The Portland Centre

Fantastic experience: Excellent swimming facilities here, 25m pool and goes below 6ft depth. Lifeguards are usually polite, allowing you to use the inflatable toys if you go with younger children however it really depends on the mood. If you’re just going on your own for a swim, then it’s a great place. This centre isn’t only good for swimming, but also has really good services for extra curricular activities like taekwondo. Would definitely recommend bringing your kids here to have some fun and get active.

Fantastic experience: Good leisure centre, I went to the CARE session and that was run well.

Positive experience: Firstly reception and all staff are warm, friendly and welcoming, so it’s not an issue about personnel. The main concerns I wish to bring to management attention is the ladies changing rooms toilets which are in need of a fresh coat of paint as the current paint on the walls is very poor and flaking off. The really serious issue is with the main floor, multi sport lower floor area, which is in dire need of refurbishment, as the hard surface requires clear demarcation lines painted, of each sport that can be played in the main hall. This would be a short term fix. The long term solution would be replacing the entire floor.

Negative experience: The old lady working at the reception. The one with white hair is very rude, not polite at all. It doesn't suit the gym reception at all. She doesn't say hello, doesn't smile. The song is the police chief.

Positive experience: Excellent little leisure centre in the Meadows, but accessible from most parts of Nottingham because of its proximity to the town centre. Have loads of great activities for adults and kids alike at very reasonable prices. The centre is a bit tired, but has a wonderful community atmosphere.

Fantastic experience: My daughter learning swimming classes here. Very happy with the way they handle classes or very understanding staff. Also, I go for regular general swim as a membership which is cheaper per month.

Positive experience: Great little 'leisure' centre with good equipment in the gym and decent sized pool. Membership packages are very reasonable and the staff are lovely. Can get quite busy at times in the fitness areas but more than enough equipment for everyone to get out what they need to from their time in there. Would've given 5 stars if the pool showers weren't so ridiculously hot, stay way from these if you have sensitive skin! Glad I signed up and would recommend to others looking to sign up to a budget gym with all the equipment you need to stay in shape

Positive experience: Good value gym and leisure centre with basic facilities and friendly staff. Gym is quite small so does get filled up very quickly but permitting you can go at the right times it does the job

Positive experience: Our weekend spot for badminton. They have good space for badminton but it is not a dedicated court. The badminton court have too many lines with same color (diff contrast). In the same court they are allowing basketball, volleyball, indoor football etc. Some times the receptionist wont pick up call . They have dedicated court for squash. This review is based on my badminton experience. They keep the space neat and tidy. Not sure about the gym and swiming pool area. However we are enjoying our games in portland

Positive experience: I buy £15 swim membership, the walls and floors could definitely be better and despite sometimes asking if we have a "reservation" they dont reply to our emails. The sides and edges of the pool could do with a deep clean, also last time i was there a man was taking pictures of the pool, despite informing the staff he continued to do so so id be wary of other people here. Though its the closest pool to us so we'll keep coming here but that doesnt mean it doesnt have room to improve.

Fantastic experience: Left virgin gym to join Portland centre and glad i did. For the price you pay the equipment its great and running machines are actually calibrated unlike virgin. The staff are insanely pleasant and so are the other users. You can see a lot of time and effort has gone into the service they provide and the way they conduct themselves, Genuine please to attend the centre. Classes are on the up as well which I never thought they would have being a smaller gym but they utilise the space very well £20 a month for gym and swim you can’t go wrong.

Had been really put off exercising by other venues that had bad vibes. But thanks to the Portland Centre's welcoming culture, I can't believe that I actually look forward to exercising now!

Negative experience: Booked and paid for a badminton court, did so in person whilst at a the venue for a previously booked session. When we arrived this time the place was locked up - NOT HAPPY!!! unable to play when the session has been booked and paid for

Fantastic experience: Lots of work has gone into this thanks to Notts County and it's made it a great community space to be in. Great squash courts, gym equipment and sports hall space. All pretty reasonably priced and pretty good parking.

Fantastic experience: Fab place, has a variety of sports as well as swimming pool, gym etc. Staff are lovely and it's a nice place to go. Close to city centre so a great spot to meet friends if you want a training buddy. They also have sports and clubs like netball and basketball.

Fantastic experience: Love love love the old style swimming pools... It is wonderfully clean and bright throughout, but especially in the area of the pool. Showers are wonderfully hot, just wish they would stay on a bit longer easily accessible n love the wall murals. Staff are friendly and the aqua aerobics class is awesome on a Sunday afternoon.

Negative experience: I just went to play badminton with my friends, but courts are in very bad condition, net is always lower that it should, we have to keep adjusting the net. No one cares it seems. I can surely say this is not the place for badminton.

Fantastic experience: I come to Portland 3 times a week to swim. It’s a leisure centre yes and not a expensive health club but I’ve never been let down. It’s always clean (when ever I go atleast) and I find the pool clean. Easy to find parking right outside

Fantastic experience: Brilliant place very good facilities, nice clean and well Presenting staff. The toilets are a shock..!! But that isn’t the centers fault !! Good value for money on the vending and the car park is located right outside, which is great! I come over twice a week for the taekwondo classes and every time I’ve got a warm welcome., great place, clean and tidy outside too. Not a great area but they are definitely a great place to visit.

Positive experience: Love the victorian swimming pool. It's unusual in that it's over 30m long which makes for a better swimming experience when you're doing a lot of lengths.

We had experienced a bad situation once, but Mr Simpson, the GM, has turned all the situation in a brilliant way, witch made my wife and me very comfortable to keep training. Highly recommend this Center for the services and for the kindness of the team.

Fantastic experience: Very good leisure centre which has got swimming, badminton courts, squash , table tennis and gym . Also it has got the yoga programme, zumba with trained professionals. Very good swimming pool with maintanence with a nice staff. Some of the swimming school come and teach here too.. if you are interested check with reception for more details. Not so expensive rates with pas as you go option or if you want to opt for direct debit yes you can go for it. Friendly staff can explain you the various programs that are available in the centre. You can consult a trainer and mention what you are looking for . They will conduct a one-one session and advise you the best workout plan.

Negative experience: Watch out for the dangerous “low brick pyramids” leaving the car park or entering! Saw a poor bus driver fall right over one and smack his nose on the brick pavement beyond, yesterday! Luckily he only received a slight nose bleed, but it could have been an awful lot worse! This was my first visit and to say I am shocked with these trip hazards, is an understatement! The venue must paint them white or have some sort of highly visible reflective treatment painted on them as a highest of priority, before someone hurts themselves and SUES! The only reason I gave it a two ⭐️ is because the staff were quick with the clean up of blood trail!
