Ystradgynlais Sports Centre

Fantastic experience: Great sports centre with a very clean pool perfect for swimming and kayak training. Clean changing rooms, toilets and showers. I forgot a wetsuit last week in the changing room and they kept it for me and was so nice when I picked it up. Very friendly staff!! Thank you!!

Fantastic experience: Was in Wales for 2 weeks and needed a Gym Membership. Super helpful and frendly staff sorted me out. Great facilities, well maintained and clean. Cameron Phillips is due a promotion I strongly recommend getting a membership there.

Positive experience: Nice and polite staff. Gym is very small with limited equipment. Opening times aren't sufficient for people working typical shifts, particularly on the weekend.

Fantastic experience: Had to review the dedication professionalism and teamwork demonstrated by Cameron Hayley and Natalie in tonight 15/06 freedom pump class. There was an equipment malfunction, but due to their commitment the class was able to go ahead. You are lucky to have such awesome staff on your team. Well done guys and Thank you. You all made me smile.

Negative experience: This sports centre has really gone down hill! Cleanliness is awful (covid is still out there!!) from changing rooms to swimming pool and don’t get me started on the gym. If you’re looking for somewhere to take out a swim membership this is not the place. There’s barely any scheduled time where you can go in for a public swim, unless you do not work and you can go in the day! The once friendly staff seem to have been largely replaced with moody teenagers with not as much as a ‘hello’ when you pass. Considering it is run by a non profit company they seem to be taking it in without thinking about the service they provide! It is no longer cheap here and there are much more competitive, clean and friendly places around

Fantastic experience: My grandson had toddlers water confidence swimming lessons. He absolutely enjoyed the lesson. Didn't want to get out of the pool. Lovely sing-a-long action songs to help the children "play" and build confidence.

Positive experience: The Gym has been recently renovated and has a great variety of machines and equipment. Staff are very helpful and friendly but some of the facilities, especially the pool and sauna, could really use an update. Scheduling for swimming groups is frustrating as lane swim is a minor consideration. I would not recommend the pool if you want to swim seriously. The gym could really benefit from a wooden wall rack for warm ups and cool downs. The lockers in the swimming pool cost 20p, just a heads up.

Positive experience: Compared to other freedom leisure gyms it's like the poor relation. The new gym is lovely with new equipment but it's hardly state of the art. It's a shame they've not invested in spin bikes with option of my Ride.

Negative experience: Not the best equipped gym. Other facilities in the Freedom Leisure franchise in Wales seem to get better equipment, Brecon seem to have preferential spending compared to Ystradgynlais.

Positive experience: Thw pool and gym are good facilities and the range of classes is quite good. However. Changing facilities are largely group facilities. There is a pay to use hair dryer in the ladies changing rooms. Lockers require a pound coin. The gym is in a separate building from the pool and reception.
