Our comment from FitFit UK about Glasgow Club Gorbals:
Glasgow Club Gorbals offers a friendly and welcoming environment with an excellent range of facilities that cater to various fitness needs. Visitors have praised the helpful staff and the availability of new gym equipment, including cardio machines with multifunctional screens. The club features a variety of fitness classes and has a well-kept swimming pool that is a favorite among users.
Many users find the pricing to be very reasonable, especially considering the access to both the gym and swimming pool for a monthly fee of ~£30. Booking classes and facilities via the app is convenient, and the cafe is noted for providing good refreshments.
Although the center has some great amenities, several users have pointed out issues such as cleanliness concerns, particularly in changing areas, and the fact that the sauna has been out of order for an extended period. Some have also mentioned that it can get crowded during peak hours and reported difficulties with accessing equipment. Despite some of these complaints, Glasgow Club Gorbals remains highly recommended for anyone looking to maintain a healthy lifestyle.
Services, Machines and Guided Classes
Glasgow Club Gorbals: Opinions
Negative experience: Lazy staff , unprofessional, hear staff swearing constantly in the gym. Swimming pool , never have the appropriate lanes up placements a deep clean. Filthy, dressing rooms ceilings falling apart.
Fantastic experience: Friendly staff, and gym equipment etc are good. Plenty of classes to cover your needs.
Fantastic experience: New machines, generally clean (as much as a gym can be clean), usually enough space (maybe not between 5-7, but otherwise good). Friendly staff. Just sad the sauna is not on anymore.
Fantastic experience: Mainly using the pool. Not the most modern facilities but they absolutely do the job and it’s extremely good value for money for ~£30 per month for pool, gym and classes. Booking is very easy via the app. Absolutely recommend!
Negative experience: The gym equipment is amazing but the actual management, volume of equipment and vibe of the gym is completely off. I switched to the gym at this facility because it’s local and easy for me to get to but I’m considering changing again. You can never get the equipment when you need it and honestly there are far too many children in this gym too running around treating the place like it’s a playground. Upon my last visit there were children literally running around like the place is a playground. There are always paper towels lying around because people don’t know how to throw them in the bins and the equipment racks are never arranged. I’ve also had to change my fitness routine at this gym because there is some equipment missing from this gym which was available at my last gym. Consider saving your money and trying out one of the many city centre gyms if you’re only signing up to use this one gym in this one location. You’ll get a better experience at the likes of Gym Group, PureGym and The Club Gym in the city centre.
Fantastic experience: Great choice of equipment, with most of it connecting to your apps, cardio equipment with multifunctional screens. Rooms for functional training, plenty of classes, courts that can be booked, and a nice double pool. The cafe ain't too bad either for coffee. Staff is very friendly. Amazing price vs offer
Fantastic experience: New in town, the crew were friendly, welcoming and the atmosphere homely. There are lots of options to choose from swimming, dancing, tennis and them weights. I have some reservations on the revision process for international clients like me, had to pay more cos I don’t have a UK card. Aside that I will give them 10/10.
Fantastic experience: Cheap and we can several activities
Negative experience: The swimming teachers are veryyyyyyyyyyyy strict
Positive experience: Large fitness center with wide range of amenities for the members. Vending machines and a coffee shop makes it better
Negative experience: No sauna even though there is pictures of it all over the web. They say they haven't had one for 4 years, but haven't updated their website. So I will do my part at updating it myself (with this review) to hopefully save to next person wasting their time aswell. Apart from that seemed like it had a good gym and pool etc.
Thanks for taking the time to provide your feedback. We’re sorry to hear about your experience and any confusion caused. Our new website was designed last year and doesn’t contain any images or reference to health suites. If you’ve come across something that might suggest otherwise, it would be really helpful if you could point us to the page in question. We’d be really keen to investigate and ensure everything is accurate. Thanks again for bringing this to our attention.
Positive experience: Need more 18-40 year-olds to participate in Swimming and Gym memberships
Fantastic experience: Very good gym with lots of equipment and would highly recommend the functional training classes they are some of the best classes in any of the Glasgow clubs and Julie Mcinnes is one of the most friendly helpfull members of gym staff always happy to talk to me to help me with my issues
Fantastic experience: Great pool and is always empty
Negative experience: I'm not satisfied, whirlpools and rooms don't work, so it was better and you could at least play somewhere
Positive experience: Would've been 5 Stars if the Changing Room wasn't the size of a cupboard. It felt like getting changed in a jumped-up broom closet. The gym itself and the range of machines are really good.
Fantastic experience: Staff are very helpful, always found the facilities to be well looked after, really enjoy using the pool.
Negative experience: Kinda rude/cold staff (2 of the receptionist) and dirty toilets. Gym equipment is good but limited.
Fantastic experience: Excellent gym with loads of amenities & friendly staff
Fantastic experience: Best club Friendly stuff
Negative experience: We went about 11am and couldn’t believe how dirty the pool and surrounding area was won’t be going back.
Fantastic experience: I play football here every Sunday. It’s a really nice environment to be in
Positive experience: Excellent leisure pool with gentle shallow end which is great for young kids.
Fantastic experience: Brilliant body pump class today at 12.30pm!
Fantastic experience: Lovely fresh mint tea ,and bastila msaman soup all delicious ❤️
Fantastic experience: I went to the Easy Exercise class & it was excellent. Was a good workout.
Fantastic experience: Friendly staff, great gym class instructors.
Fantastic experience: Older, unfit man just starting out trying to get a bit fitter. Staff are always really nice and helpful, which puts me at ease
Fantastic experience: I was impressed with how helpful and friendly the staff were when i went for my induction and was shown around and always someone about if you need advice a very friendly atmosphere too.
Positive experience: Swimming pool closing for refurbishment from 8-Apr-24 for 3 months.
Fantastic experience: Great and the staff were friendly and helpful.
Fantastic experience: Very clean and well operated. Everything you need for everyone needs for their fitness journey.
Fantastic experience: Glasgow Club Gorbals is excellent! The facilities are modern and well-maintained, with a great selection of fitness classes and equipment. The staff are friendly and supportive, creating a welcoming atmosphere. Perfect for anyone looking to stay active and healthy. Highly recommended!
Negative experience: ridiculous all over, it's a joke of a swimming pool, hostile environment. staff full of judgmental looks, place needs demolished and rebuilt
Fantastic experience: Is what it is, the kids love to swim so does the trick. Only negative is the flumes and jacuzzi aren't working apart from that great wee place to swim.
Fantastic experience: Gorbals is a place, a pool and a parking lot. We have been here Many times, each at basically the same time. There are people in this building but there are no alien's or fish
Negative experience: I'm disappointed by the current state of the facility. The lack of proper cleaning is evident in the mold-ridden showers and overall grime in the changing rooms. This needs to be addressed immediately.
Negative experience: Pool freezing, too many in aqua class, who blatantly were not booked, got hit in face with the water weights, as degenerate participants who are at back of class, throw weights to try to get them into basket at front of class someone is going to get a real sore face or other injury, class instructor needs to warn class of throwing of objects
Positive experience: EDITING THIS AND ADDING A STAR AS ITS BEING REFURBISHED AT MOMENT- SO FINGERS CROSSED ISSUES ARE SORTED!Swimming pool, showers and changing rooms need properly cleaned. Mould in grouting and black mould in showers. Used to be better looked after. Can understand if lack of funding but this is basic stuff.
Negative experience: Good place, but charging £20 for an hour of a tennis court is way too much!! This my score. The problem is there is no other covered court in Glasgow, which is nonsense!!
Negative experience: Disappointed! Trying to book my children for swimming lessons for years now and they keep saying they don't have any spaces! When one of my sons had his lessons through school so clearly they have spaces but they wouldn't sign him for next block! Staff has no clue every time you ask them simple questions and keep sending to their website where you can't find any info. Swimming coordinator for Gorbals swimming pool doesn't reply to emails. I have sent several emails and so far they have all been ignored!!! Shambles
Fantastic experience: I visited Club Gorbals while on holidays and it is very well fitted out for training. But what I liked equally as much was the friendly vibe of the place. Typically when you go to a new gym the only people who might talk to you are the staff, but at this gym, I was basically treated like a local, even if half the people I talked to couldn't understand my accent. And at only £6 per visit it's an absolute bargain.
Negative experience: I have been at swimming pool on Sunday 1st October. There was few foreign women with lots of children. Definitely they broke all possible rules (leaving the diaper on the side of swimming pool, had more than 1 non swimmer child under 4 years old, using line for playing instead of swimming and not listening to lifeguards at all). Reception should count every children before let them in because this threatened the health and life of these children.
Fantastic experience: A tremendous facility. Great cafe, with lovely staff. Fun for everyone whether gym class, swimming, badminton, spin class or tennis.
Positive experience: It’s decent and alright. The cleanness could improve a bit, but overall as a community sport centre, it’s great!!
Negative experience: the carpark was full due to surrounding buildings using the leisure centres carpark...my husband has a disabled badge and could not get parked in tge disabled bays due to other non badge holders using the bays...we had an altercation with one of these drivers who we asked to move who replied...no..no other spaces and she was late for class
Fantastic experience: Good gym. Bit busy around 5/6 but other than that it's fantastic.
Positive experience: Water slide and artificial waterfalls are not working and the deepest part of the pool is less than 2 meters but it is wide. Other things are ok.
Fantastic experience: Brilliant value if u have a membership
Fantastic experience: Whirlpool is great for the kids. Need to get the flume on tho as was off the last 3 times I've been.
Fantastic experience: Staff always friendly and can always get parked
Negative experience: It's mad how you can jump into a pool Full of people. But you can't use a sauna with around 4 maybe 10 people ☹ But a you can go to a private GYM and You's a sauna. That also has to obey the Law. . Well I'm off to a free sauna. It's called loch lomond .♂️
Positive experience: The swimming pool is ok but nothing special. Quite small pool. The slide did not work, the showers are a pain.
Negative experience: Having booked online as members for swimming we arrived only to be told the pool was full.then we were offered a place in the next session when we got inside we discovered that the pool was unavailable for half of the session because there were swimming lessons going on in the main pool.WHY.glasgow council encourage people to join this club and when we try to use the facilities we can't even on a Saturday
Positive experience: We often get hung up on “the gym experience” and I was told by a friend to avoid the ‘council gym’….they were wrong the Glasgow Club is a good service and Gorbals is a cracking gym, busy but not rammed, good range of equipment, excellent help and you can always hit the pool after
Negative experience: Paying maximum prices for minimum swim time is not ideal. No kids area, no longer than an hour, you might aswell go private at this point because there's nothing special about this place
Fantastic experience: Good badminton court, they also have huge tennis courts. Friendly reception
Fantastic experience: Staff are outstanding and it's a super family friendly pool
Negative experience: Took my toddler because i thought there baby Pool would be great but when we got there the baby was closed has been since covid unsure when reopening the big Pool was extremely cold everyone was cramped into the one area the best part was the cafe wouldn't recommend going with a child
Positive experience: Amazing gym especially the treadmill that comes with screen access to various different types of entertainment. Could benefit from more weightlifting machines.
Positive experience: Normal place like any type of GYM. So there's a lot of equipment to practice on
Positive experience: been in pool about 3pm where temperature is nice when I go at 6pm the pool is cold and i think it's to get u to leave early cause they are closing soon. Bloody freezing Glasgow club sort it out
Fantastic experience: This is a Glasgow cancel Sports Centre has swimming pool as well as I fitness gym has got tennis court indoor and badminton court also have a cafeteria very nice place clean I will highly recommend it we've been using for over 10 years now for tennis especially indoor during the winter
Positive experience: I go there swimming, mostly very good but it could be cleaner and lockers are broken
Positive experience: Looks amazing if I ever went to a gym. If u want to pay to go lift stuff up n put it down save money and go shopping with my wife.
Negative experience: The gorbals leisure centre is very poor a lot of the equipment is broken in the gym. The swimming main pool is only working sauna and jet pool are out of order. It is difficult to book for lane swimming. This is very poor when you are paying a lot of money for membership.
Positive experience: Fully equipped gym. Good indoor badminton court
Positive experience: Best gum and equipment I've used in a gym for such a low monthly fee.
Positive experience: My experience is related to the Gym so far , An amazing staff ,very helpful. Plenty of space , hoping more equipment keep coming in , it's already excellent but it can be more improved. For me personally it's a safe place for relaxing, be focused on myself and build my body in a healthy lifestyle.
Negative experience: Still having to book in advance. Receptionist also had an attitude on the phone.
Positive experience: The tennis courts are good and covered for all weather and well lit and has fans to ventilate it when hot, but gets a bit too warm at times. They have a trainining ball machine as well. The tennis lessons are good and the coach is great. They have kids and adult lessons and ladies only sessions. It is a great fun experience. The gym is great and has many many machines. The other indoor courts are ok not big.. But the surface is good and is always clean. The classes seem very popular and good music is used. The swimming pool is ok. Half the of Olympic size. I particularly do not like the 1 hour swimming pool booking. The deep end is not deep at all so is very safe. The water slide never used it but when it is open it is quite popular.. Some staff are very helpful and knowledgable on services. Some not so helpful. The changing rooms are small but okish.Toilets ok at times are broken. all in all a good place. The area is not great so at times you may bump to uneducated people that may annoy.
Negative experience: Disappointed as only big pool available and that has to be booked in advance with only a short time allocated to you. Also run swimming lessons but that stops others from using the pool altogether. And not worth the price at all unfortunately
Negative experience: Turned away during the summer holidays with the kids for swimming. Covid restrictions have been dropped and still you have to pre-book.
Positive experience: Staff very helpful swimming pool excellent but most of leisure side closed. Very disappointing for a toddler.
Positive experience: Amazing range of services at fair charge. Very supportive staff as well
Negative experience: Chill water in swimming pool. Even after request to increase the temperature of pool water as my little one was shivering, staff declined it saying they can’t control it. I believe no one cares
Fantastic experience: I have been member of this club since few months. I found this club amazing. Staff is really good and attentive. They keep upmost hygiene and maintain cleanliness. It has plenty of activities with really good fitness sessions. Highly recommended if you want to build a fitness routine. I always get positive vibes.
Fantastic experience: Today was my first visit and I really enjoyed it. The gym instructor that I seen was very knowledgeable and he was very welcoming. I will 100% be back.
Fantastic experience: Glasgow Club is a great place to work out. The staff are so friendly and helpful. I have recommended it to my friends.
Fantastic experience: Kids enjoyed it but we have no consistency as leisure spaces are limited.
Fantastic experience: My man has an app he using for the gym to get his fitness back up its great the staff are friendly and very helpful and professional ️♀️
Negative experience: Not so friendly club for Badminton lovers. For Badminton , they keep on misinterpreting the policies for badminton users and new rules on the name of covid, whereas every rule policy and guidelines are exempted for lawn tennis ground user. There can be 16 peole at the same court at same time without wearing masks or following social distance , but not 5- 6 people together in Badminton court. What a hypocrisy...
Fantastic experience: I like it. Plenty of equipment for a woman. In the mornings and afternoons not so full. It is quite clean. Some of the coaches are very helpful and help better than others with equipment and you can ask for a program. There is body composition measuring 'thing'. It measures your fat percentage, muscle mass and other things. It is inspiring to see changes.
Fantastic experience: We took our grandson so he could go for a swim and got him booked in no problem from 3 till 4. Only big pool open. Take advantage soon, if this covid gets worse a everything may be shut.
Fantastic experience: I enjoyed the experience doings group's &getting to getting to know other people & the team who run the place, I think its a good place to be in recovery for me...
Fantastic experience: I have been a frequent user of the gym here for a few years and I'm happy with my membership. Staff are usually friendly and helpful. Good showers. Lockers in the changing room are great without need for padlocks or awkward keys with plenty of room, enough for full motorcycle gear. Used the courts and swimming pool on occasion and been happy with the process. Gym kit is fantastic, great selection of machines and free weights. 4 squat racks mean you can always get on one rarely having to wait long. Staff could be more vigilant to keep on top the small things. On occasion, paper towels and provided spray run out. I mention it to staff who are usually happy to help, sometimes I've left nearly an hour later without them being replenished. Cleanliness can be an area for concern, I've mentioned to staff and emailed about especially concerning displays of poor hygiene which don't get addressed, some lockers in the changing room have been dirty for months. The lack of an operational sauna is very disappointing considering the recently installed one is determined too expensive to run. It's the main element making me consider leaving Glasgow Club for a gym that offers one. I am so happy otherwise I'll be staying for the foreseeable.
Negative experience: Recently rejoined this gym after returning from lock down. Unfortunately some of the staff are rude, bossy, pushy and generally unpleasant. This may be driven by the lack of investment or money at this time. The automatic doors are broken, meaning you have to queue to get into the gym and locker rooms. Generally I'm very unhappy with this total lack of customer experience and will be taking my money elsewhere. Good luck Glasgow club. X
Fantastic experience: Clean and modern facility. Had an introduction session today with Sharon who was great. Knowledgeable, fun and encouraging. Definitely recommend this gym.
Fantastic experience: Great gym! Ever so helpful staff. Very well organised. Very comfortable friendly environment to work out in. Highly recommend!
Fantastic experience: A well run facility,,staff are very helpful..
Positive experience: This place is very nice , the pool is nice and clean and the staff our very kind. I recomend coming here however its very far and im a kinda sketchy area but overall fine.
Fantastic experience: Had a great session today with Eileen at the easy exercise class. Let's hope they continue without any issues.
Positive experience: Great to back for swim and will be good if we can get back to a normal world so I can get my baby boy along with me. He loved swimming as a newborn and not been for over a year cos of bloody covid. Bring on the sauna and jacuzzi cant wait !
Negative experience: zero atmosphere .zero people skills by staff .not worth the queuing up and £13 for tennis .no chairs for a rest between sets .
Fantastic experience: Operating under still fairly tight restrictions, the staff are still very helpful.
Fantastic experience: Enjoy doing my workout on cross trainer good start to the morning
Fantastic experience: Wonderful, staff are most helpful and friendly. I only use pool so cannot comment on any other areas.
Fantastic experience: Really well looked after by the staff during visits. Glasgow life have worked hard to create a safe work out environment. Before gyms opened I thought there was no way I’d be going back as I know folk that are fit/healthy that have been really and I know folk that have worked flat out in intensive care but I feel safer in the gym than I do out walking about in town amongst all the numpties who think two metres is two millimetres. Love working out again and can see my wellbeing and fitness improving. Would be great if we could access lockers though now that brollies and rain jacket are needed if you don’t travel to the gym by car
Fantastic experience: nice enough, equipment is ok. Peak hrs it can be super busy so best going as early as u can
Fantastic experience: Good, spacious has nice changing rooms and toilets are clean usually
