Fantastic experience: Best kit, best classes, best menu, best location. No other gym comes close.

Negative experience: For a premum club, this leaves much to be desired, especially when compared to clubs of similar stature abroad in Europe. The newhaven club has pretty average facilities, with none of the premium perks. The sauna and steam room are miniscule and run down. Also incredibly badly designed given every time you open the sauna door, it cools the whole thing down. The classes are impossible to book, 1000 dogs to a bone. Can’t comment on the courts as never used them myself but after a 2 week membership I definitely will take my business elsewhere. I’m surprised by all the wonderful feedback in other reviews about the facilitates. Perhaps they never travelled and used spas abroad.

Fantastic experience: Nice club. Not my home club, but went while on holiday in Edinburgh. Large, not too busy gym (went 7:30am) and good facilities. Take note lesser DL clubs. You won't recognise this, but this is what a rack looks like with all the weights put away in the right place. Well done Edinburgh Newhaven!

Fantastic experience: Brilliant sports club. Top of the range equipment, fantastic variety of classes and a spacious, comfortable cafe area with a tasty menu. Staff are eager to help and are always on hand to point you in the right direction.

Fantastic experience: Newhaven is by far the best leisure club in Edinburgh. Superb spacious facilities with genuinely helpful and cheerful staff. Really enjoying the Hiit Blaze, Cyclone and circuit classes as well as yoga and Pilates. All really easy to navigate using the app. The cafe looks out to sea and is great to relax in with friends or for a solitary escape. Sometimes we just come for lunch. Hugely popular with families at the weekend and easy going during weekdays. Loving It!

Fantastic experience: Been doing PT with Euan for 3 months now and lost 12% body fat and gained the same in muscle, while losing over a stone. Would reccomend very highly.

Fantastic experience: What a wonderful club Really Friendly Receptionist good pools & lovely showers. After a swim my son had a build your own kids pizza, happy monkey drink & a play in the soft play. The food came fast and was delicious. There's good seats just by soft play & courts to easily watch little ones. Great atmosphere, chilled Sunday afternoon with Gingerbread latte. Winner!

Negative experience: EDITING ORIGINAL REVIEW TO RESPOND TO COMMENT: The comment below from David lloyd that the sauna has been repaired is just false. I was in there this weekend and not only is it not repaired it's actually worse. Over the past week I'vev had to raise two separate complaints to management about the state of the sauna bench, which not only is still rotten through to the core, wobbly and structurally unsound but now also has (rusty) screws sticking out of it and top slats that are not even fixed down. It is so dangerous and unhygienic and management have had every possible warning about it's condition and continue to do nothing. ORIGINAL REVIEW: I’ve been a member here for a few years now, overall I would say the club is fab. Lots of very talented instructors, the new gym refurb is excellent and the outdoor pool is a real bonus. However the platinum members spa is an embarrassment. The material the steam room is made out of is not properly treated for heat so gets physically hot to the touch - definitely not the kind of thing you want to sit on. The real problem though is the sauna. The wooden structure in the sauna is completely rotted through - at times it physically stinks - but beyond that it is just extremely unsafe. It moves a lot when you sit in it and it’s just a matter of time before someone falls through and seriously injured themselves. I’ve raised this with the club several times and each time they just replace a few of the top slats on the top but leave the structural, load baring bits of wood untouched, which are the bits that are causing the real danger. It’s a lawsuit waiting to happen and I honestly can’t believe it’s not been taken more seriously. I really hope they take some action on it soon because I do love being a member

Fantastic experience: What fun the swim/run event was at the club a few weeks ago - thank you David Lloyd and Triathlon Scotland. Lovely seeing lots of happy faces (of all ages) crossing the finish line.

Positive experience: I have been a member a little over 6 months and so far it has been a great experience. The staff are helpful and friendly and there is a vast array of activities to suit the whole family. I mostly go to classes rather than the gym - however the gym has just been newly refurbished and looks to be all excellent equipment. The swimming pool is also great (indoor & outdoor) and our kids love it. The place is mostly clean like the changing rooms however the studio floors could do with more efficient cleaning. I don’t enjoy seeing all the dust and hairs on the floor when in a class. One other little negative is service in the cafe can be very slow to the point I will no longer order hot food. Waiting time is usually about 45 mins which is not practical when you’re in a hurry. If the studio floors were brushed more often and cafe service was faster then I would give the place 5 stars.

Fantastic experience: Fantastic club makes life as a mum so much easier to have a safe place to let them experience new things whilst I can exercise.

Fantastic experience: Nice, spacious gym with a great view! It recently had a refurb so there are loads of new machines and free weights, including 3 lifting platforms so you rarely have to wait long for one. Plenty of cardio stuff too if that's your thing as well as pools and a spa. There's a nice cafe area looking out over the Forth to chill out or work/study in. Staff are super friendly and always good for a chat!

Fantastic experience: We love the staff at Newhaven. They are friendly and go the extra mile to help. You see all the staff members pitching in and supporting each other, giving a real community feel which fits in to the area. Huge fans of kids clubs, new gym and swimming.

Fantastic experience: Thank you so much to David Lloyd Newhaven for supporting a three-way initiative with David Lloyd, Triathlon Scotland, and Newhaven Harbour Triathlon Club to run a Swim and Run event. This was an opportunity for male, female, parents with children and solo children participants to swim in the outdoor pool and immediately set off on a run in the vicinity of the club via the side gate adjacent to the pool. What a delight to see the look of joy and satisfaction on the faces of those taking part as they crossed the finish line. This event required all three organisations to work together to make arrangements, ensure safety and provide enthusiastic support for all the participants. Thank you to everyone who ensured this was a brilliant and successful initiative for all the club members who took part.

Fantastic experience: Great effort by David Lloyd Newhaven Harbour in hosting a swim/run event at the club this morning. This was a joint endeavour, along with Triathlon Scotland and Newhaven Harbour Triathlon Club, and gave the opportunity to DL members and others to participate in an organised event. For some of the participants this may have been their first experience of racing, and hopefully gave them a taste of what a fun and friendly sport this is, as well as being inclusive across all age groups. Watching both adults and children racing and coming across the finish line was fantastic. Thank you, David Lloyd Newhaven Harbour, for enabling this event to happen.

Full of enthusiasm, and clear love for what she does. No question too small, and even through she knew from the start this would at best be a sale through my employment and not direct, at no point was there a hard sell attempt. Negative experience: Dreadful service. Trying to contact them for more than 3 weeks and no response. Will not be bothering trying to book a tour. If it is this much work now, what if I have an issue after paying £100 joining fee? No thanks. Pure Gym it is I will save my money and be treated like a human

Negative experience: Do not join. I have been trying for 3 weeks to cancel my membership after 3 years and it’s been impossible. They make cancellation of membership very difficult.

Fantastic experience: David Lloyd Newhaven feels like my home, from home. Great studio classes, the very latest in gym equipment and amazing views. It also has the friendliest cafe with great service. A special mention to Will, Dillon and Grant who provide me with my fix of coffee and cheer whenever they are on shift. It is appreciated.

Negative experience: I'm giving this a one star because one of the ladies on reception is clearly a jobs worth and made me fill in a big form thing just so I could get in to go give my son some water as he's at a tennis tournament there. When we first went in the other much nicer receptionist waved us through with a smile. I asked the other parents who said they didn't need to fill in form and it annoyed me because he was only off for 5 minutes which I told her I was in a rush. No common sense from this woman and so yeh, in my opinion she did the company a disservice as it's this kind of thing that people remember. If it hadn't been for that we would have had a good experience of the place. David Lloyd make sure your front of house is friendly or you'll loose out

Was particuarly impressed with the friendliest of the staff, especially the woman who showed us round and disucssed potential membership options with us. I believe her name was Gilly, I think. Would give 6 stars if possible, great gym, great vibes, great staff.

Fantastic experience: I recently visited David Lloyd at Newhaven for a tour as we were looking to join a club that the whole family can enjoy. Gillian showed us around and patiently answered all our questions about family memberships. She showed us all the facilities at the club (including how to use some fancy cardio equipment in the gym I’d never seen before!). She took time to understand what we were looking for and explained the range of benefits of membership without any hard sell, which was so refreshing. The range of facilities at this club is outstanding, every member of staff we met was so friendly and the gym is amazing.

Fantastic experience: I’ve just moved following graduation from uni to and was looking to find a new gym to keep training. I was a bit apprehensive as I didn’t know if the gym would have all the equipment I needed but Gillian was very welcoming, showed me the CrossFit area and patiently answered the questions I had!

Positive experience: Very nice staff. Inviting premises, lounges etc I was interested only in the heated outdoor pool. Membership joining fee and additional fees rather complex, different information by phone from visit unintentional but adding to complexity. I suggest club maximises use of outdoor pool all year by a pool only option with an electronic fob allowing( non peak ) access to changing rooms and outdoor pool. a monthly charge and nominal joining fee. Current joining fee + monthly cost too high if not using other Club facilities which I dont want or need. A taster you are not using that may well lead to new full memberships?

Negative experience: Absolutely disappointed with the service. Despite paying high fees, we’ve experienced poor communication and a complete disregard for member concerns. Our gym was closed without notice, and the temporary setup is far below acceptable standards—old, rusty equipment and a lack of space. We reached out with our concerns and requested to use other David Lloyd clubs during this period. Our request was ignored, and we received no response. This lack of respect and consideration for members is unacceptable. We feel undervalued and ignored. Not recommended.
