Fantastic experience: Great gym space. Plenty of kit available. Does what it says on the tin.

Negative experience: Cheap membership, however, I’m concerned about the deterioration of a lot of the equipment at the gym. As a member for 2+ years the equipment has remained the same and there hasn’t been any upgrades at all.

Negative experience: It’s a big enough gym that it doesn’t ever really feel busy & it is cheaper than most. Can’t really rate it above two starts, though, as the equipment is very dated and the gym has zero cleaning stations on the gym floor. The only towels you can use to wipe down machines will cost you £5 from a vending machine, and even then you have no anti-bacterial spray to sanitise the equipment with.

Fantastic experience: Love this gym. I’m not the most confident of gym goers but I feel super comfortable here. I like the dark and love the space. I’ve never had to wait for equipment nor had anyone waiting for me. There’s a real mix of clientele which I think is a true testament to what I’m saying. Everyone just gets on with it. The spin studio is fab, just wish there were more classes. Well done JD

Fantastic experience: I prefer this gym to some of the other well known commercial gyms. It is clean, has WAY better music than the other gyms, and has adequate equipment. I go when it's quiet and like the vibe - someone said it has an 'underground nightclub' feel in another comment but I actually enjoy the dark colour scheme / windowless element. Please do fix the level of the lifting platforms by the entrance though! The weights roll...

Negative experience: Need to make your gym 24hrs, must lose so many to Pure Gym and The Gym

Positive experience: Its got everything that ud expect from a comecial gym. But some of the equipment is a bit dated. Could do with some more plate loaded machines or just newer ones. But heavy free weights area and good number of platforms

Positive experience: Great potential , mediocre execution. There is a leak at the entrance that they can't be bothered to fix for weeks now. That really impacts the experience that's why it's 3 stats instead of 4. The music is a bit too clubby, but that's subjective. Kits are ok, staff is helpful but definitely not above and beyond. The layout and the lights are awesome! The rest is standard.

Positive experience: JD gym has a plenty of equipment including benches and squat racks. This gym is 100% good value for money. However, there is room for improvement. The matrix equipment needs renewed as a lot of things have been around since the gym opened as an exercise 4 less a while back. Please fix the lifting platforms as someone forgot their spirit level whilst fitting. To make this a 5 star review please get nautilus plate loaded machines like your Dundee gym!

Positive experience: Used the gym since it opened and when it was run by the previous company. Generally very good. Only minor negative is that some of the equipment maintenance is superficial - belts can slip on most of the running machines, especially if you are using the incline settings. Pully systems on the lat pull down units are worn and poorly lubricated so stick.

Negative experience: Once you have joined this gym it's an absolute nightmare trying to cancel your membership. They make it so difficult. I first joined 8 years ago after being stopped in the West Side plaza shopping centre and they used high pressure sales tactics to get you to sign up even though I didn't really want to. You have to give one months notice before you cancel and you will be advised to go online to do so. Such a frustrating experience.

Negative experience: The thing was overall it is good but regarding the security I don't think you are up to the mark. Someone stolen my Nike jacket today and no one can help me with that it's a shame. Guys don't leave anything expensive in the dressing rooms you better carry with yourself throughout the time you are in gym. If someone can help me with my stuff I will definitely appreciate it. There are thief's around you especially westside plaza JD gym beware. Thanks

Fantastic experience: Finally a gym with more than 2 squat racks that doesn't charge you £100/mo. Plenty of space for deadlifts too. Could do well with another leg press but for a compound movement enjoyer like myself, it's paradise.

Positive experience: It's ok. Seems to be alot of under 16 in there . However when there not in it good.

Fantastic experience: Spacious, clean and well vented. Decent free weights area, enough training equipment even during busy hours, no need to line up for it. If it would be open at least one hour earlier in a morning that would be perfect GYM!

Negative experience: If you go to the gym before work and need to shower then don’t go, the showers are a joke and have been a problem for years. It was an issue before jd took over it and with all the money they spent on refurb they went cheap on the biggest problem this place has- the showers. Always out of order and no hot water which screws your day. No email to pre warn customers either, it’s only when you arrive you find this out.

Fantastic experience: Honestly only gym I've ever felt comfortable in and the staff are super friendly and knowledgeable.

Negative experience: If u like people that are friendly when u train or even just for some people to say hi don’t go here, good equipment but as a say just not a good training vibe at all.

Fantastic experience: Excellent value gym. Recently refurbished. Great range and number of pieces of equipment. Spacious changing area and plenty of lockers and showers. Friendly staff on hand.

Negative experience: This is where I caught covid. Nobody in masks. Nobody sanitizing. Nobody wiping the equipment. I did it myself but I still caught it on an initiation visit. Probably from the knurling on a greasy barbell. It's tough for everybody right now but if you do go here; wipe everything down.

Positive experience: If you're a bodybuilder in edinburgh, you're struggle to find a better gym than this. It's not got the best equipment, to be honest all equipment is matrix so don't be expecting any premium brand. But the gym is never too busy like puregyms, the cardio machines are lined up nicely so you have a great view of the whole gym and there's plenty of platforms to squat in. There is 2 smyth machines which is nice and the dumbbells go to 50kg which is all most people need. Can't complain for just 19.99 really!

Fantastic experience: Nice atmosphere, clean,good equipment and very reasonably priced. The place to train if your serious and sensible. Has a nice sled set up if you are a hyrox fan.

Fantastic experience: Great improvement. This gym is on my doorstep, and I'm pleased it offers so many classes each month included in the price. I've tried the JD Burn so far, which is a bit like bootcamp, and I highly recommend it. I go to the gym to keep active and can't comment on what features might appeal to serious gym fiends. The old gym was good but some features were a bit shabby. This is a massive improvement and I think the extra fiver a month is worth it.

Positive experience: This is the Xercise4less gym taken over by JD Gyms. In my opinion, it was better as Xercise4Less. They had a better range of Dumbells (up to 75kg) The JD dumbells go as heavy as 50kg. The new decor reminds me of a 90's nightclub. It's dark and full of neon lights. The positives - there is a nice functional area, new racks, a well lit spin cycle studio and a designated area to hit bags. The windows in to the shopping centre have been boarded up which adds to the "basement" feel. For someone new to the gym that maybe just wants to do a bit of cardio and some resistance work, it's great.
