Positive experience: Very small gym space for £28 a month. Full of unsupervised kids at peak hours during the week. Using equipment without knowing how to do so. Lack of decent equipment. Shower facilities poor.

Negative experience: My child has not had anything new to learn in the last 7-8 lessons and has passed the criteria. It feels like children are held back in stages to make more money rather than encouraged. I’ve raised before and had “H&S” and that other stages have priority (which should not be the case) in the pool as answers.no mention of the private lessons taking priority which is the main problem - selling out. I would not recommend swimming lessons but it’s the only one that I can make work with location and timing.

Fantastic experience: Going to fitness classes every Tuesday lunchtime, made to feel at home by Emma. She looks after the class extremely well and nothing is too much trouble for her to help with. The class is brilliant, some banter and cajoling but everything is meant with the best intentions of helping everyone. She helps those who struggle and praises those who succeed in doing the exercises. Highly recommended course to help the older and less able to get much needed exercise.

Negative experience: Quite possibly the worse service in a sports centre iv come across. Every time I take my 2 year old for swimming lessons it has been cancelled and no one lets anyone know. The receptionists even go as far as watch you walk past with kids and all the bags you need get to the side of of the pool to be told it’s cancelled. VERY POOR would not recommend as the staff are just incompetent

Negative experience: The gym was ok when I first started, it’s a small space but was tolerable. However, it seems over the last year to have become massively over subscribed. It’s always absolutely packed, no matter what time you go, morning, afternoon or evening. In particular, 4-6.30pm are now pretty much a no go as they have kids classes on. I’m all for kids training and being healthy but the numbers are way too big! It’s to the point you can’t actually do a decent workout. I’ve amended my routine to try to fit this (such as factoring in exercises that don’t require a bench etc) but even with that in mind the gym has become unworkable. In short, imagine a JD Gym but all packed into someone’s living room. Poor.

Fantastic experience: Great pool. Changing rooms are warm and clean, water is clear and clean.

Negative experience: The Staff: Sasha Haw (Manager) Arrogant and moody. Un-helpful and ignorant. The Gym: Small space could improve the quantity of equipment. On a busy day it is a headache to even get on a treadmill. Lane Swim: Excellent services. Space in the changing rooms are spacey and clean.

Negative experience: very bad place for swimming all swimming time in the school time and saturday and sunday time the swimming pool is booked for parties

Negative experience: The gym is very small and has minimal equipment, if you're joining and going just for this I'd recommend against it, especially for the price. In addition to this I had great difficulty in cancelling, with the poor membership system not seemingly processing this correctly and difficulty in getting help from customer service (except for a very prompt and helpful exchange with Steph on Twitter). Throughout my month here, there was also frequent issues with a lack of hot water, will avoid all Place leisure centres going forward.

Negative experience: Baby Pool times are ridiculous The website doesn't give you comprehensive pool timings. Goes up to a certain time then doesn't say anything. If the pool isn't open after a certain time say so. Or maybe answear the phone so when I try and ring I can find out what's going on. Because your website doesn't give info and your staff don't answear the phone I drive there with a child only to find out there is a class on. PUBLISH THIS INFO!

Negative experience: I have been a member of the gym for a year, and to be frank it is over priced, the equipment is dated, the gym is too small for the amount of members / visitors. If you're on the treadmill in summer you get blinded by the sun. If you go to the gym in the morning the female cleaner comes into the changing room whilst your changing / been in the shower which is super cringe. Too many kids go to the gym with little supervision / experience of what they're doing. Not a great gym at all and was guttered after I'd locked myself into a year contract. Oh and by the way. It is advertised as being open till 10pm and quite regular I'd go for the last hour only for all the equipment, music and lights to be turned off at 9:45 and then rushed out the building so doors can be locked at bang on 10 (twice the doors.were.locked at 5 to). Smaller friendlier gyms wouldn't do this. Some of the staff on reception are really abrasive and unfriendly. Avoid joining this gym.

It is well organised, staff are very helpful, knowledgeable and friendly and there is a good choice of equipment Both the gym and changing rooms are kept exceptionally clean. Only been to the pool a couple of times but again it’s well organised and clean

Positive experience: Was told on 5th time attending that my daughter who can swim a little wasnt allowed in deep end wearing her floatation vest with both parents there myself a strong swimmer at almost 4 mile last count. I think lifeguards are sat there bored that they rather do something and ruining childs fun

Positive experience: This review is for the pool facilities only, I have not used the gym. It's a nice clean and well maintained place but I cannot help having the feeling that the pool facilities are run mainly for the benefit of clubs and lessons. i.e the pay-on-the-door public are deemed less important, even if you pay up front with a membership or leisure card. The swimming timetable on the website is full of bugs and it is often difficult to get info as to when you can simply go for a swim, or take your family for a swim. For example, I last tried calling at 10am, Sunday 12 Jan to get pool information and it went straight to an automated answerphone informing me that the the leisure centre was closed. I suspect it more likely that no one was available to man the phone or the system was not set correctly. I understand profits have to be made, but it just seems that the focus is somewhat less on actually serving the surrounding community and more on pursuing guaranteed income streams than if it were, say, a purely council or community owned and run facility.

Negative experience: I’m still waiting to be contacted with regards to my membership cancellation. I had it on good authority (on Friday 4th Oct) the manager would call me today (Monday 7th Oct) and hasn’t. I will be escalating my complaint in writing to the relevant office.

Positive experience: I like this place it is lovely place to get fit.

Negative experience: Total joke with the direct debit system and try to cancel it and its like the invisible people. Pay on the door. Beware'iiiiii

Positive experience: I use the gym here regularly. The staff are very friendly and helpful. The machines are all modern and easy to use, and the room is well ventilated and kept at a pleasant temperature. Both the gym and the changing room are kept very clean and well lit. The wifi doesn't work for me, nor could I get any signal, so if you want to listen to music while exercising you will have to download it onto your device rather than stream it, though this is a minor complaint. The gym is also a bit on the small side with a small number of machines, so if it's busy lots of equipment may be in use, but this has never been a major problem for me. Would definitely recommend for the gym.

Positive experience: Try to use APP on phone, but it never works right and crashes, same for website, trying to book classes is so difficult, I nearly always end up having to call in to book, not very efficient. Apart from that the facilities are great and the classes (when I can book them!!) are fab.

Only thing stopping a five star is no adult swimming classes - at this time. Hopefully something will be introduced soon?

Positive experience: Use the gym in the afternoons when it is least busy. Staff are friendly and helpfull without being intrusive. Equipment and gym are spotlessly clean even though the music is a bit loud. Wish it had a sauna/ steam room though. All things considered though, an excellent and valuable local facility.

Negative experience: Very disappointed, I only have my grandkids at certain times and find that every time I want to take them swimming I can't because the little pool is closed or being used solely for lessons, and the big pool is used for lane swimming. I have seen the small pool being used for lessons, it takes up one corner of the pool leaving the rest free. Why do lane swimmers need all the pool, surely one lane could be left free. Why is the small pool closed most of the time,e.g., open today 2.30 to 3.30. Reason given is that it needs a lifeguard, surely they don't need to bring in extra staff for this. One of the existing staff could do this. Bought cards for myself and kids but can only very rarely get in with them for a swim. The facilities are great, just lacking the opportunity to use them.

Negative experience: Big place although not many machines, very limited. No sauna, jacuzzi or steam rooms which could have been incorporated into the design. Pool only available after 6:30pm in the afternoon to general swimming (after classes). This could have easily been built similarly to hillsborough leasure centre with its facilities and would have been a great addition for residents of north Sheffield. Such a shame it wasn't.
