Negative experience: Always packed, very few machines for a city centre gym (literally half the floor is just empty carpet) and headache-inducing lighting

Negative experience: The gym is good but the showers and absolutely freezing!!!!
Hi, thank you for taking the time to leave us this review. We have recently made slight changes to this area, looking at improving energy efficiency. This is both to control our energy usage, but also with a look to reduce our carbon footprint. Our showers are now set at a temperature of 36C and have a flow rate of 5 litres per minute. These parameters are regularly monitored and we also have regular checks carried out on boilers and associated equipment to ensure the units are operating as they should be across all of our gyms. On occasion, we can get faults on our water system which is normal. When this happens, there is a process in place to ensure we arrange for our contractors to attend, investigate, and resolve the faults and return the systems back to full working order within a timely manner. If you believe there may be an issue, please speak to a member of the gym team who will be able to assist further. All member feedback is reviewed, and brought to the attention of our Facilities team, who regularly review any changes we make to our gym facilities and all feedback is taken into account when making any future changes. Positive experience: Had a nice late night workout. The day pass comes very helpful when your work takes you to different cities. The gym is easy to find. The gym was clean, tidy and good showers. Needs some work on the wifi, it kept stoping and taking timr to re-connect. It's next to River Aire so you can take a walk after workout.

Negative experience: Place is so hot I feel sick and lightheaded during my workout. I've complained as have others, received the same generic copy and paste response puregym have replied to someone below, who has also reviewed. The aircon has not worked in most of the gym for months if not longer. Adding a picture of the water features which are almost always on display aswell. No concern for members safety and wellness, and as you can imagine the place stinks. What an embarrassment.

Fantastic experience: First time I've been to this gym, the layout made it easy for me to find the women's changing rooms and navigate around the gym. I love how many benches there were for the dumbells I didn't really like I had to fight anymore for a space. Will gladly go again!

Positive experience: Yeah it's fine. It's a gym. You go there, work out and leave. It's a younger crowd so expect the odd competitive look if you're a guy but no worries.

Negative experience: Worst gym I've ever signed up to - the smell is unbearable. If you wish to spend your workout breathing in farts, go ahead and sign up. The changing rooms are dirty and run down and if your workout involves anything other than machines, you'll be cramped in a tiny smelly space with the next person 2 inches from you. Avoid.

Fantastic experience: Big, clean, well-equipped gym with lots of equipment so not many conflicts or traffic jams in my experience. Treadmills, static bikes and free weights all in good condition. I've visited in the morning, early evening and late evening and there has been free equipment and a nice enough vibe each time.

Positive experience: It's fine and does the job as best it can with the limited space and amount of people it has that come through. Doesn't have some machines I would have liked that my last commercial gym had but covers the basics. Peak times are mental obviously so I've learnt my lesson there. Staff seem nice and happy to help. Depends what your after. You can definetly make it work for you whatever your goals are it's just over subscribed like most commercial gyms sadly.

Negative experience: Really pushes the boundary of even remote acceptability, music and instructors obliterate your eardrums every 30 minutes when a new class begins (even noise cancelling headphone can barely stifle the oppression), the free weight section packs absolutely as many possible benches in a space which is already too small with less than a foot between benches and weight rack making it virtually inaccessible when the gym is full and deeply uncomfortable the rest of the time, weights never in their correct spot. And I never thought a gym could smell any worse than they normally do but Pure Gym Leeds bring us into a new realm of awful. More expensive than THE GYM with less space and less available.

Positive experience: I have been using PureGym for a couple of months now. I mainly go to the gym classes, however, I have recently noticed that the timetable has been changed (and in my opinion it has been for worse!). There is a lack of variety of fitness instructors taking evening classes, and the number of back to back sessions has also reduced. Also, due to the fact that less instructors are taking the sessions, it is apparent that the energy levels of the instructors dwindles as they are sometimes taking 3 classes in a row so the sessions are simple not effective if you are in the third session, as understandably the instructors are tired. Based on my experience, the number of participants in the sessions has also reduced. Please bring back the old timetable and instructors!

Negative experience: I use the accessible facilities due to my hidden disabilities and on more than one occasion in the last week staff have locked the accessible shower. There was no one around to unlock it today and I had a train to catch so wasn’t able to shower. Absolutely unacceptable when you’re paying what you are to not be able to shower. Already complained to customer services and they couldn’t seem to care less. The last time this happened the staff member who unlocked it said herself that management probably won’t action this. Avoid if disabled in any way!

Negative experience: Clean showers. Mouldy walls, floor. Would not recommend for clients with respiratory problems. Smashed mirrors protected with tape support. Required deep clean.

Negative experience: This gym has gone downhill. Most of the good trainers have left. The facilities are shocking for the past couple of weeks access to water has been intermittent or non existent. One member nearly fainted as a result.There is no consideration for health and safety of members.Neither the water fountain nor the taps in the toilet worked. The screens on the majority of the spin bikes don't work and despite mentioning this several times nothing has been done to address this. The weights area is flooded and surrounded by tape. The studio floor is coming up and there are various buckets and patches of foul smelling water everywhere. There are brown stains on the studio walls. This puregym is not worth your time especially when there are others close by with better facilities. Puregym don't care about this gym and it shows.

Negative experience: Avoid like the plague! Showers are always cold and they don’t appear to have done anything about it for the past 3 years! People have just got used to having cold showers. I use the Halifax Pure Gym and the shower temperature is so much better

Negative experience: Poor gym. No internet so can’t purchase a pass when entering. Press for assistance, nobody comes. Dread to think what would happen if there was a fire / someone needed urgent medical assistance

Fantastic experience: One of the best Puregyms I've trained in. Loads of space to walk, many equipment machines to use so no need to wait and never too busy at any point. Changing rooms decent but difficult to find so maybe some signs would help, especially if you are new to the gym.

Positive experience: Convenient for those who work in the city centre and for its size, it has enough machines to fit people in the 5pm rush. However, it usually has leaks from the ceiling that get sorted temporarily. All in all, convenient.

Negative experience: I’ve used pure gym for several years with the higher paying membership for multi gym access and my partner to use occasionally, but the main reason I used them is mostly due to the location. However, they have recently increased the price for Leeds south, for no good reason, which lead me to reviewing my experience. Currently the equipment is in shoddy state, for example several running machines post higher speeds that they are actually running at, which I verified this with my garmin. Not that I needed to because if you’re at 20km and not close to i clear the machine is incorrect. I pointed this out to a member of staff and they basically said, ‘I don’t know much about them because I don’t use running machines’, which as I pointed out is missing the point, I’m simply asking you to get someone to service your machinery so I’m not having a substandard work out. This is just one example of many, at the sheffield branch I go to they don’t turn the aircon on unless it’s blisteringly hot, and they take ages to replace damaged equipment. In addition, the staff only care about their mates, the people they want to flirt with, or specific people that pay to train with them. Otherwise you’re dead to them. All of this was for £26.99 a month, but I assume will now be £2-3 more. When I can get the same, or probably better, experience with the gym group, who I have had nothing but good experiences with in the past. Not sure why I stayed with them for so long. I’m sure they’ll have some bland response, but the reality is PureGym is owned by an American investment company, it’s lost its purpose. Which is to provide accessible and cost effective gyms.
Negative experience: Music is constantly blaring and causing nuisance and chaos to the people living upstairs.

Positive experience: Decent gym with up to date equipment and good changing facilities. The only downside to it is that due to the building size there is only one of each piece of equipment so you might spend more time waiting for the equipment you need than actually working out

Fantastic experience: Honestly one of the best PureGyms I’ve been to. It has everything you need. Would be nice if they put the sanitisation stations back, as the equipment and machines can be sticky sometimes.

Positive experience: Pros: Decent equipment given the space, not too crowded outside peak times, friendly staff, machines and main gym spaces are clean. Cons: Overcrowded massively at peak times, changing rooms and toilets really dirty/smell foul - really not worth going in, yanga sports water machine (a perk of premium membership) often not working and just gives out normal water meaning staff aren't changing the flavours when they run out, happens >50% of my visits, waste of money for a premium feature, gym music quite loud and the usual bad taste in gyms.

Positive experience: It has most equipment that you'd need and at the right times (evening) it's not too busy to do a workout without having to wait for people to get off equipment. The problem with the gym itself is either there's regular leaks, or the fact that it's underground and can be incredibly depressing. No windows to look out of, and feels very dark.

Staff undertake regular maintenance checks and work hard with our equipment providers to ensure that any issues are fixed as soon as possible. Fantastic experience: Decent gym. Good equipment, however the changing rooms smell like they are never cleaned. Not even starting to mention the toilets. People don't seem to know how to flush. Overall, love working out there.

Positive experience: good equipment and not too busy except friday and saturday two big disadvantages I pay extra money for drinks but the machine works once every 5 days the other thing the air conditioning has fallen down a long time ago and it is really stuffy as soon as few people enter the gym at the same time

Negative experience: Barely ever staffed, always leaking, closed half of the time for repairs, cleaning stations always empty, avoid if possible

Positive experience: Just too hot at the moment

Temperatures/air con in our gyms are automatically regulated by Smart machines, but if there is a persistent issue staff may be able to override it and can certainly report it to be checked by engineers. Fantastic experience: Good location. It is very big and spacious with lots of open areas. The facilities is of great variety. One good thing of Puregym is that you can have access to other gyms of them! This one is less busy than the one I always visit. My friend prefer this one for the same reason. So whenever you go you won't feel too crowded. people there are quite friendly.
Negative experience: Probably the most depressing gym I ever trained at same basic equipment for over 6 years poor variety of attachments boring sleepy atmosphere rubbish music played so low you can barely hear it changing rooms stink lockers broke and never repaired and PT staff look more depressed than the building itself. Would be good to see membership money and high £600 a month PT rent actually invested back into the gym

Fantastic experience: I was in the gym after I got a new membership I’ve been to gyms before but I was straining myself on a machine and a worker josh came up to me and gave me some advice and was just a really friendly person. On top of that this is one of the nicest pure gyms that I’ve been to

Positive experience: PTs are really friendly and knowledgeable. Great selection of machines and classes. Only 4 stars because sometimes it's really hard to find a PT to assist you or who's floor walking.

Positive experience: Too busy when it gets crowded. Machines are old and just not enough for that many people (e.g., they only have two benches to bench press). The gym has buckets here and there because of leaking pipes, the air conditioning shoots right at some machine stations (so you get chills while using them), and the gym smells bad. Cleaning stations are often out of detergent. The changing rooms are just obsolete. Dirty, small with benches so small you can't even sit. I already tried two pad locks for their lockers and none of them is the right one (you need the right thickness to prevent people could open your locker, but nobody tells you that nor they tell you which one is the right one). The room is super dirty and smells bad. Showers do not allow to change temperature and you must press the power button every 30seconds to continue the water flow. There is no shelf to hold your soap, which then must be put on the ground, where everybody walks, spits and where all the dirtiness flows in general. But it seems many gyms in town are somehow like this, thus it isn't really horrible compared to the average. Just horrible if you are used to good quality gyms, or simply standard clean gyms.

Negative experience: The weight machine is broken and still asks for money no matter what membership you have. I asked a member of staff when they gonna fix this, he said "we can't because it cost us money to fix it"

Positive experience: Great PT's, always friendly. Good equipment, generally free when needed. This does not receive 5 stars due to poor facilities. - Buckets everywhere due to leaks. - Hand drier in men's broken, many lockers broken, leaks in men's bathroom.

Fantastic experience: Really enjoy coming here, I think the facilities are great, lots of choice, staff are friendly / helpful & members are mostly pleasant...(Can't say much for the ignorant few who never learnt to say thank you when you hold a door open for them) You've done a great job with adding extra cleaning facilities. To be completely honest, it would be great to see these still in place even after Covid restrictions are completely lifted. Normalising a clean down after using each equipment would be great. P.S Any chance of sweat towels been added to the machines? I've not seen any & I only remember to get one when I show up.

Positive experience: Its a good spot in the city centre and it has great equipment however they need to sort the entrance out especially when i enter the gym and walk down the stairs there is some lingering smell i get and its awful and I don't know whether other people have noticed it. I rarely use this gym because i feel it needs an upgrade.

Negative experience: Cancelled membership on 28th August and payment was taken out 26th August but due to medical reasons i cannot attend gym this month. Was hoping to get a refund but was unable to get one. The pure South gym itself is good.
Negative experience: It's a great place and affordable but most of the time smells barely.

Positive experience: Can be busy at times like all gyms. Staff are very approachable and willing to help. Big cardio area, free weights and machines. Have never had to wait to use a machine. Classes can be pretty full sometimes
