Newbury Better Health & Fitness Centre

Fantastic experience: Mario was the loveliest person today, he listened to me and gave me a great deal for my needs. He made making a subscription very easy for me than it actually is, and he earned a long-term customer to the organization. I loved BST Fitness anyway, but he really made a difference. Thanks Mario!

Fantastic experience: I've been to a few gyms and Better is the best I've ever been to. It has a pool and all the equipment you would need. It's very welcoming with experienced staff who go above and beyond to help. They have 'senior' classes and accommodate all the various problems that come with age. Sarah and Vic who take the classes are amazing and it's not just older people who come to their classes regularly! I've been having swimming lessons with Georgia who has lots of patience and I'm almost there! I can highly recommend her.

Positive experience: Not the best in my opinion, has a small pool and only oke squat rack and smith machine, pure gym is more affordable and has significantly better equipment

Fantastic experience: Came in at the weekend with my guide dog for the first time. Guys on the desk (Mario and will ) were fantastic. Definitely gonna get a membership thanks to these guys.

Fantastic experience: Easy access into your favourite fitness classes and exercises. Fast and clear booking. There is a parking for customers, so you are not worried about parking spaces. You can find there a gym, swimming pool, sauna and fitness classes, whenever you preferred. I've had my first time with Zumba fitness. I was afraid, but totally necessary. Teacher was so kind and understanding. I've had smile on my face all time, because I didn't know steps. Who cares, it was worth, that way how you was feeling after session.. it was incredible, my face was red but happy. Thank you

Fantastic experience: Made use of the swimming pool whilst staying in Newbury with my family. We found the staff to be helpful & friendly especially Tom who I chatted to about his time surfing in Cornwall (where I am from). Swimming pool & changing room was clean, & prices are reasonable. Highly recommend if you want a dip with the kids for an hour.

Positive experience: Good beginner gym, usually nice and quiet when I go at lunchtimes. Main downside is the equipment is very outdated.

Negative experience: Clean, but poorly managed, and I expect that being run by those clowns at Better will only make things worse in the long run.

Fantastic experience: This is a particularly welcoming gym with receptionists all noticably helpful, polite and approachable. The pool feels clean and is limited to 5 people per 50 minute session, and the sauna is in good condition and well maintained. The classes are fantastic (exhausting) and I find the Body Pump and Cycling classes particularly useful - the former for weight management and toning, and the latter for building stamina. Staff are kind and approachable. My only problems for me have been swimmers' ear, and it would be useful if there was a lesson showing you how to participate (ie in weight lifting etc), rather than just letting you copy what you see. The carpark is free, well-maintained and free of pot-holes. It could be better lit at night though. If you choose to attend classes, especially at first, it's best to show up 5-10 minutes early to introduce yourself to the teacher and know what to set up and how to do so.

Fantastic experience: My membership had to be changed so I could carry on using the gym now I’m not a student. In Basingstoke they just told me to go home and sort it out myself but in newbury, Tom helped me and even got me service quicker than I could on my own. Great gym and amazing staff!

Positive experience: BST has changed hands to BETTER, and the hand over has been terrible!!!! They changed the swim times without informing any parent's in our class. And now we find out that our child can have any of three teachers, not the same one. These are all cost savings exercises from the new management with no customer consideration. Proceed with caution.

Fantastic experience: Not too expensive, lots of equipment and not crowded in the daytime.

Fantastic experience: Reasonably priced gym, well equipped, good range of classes, small swimming pool and sauna. I’ve used a couple of their personal trainers (Codrina & Justyna) and both are excellent and not expensive if you book a block of 10 lessons. The car park can get a little busy during the children’s swimming classes and I’d like a second squat cage in the free weights area but other than that it can’t be faulted. I highly recommend BST.

Fantastic experience: Been a member since the club opened in 2015. Up to date equipment, friendly staff, clean, tidy and the Zumba classes with Chantal & Pedro are amazing!. Can't fault the club throughout covid. Only problem can be parking, but as you have to book all classes/gym/swim it's not too bad at the moment. Hope to be a member for many more years

Negative experience: Equipment is old, cardio workout equipment often malfunctions. 1 star as the facilities are clean and another because they have a pool and sauna. Only one yoga class a week on a Wed morning which isn't particularly useful to anyone working standard hours. It's never really too crowded but I go late so maybe it is at regular rush hour times.

Fantastic experience: Thoroughly enjoyed using this gym. Excellent value for money, especially if you swim too. Staff are friendly. The free weights area upstairs is rather small, although not an issue during off-peak times.

Positive experience: Great gym, staff are lovely, equipment is in good order and modern. Pool is a nice addition to the town centre location. Only two gripes I have are the parking is often full/awkward, but due to location this is difficult to remedy and secondly the showers feel like they're twenty years old, variable temperature, weak water pressure and those push buttons you used to get in the school changing rooms! I've taken to showering at home after a session.

Fantastic experience: I had a very happy experience here because the young lady on the front desk let me in for free. I live on a houseboat and was cruising through Newbury and was able to have a swim (I did go in the canal but it's November and was only able to take it for 30 seconds).

Positive experience: Nice place, clean and well mannered staff. Good range of basic equipment, though only 1 squat rack and no deadlift platform, so not ideal for weight/powerlifting

Negative experience: Quite pricey for a single workout, limited floor space, although there are quite a few machines there is little variety. Cleanliness could of been better. Although the staff weren't rude they weren't particularly helpful either. I've used BSTs' in Basingstoke and been happy with what was on offer so this felt like they had let it down.
