Negative experience: * Constructive criticism * Pool and gym facilities require a revamp completely Whole site I’d say needs good exterior clean Residents should all take some pride in their outdoor areas

Fantastic experience: My wife and I had lunch at the Honicombe Arms on a couple of occasions this week whilst staying in one of the lovely Lodge's in the holiday village. On our first visit I ordered the fish and chips and I'm happy to say the Fish was fresh, flackie and moist coated in a beer batter which was piping hot and crispy, perfection! Why do so many other establishments manage to get this wrong. On our second visit my wife had a Brie and Bacon wrap which was also superb, great food, good selection of beers and friendly staff, well done guys looking forward to our next visit.

Negative experience: As it was a sunny day we popped in for a drink. We sat outside on the bench overlooking the pond. We ordered lunch too. Suddenly a large van reversed towards us from behind the bench. It came nearer and nearer and I jumped up alarmed. I told the driver I thought he was going to run me over to which he replied “alls well in the world” and walked off. There is clearly a H&S issue here. That bench needs to be moved to keep patrons safe. Vans with such an overhang need to be in a specific area, the bench needs moving to a non vehicular area. Food was very disappointing, chips had been cooked in dirty oil. The guy who came out with the food said “I nearly didn’t see you there”. I told him about the van nigh on reversing into us and he didn’t even say sorry, not a word. . Never again. Everything about this place is tired and lacklustre.

Negative experience: We have just returned from 53 valley lodge and what a disappointment. Day 1 we couldn’t enter the property because it had not been cleaned since the previous occupants. It smelt like kippers all the way through. The out door/ hot tub space looked unkept. My wife have to clean all that to make it look more inviting. We will not be returning, definitely not. We even cut our holiday short by 1 day as we all had bad throats from the damp.

Positive experience: Overall a good holiday experience, a great location for Cornwall and Devon. The swimming facilities were good and easy to book, internet worked well. The lodge we had was generally comfortable and clean but could benefit from some investment and improvements.

Positive experience: Set in a wooded green valley between Callington and the pretty market town of Tavistock. Beautifully located to explore the Cornwall- Devon border. Geared for the budget holiday market it enjoys a beautiful green environment with basic but clean swimming and leisure facilities - could do with an upgrade and investment to compete with the likes of Centre Parks. The Pub is like a Wetherspoons cheap and cheerful. Sorry folks but the food is dire no kidding school canteens deliver better! Decent well meaning people work here. However get better quality ingredients and add some excitement to the menu. Bland bland bland…. The family next to us went to Mc Donald’s to erase the memory of the food. The food was only memorable for how poor it was. The people delivering it are lovely.

Negative experience: Our lodge was OK. But the reception was not very welcoming from the park. The pool booking system was pointless. Book online, but you have to get the password from reception? Why can't I just book at reception? Then there was the matter of the outside pool rules. Rules on the entry gate, but a big sign stating use at your own risk. Pool was empty other than our 9 year old son with me watching on the side. Yes he was bombing, he's 9 and no one was there, plus I was supervising. But no, fun police were out, even sitting to supervise!!! Really? You have covered your legal duties by stating use at own risk....so let us take on the risk. Just summed up the whole experience with the staff at this place, treated like an outsider not wanted. The only smile we got was when someone came to pet our dog. Only reason given 2 stars was that the pool was clean and usable. Food was awful in the pub, soggy chips and expensive. Needless to say, will not be returning. Which is what I think they prefer.

Fantastic experience: I booked a lodge privately so can't leave my review here for the stay but the holiday park ad a whole is fantastic! Outdoor and indoor pool were great and staff member constantly going round several times a day checking chlorine levels and even getting inside outdoor pool to scrub the grime away from the bottom! The pub priced were very very reasonable.(expected to be expensive) food were amazing especially fish & chips...omg tasted beautiful

Fantastic experience: We stayed in valley Lodge 25 for 4 nights ,visiting family. Lodge is well equipped, hot tub lovely. Clean Lodge and comfy beds. Only one thing ,there was no hairdryer, 3 ladies couldn't find it. Will take one next time We didn't use the pool or gym so can't comment. The Lodge was large enough for 5 adults and two small dogs.(dogs loved the area) would be great for children here. Little shop and pub with friendly staff. Overall very relaxing stay. Want to go back next year

Positive experience: No internet service, okay lodging, old and lots of broken furniture. Pool was okay, pub was okay, not close to much, need to drive to go see sights.

Positive experience: A good holiday experience. Well decorated, equipped and very clean lodge with a great hot tub, perfect for a family getogher with 3 generations, and dog!

Negative experience: Overall lodge was cleaned and well decorated for Christmas. Had an awful experience in the swimming pool 24/12/23 at 12.30 o'clock. The pool had around 37 users including a large punjabi family of around 10- 15 people . They were very rough in the water. They were holding hand from one end to the other end of the pool and run wild, others had to leave the pool as they took over everywhere. There was a lady staff sitting on the chair but she didn't intervene . I approached her and explained why everyone else was leaving the pool but all she said was " I'll keep an eye". These people had no considerations they should have been asked to behave as they broke most of the pool rules. They were also wearing outdoor clothes leggings and shirts to swim which I didn't think was very hygienic. None of them rinsed themselves before entering the water..I feel sorry and upset for other pool users who had to leave the pool for the same reason.

Negative experience: I found my stay at the valley lodge not satisfactory for many reasons. First of many is that the lodge I was staying in, the WiFi was not working and the heating was not functioning which was quite disappointing. I felt that the lodge wasn’t cleaned well and the service was not up to the stardard that I would expect.

Hi Augustine, As you booked a privately owned lodge via booking.com that the holiday village has no control over (as we try to warn people on our website) perhaps you would be better posting this review on the actual website of the lodge you booked? That way you can warn future customers of this property without penalizing and affecting all the other lovely lodges and owners onsite? Unfortunately there are always people who will take the cheap option of booking (such as booking.com direct) and bypass the people who offer a good service and then when it goes wrong for them blame and affect the very business who you tried to bypass and save a quick buck!

Fantastic experience: We Stayed in Dartmoor 1 Hembry Meadows, Its was very comfortable and suited to our needs, cosy, well set out and full of everything we needed for our 11 night stay. The Manor itself was nice and very relaxed, The Honicombe arms is one very nice place to eat and visit, warm locals and very lovely staff , very professional and accommodating even with our noisy bunch. Swimming was nice although no Life guard was in attendance we booked and always got a slot, was lovely. The grounds were tidy and set out lovely, lots of hills and good exercise, reasonably priced too. We would happily return again or suggest if you are looking for a nice family friendly place in rural Cornwall this is it. Local to shops, plenty of pubs to eat and enjoy the area. Well worth the time and we can highly recommend it.

Negative experience: Rubbish. Complicated booking system and small pool that costs £10 for 2 people. They often cancel sessions and if you want to cancel you don't get your money back. Avoid, there are better places around.

Helen Mortimer 2 years ago

Positive experience: Swimming pools do not have disable access, nor do the holiday bungalows.

Edward Mortimer 2 years ago

Fantastic experience: Great chill out place for family's with children and families with out . 2 swimming pools 1 indoor and 1 outside , there is a small shop which caters for basic items and a pub which serve food .food is a selection of pizzas , burgers ect various beers on sale from real ale to general mass produced ones . Clean and tidy .open to non residents aswell .nice place worth a visit if looking for a quite or carm holiday ,

Positive experience: We stayed in lodge 51 and was fantastic, the owner Val was fantastic with treats for us and our cockerpoo star, you couldn't fault the lodge and hot tub,but now comes the bad points, the driveway is in need of repairs ASAP not good driving over which leads me onto the Honicombe pub we as a family went in to the pub a couple of time manly early evening for a drink well be prepared for local workers to be taking over the bar area and using foul language I had to have a word with one of the bar staff about it and the next time we went in there the same blokes were still there with a great selection of words this is not accepted in any family pub and when you see the staff standing there whilst this goes on,well I hope the management are pleased with them.

Positive experience: stopped in lodge 1 and it was lovely and cosy . Pub was good with a good selection of beers and food . The site is tidy and my only gripe is that the site seem to be trying to keep up with the state of the roads outside of the site . There's big deep potholes all over the site which should be filled asap as it makes the site look like a dump also the speed bumps are waaaaay too high unless you're driving a tractor and can quite easily damage your cars suspension even when crawling over them .

Cheri-jane Rogers 3 years ago

Negative experience: Just went for a Sunday lunch.. We were stood for 10mins before any acknowledgement for any staff then was pointed to a table and we had to look for the numbers on the tags. The Carvery..the meat was excellent but the swede was so peppery and the cauliflower cheese tasted like it was soaked in vinegar. The potatoes had no colour and were hard and we waited over 15mins each to be served at the carvery. Oh and the gravy was almost empty so was difficult to get any out. Overall experience was not very good and we will not be returning.

Positive experience: Our accommodation was very clean and comfortable with everything we needed. The site seemed a little run down in places, and was a bit out in the sticks. If you didn’t have a car to get around in I feel it would be a bit boring staying on site all the time. Other guests in neighbouring accommodation were a little selfish when it came to parking their vehicles. We only had the one car some of the other holiday makers had 3+ it was pot luck where you could park after coming back from a trip out. We had to park right at the top of the site and walk down with shopping and our bags. On walking round the site we felt that a lot of the other holiday makers didn’t stick to the 5mph speed limit. One last thing please could you invest on some proper defined pathways for pedestrians. It’s literally survival of the fittest when out walking. Thank you.

Fantastic experience: Stayed here in Tamar 4 with our 11 and 12 year old daughters, booked via Sykes. A peaceful site set quite remotely in a wooded setting, we only used the pool facilities to be fair. The indoor pool is actually gorgeous, it’s warm both in the pool and out Of the pool, it’s on a booking system which is simple, fast and efficient to use and book, I do think it’s a good idea the booking system as you can book during quieter periods, we booked 3 times following day trips out and each time there was either just us 4 with the whole place to ourself or just one other family of 3 lads and there dad. We booked the last swim times which was fairly late, after each time we saw the pool maintained man testing the water and temp which was reassuring to those with an ocd over cleanliness. There is a sauna free to use as well and it was roasting, lovely jubbly …The whole site may look abit old and out dated but it’s unbelievably clean and tidy and the few staff we did meet were all polite and welcoming. We didn’t book a cabin as we had read an awfull lot of reviews about them being damp and moldy, I can see why this may be the case as they are all mainly set in lower areas of the park and sorounded by trees and bushes towering them, we opted for the chart type upside down cottages, so glad we did. Tamar 4 was beautiful, clean, spacious, very well equipped with more than you could imagine, Wi-Fi, smart tv, Netflix, now tv, just so much to list, welcome pack upon arrival, tea, coffee all there for our arrival. We had our own washing machine, this it’s self was a bonus as wasn’t advertised so we didn’t need as many outfits really. The view from the balcony was gorgeous on an evening and a morning over looking the tamer valley. With help of the info left in the accommodation we managed to visit some stunning beaches, we toured north south and west Cornwall, own transport is essential in this area if planning days out. Busy now planning a two week stay for next year, would surely recommend this type of accommodation and stay.

Negative experience: We booked the lodge through Sykes cottages who I have also left a review with. Nice and quiet location out in the sticks if that’s what your looking for. We rented lodge 59. Inside was delightful except for a fusty damp smell which was over powering seeing febreeze in a cupboard rang alarm bells . It had everything you needed inside and a hot tub. The exterior was something that needed to be worked on and to say private rented cottages pay a surcharge to have these areas looked after for them , it was non existent . First impressions were not good .The bushes, grass and nettles were all overgrown where we had to brush nettles away from the door to get in. Steep broken and loose steps , handrails broken and rotten, and not at the standard of 1.5 metres high . Very slippery incline and not safe at all . I Would not recommend this lodge for senior citizens or people with disabilities as it’s not a friendly get to place environment for them. On-site facilities need a bit of TLC especially the parks and tennis courts. Indoor and outdoor swimming pool which were lovely and warm , but you had to book your time to swim as we got kicked out after an hour due to swimming lessons taking place, which left my grandson very disappointed. I thought this was a holiday park and not a public swimming pool as people coming for swimming lessons did not stay or live on the site as we watched them come and leave the holiday park. The restaurant was closed for the majority of our stay due to the cook being on annual leave , which was disappointing. However when we finally managed to book a day in the restaurant the food was delicious . The shop was not a shop and it only had a couple of shelf’s with very few items on offer. I have more in my cupboards than the whole shop possessed . The Bar outside space was large and clean and a great space to sit when the sun was out. Unfortunately I won’t be staying here again

Positive experience: A nice lodge and site our 2nd visit. Good location. Food not as good as first visit and not good value for money. Local pub the rifle much better both in quality and value for money. Main downside of lodge was a tempremental TV which according to mainanance has always been a problem and the WIFi which did not work despite WiFi engineers visiting 3 times and leaving us effective ly no WiFi and commenting on that this property has always had WiFi problems. Good site good holiday but could have been so much better.

Positive experience: Great place. Good.location, quiet site but with great facilities...both indoor and outdoor pool. Honicombe Arms very welcoming. We were made to feel like regulars as soon as we arrived. As a group of 7 they even managed to accommodate us for the footie. Nice place to eat too....highly recommend the mixed grill. Will definitely return.

Negative experience: If I could leave zero stars I would. Dirtiest place I’ve ever stayed at in cornwall & I've stayed in a lot of places in cornwall. We were reassured that after covid the accommodation would have a deep , thorough clean. Looked like it hadn’t been cleaned in years. There was a lot of damage in the accommodation which needed a major upgrade. There were cobwebs everywhere, thick dust on the headboards & bed frame, green mould in the bathrooms & on the toilet roll holder ,stains on the walls , dirt in the bedroom drawers ,mould on the fitted bed sheets , deep brown sweat stains on the pillows, unsafe plug fittings, thick dust on the skirting boards, black staining under the toilet bowls which I wiped off with a cloth & it was disgustingly thick, which had obviously not been cleaned for a long time. There were no numbers on the cooker/oven which had worn off, so it was guess work when using.Took photos of all the complaints which were sent to Sykes cottages who passed all this information onto the site owners who’s reply was you should have complained earlier. No apology & no offer of any sort of compensation. I would post all the photos on this review but it doesn’t give you the option , these are all being sent to Rip off Britain for the BBC program. I left behind in the accommodation my insulated injections bag , which we rang up & reported, but it was never found

Hi there, I’m very disappointed to read your review and would urge you to continue communicating with Sykes Cottages regarding the issues raised. We have some lovely lodges at Honicombe with owners who care passionately about them so your review for one particular lodge may be more appropriately placed on the site you booked it with? This will highlight the issues to potential customers of the lodge concerned and not all the other lodges. Your review doesn’t actually mention the lodge you booked and I can assure you I have personally been in the majority of the 161 lodges onsite and have not come across the issues you mention so it is very isolated and I agree totally unacceptable. As you booked a privately owned lodge via Sykes Cottages which is an outside agency offering lettings the holiday park has no jurisdiction in this matter. The reply you received will have been from the individual lodge owner you booked with and not the holiday park. We would urge all readers of this review to book direct with us (meaning that you book either by telephone or email to the holiday park) to ensure that they have the reassurance of booking direct with the site with the benefit of an onsite reception able to help should issues arise. Lodges booked direct with us are quality checked annually. Please do continue contact with Sykes and if you would like to email me [email protected] with the number/name of the lodge you stayed in I will pass this review on to the owners direct.

Fantastic experience: The village is quiet, unpretentious, pleasant to the sight, well maintained and perfect for families with little ones. The pub is way better than one would expect. The food is extremely fairly priced and big portions; the service is basic but super shift. The swimming pool is great for kids, and the pond and playgrounds are good enough to entertain the little ones. The lodges are pretty and very well organised, some even with hot tubs; ours no. 13 was really well equipped and in a great location, near the reception, pub and pools, yet we enjoyed great privacy. Nearby is a donkey sanctuary, which we didn't visit, but could come handy for other families. We went to the Plymouth aquarium and the Dartmoor Zoo, both in 30-40 Min driving distance, which were both worth a visit. There are also great pubs nearby and an handy Co-operative store 5 min drive from the village. I would recommend to visit Louis Café up on Kit Hill and Kit Hill itself for the stunning views. Tavistok offers a friendly market, cute shops, a lovely walk by the river and a fun meadows playground. We also visited Polperro, which is simply beautiful. Looe was also a good stop and had a good holiday vibe.

Fantastic experience: Impressively clean, well-appointed holiday home (Tamar 6). 3 large bedrooms so easily accommodates 6 people I expect. I lacked for nothing and the little extra touches like the makings of a good cornish cream tea left for me in the kitchen were endearing. The holiday park, despite the bank holiday, was surprisingly peaceful. However the property was advertised as detached but it is actually a semi. It overlooks a car park to the rear and the single lane entry road outside the front of the home. Despite this it still deserves a 5-star rating (the cars crawled by and the neighbours were equally quiet!) as none of it was disruptive to my restful stay in any way. In fact it made it all the more convenient to getting to the pub onsite. I would definitely take my family the next time and recommend Tamar 6 to a friend!

We visited kithill and the quarry also Merlin's cave, we enjoyed tavistok town and their market! Our family had a wonderful time! Thank you

Negative experience: We came here for a weeks holiday and stayed in one of the private bungalows. As the week went on we found problem after problem! It's smells damp & mouldy, both bedrooms had a leak and when it rained, omg, the windows became soaking wet which led to puddles along the window sill,as there is a problem with the roof, which apparently has been ongoing for sometime. Secondly, I know it says there is are swimming pools here, one In door and one out BUT we weren't allowed to use them because "the owners wouldn't" subscribe! " which upset our 8yr old grandson,it is like dangling a carrot in front of your face but you can't have it! So all the amenities that are here you cannot use so I suggest you ask before booking, we even offered to pay they still wouldn't allow us to use anything! Maintainance had to fix the toilet, tighten the taps, and altho there was a WiFi password it didn't work!! The park needs a bit of TLC it's very tired looking as online it says a very attractive park? I beg to differ! The shop is NOT a shop which closes far too early which has a couple of shelves with not alot to offer. The pub wasn't very welcoming either, so all in all very basic. We were also told that one room has a king size bed but when we arrived they were 2 doubles! One positive thing I will write is that the bungalow was fully equipped with everything you need like crockery, cooking facilities ect so on the plus side was very good. Also when you check in you can't go to the property until 5pm and have to leave at 9am! So in hindsight you loose 2 days of the holiday! Unfortunately we won't be back.

Negative experience: We stayed in Lodge 63 from Saturday- Wed this week and had the most unpleasant experience. The site itself i have no complaint about, we ate in the restaurant which served lovely food and the staff were very friendly and accommodating. The pool was lovely as were the tennis courts. The problem was with lodge 63- on arrival there was an absolutely awful smell coming from the kitchen. We logged this with housekeeping and they sent out the cleaners swiftly to try to rectify; we also looked under the plinth and found large amounts of mouse droppings. We advised the cleaners of this and to be fair to them, they were lovely and tried their best. They bleached and Zoflora'd under the fridge and admitted the smell was bad. The clean did help temporarily but after an hour or so it came back with a vengeance. We reported this again and the housekeeper (Kevin) came to the apartment and acknowledged the smell and said the fridge would have a thorough clean the following day. Again the next day, it was no better- the smell was so potent that our party were unable to eat at the lodge because it was making us heave. We reported this again and were told that the smell had been identified at the back of the fridge, it was some solidified matter and that he had authorisation from the owner to replace the fridge the following day. The next day arrived.. shock no new fridge and the smell still remained. I called the housekeeper again and asked for the contact details for the owner as we spent £1200 to stay in a lodge which to be honest was not good enough (there were other problems too, but we just let these go because we just wanted the smell sorted!) I was told I was not allowed the owners details as it was confidential, so instead I asked for her to call me. The owner, Debbie called me and this is where the real problem arose. Her attitude towards me was quite frankly disgusting, not only was she extremely abrupt and rude, she accused my party of lying to gain compensation from her, she said she stayed at the lodge all the time and there was no smell. She would not accept that there was any problem whatsoever, swore at me on the phone and told me I would not get a penny from her, baring in mind I had not mentioned any compensation at this point! She said that the house keeper had told her there was no smell (even though he had told us the smell was bad, and rhen went on to replace the fridge) and that we were liars and then she hung up on me! We actually cut our holiday short because we were unable to bare the smell anymore- and because of how rude Debbie was, I did not want to spend one more moment with my family in any property of hers. Anyone considering staying here, please avoid number 63 at any cost - or any property owned by this horrible woman!!

Positive experience: good big place chalets clean and tidy inside look a bit tired on the outside but some of them have good positions with hot tubs it's a bit difficult to find your chalet in the dark due to not all having numbers also they are not near the door they are on the eaves of the house signage around the park not very clear

Honicombe Holiday Village & Leisure Centre

Hi Gary, thank you for your review and very constructive feedback. For some strange reason when they built the lodges they placed the numbers on the back! As all the lodges are individually owned it is not as simple as changing them all but we are encouraging owners to do so and have put maps in strategic spots on the park. We take the comment very seriously though and will step this up. The main signage is currently being renewed so hopefully if you visit us again you will notice a difference.

Negative experience: UPDATED EDIT:I can see the owner/manager has changed some review responses to some customers that I mention below, I’m glad you have at-least taken some good advice there. I also appreciate your reply to my comment I made on a new account, but still I’m sure nobody including your customers wants to see you treating/talking to someone in the way you did me, even if I was a previous long term employee that left with a negative impact, your response still isn’t what you should respond to negative reviews with. And if anything your response was much more malicious than my first review was in the first place. I hope the restaurant in Honicomb Manor has improved in that sense. First off no I do not work in The Cornish inn, where you assume I now work because of leaving them a good review from an amazing meal I had there last year. I still work in the same care home as I have for the past 8years. I did a favour for Honicombe manor by helping out being a potwash last year while there was no potwash employed there at the time, and the chef did VERY MUCH give me a frozen cod fillet to put in the dirty dish water to defrost even when I told him it was absolutely disgusting and told him he COULD NOT serve it and still did. I also visited honicombe manor a week ago to speak to management, but you where all on holiday so I spoke to your reception lady and she confirmed that management for the restaurant HAS NOT changed and it is still very much Matt And Denise who where there when i was employed there, so that was also a big porkie pie:) You are an extremely rude person to deny criticism from a former employee, when I am just trying to warn your future customers of the level of hygiene Matt and Denise ran in that kitchen at the time. Bloody awesome if the food hygiene rating is good but that just means you’ve cleaned up for when your inspector came that day and the inspector did not see what I saw when I worked in that kitchen. ANOTHER EDIT: Also by looking at your other low star reviews i see how defensive you get over criticism, not taking responsibility and basically blaming your customers for their bad experience. For example the couple with a young child who came on a sunday requesting a roast and then where told they could only have chips; You really accused them of not coming on a sunday? really? And another example of the people who had preordered meals and had some confusion during eating, you have blamed them for their bad experience too. Where as a manager of a big establishment you should always think of the customer as being always right although you literally blame every one of your bad experience customers for doing it to themselves. You have belittled all customers and not responded respectfully or politely, it is not their fault they did not enjoy their experience. In Gordon Ramsays words you are too busy blowing smoke up your own arse to see the place burning in-front of you. ORIGINAL REWIEW: I’m not Sure about the rooms but i can say this much... When i worked as a pot wash, the head chef (i won’t name) handed me a frozen cod fillet and asked me to defrost it in the murky, dirty water that i was doing my dishes in. I told him it was gross and that he shouldn’t do that, but just laughed at me for saying so.The cod was fried and served. I think there is a different cook now but nevertheless...

Hello Caitie, Firstly thank you for leaving this review in your name as it clears up so much confusion. Secondly I apologise sincerely for the curt remark to your last review now I know that the review was not a hoax. As it was a name we could not recall nor could the previous tenants we were very much under the impression it was from someone who worked at Honicombe a very long time ago if at all so could not see the relevance of the review and reacted so. You mentioned it was a different chef as well so we assumed incorrectly that it had no relevance to the current team. I can only apologise if it caused offence. You were not blocked by us from the previous review but we did report it to google thinking it was from a staff member many years ago who we couldn’t identify so was unsure of its validity. Regarding the incident you describe I can assure you that we would not tolerate such practices and operate tried and tested safe methods in our kitchen. If you had reported this incident to us at the time we would have dealt with it robustly. Once again I can only apologise for any misunderstanding or offence caused.

Phase 2 of this refurbishment will include the installation of poolside showers and changing cubicles to improve the experience. Do come back and take a look.

Negative experience: Advertised on the road as serving carvery. We got there, parked. Got our very hungry one year old out of the car, only to be told that they were "only doing chips ... or cheesey chips due to a function" ... Don't advertise it then.

Honicombe Holiday Village & Leisure Centre

Hi Roger. We are pleased that your accommodation met your expectations. As we are a fairly small site by Cornwall standards we only have entertainment during main Cornwall school holidays on Monday to Fridays and do not advertise any different. Perhaps it was advertised incorrectly by whoever you booked with? If so we can only apologise but this is unfortunately not under our control.

Honicombe Holiday Village & Leisure Centre
Honicombe Holiday Village & Leisure Centre

Hi Tina. Thank you for your review. We are pleased the pub was pleasant and friendly. As we have a Tesco 5 minutes away the shop is more of a convenience store for forgotten items or some basic essentials if you cannot do a big shop right away. We are currently relopkong at what we stock so hopefully we can get the balance right. We obviously didn’t have things you need so we can only apologise and hope to improve. Please do visit again to see if we have.

Hi Andy. I am very sorry to read this. Positive experience: We were here for a week, a brilliant site, with indoor and outdoor pools, nice accommodation, nice pub on site with really good food. The main reason we chose this location (Tamar valley) is its very central for visiting basically anywhere in Cornwall. Thoroughly recommend.

Positive experience: It is an amazing place however unless you bathe in bug spray you will have wasps in your house. There is a massive wasp problem because of the type of plants that surround the holiday houses.

Honicombe Holiday Village & Leisure Centre
Honicombe Holiday Village & Leisure Centre

Hi there. Thank you for your review. I’m pleased that you liked Honicombe. I’m sorry if wasps affected your stay. There was indeed a problem with wasps last summer caused by the weather and experienced in many parts of the country. I’m not sure what type of plants you refer to as attracting wasps as the site is mainly grass with traditional Cornish hedgerows and wildlife banks. Please do come back and see us again and hopefully the wasps stay away!

Mandy Dineley 6 years ago

Positive experience: It’s a lovely place, It kind of feels like you are camping for some reason. For all the right reasons. Good facilities on site, with the pools and gym within an easy waking distance for families young and old. The Manor House is full of really lovely staff and the food has been good. The tempura prawns and nachos were a firm fav of mine and the teenagers loved the pizza. I had a few excellent gin and tonics as they have a few good choices of gins. The reason we give it a three star and not more, is because although it is really lovely, some areas do look a little tired, but only in the same way that centre parks lodges etc exteriors look a little tired, the inside of our lodge was lovely and had everything we needed, no WiFi but it was an opportunity to de WiFi for a few days. There is a shop on site, indoor, outdoor pool, a gym, bar, giant chess, pretty green area, outside seating and apparently entertainment in full season. This was the perfect place to get to so many places that we love like The Camel trail which is 60 mins away to Padstow, Salcombe, Polperro, Bodmin Jail, Looe, Fowey, National Trust properties with Cotehele really close by. We had a car, so we don’t know what the public transport is like here. We have had a lovely time in Lodge Number 3, a very easy last minute break and having The Manor House opposite has been great, it’s not noisy just cosy and friendly.

grace taylor 6 years ago

Negative experience: Stayed in 50 valley lodge, it was very clean and had everything you needed, slight problem with the colour of the water in hot tub but maintenance man fixed the problem next day. Our main concern was at the back of the lodge trees, bushes very overgrown right up to the windows which we considered a very serious fire risk and so overgrown spoilt the chance of any view. Speed ramps around the camp need painting to make you aware that they are their. We were also disappointed that the pub was closed most days until 5pm, only having 1 toilet available for the pool area and the pub is not acceptable and unhygienic, it really is a shame because if it was managed and maintained it would be a beautiful place. stayed here for 1 week in June 2019. Grace and carol from Middlesbrough.

Honicombe Holiday Village & Leisure Centre
Honicombe Holiday Village & Leisure Centre

Hi Grace. Thank you for your review. I am glad that you found 50 Valley Lodge clean and comfortable and that the hot tub issue was dealt with efficiently. There has been considerable works over the winter period to deal with the banks onsite and your comments were reported to the maintenance team immediately. The fire risk especially was taken very seriously and investigated/dealt with. Please be assured that you did not miss out on any view from the back of no 50, it’s view is from the front doors and balcony overlooking the meadow as it was during your stay. The pub does indeed open from 5pm Mon to Fri and all day at weekends, we advertise it clearly as this. Unfortunately as a small self catering site there is insufficient demand to open the pub in the day during the week, we have tried numerous times but it is unfortunately not viable. Reception does stock snacks, hot and cold drinks as well as an off license, we are also fortunate to have three local pubs serving daytime food within walking distance. I am a little confused about your comments regarding the toilets? The pub has male and female toilets open when the pub is. There is a toilet accessible to everyone in the games room. For pool users there are toilets in the indoor pool changing rooms both male and female and an additional toilet in the gym changing rooms, these can be accessed at all times when the outdoor pool is open. We have repainted the speed bumps during the last few weeks and they have signs next to them warning of a ramp as well as requesting guests stick to the site wide 5mph speed limit. Once again thank you for your review and please be assured that we have investigated throughly and acted if necessary.

Negative experience: Very disappointed with our so called cottage. Very unclean a smell that I just can't get rid of. One shower does not work, hot tub unclean and no towels provided. Not worth the money will not be back or would not recommend to anyone. 50 valley lodge

Honicombe Holiday Village & Leisure Centre

Hi Sian, Sorry to read your experience. This lodge is let via Sykes Cottages so I trust that you have reported this to them? As you did not book with us it makes it difficult to comment about a property we have no control over. I hope that the areas that we provide (facilities, grounds etc) met your expectations.
