Fantastic experience: Just love this place

Positive experience: Very busy certain days I prefer the weekends as it's quieter but plenty of equipment sometimes when a machine is down can take a little time to get fixed, water fountain and vending machines lockers and showers as well

Positive experience: Decent enough gym but because of the popularity it gets extremely busy. Would be good to see some additional machines and also a punch bag would be decent

Fantastic experience: Modern equipment, Massive Area, clean bathroom. Easy to reserve fitness classes online. Thumb up. Highly recommend.

Positive experience: Good gym, well equipped and nicely laid out. Can get very busy at times and isn't the tidiest of gyms. Would also be great if there were cleaning stations to wipe down the equipment. Overall quite good, however one of the female instructor classes are excessively loud techno music and the fact that she is singing over it on her microphone doesn't help it. You can't escape this horror anywhere in the gym so it ruins the entire experience.

Fantastic experience: I’ve been coming to classes at this gym for a year now, and I’ve never been disappointed. Every instructor has been knowledgable, friendly and encouraging. It is clear that a lot of time has gone into planning each class! The gym is always clean, and if any machine breaks it is quickly fixed!

Fantastic experience: Excellent. Friendly atmosphere. Spacious. Efficient and knowledgeable instructor explained the treadmill functions. Felt welcome.

Positive experience: Great place to workout to with lots of equipment and really good classes. If only the Aircon was working properly it would be perfect. The stuff say they can do nothing about it as it's certainly managed. On a hot day a spin class or body combat is absolute hell. 5 star gym in the winter/spring/autumn, sweatbox in the summer.

Positive experience: Went for the first time late last night. A good range of machines available. Place was clean and tidy. Will definitely go again. My only criticism is that a couple of machines seemed a bit 'tired' with bits that need replacing or had rust on them.

Fantastic experience: Great atmosphere and cleaned regularly with plenty of machinery. Perfect if you have any anxiety about going or returning for the gym, quite a large space so everybody is doing their own thing meaning no judgement or worry. In staffed hours they are always happy to help answering any questions.

Fantastic experience: I feel like I need to leave a review after going for so long... I've been here for about a year.. If you know what to expect with a budget gym you're sound... for a guy it's the standard - lads knocking about peacocking.. flexing half nekid in the changing room mirrors.. middle aged men chatting up girls loudly about the "shallow younger man culture" - all the while walking around nekid in the locker room thinking they're Zues or something... its the usual macho weirdness that might be more appealing to the voyeurists of our community, but you get what you pay for.. it makes a funny experience if you take it lightly, or slightly traumatic if you're sensitive enough. Clean though, damage is sorted regularly to machines, staff seem happy and approachable. It's easy enough to just get there, get done, and not feel anything negative, which is perfect for the price.

Positive experience: Large selection of weights, resistance machine are a bit scarce. Now for the bad. Poor gym etiquette, dumbbells are never in order or put back properly, bar weights are literally scattered everywhere. It's painful. The staff are friendly enough but it's like they are glued to their little 2 person desk. No indication or leading by example by putting weights back. If people see, others will follow. I left after 1 month

Fantastic experience: I haven’t been to a gym in about 6-7 years due to personal circumstances but today I made my first appearance back. Safe to say anxiety was holding me back a lot at first but I soon got back into the swing of it. No one stares, no one judges. I did my work out without having to wait for any machines and left feeling like a new person. Best gym I’ve ever seen!

Fantastic experience: I joined the learn to lift class with kamdi today and hit my pb deadlift! he made me feel very comfortable as i was really nervous to start with but he helped me gain the confidence i needed to push myself to my limit really recommend these classes

Negative experience: I have been a member for a lot of years they have just put my membership fee up when i questioned this they informed me I had been sent an email a month earlier I have checked all my emails back to the 15th December nothing received from Pure Gym, cannot talk to anyone have to contact online, not impressed

Positive experience: To many people between 4-8 could be bigger to accommodate for peoples needs

Negative experience: The noise in this gym is absolutely atrocious! The managers/owners don't seem to realise that there may be people in the gym with hyperacusis, misophonia or other types of sensitivity to sound - and that we want to workout in relative peace and quiet! The background music is fine and when the classes aren't on there isn't a problem, but the classes blast trashy club music at full volume and then the instructor has to shout over the microphone to make themselves heard. I wear noise cancelling headphones and listen to my own music while I'm working out, but I can still hear their noise. Today I had to leave five minutes into my warm-up because there were two classes happening at the same time, so there were two sets of music blaring and two voices screeching over the mic, it was just horrible. I pay my membership just like everybody else and deserve to be able to work-out in a comfortable environment. I wrote an email and complained about this a few weeks ago and got no reply, so I'm going to find another gym.

Fantastic experience: Very nice, large, modern gym. The staff were very friendly. Megan did my induction and it was excellent. 5 stars (Edited) I wouldn’t worry about snowflake below comment about being triggered. She/ they / it, would always find something to moan about to get attention

Fantastic experience: I've always enjoyed my visit.

Negative experience: Usual Pure Gym, Dumbells on rack all over the place mixed up, due to lazy people. clips on cable machines / lat pulldowns missing , you have to go on a search to find one. Been using gyms over 35 years and unfortunately this gym chain wants to call it a day and go into some other business.

Positive experience: Should review cctv on who doesn't put weights bk and increase there membership or ban em coz it's a joke that weights are all over place.. Had to start goin at half 4 on a morning just to get on stuff I need to use because it's limited and don't ever get updated but it's cheap and cheerful so it is what it is....

Positive experience: I’ve been going to the gym in general for a few years but have been going to this gym for about a month, the staff are really friendly and helpful and there’s a great range of equipment. However the classes are so unnecessarily loud and can be heard from every part of the gym! This makes the gym a lot less accessible for members with sensory processing disorders such as autism and ADHD because it becomes very overwhelming and can trigger anxiety especially with the shouting, and the super loud volume is just annoying and distracting in general

Negative experience: Awful for hygiene. Get more cleaning stations in instead of 1.Staff please do your job and make sure all hand sanitisers have solution in them shouldn't have to be asked. More signs to wipe equipment down after use is needed. The thorough cleaning of equipment is rare. This place needs sorting in these areas. We go to gyms to get healthy and fit not to pick up viruses and become ill.

Negative experience: Well equipped but super busy most of the time. Could be laid out a whole lot better. They've frankly given up on cleaning. Recently got rid of all but one of their "train safe" cleaning stations and that is often empty (no "roll" or spray). Toilets and showers bloomin' stink. Management and floor presence is all but absent.

Positive experience: Just the average pure gym. Get what you pay for but a lot of treadmills and steppers ‘out of order’ Cheap enough to not complain

Positive experience: Love pure gym been a member since it opened, Enjoy the classes but need more pump classes on a evening if you work full time there is only one on but three through the week on a day time doesn’t make sense . staff seem to leave & your messages don’t get replied to .

Fantastic experience: Love it here; even more so since they added more machines and class areas. There is something for everyone here and the staff are great. Should also give a shout out to the cleaning staff because the gym, toilets and showers and spotless.

Negative experience: The lack of natural light is the biggest downside. Dont understand why the spinning studio and aerobics studios are not closed off to minimise the noise during classes. This branch is the best one I've experienced though.

Negative experience: Way to busy for the times I go, classes are too loud and it's just too over crowded. People sneaking in together is also an issue, why bother paying a membership when you can sneak in with your mate. Wownt be coming here again

Positive experience: Every time I come here the free weights are a COMPLETE MESS. Other branches always have them tidy and in the correct order. Aside from that it's all good.

Fantastic experience: Decent, large gym. Good range of dumbbells plus plenty of space for deadlift and other exercises. There was a very helpful woman there who looked knowledgable and seemed to be holding the fort on her own. Unfortunately didn't catch her name. This was around 4:30-5pm on a Saturday. Just want to say, thanks!

Positive experience: Okay gym, decent number of weight platforms. There should be a volume limit for the studio, their music is often obnoxiously loud and can be heard over earphones.

Fantastic experience: Large, clean, good equipment - just whats needed.

Negative experience: Floor space and equipment are brilliant but 2/3 stairmasters are broken for about 4-5 months now. This is one of the largest PureGyms I’ve been to, and also is the one with the least number of working stairmasters. The one working machine rattles. I see staff conducting machine inspections but the machines remain out of service. Can understand there is a lead time but this service very poor.

Positive experience: Good friendly gym, but it takes too long for equipment to be repaired, seated cable row has been broken for 4 months now!

Fantastic experience: This is a great gym. Completely relaxed atmosphere, great value for money and non of those pointless extras you probably won’t use much (pools, saunas). Open 24 hours a day so no excuses about time or availability.

Positive experience: Very clean and well equipped gym. Not a fun of their membership policies (i.e. you need to call to cancel your subscription) but the gym at York is very nice. Edit: I have to take out 2 stars as I still try to cancel my subscription and it is super difficult. I have a core membership and there isn't a button to cancel it; istead, I was prompt to email the team to cancel it for me. I did, and just received an email prompting me to log into my account and cancel it from there... Clearly making it purposefully difficult to cancel a subscription which is annoying the least. Though please note it's not a problem with York Pure Gym, is with Pure Gym in general.

Negative experience: Went with my mrs as she has free passes with her membership 4x a month and she asked me to come with her, I’m a member of 24/7 round the corner and I can honestly say the quality of the treadmills and stair steppers are shocking at pure! Both treadmills I went on soon as I tried to run the belts were either slipping or catching because they kept on jolting so I sacked the treadmill off an went on stepper and soon as I started you could hear it crunching with every rotation. After 20 min I just went on free weights but I can genuinely say I don’t have any of these problems at 24/7, other then that gym was clean an wasn’t to busy.

Positive experience: Fair price. No pressure. Showers are tired now even they were renewed a couple of years ago. Equipment reasonable but some needs to be replaced. Overall very happy to work out here.

Positive experience: I like this gym. Pros are that the classes are brilliant for getting the most out of a session. The class leaders are friendly and approachable and its easier to connect with others. Cons are that it can be intimidating and a little unfriendly in the main gym as it is just so big, I am not the sort to go and get on a treadmill or do weights on my own. The class booking system is quite good and I've rarely not been able to book or cancel a class. More classes would be good.

Positive experience: Really good our gym actually, even though there was a lot of people still enough equipment. Plus the lady who worked there was constantly keeping it tidy making it a very respectful gym

Positive experience: Regular user since Apr2021, good range of equipment and value for money however gym can feel overcrowded in the weekday evenings and the free weights area downstairs is in need of repair. There are leaks all along the length of the ceiling where the benches are, with full buckets of water catching the drops. The car park is poorly lit and there are no signs for flow of traffic either, can be very dangerous when trying to park/exit.

Negative experience: First attempt at a class and it was cancelled last minute with an electronic message

Positive experience: Good gym, although can be very busy. Main problem is there isn’t enough of the most popular racks in the weightlifting area. Only two benches, which definitely isn’t enough

Fantastic experience: This gym is open plan, very airy with a studio for classes and another for cardio work outs, there are plenty of treadmills, bikes and step machines to go around and cleaning stations for sanitising once you've finished using something, love this gym

Negative experience: Like a youth club around certain parts of gym. Found it quite dirty (Don't get me started with Covid protocol), equipment not working or tired looking. As for PT... Dont reply back to contact info PG highlighted or they're not interested. Asking if using equipment correctly seems a chore. Easier to watch app how to guide... Not value for money. Place looks like it needs a deep clean. Especially when you've used other PG around the country...I expected better for York. No natural light, maybe this makes it dingy looking.

Fantastic experience: Returned to pure gym after using other gyms due to location. Like coming home.. If just wanting a gym without pool and the like would definitely recommend. Well organised for the current situation with good spacing. Not too busy, again possibly due to situation, be interesting to see what happens when restrictions end. And the best bit..The Aircon! With the red hot heat would go just to keep cool. Take a book Actually free WiFi that works.

Fantastic experience: Good puregym. Plenty of kit and nice and quiet on the weekend.

Negative experience: Looking to pack in within the next month. Too many teenagers using it as a hangout and not adhering to covid rules. Staff dont enforce or seem to bother. No natural light in the place as exercise studio has been built over only windows and means instructors will be screeching at the top of their voices once classes commence again. Place seems to have gone downhill over the last 3 years.

Positive experience: The gym is one of the better ones for the area the spaces feel under utilised though. It could do with more equipment and the changing rooms are very disappointing. The showers aren't great and the space is quite cramped.

Fantastic experience: Very well set out, manager Shaun makes you feel welcome and always makes time to say hello. From free weights to resistance machines, tons of treadmills and bikes, rowing machines and plenty of classes to choose from.

Fantastic experience: First time at a gym since the lock down was lifted today. Very impressed, Great quality equipment, friendly staff, everything spaced out nicely with clear markings for work out areas and sanitising stations within 10 feet or less from any location. I've been to about 8 gyms as an avid member and this is by far the best to date. Especially given the strict guidance and climate. I felt safe from the moment I walked in. Well worth the membership price, I have paid more for so much less in a facility. If you read this PureGym, I hope it makes you proud of what you and you teams have done, you deserve it. I will be there again tomorrow

Positive experience: I just started at this gym. Good equipment and lots of room to keep apart from other gym goers. Could use a couple more sanitising stations to wipe down equipment before and after use. Almost noone (except staff) wears a mask whilst inside, please be responsible people!

Positive experience: There are no tricep ropes at all in the gym! It is ridiculous. One of the staff yesterday just picked on me for not following social distancing while she was wearing her mask under her chin and getting close to tens of other people around her! I guess safety measures only apply to others. Otherwise the gym has nice equipments and the app is really helpful. I would recommend the gym but please sort out the ropes ASAP.
