JD Gyms Bury

Negative experience: Biggest problem is the sauna, for some reason staff don't seem to care or bother to turn it on at the time required I.e. at 5am - 5:30am so it's at the correct temp by 6:00am. Stepping in to the sauna at 6:00am or sometimes later and the temp is barely 30 degrees. Manager has been spoken to several times and to be fair she does say she'll be speaking to the staff but nothing changes.

Negative experience: I am extremely disappointed with my experience at the gym today. A staff member named Kail was shockingly rude, unprofessional, and displayed a complete lack of customer service skills. As someone who pays for a membership, I expect to be treated with respect, not made to feel uncomfortable and unwelcome. This level of behavior is unacceptable and reflects poorly on the gym as a whole. I will be canceling my membership immediately, as I refuse to support a place that allows such unprofessional conduct. A gym should motivate and uplift its members, not leave them feeling frustrated and disheartened. I hope management takes this issue seriously and makes the necessary changes to improve.

Negative experience: Katie who is the Manager of this gym should investigate first and then accuse someone of something.very un professional. Such a high rated gym if you are not professionals. Very dissappointed

Positive experience: Just been to the gym this evening for the JD Burn class, to be told they aren’t bothering to do it as there’s not enough people. How can you decide not to put on a class last minute while you have people stood there, when you don’t offer the option of pre booking classes!? You should be prepared to hold the class if there’s 2 or 20 people. If you have it showing on the app and you have the instructor ready to go, in my opinion you should not be cancelling classes on the spot, this is highly inconvenient for those who have turned up and basically shows that you just don’t think it’s worth it if you don’t have a decent turnout- not very fitness positive. An absolute wasted journey and very unhappy member!

Negative experience: I've only just joined the bury one and it said nothing about refurbishment on the website. So half the gym is closed off, and everything is sqaushed together with no room to breathe. It's just waiting for an accident. Would have been nice to get a heads up before paying the bill. I also didn't see one staff member to ask for a quick tour. I was walking around like a lost child trying to find a dip station, and I didn't see any dumbbells either. It looked nothing like the photos. I don't think I'll be staying here past the month I went for 1 day and haven't been back since so i tried to get a refund because it was within 24hrs. I've now given up on the refund they just bombard you with excuses and instructions. Awful company

Positive experience: Great gym. But a huge negative is the Music is the loudest i've heard in any gym and i've been to loads. Please turn this down otherwise i will be considering my membership.

Fantastic experience: Good morning. I love JD Gym in bury and it has been my favourite GYM since it opened and so far. The atmosphere is much more friendly then the other gyms in Bury. But recently a member of staff called Kyle came to me and asked me very rudely to put the way back. He was very rude and loud like a baby. I told him I still using it and I will do when i finished with it. The next day when I tried to getting inside, my app wasn't working as he disabled it. I have pressed the green button and stood there but he was watching that I need help but he totally ignored me and I had to go back home. This morning after a few good days I went back and he was staring at me and thinking of he is superhero and he could do what he can. I'm not a type of person to review such a thing but certainly it will help others if they comes across. It is not acceptable at all................... kind regards Sayeed ✨️

Negative experience: This shop is absolutely dirty in the changing room, especially on Saturday. I don’t know why gym members like to throw the bottle of water even there is the rubbish bin in the changing room. Absolutely disgusting

Negative experience: The fall off of this gym has been unreal. I have been training here since it opened in 2022 and I am seriously considering changing gyms. The air conditioning is broken most of the time, making the air extremely sweaty and moist during peak hours. The atmosphere is terrible; with you getting side eyed every 4 seconds by someone. Equipment feels tired and in need of some TLC The toilets smell and are musty. And today I went in and someone had left an un flushable log in the toilets . If it wasn’t for my job, which requires me to work up and down the country; I would cancel today. The convenience of having a premium membership is the reason this is a 2 star review and not a 1

Fantastic experience: Enjoyable place to work out, plenty of equipment and kept very clean

Positive experience: Good gym, good equipment, staff always friendly. Sauna rarely hot at 6am

Negative experience: Please sort out the air conditioning, it is very stuffy. Even when on it is cool in pockets of area as the system doesn’t oscillate, so majority of gym is hot and stuffy Plus as no tissues / cleaning sprays are supplied,. Members should be made to bring towels as some of the machines are covered in sweat marks. Very few people bring a towel . Hygiene needs sorting. The gym itself is brilliant but please sort out air conditioning and cleanliness

Negative experience: Gym is good plenty of equipment but the ac needs to be fixed it is awfully hot here especially in summer time like right now.

Negative experience: Been a member since day 1 but lately they have let it run down, air con has been broke for weeks its hotter inside the gym than outside then they put price up without telling you, they don't replace missing dumbells shocking

Negative experience: Walking in to this gym is like getting off the plane at Ibiza. No air conditioning on since last summer. Apparently waiting for engineer to fix it since last summer, must be travelling from the North Pole. If you want a sweaty gym with people’s left over sweat on the weights then you will love it here !! Absolutely ridiculous

Positive experience: The class timetable and instructors are great. The management team are really helpful. The gym area however attracts people who like to sit using their phones and take ages using equipment. Then there are the filming brigade. This is not allowed on the gym floor at another gym I attend. Its annoying, people have the right to workout without being in the background of someone's videos/social media posts. Then there are the members that like to hog two pieces of equipment while doing their 'super sets' . Again just annoying as they can get aggy if you try and use the one they aren't actually using (usually just reserving with a sweaty towel) Some notices around the gym showing selfish people some gym etiquette would be useful .

Fantastic experience: I've never really been into going to the gym, but after trying out several, I found that JD Gym in Bury is my favourite. On my first day, I got an induction where David and Carl showed me around. I've also started personal training sessions with Shannon, and she's been amazing at helping me build confidence and learn my way around the gym. I really look forward to our sessions. The staff are really friendly and the classes are great also☺️

Positive experience: I am seriously thinking of leaving this gym, I have enjoyed it until recently then numbers of young lads vaping in the changing rooms and this week a young asian lad verbally abused me and threatened me with violence as he saw me taking my gym shorts and putting my trunks on in the changing room, he then proceeded to swear at me and threaten to punch me in the head. I spoke to the staff on the way of the place, but will be very wary in future. I would advise more staff checks on the changing rooms!

Negative experience: I’m shocked at how poor the customer service is. I have been contacting constantly for 3 months now to cancel my membership but I keep getting charged. I have even completed the cancellation form but same issue. Whenever I call no one answer's or returns the call. I was intending to take a break for a few months and then come back to JD but after this service I certainly will never be going back to JD gyms! I love how someone has quickly responded here but have continued to fail to call me back or respond to my numerous requests via email. If you actually read my comment you would note I have completed the cancellation form but yet awaiting for the cancellation to go through and am still being charged, this has been ongoing for 3 months now. Once again the customer service has provided no resolution apart from trying to save face on their reviews

Fantastic experience: Amazing gym this..clean and peaceful. I'm still fairly new but am super happy..love that there is a sauna. Best of all, enjoy Jayne Deakin's classes, wish I didn't have to miss any of her classes. My fitness levels have levelled up, all thanks to her!!!

Fantastic experience: This gym is the best gym in bury hands down , the equipment is great doesn't feel too over crowded and a very pleasant atmosphere. One of the personal trainers Ryan is an absolute credit to this gym he goes well out of his way to make people feel welcome and relaxed . In my opinion he is without doubt the best personal trainer at this particular gym he has got excellent interaction skills with members and this is the reason I keep coming back because of staff members like Ryan. I rate it 5 stars but if I could rate it 7 stars I would.

Negative experience: Contacted the gym by email before signing up, waited for few days and no answer. Once me and my friend sign up, we were informed that saunas have limited opening times that do not match with our timetable. Music is so laud after 10 mns it becomes a headache. Some groups come to only mess around instead of training. And the changing room is a complete mess when these groups are present. £24 is not worth for this gym, will go back to my previous gym, for £11 per month.

Positive experience: Music to loud and didn't feel comfortable walking inside as a overweight 50 + Woman!

Fantastic experience: I was unhappy before about the parking fine and after I posted my review the area manager sorted got in touch. The fine has been cancelled now.

Positive experience: Becoming more a youth club with the changing rooms being used as a vape place Some of the cardio kit is now showing its age and taking long to repair the machines

Positive experience: If this gym wasn't full of youngsters "training" in groups and filming each other it would be a great gym to train at. It's too busy most of the time. The music is the same rubbish every day. The benefit of the sauna is great but I wish there was a ban on people wearing sweaty underpants in there. They sit on the benches with pants they've just been training in. I don't think I need to expand on what is seeping into the wooden benches. Please get a sign up or swill the benches with fresh smelling bleach every few hours as it stinks most of the time. Thanks.

Fantastic experience: Good equipment, staff are always cleaning and maintaining the gym floor and kit. Overall, for the money a really good gym. Does get very busy at peak time but plenty of parking.

Fantastic experience: A perfect and very busy Gym - open 24/7, After 4pm is Rush hour… Huge floor and all type of equipment and training halls are present. Only thing missing is a swimming pool. but if you joined this gym tou won’t join any other.

Fantastic experience: It’s beautiful gym to be fair. But only one complaint that there are no sensitising wipes or hand sensitisers. Which is shame for such an immaculate place and fully equipped gym.

Positive experience: Awesome gym with a good balance of weight lifting equipment and cardio machines. It also comes with very good parking spaces available due to being at a retail park. It also offers good lighting in various areas which is perfect for picture taking. It does get pretty cramped however but this can be easily avoided by coming early or at night times

Positive experience: It’s ”ok” gym. BUT, it’s been a third time in the past couple of months that’s there is no soap in the men’s toilet… makes me sick thinking the hygienic state of equipment I’ve been touching.

Positive experience: I left a review for the gym with the 4 stars because I Liked the environment in this gym and most of the people are friendly and nice but the only issue is the shower area always dirty and mess comparing for example with the JD gym Salford. I think the manager of this branch need to give more attention to this issue.

Negative experience: I'd of gave this gym 0 but there was no option. Parked up , went into gym where you enter your car number plate into system . I came out to find a parking ticket. Took to staff who said don't worry about it and if you get something through the post then don't worry about that either . Just got a ticket from Bury council so emailed JD head office who shrugged their shoulders and said take it up with Bury council. Well, I'm blowed if I'm paying that £50 fine , so me and Mrs will be cancelling our JD monthly subscription if we have to worry about a 50 quid fine every time I use a JD gym. Customer service a big fat zero. Update on parking fine. Bury council have rejected my appeal and I've still to pay the parking fine. JD Gyms sort this out.. Still no call from the Biry Manager. Shock

Negative experience: I'm updating my review because there has been no improvement. Previously, I mentioned the lack of cleaning products to sanitize equipment before and after use. JD Gyms responded, stating that cleaning products were reduced post-COVID. I strongly urge you to be honest in your responses; you didn't reduce cleaning products, you completely eliminated them. There are ZERO paper towels! This is absolutely ridiculous and unacceptable, especially considering the low cost despite the large number of members. Your so-called cleaning team seems to prefer socializing with other staff members instead of doing their job. Despite the gym offering great equipment, my overall rating remains at 1 star until the cleaning issue is resolved.

Positive experience: Definitely better than it's competitor across the road * cough cough* PureGym *cough cough* I've had to buy my own barbell cover, clips and cable machine attachments because not enough are provided/ are worn out. On the plus side, having your own stuff means you can live your basic gym girlie life and have everything pink. One thing that is pretty abysmal is, unless you love sitting on machines/spin bikes covered in a stranger's genital sweat, you will need to bring your own cleaning equipment of which a staff member said to me " that smells quite strong what you're using, is it necessary". It was only Zoflora. And the rule about not dropping weights is universally ignored, staff more than members, so bring some extra loud headphones lol otherwise they seem friendly enough, one of them retrieved my ear bud from inside the Stairmaster. PureGym would never have been that helpful. The main reason to come to JD is Jayne Deakin and her classes! Genuinely you will not meet a more passionate and motivating trainer - her classes are hard, they really push you out of your comfort zone but Jayne is there to support you 100% and the changes you'll see in yourself are priceless (... Well technically they're priced at £21.99 a month but you know what I mean)! Honestly it's slim pickings for Gyms in Bury, you may as well go to one that's decent enough. Even if they do hate Zoflora. *Edit* nobody from management did reach out btw... Still a pretty okay gym though lol

Negative experience: This gym is absolutely disgusting and totally unhygienic. I’ve previously left a review about the lack of hygiene and the blue rolls being removed along with cleaning sprays and got a standard response thanking me for the feedback which they would take on board to improve the service but nothing has changed and it’s still the same. Every treadmill was covered in sweat when I went in today and I don’t take a towel with me to wipe other peoples sweat. Cost cutting is counterproductive if your going to end up loosing gym members because of the poor hygiene. The gym isn’t even worthy of a one star!

Negative experience: The scale where suppose to measure yourself is broken definitely, yesterday was 85kg today after measuring myself 101 wow is JD running a scam with this scale upstairs or what I'm disappointed honestly Staff is friendly but this with the scale makes me questioning everything wow

Fantastic experience: I joined JD Gym Bury at the start of the year and I have nothing but praise for the staff and gym itself. Lots of equipment in great condition, plenty of space for working out and if I ever want to speak to the staff about anything (probably on 3 occasions) each staff member have been very welcoming. Personally I love going early in the morning, great gym.

Things that need improving - Music can be very loud at times to a point you can hear it blasting with your headphones on - Toilets need more regular checks, the amount of times I've gone in and there's no fill ups of tissue rolls. - put more sanitiser sprays in areas with wipes ect. Other than that it's a great gym to train at and the stage seem nice and friendly to.

Fantastic experience: All the best kit. Nice and clean. Always feel comfortable and everyone is pretty friendly. I've been various times in the day but like early morning best, 6-8am. Its tidier, people are more focused on their workouts and not too crowded. A wonderful mix of age, bodyshape, ethnicity, gender etc, it feels a really inclusive space. Plenty of classes on offer and a great team of PT's to keep you on track to achieving goals. I can highly recommend Isobel who I worked with for 12 weeks with incredible results
