The Wave Centre: Opinions
Negative experience: Today we took our grandson to clip and climb, only to find it closed On website it says it is open, but with fences all around there was no way in Very disappointed
Hi Liz, The Wave Centre is currently closed for redevelopment as part of the Maryport Regeneration Scheme. Our website does say that the centre is closed. The only website we have can be found on the link - https://www.better.org.uk/leisure-centre/cumberland/the-wave-centre
Positive experience: Decent little gym, only problem is the opening hours, would be much better if it opened earlier.
Fantastic experience: Fun hour out of the day
Positive experience: Good little gym has everything you need to get in a good work out the only thin it is missing for me is a sauna staff are friendly, helpful and they keep the place clean
Fantastic experience: Excellent family day out at the clip and climb. The staff were absolutely fantastic
Positive experience: Bairns loved the clip and climb
Positive experience: Kids love the clip and climb
Positive experience: We had a lovely time I. The soft play area. Very small and intimate setting, I don't think it's suitable for anyone over the age of 9 as the apparatus is small
Fantastic experience: Was ok daughter enjoyed
Positive experience: Quiet location to complete your own work outs with help full staff should they be required
Positive experience: Been here a few times for clip n climb My Daughters enjoy it and keeps them fit & healthy
Fantastic experience: Been quite a few times when the kids were younger and had loyalty card which was stamped up think its four visit's fifth one free . Went a week ago and couldn't find the phone number to book via telephone it's all online and the administration has been taken over by a charity called better no provision to use the loyalty voucher online so had to pay and create a account and download the better app . You can still use the loyalty voucher and they still stamp the cards but how do you use them if it's all online to book ? My youngest still enjoyed his climbing session and whilst driving home he said the door handle wall auto belaying device dropped about a meter at the top of the wall before it caught him and started to lower him slowly back down . Climbing a Great activity for kids well worth a visit if you can manage to book online .
Fantastic experience: Have to say a big thank you to Michael and his team for the great Birthday party that our son had here today. Very efficient, friendly and everyone enjoyed themselves. Would definitely recommend to anyone.
Fantastic experience: Great place to visit.
Fantastic experience: Took a Rainbow Unit. 15 girls aged 4-7 had a fabulous time
Positive experience: First time visiting the clip and climb. Lots of waiting about and half of staff are too busy having a drink, having a drink or talking to their friends whilst kids are stood waiting with their hand up. Too many children allowed on at once.
Fantastic experience: Friendly staff kids lived clip n climb and exploring the cave tunnel
Fantastic experience: Great party
Fantastic experience: Awesome place to spend some fun, active time. Love the Clip'n Climb
Positive experience: We had a lot of fun in a clip and climb session. 1 star off for the time it often took to get unclipped or clipped in meant there was quite a bit of waiting. Good variation of walls though. Our children, 7 and 9, both thought it was terrific.
Fantastic experience: Really enjoyed being here. The staff are great and helpful.
Fantastic experience: Good place to keep the kids occupied. Wall climbing, caving experience and soft play for the younger children. Small seating area for adults.
Fantastic experience: Truly an amazing experience for the older kids , really friendly staff.
Positive experience: We visited while in Maryport to while away some time as it was raining outside. Partner and son did a climbing session and had loads of fun. Great value for a 1hr session and there was a good variety of climbing walls to tackle. We would try the caving session next time we're in the area. Definitely worth a look if you're in Maryport and have time to kill.
Fantastic experience: Ok
Fantastic experience: Great little gym, has most of what you need and more keeps getting added. Only problem is, it's getting a bit too warm in there now. Need the AC on.
Fantastic experience: Good place to keep the kids busy for a hour. Really good staff also.
Fantastic experience: I booked for three kids aged 9 and 10 on Sat morning. It was relatively quiet and the staff were awesome. It's well set out great challenges and good safety video to start. A party arrived and as we were leaving it was getting busy. Kids loved it. Good value. Will defo go again. I bought a cup of coffee for two pounds and you could refill as many times. Handy whilst I was watching kids.
Fantastic experience: Brilliant day out with our granddaughters Age 10 and 6 They loved it best to book in advance busy cant wait to go back
Fantastic experience: Friendly staff and a really nice set-up. The indoor caves in particular were lots of fun for my little girl to explore. A large soft play area and some great wall climbing, too.
Positive experience: Love this place always have a great time However since you now need to book via the leisure centre and cannot directly contact the wave centre we can't go I have tried and tried to create an account online without success to book in for a session The leisure centre have been unhelpful Why does everything have to be online not everyone is technology savvy!
Hi Dee Dee Thank you for your review. If you email [email protected] we can sort bookings out for you Hope this helps
Positive experience: Soft play, bounce castles good for little uns
Hi Ronald thank you for your review
Fantastic experience: 2 grandsons, aged 7 & 3, always enjoy soft play. Both enjoyed the climbing displays, even if they couldn't always get to the top of every item. Also, difficult to get them out of the 'cave's as they were having so much fun!
Fantastic experience: I loved this place. My four year old great-niece showed me what to do, although I was officially supervising her. There was a compulsory safety video which everyone had to watch at the beginning of the session. The place was set up so only one person could be on any one climbing wall at a time. Each wall had a safety harmess which was deployed automatically once amy weight was detected on the rope, which then lowered the climber very slowly and safely to the ground, regardless of starting height. This was very reassuring (for me) although it did not make 'letting go' any easier (first time). I was terrified but luckily the well trained supervisor (with a little cajoling from my niece) managed to persuade me to let go. Once I had 'tested' the safety system and found it to be satisfactory, there was no stopping me. I even had a race to the top of one wall against my other great niece. She beat me by 37 seconds to 82. Strongly recommend this activity. Suitable for 4 year olds and 63 year olds alike (and anyone in-between).
Positive experience: Climbing is closed during school term time so all they had was some 'soft play' which was a bouncy castle, bouncy slide and some soft building blocks but enough to tire my 2 out a bit for our journey back home
Positive experience: The kids absoloutly loved this place.. such a great place to give them confidence in heights and climbing .. The staff are super friendly .
Positive experience: Kids loved the climbing centre
Fantastic experience: Really enjoyed clip and climb

Negative experience: Nicht cht gut
Negative experience: Needs more staff!!! 1 till this time of year is no good
Hi Simon, I think you may be reviewing the wrong place Thanks
Positive experience: I loved it because it has these walls you can climb and theres a cave you can go into and theres the gymnastics that's on a Thursday and then theres a gym.
Thanks for your review :)
Negative experience: The gym is good. However, the promise of easy cancellation is false. I tried cancelling online, received an automated email stating that I would be contacted by someone to take me through the cancellation process. This never happened and the monthly deductions continued. Staff at The Wave Centre told me that to cancel I need to go into the centre and cancel with a signature. Nowhere on the website is this mentioned. I would like two months’ membership fees refunded.
Positive experience: The kids loved it, excellent activity for a rainy day! Make sure you book before you go
Positive experience: A three star review means it's okay... I've been to the wave centre clip and climb a number of times with my child and it is worth it. My experience the last time was different to the previous times. On previous occasions all staff were friendly, polite and attentive. On this occasion the staff were polite but all but two looked bored and fed up, although they did their jobs fine. The safety briefing was the most telling... The first question was, 'Have youse [sic] all been before?' The answer wasn't listened to and the member of staff the just played the briefing. No 'Hello' no 'I'm going to play you a safety briefing.',were No nothing, the male member of staff just sat down and clicked play. We.were then provided with our safety gear. Except a number of people weren't because the staff member really wasn't paying attention and missed four people. He also was going to initially supply my some with a full body harneses which would have fitted and been safe but I doubt would have been as comfortable as the sit harness he was given as he is 6 inches taller than the height required. (I had measured him against the marker, but this was not offered.). We weren't asked if we had any questions (I had one as I had forgotten where the lockers were). We were then asked to just wait outside. Let me stress, there was nothing unsafe here but the disinterest has potential and is certaimly not good customer service in a front facing role. Once inside the clip and climb things faired a little better with two of the staff being friendly and seeming interested and the rest polite but disinterested. They mostly looked bored and whilst I can't blame them (it must be kind of boring although better surely than working a till) and the kids probably didn't know the difference, it was a shame. Another odd thing was when I handed my locker key to member of staff ( as instructed by the briefing video) he looked really surprised. He did take it but it seemed like he didn't know this was what were supposed to do and I had to explain that was what the briefing video says to do. I wish I'd not bothered and just put it in my zipped pocket although that would have gone against the safety briefing. The place used to have a nice cafe. It still has a cafe but I would struggle to calling nice now, so I won't. Would I come.again for the clip and climb? Yes I would, it's good fun. It was just a shame to see the staff looking a bit sad and bored and I couldn't help but be left wondering why. I would have given this more stars if the staff interacted differently and consistently (one more star) and if the male staff member taking the briefing had done his job better (one more star). You could go and have a completely different experience but this time it seemed like the place didn't have the soul it did in the past.
Positive experience: No cafe gym instead. A bit souless
Hi Jacquline thank you for your review. We do have a café and it is open 10am - 4pm Saturday and Sunday and also 10am - 4pm throughout school holidays.
Positive experience: Really good place to take the kids. Staff very helpful.

Fantastic experience: Great place and will be better soon.
HI Christopher, Thanks for your review :)
Negative experience: This is only a gym with no pool
Fantastic experience: Relaxed good crack nice drink great prices
Positive experience: Good venue, but am always left feeling it could do more and be more. I dropped star rating due to the appalling state if the car park which I watched cause problems for a few cars. It needs sorting if you value your customers.
Positive experience: Boys enjoyed a variety of different climbing walls all while safely attached
Hi Lynde Thank you for your review :)
Positive experience: Clip and climb is brilliant

Fantastic experience: Great climbing and caving experience for kids
Fantastic experience: Great place and great staff.
Positive experience: Good climbing, crappy cafe selling still frozen panini and raw chicken nuggets. Staff were like zombiez
Fantastic experience: Reasonable price, easy to book, staff were great and the wall's and equipment were excellent. Well worth a visit.
Positive experience: Good friendly service, great gym facilities but needs more variety, too many treadmills and bikes. Wish they were open later as they close at 5 Thurs,Fri,Sat, Definately need a mat area, overall service is good but needs adjustments.
Hi Denise, Thank you for your review. We now have a core area with mats, skeps and we are waiting for the delivery of our new kettle bells. We have also have new attachments for our DAP :)
Fantastic experience: Clip and climb is brilliant. Well recommended.
Fantastic experience: Loved it there
Negative experience: Dull!
Positive experience: Good facilities, nice cafe and clip and climb for the kids.
Fantastic experience: Took my my two children and niece and nephew on a Sunday over Easter holidays. Amazing how quiet it was compared to similar places in the UK. Was a great day out. And great value for money for two hours of clip and climb and the cave. They especially loved the Cave. Just the four of them with Zac. Zac was brilliant with them. Patient when they were worried and the youngest was a bit upset at first but really encouraging and they all LOVED it especially the youngest who is desperate to come back. Cafe good for drinks and we had a surprising very good day out in Maryport. Thanks
Fantastic experience: Excellent; our children love it. An exiting experience and a superb way to build confidence and challenge yourself. The staff have amazing patience, it's totally safe and really well organised. An hour seems about the right time. Worth combining with a trip to the close by aquarium.
Positive experience: Outdated website. Clip and Climb is 1 hour slot. Average place with nice, big coffee area for parents.
Fantastic experience: Good food, good coffee, great kids day out
Fantastic experience: Kids loved it
Fantastic experience: Really enjoyed clip and clime and caving . looking forward to going again.
Positive experience: Climbing fun and confidence building
Fantastic experience: Great for kids.... and maybe adult with the big kid inside of them......
Positive experience: Great climbing wall , but was a bit disappointed as cafe was shut and no way to get a drink , the vending machine didn't work, had to ask for water for daughter who was climbing
Fantastic experience: Great value and fun for the whole family(adults and kids)
Positive experience: amazing place for live entertainment & climbing wall
Fantastic experience: Crikey. If you have watched what they get up to on I'm a celebrity get me out of here and you thing you want to have a go then come here. It's the same except for no rats and other creatures. You have to do these huge jumps and climbs. It looks awful but then you see a 8 year old doing it.... its incredible. Great fur kids. Wish I had this when I was young.
Fantastic experience: Had a brilliant time here, the climbing walls were so much fun and the staff were great at setting challenges
Fantastic experience: Great fun, really helpful and friendly staff.
Positive experience: Good fun had by all
