an array of food to choose from. Couldn't fault the hotel or food. The only thing that concerned me was the walk along the cobble stone road to the leisure club for the spa. There is a lack of lighting from hotel to the Spa. It was icey (no grit thrown down) and dark. For the H&S of the hotels customers lighting should be installed. Apart from that issue , we enjoyed our stay.
Fantastic experience: Never disappoints - friendly staff, easy atmosphere - my bedroom was just a tad too close to reception and noisy guests heading late to bed.
Negative experience: Stayed here for two nights while visiting friends for the weekend. Staff are amazing, friendly and nothing is too much trouble. The rooms have had what appears to be an attempt to update them, however the execution isn’t fantastic. The bathrooms are dismal with a shower that is unnecessarily difficult to use and there isn’t even a hairdryer which I would expect. The bed was sagging so badly in the middle and was extremely uncomfortable. The hotel holds multiple functions which unfortunately meant it was very noisy, we were woken at half past one in the morning to yobs fist fighting in the corridors, who nearly broke down the door to one of our friends rooms. There is no sound proofing and despite quiet notices in the corridors, fellow guests don’t seem to be able to respect this. The breakfast provides the standard hot and cold options and you can request additional items if you have dietary requirements such as vegan etc. the spa facilities are a short walk across the site in a country club. They actually have some great facilities and are incredibly clean. Gym, two pools, multiple hot tubs/jacuzzis and steam room + sauna. I was particularly impressed with the plunge pool which was actually freezing! Overall I wouldn’t stay again as I don’t think it’s particularly good value for the cost.
Positive experience: Friendly staff and a lovely setting for the restaurant and bar, but my room looked very tired. I searched for online reviews and found numerous photographs of cracked tiles, torn wallpaper and stained carpets. They matched my experience, sadly. However, the room was clean and serviceable, so while it was a little disappointing, it's not something that would affect my decision to stay there again. Access to the neighbouring leisure facilities at Stables was excellent.
Positive experience: I was in room 29 and the shower just didn't get hot. But other than that I thought it was great value, it was clean and very comfortable. The location was a bit obscure, and parking is a nightmare if you arrive/leave after dark.
Negative experience: Very poor value for money. This was probably a nice hotel in the 80s however they have failed to update and my how it shows. Threadbare carpets in the smelly corridors, dated decor and dusty dirty yellow lighting. Our room was small with poor quality furniture although I liked the mattress. The TV was old and small and none of the channels worked . The bath had no plug and when reception got us one it leaked from underneath appearing in the carpet in the bedroom. We complained but whilst it was noted down there was no attempt to apologise. Music from the wedding in the hotel pumped out till midnight and children and adults alike sang and screamed in the courtyard surrounded by bedrooms. Service in the bar was poor despite having a wedding event. The breakfast was nice and the dining room modern and clean. The staff were friendly and helpful. Swimming was available included at The Stables ( a short walk outside) and that was a very high standard, modern clean and warm with lots of facilities from saunas to plunge pools. Overall at £134 for two I'd much rather have stayed in a Premiere Inn. Update, after complaining directly they kindly refunded 50% of my booking fee.
Fantastic experience: nice hotel in lovely grounds plenty of walks the hotel is dog friendly we didn't have a dog with us but a friend we met there did. all the staff were friendly and helpful the room was clean and well-equipped breakfast was amazing and we made use of the spa that was attached to hotel and enjoyed a swim. It's in a great location and we will return in 2023
Negative experience: Poorly decorated, peeling wallpaper, stains on walls. All the doors in the corridor of room 52 had to be slammed to be shut . Not ideal when you have a 5 hour drive that day and another the following day. Eventually got to sleep at 12.30 am to be woken by drunk people coming down the corridor at 3 am. Very noisy, you could hear everything in other rooms, toilets flushing etc. Reception was not 24/7 as advertised. Clean but very outdated.
Fantastic experience: Was at a wedding and the place was fantastic. Staff very helpful and quick service at the bar. Tje toilets were spotless as was the rooms.
Fantastic experience: Nice room and service, nice food and axcellent breakfast, absolutely fantastic leisure centre with swimming pools and sauna. Very clean and professional staff.
Positive experience: Very tired looking motel. Uneven driveway leads to large car park adjacent to pleasant pond area. Clean and tidy reception. Our room was dog friendly but looked rather worn out. Peeling wallpaper adjacent to bed (damp?), cobwebs on ceiling, flat batteries in the TV remote and concave mattress all point to lack of maintenance and poor attention to detail. Bathroom was fine but no non-slip mats available (nearly broke my neck!). Excellent breakfast. Difficult to recommend.
Positive experience: We had a very enjoyable stay here. We were 'room only' so can't really comment on food or drinks. We stayed here to enable us to attend my Nephews 21st party. I had really hoped to go for a swim before leaving, but the lure of Bury Market was just far too strong! Not surprisingly, this place is a superb wedding venue. The location, and the grounds, make it just perfect. Our room was nice. I'm disabled, so our room was on the ground floor. Pleasant decor. Decent size. And clean. My only moan is the lack of disabled parking at the entrance. I'm on crutches, and each time we returned, had a long walk (for me!) across the car park. There was ONE space, but not much room around it, and it was always taken. We were quite impressed, and will definetely stay there again when visiting our family in Bolton.
Fantastic experience: I attended a wedding here yesterday and I cannot speak anymore highly of the staff here. Everything from providing safety pins, locating a lost earring of the brides, adjustments with meals, helping the dj with bride and grooms requests, catering for and attending to families with children with autism, noticing my sister rushing around to grab my brother for a last minute pic and asking 'is everything ok'? Checking in with the younger ones when they were playing and looking for friends. There was a little mix up with the mother of the grooms room and the wedding planner, by all accounts, had it sorted in the blink of an eye. Everyone really went above and beyond to make sure the day went as smoothly as possible. If you get married here you will be in the safest hands and so will your guests. Just a heads up! if you are wearing heels to the venue the floor is uneven outside and a little bit hilly because it is a country park venue. We couldn't find a close shop either so if your planning on drinking or don't drive make sure you remember to bring all you need.
Fantastic experience: As a venue dresser its a pleasure to work here. Great staff, very helpful and friendly. Our items are always taken good care of and its a lovely place. Thanks, Bridal Attractions.
Positive experience: Fabulous location with excellent facilities and superb breakfast. But on this occasion the room we were allocated, room-38, was directly below another room with loose creaky floorboards, way too noisy. Not quite the good nights sleep we are used to.
Positive experience: I enjoyed our stay and we had a lovely breakfast and the staff were lovely but I feel that without the bridal discount it would have been expensive for a one night stay.
Fantastic experience: I would like to say a big "thank you" to all the staff. We came for a family break and as we arrived my mother was taken ill and required an ambulance (literally from the car park.) The hotel staff were extremely helpful and considerate and organised everything in a calm and professional manner.
Positive experience: Small and truly basic in a bit of a run down area of town but the premises is nice enough although used by contractors and locals for food and pub.
