Bude Leisure Centre

Fantastic experience: Just spent a lovely week in Bude and visited the swimming pool twice with my grandchildren. They absolutely loved it. Wave machine every 15 minutes was the highlight. Very reasonable prices and nice and warm. Highly recommend a visit on a rainy day for 80 minutes of fun. Staff nice and friendly and a very nice viewing area with seating and refreshments.

Positive experience: The pool is nice, but not deep enough for me. I was surprised that you have to pay 20p for a lockable cabin, which is non-refundable, and the establishment is not responsible for the safety of your belongings. You also have to pay 20p to use a hair dryer. It turns out that the cost of visiting is automatically increased by 40p.

Negative experience: Was quite disappointed with our Visit, we had heard good things, we were down there staying for a week and decided to go for a swim for an hour or so before driving back home after the holiday. Went to the front desk and asked to come in for an hour and was told that we were half way between 2 sessions, so despite me explaining that we would only be there an hour, they decided to charge us to 2 x sessions. So we were effectively charged just shy of £40 for an hours swimming for 1 adult and 2 young Children. I am not sure if this is a council run leisure centre but left me really disappointed with their policy. Also the pool was pretty cold. My 5 your old son had to keep going and standing under a shower to warm up. On the plus side, they liked the waves and the slide. Just felt like the staff really let the side down.

Positive experience: Great service, smiles from staff. Changing area is a bit tight so be well organised. Lockers are 20p. Unfortunately non refunded so 4 out of 5 stars.

Negative experience: Lovely staff, good gym equipment - but I think it’s really wrong that there is no AC, despite it being a bloody tin can! You’re not allowed to open the fire door to get fresh air in, as apparently this is a fire risk (surely an open door is exactly what you would need during a fire?). £40 per month to workout in a sweat box? Luckily they are able to get away with it because of the limited choice of gyms in Bude. The Gym Group in Plymouth charges £15 per month and has AC. There are apparently 1000 members at this Better gym, I’m CERTAIN that they could afford it. But alas!

Positive experience: Great facilities, however unless you are a monthly member very expensive to use.

Fantastic experience: First time of visiting, took our 6 year old Grandson and he absolutely loved it. The water was a little bit cold when we first got in but soon warmed up. Our Grandson had a great time on the flume. We will most definitely be back.

Positive experience: One end of the pool doesn’t have an end to push off, it’s a ‘beach’ style entry meaning it’s not great for lengths. Wide lanes though and occasionally they put up a board to push off

Positive experience: Seems okay enough for a leisure centre. Swimming was about average price wise. The regular waves got quite frustrating especially with smaller children. Lots of older children had zero spatial awareness for others, but says more about the parents than the pool. Changing rooms had dirty water nappies in so could do with extra cleaning. Otherwise a big standard council run pool

Positive experience: Clean and good swimming facilities with friendly staff. One slide and wave machine although this was broken when we visited. We did feel it was a bit pricey at £30 for 2 adults and 2 children.

Negative experience: Possibly the most unhygienic swimming pool. They have rolling sessions throughout the day and don't seem to clean the changing rooms/shower area, (which are definitely not big enough for the number of people). Needs a makeover!

Negative experience: Visited this afternoon. Absolutely manic. No room in changing room.Lockers in walkway so people trying to put bags in and others trying to take bags our. No room in pool at all. This I am told is controlled numbers…….Changing rooms far to small… Staff friendly on the upside but couldn’t do anything about it.

Fantastic experience: What a great facility for the public (non members) to use. We're on holiday and I wasn't brave enough for going in the sea or tidal pool during a cold April - which is where the rest of the family had toddled off to. I created an account and booked a 'swim for fitness' session - it was easy. I arrived in good time and was greeted by friendly staff who talked me through the set up. The pool wasn't too busy and was set up with 3 wide lanes for slow, medium, and fast swimmers. The temperature of the pool was just right for me for a fitness session. The showers and changing rooms were very clean and there is a poolside loo if you need it. Although the shower pressure switches need overhauling so they stay on for a bit otherwise you need to wash one handed. 20p for the use of the generous lockers, not returned after use. So make sure you put all your stuff in it or have a few coins if you need to use it more than once. Thank you Bude Leisure Centre! Just an extra note: between the locker and changing area I managed to drop my phone which was picked up and handed in. I was glad that I saw the chap who handed it in and thanked him. On reflection thank you didn't seem enough, given it's my phone and wallet these days - so if it was you THANK YOU again - star!!!

Positive experience: Lost it edge . We used go here often and haven't been for a year or so only to find the pool wasn't very warm . The showers are now useless as soon as you press the button the water has stopped and they are pretty cold to. The price has gone crazy at £8 per adult not sure we will go again .

Negative experience: Awful experience at the swimming pool. Had to deal with a very rude lifeguard, who was very confrontational and reduced my daughter to tears. We will not be coming back here.

Positive experience: If you can get in the right time, it's a great leisure pool. I used to go here when I was young and it hasn't changed much. I'm reducing by a couple of stars because the timetable doesn't encourage much fun. It's another boring lane swim for 99% of the time. I want to teach my son to swim but its all for competent Lane swimming only.

Positive experience: Nice and friendly staff always on hand with multiple on poolside ensuring everyone's safety. The water was nice and warm and a very shallow end provided so my little one could splash around safely. There is one slide and a wave machine. Only downside was how cold the changing rooms are. If they were warmer this would be 5 stars.

Positive experience: Booked fairly easily on line. Staff very helpful as our first visit. Good changing area and hot showers. Took some change for lockers. But no where on website said how much. Took £1's it was 20p. But my only issue as with others in the changing room was once you put your money in and locked the locker your money was gone. So if you forgot to put something in or wanted to come back for shampoo etc you needed more money or leave it unlocked

Negative experience: The website is awful to use, we booked for a family swim, checked the bookings after and nothing was there, no clarification email, so after a few mins we booked again thinking it hadn't gone through. However it had so we were charged twice. I have spent along time trying to get through to get a refund but with no joy, every option on the phone ended with the line going dead. Therefore we felt the only way to get to speak to someone was complete the complaints feedback form but still not heard back. On arrival at the pool we were told there were strictly no refunds and there was nothing that could be done to help. No that happy!! Other than that it was a good swim.

Positive experience: Thanks to Sue on reception for taking time to walk us through new gym facilities open for only a few months. Super addition to waterside part of facility, with top range of equipment and studio. Price seemed quite high for area for single day pass. But if local monthly DD could be affordable especially if using gym 2/3 times a week but still slightly high I think for locals especially this time of year. Maybe there could be a discounted rate for those how are Bude residents only reason I can't give facility 5* Pool open reduced times over winter so check b4 coming. Brought back some great memories of holidays.

Fantastic experience: Ok, the £10 gym price seemed pretty steep, but what you get is an immaculate gym with state of the art machinery. I like to run on the running machines and the air conditioning meant I was kept cool. The ladies in the gym who showed me around, I remember one was nicknamed 'Fluffy' because of her hair (like mine...!) were very kindly. I would definitely come back when I am in the area. Pleasantly surprised. Thanks

Positive experience: The pool used to be amazing! Would go quite a lot over summer, and take floaties in the pool. Until 2018 when the management changed and did not allow floaties. We haven't been since. The pool is big but quite basic. The wave machine makes the pool really good, and has 2 kinds of waves, one isn't as good as the other. The slide is good, but the stairs are dirty and cold. The food and drinks are amazing, but overpriced. The pizza slices are delicious, and I always used to get a smoothie. Kind of miss it, but not worth going back.

Fantastic experience: We've just been August 22nd 2019 and it was clean and much better than the bad reviews suggested. They must have listened because it was definitely clean and well run. The water temp was fine, I personally prefer it to be warmer but it's not cold or anything. Wave machine is great and so is the the slide, the kids absolutely loved it.

Positive experience: The pool with chute and wave machine are good. The showers were ok. But the changing area was awful. Might be because we went on a sat afternoon, but the floor looked like it hadn't been cleaned all week.

Negative experience: Remember going here alot when i was younger but does not seem to be as good as i remember. Water was cold and children were freezing, water slide has seen better days. Only decent part is the wave machine but you get tired of that after 10 minutes.

Positive experience: This was a little disappointing. We turned up & the pool was half empty but said it was at full capacity so booked for later. When we got back there were 4 x as many people in pool so was rammed. Particularly so, as they have the most ridiculous rule of no under 8's past the 1.3m point (about half way) so everyone was crammed into half the pool. So despite my 5 year old being a competent swimmer he couldn't do any swimming as had to stay in the play area part! Waves were fantastic tho & every 5 minutes so good fun.

Positive experience: We went on a busy, rainy, half-term day, and so did everyone else! We arrived shortly after 10 but already they were booking for the 1130 swim session. Returning at 1130 for our swim they were turning people away in droves, so we were right to be early. The pool itself is fine, has a small capacity of 70 people so never felt crowded. Changing rooms were as clean as I'd expect, but there was only one family sized one (even then, for a skinny family!). Lockers are 20p and don't give it you back. Wave machine was good. All in all an enjoyable visit for the grown ups and the children absolutely loved it.

Negative experience: Ironically named 'Better. We used to visit this leisure centre frequently but recently it appears to be run by people with zero common sense. We arrived on a rainy day expecting to queue as most people would have the same idea of taking their kids swimming instead of heading to the beach. We were told that they were short of lifeguards - no problem with this as safety is paramount - so could only accommodate 70 people in the pool. Whilst waiting to see if anyone left, we were repeatedly told that 40 people had pre-booked and would be turning up 'allegedly' at any moment. We counted a maximum of 35 people in the pool at any one time. Despite polite requests for information regarding this, we were met with a flustered member of staff who obviously wasn't receiving any support from her manager. I would actively avoid coming here again in the future. We eventually managed to see reason win out and got to swim but nearly two hours after arriving.

Positive experience: Fun with waves every 15 minutes, slide ok. Weird as everything is next to pool, (food & desk) changing rooms not very clean as they don't make you take shoes off. Communal & separate changing rooms. Fun for an hour

Negative experience: Went on a Saturday afternoon- pool had 5 people in it and was apparently full!!. I was told that staff were sick so they had no lifeguards! This hadn’t been shared on their webpage ! Also in this town in the winter there are plenty of spare lifeguards- perhaps a supply list would help!?!

Positive experience: The only downside to our visit was that it was too cold and resulted in the family cutting the time we had there.

Positive experience: We went when it was really quiet so we had free run of the place. The waves are great fun and the flume is just the right size for small people and bigger kids will also find it fast enough to be fun. Everywhere was clean and tidy and there is an onsite coffee shop but for spectators to have a sit and a cuppa.
