Our comment from FitFit UK about Heeley Pool and Gym:
Heeley Pool and Gym in Sheffield is a charming community facility that offers a welcoming atmosphere for both swimming and fitness enthusiasts. The staff is frequently described as friendly and helpful, with exceptional swimming instructors that enhance the experience for children and adults alike. Visitors appreciate the warm water in the pool, making it ideal for family swimming sessions.
While the center may not be as expansive as other options in the area, like Ponds Forge, it effectively meets the essential needs of its users. The lanes in the pool are well-organized, accommodating slow, medium, and fast swimmers. Moreover, the changing rooms provide convenient access directly to the pool, maintaining a nostalgic ambiance.
However, there are aspects that could be improved. Some users have reported cleanliness issues, noting that the pool and changing areas occasionally require better maintenance. Additionally, inconsistencies regarding membership policies and occasional overcrowding during peak times have been highlighted as areas for improvement.
Overall, Heeley Pool and Gym remains a beloved local establishment, praised for its value for money and community spirit, making it a great place to visit for swimming lessons and gym workouts.

Heeley Pool and Gym: Opinions
Fantastic experience: Have only started coming to Heeley swimming training lessons for my kid and the staff are really friendly. It's not as big as other centres like Ponds Forge or Hillsborough Leisure Centre, but it has everything it needs. Staff at reception are both friendly and helpful and the swimming instructors are great!
Negative experience: My son has been to the swimming pool many times but when going to the gym we have had a few problems. He has a membership and has gone many times however, this time apparently the guardian also needs membership ,which no other members of staff had never mentioned to us previously.
Negative experience: The last time visited Heeley Baths the whole bottom and sides of the pool was stained yellow. I can only imagine what could stain a swimming pool yellow. They must not clean it too often.
Positive experience: Quite busy, but lanes divided to slow, medium and fast swimming
Negative experience: trash rubbish no point of going here useless
Negative experience: Went yesterday at 7am and there was a massive lug of hair at the bottom of the pool and bits of blue paper towel, so obviously hasn't been cleaned. Won't be using the pool again and will be sticking to the gym. Unfortunate as this is the closest pool to my home so will have to traipse to Ponds Forge.
Positive experience: Gem of a pool and must be kept open as it serves the local community really well
Negative experience: Stafff need training with etiquette, constantly disturbing personal gym sessions for admin issues that should either be sorted before or after sessions. Especially for someone who needs motivation to go gym, then you get there and someone comes to you with small irrelevant issues that they then state it doesn't matter will do after
Negative experience: Ok
Fantastic experience: Great place
Fantastic experience: Amazing staff, especially Lee .
Fantastic experience: Been using Heeley pool for 20+ years love going there
Fantastic experience: Had a lovely swim, was really warm. Like being in the bath.
Fantastic experience: Always friendly and kept clean.
Positive experience: The showers have no curtains on and very short push buttons. But other than that it's a nice retro place where you walk straight on to the pool and there are plenty of changing rooms. The lanes are a bit crowded after work so it's best for a slow swim.
Fantastic experience: Really nice and quiet place to go to the gym.
Positive experience: It's a nice, quiet swimming pool, but it shows its age. In the morning, over winter, the water should be warmer, as there are small babies and children's lessons and my daughter and other children in her class are often shaking. It should also be cleaner. In the past weeks, at the bottom of the pool there has been debris similar to ground building up and it's not pleasant to walk on them in water.
Fantastic experience: Friendly staff.
Fantastic experience: Lovely environment but the staff met today at the front was abrupt
Fantastic experience: Came here on one of the just swim sessions after not swimming at all for about 6 years so I was really nervous but I loved it! Simple facilities but they do the job, feels safe and well attended to, and the pool temp is lovely
Fantastic experience: What a lovely little Victorian baths. I came for a 7am swim this morning for the first time and loved it. You need to book a slot as they get filled up pretty quickly, but I think you can pay on the day too. The pool was a lovely temperature, and not over crowded with most spaces gone. Individual changing cubicles are along each long side of the pool, keeping in keeping with the history of the building. Did read some reports of the pool area being dirty, but going for the first session of the day was very clean. There is also a small gym on site, and by the reception area are some vending machines. Excited to go back!
Fantastic experience: Friendly staff and lovely old fashioned pool. There is a slight difference in the pool temperature in certain spots when doing lengths but this should be expected with an old and functioning pool. Nice and warm
Fantastic experience: Very good all round
Positive experience: Good for a simple swim but could do with improving toilets.
Negative experience: Old and required complete renovation
Fantastic experience: Staff very friendly and love this place! Good value for money for the swimming sessions and really enjoy the ladies only sessions
Positive experience: Good 4 the swimming lessons very old school pool with changing rooms leading straight into pool a Blast from the 70's early 80s cause if your looking for wave machines, killer slides and beach island scenes with cafe serving brevarages & food while you watch the kids swim for a bit..... Then forget it chlorine filled pool with steps to get in and out the pool plus a shallow & deep end
Negative experience: Really dirty, the smell shows that the changing rooms haven't been cleaned properly for months
Fantastic experience: Go a few times a week great pool
Positive experience: Its great that this place is still there, open and serving the community for a lower cost option to health and fitness. It is basic and has minimal facilities but it does serve a purpose. Swimming was fully booked when I cam here on a Thursday afternoon but it didn't affect things too much.
Fantastic experience: So happy to have a pool that offers ladies only, slightly pricey though
Fantastic experience: Such a wonderful learning environment for children... pool is clean n staff is v friendly...
Fantastic experience: Easy on line booking not to busy Good on price nice staff Overall always a great swim
Positive experience: Nice clean pool/changing rooms. Took my little one for his first swim, he really enjoyed it. Was slightly cool in the pool but if you kept moving didn't really feel it.
Positive experience: The pool is always warm even in the coldest winter. My kids love it here. The life guards are cautious and friendly. No photos allowed as expected
Positive experience: Nice old fashioned bath's
Fantastic experience: Great pool, friendly staff and well organised
Fantastic experience: Great pool great staff, found it a little hard getting to the carpark
Fantastic experience: Staff lovely, water warm and not to many people swimming
Fantastic experience: We booked a family COVID swim session and had just over 1/4 of the pool to ourselves. The staff were cheery and helpful. Great value.
Positive experience: As basic as it gets. It's a hole with chlorinated water in it. It has vending machines that rarely take my coins, and a changing room right out of 1992. But hey, you can swim in it.
Positive experience: Good place to bring kids, appreciate kids swimming lessons and superb service. Awesome people. No spa, no hair dryers.
Positive experience: Good location and not far to get to ,I do not have to pay bus fare to get to Heeley Swimming pool , whereas the Graves S8.I have to pay a bus fare. I am hoping you do a Aqua class at Heeley pool soon ,like the Aqua class at the Graves S8.
Positive experience: I wish they had showers.
Fantastic experience: Staff and Pool gym lovely
Fantastic experience: Lovely pool, relaxing time
Fantastic experience: Extremely helpful staff, great place
Fantastic experience: Feels very safe. For anyone thinking of going back swimming, this was my experience today. I would really recommend booking a slot in advance, you can pay online too. Get yourself a LifeCard from Sheffield City Trust - it only costs £3 and it means that all swimming is reduced at every venue (my 45 min swim today was £3.85!) Upon arrival you have to hand-sanitise and check in via the NHS track and trace app. You give your name at reception and then wait for staff to lead you through straight to the poolside - take flip flops, as outdoor shoes are not permitted on poolside! There are changing stalls at the poolside, so you can change before and afterwards privately. Because of Covid, there are no shower facilities. It is a small pool, divided in two - the 'slow' lane and 'medium' lane. I found that there weren't too many people booked in to that session. The water isn't too cold either so you can chill in the slow lane, or get going with some of the faster swimmers in the medium lane. No music like other venues, but all in all, it's a fab experience and well-organised. After your swim, you exit the back of the pool straight outdoors, so you won't get caught up in reception with the next group of swimmers!
Fantastic experience: Very well organised, lovely intimate pool, following restrictions well, £6 something for 45 minutes which is a tad expensive
Fantastic experience: Lovely little pool.
Negative experience: Very filthy
Fantastic experience: Great to be back in the gym
Fantastic experience: Covid safe. Only bookable in advance at the moment (from 8am 7 days before you want to go, but some availability closer to the date for some sessions.). Lane swimming or "family pods".
Fantastic experience: Great place
Negative experience: No changing room or showers ? In gym.
Positive experience: Great small pool. Nice separate changing rooms/closets.
Positive experience: Didn't actually go in but gave been before, many years ago, lovely place to swim
Positive experience: The swimming lessons are fantastic but the changing rooms are grim. They have gum in the corners and hair on the walls.
Negative experience: Good worth
Fantastic experience: Great! Friendly staff.
Positive experience: Good equipment and nice swimming pool
Negative experience: Run down, council needs to inject cash to save places like this
Fantastic experience: Amazing old school swimming pool/baths with all the mod cons ie gym etc. The woman's only session on Saturday was brilliant
Fantastic experience: Quiet place and reserved
Fantastic experience: Very good. Always plenty of room for a good swim. Very clean .
Positive experience: Best place to catch up on the gossip and sing nursery rhymes
Fantastic experience: Really enjoyed the aqua fit session
Fantastic experience: If you're after a pool with heart and character, this is the one! Our kids have their lessons there- FAB!
Fantastic experience: The swim sessions here are nice and relaxed .. lots of individual changing spaces. Staff are friendly. The pool is quite small though. Currently you should book online first and it feels quite busy.
Positive experience: Machine are not cleaned properly
Positive experience: A great nostalgic pool atmosphere that still covers all your basic swimming needs.
Positive experience: Nice pool, friendly staff. Mostly been for kids swimming lessons. Men's (possibly lady's as well, never been in) showers are in short supply, especially after swimming lessons, hence dropping a star.
Positive experience: Nice swimming baths that have been open for 110 years. Changing rooms need cleaning though.
Fantastic experience: Nice to see a old fashion style swimming baths. Ideal changing rooms at side with baby easy to get in and out of pool. Pool could do with being warmer but it was warmer than ponds forge a few months ago. Love the little sauna that is available near pool side. Reasonable price. Could do with a bit of tender loving care get it looking new again but if council get hands on it they would gut it out and to be honest it be a real shame if that was to happen. We need to keep some swimming baths to this style
Fantastic experience: Brilliant place to go to and the swimming pool is great
Fantastic experience: Very helpful and friendly staff!!
Fantastic experience: Lovely pool. Friendly staff. So easy to go no need to use lockers. Thank you.
Positive experience: Love the place...not much evidence of lycra! Friendly and no ageism. However the roof leaks!
Fantastic experience: All the facilities you will ever need
Negative experience: Been today had to get out as the water was too cold. I don't know how the baby class manage Babies crying maybe due to being cold. Please warm the water up
Positive experience: it was a bit difficult to park but that is what a swimming pool liked like when I was growing up 40 years ago
Positive experience: Not very impressed. OK......
Positive experience: Great for the kids' swimming lessons.
Positive experience: We go to the kids lessons there. Nice warm pool. Very good teacher. Handy adjacent changing rooms. Free parking. X
Negative experience: Wow, for the third time in two months I've walked about from Heeley pool with kids who are crying due to some incompetence, lack of facilities or general mismanagement of the pool. This time it was because the session was full. But there was hardly anyone there. Why are there not more staff? For a community pool it seems to do its utmost to make things difficult for the community. I only live a few roads away but I really need to find somewhere else to go. Swimming is meant to be fun. Is that place fit for purpose anymore? Maybe it should be allowed to die a death.
Fantastic experience: It is amazing
Fantastic experience: Good value
Fantastic experience: It is a great place to train, never pact, and the pool is a traditional pool.
Positive experience: Hasn't changed since I was a kid, changing rooms need updating, showers are useless. Will always be quaint though.
Positive experience: It has a very calm atmosphere here. It's nice to swim lengths. It also has a sauna which smells like eucalyptus. You just pay a bit extra for this. They have changing rooms all around the pool so you don't have to bother with a locker. The only issue is if you want to shower afterwards the water pressure isn't very good and there are hairs all. It's also a good price, about £4. Easy to get to and gad car parking nearby.
Positive experience: This is an interesting swimming pool, with its original Victorian fixtures and layout. Very interesting place to visit. I have seen many a swimming competition here - never any accidents and have also always had a good time with the family. The pool is small though, and there is no fun slide!!!
Fantastic experience: The Gym is exvellrnt and would thoroughly recommend it
Fantastic experience: Great place for kids and family
Fantastic experience: Havuz gayet güzel sıcaklığı yeterli soyunma kabinleri güzel çok hızlı bir şekilde giriş yapılabiliyor yanınızda havlu bulunması gerekir
Positive experience: Ok local place
Fantastic experience: My local since childhood. Always a pleasure to swim and workout here.
Fantastic experience: Lovley helpful staff, quite friendly pool. Wouldnt go anywhere else
Fantastic experience: Extremely friendly
Positive experience: Friendly staff but you do get a lack of quality training hence the price. Also making parents pay for a certificate for moving on is not on.
Fantastic experience: Brings back memories for me as a child used to go swimming with school, that was 46yrs ago.
