Our comment from FitFit UK about The Falmouth Hotel:

The Falmouth Hotel, located on the stunning seafront of Falmouth, offers an iconic historic atmosphere combined with stunning views and a charming ambiance. Guests frequently rave about the

  • beautiful location, just a stone's throw from the beach and town center, making it an ideal spot for both exploration and relaxation.
  • friendly and accommodating staff who strive to enhance guest experiences, often going above and beyond to ensure comfort.
  • delicious food, particularly highlighting the breakfast offerings, afternoon tea, and rates that offer good value for the location.
  • spacious rooms with a lovely view, making for a peaceful stay, although some reviews have noted a need for updates and maintenance in certain areas.

Despite the overwhelming praise, some reviews have pointed out areas for improvement:

  • services being inconsistent; during busy times, guests have experienced delays and sometimes unresponsive staff.
  • the need for renovations, as certain rooms and communal areas show signs of aging and could benefit from a refresh.
  • breakfast service
  • cleanliness issues noted in common areas, needing more attention.

Overall, The Falmouth Hotel stands out for its prime location, dedicated staff, and the historical charm it retains. While some operational aspects require attention, the hotel is well-loved by many and exhibits great potential under its new management.

Positive experience: Where do i start ?? On many occasions over the last year we have visited the Falmouth Hotel and enjoyed an excellent meal. On 17th December we decided to treat our good friend to your Festive Lunch. On being seated in the dining room we noted it was not very warm. This initial disappointment was a pre cursor of what was to follow. The soup was served without any accompanying roll and butter. The salmon tartlet lacked any salmon and was completely overcooked. Our guest ordered the rillette which was dry and unappetising. We were told the "local fish fillet" was hake but when served it was a fillet of salmon which one of us did not want. This was returned to the kitchen and a fish & chip alternative offered resulting in a delay to one of the main courses. The fish served was nowhere near your usual standard. The bowl of mushy peas was more like pea soup. Our guest ordered turkey. Everything on the plate was overcooked. The parsnips looked like charred wood. The accompanying vegetables were barely warm and were lacking any serving utensils. We had to ask for gravy which took another five minutes to appear. All plates were cold and the food served was barely warm. The deserts were equally disappointing. The offered reduction in the bill did not compensate for the embarrassment of bringing our guest to what should have been an enjoyable treat.

Dear Sandra Whieldon, Thank you for taking the time to share feedback, please accept my apologies that your recent experience did not meet the high standard we strive to deliver and that you have previously enjoyed with us. Your comments on the food and service are disappointing to read. Our brigade of chefs prides themselves on their quality and consistency. On this occasion it would seem the levels of quality were not reached; I have discussed this with the chefs, and they would like to pass on their apologies. I am concerned for the miscommunication regarding the ‘local fish fillet’, I can appreciate the confusion and inconvenience caused. While I am reassured that a reduction was offered on the bill, I acknowledge that this does not make up for the disappointment you felt. Please be assured that your comments are taken seriously and all issues raised will be addressed with our team. Your feedback is most gratefully received, and it is only through guests such as yourselves that we can strive to not only maintain but exceed our standards and your expectations. Thank you again for bringing this to our attention, I hope we can welcome you back in the future to provide you with a more positive experience. Kind Regards, Fi, Guest Relations Manager

Fantastic experience: Great experience, lovely Victorian hotel Beautiful views from the bar, beach just across the road Pet friendly, staff was great to our pug. Breakfast was good, very tasty scrambled eggs. Pool area not so appealing, didn’t take photos as there were other guests… pool smelled too much of bleach. Sauna was good though.

Fantastic experience: A classic hotel. Recently taken over by local people who will shower it with love. The former owners let it slide. But even though there is much work in progress the hospitality is brilliant, food excellent and the overall care second to none. The focus is all about those using the hotel or its other facilities enjoying the atmosphere.

Negative experience: Awful birthday treat aug 2024. Waste of money far too expensive for a very tired run down shabby dirty furniture, dangerous carpets and a dining room with poor service and a really terrible menu. We actually went out and had fish@chips. Not good at all, and beware if someone has learning disabilities and can't eat certain things because basically they could starve to death staying here. Far too expensive for what's on offer which is not a lot. Only positive is the views. Do not mind paying top dollar for executive sea view rooms if they are of a high standard. Will not stay here again. Have left more detailed review on trustpilot.

The Falmouth Hotel
The Falmouth Hotel

Dear Ann Quillin, Thank you for your review following your stay in August, I’m sorry that your stay with us didn’t meet your expectations, especially as it was intended to be a birthday treat. I’m concerned to read about the issues you encountered, from the condition of the room to your experience in our restaurant. Please be assured the points highlighted will be addressed, your constructive feedback is most gratefully received, and it is only through guests such as yourselves that we can strive to not only maintain but exceed our standards and your expectations. I am especially concerned that the dietary requirements of one of your party was not appropriately handled by the team. This is unacceptable, I will be sure to share this review with them, and additional training will be provided to ensure all guests’ needs are met with care and sensitivity. I appreciate you don’t wish to return; however, I hope you’ll reconsider. Having only acquired The Falmouth in May, we have an extensive renovation schedule and I’m sure you would notice and appreciate our improvements. I’d be happy to hear form you directly, should you decide to return. Kind Regards, Fi, Guest Relations Manager

Negative experience: I recently stayed at the Falmouth Hotel, and it was a highly disappointing experience. The lift was extremely **smelly**, and the water cooler at reception used **glass cups** that seemed reused, raising concerns about hygiene. The **room itself had a musty, humid odor**, which made it unpleasant to relax in. The toiletries provided were also very basic—just **shampoo, body wash, and soap**, with no conditioner or any premium items, which was surprising given the amount we paid. **Breakfast was below average**, with no buffet option; you had to order, and the food quality did not justify the high price. Additionally, there were **no basic amenities** like toothbrushes, and I was woken up at night by someone banging on another guest’s door. Overall, the service was poor, the hotel was overpriced, and the experience didn’t live up to the cost. **Great boast, very little roast**. **Not recommended.**

The Falmouth Hotel
The Falmouth Hotel

Dear Qais Zahoor, Thank you for sharing feedback, I’m sorry that your experience did not meet your expectations. Firstly, I apologise that you noted an unpleasant aroma, this isn’t the standard we strive for. Thank you for bringing this to our attention, I’ll ensure this is addressed by our housekeeping team. We provide chilled water for our guests’ comfort at reception, we feel glasses provide a much nicer experience and of course are more environmentally friendly than throw away paper/plastic cups. I can assure you that once used the glasses are removed and replaced. Sorry that our complimentary products fell short of your expectations. Additional items such as toothbrushes are readily available at reception and can be provided upon request. Sorry if you were not aware of this. I’m sorry you were disturbed by noise from another hotel guest. We strive to maintain a peaceful environment for our guests, it remains a shame that not all guests behave in the respectful manner I would expect. I will liaise with our head chef and pass over your feedback regarding the buffet style breakfast. Plated table service breakfast has proved very positive with the majority of guests. However, we’ll continue to monitor feedback in this area, I appreciate buffet style is still a popular choice. Thank you for comments, I'm sorry we are not the hotel for you. Positive experience: Stayed for one night at the Falmouth Hotel. Built in 1865, the hotel is dated and tied. Grade 2 listed so a refurbishment would be difficult. My room was a "compact double" and was exactly that. It just about passed to an average standard, although the bathroom smelt damp and I had to leave the window open. Breakfast service was painfully slow order breakfast and you will probably get it for lunch. Staff were very good but if you're on a business trip this probably isn't the hotel for you. I wouldn't go back.

Dear Kevin Jones, Thank you for taking the time to provide feedback following your recent stay. As new owners since May, we aim to breathe new life into this wonderful historic building. Please be assured we have an on-going refurbishment plan to restore the hotel to its former glory. I’m sorry your breakfast experience was lacking; we have recently changed from a buffet service to a plated breakfast service to enhance the guest experience. I’m sorry if this change slowed service a little. Our team, through guidance and training, will soon be delivering a seamless service. Thanks again and hopefully you’ll return and be able to enjoy the positive changes implemented. Kind Regards, Fi, Guest Relations Manager

Positive experience: Stayed in one of the hotels lodges. Great view and off road parking. The Lodge has 2 spacious bedrooms and 1.5 bathrooms. The open space lounge /kitchen area is a good size. It looks very bare, not 1 local picture on the walls. No welcome pack with local information in, found the Wi-Fi code by accident. Ate in the main hotel one night. Service was good, food was fine. For the money I would have expected a little more.

Samantha Fowler 1 year ago

Negative experience: Whilst this hotel has a beautiful location, and is benefiting from large investment into the fabric of the building, basic customer service is not just lacking, but completely absent. It is wasteful to spend so much on the refurbishment when you can't even spend a little on training the staff to provide a basic level of service. We paid £250 for one night in an 'executive sea view room'. I've attached an image taken through the dirty inside pane of glass. The outside glass was impossible to close, so it was lucky it hadn't been a cold night. The room was dank and foisty smelling, with decor befitting the late 1990s (not antique, just old). The carpet was worn and rippled with poor quality and age, the sofa and chair felt dirty, the dressing table mirror wouldn't stay in a position where I was able to see....and the WiFi was incredibly poor! The location is of course stunning, but it just doesn't excuse the price right now. We asked to order breakfast in our room due to my companion's disability needs and were told we needed to pre-order the night before, so we did. The appointed time arrived the next morning and no breakfast. 15 minutes later we decided to call down to reception, and 20 minutes after that, they finally picked up the phone. They put me through to the duty manager who called me the wrong name and told me they'd already sent breakfast up, but named a different room number! By the time we actually received our breakfast it was over an hour after we'd requested it for. Luckily we had snacks with us to allow medication to be taken, but it just soured our experience further. The breakfast was disappointing, the cooked breakfast was not a patch on a premier inn breakfast, not the greatest of comparisons! Dinner the night before had been burnt, but when asked at checkout if everything had been OK, this was refunded. It honestly wasn't about the money, or having a refund, we wanted the experience that we had expected. We were woken at 12.15am by the smoke alarm going off, and this was the least frustrating part of our stay. There are no room service menus in the room, no information packs in the room, it's very difficult to get hold of reception, and quite frankly, with a wedding booked in, we felt like 2nd class guests.....which would be fine had we not paid £250 for one night in what felt like a forgotten and run down smelly care home room! I have been chasing the events manager for weeks to arrange a meeting during my visit, but her inability to return calls or emails meant that this was not possible. Having spent a frustrating and disapponting night in the hotel, I'm now confident that my retreat guests would not think the service sufficiently valuable for the price charged, and we shall continue looking elsewhere for a venue. This is a double shame because we spend over £50k a year, and fill out of season quiet spots. The hunt for a hotel with service befitting the charge continues.

Dear Samantha Hussey, Thank you for taking the time to share feedback following your recent stay. Having acquired the hotel in May this year, our aim is to breathe new life into this historic building, and we are enthusiastic to start a new chapter. As you rightly mentioned we are already investing in the fabric of the building, and please be assured we have already employed many more staff throughout the hotel. Through guidance, nurturing and training I am confident that the result will be engaged staff who are happy to provide genuine hospitality and service. Aspects surrounding service and guest communication clearly need addressing. Please accept my apologies for the delay in your room service breakfast and for the detrimental affect this had on your experience. I appreciate you brining these issues to my attention, your feedback is most gratefully received, and it is only through guests such as yourselves that we can strive to not only maintain but exceed our standards and your expectations. Our dining arrangements are under review and changes are to be implemented going forward. These changes will ensure that hotel and wedding guests all have the same positive experience when enjoying the hotel. I will highlight your review to our Events Manager, please accept my apologies for the lack in communication. Kind Regards, Fi, Guest Relations Manager

Manuel Gericota 1 year ago

Negative experience: The hotel is on the seafront, in the middle of a beautiful and well-kept garden, a 1-minute walk from the railway station. The city centre is a 15-minute walk away. The hotel is in an imposing but old building needing urgent restoration. The deterioration is evident in the doors and windows. Certainly, it has been a luxurious hotel in the past, but it is very run-down and poorly maintained. The room was spacious, with a splendid view of the sea. However, the furniture in the room is old, not antique, and needs restoration. The floor is carpeted, including part of the bathroom next to the bathtub. The same was true of the large bar, with various sofas that looked like they had come from a second-hand furniture sale. The cleaning service was a bit sloppy. On one occasion, even a packet of disinfectant detergent was left forgotten in the washbasin. The same goes for the breakfast service, where the choice is limited, and there is little or no replenishment. During our four-day stay, sometimes there were cold cuts, sometimes not, and the same happened with the fruit salad. In short, it's simply not worth the money. The price is exaggerated for the level of service and the quality of the interior space, both in the rooms and communal areas.

The Falmouth Hotel
The Falmouth Hotel

Dear Manuel Gericota, Many thanks for taking the time to share your feedback, I am so sorry that the overall experience fell short on this occasion. I’m delighted you appreciated our wonderful location on Falmouth’s seafront and acknowledged our well-manicured garden. I’m sorry that several areas were lacking. We’re delighted to have taken over The Falmouth Hotel in May. Our aim is to breathe new life into this historic building, and we are enthusiastic to start a new chapter. We are aware that some general maintenance and attention to detail was allowed to slip prior to our arrival. Over time these will be addressed, and improvements made to enhance the guest experience and restore this beautiful Victorian building. Since your visit, our breakfast offering has been service has carefully reviewed and hot breakfasts are now fully plated to order direct from our kitchen. To include eggs benedict and smoked salmon to name but a few of our new additions. Thank you for choosing us, I hope you’ll consider a future stay, where I’m sure you’ll appreciate the work and improvements made. Kind Regards, Fi, Guest Relations Manager

Positive experience: Breakfast was an interesting affair we had to book a time to eat on check-in. The breakfast choice was quite good but the cooked English breakfast didn't have baked beans A couple of annoying upsets during service we had to wait for the butter and orange juice to be replaced as they had run out. Had to ask for a tea spoon for the coffee. Had to ask for the cup to be replaced and the napkin as they were both dirty. I have to say that the staff were really nice and couldn't fault their friendly demeanor from reception, the bar and breakfast, my only real criticism is that breakfast service imho needs to be better managed to ensure essentials are always there and cutlery is clean. I loved the period features of this historic hotel, and would be great to see it fully restored back to it's original Victorian splendor. The location is perfect for beach and town access. The WiFi was excellent with speeds in excess of 100Mb

Positive experience: Disappointing 2nd visit to this hotel. Stains on carpet and sofa in room. NOT a place if you don't like dogs-booked a table for dinner in the restaurant and shown to table but dogs at adjoining tables. Dogs allowed everywhere and as a result and as a result whole place felt unclean. Obviously only rated 4 stars due to range of facilities available and not quality of stay. Shame it's not as good as our first stay.

Bjorn Helge Amundsen 1 year ago

Positive experience: I was aware this hotel is old but was expecting a lot more for the prices charged. Hotel reception staff was very friendly and accommodating. The room I was given was of very poor standard and clearly in desperate need of modernisation. Bed was OK, same with pillows and duvet. Carpet in the room felt dirty and clearly had not been shampooed for a long time. The bathroom is a walk back to the 1960's, nothing has been done. Breakfast room was adequate at best, chairs and tables stained and old. Most tables wobbly and would benefit with some TLC. Cooked breakfast was fairly good but seemed very hit and miss, the quality of bacon and sausages was changing. When you stay for a long time a bit of change would be good and a decent continental option should be available which was not the case. Staff seemed unorganised at breakfast and several mornings it was late before it was ready. inconsistent with juices and milk, several times it was not chilled. The BIG positive with the hotel is its location, wow what a view and it's such a shame the hotel doesn't live up to the prices. With the new owners I strongly believe this hotel can be turned around but it will require big investments in the property.

Negative experience: Stayed at the Falmouth hotel for 2 nights. Didn’t eat or drink there other than the breakfast that was included. Location, was brilliant and the views were fantastic. I imagine back in this hotels hay day it really was an incredible place. It was a very average breakfast at best and the rooms for the money honestly were poor. I think I paid £350 ish for 2 nights. I would say it’s probably worth £80 per night including breakfast. The hotel is very dated and in serious need of renovation. Which in all fairness to them the amount of scaffolding outside definitely looks like they plan on improving it. I did pay for a ‘sea view’ which when we arrived and looked out the window there was no sea view, just a scaffolding view… however I’m not upset about that as it’s my fault I didn’t read the reviews. However, with the amount of scaffolding out the front, perhaps they shouldn’t be charging the extra for the view in the first place? The staff were fantastic and welcoming. The location was idyllic. The hotel just needs a lot of renovation for it to be worth the price it was. However I did enjoy my stay and Falmouth is beautiful. I’ll return, just to a more modern hotel.

Fantastic experience: Rainy day and out with friends so bobbed in for a drink. Said we could take dogs in, too, so a bonus. Very reasonable prices, will be going back as on our hols.

Negative experience: The hotel is really dated. Lounges and general public areas are in poor upkeep (stained sofas, rusting benches etc.). The room we stayed in was single glazed, you can hear noise from the corridors and bathroom drain smelt. In addition to all of these the service received from the reception (in particular from one female receptionist) was appalling. All interactions with her were not met with any smiles or the Cornish hospitality we had been accustomed to. Sadly given the location of the hotel and its history it could have had amazing potential.

Oliver Woodford 1 year ago

Negative experience: Stayed for one night in late June. Location is good and close to Gylly beach and the town centre. However our room was very dated, hard mattress, and in need of a lot of TLC. The woman and check in was also quite stand off ish, never smiling or providing a warm welcome. We asked for a few things during our stay and felt like it was an annoyance to her rather than showing hospitality. Overall pretty poor and would recommend elsewhere.

Negative experience: Stayed at the Falmouth hotel for 4 nights during the sea shanty festival The hotel overlooks castle beach and the views are lovely, however that’s where it all ends, unfortunately as other comments suggest this is a very dated hotel, crumbling walls, threadbare carpets etc Our room was situated on the 4th floor, supposedly a disabled friendly room, but did not have a walk in shower. The room itself was large but the bathroom was dated and the shower was not cleaned properly and the drain was blocked with hair, I complained to reception manager and it was bleached but had no further apology from the manager, we paid £80 for our small Cockapoo to stay with us and the breakfast was underwhelming, had to ask for bread, fruit and yoghurt daily, 1 day I was a few minutes late and was told by a young waiter I was unable to have the breakfast, everything was still available and I questioned this, but was told he had been told by the manager not to serve as they had a busy lunch ( it was 10-05) We paid £750 for the 4 nights and was truly disappointed I would not recommend this hotel, another couple were complaining as we left

Terry rodel 1 year ago

Negative experience: We travelled down for the sea shanty festival and to our cost found out why the only rooms available were at this hotel.the room was £160 for the night. I did not get a wink of sleep as the bed so unable and small. You couldn't walk round the bed as the room was not much wider than the bed. It's. The room is only fit for a single bed such a shame it looks amazing from the outside but so tyerd in side

Anna Czyż 1 year ago

Positive experience: The bar has a fantastic view and can surley recommend it. Absolutely the best scones with clotted cream ever. Food is also worth recommendation. Unfortunately, the Sunday Roast experience was a big failure. The restaurant was almost empty, yet we waited a whole hour to be taken orders. The waiter brought wine first and didn't even open the bottle when we were 3 girls sitting. After another 40 minutes, they informed us that one of the 3 served meals is unavailable. I could write a whole page about the experience of how many mistakes were made with just one Sunday Roast, but the manager telling it's our fault that the food was late as one of our guests came late, was a cherry on top. Especially that the guest that was late and ordered last got the dinner first, and it was already cold when the rest arrived.

Positive experience: My partner and I stayed here.We were treated by a family member. The room we stayed in was very small. We were at the back of the hotel.Im sure some of the room at the front are lovely. The hotel is a beautiful building and when it first opened must of been truly magnificent. Now its in need of some maintenance. The staff were really nice.

Fantastic experience: we stayed in one of the lodges for a long weekend, amazing views of the sea, parking is good. popped over to the hotel in the evening for a drink, staff behind the bar were lovely and really chatty. lodge was clean and tidy, 2 balconies and plenty of space for 4 of us. enjoyed it so much that we are staying again next year.

Fantastic experience: Ok, full disclosure is that I have not actually stay, yet, at this hotel. I screwed up the reservations and there were some issues by my own doing.. and Liz at the front desk was super kind and accommodating over the phone. So much so that I feel I needed to leave a review even before staying at the hotel.

Negative experience: This place is abysmal, all you have to do is read all the other 1 star reviews on here to grasp what this hotel is like, terrible waiting staff, breakfast is a complete no go can't cope with more than 4 tables before they run out of glasses and plates, came down today and the toaster has packed it in after being on its last legs for the last week. The rest of the hotel hasn't had a revamp in a decade, the carpets are all pulling up every where you look, the cabling in this place would fail any proper check, they tell you they don't change your room every day when you check in, this is clearly a money saving tactic. Definitely DEFINITELY not worth the £250 a night price tag they put on this place stay well clear! As I was sat in reception last night there was another woman complaining about how much a disappointment this hotel was and I can say I fully agree with her, cannot wait to leave!

Negative experience: I stayed at this hotel with my partner in July 2023. If I could give the hotel 0 stars I would but sadly it won't allow me! The room cost around £250 and we would have got better service in a £50 hostel. It was terrible from start to finish. I complained by email and letter to the management, but to date have never received an acknowledgement or reply. You may notice that they only reply here on good reviews, never for any bad ones.... Which there are many, which says it all. This is a summary of what we encountered. Book here at your risk! We were originally refused from booking an evening meal in the restaurant, as the receptionist informed us the restaurant was full. This was untrue as there were only 20 diners and no-one else turned up whilst we were there from 7.30pm. They had run out of most of the items on the menu. Service was non existent, especially the wine waiter who just dumped an unopened bottle of wine on the table with 2 glasses, then walked off not to be seen again. Desserts took 20 minutes to be served after being ordered and we had to eat these in the bar, as they wanted to set up for breakfasts. The bar shut at 10pm, despite people drinking. The room was very dated. It was a windy night and draft was blowing through constantly. Breakfast service was non existent and the one member of staff present was very rude. In summary, the level of service we received was virtually non-existent and appalling to say the least. The staff had absolutely zero customer skills and treated us and other guests very poorly. It was such a shame, as I had upgraded to the ‘Executive Double Room with Sea View’ at considerable cost, but the level of service was worse that you would expect at a McDonalds!

Negative experience: Falmouth Hotel ☆☆☆ room 411 Expect a 3 star and you won't be disappointed, expect more and you will be, (i'm not a snob but do expect a certain standard for £200 a night) sadly its dated & in need of a full referb not stayed here for 10 years and sadly remember why . Superior sea view on the 4th floor and we had a dog with us, large room and bathroom, although high up the net curtain in bathroom didn't reach the bottom on the window sill with apartments directly to the side it wasn't the best view for them , I felt you could be seen by those walking in the garden as well but won't ever know for sure. Bath had rust around the drain and imprint of Bath matt on the bottom of Bath, over Bath shower it's the first time I've been away I've actually not wanted to go in the bath, plenty of lovely hot water and lovely and warm bathroom and bedroom, heating worked a treat, slippers and dressing gown in room, shower gel body lotion shampoo all supplied, flannels and shower caps lovely , in the bedroom the curtains were actually tawn and perished literally falling apart in my hands, brought this to the attention of the receptionist on front desk who apologised and said she would report it, (nothing done about it during our stay feel for those who arrive next tacky cheap and dreadful but stunning 30 years ago) plenty of coffee tea in room and biscuits , furniture outdated , TV available , we checked in with our dog and she had a pot treats left for her in the room and couple poo bags no bed or water bowl, (£20 extra a night for dog) we couldn't find an outside bin in the garden grounds, walked to sea front where we found a bin to dispose of dog bags. Lovely garden area but a long way from the 4th floor last thing at night to let the dog out. Resturant had no atmosphere but the food was very tasty and well presented , well done kitchen , please be aware if you book for breakfast and evening meal all inclusive food, you will find you are given a £25 voucher for your evening meal so the full 3 courses are not included anything over the £25 has an additional charge added to bill, the bar person was busy doing plenty of jobs , staff friendly and helpful, and one at breakfast so happy in his job he was singing at 8 a.m , and did wish my husband to have a good day mate ! . I was also disappointed no coffee was available to order after 8.30 p.m , chairs sofas in lounge were in need of a deep clean. Beautiful sea view and this is what you pay for I guess, we visited 28th December for 2 nights and sad to say we won't be returning in the future , good luck to the hotel and hopefully a windfall of money can set it back on track and up the grade of stars . I would rather pay more and receive a more pleasant environment, and overall quality . . Car park available and parking also along seafront Road should the car park be full. I don't usually leave negative feed back but sadly on this occasion its required, along side the small amount of positivity.

Negative experience: Terrible stay here. Huge event so hotel guests definitely not a priority. Noise all night from the music and party goers in the corridors. Not all the facilities available. Sauna not working, bar food unavailable due to the event. Rooms and furniture shabby, old and mismatched. Seems to very well past it’s best and verging in grotty. Sheets embedded with hairs and everything a bit musty. Check out staff completely uninterested in helping. Worst place we’ve stayed at in the UK. It needs major investment or to drop their prices as it’s not worth the tariffs charged. Great location and easy parking but otherwise can’t recommend.

Fantastic experience: A great 2 night stay in a dog friendly room. Fantastic sea view….. breathtaking. Lovely spacious room, a little dated, but clean and comfortable. Dillon made the booking process easy over the phone, very friendly. We didn’t know it was a buffet breakfast on booking, which isn’t to our taste, so the receptionist very kindly contacted reservations who put our bill back to room only. Pool and jacuzzi were lovely and clean, and a nice end to a relaxing stay. We had our boat at the harbour so this hotel was a great location too. Lovely grounds and a beach just across the road.

Negative experience: DO not stay here. Check in staff not at all friendly when checking in. Did not even get up of chair to greet on arrival. Booked a sea view room. Awful Dirty filthy windows. Very poor quality. Room awful. Bed shabby. Mattress dipped in middle. Squeaky floor. Jacuzzi is not usable due to over use of chlorine. Could barely breathe. Pool was freezing. Hotel has a green policy that means they won't clean room or change towels or toiletries for duration of visit. Checkout was again rude. Did not even ask how was the stay. Bar staff in evening asked if I wanted a drink while I sat in lobby, When I said no he walked away and made a massive burp. Disgusting behaviour. Staff don't seem to have any leadership and no training Clearly this was a hotel with pride in its day but this has fallen into disrepair now. DO NOT STAY HERE. Room 208. Check in 23 check out 25th August.

Positive experience: Full disclosure: I am a high-maintenance sort of customer. You may want to read these comments in that light. Point 1: this hotel met all our expectations for a short-notice 5-night DB&B break. The staff are lovely and always helpful and the decor is good everywhere it matters, with evidence of continuing investments in refreshing the public spaces. Point 2: potential to do better! I think that 4th star need not be far off. Here are my suggestions for improvement: 1. Micro-signals of "class": we book the restaurant for its stunning views. Having them hindered by beer-sponsor parasols is a real eyesore. Having paper napkins and transport-café cruet let the excellently executed cooking down. Service was sub-silver (stainless steel?) service level, eg little clearance of cutlery and glasses between courses. Of such small touches, an impression is gained, and they are easy wins. 2. Excellent standards of cooking, unimaginative menus. Having booked half board, I personally was disappointed to see the nightly menu vary so little. Honestly, I wondered if it was pub-plus at times. Not even gastro-pub. Here, I add a genuine complaint: we were not informed when booking that "DB&B" only allows a £25/head dinner "allowance". Only about half the eventual price! I investigated a rebate to downgrade to B&B and take chances outside the hotel, but this was refused. Must do better. Let chef have her/his head! And sell local produce! The absence of sea food offerings, for example, was surprising. 3. Staff under pressure. Often the way, but we experienced 3 large catered events in 5 nights, plus 2 coach touring parties. The evidence of strain on resources was there and it's often the individual residents who take second priority. One to watch out for. 4. Keep it a "destination", not a "base." The gardens are *beautiful*. Why spoil them with tacky picnic tables and the aforementioned beer-branded parasols? This is not a Wetherspoons. I suggest sun-loungers, deckchairs and upgraded parasols and that bar/garden vibe could keep the punters spending all afternoon! Seriously, these are suggestions for *improvement* not complaints and our overall experience has been very good. We will hope to return (if you'll have me!)

Positive experience: The hotel is a beautiful old building but in need of some TLC. The room was in the small size (although very high ceiling). The pool was good and fair gym. Dining facilities ok, but the bar closes early for a hotel bar. Staff and service were great, and the location is first class - half way between the town and nearest sandy beach.

Positive experience: After reading previous reviews, I was sceptical but I've really enjoyed my stay at the Falmouth hotel. I opted for a budget double so was not expecting luxury but I was pleasantly surprised. The room was clean and spacious with a lovely light bathroom. The location is great with wonderful views a stones throw from the beach, and the staff are friendly.

Negative experience: Great location but the food here is not good. We tried the restaurant and the bar brasserie food and had breakfast. The food was not as described on the menu for 3 out of 4 of the restaurant dishes - sesame seed bun instead of brioche bun, missing poppadoms, and pine nuts. The chicken curry was like tandoori baked chicken with no sauce and the salads lacked dressing. Breakfast coffee pots were so weak they're easily mistaken for tea! The rooms were ok but a bit small for the money. The rooms were freshly decorated but still had knocks and scratches on some furniture. We had fun working out how the light switches were wired! But the location is the best and the lounge area comfy. Staff friendly and open to comments.

Fantastic experience: We recently went to a dinner dance at The Falmouth Hotel. My wife is a coeliac and had previously contacted the hotel to arrange for a gluten free meal to be organised. Nothing was too much trouble. On the night, by her name on the table, gluten free was highlighted in red and that gave her confidence that her meal would be fine. Every waiter or waitress that served her double-checked her food at every stage and she ate and thoroughly enjoyed a fantastic meal and celebrations thereafter without worry that she might be ill. Grateful thanks to all the staff for their diligence and we had a fantastic night.

Negative experience: My review is solely on the fitness facilities. I have recently just renewed my membership thinking that things may have improved since I was there last. Unfortunately it hasn't, the sauna has been out of action for over a year and still is, the jacuzzi was broken today but they were working on it, the pool was chilly which is fairly frequent but if you only want a swim it's OK. The gym however still only has one running machine the other broke some months ago and I was told it was going to be fixed, still waiting. There are no rowing machines but there are two cross fit machines and two bikes. The changing room is always cold and beyond tired but it is always clean and the staff friendly. It is disappointing that the prices have gone up but the facilities have gone down.

Negative experience: At one time, The Falmouth would have had charm, appeal and grandeur. Now, I’m afraid, all that’s left is a faded, slightly dingy, vaguely depressing tourist hotel with a pretty view of the sea. The cracked and missing mosaic floor tiles, the threadbare carpet, the magnolia-coloured walls covered in scuff marks, the wi-fi that doesn’t work, the strangely-angled bathrooms and hard beds add character, yes. Character, but they don't add up to a very comfortable stay. The staff remind me of attendants at a home for the elderly — continually smiling and trying to keep the guests (mostly of a certain age) happy and calm. All in all, staying here is an experience I can endure...once.

Negative experience: My wife and l booked the hotel restaurant for our 50th wedding anniversary with twelve family and friends. Without going into all the details and faults which are many they said the booking was wiped off the system but they had the details of our room booking this was booked for the 10th March back in January . We were squeezed on a table, no elbow room also l was ask my name and room number twice by the so called waiting staff who never layed the table with condiments or wine glasses etc. we were not offered a drinks menu we had to ask for everything you would expect trained staff would do automatically , then when we finished our meal and some were leaving the table we were shouted at by a young waitresses from across the room with who's paying the bill ,so embarrassing and totally unprofessional, my wife was nearly in tears all evening and the experience ruined our celebration totally. When l asked to see the manager I was told not available , then a little while later after being fobbed off by a very young supervisor, the so called restaurant manager came to see us who just said she was sorry, but she should have checked the table was prepared like any other restaurant I would have thought that was standard restaurant etiquette I know nothing will be said or done about this so thank you for destroying our evening . It was totally unacceptable. If the management (if they can be found ) want further details my room was 211 and my contact number should be on file

Negative experience: The general manager took actions to compensate my parents and stated various actions that are being implemented so this does not arise again as follows: Here at The Falmouth Hotel guest feedback is at the core of the Hotel’s Operations and we appreciate you taking the time to share the experience that was not a pleasant one, naturally not happy to learn of what transpired. Following up on your detailed report, I have now shared all the information with the relevant Head of Departments for remedial work to be put in place to ensure that service is at its best all the time at each given stage of all our guest stays  and  visits. I would like for you to keep coming to stay with us at The Falmouth Hotel and I hope that these one-off incidents do not deter you from continuing to do so. I would also like to share that we have started our enhancement and refurbishment project from the inside out of rooms and all our event spaces to keep in line with all guest expectations and preserve The Falmouth Hotel’s history as a grade II listed property. Furthermore, a robust continued training program for the staff, for all departments,  will bring the needed touch-up to all guest’s needs. As I have just taken over as the new General Manager moving to Cornwall from London, I find that this project will enhance all our services moving forward and I am well vested in it as it will revamp and change the narrative. A very disappointing evening!!! Parents 50th wedding anniversary 10th March which was booked back in January. Arrived to find we were eating in the Terrace not the normal restaurant which was not set up for meals at all. The Terrace was uninviting, very cold, bland and usually used for breakfast. Did not feel special at all. The table was set up for 10 not 12, no wine glasses, no condiments. Not decorated in any was to make it feel special. I questioned why 10, to be told that was the booking. I checked name etc and asked for the table to be made up to 12 and to decorate it with some "50" confetti I had bought. When returning to be seated the table had not been decorated or anything added to it! Placed our food order, to be asked more than twice what name we were booked under. On asking if a problem they said no. We then asked for the manager, to be told they were working! Umm yes, well come and sort out the problem. We were never asked for a drink order or given a wine/drinks menu. A while after food order, was then told no garlic mushrooms or enough fishcakes which we had ordered. On receiving the starters was not given/offered bread and one had soup! Surely this is serving etiquette!!! We had to ask for bread but after this other tables were offered bread basket. Had to ask to order drinks. Had to ask for empty glasses to be taken away. The restaurant manager turned up to say that our booking had been "deleted" and the table we were at was for a pre-wedding party of 10. We explained the issues but we felt she did not grasp that it was my parents 50th wedding anniversary which they will never get back. I said an offer for wine would not go a miss and offered 1 bottle! We are so disappointed with the evening. When main meal arrived we had to ask for steak knifes. These are normally put on the table at time of order. Again serving etiquette. Other people there were complaining. Overall the food was lovely, although the belly pork had 2 small new potatoes cut in half! Having got married there, attended weddings and Christmas parties, we will not return. My parents were very disappointed and even though booked a room for the night and stated their 50th wedding anniversary, it failed to follow through to the the meal. No proper managers that night and the following morning. They even got a 5 year old to write a card for them - note the Mr & Mr and surname spelt wrong. When you are constantly called "my love" by someone out of school so annoying. Incompetent staff in need of proper training. Will not be recommending. Plenty more hotels to make a special event feel special so avoid here.

Negative experience: Went for a swim, pool was quite cold, changing rooms freezing to the point grandchildren were shivering. Pool area not monitored hence teenagers allowed to run amuck, diving, bombing, screaming, we left. Thought to get a hot chocolate in the bar to warm up unfortunately these arrived cold, after being served by a disinterested staff member with a constant sniff, I didn't take his apathy personally as he served others in a reluctant manner too. Such a shame a treat afternoon turned out to be disappointing.

Positive experience: Dec 22 Had 3 visits and the first 2 visits could not fault the place. However the 3rd visit not so good. From the outside the hotel looks great and i am a fan of the dated decor , however for the price you pay it is very steep. The rooms are tiny for what you pay and a pre warning that there is an extractor fan outside your room would have been grand . For the price of breakfast i did expect the quality to be a lot better. The price of the breakfast actually put us off an evening meal at the hotel. It is actually a lovely hotel as stated in the first couple of visits and i am sure my review will have little effect on the pricing of the rooms or food. I will more than likely visit again as i am a glutton for punishment on the bank balance . The staff however where great. Aug 23 As stated above we did revisite the hotel to stay but not too eat. The hotel is still warming and welcoming and the staff again very welcoming. The location is a big selling point , short walk to town or a stones throw to the beach. Perfect.

Negative experience: I paid for 2 upmarket rooms for myself and parents. Check in started my disappointment where I had used the nice online checkin service to then be asked to check in again on paper. I said to the checking in staff that I had done it online and she said she hadn’t had time to transfer the information. Then I wanted to have a beer and found out that I should of been asked to leave a card at checkin. So walked back to reception to do it. Then back to bar to find no one there. Then back to reception and back to bar. Roots were shabby frankly at not worth money. The balcony sea facing room booked for my parents was dripping water onto the balcony room no doubt due to poor drain/ building maintenance. Food in restaurant was average. We had Cornish hake special which was frozen fish for sure. All in all just not delivery the up market price point asked.

Negative experience: The Falmouth Hotel must set their prices on location and view - which is undeniably stunning. Anything else isn’t worth the money paid. For our honeymoon our friends had booked us a 2 night stay. Travelling back from London airport we arrived late. The staff explained Expedia was down so we had to give our own payment details and check in took a long time. We were promised a discount for the inconvenience which was never received. We were celebrating our honeymoon, such information was passed over numerous times to various staff… the room we were given was just hideous and no effort was made to make the stay more enjoyable or special. We didn’t really want to stay in the room however as we arrived late other options were not possible. The hotel smelt strong of fish as I assume that’s what was being cooked in the kitchen but travelled through the whole hotel. The robes and slippers were filthy, our room was disgusting - wall paper hanging off, head board covered in marks. And the hotel was so run down inside especially walking through corridor, obviously suffering from damp. £334.43 was an insult for 2 night stay here… especially then when you have to pay an additional £7 a day each to use ‘spa’ facilities. And the fire alarm bell is rang for 2mins every Wednesday at 10am for testing!! Overpriced & Unwelcoming. Very disappointed as we had been looking forward to this stay. Our friends have been ripped off which is my main reason for this review, I wouldn’t like the same to happen to anyone else.

Positive experience: A huge hotel, right by the sea. Lovely lounge, bar and restaurant. Friendly and efficient staff. The room (309) was very comfortable with a sea view and the bathroom and plumbing were new, fresh and very serviceable. One very small criticism is the carpet in the room was slightly threadbare and by the lift on the 3rd floor, the carpet had been temporarily repaired with tape but I would definitely stay again! Very nice!

Positive experience: An ok place for what I needed - a simple bed to rest my head after a long journey. But the interiors are pretty tired and it could really use a refresh, especially as the building and location are so fabulous! That said it was fairly priced, so I have no complaints.

Positive experience: The hotel is very grand for its location, the lobby area is very nice and is what you would expect for a hotel this big, the staff were very pleasant and polite which does this hotel a credit as I've been in many hotels and rude staff isn't nice for your stay, the bar maid who served us drinks in the wedding venue last night (sat 20/08/22) was outstanding and didn't crack under the pressure and she was very good and polite at her job so give the girl a pay rise! The room we stayed in was nice and it still had some of the old features of a Victorian hotel which you don't get now days as most hotels like to go modern and loose their heritage so keep to it as people like it! I had a look in the castle room where the married couple stayed and that was super and I loved the old French style antique furniture, and the display case that had the old original crested silverware in that room was a really nice touch!

Positive experience: Very good Sunday roast lunch and service, unexceptionable but good ,somewhat spoilt by warm coffee served on glorious terrace that had not been wiped down swept or cleaned of cig ends for some days. Come on management don't let us all down, basic cleanliness standards.

Fantastic experience: We didn't stay, just visited for lunch. We had sandwiches and soup. The bread wasn't anything special, and the sandwich fillings were abit thin. Very pricey for what we had. Would think twice before going back, however, they do allow dogs which was the main reason for stopping there for lunch. Staff friendly and helpful. Beautiful setting.

Negative experience: The Location is perfect. That is the only good thing to mention. The Hotel from the outside, does look great - in some way. When you enter the Hotel at first, you get a glimpse of what to expect. The reception staff is not as kind and friendly. You will disturb them anyway. The rooms - we had a room with seaview - are unacceptable! You spent over 300EUR per Night for a tiny little room. About 11sqm. You get a small window, that almost no fresh air will get inside. And there was dirt on the carpets and walls. And when you look outside your tiny little window you see pigeons - not seagulls - making dirt all over the roof. Not to forget the breakfast buffet. When you would call it a buffet. also DIRTY. dirty dishes everywhere. the staff is overwhelmed by the 20 people, who want to have breakfast. Also there were parties going on every evening until 11 p.m which were not mentioned to the guests at all. And to top all of that: the Manager Ms G. Iures is as much incompetent and unfriendly as the entire hotel and staff experience. So, don't you ever choose this hotel for a smooth and wellbeing vacation at any time!

Fantastic experience: Great location walkable distance to the town. Service has gone down hill in recent years and isn't the friendly cornish helpful service you would expect. Can't order fried bread at breakfast as it isn't on the menu. Hotels of this calibre should be able to do that. Evening menu lacking on choices and the falmouth burger was the best option. Love the old feel to the rooms

Negative experience: Very large and very old beautiful building but sadly has been left to determinate looking very tired inside and out the beautiful gardens have sadly got lots of litter and dirty cups left outside for the whole of our stay even the poor hanging basket at the entrance was dead that sums it up such a shame . The breakfasts were awful the staff in the restaurant had no idea what they were doing I think they has to stand in as there was a wedding on one waitress said to my husband wait I've only got one pair of hands he only wanted to know if there were any spoons but the reception staff on arrival were really nice
