Positive experience: Considering the size of Newark it's quite small. Newark really should have double the size swimming facilities to coupe. A overly complicated booking system that doesn't let you group the family together, so five different logins, which is painful.

Negative experience: Would of gave 0 out 5 stars but couldn't as i had nothing but problems and had leave because of another member starting an argument which nearly turned into violence I have been forced to use another gym wouldn't recommend

Fantastic experience: I had an induction meeting with Tyler, I explained what I wanted to do ( exercise wise ) and Tyler showed me what equipment I use to help me reach my goal. Very helpful with the questions I asked .

Negative experience: A decent sports centre with good parking. The building and grounds are owned by Newark and Sherwood District Council. I would still be a member if only it had reasonable opening hours (like they used to have). Many working people are unable to benefit from the sports centre as it closes so early. I've written to councillors and the sports centre management to suggest reinstating longer hours only to be told they open "in line with customer demand'. So Newark is left with a good sports centre standing with locked doors after 9pm during the week when other Newark gyms are busy. It is also closed every bank holiday when the place could be full of customers. "In line with customer demand" - I'm not convinced.

Negative experience: It is absurd, they build new huge building and not made a sauna/steam room/jacuzzi(( in other cities almost all even small sport centres has this facilities.

Fantastic experience: Great facility with free on site parking. Outstanding swimming pool with clean changing rooms & showers (even a swimsuit spinner). Friendly smiley staff which is always a bonus. For me a 5* experience.

Negative experience: Services offered seem brilliant for what I’m looking for. However, when calling to enquire I received extremely poor, rude and argumentative customer service from the receptionist. I enquired about being able to book a visit to look around there pool and gym facilities in person, to which the receptionist became very rude to me when explaining the steps involved with having a taster day or purchasing a membership. As she stated I appeared to have misunderstood her and because she requested I book via their app, which I explained I didn’t have access to due to an error message I was receiving when trying to set this up. In the end I had to cut the call sort as I realised I wasn’t going to get anywhere with that member of staff in particular. I eventually called back a few days later and spoke to somebody else that explained how they usually set up taster sessions or memberships, which seemed much more straight forward that what the original receptionist I spoke to tried to explain- it appeared she had over complicated something that was relatively straight forward. As my initial experience was to receive very hostile customer service over a potential membership equity. This has overall put me off having a membership and I ended up going elsewhere.

Fantastic experience: Love it , staff are really friendly and helpful. I used to think larger gyms were intimidating however not this one , all shapes, sizes and abilities which makes me feel less self conscious love it .

Negative experience: Not long moved to newark and trying to join a gym. Tried going in for a trial and potentially join and was told to either pay £24 for a day pass or fill out a form online to get a trial. Filled out the form and no one has gotten back to me, rang up within hours and no one has answered.

Fantastic experience: Had a swim with my children recently, we had the whole pool to ourselves. Staff were lovely, changing rooms were nice and clean. Can't complain.

Fantastic experience: Absolutely love it here. I've lived in lots of different places and signed up at many different gyms, this one is heads and shoulders above the rest and far cheaper. It is an amazing facility, so much equipment and it is even better after the extension. Some staff are so lovely. I'm not too sure of the man's name on reception but he is blonde with glasses and so helpful. Also Michael in the gym is so friendly. I would recommend this to anyone!

Negative experience: Well equipped gym for sure. However the designers of the place ought to have their a$$ removed. Changing rooms couldn't be further from the gym if they tried. Lockers are too small and OUTSIDE of the changing rooms. Who thought that was a good idea?! Remember a lot of people who work train at lunch. Where do they hang their shirts/skirts/trousers etc that won't get all creased up? Most other gyms i've been to have taller lockers with hangers in for this very reason. Bit poor really and has put me off joining.

Fantastic experience: Didn't know this centre was here. Was told it had been open at least 2 year. It's clean, tidy and well stocked with everything you can imagine in a gym. There is also a swimming pool on site. It boasts being part of the Active group, and is also used my council run groups is falls prevention.

Fantastic experience: I only visit here as a volunteer for school swimming, but has great facilities and brilliant staff.

Positive experience: Pleasant staff, very involved when teaching, making sure the student understands what they have to do.

Fantastic experience: Very clean facilities ranging from multi-use indoor sports courts, to two swimming pools, and a kitted out gym upstairs, as well as function catering, and a tiny little soft play to keep the kids entertained if you arrive 10 minutes early.

Fantastic experience: Update 16.01.24. Been back about 3-4 months now and it's still very good. Looking forward to cheaper rates when I'm 60 ! What do you mean 'no cheaper rates! I don't believe it!' Back after 4 years away (Covid and post covid sloth). "Oh bugger!" says I. Can't get my old details to work AND I've now got to have my photo taken, PLUS, go for the obligatory Induction 'AGAIN!' (read in a Victor Meldrew styleee!). Went at about 11.30. By 12.15 the staff had managed to get me totally sorted and I'm now free to continue torturing myself! Things did fall right re: appointment slots etc BUT they seemed to want to get things right and serve me as well as possible......which, in my view, they did! Thanks guys.

Positive experience: Staff are friendly and the people that go on the lane swims are also to, The cubicles could do with updating as far as the doors opening with the slightest bang, Great place

Fantastic experience: Very clean facility. Staff are friendly upon arrival. We visit only for swimming as the learner pool is varying depth- excellent for those just starting out. For swimming there are a limited number of family changing cubicles, but the normal ones are ample in size. Swimming costume dryer and hair dryer available. Lockers use £1 coin and are a good size.

Positive experience: Love pushing memberships on you, Public swim had changed to lane swim, training pool is basically just a kids pool but I tryed my best as I'm recovering from surgery anyways. Might go again on a less busy day.

Negative experience: I have been trying all morning to ring this place, so far 10 calls between 9am and 10am and no-one answers! There's a ridiculous voice message claiming they are all busy. Seriously, I've been and they're not that busy that they can't pick up the phone. What if it's an emergency. Newark Active sort yourselves out. Bad customer service!!!!

Negative experience: Children's activities poorly managed. From tennis to Ballet and Swimming, they are constantly making mistakes, not telling people the sessions are cancelled, putting kids in the wrong groups. Instructors are frequently missing sessions. Front desk seem to be out the loop.

Fantastic experience: Have been attending this leisure centre to swim recently following an injury to my back. It is a lovely place with friendly staff, particularly on reception. I was using the North hykeham pool, however this one is so much more welcoming. Changing rooms are kept very clean. Definitely recommend!

Positive experience: Accompanied school swimming lesson. Really clean, open, airy space. Instructors friendly and patient with the children. Changing area toilet open to the public so need to watch and make the children wait until they are empty. Not good. Hence only 4 stars.

Fantastic experience: Massive leisure facility close to centre of Newark. Swimming pools, several gym areas, including one with bikes, cross trainers, free weights, resistance machines. There is a lot of very nice equipment. Always classes going on and lots of activities to choose from. Staff are excellent, always helpful, with qualified trainers on hand. Prices are reasonable. All areas are clean. I have never seen it overcrowded, or been unable to use chosen equipment. Highly recommended.

Negative experience: This leisure centre is an absolute joke. They are incapable of answering a phone. The online booking system doesn’t work properly. The staff have no people skills. How can you run a business like this.

Fantastic experience: Great to be back at Newark Judo Club in the Leisure Centre. We practice in the main hall on Tuesdays from 7:30pm. There's a badminton and a fencing group that practice in there too. The judo group is for all ages from 5 years up.

Negative experience: Same as most places ..don't know why they advertise a contact number..no one answers so you can't get the info you need ...pants

Fantastic experience: Southwell leisure centre is an excellent place for many activities. Well maintained and staffed. I play squash here a couple of times a week.

Positive experience: The sports centre has been better recently. They have been keeping the venue safe for visitors.. Staff are pleasant and helpful. The car park is still dangerous by people driving too fast from the sports hub. Maybe it's time for some speed bumps.

Positive experience: Disappointed, booked online for small pool so assumed price would be atleast for 1 adult and 1child, no option to add another person, to get there today to find I had to pay for my daughter, no change allowed for lockers, and also only a square of the pool, so full price for a small square of the pool, , but on the plus it was clean

Fantastic experience: Great gym, wouldn't go anywhere else. The only thing that pisses me off is when people don't wash down their equipment after they have used them haha.

Negative experience: family pool is great but social distancing controls are a farce. Although the pool is divided up for family swimming sessions, because no families were being given any guidance it is essentially a free for all with attendants just looking on. Also, nobody picks up the phone or responds to emails. Unacceptable.

Negative experience: Gym is dirty and barely any members bother to follow COVID guidelines of cleaning equipment or social distancing. Big groups of 4 or 5 people often working out together too. Lots of equipment out of order, including the only water fountain - I was told just to use the sink in the disabled changing rooms. Equipment is old and rickety. I joined this gym as it was the only one in the area offering Les Mills classes however today I have been informed that Sports Direct as a company no longer offer Les Mills classes despite this still being offered on their website. Would have joined another gym if I knew this was the case.

Negative experience: Receptionist likes to talk to children with an attitude, needs some retraining, chatting to staff and ignoring paying customers.

Fantastic experience: A lot better now they have got rid of the big stones restricting the entrance. Just note that if you have a high vehicle you will have to buzz reception to gain entrance. Clean changing rooms and decent facilities

Fantastic experience: Still the best all round gym in newark , staff constantly cleaning and making sure antibacterial spray and wipes available for all members who want gyms to stay open during covid , great and helpful staff always on board for help and advice. And still not to busy until around 1700.

Negative experience: When you book a new yoga, pilates etc. class, no one checks if you have any experience or existing health conditions that might effect your ability to do the class. The class instructor is unaware that you are new to the class. There is not a system in place to tell the instructor someone new is starting. You feel nervous because you are new to the class plus you find the level of it too high for you to participate, it makes you feel bad about yourself because you are unable to keep up with the rest of the group. They are experienced, you are not. No information is given what to expect when you book the class.

Positive experience: Great place to work out. Lots of staff willing to help and assist. Selection of classes and facilities. Only issue is that evening classes can be disruptive to working out and hearing the gym music.

Positive experience: Alright gym not brilliant not awful gets very crowded after New Years, but for the rest of the year there are always machines free. They have free WiFi but is closed off at six. Been there for two years and I've never had a problem.

Fantastic experience: First time visiting this venue today and we absolutely loved it. Childrens pool was fantastic with plenty of floats and everywhere was so clean. Definitely recommend and we will be returning!

Negative experience: Myself and my wife experienced problems with the afternoon lane swim. Groups of people standing at the head of the lane, in the middle and at the top of the lane. Sometimes slowly swimming from one end to the other 2 or 3 abreast. This obviously causes problems for people like myself and my wife, who joined for exercise and therapy. We reported this to the front desk 3 times and to the lifeguard. On one occasion an elderly lady was kicked in the thigh because of frustration and overtaking. We cancelled our membership as nothing was being resolved, and also was becoming a health and safety issue. I e-mailed on 30/11/19, reply was "you owe us £17.00 each for cancelling". I replied and refused explaining why. 5/12/19 Mr Flatt membership assistant replied, we will waiver £17.00 but if you want to re-join you will have to pay £17.00 in addition. I answered explaining " health and safety issues " and we were wasting our money. Mr Flatt has not replied. Due to the "customer care/service" (if you could call it that) that i received, i would highly recommend anyone thinking of joining everyone active to seek another facility that cares about and takes their customers comments seriously. Positive experience: I like the different membership options and the trainers are great, always helpful and nice. The swimming pool should have separate showers for genders in the pool as you're not able to fully wash if you're having to wash at the poolside in front of everyone. It's difficult to get through on the phone and whoever is supposed to be answering the enquiries email doesn't seem to do so promptly if at all.

Negative experience: Good facilities. Not happy that you have to sign up for a minimum of 9 months - even for teenage kids, who generally go once or twice then get fed up and you're stuck with a contract you can't get out of. The only other option is pay on a monthly basis, with exorbitant fees.
