Walsall Gala Swimming & Fitness Centre: Opinions
Negative experience: Changing room are discusting smell horrible and rusty seats they give me the ick also bins are always over full and smell bad also looks very old not up to date like the one im bloxwich
Positive experience: Lovely staff and great facilities, very friendly for disabled guests. The family changing area is very user friendly. Changing rooms are generally clean (much better than bloxwich!) Only criticism is that the dispensers in the shower area and toilets never have any soap in them. My son was quite upset because he used the loo and couldn't wash his hands properly afterwards.
Negative experience: Rude racists staff, treating children differently to other ethnic groups. This is not the first time that this has happened, it has happened on several occasions before. Staff being rude and cheeky towards young children with attitude. Staff need to be replaced with more friendly face looking and helpful staff. No customer service skills at all.
Fantastic experience: Started swimming lessons in February and I can't thank Heidi enough! She is amazing, loud, clear, confident and firm with my two children who can be a handful, its exactly what they need to be safe in the water. The progress they have made in just 25 lessons is unbelievable
Fantastic experience: Brilliant!Pool is warm and extra cleandefinitely recommend x
Fantastic experience: I love going here swimming so relaxing and everyone is friendly
Negative experience: It's shame that They don't refresh their online page. For example, there is nothing about the sauna is out of order but once you arrives you will find out....
Negative experience: Warm waters, good sauna facilities. However dirty swimming facilities. The swimming pool, the brine was full of muck on the bottoms and you could see thing swimming on the top. Needs a clean
Fantastic experience: Brine pool is fantastic as it is nice and hot water. Which is my liking
Fantastic experience: DD attends Walsall swimming club, whom use Walsall gala and fitness for thier club lessons once a week and other venues others days. Pool and facilities are good and the gym has more than enough equipment, does not seem very busy in evening so might be great for those whom want to train with no bother. I have been told that a membership is available which gives access to other gyms within the Walsall Aldridge area. With regards to walsall swimming clus have found the club to be very welcoming, parents are easy going very social, coaches have kids best interest at heat and really nice group of swimmers of which alot are focused and train hard, this is down to the coaches.
Fantastic experience: Brilliant facility! It has great pools and changing facilities. Walk in steps and laddered pools, chair access for disabled people. Knowledgeable staff and it is cleaned regularly. The gym is always being updated and has a great variety of equipment. The pool itself is a little dated and aged but the water is clean and temperatures are stable. There is a good amount of equipment to buy for swim activities here and tables and chairs for eating afterwards.
Fantastic experience: Great place for swimming and water not to cold
Negative experience: Pools are really dirty looked like splatted fly blood all over brine pool Wall the steps To get in it we’re wobbly this was for both pools , staff rude gave wrong info out night before , gala pool tiles were cracked and green and rusty fittings in pool also , plasters floating in pool looked grimy no lights on in Carla pool so quite dark in there lane swims were small also , changing rooms dirty and small quiet bad , never felt so dirty after getting out of a pool will Not return
Negative experience: Waste of time and money. Very very cruel staff. Dirty toilets, shower and changing room. Bad experience.
Positive experience: On day like today a nice swim is a good idea
Negative experience: After I paid 5 pounds and got changed and showered, I was told that the pool was not open for general swimming until 12 and that only two lanes were open, the lifeguard made it sound like I could not swim in the lanes and suggested I use the brine pool. I was confused to I went to use the brine pool which was so full and was basically a hot salty bath that you cannot swim in without bumping into people. I was then told by the lifeguard there that I could not use the sauna because you have to pay extra. When I got changed and left the receptionist was so rude when I explained I was confused by the lanes swimming she was refusing to give me my money back and said I was confusing her. The other receptionist looked at me so disgusted and gave me money back. I understand as it is my first time at the pool but I felt really unwelcome here, the lifeguard did not suggest I could even use the lanes. It is overcrowded and I wont be back here again, its a huge pool so makes no sense why only two lanes would be open and if there are people in them there is no room anyway.
Fantastic experience: I had a "one to one' session with Perry to check on my gym progress. He was fantastic..gave me several tips on my regular routine and when I put them into practice today I really noticed the difference. I'm a regular to the gym, swimming and sauna and really enjoy my membership of the Gala..excellent value for money.
Fantastic experience: Visited with family Beine baths lovely and warm grandchildren love public swim it is difficult to get them out of the water both have swimming lessons one in the training g pool and one in the brine my four year olds instructer is wonderful lots of patience with the little one The only negative is the level if mould on ceiling and walls in brine changing facilities
Fantastic experience: Sometimes crowded but definitely good place to swim. It’s interesting that people don’t pay attention of the sign “take a shower before you enter the pool” There is a reason for that. Anyway I love the whole place. It has everything for people to be active! Thank you! ❤️
Positive experience: Lovely warm pool so would be fabulous if staff would stop gossiping talk/shout across pool to each other.
Fantastic experience: Always come most weeks with a group of people with disabilities the staff are kind and helpfull the pool is always warm and the guys have an excellent time. highly recommend
Fantastic experience: I really enjoy going swimming here on Wednesdays and Thursdays when it public swimming in the gala pool at 4pm until 6pm changing rooms are clean and pools are clean I did enjoy going on the diving boards until they were out of order but still love swimming here
Fantastic experience: Well organised. Great staff and volunteers. Fab swimmers taking part- well done!
Negative experience: advertises diving yet you go and everytime they just say yeah sorry we have 58 kids classes on today that we didn't post about on our website so no diving and half the pool is closed
Negative experience: It needs to be kept clean unfortunately they don't seem to be able to do this without constantly being told
Negative experience: Disabled Changing room and shower trolley are absolutely filthy. The floors are disgusting. The brine pool is filthy and far too hot...realised that there isn't any windows or ventilation in the brine pool. Need major improvements
Fantastic experience: Amazed to find this Brine bath, easily accessible for public use. It is very warm like a hot bath! We could feel the salty taste immediately. An absolute pleasure to swim in and skin feeling softer after a good soak. The pool looked unusually deep and it appeared the water was only half filled but at 0.7 meters in shallow end it was deep enough not to bump my knees while children play and sloped to 1.75 meters at deep end. Found all the info needed for prices and times from website. Had to park nearby, only disabled parking in Tower Rd. Large family village changing room made it easy for us with choice of cubicles. The only showers we found were overlooking the "other" pool which looks great for lane swimming and was almost empty. We will be back soon and recommending to friends. Salt water swimming at a very good price, look no further.
Negative experience: The pool is dirty and dingy, you have to pay extra for the sauna (in every other country you do not have to pay for additional pool attractions). By such standards this stupid sauna should be free ... lifeguards laugh at people and roll their eyes. Small garbage is floating in the water. Kids pool is too deep for small kids - no paddling pool. I do not recommend
Negative experience: Very tired 33m pool which is in desperate need of draining, cleaning and maintenance. Changing village is labyrinthine. No parking.
Fantastic experience: nice gym good range of equipment not too busy
Fantastic experience: Nice and early morning swim makes my day extremely enjoyable
Fantastic experience: A lovely warm water baths
Fantastic experience: A really well presented center. It's so nice to see a deep 33m pool still in action with it's diving boards. Well done to Walsall council for keeping it this way...protect it at all costs!
Negative experience: Way too overcrowded, everyone needs to shower off as feels a public bath just for everyone to have a wash in , crowding needs to be controlled as can't have a leisure swim when teenagers are messing around, also needs to be a proper timetable in place during school holidays to allow elderly and older swimmers to enjoy without hassle
Positive experience: First time visiting gala swim centre. Receptionist not too interested in serving me and instead concentrating on someone else even tho there was another guy in there. So makes u feel unwelcome. No thanks, just a grumpy woman!!! On the upside, the pool is nice and warm. Other facilities are ace. Just a shame the lazy receptionist spoilt my experience. If she don't wanna serve, don't bother.
Positive experience: Took the children swimming in the brine pool , was lovely and warm and not too deep which helps them build confidence in the water. Also has a gym and gala pool. Friendly and helpful staff, clean facilities
Negative experience: Drove from cannock checked Internet said family swim but was told it was disabled swim when got there very upset children
Negative experience: Impossible to get in here as staff at ticket office staff are more interested in chatting on phone and amongst themselves on the three occasions I have tried to visit.
Fantastic experience: Lovely helpful staff especially the lady on reception. Hydrotherapy classes are very good although I think a few just go for a chat blocking places for those who might need them
Positive experience: Water lovely and warm in the brine
Positive experience: Prices are ok, staff are good, water was warm. Changing rooms could be cleaned a little more often. They usually are. We must've been here on an off day. Been here plenty of times. I would swim here again.
Positive experience: Only used Brine pool, which looks exactly like it die 30 years ago......but warm and still works well!!!
Fantastic experience: Very friendly and helpful staff. Being my first time in a long time 2 thumbs up
Positive experience: It is understaffed. Changing rooms flooded with water apparently they can't afford cleaning staff to mope. The gym is missing a bench press, weights go up to 10 Kg. Clearly the targeted audience is children and women only. Marketing department if there is any is clueless. I am 100% sure they are barely surviving.
Fantastic experience: Had a lovely swim in the gala pool today about 4.30pm. Nice and quiet. Also tried the brine pool, very relaxing. Pools and changing rooms were immaculate, staff very helpful and cheerful. We'll done!
Fantastic experience: Clean and well run. Friendly and helpful staff. Great for familys. We're really fortunate to have the Brine Pool. It's one of only a handful in the UK. Website and timetable not always accurate but that's probably managed centrally.
Negative experience: It smells like urine inside the changing rooms. And the receptionist on the desk need training on customer service care
Negative experience: Wasn't a great experience to start. One member of staff could do with a course on customer care and good service. Apart from that one sticking point, overall the place has a nice ambience and good facilities.
Fantastic experience: Very enjoyable I go twice a week
Fantastic experience: Lovely pool.. water is so warm. We went for the disability swim time, and there was only a few swimmers in. The pool has big family style changing rooms as well as individual ones.. the brine pool also has a chair lift for access if needed. Staff were really nice and helpful
Negative experience: Stuff is polite, and prices/packages for singles can be more affordable, but a bigger issue is that all facilities need renovation as there is no proper hygiene.
Positive experience: The brine pool is really warm. They also have the gala pool which has diving boards. Family or single changing rooms with warm showers. Both pools have a spectators section for parents etc who aren't actually swimming. Gym whichover looks the pool and has its own lockers/toilets/changing rooms/showers. Steam room located by the brine pool. Vending machines. They also sell arm bands etc incase you forget anything. Lockers take £1 which u get back. Nearest parking is Morrisons unless you're lucky enough to grab 1 of the 3/4 spaces right outside. The max allowed in the brine is 45 ppl and lately they have been at full capacity quite a lot which means a wait in reception until people leave. Reception take forever to answer the phones as they alone have to deal with face to face customers and telephone enquiries and i have noticed that no other staff help out even if they're stood there doing nothing. Maybe more staff could be given the responsibility to answer calls?
Fantastic experience: Went today, used the brine pool. Water was nice and warm. Plenty of friendly staff around.. Changing rooms were clean. (Don't drink the water it tastes like salt) We will be going back and hopefully I can look at membership.. it was not to busy eather. We had a great time..
Negative experience: The the the reception doesn't answer the phone, you have hold the call for ever or phone 4, 5, times to get through, if
Fantastic experience: I havn't been to the Gala Baths in Walsall for ages. And now I have a Grandaughter so her Mom& Dad and I took her into the Brine pool. The staff were very pleasant and helpful. Front of house and inside. I loved it and so did my family. Shall return again soon.
Fantastic experience: Friendly staff and good for families
Negative experience: The staff take 4eva 2 answer the phones always had 2 ŕing up a 2nd time by the time I get through all spaces booked up 3shj6e⁷
Fantastic experience: Friendly helpful staff, just this Bull**** covid-19 getting in the way of everything!! But the swimming Baths are fine.
Fantastic experience: The Gala is one of the best kept pools in the Midlands.
Positive experience: Restricted amount of people. Changing rooms clean and tidy. Great overall.
Positive experience: Been going since I was a little kid. Staff are welcoming and helpful. The facilities are a little basic but generally well kept, combined with the usually quiet atmosphere it's a nice place to go for a calm swim or peaceful gym session.
Fantastic experience: I enjoy the brine pool and my toddler always enjoys herself here.
Positive experience: Think need to clean sanitise equipment before opening and but sign up to entourage people use sanitiser after use of equipment.i have seen little improved condition s In the outbreak of Corina in a public place more can be done
Positive experience: Nice warm and friendly staff
Fantastic experience: It's friendly clean and lovely and hot great atmosphere
Negative experience: Sick of it saying online the brine pool is open but when they need to state that it's for disabled people, nothing online stated its for disabled people only that it's public swimming severely understaffed & the attitude of kf the receptionist was horrid, I'm classed as disabled #notalldisabilitysarevisable
Positive experience: It's ok to go on less busy times for lane swimming, they could do with wider lanes to swim in.
Negative experience: Both the website and on here says its open but me and my friend just took the kids down after picking them up from nursery, both super excited to go swimming, and a sign on the door says it closed at 2 and will be until January the 2nd! Please update your online or don't bother having your opening times on here!
Negative experience: Changing room smells very bad like stale urine, noticed This on several visits.
Fantastic experience: Friendly staff, it is busy and abit noisy with the lads in the changing room but would visit again! Great for the family swim
Fantastic experience: First time visiting, lots of pools to choose from, something for everyone.
Positive experience: Big pool program is annoying. I have been there and it was “open” in the program listed but actually closed ( no competition ).
Fantastic experience: Excellent friendly staff
Positive experience: Pool is great but the town is depressing!!
Fantastic experience: Love the brine pool nice and warm x
Fantastic experience: Very friendly staff. Gd disabled lift inside. Parking a joke, but that's the only downside
Positive experience: Got cholera last time I went, it's cool though love it there
Fantastic experience: Does what it says on the tin. Just started using the gym after a couple of strokes and the machines are easy to use and the staff are all friendly and helpful. It's definitely a gym for people just interested in starting out, you won't feel intimidated in there and it's a good mix of men and women young and old.
Positive experience: Used the gym, not the pool. Equipment is OK, a reasonable number of machines covering everything you need and a few light dumbbells. Changing rooms are on the floor below, but behind gates you need a pound to get through then get a refund, either that or you change in the toilet on the same floor as the gym! Lockers are in the gym. They are small and there are few of them, also you need a token from reception to use them. In exchange for the token you get a key with an inconvenient thick plastic handle, but no means of attaching it to anything. Oh yes, the token is swallowed by the locker so you can only lock it's door once. I counted I think 8 machines out of action in the gym. Not the worst gym I have seen, but far from the best. You will be OK if you are not in a rush or have high standards.
Positive experience: Great swimming pool. I like the warm brine pool where I can relax after all week at work. 1 star less for cleaning. There should be more cleaning staff .
Positive experience: Lovely staff, very clean facilities. Parking can sometimes be a little scarce.
Fantastic experience: Great staff, brilliant pool facilities, clean, well looked after.
Positive experience: Very good for an hour or two of family time and fun. NOT IMPRESSED today 26th August, Bank holiday monday, the website states that the pools are open, my children were looking forwards to a swim and play in the pool in this hot weather to cool down, we walked 20 minutes to the baths to find out that the baths were closed when we got there. On the website it states they are open and times may change due to it being a bank holiday which is fair enough, but very inaccurate, not a happy bunny
Negative experience: Disappointing I joined mainly to do the exercise classes but they are not covered when the instructors off even when the instructors has given several months notice of the intention to be off. Not a very professional set up and not always that clean in the swimming areas. Still you get what you pay for. A shame as it has the potential to be good with the right manager.
Positive experience: Lovly pool lovly front desk staff
Positive experience: Used to go here as a child and returned recently with my own children, a little disappointed over the lack of showering facilities in the family change area and that they're quite public so didn't feel I could shower comfortably after my swim. Left smelling of chlorine ☹️ I would like to add that we did enjoy our swim and the staff there are very friendly and approachable. But they could definitely do with more help on the front desk felt sorry for the lady on there keep having to apologize for the wait. Also a better coffee machine would be nice had a latte and it was just like drinking water
Fantastic experience: Friendly staff and good disabled access and facilities
Fantastic experience: Love it here. My kids love the brine pool and have learnt to swim independently here. Wear Google's as the water can really effect your eyesight for hours after if you plan to dip your head
Fantastic experience: Great place to swim ♀️
Positive experience: Nice leisure centre. One pool is warm and worth a visit. There is a gym as well.
Positive experience: It's always been a nice place the gym is good and staff are friendly and helpful
Positive experience: Mainly use the gym, usually not many people around so no waiting for equipment. Selection of cardio and weights machines. Could do with some free weights as only dumbbells are available. The pools are excellent
Positive experience: Friendly staff. Love being in the brine pool
Negative experience: Toilets upstairs to the gym not clean despite having complained about the toilets. Staff member talking about me for complaining when thought I was not in earshot.
Fantastic experience: Fantastic, lovely warm salty water, I love it.
Positive experience: Facilities are dated but clean.
Positive experience: Reception gets busy at times 1 receptionist sorting out queries holds up people wanting to use the facilities
Positive experience: It is a good place the life guards got involved when we're playing but also keeping everyone safe
Positive experience: Must say not been for a good few years pleasant surprise today
Negative experience: Pool is very dirty, and it's very cold. Today when I went for a swim, I found lots of junk in it such as blue tak fluff earings hairbobbles and plastic, plasters . The only good thing about it was the service at reception. Famg
