Iford Golf Centre (Christchurch Golf Club): Opinions
Positive experience: Wonderful place and a great work in progress. When it’s done it is going to be something. Lovely staff team
Fantastic experience: It’s got the lot, golf balls, golf clubs, somewhere to hit the balls. Amazing place. Definitely coming again soon.
Positive experience: Used the driving range. Nice driving range with trackman technology. I haven’t played for a while and didn’t have my clubs, so I hired a battered old left handed 5 iron - either than or a pitching wedge or putter! Needs to be more choices for left handers and more care taken in their hire clubs, especially if there are new players or those returning to the game that don’t have their own clubs.
Fantastic experience: Very fun and great for a day out
Negative experience: The condition of the mats and balls is becoming a bit of a joke in my opinion, especially as lots of money has been spent on new ball tracking equipment. Prioties.
Fantastic experience: Excellent course and driving range.
Negative experience: Terrible greens and very poorly maintained course for £35. The slowest pace of play I’ve seen in my life - you’ll be lucky to finish in 5 hours. Possibly the worst value for money on a golf course I’ve ever seen
Negative experience: Driving range opens 8:30am
Positive experience: The place is looking a bit ropey but it's a nice thing to do l.
Positive experience: It seemed as if the staff on reception didn't care if we played golf or not. No greeting when we walked in and no goodbye when we left even though we prompted them for a reply. Golf course OK for a pay and play course with some interesting holes, especially the 18th.
Negative experience: Used the driving range, balls were of an awful quality as was the mat. The trackman froze 2 mins in and didn't work again. We asked a member a staff who said they couldn't do anything. Won't rush to return.
Negative experience: Played 18 holes on Sunday 18th. 4 ball + 2 buggies. £212. RIP off. Course is worse today than it was 2/3 years ago. Yet to work out why they have changed the back 9 for the front 9 and vice versa. What was the point. 4 players will NOT be returning and will spread the word.....
Positive experience: Busy place however plenty of bays, balls could do with an improvement
Fantastic experience: Kids love it. Flat walking for us Grandparents. Just great fun.
Fantastic experience: Great fun and well set up,we will be back!! My son loved it.
Negative experience: A lovely cold pint of moretti lager tempted us into a lunchtime snack. What a mistake. Our chips were taken and accepted at another table meaning chef had to recook them, and our tea was cold by the rime they arrived, to have with our tea & cake desert. Staff just laughed. When chips came out they weren't plain as ordered, but skin on variety. What a sham! Won't be going back.
Positive experience: Enjoyed 9 holes of Par3, despite terrific heat! Service Very slow at the bar afterwards...problems with till, but frustrating waiting for drink in heat! Pizzas very tasty, plentiful and freshly baked. Will certainly go again.
Negative experience: I rang up to enquire about one of the services and the person seemed like they didn't care about what I was saying and was quite rude
Negative experience: I want to like the driving range here, but struggle to. The trackman system is fantastic and is the only thing that keeps me coming back. The biggest annoyance is the targets. They’ve taken out the old, well spaced markers and replaced them with a couple of flags, which aren’t straight inline with the bays, apart from a select few. The mats are screwed down so can’t be realigned. It makes the Trackman hard to use - the worst thing is you can see the old targets on the map! Also, the state of the balls is shocking, with plenty of them damaged and lots where the dimples have been severely worn down. That’s if you can find a ball machine that works - used to be 4 - now just 1 that works. They seem to struggle with identity - Christchurch Golf Club / Christchurch Golf Centre / Iford Golf Centre / Golfcatcher. What is this place really called? Wish they’d clean the entrance area up too, it feels a little run down and is often strewn with litter and cigarette butts - not the most welcoming. It’s a shame the recent investment into a gym couldn’t have been spent on looking after their existing facilities, it has such potential, but feels unloved.
Fantastic experience: Fantastic adventure golf. Love this. We had so much fun. We didn't play normal golf but the course looked good and everyone was friendly and helpful.
Fantastic experience: We hosted a charity event here, the service was excellent and the barbecue was brilliant. I would highly recommend hiding an event here.
Fantastic experience: Really friendly and also great for anyone with disabilities/ additional needs - staff very accommodating
Fantastic experience: Loads to do. Great value
Fantastic experience: Great course and great facilities.
Negative experience: I have just been for the first time with my son and i told the staff it was our first time and they didn't explain anything and it turns out I picked up someone else's club who happened to be mates with the director of golf I Never got told I had to rent a club or anything all they wanted was the money to play When speaking to director of golf he was an idiot who seemed like he was about to argue and fight me and had a right attitude and shouldn't be in a public facing job I will never go to this dump again When I said il email the owner he laughed and said it will come through to him first and he will delete it so the owner never sees it
Fantastic experience: The driving range here is brilliant. You pay £1 to rent a club and can buy the balls as you go, they do food and drinks aswell. It's a great place to go and practice your golfing skills, as well as it being very easy to keep track of what you're spending. Would definitely recommend
Fantastic experience: I recently DJed at this incredible club, and I have to say, the staff there were absolutely amazing! They were incredibly helpful and attentive, making sure everything ran smoothly from start to finish. Their professionalism and warmth really stood out, making the night a huge success. I highly recommend this club for any event or night out.
Positive experience: Really great experience, double level booth's and ball stations on both levels, there is a bar and food available. Recently went to a surprise birthday party and it's a great venue for that ,there was another party in 5he other function room and that was banging also. Brilliant place
Fantastic experience: Friendly staff. Good food. Well maintained crazy golf.
Thank you so much for your positive feedback, it is always nice to hear the team are doing a great job.
Negative experience: Have come several times to the driving range (at 8am) to find it only opens at 9am due to maintenance, even though the opening time is officially 7:30am. How frustrating!! Also, you MUST urgently invest in new golf balls, as way too many are still cracked, old and tired. How can any golfer work on ball flight and technique with the quality of these balls?
Thank you for the feedback Maxi, we have faced a really tough winter and the range has been flooded. For the last 42 days we have had to manually pick 25-30k golf balls because we have not been able to send the vehicle out. This has been done by volunteers and staff and been really tough. We can’t control the weather but we can only apologise that you were not informed of this on the times you have come in. The message has been out on all socials to say what we have been doing. As for the golf balls, we have slowly been going through them and replacing some but again with the time it has taken and resources to keep it open at all we have had to prioritise. We always have the Trackman simulators open at that time which not only gives the ball date but also the enhanced club data for those players wanting to get those all Important numbers. Sorry to have been a pain and we look forward to hopefully giving you a much better experience next time.
Positive experience: Only went to the driving range, which was ok
Positive experience: I have put 4 stars as I have only experienced the driving range and the shop and restaurant, (Driving range, I go for anger management) Staff were very helpful, Food is amazing Angus burgers but pricey lunch menu but understandable. In the shop the help was great as I'm a noob/new and wanted to ask a few questions and got a new grip for my driver's and super knowledgeable Thanks for great afternoon
Fantastic experience: Met friends for coffee in a lovely cafe with beautiful views and cosy fire. Also do food. Good place to visit and golfing looks popular there too.
Thank you for taking the time to leave a review, especially such a nice one. We look forward to serving you again and have a great rest of the week.
Fantastic experience: Friendly staff, lovely course, plenty to offer.
Thank you Keith, always nice to hear a positive! Enjoy your week
Fantastic experience: Nice place! Went to a birthday party here and it’s really decent!!
Appreciate the feedback Nathan, hope to see you back again soon. Doesn’t need to be specific reason to come and see us.
Fantastic experience: Used the driving range, pay per basket not too badly priced. Can get busy and be a little harder to find a bay some evenings (especially when classes are on). Staff are very helpful and approachable.
Thanks A… appreciate the feedback and rating. We are striving to get better both in facilities and service so it is good to know we are heading the right direction. We have new balls heading this way for early spring too.
Fantastic experience: Went to a Ladies that Latte networking event there, great staff, good coffee and cake, fantastic events room with views!! Highly recommended
Thank you for taking the time to review and rate us Jane. We pride ourselves on being a different sort of place to traditional golf. We love to see everyone at the club and the few ladies networking events are awesome. We have built strong relationships with Agnieska and think the group are fantastic. Don’t forget to tell your friends too, we are all about families and groups having affordable enjoyable times, any day of the week.
Negative experience: Played a round here. Unfortunately the course was in poor condition. Greens were very bumpy, long and needed some tlc. As its a pay and play, the round was lengthy because of non golfers. Fishermen wandered across the 4th in front of us as we were hitting our tee shots! No yardage markers.
Negative experience: Poor from start, took all my info and never got back to me, think what you will!!!
Positive experience: Not enough care taken of the course to warrant the new increase in price. This used to be an accessible course for the amateur golfer at an affordable price. The greens are peppered with pitch marks, there are about 100 range balls littering the fairway on the 10th at any one time. I feel like I could pay the same money for a much better experience at a number of other local courses. Coffee was nice
Negative experience: DO NOT PLAY HERE ON A SATURDAY MORNING! Honestly, we had to queue at every tee on the front 9 for approx 20 minutes. The gap between tee times on a weekend is way too short. Yes it was nice weather so everyone wanted to play but groups were giving up and going home after 3 holes. Loads gave up after the front 9 as it took just over 3 hours. We tried to get our money back after the front 9 and were told no. Luckily the back 9 was better because so many gave up after the front 9. Course Marshalls said they couldn't do anything, 'the course tries to make as much money as possible without thinking about player experience' were their words. Just don't bother playing here at peak times.
Negative experience: Gone from nice club to good open golf centre to a bad mix of both- can't make it mind up what it wants to be it seems! Not worth the £38 green fee for non members. Rough never cut, greens shocking - out at 9am and not one cut/dewy or brushed off - hence covered in fuzz I guess. Need rolling also. Tee boxes some of most uneven in the area. Not a top course ok for a knock around with friends who new to game maybe
Appreciate the feedback Ross. The course was in an absolute flood right the way through he winter ad most of spring. We had some of the best greens last year because we had the time to get them done before the golf season and this year has been tough, so we understand what you are saying. £38 for a weekend green fee is amongst the cheapest in the county for non member golfers and we do a great associate pack that gets you 3 rounds of golf anytime, with a few extra perks to make it proper value for money. Hope to see you back int he summer.
Fantastic experience: I really like this course, although it's pretty flat, there's some slight elevation on a few holes which can be misleading. I've played here stacks of times and with some low handicappers and it can be challenging. Some of the fairways are wide which is good for the likes of beginners and seasoned golfers alike. Also it has a fantastic driving range and pro shop.
Negative experience: Course is overpriced for how poorly kept it is. Driving range is very poor, golf balls cracked and split or caked in mud at all times. Tees normally broken or missing and mats are badly worn. Many of the mats don't really aim properly at targets which makes the trackman system a little frustrating to use. I have to visit the range late as I work long hours and the staff couldn't make you feel less welcome. They often turn lights out and screens off half hour before closing if you are the last left and leave you in the dark until you leave. Overall don't bother with this range, plenty of nicer local ranges.
Fantastic experience: Best driving range in the area
Fantastic experience: For a returning golfer after 25 year absence Pro staff are exceptional to the point I'm becoming a member
This is great to hear Tony, not only you are joining the club but it is because of our great team you are sticking around. Thank you for the feedback, we look forward to a great year having you on board.
Negative experience: My son and daughter in law wedding that took place 29th July 2023. The food for the wedding breakfast was very tasty and good quality. We were let down and disappointed with the service that was given by the waiting staff and the wedding organiser. From the day before when I dropped off the prosseco and the morning when I dropped off the evening buffet there was no communication with the staff as to what was happening. . The food. I was disappointed that a venue of this type can't get the simple things right. I have 40 years of catering experience so I have the experience to know what I am talking about.
Negative experience: Use to love iford course really affordable options however now we are looking for a new regular course you can now no longer pay for a 9 have to pay for 18 either way and payed 38 quid per person for a 18 yesterday which is ridiculous considering the condition off some off the fairways and how busy it was ruined our day tbh felt robbed, can't imagine being a younger golfer trying to afford fees it's ridiculous!!!! Literally cheaper down Queens now which is a better quality course in my opinion.
Fantastic experience: We recently had a team day at Christchurch Golf Club and had a fantastic time. We were approached by the team onsite to sample the new 'fling golf' as we were working around the course and so glad they did as it was fantastic fun. It allowed those who wanted to play normal golf to do so and the others who wanted to give it a go do so at the same time. We were also able to try their 4 wheeled electric scooters which were a great fun way to get around the course. After playing 9 holes, we were treated to trying some of the Head Chef's new dishes ahead of their launch, all of which were completely delicious! To impress a team who work in hospitality (including 2 Chefs) is no mean feet and they certainly did that. The team are already asking when we can return. Thanks again!
Fantastic experience: Lovelly course with superb greens.Staff are very polite and helpful.
Positive experience: Course ok. Bar staff were friendly but could benefit from some more training (not their fault)
Fantastic experience: We hosted our wedding party in The Kitchen Club on Saturday afternoon/evening and it was absolutely perfect for us. The service and communication with Micha from start to finish was fantastic and nothing was too much trouble. The food was excellent and very good value for money. Emily managed the venue on the day and she was brilliant, very relaxed and accommodating, and all the other staff were friendly and attentive. I would highly recommend hosting a party/event here to anyone. Thank you once again for being so brilliant!
Fantastic experience: We hired the Riviera suite for a family birthday. Amazing venue and amazing staff they went above and beyond
Positive experience: Good place for shooting range just turn up. Bad thing is narrow access road one way with No passing places WHY
Fantastic experience: Played crazy golf with my grandson. Had a really good time. Then lunch afterwards was very good in the kitchen.
Fantastic experience: Had a great round of golf with my grandson. Great fun!
Positive experience: The course is in ok condition bearing in mind recent weather, the cost of £38 for a mornings round is ridiculous, being told that the club is spending money on the course but when you have piles of poo on the 18th and shoe cleaning machine broken can’t see the money. Always been a £30 or less club and to raise it is crazy. Better courses nearby for the same cost.
Fantastic experience: What an amazing Venue for a 4th birthday party. Staff work really well together and with guests I would recommend the place to everyone you'll have a blast
Fantastic experience: Lovely golf course set in beautiful surroundings. Clubhouse having work done to it to improve. Driving range , crazy golf and an American Golf store all nearby...... golfers heaven.
Positive experience: A great driving range and enjoy using the track man app, bar is very small tho and some parts of the trackman can be difficult if not in the centre
Fantastic experience: Great golf course . It's not too tricky but the rough is hard to get out of in the summer . The greens are generally very good . Also a very flat course . So if you're having trouble walking hilly courses this is ideal for you .
Positive experience: Top place if I played golf this would be the club for me. Should clean up cigarette butts around entrance area
Positive experience: Had 100 balls on the driving range for £10....all good.
Fantastic experience: This is a nice course to suit all abilities, just so long as you can hit the ball straight.
Fantastic experience: Lovely environment, we had party in their lounge and we had so much fun
Positive experience: I like going here. Its a great facility for all golfing aspects. The golf course is challenging enough. The driving range is substantial and the crazy golf is, well crazy! Fun enough for all the family. Cool bar and simulator fun and a great family restaurant.
Positive experience: Poor drainage so no good after even moderate rain. Otherwise worth a visit. Can't book for 9 holes anymore.
Fantastic experience: I'm a member and love it here, a great course, fantastic staff and great fellow members. The course is improving all the time, the cafe and range are second to none, what more can you ask for!
Fantastic experience: The top tracer is brilliant and there are some great games to play. Good price for the balls and no booking required
Positive experience: Black guy on reception was helpful with explaining the memberships. Greens are bumpy; not sure this is only when they have just been maintained. Sometimes looks quiet but can be difficult to play the slot I want, then you can't see much of the course from the car park so extremely difficult to tell. I guess the staff must know who is on the course.
Positive experience: Funky, yet challenging, feeling a little need of some maintenance, yet good layout and time well spent, good time.
Fantastic experience: Busy but i managed to avoid 4 balls. Pace of play good. Course in good condition. Will definitely go back. Range and big golf shop fab.
Positive experience: Not a bad course but not amazing either. Typical Parkland course. Average hence the 3 stars. Two of us played the back 9 on a Saturday afternoon recently, and whilst the course was adequate, it has the potential to be great. The greens were ok, but again no more than average. They were a bit patchy here and there. £17 for 9 holes is too dear for the current standard. The moany, elderly Marshall would put me off playing here again. His gripe was that the four ball behind us were slower than us but blamed us for it and then told us to hurry up, but at the same time said he didn't want to rush us? Strange...
Negative experience: Man with afro behind front desk was incredibly rude and unhelpful, stating that we cannot just slip onto the back 9 if we pay for front 9 due to it being full. If the man opened his eyes he would see that the course is incredibly quiet and we would have been able to slip on. Worst customer service I've recieved here in the 2 years I've been a regular.
Fantastic experience: Staff was very welcoming and helpful. We used family and kids golf. The way how it's organised and build is very nice. Then you can buy a bag to wash through the sand and find little gems. We used restaurant and food with service was good too. Nice place to visit.
Fantastic experience: An awesome golf club that has a top quality range and very well maintained courses. It supports a variety of skill levels with pitch and putt to challenging 18 holes. There is a crazy golf course attached to the club which is great for the family as well as two bars with one serving a nice mix of great food.
Positive experience: Good to pass some time with the kids could do with a bit of mantanance looking slightly tired
Fantastic experience: Took a school party of 15 kids to Playgolf and had a great time. Staff were very accommodating and the Trackman system was great fun. Drew was particularly helpful. Many thanks.
Fantastic experience: Well looked after public course.Great set up with dinosaur adventure putting course, American golf store, driving range, great cafe with good variety of food choices.
Fantastic experience: Driving range is over 2 floors with a very good ball tracking system called Trackman*. Small bucket is around 50balls and Large bucket is around 100 as website doesn’t state. Bays are clean and have plenty of space between bays. Car park can get quite busy on a nice day but thats mainly for the course and not the range. Decently priced. Highly recommend this driving range. *Trackman is similar to Top tracer. You can get the app and scan QR code on screen to keep track of your progress.
Positive experience: Great range of facilities here, catering for golfers young and old. Driving range is good. Golf catcher is great. The course itself is alright in the dry, in the winter/wet it's really bad
Negative experience: Poor management. Footgolf and real golf on the same course isn't the best of ideas, but to schedule a stag group and junior golf competition at the same time is ludicrous. Within 2 holes we caught up with the comp and quite quickly staff approached us stating we could go no further and had to wait a considerable time to continue, even though we booked months in advance. One attempted resolution was for us to use the driving range instead, but when we got there that was full too. Asked for our money back, I'd avoid for a stag group.
Negative experience: The Dino mini golf course was ok, but for the money I want it to be great, not a nice mini golf surrounded by derelict, dried up water features. Can't recommend this place unless the sort it out.
Fantastic experience: New driving range with trackman is a definite bonus. Definte bonus to analyse your game.
Positive experience: Seems that be some new equipment at the driving range and a new seating area upstairs. Par 3 course is great for kids, good distance for 9 or 10 y/o.
Fantastic experience: Really great fun prehistoric themed crazy golf course! Really well maintained, clean and in good condition. A must do with kids (or adults tbf) of all ages!
Positive experience: I was here to check out American Golf, which is very conveniently co-located. Have played here before though and it's a lively nice golf course, upper bar currently closed it seems. Good value food etc in the cafe.
Fantastic experience: Nice place only played 9 hole course because of time but great for short game stopped at bar for a drink and a sandwich overall food was great and cold beer too will definitely do again as we were staying at meadowbank holiday park will do the 18 hole course next time
Fantastic experience: Excellent course fantastic staff food drinks very good highly recommend look forward to going back
Negative experience: Course could do with some TLC, greens poor, no definition in fairways, pin positions long over dew changing. Rough needs cutting, bunkers not raked, drainage sinkage on fairways. Bet it's understaffed and under funder. All looking a bit tired. However, it's cheaper golf, so can't complain but wouldn't join.
Positive experience: Busy local pay and play golf centre boasting a busy restaurant, driving range, 18 hole course, foot golf and American Golf shop. Has an adventurer centre for the kiddies. Attracts a mix of golfers, parties and families. Can get heaving at peak times. Reasonable priced for the facilities.
Fantastic experience: Really cool place to go play golf , good value for money aswell.
Positive experience: Cheap and good value driving range. Tired and in need of a good clean though. Crazy golf could be epic but the river was empty and in need of a clean!
Fantastic experience: Good way to kill a few hours at the range. Very cheap and deals are pretty good too. £8 for 100balls and coffee or £12.50 for pizza and golf!! Can hire golf clubs for £1. Friendly staff, and restaurant has good food options. Mini golf is really fun for the kids too!
Positive experience: Needs some TLC, and sorting out the water would make the difference big time.
Positive experience: A really good facility. 18 hole golf course and a nine hole foot golf course plus crazy golf. Restaurant on site serves good food at reasonable prices plus a good selection of drinks.
Fantastic experience: just started out with golf and this place is ideal. big golf range to hone your swing and a challenging 9 hole course when your feeling up to it. Pay and play, some busy times, so worth planning your day. Golf shop on site, plus cafe/bar....located on a service road behind Tesco Superstore near bmth hospital
Fantastic experience: Excellent crazy golf area for kids, not sure if you still need to book because of covid, but check online. You get score cards and pencils. Parking is good, you can use the grass at the entrance if it's busy, nice friendly staff ☺️
Positive experience: Very nice day. Buggy and good company helps. Course in great condition, greens quite receptive. Dont go in the rough though its brutal. Going again next weekend in an effort to get back in the groove. Food and drink both varied and delicious.
Positive experience: The kids enjoyed themselves and we are looking forward to going back to the driving range without kids in tow.
