The Bridge Leisure Centre

Positive experience: I’ve enjoyed the facilities so far, good range of equipment. The 3/5 reflects purely how busy it gets after 3pm, absolute floods of school kids that hover on kit in groups making it very difficult just to complete your session. The fact you have to sign in for the gym, surely there should be a capacity limit.

Negative experience: Overbooked a few sessions and cancelled all of mine when clearly books 2 weeks in advance.

Positive experience: Spacious, plentiful seating makes it a comfortable place to relax. Toilets need attention, but the courts are large & well-maintained.

Fantastic experience: Thanks for an excellent first week visit to The Bridge Leisure Centre for Sunday morning Body Pump on the 07/07/24, a truly inspired, uplifting and invigorating Thursday evening Body Combat class with Sarah on the 11/07/24 and again with Sarah at Body Pump Express on the 13/07/24. I’m hooked now! Beautifully modern and clean change rooms, in addition to an exercise studio with amazing views and excellent equipment. Fabulously friendly and efficient reception team. Any chance of perhaps introducing Body Combat and/Zumba on weekends?

Positive experience: Would be 5 stars but today I couldn't get parked in the car park and lots of us were having to park on the verges this entailed having to deal with the local council do gooder snobs that had congregated that day to do the vote count in the hall

Positive experience: Great place to work out in the gym.. Just felt a few more machines are needed given the amount of space there is in the gym. Very clean and excellent facilities with a 6 badminton court hall and kids climbing ..

Positive experience: I frequent this leisure centre with my family, usually at weekends. We have small children and they have great options to keep the little ones active. The staff are really very helpful and knowledgeable and the facilities are clean and well maintained. We have tried active play and bounce (bouncy castle session) a few times and the children love it. The sensory playroom is small and doesn't have much for the children to do but it's not expensive for a session so we couldn't complain. We're planning on booking clip'n'climb too, as it's always popular and looks great fun. The only negative I have is that the coffee machine seems to be always on the blink and the food options seem a bit off. Definitely recommend this as a community hub though. Brilliant place.

Positive experience: We held a birthday party here, both times coming in to book and then coming in on the day, the bloke on reception ignores you, you're made to feel like an inconvenience stood there waiting, they're just doing something on the computer. No acknowledgement/greeting, or ill be right with you, give me a second etc. Got younger lads wondering around working, not looking like they're up to much, gave one a trolley back after taking everything back to the car and he looked like a deer in headlights. Our hosts were friendly enough, I couldn't find them the second half of the bounce session, had to chase them for water refills. But for ease of prepping all the food and such before hand and shoving it out in the party room and massive fun bouncy castles made up for the rubbish customer service.

Fantastic experience: Loved the centre and the swimming facilities. The badminton hall was lovely with a fabulous floor. Enjoyed playing and using the coffee shop on site.

Positive experience: The Forever Active programme aimed at older adults is brilliant. Mondays and Thursdays with loads of activities including Archery, Badminton, Tennis, Table Tennis, Pickleball, Short Mat Bowls, Pilates, Aerobics, Yoga, Keep Fit, Ballet Stretch, Steady and Strong, Spin Cycling, Gym and Gym Circuits. Pay as you go (all day ticket price £6.60) or membership. Loads of fun, make new friends whilst keeping fit and active.

Positive experience: I've been a member for about 18 months now, and my main use is the gym. Great value for money, in the summer, can make use of outside tennis courts too. The gym is well equipped, although it does get busy, and lots of groups at certain times (5/6 people) around 1 piece of equipment Toilets are always clean Scanning in the system works well Some receptionists are more friendly than others. Would be great to have a vending machine with healthy snacks and protein rather than chocolate! Also, temperature is generally warm in the gym and hit and miss with the lights being turned on!

Negative experience: Visited in October with 2 children.They accepted more children then climbing stations.So Immediately children had nowhere to climb and only one staff member to unclip/clip all the children often waiting 5mins before they could move.Sti ll waiting for an update on their findings referencing my message.Mrs Smith Eastbourne

Fantastic experience: Fab leisure centre for a wide age range. I attend the Forever active group sessions on pilates and circuits. Great if you have limited/reduced mobility or strength.

Positive experience: Decent gym with lots of parking. It can be fairly busy in peak times, which is to be expected at a gym like this. Often see the staff cleaning throughout the day. They have a good range of classes available to book and there tends to be lots going on for young kids as well. A good asset to the area.

Positive experience: Poor tour given by the receptionist. Didn’t seem like she could really be bothered - maybe because I interrupted her conversation with her colleague. Had to keep asking to see certain things e.g., inside the spin room. She missed out quite a bit of the centre. The tour was much more personal and thorough at Billingshurst Leisure. Generally a nice building, but gym is of a medium size, meaning it gets packed quickly - which it was when I viewed it.

Negative experience: This is the worst app. You have to scroll past all the introduction and kids programs to find the class you're after. Instructors use microphones so you can't understand much. Not much water comes out of the showers, no wonder nobody uses them.

Fantastic experience: Always clean and great environment. Staff are always friendly. Lots of activities to do. Free parking right outside

Fantastic experience: This was the starting point of St Catherine's midnight walk. Plenty of parking space,easy access. Super evening.

Positive experience: I really like the gym here. The staff are really friendly and helpful and there are plenty of great facilities. I have found it hard to book a gym induction for my stepchild though, as they seem to only do these during school hours. Also, going to the gym during junior sessions can be a bit of a nuisance with young boys everywhere messing around on the equipment. But other than that, I'm really happy to be a member here and get a lot of value from it.

Negative experience: Sooo bad I would never want to come back kicked me out the gym when I had explained to them I had done my induction but they did not listen to me I showed them my code in my phone from my membership but continued to tell me to leave I do not recommend coming here very very bad staff that are soooo rude they seem nice but after a while they start to get much ruder what is wrong with this world why should we pay you to exercise, trust me just go to the Pavillions it’s soooooo much better it has amazing staff and will never kick you out and has amazing facilities please don’t come here so you don’t experience the same that I did .

Fantastic experience: Had my sons 5th birthday here on the obstacle course inflatables with 20 odd kids. Couldn't be happier with the service, staff and facilities! Well organised, we were allowed to view the inflatables and party rooms before booking. The week before, we had a talk through of what happens on the day. Clean facilities, happy staff, trollie for presents, kids group photo organised by staff...and all felt safe. Party room was huge, and it was equipped with a music system and tables and benches. Loads of free parking. Couldn't recommend this place enough and took the stress out of everything. Well done everyone and thank you!

Positive experience: I wish that the treadmills were a little more spaced or stabilised as when the person next to you is running it makes your machine wobble which makes me feel motion sick, partly due to the tv screens on top blocking the view out of the window Otherwise, I really like this gym, and the staff are always friendly and helpful

Negative experience: Do not join this gym, very little equipments, mainly for cardio, people sit around to chat and u wont be able to work out, limited time as gym shuts 10pm & if you cancel your contract they will charge you a further £30 and if the money doesn’t go through they will charge you £47 - worse gym there is, do no sign up its not worth it!

Fantastic experience: Clip and climb with 5 and 8 year olds. Well organised and safe. Enough to keep them amused and engaged for an hour

Negative experience: Can't believe they stopped ALL adults from playing basketball in the centre. All because of a couple incidents of "dunking". Shocking that ONLY children are allowed to play basketball in the centre. Honestly, how could you do this when adults are the main ones paying to play on the court with their memberships??

Fantastic experience: Very clean and fresh,staff very helpful toilet's and changing rooms immaculate I used the big hall for a cat show ☺️

Negative experience: The gym no longer allows over 16+ to play basketball till January. I have full membership just for Basketball and now I am no longer able to play till then. Their reason is that the rims are not safe for people to dunk on...unfortunately I can't even freaking dunk lol

Fantastic experience: We came to the climbing area for a kids party. Brilliant set up The kids loved it. And a big hall to use after for the party area.

Positive experience: Just went there yesterday to do some work in the cafee/waiting area. Seems to have good sporting facilities with lots of parking space and toilets. Just be aware if you are hanging out here there is very limited sockets to plug your devices in.

Positive experience: Visited to use clip n climb, which was brilliant for youngster's first climbing experiences. Instructors needed to moderate their briefing for the younger audience however, as not sure how much of the safety info sunk in to start with, but they were pretty good at keeping an eye on them once started and helping as needed. Cafe was a little pricey, but lovely coffee!

Negative experience: Value for money but poorly managed. Parking very good, facility poorly designed, cheaply built and, for the age of it, very run down - maintenance non-existent? Gym changing rooms impractical (low hanging space, narrow lockers, cheap fittings overall) and shower facilities filthy all the time, not helped by the rank sewage smell due to poor plumbing (take your antibacterial spray if you plan to use them, most people will skip the shower facilities). Gym well equipped (although cardio equipment mix not meeting demand) but usually very untidy/dirty. Most instructors interested mostly in chatting with regulars than ensuring guests' welfare (= adequate paper towels and sanitising spray supplies, correct posture and use of equipment). but you get what you pay for.

Positive experience: If you like places with 0 atmosphere, limited equipment, staff that ignore you and look at you like you're causing them a problem when you ask them a very basic and polite question, and like people parking WAY to close for you for no reason at all, then this is the place for you! Such a miserable place to be.

Fantastic experience: The Climb at the Bridge is great fun for everyone. Haven't used any other parts of the center yet

Fantastic experience: We visited the Bridge Leisure Centres a couple of weeks ago to use their splendid Clip ‘n’ Climb facility. We took a group of Scouts and they all had a fantastic time. The booking process & checking in upon arrival was simple. The Clip ‘n’ Climb facility itself is really good - a wide variety of individual climbs as well as two different experiences: the leap of faith & stairway to heaven. Highly recommended!

Positive experience: A great way to let off steam in a fun way. A relative uses the gym tgere and really rates it. They run various classes there such as trampolining and dance classes. Next door is a sports arena. I don't know what the prices are like so can't comment on that. It may be due to covid that not all areas of the centre were in use.

Positive experience: Skate park is good, however lots of rubbish and no bins. Apparently skaters can't use the leisure center toilets MEMBERS ONLY! Seems ridiculous to provide a facility and try to distance themselves from it all at once.

Fantastic experience: We had an Active Bounce party for my 5 year old daughter and 14 of her friends. The staff at the Bridge were fantastic, looking after all our needs whilst ensuring all children were having fun and kept safe on the huge bouncy castle. The staff were all polite, friendly and professional. Would highly recommend.

Negative experience: The town centre is a disgrace to the people of Sunderland or is time the council did something about pur town centre.

Positive experience: Clip n climb, what can I say the kids had a blast. We were at the 5pm session on Friday. Was not busy at all, quiet and relaxed.
