Brooklands Health Club: Opinions
Positive experience: Unfortunately they aren't listening to customer feedback or considering any compromises. Swimmers constantly complain about too much family swim time in an already very small pool. Adults have limited quiet swim time or are limited to one lane to keep away from the hoards of children. Overcrowding in the gym at peak times too. Membership is too oversubscribed and expensive for these restrictions.
Positive experience: Overall great gym. Likes: sauna, steam room, pool, changing rooms, in-gym cleanliness. Areas for improvement/suggestions: 1. Ensure steam room is hot enough/producing enough steam 2. Ensure Sauna door closes properly (it seems the top hinge is slightly loose as the door is overhanging at the top currently & letting air into the sauna) 3. Remove biotech circuit equipment and use it as additional free weight space - additional bench press/squat rack/dumbbells could be put there. 4. Clean changing rooms regularly - particularly around men’s urinals and toilet cubicles. Thanks! :)
Positive experience: I really like this gym in so many ways and I love the good range of workout equipment. It’s small but it’s practical! Pool/steam room area is nice and relaxing (when it’s not so busy). Just wish the gym opened earlier! Working in healthcare I’d love to be in and out the gym before 7am and just generally before everyone is up and the outside world is busy.
Positive experience: Not much room to do weights. The bio circuit area could be put to better use
Fantastic experience: Bar seems to be staffed better now at peak times. Great and thank you !
Negative experience: Absolutely not worth £70. Everything is always way too busy. Wouldn’t bother at all…
Negative experience: I joined this gym a few months ago after moving to the area and have not been impressed at all. The swimming time table is 90% family swimming so everytime you’d like to swim there are families in the pool. There is one lane so only a maximum of two people can swim in the pool and given some children aren’t supervised there is constant screaming and I experienced two children cutting up the swimming lane mid swim with no one there to tell them to get out. This is a health club (I.e relaxing) not a public leisure centre. When I’ve been to the gym area which is incredibly over crowded, I’ve been asked to move on the equipment I was using twice by the same PT. The PTs (although supposedly they’re not allowed to do this) use a number of equipment at the same time and are passive aggressive to members during their sessions. Again, nothing seems to have been done about this. The facilities are good but it is extremely overcrowded at all times and poorly managed. Please sort it Brooklands as the membership at its current pricing is not worth it.
Negative experience: I've been a member here for a couple of months now. The health club is okay overall, but for the cost of membership, the experience leaves much to be desired. The changing rooms and showers are clean and well-maintained, which is appreciated. However, the gym and pool are consistently overcrowded, no matter the time of day—I’ve been in the morning, at lunch, and in the evening, and it’s always busy. One of the biggest frustrations is the behaviour of the personal trainers. They regularly hog multiple pieces of equipment at once for their clients, even during peak times. On several occasions, I’ve tried to use equipment only to be told by a PT that it’s reserved, but then the equipment sits unused for 20 minutes while they’re off doing something else. This has happened more than once and is incredibly frustrating. I’ve also been asked to move mid-workout so a PT could use the equipment for their client, which is unacceptable. I raised this with reception, but my concerns were brushed off, which is disappointing. The gym itself is clean, and the equipment is modern, but the overcrowding and lack of management around PT behaviour seriously detracts from the experience. The pool also faces similar issues with overcrowding. There are far too many “family swim” sessions, and children are often left unsupervised, venturing into the lane swimming areas, making it difficult to enjoy a proper swim. For the price, I expected a more enjoyable and managed experience.
Fantastic experience: Tried a few gyms over Manchester and this is the one I came back to. Has everything I wanted and even when it's busy it's not rammed like some gyms. Perfect.
Fantastic experience: Great gym facilities and friendly staff
Fantastic experience: Great staff, very personable and approachable. Great place too.
Fantastic experience: Don't understand some of the snarky reviews some people are never happy. Club is clean, smart and staff friendly. Yes its busy but there's a reason its popular. Plenty of free on site parking and great bar.
Negative experience: Signed up on 3 month contract under the premise that the club was clean and quiet - it's neither. Classes are oversubscribed, the gym is packed with what I can only assume are Sale Grammar School students, and the toilets / changing rooms are filthy. To add insult to injury, at the end of my 3 month contract I was told I need to pay another month's membership (£70) in order to exit my contract. Avoid at all costs - it wouldn't be worth it if it was £7 a month, let alone £70
Fantastic experience: Had a tour and it looked amazing going to join soon once I leave my gym
Negative experience: Classes so oversubscribed you have to set your alarm for 6am to get a chance to book on them a week in advance. They should set the booking on time at a more sociable hour, to have to wake up 6am every day including weekends is exhausting
Positive experience: The gym is lovely and staff are wonderful and it was such a fantastic place when I joined but it is getting ridiculously overcrowded and you struggle to book the classes and unfortunately the swiming pool aren't better as it is fulled by family swimming which it means children are everywhere ...jumping and making alot of noises and that means no tranquility
Positive experience: Really nice gym and pool, steam & sauna area. The changing rooms are always very clean and tidy. Does get overcrowded during peak times like other reviews have said.
Fantastic experience: Very nice gym, lovely staff members. 10/10
Fantastic experience: A great range of equipment in the gym, well lit and lots of natural light. The wellness area with pool is great, steam room and sauna also great and not over subscribed like some places
Fantastic experience: Excellent
Positive experience: Great gym now it has had it's refurbishment.
Positive experience: I used to swim at the leisure centre but thought I’d pay extra and come here, as it seemed a bit less hectic. Pool area is nice but is becoming too overcrowded. On my most recent visit, I was the only female in the pool, surrounded by 10 males, which made me feel quite uncomfortable. Too many family time swims on the timetable (I joined here to get away from the kids!). Not sure if I will continue to be a member.
Fantastic experience: As a guest who is coming to the gym for the first time it’s a great environment to work out and the atmosphere is brilliant not to mention all the equipment is top notch and the area is very clean in general!
Negative experience: Too many people
Positive experience: I have been a member since it reopened. In terms of pricing I would say it's definately 20% more in price than it should be. It isnt very big in the main gym area and after 6pm it is very over crowded which puts me off going after work. They really need to think about limiting numbers during certain times somehow. The pool isn't that big so you soon end up bumping into people when there is more than 4 people swimming. Changing rooms are fairly clean but soon become way too humid. I feel like the current owners are just accepting as many people on the books as possible without thinking about the overcrowding during peak times.
Fantastic experience: What an amazing club this is. The facilities are fantastic and staff really approachable and knowledgeable.
Fantastic experience: Love the new look and the pool area is lovely. The membership is A bit expensive though.
Fantastic experience: Fantastic local health club with fantastic facilities and dedicated staff.
Fantastic experience: Great classes, excellent services and up to date equipment.
Positive experience: Revamp looks great! Was a previous member for 10yrs not worth £75 a month, and the membership chap had a bad attitude. Shame really
Fantastic experience: After the revamp it looks amazing the staff and instructors are very friendly and helpful
Negative experience: We didn’t stay long. Recently refurbished but already disgusting in places. Gym area very cold, sauna not warm enough and the steam room usually stank. Lazy, unhelpful staff with one exception - Helga. Don’t know how it’s been scored well so far (???)
Fantastic experience: Nice little gym
Fantastic experience: Friendly professional, just been refurbished. Excellent
Fantastic experience: full of activities to do
